> The Rainbow Effect > by ashketchumpony > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Revelation > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Luke sat outside his house gazing towards the stars. Not that he would be able to see any, now that there were massive cities just about anywhere. It would have been a perfect night to view stars; at least, that’s what his dad had said. He still had to tell him about his watching of 'My Little Pony'. That one is going to be a doozy, he thought to himself, while he heard a loon off in the distance. As he looked back into the sky, he wondered if there really was a place where it was all love and tolerance, not hate and prejudice. The thought of it made him smile. “Luke! Luke!!” His father called from inside the house, “it’s time for dinner!” “Kay dad!” he replied as he got out of the lawn chair in his yard. As he neared the door he heard a crack and, turning around, saw a flash of light off in the distance. “What the heck-“ he started saying as a massive shockwave sent him sprawling on the ground. He slowly got up as his parents came outside. “I need to check this out!” He said to them as he started towards his car. “Wait a second Luke!” His mother exclaimed. “You can’t go alone! You don’t know what that could have been! For all we know that could have been some sort of nuclear test!” “Really, mom? A nuclear test?” Luke forgot how thick his mom could be sometimes as he stepped into his car. Ignoring his parents only to reassure them that he would be okay, he started off towards where he thought he saw the flash. It actually wasn’t that hard to get there seeing that all the trees seemed to be leaning away from the site. It took him about a half hour to actually find the place where he saw the light. In front of him lay a crater that was at least twenty feet across, and five feet deep. The area around and in the crater had been scorched black by the intense heat that had been produced by the flash. In all directions for thirty feet the plant vegetation had been disintegrated to ash. Luke tentatively jumped down into the crater to find the source of the destruction. Nearing the center, he saw something that shook him to his core. Lying down in the center of the site was a sky blue pony with wings and a rainbow colored mane and tail. This is not happening, he thought as he approached the sleeping pony. He knew who this was but couldn’t quite grasp the reality of it. His mind wrestled with the thought that Equestria was a real place. A real place! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Rainbow Dash stirred slightly in her sleep. Ugh, she thought, as she reluctantly opened her eyes. What happened? I don’t remember where I am. Where is Twilight? She might be an egghead but she does know a lot of useful things. Like telling me where I am. As she sat up, she saw that she was in the middle of a large crater. Something wasn’t right. “What the hay happened?” she asked to herself, still looking around the crater. A voice caught her attention. “This can’t be happening,” she heard him say. “How could Equestria be real? It just isn’t possible!” She turned her head around and found the source of the speaker. In front of her was a tall, ape-looking creature with a dark brown mane and light brown eyes. He wasn’t very thin or fat, but looked somewhat athletic. She assumed it was a guy by the way his mane was cut. As she sat watching him, he realized she was staring at him. A friendly smile spread over his face as he saw her. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I can’t believe this is happening right now. Luke thought as he looked at the pony in front of him. “Hi there,” he said, “I’m Luke, what’s your name?” What if she doesn’t speak the same language? I would just sound like a really weird…thing… I can’t think of anything better than that?! A weird thing? Wow, I have no imagination. He shook those thoughts out of his head. It doesn’t matter what I think, just please, please, speak the same language! “Why should I trust you?” She replied. Luke gave a visible and audible sigh of relief. “Good, you can understand me. I thought you would speak a different language.” He gave a nervous laugh. “Well you can trust me, and should trust me, because I know that you aren't in Equestria anymore, and I can try to explain some things to you.” Rainbow thought for a moment, weighing her options in her head. He seems trustworthy. Besides, he is right. I have no idea where I am, and I could probably use all the help I could get. “Alright." She said. "My name is Rainbow Dash, the fastest, coolest and awesomest flier in all of Equestria! Now tell me where I am. And what are you?” She stared at Luke with what she hoped was a confident gaze. She didn’t want to seem weak in front of this creature, and she still didn’t fully trust him. They had only met a couple minutes ago, in a crater in the middle of a forest, after all. Holy shit! It really is Rainbow! “Well, like I said before my name is Luke. I’m a human and you are in northern Minnesota, on planet Earth.” The last part sounded kind of cheesy to Luke, but he hoped that Rainbow wouldn’t notice it. “We aren’t in Equestria?” She asked, her head cocked to one side. A look of disbelief was on her face as she said this, and Luke could feel her rising panic. “Yeah. This isn’t Equestria. This is going to sound crazy, but I know you from somewhere.” Rainbow opened her mouth to ask a question, but Luke stopped her. “It will be easier to show you than explain.” He said as he brought out a small pad no bigger or thicker than a playing card. He swiped his hand over the top of it and it came to life with an automatic voice greeting them. “Welcome Luke.” He swiped out of the automatic greeting and went straight to a TV website. “Uh, what is that thing?” Rainbow asked, staring intently at it. “Huh? This? Oh yeah, you probably wouldn’t have these where you're from would you? This is a holo-card. It’s kind of like a phone. Except better in about a thousand different ways. Aha!” he exclaimed, bringing Rainbow’s attention back out of the clouds. “Found it! Okay, before I show you this you need to know that this is… well, it’s going to be a shock to you at the very least.” He said before placing the card on the ground and punching through the air above it. he didn't have to punch but it made it look more dramatic. A TV show started playing, the familiar 'My Little Pony' theme song. Rainbow couldn’t believe her eyes. There were her friends - and herself - singing and hanging out like they sometimes did. “I-I thought you said that we weren’t in Equestria?” She asked nervously. “We aren’t in Equestria, no.” Luke confirmed. “Then what is this?” “That is 'My Little Pony', an animated show, for little kids. You probably know more about it than I do, but until I saw you, that was just a world that someone came up with in their heads. I didn’t know it was an actual place.” Rainbow had to let the words sink in for a couple moments. “So how am I here, and how is it that a world that was created by someones' imagination actually exists? That just doesn’t seem possible!” “Ha, you’re telling me! I’m just as confused as you are!” Luke shot back to her. While they were staring each other down, they heard sirens off in the distance. “That’s not good.” Luke said as he broke the silence and the staring contest, and he looked over to where the sirens were coming from. “Come on! We can’t let them find you!” he told Rainbow. “What’s the big deal?” She asked as he picked her up. “Hey I can walk just fine!” “Well come on then! We need to go!” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Authors Note: I would like to thank Lightning Blaze and jediinc for doing some editing and looking for spelling errors. Thank you! > Caution > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Luke could barely keep his hands from trembling long enough to get the key into the transmission. His mind was racing to figure out a way to get past the police without getting caught with Rainbow. There has got to be a blanket or something back here! He thought as he frantically looked around to find something to conceal her with. Unfortunately it was in the middle of summer, so he had taken out all of the blankets and similar objects from his car. He did, however, have his friends' hoodie in the back seat. He didn’t know how or why his friend could stand wearing it in the summer, but he was grateful that he did. "Here, put this on,” he told Rainbow, as he tossed the hoodie to her. “Not to rain on your parade or anything Luke, but I don’t think this is going to work.” She said while trying to pull the piece of clothing on. “I mean really, how is this going to help us?” “Just trust me. When they ask who we are, I’ll tell them that you are my cousin that likes to dress up as a pony and-” Luke abruptly stopped as he saw the flashing lights of police cars behind him. “Oh shit,” he mumbled as he turned to look at Rainbow. What he saw made his stomach drop. It also made him nearly burst out laughing, despite the danger they were in. She had put the hoodie on horribly wrong. Instead of going over her head, the piece of clothing was on both of her left hooves. “It goes over your head, not on your legs.” He said as he mentally face-palmed. “Well how the hay am I supposed to know that!” She retorted, while pulling the hoodie off. “I don’t wear clothes in Equestria, so how would I know how to wear them here!” “Whatever, just get it on the right way! And fast, because the cops are nearly here!” Rainbow had just gotten the hoodie on - it had taken some help from Luke - as the police cars came into view. “Well, here goes nothing.” Luke mumbled under his breath, as the police pulled up next to him. One of the officers stopped and stepped out of his car, while motioning for his partner to go ahead. “Sir I’m going to need you to step out of-" he stopped mid-sentence as he saw the cyan Pegasus sitting next to Luke. Luke nervously cleared his throat as he saw the confused expression that the officer wore. “Is there a, uh, problem officer?” He asked hesitantly. “Yeah. I would like to know who, or what, is sitting next to you.” “Oh. Her. She’s my, uh, cousin. Yup. My…cousin. Who likes to dress up? As… ponies.” Luke gave a nervous grin to the officer that was eyeing him. “Well, I would ask what you two were doing out here, but you know what? I don’t even want to know. You two can go.” The officer said to them. As he walked away, Luke heard him continue. "Who the hell would dress up as a pony? Even if it was a pretty good costume, that doesn’t make it any less weird.” Luke and Rainbow both gave sighs of relief as the police officer drove away. “I can’t believe that actually worked.” Luke said to Rainbow. “Truthfully,” Rainbow replied, “I don’t even know what happened just now.” “We just got a free pass from the police! That’s what just happened!” Luke said triumphantly. “Now we just need to get outta here and head back home.” Aw jeeze. What am I going to tell my parents? Hey mom and dad! Look what I found! A talking flying horse! Did I mention it talks and flies? Oh, and the government is probably going to be looking for it, so we can’t let her be found! He resisted the urge to hit his head off the steering wheel. Ugh, this is going to suck. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 15 minutes later It had started to storm on the drive back. Sheets of rain buffeted against the car as lightning lit up the sky, revealing the landscape every couple of seconds with an eerie light. Luke looked over at the Pegasus next to him. She was still wearing the hoodie he had given her from before. “Do you like that?” he asked, gesturing towards the hoodie. “Yeah, it’s pretty cool.” She replied while trying to stifle a yawn. “When are we gonna get there?” “Soon,” he replied. “It’s only another couple of minutes away.” “Mm'kay.” Rainbow said sleepily. She started to drift off to sleep, only to be awoken a moment later by the blaring of a siren. “What is that horrible noise that is stopping me from sleeping?!” She demanded, glaring out of the window. “It’s a tornado warning.” He explained. “It lets us know that there is a very strong possibility for a tornado.” He pulled over into a ditch as the rain and wind intensified. He could feel it rocking the car slightly. This is bad,[i/] he thought to himself, I’ve never had the wind move my car. “Do you hear that?” Rainbow asked. “What?” “Listen, it’s like a ‘whooooosshhhh’ kinda sound.” Rainbow waved her hoof around for emphasis. Luke listened for a second before hearing it. “Grab onto something! Now!” He yelled. Rainbow gave him a quizzical look. “Just do what I tell you!” He yelled again. The sound was getting louder. As he looked out his window, he could see the rain had turned into golf ball-sized hail. He watched while a wall of rain, wind and hail seemingly materialized and hurtled towards them. Time seemed to slow as the tornado slammed into the side of the car. He could feel the car being lifted up into the air. He felt the glass explode towards the inside of the car, only to get sucked out in an instant. The sound was now an overpowering roar. Hail was being flung into the car at dizzying speeds. Luke felt his breath leave him as a huge piece of hail hit him in the chest. They had to be at least thirty feet in the air. Luke could feel gravity starting to pull the car back down to the earth. As it hit the ground, he heard a sickening crunch. He quickly checked himself to see if he had been hurt. It seemed like except for a couple of cuts and bruises, he was fine. As he was about to breathe a sigh of relief he heard Rainbow moan in pain. His head shot to the side to look at her. He didn’t want to believe what he was seeing. Damn. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Authors Notes: Sorry I took so long in updating this; I had writers' block and self-doubt about my writing. But here it is! (Finally...) If you have any ideas or anything you feel like I should know, then let me know! It would be greatly appreciated! I will try my best to get chapters out faster, but I can't make any promises. I hope you enjoyed the chapter, and I will see you all later! IceOfWaterflock is still best pony. (I really suck at authors notes, don't I?)
