> Torn Apart > by Silver Inkwell > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Torn Apart > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Torn Apart Rainbow Dash very slowly prepared herself to fly up in the sky right now. She stretched her wings and muscles ready to impress the crowd as they roared very loudly now. And then she flew up very high when it suddenly happened. The world feel apart, and her dreams they fell down with her too. Her wings broke, and then she fell screaming towards the ground now. She had flown up like a hero, but fell down like an angel, a very beautiful angel, one that would defy all description even if one tried to do so. Luckily however she was saved by the other pegasi, and she was safe. But, she had changed too, the doctors all told her that she might never fly again and that her reckless stunts had finally lead up to this event and situation. But she didn’t hear them, and that was because she was screaming so loudly that everything else in the whole entire world was drowned out now. And now she cursed herself for being so reckless and stupid, why had she always accepted the challenge no matter what it was? But she didn’t have any regrets since she had fun and enjoyed the time that she spent. But now she would have to live the rest of her life faced with this new challenge to live with, and it was one that would not ever be very pleasant at all. But she was very strong, she had to be, for herself, for her parents… for her friends… and finally… for Scootaloo. ... When she thought of Scootaloo she started to cry, oh that young little filly, she wished that she was here right now, she could help her out after all the times she had helped her try to fly. She wished that she could be here, even just to talk to her right now... But she wasn’t here right now, she was gone somewhere else and only her friends were there right now to try to comfort her in her time of great grief, pain, and sorrow. But it didn’t matter what they did since they couldn’t ever really truly help, they didn’t know what it was like to have a dream for many years, your whole entire life, and then in a moment have it destroyed forever. But Scootaloo did, she had a dream her whole entire life that she could never quite accomplish no matter what she tried to do, but no matter what she always had Rainbow Dash there to help her, or a friend instead. And now for the first time in her life Rainbow Dash need her and not the other way around. But very soon enough her hope and wish was finally granted at last. “Hey there Rainbow Dash, I heard about your accident and I came over her to see you because I thought that I could help you out, you know,” she said. “Thanks squirt,” Rainbow Dash said trying to put on a smile right now. “I just wanted to let you know that this is not the end for you Rainbow Dash, this is only the start of something completely new and different, and I know that it’s probably going to be hard, but if I can fly then you can get through this, and even if I can’t I still know that you can do it no matter what the others say or think, I don’t care what they have to say, you will get better.” “Thanks, but I don’t know if I will, my dreams are completely crushed, flying… well it was just everything to me… I mean I think that you’re the only one who could ever understand when I say that my dreams were completely destroyed in a moment, I mean just imagine how you felt when you learned that you never could possibly fly. Well take that feeling and multiply it a lot.” “Oh, that’s bad, but multiply by how much exactly?” she said. “It doesn’t matter, pain can’t be measure, and neither can any emotion like my sadness and despair,” she said, “I need you, so please help me out squirt.” “Of course, anything for you Rainbow Dash,” she said smiling right now. “Alright, let’s start simple, when do the doctors say that you can get out of bed?” Scootaloo said moving closer to Rainbow Dash now. “Technically I can get out now if I wanted to, but they say that I should let my wings rest and recover if I ever want to have a chance for the pain to pass.” “Well you certainly won’t fly by resting,” she said, “Get up and try to fly now.” Rainbow Dash did so, and while she could stretch out and flex her wings when she tried to fly up she instantly crashed down just like Scootaloo had always done. Scootaloo couldn’t stop the very slight and small smile on her face as she laughed, “I’m sorry,” she said, “I just thought I would never see you do that.” “It’s fine squirt, I couldn’t help smile and laugh the first time too,” she said. And with that said Scootaloo continued to speak now. “Alright, fine then, so your wings can’t let you fly, but guess what, that doesn’t ever mean that you still can’t have a dream, or that you should ever give up on yours, so what if you can’t ever join the Wonderbolts or be the fastest flier in Equestria? You have me and your friends, isn’t that what’s most important?” “I guess so, but flying just means so much to me, the wind on my face, the feeling of soaring through the air, I just wish that you could know it, just as much as I wish that I could fly again,” Rainbow Dash said. “Hey, no frowns,” Scootaloo said touching her hooves to Rainbow Dash’s face pressing on the sides to make a smile, “You can complain and whine, you can get angry and mad, but crying and frowning are never allowed when you train.” “You’re using my own words against me, clever little girl,” she said. “If I have to then I will, I will do anything to help you fly again.” “Well then, I have a very brilliant genius idea, how about you help me out by trying to fly yourself? That way you can really teach me how,” she said. “Do you really think that could ever possibly work?” she said. “Trust me, in any class where you train you need a partner, and I think that you’re just the one that I need, so what do you say, are you in or out?” “I’m in!” Scootaloo shouted as she smiled and hopped around. And for the first time in a very long time Rainbow Dash smiled for real, not a fake smile or even a smile that was filled with pain and sorrow and despair, but this one was filled with hope and joy and love instead. And so it was that she had something she thought she would never have, hope, love, and joy. After some time in the hospital the doctors finally released Rainbow Dash but warned her to take it very easy on her wings so that they could heal. Her friends told her that too, but now she really took it in finally. And with that she trained very long and hard with Scootaloo for the next few months, and eventually Scootaloo managed to fly on her own, but as for Rainbow Dash… well she never could manage to fly again… ever… But she gazed up at the sky with a smile of pride on her face, for now she saw that Scootaloo was experiencing something that she might never again, flight. And now it looked like she was the one with the flightless destiny right now. But now she would just have to manage and live with this new development, and hopefully she would not be destroyed by jealousy from it either. Because if there was anything that she did not want is was to be destroyed internally, even for a moment, and so that is why she had to smile now. But what she did not now is that no matter what she could and never would fly again, and many years after they would only remember her as the pony who had almost joined the Wonderbolts and flew with them, and had almost achieved her dreams, but then couldn’t ever because of one accident. But she eventually managed a way to live with all these rumors, tales, stories, legends and myths about herself, and Scootaloo, well she grew up to be a very strong and fast mare and flier, just like Rainbow Dash was, and what she also could have been… but she did not want to think about the what ifs so much as the right now and the tomorrow of the future instead. And so that was why no matter what she and Scootaloo always stayed close, even more so than her other friends, and as the years passed their bond and connection only ever grew deeper. But eventually a time came that she had to bury one of her friends and now she was very sad that she couldn’t say anything to honor her, or even fly to honor her name, but she managed to live with it and move on eventually, but her pain, sorrow, and despair only ever continued to increase. And so did her joy too with Scootaloo and her friends. But no matter what she knew that she could face the possibility of being alone and abandoned just like Scootaloo had been once, but luckily enough for her she always had her friends with her, at least until the very end when she really truly was alone, all except for Scootaloo of course, because as she had said and promised so many years ago, “I will never leave you Rainbow Dash, no matter what happens to us, and when the end comes I will be there for you too.” And she had kept her promise even to Rainbow Dash’s very last dying breath. The funeral for Rainbow Dash was held and even the new generation of Wonderbolts decided to fly over her grave just like they did for her other friends, but this time there was no more that could be said since all of the bearers of the elements had now passed and given their powers to others that would soon lead a very new generation. But before they did there were still a few members of the new generation that had something to say first. “I once knew Rainbow Dash as the bravest and fastest flier I ever had, and she wasn’t just the best on the field, but off of it too. She always helped out her friends no matter what the challenge was or what danger and peril she could or would have to face in the end. She always held to her values and morals, and that also included making sure that very pony was safe no matter what happened, she taught me that after I once made a terrible mistake in a choice for who should lead, I thought it was some pony else, but I was very wrong instead. Rainbow Dash has always been a natural leader, and no matter what she always was very kind and generous to others, she even eventually managed to inspire Scootaloo to fly with her all of her words, time, effort, and energy. And despite her accident she never let go of her dreams, and she never was torn apart either. We would all do very well if we followed in her example.” And with that said a very old Spitfire stepped down and left the stand to the others, and when it was finally Scootaloo’s turn she was silent for a very long moment until she finally found that it was most appropriate to speak now. “Fear, it is our only real true enemy, and if we can conquer it then we can conquer anything in the whole entire world, Rainbow Dash taught me how to conquer mine and always pursue my dream, and I never could thank her enough, but I just wish that I could have done more for her and her fears, especially after her accident and near the end. But I don’t want to hold unto any regrets that could tear me apart. And so that is why I just have to say that Rainbow Dash was the best pony I ever knew, she was almost like a second mother and a sister to me, she was very kind, nice, strong, and generous too. But most of all, she was loyal, she stuck with me no matter what happened. Even though most thought that I was a failure, Rainbow Dash never did. She was always there for me no matter what, and we both kept our promises of loyalty in the end, and I guess that’s all that really matter now.” And with that said she stepped off and received the loudest applause of all. And with that Rainbow Dash’s coffin was slowly lowered into the ground. And then after all the ponies had left except for Scootaloo she slowly went over to the grave and placed a single feather attached to a letter on the grave “I hope that wherever you are that you’re flying… and happy too.” And with that said she left as well. But if one looked at the feather of Scootaloo in just the right light it almost could look like it was casting a very beautiful arrangement of colors sometimes. But that was only on good days of course, when it rained or was cloudy, or even sometimes when the sun was setting or rising instead as well too. But no matter what every pony would agree on what they saw. For they all saw a rainbow being cast down from the feather. The End.
