> Road Trip > by ShadowblazeCR > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > It's Just Around the Corner > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rocks and pebbles clacked against the car as it drove along the side road, the especially uneven road provided many bumps and curves for the car to drive over and around. The various rocks and pebbles were annoying, and slightly frightening as the driver didn't want any scratches or cracks on their windshield. While plethora of potholes, or really just holes (it was a dirt road) dotted the path, it was more of a concern to the passenger than the vehicle itself. Any wildlife in the vicinity was running for its life as it heard screams of terror, most would assume these animals wouldn't understand a simple scream. But this particular scream spoke to them on an instinctual level, causing some to freeze up and others to flee. Sadly, some were unlucky in the aspect of escape and froze in the road, luckily the driver was able to avoid most of said animals. Most. Red mounds occasionally would be between a hole and curve in the road, as the driver would have no time to avoid the poor animal. Yet, still the woman in the passenger seat was screaming all the while. Though, with the music chosen by the driver, it wasn't nearly as loud a scream as one would think. The driver slammed on the brakes, swerving here and there as the car stopped in front of an animal which had been an unavoidable hazard if the driver hadn't to stopped. “Now you stop Scratch!? What about the other dozen rodents you mauled in the last half hour?” Vinyl Scratch; EDM artist, music extraordinaire, and all around party animal turned to her friend. “Those were all squirrels Octavia, and squirrels are evil.” Octavia Philharmonica; cellist, classical enthusiast, and Canterlot Elite turned to her friend gesturing to the animal in front of them, “And that is not okay to maul with your tires?” The animal in the road skittered away, thanking its animal gods as it ran far, far away from the monster on the road. Vinyl gestured to said animal, “Why would I run over a porcupine!? They're adorable as heck.” “You just didn't want your tires popped.” Octavia mumbled as the car returned to its previous speed. The one benefit of the bumpy roads, for Octavia specifically, was the bumpiness itself. Physics seemed to be out the window, quite literally actually, as her physics book had long since jumped out of the open window (now closed because of the kamikaze textbook). The combined bumps and lost physics provided possibly the greatest show ever known to the universe, or more specifically Octavia at the moment, which was a full on show of bounce per bump. Every bump raised the beautiful chest up and then down as the car did the same, but right back up again as either another bump was in the road, even sometimes a hole, or just the momentum carrying over from a previous bump. Octavia’s mouth watered slightly at the magnificent show, her blood rushing to her cheeks as she blushed madly. But it wasn't just her blood rushing, her head was rushing too, which was quite peculiar. Her curiosity was satisfied as pain blossomed in her head. “Ow! Vinyl why'd you stop?” Octavia rubbed her head, it was still hurting from slamming against the dashboard. “There's a stop sign, Octy!” “What? In the middle of nowhere? There's no way there's a stop sign this far from civilization.” Octavia looked at the road in front of them, and sure enough there was a stop sign to the right of them. A road was also to the right, accompanying the road and stop sign was the name of the road: Nowhere Rd. “Oh come on!” Vinyl sighed and continued on the road ahead, “Don't worry about it Octy, you get used to it.” “I can't believe I agreed to come with you in the first place, I could have stayed in Canterlot playing my cello. But no, we have to go on a ‘road trip’.” Octavia added air quotes for emphasis. Vinyl huffed, “Hey, it's only what? Like, the third time you've let me drive, it's always you driving.” “It's actually the first time Scratch,” Octavia replied, “Based off my experiences watching you drive in video games, I'm pretty surprised that you even have a license.” “Pssh, I drive fine.” “First of all, let's think about the last half or or so. I'm fairly certain that's not a good defense for you Vinyl.” Octavia continued, “And have you actually thought and watched you drive in video games?” “If I'm so bad, give me an example yeah?” Vinyl pouted, laying her head against the seat. “You crashed so many times in one of your racing games that the game said to give up.” Octavia said, deadpan. “Okay, well, I still passed my driving test.” “After multiple attempts.” Octavia pointed out. “Fine, I'm not the greatest at driving, are you happy now?” “Quite.” The duo became silent as time passed, not much had passed though until Octavia grew increasingly curious about the amount of time left before their ’road trip’ was over. “So, how much further is this destination, which by the way I'm still curious as to why you have yet to tell me what it is.” “It’s just around the corner.” It was not just around the corner. Octavia sighed for the upteenth time, feeling quite sleepy surprisingly. Luckily, the road had evened out and become what seemed to be an actual road. It was narrow enough that it had forced Vinyl to drive safely, giving Octavia enough hope to think she may survive the ordeal. “Just around the corner, she says. Sure, we've a only turned five corners, but I'm sure that it was just a general statement.” Octavia grumbled. Vinyl swung her head to the side, glaring at Octavia, not paying attention the car swerving many different directions, “Hey! I'll have you know that this place really is just around the corner.” Without glancing at the road, somehow Vinyl drifted the car around the upcoming corner, leaving Octavia with her mouth fully hanging open. “I think I deserve more credit.” “For what Scratch? Almost sending us to our deaths?” “But I didn't.” “Fine! What about mauling innocent animals with your tires? Oh, and let's not forget, the reckless driving too! Seriously, what was the point of this!?” Vinyl pulled into a parking lot, “This is what you should be thankful for, bringing us to the one place that has the one thing that no other place has.” Octavia looked at the building in front of them, “A grocery store...have you lost your mind Vinyl Scratch?” “What?” Vinyl said, “You don't know what this place has?” “And what per say, would a generic grocery story have?” Octavia replied, tapping her foot in annoyance. Vinyl grinned, “Twinkies!”
