> Moonlights Daughter > by Fizzyberries302 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Heart Break > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter One Princess Luna sat down on her throne, anger and hate in her eyes and darkness in her heart. She cursed to herself. "Did my sister really think that I'd sit idly by while they all bask in her precious light." Unknown to her, her daughter, Princess Songbird had been woken up from her nap and was peeking out from behind the door. The princess of the night, then stood up and her horn began to glow. "THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE PRINCESS IN EQUESTRIA! AND THAT PRINCESS, WILL BE ME!" She screamed with a mighty rage. Luna's horn glowed brighter as she ascended up. The five year old Songbird watched in horror as the moon outside began to cover the sun. And when it did, a dark shadow enveloped around Luna. Then with a loud explosion, Luna emerged. But she had changed, instead of her dark blue coat and sparkly blue mane and tail like the night sky, Luna was jet black, her mane and tail were the same colour; only larger, her once soft wings were armoured and metallic, sharp teeth had grown in her mouth and her once loving eyes were reptilian and cold. This new version of her mother scared Songbird, but it didn't stop her from running out. "Mommy!" she cried, but a strong hoof held her back. Songbird looked up and saw her Aunt Celestia, The Princess of the Day. The majestic alicorn held her niece back as she spoke to her corrupted sister. "Luna! I will not fight you! Don't you see what your doing! You must lower the moon, it is your duty! Think of your daughter!" she cried, trying to hold her young niece back. Songbird looked up at her mother, a pleading look in her silver eyes. The mare of darkness scoffed. "Luna? I-AM-NIGHTMARE-MOON!" she shrieked. "I have but one Royal duty now! TO DESTROY YOU!" Nightmare Moon then fired a spell at her sister, Songbird yelped as her aunt pushed her out of the way before dodging the blast herself. The blast from the spell shattered the ceiling above to pieces, seeing the opportunity, Celestia took to the skies. "And where do you think you're going!" cried Nightmare Moon, flying after her sister. Songbird wanted to help, spreading her little wings and she too, took to the skies after her mother and aunt. The young alicorn caught up with her aunt in combat with her mother. The sisters were firing spells at each other, Songbird wanted to do something. Her small horn lit up with the spell that her mother taught her and fired. However, the spell was too weak to take any damage, so neither of the sisters noticed. Songbird tried again and again, until she was drained of her magic. She then floated back down to the ground and hid, watching the fight. Why would her mother do this? She didn't understand why her sweet, nurturing mother would do this to her own sister. Then something shocking happened, Celestia and Nightmare Moon had fired a spell at each other, at the same time. The spells hit mid strike, soon there was a wrestling match with the spells and then, Nightmare Moons spell shot out at Celestia, blasting her to the ground. The Princess of the Day was sent plummeting to the ground, crashing through ceilings and floors, until she came to a stop. Nightmare Moon laughed like a maniac, believing she had defeated her sister. Songbird ran straight to her aunt and cried into her sparkly mane. Celestia stirred and got back onto her hooves, hugging her niece in the process. "Auntie, why is Mommy doing this?" asked Songbird, she still had some tears falling down her face. Celestia didn't answer her question, instead she turned around, hiding a broken heart. "I'm so sorry Luna, but you have given me no choice." she said, lighting up her horn and levitating a secret stand out of the floor. Sitting in the stand were six finely cut gemstones, one orange, one green, one blue, one pink, one red and the last one was a magenta star cut. Songbird recognised them and began to tear up more. "NO AUNTIE! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO MOMMY!" she cried, streams of tears were flowing out of her eyes. Celestia began to do the same, she hated seeing her niece like this. "She has given me no choice, sweetie. I have to do this." she said, biting her lip. The magic from her horn levitated the magenta star out of the stand. The other gems followed. As if on queue, Nightmare Moon burst through the window. Celestia fired up her horn, Songbird screamed for her aunt not to use the Elements of Harmony on her mother, Nightmare Moon lit up her horn and tried to break through the Elements power, a force of light emitted from the Elements. The force hit Nightmare Moon, square in the chest, sending her screaming to the moon. "MOMMY!!!!!!!!" cried Songbird, running to the broken window. The filly stared up at the moon, she had never felt so broken, her mother was gone. The Elements had done their trick, Celestia was now crying. She had just banished her own sister to the moon, what's more she had also broken her nieces heart. The five year old filly was crying hysterically. Songbird used her magic to grab her alicorn doll, Pixie Starlight. Her mother had given it to her on her first birthday. It was now the last thing she had to remember her mother. > Lullaby for a Young Princess > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter Two Five years later, Songbird was now older and more experienced with magic, but she still felt empty. She missed her mother very much, now her aunt had taken over the job of raising the moon as well as the sun. Songbird stepped out into the palace gardens one night and looked up at the moon. Her mother was still there. Songbird dreaded to think on what it was like for her mother. She wondered if her mother was lonely up there. She decided to sing the lullaby she had sung to her every night. Lighting up her horn, she made the stars twinkle with the tune. Song: (Constant as the stars Above) Songbird finished the song with a tear, suddenly a light appeared. Songbird looked around and when she spied her flank, she gasped. On her flank was a picture of a single blue angel wing and a silver treble clef in the middle. It was her cutie mark. Songbird cheered in joy, but then she realised that her mother wasn't there to congratulate her. She looked up at the moon. "Mommy, I got my cutie mark today. Can you see me?" she asked, letting the tears fall down her face. Songbird took one last look at the Mare on the Moon, before running back inside to show her Aunt. Celestia was trilled, her niece had gotten her cutie mark. Now it was official on what Songbirds job as a princess was. To make the stars twinkle every night and let everypony know of the love and comfort the night gives them. Celestia also claimed that it was also Songbirds job the grant the ponies wishes. "You're sweet voice will bring forth love and comfort to ponies. You will teach them how to forgive each other. And when a pony makes a wish upon a star, you have the power to grant it." she said, with wisdom. Songbird hugged her aunt. "Auntie, will I need to study magic?" she asked. "Yes, my little pony. You will have to study more spells, if you want to for fill your destiny." Songbird beamed, she was going to make her mother proud. "When do I start, Auntie Tia?" Songbird sat in the pile of books, she had to memorise every spell off by heart. The ten year old filly groaned and slumped the book down on her desk. She picked up a picture of her and her family, it was taken the day when she learned how to fly. She was sitting on her mothers lap, hugging Pixie Starlight. Her aunt was standing just behind them, smiling. They were such a happy family back then. Songbird held back tears when she saw how happy they were. She didn't understand why her mother had turned evil. She looked so happy in the photo. Songbird then levitated another book from the shelf. It was the family album. Songbird used her magic to flip through the pages. On the first page were pictures of her mother and aunt when they were fillies. There was a big picture in the centre, it was of her mother and aunt, sitting on their thrones. Standing next to them were Songbirds grandparents, Cosmos and Galaxia. They had passed on to the stars long before she was born. The next page was of her mother when she was 10 months pregnant. Prior those 10 months, Luna had prayed to Polaris. He was a male alicorn who lived in the sky. His spirit was present as the bright and shiny, North Star. Polaris granted Luna's wish for a child of her very own. He gave her a special star fruit which had the ability to grant ones dearest wish. As a result of eating the fruit, Luna fell pregnant. The next page was of her when she was born, she was swaddled into a cream colour blanket and her mother was holding her close to her chest, sweating and crying. Celestia was standing next to them, tears of joy were flowing down her cheeks. Songbird awed at herself, she was such a cutie. The next page were pictures of her, learning to walk, talk and playing with her family. Her favourite picture was of her getting her head stuck in the bars of her crib, she laughed at how she managed to do that. The next page was just her and mother, flying through the sky. Songbird was sitting on her mothers back, Luna was showing her all the stars and constellations. Her mother had told her that, that night was when she said her first word 'star'. Songbird missed her mother so much, she wanted her to come home. (Flashback) "Tia! Come quick!" hollered Luna, holding a seven month old Songbird in her hooves. Celestia came sprinting around the corner, startling the guards. "What is it?! What's wrong?!" she cried, still trying to catch her breath. Luna beamed like her sisters sun. "Songbird said her first word, 'Star'!" Celestias faced lit up, like a Hearths Warming Tree. "She did!" "Come on baby, say it again." "Star!" said Songbird, pointing to the stars outside. Celestia could not contain her joy. "My baby niece can talk!" she said, picking up Songbird and spinning her around. Songbird laughed as her aunt put her lips to her tummy and did a raspberry. Luna giggled and started to tickle her baby. Songbird squirmed under her mother and aunts hooves. The filly then took her family by surprise and jumped onto them, tickling them. Soon there was a family tickle fight against adults and a filly. (Flashback) Songbird flipped through some more pages, she found a picture of her at her first birthday. The guests were all covered in cake as Songbird had randomly started a cake fight that day. The filly chuckled to herself. She was such a silly filly. The next page were of her mother and aunt, standing next to a stone statue of a creature made of different animal parts. It was Discord, the Lord of Chaos, and Celestia and Luna had just turned him to stone for reeking havoc and chaos across Equestria. Songbird was three at the time of Discords reign of chaos. She thought he was funny and the cotton candy clouds with chocolate milk rain were the best. She still kept one cloud in a secret space under her bed. She and Discord would play hide and seek together. She saw him as a big brother or father that she never had. That all changed when her mother saw Discord tickling her and thought he was attacking her. Her room had a window that looked out into the garden, she could still see Discords statue, cold, stiff and alone. She missed him too and would sometimes visit his statue on dark nights. She thought it was wrong to turn someone to stone. Discord had no one to talk to or turn to, except her. He told Songbird that he came from a far away land, but that land was destroyed by a Windigo snow storm. His parents were lost, as was the rest of his kind. Only Discord escaped. He admitted that he wanted Equestria to look like his home land, which is why he started causing chaos. He looked so cold and alone now. She wondered if that's how her mother felt, up there in the moon. Her aunt and mother had used the Elements of Harmony to turn Discord to stone. She slammed her hoof on her desk, hot tears welled up in her eyes. Those were the same talismans that her aunt had used to blast her mother to the moon. Why did her aunt try not to reason with her and Discord, instead of making them suffer a fate worse than death. She found herself crying again. "Mommy, why aren't you here to comfort me. I-I-I just want to know why you did what you did," Songbird closed the album and got into bed, cuddling her doll to her chest. "We were so happy back then, why would you do this to yourself. I believe that every creature has a heart, they just don't see it. I know that you would never do this, because nopony is born evil." "I love you Mommy, no matter what." she said, before falling into a deep sleep. Far above the night sky, a lunar alicorn wept. The tears wouldn't stop flowing and the pain would not heal. She had been taken from her daughter. Luna cursed herself for being such a fool to believe those things that were told to her. She held her head up and started to sing her grief out in a lullaby. How my deeds pain me as time stretches long, How could I have hurt them this way, So rest easy now, this punishments mine, The weight of my crime is my own, But into this stillness, I'll bring you a song, And I will watch over you, Don't cry now my child, I'm here now my child, I'll carry you softly to sleep, Once did a pony who gleamed like the moon, Look out on her kingdom and sigh, Dejected, she cried "Surely no pony will," "Ever love me or my daughter at will," So great was her pain, She rose in rebellion, Against those who cared for her most, She the let the demon, fall on those she ruled, And threatened to grip them in permanent cold, Lullay Star Princess, Goodnight daughter mine, Rest now in my lights embrace, May this sweet lullaby, Reach you in dreams and ease you this passage of days, May my apologies, find you this night, And may, my guilt in cline, Songbird I still love you more than you know, Forgive me for being so blind, Soon did her sister, Do what was demanded, And gave to the moonlight her due, Breaking the filly's heart, She saved her ponies, And banished her as a wise ruler should do, But such is the weight of this sorrow my daughter, I only wanted the best for you, May you forgive me that foolishness mine, And live on with no weight upon your soul, Lullay Star Princess, Goodnight daughter mine, Rest now in my lights embrace, May this sweet lullaby, Reach you in dreams and ease you this passage of days, May my apologies, find you this night, And may, my guilt in cline, Songbird I still love you more than you know, May troubles be far from your mind, And forgive me for being so blind, This space now before us, Empty and forlorn I never wished this fate, And earn the ponies hate, May my crimes be pardoned, Swiftly fast I pray, I love you, I miss you, All these miles away, May all your dreams be, Sweet tonight, Safe upon your bed of starlight, And know not of sadness, Pain nor care, And when I dream I'll fly away, To see you there, Sleep, Sleep, Sleep, Luna couldn't control it anymore and screamed. "SONGBIRD!!!" > Summer Sun > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter three For years, she waited for her mother to come home to her. But with each passing day, she never did, Celestia had given up all hope that her little sister would return. Songbird never lost hope of seeing her mother again. She told herself every night, "My mother will come home, I just know it." Century after century, Songbird grew into a beautiful alicorn mare. At first glance you would think she was Celestia's daughter and not Luna's. Unlike her mother, Songbird was a white alicorn, with a shiny light blue mane and tail. It had now been roughly a thousand years since Nightmare Moons banishment. It had been passed on as a legend by then, as ponies had no proof that it was true. But Songbird knew better, it was around this time that her aunt had started looking for unicorn foals with powerful magic, to teach in her School for Gifted Unicorns. Songbird went with her aunt to all these trips, finally her aunt found the perfect student. A lavender unicorn filly with a dark purple mane with magenta streaks, her name was Twilight Sparkle. Twilight was only ten years old when she was enrolled in the school, for managing to hatch a dragon egg, Twilight named the baby dragon Spike. Since then Twilight, Spike and Songbird became friends, ironically Twilight was also foal sat by Songbirds adopted cousin, Princess Cadence. When Twilight had grown into a young mare, Celestia sent her to Ponyville to help with preparations for the Summer Sun Celebration a festival that marked the beginning of the longest day of the year. Songbird hadn't been to Ponyville since her mother was banished so she asked if she could go too, as a princess. She didn't want to be separated from her friends. Celestia agreed to let Songbird go with Twilight and Spike. Songbird was going to miss Canterlot, but she would be returning to her foalhood home. Songbird packed her things, including the picture of her and her mother. She still never lost hope that her mother would return. In her heart she was confident that her mother would return very soon. She never told her friends that she was Nightmare Moons daughter, in fear that they'd freak out. Twilight was already freaking out about Nightmare Moons return, after reading about it in a book. Now to the present day. The chariot arrived in Ponyville safely, Twilight, Songbird and Spike were finally there. "Why so glum, Twilight? It's the Summer Sun Celebration, everypony should be happy." said Songbird. The alicorn saw the annoyed look on the unicorns face. "Is this about making new friends?" "Songbird, I just don't get it. Your aunt said that the story of Nightmare Moon is just a legend, we just need proof that she is coming back. You believe me don't you." Songbird looked over at her unicorn friend. "Of course I believe you, I was actually there when she got banished to the moo-" The alicorn gasped when she realised what she said. She looked away, trying to hide her broken heart. "You were there! Was she as terrifying as they said in the book?!" asked Twilight. "I-" Songbird was saved by a bell when Spike pointed out that they were landing. Songbird paid the drivers and they took off back to Canterlot. Spike got out the map. "The library should be around here somewhere." "It's that building that looks like a tree over there." said Songbird pointing to an old house built into a tree. Spike grumbled and tossed the map away. Twilight still didn't want to be there. "Twilight come on, I'm sure that everypony in this town is nice and nice can be." said Spike. As he said that a pink mare, with a fluffy dark pink mane like cotton candy and three balloons as a cutie mark, trotted up. The pink mare took one look at the group, before gasping dramatically and racing off somewhere, leaving the two ponies and dragon stumped at what happened. "Well that was incredibly creepy." said Songbird. "Spike, what's the first thing on the list?" asked Twilight. "First thing on the list is food." "Oh that would be over at Sweet Apple Acres." said Songbird. The three friends then trotted over to the apple farm. As they entered the gate, they saw an orange mare with a blonde mane, tied into a ponytail. She was also wearing a cowgirl hat and had three apples for a cutie mark. Songbird nudged Twilight to go say hi. Twilight sighed, defeated and went up to the country mare. "Um...hi I'm Twilight Sparkle-" Twilight was cut off by the country mare shaking her hoof wildly. "Well howdy do, Twilight a pleasure making your acquaintance. I'm Applejack, what can I do ya for." she said in a southern accent. "Umm, my friends and I are here to check on the food for the celebration tomorrow." said Twilight, her hoof sore from Applejack shaking it. Applejack looked over at Spike and Songbird. "Wait a cotton picking minute! Is that Princess Songbird!" she exclaimed. "See any other alicorns around here." said Songbird. Applejack bowed politely and led her over to a gazebo. "Princess Songbird, you must try our appletastic treats and meet the family behind it all." Songbird was taken aback, but she didn't want to turn down the offer. Applejack whistled and dozens of ponies came running, trampling over Twilight and Spike. Applejack sat Songbird down and Songbird called her friends over. Applejack introduced them to her family, while the Apples piled plates of food in front of the princess. Songbird took a small bite of an apple pie. "Sweet Celestia, this stuff is better than the food we have back in Canterlot." Applejack blushed. Twilight spat out the apple that Applejack had shoved in her mouth. "I'm sorry, but we really need to get going." She tried to walk away but a little red haired filly with a pink bow on her mane, stopped her. What was her name...Apple Bloom wasn't it. "Aren't y'all gonna stay for brunch." she asked, putting on a puppy face. Twilight tried not to fall for the filly's cuteness. "I'm sorry, but we have work to do. Besides Songbird is needed somewhere else." she said. The Apples frowned and Songbird pouted. "Come on Twilight, how can you not resist that adorable little face." She puckered her lips and copied Apple Blooms puppy eyes. Twilight groaned. "Fine, but just for an hour." That hour passed quickly and by then, the group were filled up with apple related foods. "Think I had too much pie." Twilight groaned, her belly was stuffed with goodies. Spike got out the check list. "Item 2: Weather. Apparently there's supposed to be a pegasus named Rainbow Dash clearing the clouds." he said, looking up. Twilight did too, she saw that there were still a few clouds left in the sky. "Well she's not doing a good job." The next thing Twilight, a rainbow light came out of nowhere and knocked her into the mud. "Twilight!" cried Songbird, rushing to her friends aid. Twilight tried to stand up but there was some pony on her. A cyan pegasus with a multicoloured mane and a rainbow lightning zap for a cutie mark. "Oops, sorry. Here let me help." she said, before flying off and bringing back a raincloud with her. The pegasus jumped on the cloud, causing the rain to fall onto Twilight. When the cloud was empty the mare kicked it away and saw a soaking wet Twilight. "Oops, I think I got a little carried away." The mare then began to fly around Twilight faster and faster, forming a tornado. The winds dyed down and the rainbow mare hovered in mid air. She looked down and saw that Twilights mane and tail were messy and tangled. The mare tried to contain a laugh, but failed and she was soon on the ground laughing her head off. Twilight was unimpressed, Songbird was slightly annoyed at the mare for making fun of her closest friend. "I take it you must be Rainbow Dash. Shouldn't you be clearing the clouds." said Songbird, who was slightly put off by this mares attitude. "Yeah in a minute, right now I'm trying to practice." "What for?!" asked Spike. "For the best flyers in Equestria, the Wonderbolts. They're going to perform at the Summer Sun Celebration. And I'm going to show them how cool I am, so I can be on their team." Rainbow Dash, finished her speech with a smug grin. Songbird smirked and decided to use her princess nature to make her get back to work. "Wonderbolts, as in the Wonderbolts. Ha! What a laugh, a highly doubt that they would allow a slacker on their team." she said, smirking at Rainbow Dash. The pegasus was taken aback by this. "Oh yeah, I'm one of the best flyers in Equestria. I could clear these clouds in ten seconds flat." "Prove it then." Rainbow Dash then took to the skies, kicking cloud after cloud. She was going so fast that, you blink and you'll miss it. Songbird, Twilight and Spike were stunned. They just stood there, mouths open. Rainbow Dash had indeed finished kicking the clouds in ten seconds. "Alright, Dashie, you proved your point," said Songbird. "Come on Twilight let's go find some pony to help you with your mane. Ya coming Spike?!" In five minutes they were at the town hall. It had been decorated with sparkly everything; ribbons, streamers, bows and more ribbons. "Looks like the decor is coming along well." said Twilight, she really wanted to go to the library and study. "It's beautiful..." said Spike, dreamily. "It is Spike, the decor is lovely." said Songbird. "Not that, her..." Songbird turned and saw Spike staring at a white unicorn mare, with a dark blue mane and tail in a perfectly fine style and three diamonds for a cutie mark. Songbird noticed that Spike was staring dreamily at the unicorn. The princess chuckled. Did Spike really have a crush on this mare? Twilight approached the unicorn. "Good afternoon-" "Not now darling, I'm in the middle of something," said the unicorn as she tied a red bow around a post. "Yes, Rarity. You've done it again. Now how can I help yo-" The mare, or as they now knew as Rarity, gasped as if she had been stabbed with a knife. "Darling what happened to your hair?" she asked. Twilight looked at her tangled mane. "Oh this, long story. Well, we'll just be going now so we'll be out of your hair." "My hair, what about your hair?" cried Rarity, dragging Twilight back-stage. Songbird and Spike followed behind. In minutes they were inside a beautiful boutique, owned by Rarity. The unicorn had fixed Twilights mane and tail, and was getting her to try on different clothes. Twilight shot Songbird a glance that said one word, 'Help'. "So, where are you all from?" asked Rarity. "We're here from Canterlot to help with the celebration. I'm Songbird, Celestias niece." said Songbird. Right as she said she was Celestias niece, Rarity gasped. "A Princess, in my boutique. This is a dream come true. Oh you must let me give you a makeover darling, light blue is your colour, right?" she said, frantically. "I would like a new mane and tail style." said Songbird, fluffing up her mane. Rarity beamed. "What kind of style, darling." Songbird looked around the boutique at all the styles. None seemed like her. Then she glanced at Rarity's mane and tail. They were perfect. "I'd like you to do my hair in your style." Rarity was shocked. A princess wanted the same mane style as her! "Certainly darling, but I must admit. Your mane is too short for my style. But can still make it fabulous." With a little snip and snap, a simple curl and straightener, Rarity had styled Songbirds mane and tail. "It's beautiful Rarity. Thank you, but now we really must go, a princess has her royal duties." said Songbird. A little while later, the group were walked down the road back to the library, Spike was still swooning over Rarity. "Wasn't she the greatest." he said dreamily. "Settle down Romeo." said Songbird. If only her cousin was here, Cadence was the Princess of Love. Twilight was fed up, but they still had to check on one last thing, Music. Songbird loved music, she had a decent singing voice too. A short distance down the path, they heard a soft melody. About a hundred yards away was a butter coloured pegasus with a pink flowing mane, with three butterflies for her cutie mark and she was conducting a bird choir. Twilight approached the mare. "Hello there!" she said a little to loudly, scaring the birds away. The mare jumped and spun around. Twilight looked at her sheepishly. "Oops, sorry. I didn't mean to scare your birds. Say what is your name." she asked. The mare was clearly a shy pony, because she hid her face behind her long pink mane. She mumbled something that none of them could make out. "I'm sorry could you repeat that." Same result. The mare whimpered, then she looked over Twilights shoulder and saw- "A baby dragon! Oh my gosh, I've never seen a baby dragon. He's so cute." The mare squealed. She rushed past Twilight and stood next to Spike. Spike blushed. "I know." he said smugly. "Oh my Faust! He talks, what do dragons talk about. I'm Fluttershy by the way." "Well, what would you like to know, Fluttershy?" asked Spike. "Absolutely everything." Twilight groaned, this was going to be a long day. After for what seemed like forever, the group had arrived back at the library. "Well, it's been great meeting you Fluttershy, but we really have to do some other stuff here. Duty calls." said Twilight, picking up Spike with her magic. They all stepped inside, slamming the door in Fluttershy's face. "Rude much." Spike grumbled. "I'm sorry, Spike. But we have to get to work trying to find proof that Nightmare Moon is coming back and we're running out of time. Now where's the light." As Twilight said that, a light turned on revealing ponies of every kind in the library. "SURPRISE!" They all cried. Twilight grumbled, Songbird recognised a certain pink pony from earlier. "Surprise! Were you surprised, were you, were you!" she asked, repeatedly. "What is this?!" asked Songbird, out loud. "A welcome to Ponyville party!" said the pink mare. "I'm Pinkie Pie and I know that your new because I've never seen you before in Ponyville and-" Pinkie Pie gasped, dramatically when she saw Songbirds wings. "Oh my gosh, oh my gosh! Your Princess Songbird aren't you!" she asked. Songbird beamed. "Yes, I am." The other ponies in the room gasped and bowed in the presence of Celestias niece. Songbird giggled. She also recognised the ponies from earlier. Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Applejack and Fluttershy were there. Twilight had just about enough of this rubbish and stormed up to her room, or maybe it was because she had just drunk some hot sauce. Songbird then remembered what was happening later on. She had to tell Twilight sooner or later that Nightmare Moon was her mother. But what would she think of her? > The Return of Nightmare Moon > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- After the Pinkie Party, every pony went down to the town hall for the event. Fluttershy's bird choir sounded as the Mayor of Ponyville stepped onto the stage. Songbird was standing next to Twilight in the crowd. "Mares and gentlecolts, as Mayor of Ponyville, it is with great pleasure to announce the beginning of the Summer Sun Celebration!" The crowd cheered, Twilight looked out of the window and saw that the Mare in the Moon was gone. Songbird saw this too and a wave of excitement filled her soul, but also worry. She had no idea if her mother was still Nightmare Moon or if she had changed back into Princess Luna. The Mayor spoke again. "In just a few short moments, we will witness the beginning of the longest day of the year, and now it is with great honour to present to you our ruler, the one who brings us the sun and moon everyday, the good, the wise. Princess Celestia!" Rarity pulled away the curtains, revealing an empty spot. The crowd gasped. The Mayor tugged on her collar. "Um, settle down every pony, there must a reasonable explanation." Pinkie thought Celestia was playing hide and seek. Suddenly a purple smoke emerged from behind the curtains. Songbirds eyes lit up, Twilight gasped as a jet black mare appeared. Songbird gasped. "Nightmare Moon!" she cried. "What have you done to our princess!" Rainbow Dash, demanded but AJ held her back. The mare of darkness chuckled. "It has been so long my subjects, am I not Royal enough for you now that I have been imprisoned for a thousand years. Did you not recall the legend, did you not see the signs of my return." she asked, mocking the ponies. "I did!" cried Twilight. "And I know who you are! Your the Mare in the Moon, Nightmare Moon!" The ponies gasped again, Nightmare Moon chuckled. "Well, well, some pony who remembers me. Now you don't have your precious princess to come and save you." "That's where your wrong! Princess Songbird's here!" cried Twilight, pushing Songbird forward. "Ah Celestias niece, here to protect her subjects, just like Auntie Tia. Show me what you can do, brat!" Songbird felt hurt that her own mother had called her a brat, then she remembered that she was still corrupted, she fired up her horn, ready to cast a spell. But even with all ponies watching her, she couldn't bring herself to hurt her. "I can't..." she said as her horn died down. The ponies gasped. Twilight was stunned. "What are you doing Songbird? This is your chance!" Songbird shot her a glance. "I'm not going to hurt the mare who means the world to me!" she cried, tears streaming down her face. With that Songbird stormed out, crying. "Well, then my little ponies. Remember this day, for it will be your last. From now on the night, will last, FOREVER!" Lightning struck out of nowhere as Nightmare Moons mane and tail swirled around in a spiral shape. The ponies started panicking and running for the exits. Nightmare Moon disappeared in the cloud of purple smoke, Rainbow Dash tried to chase after her, but lost her beyond the trees. Twilight sprinted back to the library with Spike on her back. She was confused as to why Songbird didn't fire at Nightmare Moon right there, or why she stormed out crying. After Twilight had put Spike to bed, she zipped down to the bookshelves. "Elements, elements, where are the Elements of Harmony!" "And just what are the Elements of Harmony!" cried Rainbow Dash. "And how did you know about Nightmare Moon, are you a spy!" Rainbow was yanked back to the ground by Applejack. "Simmer down, Sally. She ain't no spy, but she sure knows what's going on, don't ya Twilight." Twilight sighed deeply. "Nightmare Moon is here to bring ever lasting night. But what I'm most concerned about is why Songbird stormed out like that. And what does Nightmare Moon mean to her." Then they all heard a sobbing sound coming from upstairs. The five ponies followed Twilight upstairs and listened against the door. "She sounds pretty upset." said Fluttershy. The door wasn't locked so they stepped inside. Songbird was lying face down on her pillow, crying her heart out. The picture of her and her mother was sitting next to her, face down on the pillow. The album of photos was lying on the floor the pages opened. "Songbird?" said Twilight. Songbird jerked up and spun around to see the six ponies standing in the doorway. "What do you want?" "We wanna know why ya stormed out, sugarcube. Is there something ya need to tell us?" asked Applejack. "Yes, there is something I need to tell you. But please don't freak out when I tell you this." said Songbird. "We're listening." Songbird took a deep breath through her nose and breathed out through her mouth. "I'm more than just Celestias niece," She took another deep breath. "I'm Nightmare Moons daughter!" The six ponies just stared at her, shocked. "Hold on a second!" cried Pinkie, taking a gulp of water, before doing a spit take. "WHAT!!!!!" "Songbird, why didn't you tell me?" asked Twilight. "I was afraid of what you would think. I was actually present when she got banished to the moon." Now the ponies looked even more shocked. "What happened that day?" asked Rainbow Dash. Songbird sat everypony down and told them everything. On how Nightmare Moon used to be Princess Luna, Celestias younger sister. She told them how her mother became corrupted and how she begged her aunt not to banish her. Fluttershy, Rarity and Twilight were crying, Applejack hung her head and her hat was off, Pinkie was the worst, her bouncy hair had gone flat and dull. She wasn't Pinkie Pie, she was Pinkamena. "How old were you?" asked Twilight, heart broken that her friend had gone through such a thing. She never knew that the song the stars twinkled every night was the lullaby Princess Luna sang to her daughter. "I was five years old." said Songbird. "Sugarcube, I'm so sorry ya had to witness that." said Applejack, putting a comforting hoof around her. "Songbird, you said that you saw the Elements of Harmony. What are they, exactly?" asked Twilight. Songbird wiped her tears away. "They're powerful talismans, only five are known; Honesty, Generosity, Kindness, Laughter and Loyalty. The sixth hasn't been seen for a thousand years, it is said that when the Elements are ignited by the spark, the sixth element will appear, The Element of Magic." Songbird explained. "Where do we find them?" Songbird looked out the window. "I think I have a hunch." > Everfree Elements > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The seven ponies stood outside the entrance to the Everfree Forest. "What makes you think the Elements are in the Everfree Forest." asked Rainbow Dash. "Guys, it wasn't always a forest. Somewhere in this forest is the ruins of my old home. If the Elements are anywhere in Equestria, then they've got to be here." said Songbird, taking a few steps into the trees. She turned around and saw the others were following her. "You guys don't need to come. This is family business." said Songbird. "No can do, Princess. We're not letting you go into that forest alone. We're gonna stick to you, like caramel on a candy apple." said Applejack, trotting up to them. "Caramel, sweet, sweet caramel." said Pinkie, licking her lips (her hair was poofy again). "Nows not the time to be thinking about food!" cried Rainbow Dash, yanking Pinkie by the tail. ------------------------------------------------------------------ A little while later, they were on the edge of a ravine. "This place is spooky. And it ain't natural." said Applejack. "Why wouldn't be natural." asked Rarity. "No pony knows..." said Rainbow, in a spooky voice. "Rainbow quit it." said Songbird. "Cause every pony who has been in here, has never come out!" The cyan pegasus went a little too far and caused, Fluttershy, Pinkie and Rarity to jump. Every pony shrieked when the rocks broke underneath them. Fluttershy, Songbird and Rainbow Dash got out of the way as they wings. But the others didn't. Rainbow grabbed Pinkie by her tail, Fluttershy grabbed Rarity and carried her to safety. Lastly was Applejack and Twilight. The unicorn was getting closer to the edge. Applejack let go of the root she was holding and grabbed onto Twilights hooves. "Applejack! What do I do?!" she asked, frantically. The southern mare looked down and saw Songbird. That gave her an idea. "Let go." Twilight was stunned. "Are you crazy!" "Trust me, just let go and you'll be safe." "Are you sure?!" "Twilight, what I'm saying is the honest truth, let go and you'll be safe." said Applejack. Twilight still wasn't sure, but she let go anyway. She fell down the cliff screaming, then she came to a sudden jolt. She opened her eyes and saw that Songbird had caught her mid air. The alicorn got her friend safety to the ground, while Applejack jumped down the rocks. Songbird dusted herself off and looked back up at the cliff. "That was a little too close for comfort." "Where to now, Songbird?" asked Twilight. Songbird looked around the area and tried to make out where they were. Finally she recognised the small trench. "That way!" she said, galloping in that direction. Rainbow Dash was bragging to Twilight about how she saved them from certain death on the cliff. "Yes Rainbow, I was there." Suddenly a loud roar came from up the path. Everypony screamed when they saw a manticore blocking the only exit. "We have to get past it!" cried Twilight, charging to attack. The others followed behind. Songbird fired up her horn to try and hit the manticore. Rarity hit the manticore with a three branch, but the beast roared in her face. Applejack jumped on its back and rode it like a rodeo bull, but the manticore was too strong and knocked her off. Songbird thought she heard some pony say 'stop'. She looked over and saw Fluttershy's lips move. Then it occurred to her that Fluttershy knew all about the animals of Equestria and that she might know what's wrong. Songbird set off a firework blast from her horn, silencing the fight. "Fluttershy, do you think you can see what's wrong with him?" she asked, ushering towards the yowling manticore. Fluttershy nodded and approached the giant manticore. Her friends cringed when the manticore made a swipe at Fluttershy, but the butter coloured pegasus nuzzled the manticores paw. The manticore held up its paw, revealing a large thorn stuck there. "Oh you poor little baby," said Fluttershy. "Little!" Rainbow questioned. "Now hold still, this will only hurt for a second." Fluttershy pulled the thorn from the manticores paw, causing it to roar in her face. Her friends screamed, but they instead saw the manticore licking Fluttershy's mane and purring playfully. Seeing the chance the rest of the ponies trotted past the manticore, Twilight stopped Fluttershy. "Fluttershy, how did you know that the manticore had a thorn in its paw?" she asked. "I didn't, sometimes we have to show everypony a bit of kindness." Songbird looked around the area of forest. She examined the bark on the trees, finally she found what she was looking for. A carving of her initials, SB. She had carved it there on the day she moved to Canterlot, 900 years ago. "Girls, I know where we are. The ruins are this way, follow me." she said. A minute later they were in a darker part of the forest. Rarity began to complain. "How did a princess like you manage to live in such an icky place?" "Like I said before, this place wasn't always a forest. It was a beautiful grassy field when I was a filly." Songbird explained to Rarity. There was a squelching noise. Applejack held up her hoof. "I think I stepped in something-" She was cut off by Fluttershy screaming at something. Applejack turned around and saw what the fuss was about. There was a tree with a hollow in it, with jagged pieces of wood that looked like teeth around the edges. The ponies looked around and they realised they were surrounded by them. The ponies screamed and huddled together, then they heard laughter coming from somewhere. Every pony stopped and saw Pinkie Pie laughing and making faces at one of the scary trees. "Pinkie what are you doing! Run!" cried Twilight. "Oh girls, don't you see...." The pink mare then started singing. "Tell me she's not." Twilight grumbled. Pinkie: When I was a little filly and the sun was going down.... The darkness and the shadows they would always make me frown.... I'd hide under my pillow at what I thought I saw, But Granny Pie said that's not the way, to deal with fears at all..... Pinkie: She said, "Pinkie, you've gotta stand up tall, learn to face your fears. You'll see that they can't hurt you, just laugh and make them disappear. Ha! Ha! Ha! Sooooooooooo Songbird couldn't help, but join in. Songbird and Pinkie: Giggle at the Ghostly, Guffaw at the Grossly, Crack up at the Creepy, Whoop it up with the Weepy, Chortle at the Kooky, Snortle at the Spooky! The other ponies started laughing at the trees and one by one, the scary faces disappeared with a pop. Pinkie: And tell that big dumb scary face to take a hike and leave you alone then he's got another thing coming, and the very idea just makes you want to, hahahahaha...heh.....LAAUUGGHH!!!!!!!!! Pinkie finished the song and all the ponies were on the ground laughing like crazy. When everypony had calmed down they were off again. Songbird listened closely, she knew that a river flowed near the ruins. If they were anywhere near the river, she would be able to hear it. Her ears perked up when she heard a rush of water. "This way!" she cried, leading the charge. After a short amount of time, they were at the rivers bank, but the waters were wild and rough. Surely they would be crushed if they tried to cross. "What now?!" asked Twilight. The mares then heard a weeping sound coming from down stream. They trotted over and found what was causing the racket. A giant purple sea serpent was thrashing around in the water. Now they knew what was making the water rough. "Um, excuse me sir, is there a problem?" Twilight called out to the serpent. "Well I don't know, I was just sitting here, minding my own business, when this cloud of purple smoke came by and sliced half of my beloved moustache, clean off! And now I look simply horrid!" The giant purple reptile started thrashing around again, ending up splashing the ponies. "That's what all the fuss is about, give me a break!" cried Applejack and Rainbow Dash. Rarity was stunned. "Of it is a big fuss! How can you be so insensitive. Just look at such lovely, luminous scales." The serpent sniffed. "I know, but I don't think any pony can help me." Songbird felt the need to speak up. "That where your wrong, Rarity here is one of the finest fashionistas in Equestria, she even styled the mane of a princess." she said, opening her wings. The serpent gasped. "Your Highness!" he cried, taking a low bow. "I really think Rarity can help you. She knows a lot about fashion," said the princess, making Rarity blush. "Any ideas Rarity?" The unicorn stroked her chin, thinking. She then perked up. "I'm going to need one of your scales." she said to the serpent. The serpent ripped off one of his scales and gave it to Rarity. The unicorn then swung the sharp object down. There was a cutting sound and everyponys eyes widened when they saw Rarity had cut the long part of her tail off. Using her magic she attached the tail onto the remains of serpents moustache. "My moustache, you fixed it! Now I look fabulous!" he cried. "You certainly do." "Rarity, your beautiful tail." said Twilight. "Oh it's fine darling, short tails are in the season, besides it will grow back." said Rarity, holding up what was left of her tail. "So will the moustache!" Rainbow pointed out. Songbird looked over at the river. It had calmed down enough for them to cross. "Let's go girls. The ruins aren't far now." she said, taking a few steps into the water. She then felt the ground underneath her move, and then the serpents body rose out of the water. "Allow me." he said, making a stepping stone motion with his body humps. The ponies hopped over them onto the other side. Songbird started to recognise the area even more. The ponies trotted down the path, then the princess spotted something up ahead. It was the bridge leading to the ruins. "Girls we made it!" she exclaimed. The ponies raced over and saw the ruins of an age old castle. It hadn't been completely destroyed by the natural elements, despite it being there for a thousand years. However when Twilight ran towards the bridge she released that the bridge have been broken. She hadn't seen the broken bridge because of the thick fog emitting the area. "Now what!" asked Pinkie, out loud. Songbird emitted a silvery mist from her horn into the fog, sure enough her mist was blown around. "The winds are too rough, only a strong flyer can get past this," Everypony pony turned to Rainbow Dash. "This ones on you Rainbow." "Can do, Princess Songbird." said Rainbow Dash, taking to the skies. The cyan pegasus dove down and grabbed the stray rope. She flew up onto the other side of the ravine. She was about to tie the rope to the post, when she heard a voice. "Rainbow..." "Who's there! I ain't scared of you!" cried Rainbow Dash. "We have been waiting for the strongest flyer in Equestria. That's you of course." said the voice. Rainbow was touched. "Of course I am, you wouldn't be able to tell the Wonderbolts that." she asked. "No Rainbow, we want you to join us," Then three grey pegasi came running out of the fog. They were wearing maroon uniforms, with yellow lightning bolts on the edges and thick, slanted sunglasses. "We are the Shadowbolts, the greatest flyers in the Everfree Forest, and soon all of Equestria. But we need a captain." They said. Rainbow Dash squealed. "Count me in, folks. Just let me tie this bridge real quick." She was about to grab the rope when the Shadowbolts blocked her path. "NO! It's them or us!" said the one in the middle. Rainbow heard Twilights voice from the other side of the bridge. "Rainbow! What's taking so long!" Songbird then saw the Shadowbolts. "Rainbow Dash! Don't listen to them!" But the princesses voice was blocked out by the heavy fog. "Well..." asked the middle Shadowbolt. Rainbow Dash looked them in the eye. She knew what to do. "Thank you for the offer, but I'm afraid I have to say no." she said, tying the bridge and flying back to her friends. When nopony was looking the Shadowbolts disappeared into a purple smoke. "Good going Rainbow." said Songbird. "See, I never let my friends hanging." said Rainbow Dash. Finally they were at the ruins. > Reunion > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Songbird pushed open the door with her hooves and they all stepped inside. The room they were in was the throne room. There were torn banners and tapestries hanging from the walls. Songbirds attention was on the two thrones, one was decorated with a yellow blanket and a picture of the sun, the other was blue and had a picture of the moon on the fabric. Songbird then looked up at the far wall. There was a portrait of her and her family. She was a baby, being held by her mother, while her aunt was standing over them, proud as punch. A single tear fell down her cheek and onto the floor. She had so many memories in this building, the clearest was the battle of Nightmare Moon. "Sugarcube, are you alright?" asked Applejack. "I'm fine, lets just find those elements." said Songbird, turning away from the portrait. She led the ponies into the room where the elements were. Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash and Songbird got them down, while Pinkie counted them. "Girls, there's only five! Where's the sixth!" she asked. "From what I learned in my studies, when the five are present a spark will make the sixth element appear." said Songbird. "What in the hay is that supposed to mean." asked Applejack. "I have an idea, stand back, I don't know what will happen." said Twilight, firing up her horn. "I'll help you, Twilight." said Songbird, also firing up her horn. The other ponies left the room. "Come on y'all, they need ta concentrate." said Applejack, leading everypony outside. Songbird and Twilight lit up their horns, engulfing the elements in their magic. But then a purple smoke swirled around them. Twilight and Songbird stopped the spell instantly as they tried to grab hold of the elements. The noise had alerted the others from outside. Songbird managed to get a grasp the Element of Generosity, Twilight grabbed hold of her tail. But when the other ponies came sprinting into the room, the Elements vanished, taking Twilight and Songbird with them. They panicked when they scanned the room top to bottom, trying to find them. Rarity looked out the window and saw a light coming from a tower window. "Come on!" cried Applejack, leading the charge. Meanwhile Twilight and Songbird had been teleported to a tower room. They landed with a thud and looked up. There was Nightmare Moon, and she had the Elements! Twilight pawed the ground like a bull, Songbird did the same. Nightmare Moon scoffed. "Your kidding right?" "You're outnumbered Nightmare Moon, there's two of us and only one of you!" cried Twilight, charged up her horn. Nightmare charged straight at the unicorn. But just as they were about to make contact. Twilight disappeared and reappeared next to the elements, having just done a teleportation spell. Songbird did the same and joined her friend. "Just one spark, come on!" They pleaded. Nightmare Moon turned herself into a purple smoke and reappeared in front of the mares. They managed to get the elements light up. Nightmare Moon thought that they had activated the spark, but shockingly the elements fizzed and turned back to being docile. "I don't understand! The spark didn't work!" Twilight cried. "It should of worked!" agreed Songbird. Nightmare Moon chuckled and stomped on the elements, shattering them into tiny shards of crystal. Songbird and Twilight felt like they had just been hit by a train as they watched there only weapon get destroyed in front of them. Songbird held her best friend close to her side as they coward under the dark mares gaze. "Now you will never see your precious princess or sun again. The night will last, FOREVER!" She then broke into mechanical laughter. Songbird and Twilights ears perked up when they heard the sound of voices coming from down the stairs. Suddenly they felt something in the both of them, it was the same feeling they had when they first became friends. That's when they knew. "That's it! That's the spark!" Songbird whispered. Twilight seemed to read her mind. "You think you can destroy the elements that easily. Well your wrong, because the spirits of the elements, ARE RIGHT HERE!" she cried. "Applejack, who reassured me when I was in doubt, represents the spirit of Honesty;" "Fluttershy, who tamed the manticore with her compassion, represents the spirit of Kindness;" "Pinkie Pie, who taught us to laugh in the face of danger, represents the spirit of Laughter;" "Rarity, who calmed a sorrowful serpent with a meaningful gift, represents the spirit of Generosity;" "and Rainbow Dash, who could not abandon her friends for her own hearts desire, represents the spirit of Loyalty. The spirits of this five elements got us through all the challenges you threw at us." cried Twilight, behind her all five ponies were floating with pieces of crystals swirling around their necks. "You still don't have the sixth element! The spark didn't work!" protested Nightmare Moon. "But it did work, we felt it when we realised how happy we were to hear your voices, how much you mean to us, how much we care about you. The spark inside us united us all, that is why you are our Friends!" said Songbird and Twilight. A bright flash of light appeared and a star shaped gem floated down to Twilight. The sixth element. "You see Nightmare Moon, when the elements are united by the spark, it creates the sixth element." cried Songbird. "The Element of Magic!" They all cried. The shards of crystal turned into necklaces, except for the element of magic. That one turned into a crown. Twilight opened her eyes and Songbird was shocked to see that they had turned white. Then a bright coloured rainbow exploded from the elements, the rainbow hit Nightmare Moon. The mares screams echoed threw the room as the elements transformed her. Then everything when black. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Songbird shook everyone awake, they had all been knocked out by the blast. Each one of them, except Songbird was wearing a necklace with a gem cut to the shape of their cutie mark. "Look at your necklaces, they look just like your cutie marks." she said. "Your right. And they're beautiful." said Rarity, she then looked behind her and saw..."My tail, I will never part with it again." she swooned. "Ya know Twilight, I thought you were just spouting a lot a hooey, but I reckon we do represent the elements." said Applejack. "Indeed you do." called a voice. Everypony turned to see a white alicorn with a morning coloured mane and tail. "Auntie Tia!" cried Songbird, rushing to her aunt. "Princess Celestia." said Twilight, joining in on the hug. "Songbird, my beautiful niece and Twilight, my faithful student. I'm so proud of the both of you." said the sun princess. "But you told us that it was just an old pony tale." Twilight protested. "I told you to make some friends with ponies who have different personalities than you. I saw the signs of Nightmare Moons return and I knew that only you girls who have the magic to defect her." explained Celestia. There was a cough and everypony turned to see a dark blue alicorn with a night sky mane that seemed to defy gravity, just like Celestias. "Princess Luna," Celestia began. The mare gasped. "It has been a thousand years since I have seen you, time to put our differences behind us. We were meant to rule together little sister, besides some pony has missed you." Celestia motioned over to Songbird, who was standing there looking like she was about to cry. "M-m-mommy, it is really you?" she asked, tears pouring out of her eyes. She couldn't believe her eyes, after a thousand years of separation. She was finally seeing her mothers turquoise eyes again. Luna was stunned at how much her daughter had grown. She wasn't a little filly anymore, she was a grown mare. Luna looked away from her daughter in shame. She let that demon take over her and corrupt her mind, thus leaving her daughter without a mother. She didn't get to see her grow up. Songbird wanted to see if her mother would remember their song, so she started singing. Everypony held their breath when they watched in silence. Songbird: Constant as the stars, above, Always know that you are loved, And my love shining in you, Will help you make your dreams, Come true, When she didn't get a response from her mother she looked away, saddened. Then everypony heard a faint voice that wasn't Songbirds. Songbird felt her eyes begin to water, her heart leapt as she recognised the voice. Luna: A lamb lies down and rests its head, Songbird joined in again with more feeling. Songbird: On its mothers downy bed, Luna: Dolphins play in the moonlights glow, And butterfly dream of a violet rose, Both: Dreams of a violet rose, They linked arms and started to circle each other to the rhythm. Luna: I'll cradle you in my arms tonight, Songbird: As sun embraces the moonlight, Both: The clouds will carry us off tonight, Our dreams will run deep like the sea, Our dreams will run deep like the sea, Both: Constant as the stars, above, Always know that you are loved, And my love shining in you, Will help you make your dreams, Come true Will help your dreams, Come...true..... Songbird couldn't hold back her joy. "You remember!" she cried, jumping into her mothers open arms and wings, Luna pulled her daughter into a life long hug, sobbing into her light blue mane. She never wanted to be separated from her daughter again. "Never let me go Mommy!" sobbed Songbird, sounding like filly again. Luna felt her heart swell with a mothers love. "Never again, sweetie. Never again!" Everypony sniffed as they watched the touching scene before them. They all knew that Songbird would never be empty anymore, now that she had her mother with her again. Celestia pulled the two alicorns into an embrace. "Our family, whole again." Luna looked up at her sister. "I'm so sorry, I missed you both so much." she cried. The moon princess looked down at her daughter. "Songbird, please forgive me. I was jealous that the ponies loved the sun more than our beautiful night. I only wanted the best for you, if I had known the consequences of my doing, I wouldn't have become Nightmare Moon. But I'm so proud of you, you never gave up hope that you and I would reunite someday." she said. "Hope is what got us this far, having faith in ourselves got us through the challenges of the Everfree Forest. I forgive you mommy." said Songbird. Suddenly a bright light appeared in the room. From the light, a clear diamond necklace that matched the Elements of Harmony necklaces floated down into Songbirds hooves. The diamond was cut into a music note, matching Songbirds cutie mark. "What is it?" she asked. "I think, it's a new Element of Harmony. An Element of Forgiveness." said Celestia. "A seventh element! But there's nothing about a seventh, only a sixth." Songbird pointed out. "That's because it has just been created. It is an event that Equestria has never seen before." Celestia explained. "Sweet! A Songbird's got her own element." said Rainbow. Luna took the necklace from her daughter and placed it around Songbirds neck. "It suits you." Songbird looked down at the peace of jewellery around her neck. The necklace was silver, but in the same shape as the others and the diamond music note was sitting in the centre of the base. "It's beautiful." Luna smiled. "Just like you, baby girl." she said. Celestia smiled and turned to the other ponies. "Come on, let's go home." > Epilogue > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Never in a thousand years had there been so much joy. Celestia rose the sun once again, for all the ponies to enjoy. The ponies celebrated the return of their lost Luna princess, and Luna apologised to them for her actions and promised that she'll never let that demon into her mind again, for the sake of her daughter. "If you do that again, I'm going with you." Songbird joked. Luna chuckled and embraced her daughter. "Let's just forget about the past and enjoy this party." she said. Luna felt terrible for her past actions decided to express her love for her daughter in song, so she whispered in Vinyl Scratch's ear to play a slow song. The DJ complied and called everyponys attention to Luna. The princess stood up on the platform and spoke out to the crowd. She saw her daughter in the back row, along side her sister and daughters friends. "Everypony, thousand years from today, I became corrupted by dark forces that turned me into Nightmare Moon. My older sister, Princess Celestia was forced to banish me to the moon. It was then that I realised that my actions were foolish and I was separated from my daughter, Princess Songbird." The ponies listened with wide eyes. "But you know something, she never gave up hope that we would be reunited and still loved me to the very end. I also never gave up hope that I would be free of the cursed Nightmare. I love you Songbird, all the way to the moon and back." The crowd awed at how much love was pouring out from the moon princess. She then started singing out the feelings she had been holding back for so long Song: (A Thousand Years) Heart, beats, fast, Colours and promises, How to be brave, How can I love when I'm afraid, to fall, Watching you stand, alone, All of my doubt, suddenly goes away somehow, One, step, closer.... I have died everyday waiting for you, Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a Thousand Years, I'd love you for a Thousand more, Time stands still, Beauty, in all we do, I will be brave, I will not let anything take away, What's standing in front of me, Every breath, every hour has come to this, One step closer... I have died everyday waiting for you, Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a Thousand Years, I'd love you for a Thousand more, All this time, you believed, You would find me, Time as brought me back to you, I have loved you for a Thousand Years, I'd love you for a Thousand more, One step closer.... I have died everyday waiting for you, Darling, don't be afraid, I have loved you for a Thousand Years, I'd love you for a Thousand more, All this time, you believed, You would find me, Time as brought me back to you, I have loved you for a Thousand Years, I'd love you for a Thousand more, A Thousand Years.... Luna felt the tears fall down her cheeks, before being embraced by her daughter. The ponies awed and stomped their hooves in applause. "My brave and beautiful little girl." she sobbed. "I love you so much Mommy." whispered Songbird. "I love you to, my star princess." When the day ended, mother and daughter flew off into the night sky, back to their home in Canterlot. Never again will they be separated from each other, for the bond between a mother and a daughter, never dies...
