Chapter One: Amends
By: Sunrise Dusk

Rainbow Dash was slowly walking through the halls of the Wonderbolt HQ. She let out a faint yawn as she trotted. Stupid! Cleaning all night! She thought, still walking. All because of that stupid name! Oh, I swear... I'll get Dumbbell and Hoops for this- Rainbow suddenly stopped. She ears folded down against her head. "I-I can't blame them... N-Not now..." She said to herself, the volume of her voice was just above a whisper. "Th-They apologized all those years ago. I never went back..."

"Hey! Hey, Crash!" A voice called to the candy-maned pegasus.

Rainbow gritted her teeth. "I-I know I should deal with the name... B-But..." She quietly whispered to herself. She felt a hoof her placed on her shoulder. She saw pale yellow-coated Misty Fly smiling at her. "Oh! H-Hey, Daisy!" Rainbow Dash said, her voice sounding more happier.

"How did cleaning go for ya last night, huh?" Misty asked in teasing manner.

Rainbow rolled her eyes, and her cyan cheeks were tinted pink. "You had to remind of that?" She said, smiling at her fellow team member.

"Well, to be honest with you... That was the best show I've ever seen during my career as a Wonderbolt!" Misty said, hugging the cyan pegasus. Rainbow Dash looked at her, unamused. "No, I'm serious! As Spitty said, 'that crash was epic!'" Rainbow's smile faltered, and Misty caught it immediately. "Heh, don't worry, Crash! By your next show, you'll do just fine!" Misty reassured.

Rainbow merely sighed. "Thanks, but... I'm on probation for the rest of the month. I won't be able to fly in the show at Fillydelphia in two weeks."

"Oh... Right..." Misty said, biting her bottom lip. "Maybe Spitty will suspend your probation if you do really good..?" Misty said, trying to make it sound like a statement, but was unsure of her own words, so it sounded more like a question.

"Look, I'm glad that you're trying to help, but a certain purple pony told me to wait for things to happen. Not to rush them, or assume stuff."

Misty nodded, understanding what Rainbow Dash meant. She waved goodbye, and flew out of Rainbow's sight.

Rainbow Dash sighed and made her way to the cafeteria.

Rainbow was sat on the table in the cafeteria. She finished the apple she picked up a few minutes ago. The cafeteria was empty. It was because the other 'Bolts had their breakfast already. Rainbow Dash had just recently returned from cleaning her mess at the Ponyville stadium. She glanced at the clock. 7:45. 15-minutes till practice. Rainbow Dash sighed. "I don't wan an go to dumb practice... I've only seen Misty since I got back!" She quietly yelled to herself. Just then, her ears perked up. Is somepony in here? She thought, turning around. I could've sworn I heard hoofsteps behind me... She heard the flap of wings above her. Her head slowly shifted upwards, and a pale blue blur fired at her.

"ATTACK!!!" The blur shouted.

"WHAT IN THE NAME OF CELESTIA?!" Rainbow yelled as she got thrown to the floor. She opened her eyes and saw Soarin on top of her laughing. "WHAT THE HAY, SOARIN?!" She said, pushing him off her.

Soarin was on the floor laughing. "Y-You're face was priceless!"

Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes and smiled. "Do that next time, and you're soooo getting it!"

"C'mon, Crash! You of all ponies should be able to take a joke!" Soarin teased.

"Well, it doesn't help when you pin me to the ground all of a sudden." Rainbow Dash flatly said.

"Heh... Sorry! It was just too funny to hold back! I mean, you were by yourself." Soarin said, still laughing. But he eventually stopped. "How did the cleaning go?"

Rainbow Dash face-hoofed herself. "How. Many. Times?!" She yelled.

Soarin's eyes widened. "Sorry. I guess you don't wanna talk about it..?"

"Uh... Ya think?"

Soarin began to toy with his hooves. "L-Look. I-I'm sorry..." He said a while later.

"Huh?" Rainbow Dash immediately responded.

"I'm sorry! I guess it was hard for you to adjust to being teased with a name! I tried to remember how it felt when I was dubbed 'Clipper', but it happened three years ago! So, I can't really remember it... I guess that I sorta just accepted it. B-But I've never actually seen or heard anypony go out of their way to change it!"

Rainbow Dash's gaze shifted down to her hooves. N-Nopony has said anything about why I did what I did... Soarin is the first to actually wonder why...

"Look, I know that you were thinking that we didn't like you because of that name, but going out of your way to change it?! That's something different!" Soarin looked down at his hooves. "Is there a different reason why you tried to change the nickname..?"

Rainbow's eyes widened. She was still looking down at her hooves. She eventually built up the courage to lift up her head, and look the stallion in the eye. Her voice cracked when she tried to speak. "Ye-Yeah... Th-There is another reason..." Her somber expression turned into a smile. "You're the first pony to think that there was a different reason."

Soarin managed to smile too. "Mind telling me?"

Rainbow hesitated wether or not to tell. I might sound like a little baby! But she shook of the thought, and told Soarin everything. "When I was in the Junior Speedsters Summer Flight Camp, I accidentally fell into a garbage can. This jerk who probably isn't a jerk today called me 'Rainbow Crash' all the time! Heck, he even made fun of Fluttershy! And he would always come up to me and say 'Crash!' no matter what. But the worst thing was that even the flight instructor laughed when that jerk called me 'Rainbow Crash' for the first time..."

Soarin looked at Rainbow Dash for a while, but then began to chuckle.

Rainbow raised her brow at him. "What's so funny?"

"Hahahaha! You fell into a garbage can here and began being called 'Rainbow Crash'! That has got to be the most weird coincidence ever!"

Rainbow Dash tried to look mad, but even began to chuckle a bit at the coincidence.

"But I'm sorry on what you had to go through..." Soarin said.

Rainbow Dash merely smiled. "It's alright."

Soarin held out his hoof. "Friends?"

Rainbow bumped her hoof with his. "Friends!"

Chapter Two: Partners

Soarin happily smiled. His eyes shifted to the clock.

“Great that we were able to make up, but we got 2-minutes to get dressed and head to practice…” He said, pointing at the clock on the wall.

“Sweet Celestia… See ya there!” Rainbow Dash said, running to the mares’ dressing room.

Soarin watched as she galloped away, and quickly ran to the stallions’ dressing room.

Rainbow Dash trotted into practice, just before it was going to start. She then spotted Soarin quickly walking in, and she smiled. She was about to walk towards him, but something caught her tail.

“Hey, Crash!” Misty Fly said.

“Oh, hey!” Rainbow Dash said, forgetting about Soarin as she walked to the white and blue mohawk-maned mare. “How you doin'?

“Just fine.Thanks!”

Before they knew it, a mild-raspy voice came towards them.

“Heya there, Daisy! Whoa, you too, Crash! Great to see you two!” Fleetfoot said, joining her two companions.

“Flapflip!” Misty exclaimed, nudging the mint-colored pegasus. “I’ve been looking for you!

“I’m here now!” Fleetfoot said with a chuckle. Her eyes shifted upon Rainbow Dash. “So, Crash… How’d cleaning go last night?”

Rainbow Dash rolled her eyes, smiling. “Pretty tough to clean actually.”

Misty chuckled. “Must be weird to see what a pegasus could do.”

Rainbow shrugged. “Not really. I’ve messed things up way more badly than I’ve done to that stadium.” Both mares stared at her, but Dash once again shrugged her shoulders. “Why did you think Ponyville wasn’t that surprised when I messed that show up. Sure, they were concerned. All my friends watch me screw up! Heh, but they’ve seen me do waaaaayy worse!” Rainbow Dash was now smiling, recalling her first ever show as a Wonderbolt. I guess it wasn’t as bad I thought. I’ve screwed this up more important than a show before!

“ALRIGHT, ‘BOLTS!” Spitfire’s light-hearted raspy voice boomed from her using that big megaphone. “TIME TO BEGIN!”

“Why do you need to use that?! You’re voice is loud enough as it is!” Rainbow Dash yelled in an annoyed tone.

Spitfire chuckled. “For good measure, Crash. Just for good measure.”

“But it sure is true, Spitty!” Fleetfoot said.

Soon, the whole team was laughing.

Soarin quickly burst outside to the practice area. He was panting. “I’m never gonna do that again…” He grumbled in a low tone. “Getng dressed in 2.minutes is too less!

“Soarin!”

The pale-blue stallion turned his head to see his good friend, Wave Chill, come trotting up to him. He smiled, and walked towards his friend. But at the corner of his eye, a rainbow flash came into view. He was about to turn and see if it was Rainbow Dash, but the azuel-maned stallion appeared in his face. Soarin once again grinned. “Hey, Chilly!”

“What up, Clipper?” Wave Chill said in his “chilled out” voice. “Did you see that show yesterday?”

Soarin rolled his eyes. “I was a part of the show. So… Yeah, I’m guessing.” He said with a smile.

“Heh, Crash sure made one big show! Ha! Imagine that being your first appearance as a Wonderbolt!”

Soarin shook his head. Chilly is a good guy, but he needs to learn to be more nice. He thought. “Well… The show was in Ponyville, That’s where Rainbow Dash lives. The only ones who saw her screw up were her friends, and maybe a few tourists, and those from other cities who came to see us. But mostly her friends!” He reminded.

Wave Chill shrugged. “She’s good. Just went crazy over her nickname. Heh, never thought I’d see somepony do that!” Wave Chill grinned. “She’s cute though…”

Soarin rolled her eyes. “You’ve had affairs with mares way too many times. How about settling on one you actually like. You know? Not toy with one!”

Wave Chill’s expression fell. “Okay, okay… I’ll calm down.” But a cheeky grin crept onto his muzzle. “That doesn’t change the fact that I find her cute!”

Soarin mentally facehoofed himself. “That’s what you think of every mare in the team.”

“Well… Not Surprise. Slow-poke there has a pretty bland blond mane!”

Soarin shook his head. “But you two are best friends!”

“That doesn’t mean I find her cute. You know, you’ve gotta start understanding me.”

Soarin playfully rolled his eyes. “Yeah, like that’ll ever happen!” He chuckled, and a rainbow flash once again caught his eye. He looked to see Rainbow Dash talking to Misty Fly, and Fleetfoot.

“Oh, you’ve gotta crush on the newbie?” Wave Chill teased.

Soarin gave him a serious look.

“I’m sorry… Chill.” Wave Chill said, waving his hoof in the air.

“Easy for you to say, it’s a part of your name!”

“That you are right, my friend!”

“ALRIGHT, ‘BOLTS!” The two stallions heard Spitfire yell into her megaphone. “TIME TO BEGIN!”

The two groaned for a short while.

It wasn’t until a raspy voice called out. “Why do you need to use that?! You’re voice is loud enough as it is!”

Soarin turned to see Rainbow Dash with her hooves in her ears.

“For good measure, Crash. Just for good measure.” Spitfire said, laughing a bit.

“But it sure is true, Spitty!” Fleetfoot said, and the entire team was lightly laughing to themselves.

After a good deal of light-hearted laughing, the team got back to business.

“Alright, Wonderbolts! I’ve come up with the paris of the routine!” Spitfire said, and she began to shuffle the papers on her clipboard. She cleared her throat. “Streaks, you’ll be together, Blaze is with me, Wave Chill and Surprise, Misty Fly and High Winds, Silver Lining and Fleetfoot, And Soarin and Rainbow Dash. Now, IN YOUR PAIRS!”

“Those are the same pairs from the last show!” Fleetfoor said, before waving and going to Wave Chill.

Rainbow Dash smiled and made her way to Soarin, slowly. Once she was right behind him, she yelled. “ATTACK!!!”

Soarin jumped up, and he was flying in the air, trembling. “What the?!”

“Heh, gotcha!” Rainbow Dash said, chuckling. “Lucky you weren’t pinned to the ground this time!”

Soarin laughed a bit, and he slowly began to desend.

Whistle

“LISTEN UP!” Spitfire said. “EACH PAIR WILL BE ASSIGNED A CERTAIN PLACE IN THE SHOW. NO TWO PAIRS WILL CROSS OVER THIS TIME! WE’RE DOING THINGS A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY THIS TIME!”

“Does she really need to speak int that?” Rainbow Dash muttered.

Soarin stiffed a laugh. “That really annoys you, huh?

“Well… I guess it does. For some weird reason.” Rainbow said, smiling.

“Heh. you got that right!”

“I guess we can start.” Rainbow said, trotting to the other side of the field.

Soarin scurried after her.

“NOW! YOU’LL EACH BE GIVEN YOUR OWN RUITENS TO PRACTICE WITH YOUR PARTNER!” Spitfire instructed, and she handed papers with different tricks on them.

Soarin and Rainbow Dash took their paper, and headed off to the end of the training grounds.

“So, wha’do we gotta do?” Rainbow asked.

“We’re instructed to do three barrel-rolles, 4 loops, I do the buccaneer blaze, and you-“ Soarin stopped and kept staring at the paper.

“And I do…” Rainbow said, waving her hoof in the air for him to go on.

“Uh… You’re doing a sonic rainboom…” Soarin said, his ears flat against his head in confusion.

Rainbow’s eyes went small. “A SONIC RAINBOOM?! BUT I’M ON PROBATION! I SHOULDN’T EVEN BE IN THE NEXT SHOW..!” Rainbow yelled, trying to understand why she was given such a move on her second show.

“Maybe Spitty wants you to go in the show after all. I mean, we need all 12 Wonderbolts for each show. Maybe she just wanted to keep you instead of putting a reserve in you place!” Soarin suggested.

“Heh, I guess you’re right.” Rainbow said, smiling.

“Why don’t we get started?” Soarin said, taking off in the sky.
