> Snowflakes > by X3n0heart > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The First Snowfall of Winter > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I waited patiently next to the Canterlot High statue the message that Twilight sent playing itself over and over in my head like a song on repeat. Looking up at the cloudy sky I prayed that it would snow already for we haven't seen a single flake at all this winter. Winter. It's my favorite season out of all of them. The quietness the snow brings with it makes everything so surreal and calm that you just couldn't help think about anything but enjoying the scenery. It was still cold enough that I was bundled up in my leather jacket with a scarf that Twilight had made me the last time she came. Taking a small sniff of it I could feel my face flush a bit as Twilight's scent still lingered, even after all of this time. Placing my gloved hands into the jacket's pockets I returned my gaze upwards and gave a soft sigh as I continued to stare off into the distance. It wasn't until a gentle touch on my shoulder brought me back down to earth as her voice sang softly in my ears. "Hello, beautiful." "Look who's talking," I replied with a smile and a hug as we wrapped arms around each other. It had been so long since I'd felt her touch and heard the sound of her voice as the embrace continued for a few minutes. Stepping back slightly I noticed the huge smile she was giving me as it made me think that there was something on my face. "What?" "Oh nothing," Twilight said with a giggle and took my arm as we started walking. In the reply I told her to bring something warm to wear as it was getting quite cold, especially at night. She wore a button up winter coat with matching ear muffs, which I could assume Rarity made for her. It was cute and fit her perfectly. "So what are we doing tonight?" Twilight asked as we continued to walk down the sidewalk. "I do apologize for not being able to come sooner like I said I would," she added with a tinge of sadness in her words. "It's alright, Twi," I comforted her as I slid my fingers between hers, interlocking them together. "I know how busy you can get and it doesn't bother me at all." "Are you sure? It seems like I'm always quite busy with everything going on in Equestria nowadays." "I'm positive," I gave her a smile as she looked at me returning with a smile of her own. "By the way did you happen to get the items I requested?" "Yes, of course," Twilight said as she pulled out two small matching ornaments from her coat pocket. "Why did you want me to bring these?" "It's a surprise," I told her with a sparkle in my eye as Twilight giggled, placing them back into her pocket. We rounded a corner and headed deeper into the city as the street lights started turning on one by one. I could feel the temperature drop a few degrees as what little light faded behind the heavy clouds. Twilight told me about everything that had been going on and how they were getting things ready for "Hearth Warming". I just continued to listen to her as we strolled along. Her voice, the words she would use, the way her eyes would light up when she was excited about something. Everything about her I memorized so I could resurface these memories on long, lonely, nights. "Hey let's get something warm to drink," I interrupted as I spotted one of the local cafes. "That sounds wonderful," Twilight agreed as we headed inside the heat from inside covering our whole bodies making both of us shiver slightly. We giggled at each other before approaching the counter. I ordered us two large hot chocolates, mine with extra whipped cream of course. Twilight was looking at some of the sweets in the counter window when I walked over handing her her cup. "Are those what I think they are?" Twilight asked as she pointed. "Yep. Strawberries covered with white chocolate," I explained taking a sip enjoying the hot liquid. Turning to me with stars in her eyes she asked, "Are they good?" "They’re one of my favorites. Even though I don't eat a lot of sweets," I smiled then added, "would you like to try one?" "Oh may I?" The way she said that and the look in her eyes sent butterflies throughout my whole being. With a smile, I just nodded to her and placed an order, one for each of us. Twilight took hers, staring at it for a few moments before taking the first bite. The look on her face was priceless, as though she were in a state of euphoria. It was soon gone afterwards, as well as mine for they are delicious. "That was amazing. I've never had something like that before," Twilight mentioned as we left the shop and continued on our little journey through town. "I'm glad you liked it." "I loved it!" Twilight exclaimed as she wrapped her arm around mine, once more interlocking our fingers together. The city seemed a bit brighter out tonight as we continued to enjoy each other’s company taking it slow, making sure to preserve each and every little moment we share together. "What's that?" Twilight asked as she pointed to an area where it was a bit brighter than its surrounding. "That's our destination," I answered as we waited to cross the street. My heart fluttered, as the light changed singling us to cross, at the thought of her reaction when we get there. Fortunately it wouldn't be that long of a wait as it was right around the next tall building. I could feel her hand tighten around mine as I watched her face out of the corner of my eye. "Oh Celestia..." Twilight whispered, stopping suddenly as her wide eyes focused on the enormous Christmas tree that stood towering over the city square. The coco forgotten in her other hand, she continued to take it all in as I leaned in close and gently kissed her on the cheek. "Merry Christmas, Twilight." Speechless, Twilight slowly turned to me, her eyes watering up but with the most sweetest, genuine smile I have ever seen, she stared at me with those beautiful violet eyes of hers. "Sunset, I...I..." She tried to speak but I just shook my head. "You don't have to say anything to me, just follow," I instructed as I started to lead her over to a small line that formed in front of the tree. As we made our way to the front I told her to pull out the two ornaments and hand one to me. Stepping up to the tree I hung mine at eye level and turned to face Twilight. "You can put yours anywhere you'd like to," I told her as she walked up next to me. Twilight did not hesitate as she placed hers right next to mine smiling the entire time. Both of us exited the area and found a bench to sit down and relax on while we drank the rest of our hot chocolate. The night was very serene, very comforting but it wasn't until Twilight spoke that made everything even better. "Sunset, look!" Twilight exclaimed, pointing up at the sky. As I looked up, the first few snowflakes began to fall. There were no words as to what I was feeling at this moment in time. All I could do was gaze upwards as they continued to drift slowly down upon us. Twilight opened her hand and let a few fall into her palm before looking at them closely. My attention turned to her, just sitting there, as we both locked eyes once again. Leaning in, Twilight placed a soft, gentle kiss upon my lips before whispering two little words to me. "Thank you."
