> Would You Die For Me? > by GoldenChaos > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Would You Really? > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Smiling merrily, the new wedded couple burst into the cottage. All of Fluttershy's animals gathered around her, squeaking in congratulations, to the couple, hoping Fluttershy would be happy, and best wishes to them. "Thank you so much!" smiled Fluttershy, fluttering up to Discord's level and pecking him on the cheek. Before she could react, Discord pulled her over for a long, passionate kiss. The kiss lasted for minutes, and then they broke apart, gasping for air. The animals chattered as they melted in the adorableness. "My dear, you are not only beautiful, kind, and caring," started Discord, and Fluttershy giggled, blushing crimson. "But an amazing kisser." Fluttershy hid behind her mane, smiling. "Ah, ah, ah. No hiding from your hubby." Discord scooped Fluttershy into his arms, sweeping her mane away. "D-D-Discord! Put me down!" laughed Fluttershy, trying to scold Discord, but failing. Discord nuzzled her cheek, and smiled warmly. "I am your husband, therefor giving me the right to do anything I please," said Discord, and winked, causing Fluttershy to go red. "Umm, let's not talk about THAT yet," squeaked Fluttershy. Discord laughed merrily. "I was only joking!" laughed Discord. "You need to lighten up." Discord carried Fluttershy to the couch he loved in the living room, and snapped his talon, lighting the fire in the fireplace. He swept the curtain to see the beautiful sunset in the distance. Fluttershy sighed contently and nuzzled into his fur. Discord turned slightly pink, and gazed at her. "Hmm," sighed Fluttershy, getting comfortable, closing her eyes. "You are so beautiful," cooed Discord. "I couldn't find anypony else better than you." Fluttershy opened her sparkling eyes, which glistened with tears of happiness. "No crying for my beautiful wife." He wiped her eyes. "I love you, Discord," said Fluttershy. "I love you too, for now, and eternity," replied Discord. He bent his neck downwards, and kissed her once again. This kiss was shorter, and more calm instead of passionate. Fluttershy pulled away suddenly. "I forgot to feed the animals!" exclaimed Fluttershy, and raced away, before Discord could react. Once she left, a thought entered his mind. What would he do once she died? Discord gulped, feeling tears enter the corners of his eyes. He wiped them away before they escaped, and thought. He could make her immortal! Discord raised his paw to cast the spell, but stopped. Fluttershy would be losing a lot, and he would need to talk to her first. He looked down, and waited for what felt like ages for her to return. Minutes and minutes. What was taking her so long? Discord sighed in relief as she entered the room. "Sorry, some of the animals were misbehaving," said Fluttershy, walking toward Discord and the couch. "Would you live forever for me?" blurted out Discord. Fluttershy's jaw dropped, and she took a moment to process what entered her ears. "W-What?" stammered Fluttershy. Discord narrowed his eyes. "Will you be immortal and stay with me for all eternity?" asked Discord again. Fluttershy remained silent, and she looked to the ground, her eyes watery. "I-I-I," started Fluttershy. "Can't." Discord gave out a low growl, standing up. "And why not?" snapped Discord. "You love me and I love you. Why wouldn't you want to stay with me forever?" Fluttershy couldn't meet his eyes. "Because I would lose all my friends, minus Twilight," explained Fluttershy. "And if we had a child, I wouldn't be able to bear being at the funeral of my own child!" Discord rolled his eyes. "So you would torture Twilight by dying, her last friend?" asked Discord. "And also I could easily make our child immortal." "But then our foal would ask for his or her partner and child to be immortal, and before long, Equestria would be full of immortal ponies, making it impossible to hold the life we know today," replied Fluttershy. "So, you choose death over your husband?" asked Discord, turning away from her. "Shows how much you love me." Fluttershy's eyes couldn't hold the tears, and she reached her hoof out for Discord. "Discord..." Fluttershy cried. "NO!" yelled Discord, whipping around. "If you choose to die than be with me forever, it shows me on how you never truly loved me. So, since you want to die and rid of me, how about I leave now." He turned away, and headed for the door, his paw reaching for the handle. Fluttershy's yellow hoof suddenly held his paw. Discord's glare softened as he felt the tender, loving touch once again. He turned to Fluttershy, her eyes glistening in tears. His heart broke when he realized he was the one who caused the tears. He groaned, bringing his claw to his face. "I-I can't be immortal because of how much I will lose," said Fluttershy. "I love you more than life itself, but, my life will lose meaning if I live day, after day, after day, knowing I will lose all the ponies I love and care about. You will be able to live without me. You are as amazing as that." Discord couldn't bring himself to meet her eyes. "I give up," said Discord. "Keep your mortality." Fluttershy seemed to brighten a bit at his understanding, but then she grew a sad look as the words' true meaning sunk in. "I-I'm sorry," apologized Fluttershy. "I wish I could be immortal with you, but I just.... I just can't." Discord nodded. "Because of your friends," replied Discord knowingly. Fluttershy hesitated, but nodded. "I hope you understand," said Fluttershy, taking a seat on the couch, and Discord summoning a chair across the room. She didn't notice the snap of his tail feathers. Months went by after Discord casted his spell. Fluttershy had been asking to have a baby, but Discord was reluctant. He didn't know if it could happen, and his mind was plagued with guilt of having a secret kept from his wife. His carefree, happy personality molded into a nervous one. Fluttershy didn't fail to notice, and often asked Discord if anything was wrong. Little did he know how much he was hurting her. She had enough one day. "Discord, you're hiding something from me," started Fluttershy firmly. "Something has been bothering you. Please, tell me. You can trust me." Discord sighed. "I can't," replied Discord. Saying those two words reminded him of the conversation he had with Fluttershy a few months back. She seemed to notice too. "Is it something to do with our... discussion?" asked Fluttershy. "I really am sorry. It's my fault I can't take the pain. I'm just a weak pegasus." Before she knew it, Discord wrapped around her. "It's not your fault!" retorted Discord. "I would understand, but I'm used to ponies passing. But I was being driven mad by the thought of losing you. You are not weak. Though you may not realize it, you are stronger than Rainbow Dash herself." Fluttershy turned slightly pink, and smiled softly. "But can you tell me what's wrong?" asked Fluttershy. "I can't bear to see you so upset and you not telling me why." Discord groaned and looked away. "Fine, you deserve to know the truth," grumbled Discord. "My dear, you got me again!" He gave her a toothy grin, and she looked up expectantly. Discord frowned and sighed. "On that day we had our discussion, I cast a spell," confessed Discord. Fluttershy immediatly pulled away, scowling at Discord. "I told you not to make me immortal!" snapped Fluttershy. "Please, undo the spell. I don't want to lose my friends. We talked about this!" Discord snorted. "Who said I cast the spell on you?" asked Discord, and Fluttershy fell silent, as her eyes widened in realization. "You didn't..." gasped Fluttershy, tears welling in her eyes. Discord's solemn expression gave her the answer. She burst into tears, and hugged Discord. "No, no, no! Please, undo the spell. Don't die for a worthless pegasus like me!" Discord felt a tear fall down one of his cheeks. "I'm sorry, but I can't live without you," replied Discord, sadness clear in his voice. "I won't let you! I forbid it!" growled Fluttershy, suddenly very angry. "NO NO NO!" She started pounding his chest feebly, not making an injury on Discord. She sobbed loudly as she did so, growing slower and slower before stopping and collapsing on the ground. She buried her face in her hooves. "This is all my fault. I did this to you." "Oh stop blaming yourself," snapped Discord, and realized this didn't help. His tone softened. "I made the decision myself. Since you didn't want to live forever with me, I wish to die with you. I love you more than even chaos. Life without you would be a living Tartarus." Fluttershy looked up, her eyes red. She sniffled. Discord continued, his voice and eyes filled with passion and determination. "I have made my mistakes, not just one but many, but this is the best decision I made in my entire life." Fluttershy leapt up and held Discord tightly. "Please don't do it," begged Fluttershy. Her tears wet Discord's fur, and he held her tightly. "I'm not worth your life." "You're right," agreed Discord. "You are worth far more." "No I'm not!" cried Fluttershy. "Don't die for me! Please, be immortal and have the happy free life you were meant to have." Discord shook his head. "No," replied Discord. "Would you die for me?" Fluttershy sniffed. "Yes," she replied. "And I would die for you," vowed Discord. "Remember from our wedding; 'Til death do us part. And death will do us apart. Please, accept this. I am not changing my mind." Fluttershy gave a nervous smile. "You were always so stubborn," Fluttershy said softly. "Please, give me time to think about this." Discord nodded. "I did this because I love you," said Discord. Fluttershy looked into his eyes, her eyes sparkling. "I love you too," replied Fluttershy. "I forgive you." Discord rolled his eyes. "Why forgive me? I didn't wrong you, my dear," smirked Discord as he crossed his arms. "I see you're back to your old antics," smiled Fluttershy. Discord smiled back. "I think I can accept that you want to die with me." > At the Edge > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Discord sadly met the teal eyes of Fluttershy. It was the day, where everything would end, for the both of them. Fluttershy was about to die. Discord's spell made it so he would die when she would. Fluttershy didn't look old, except for her eyes. In her eyes she carried the memories and experience of life, from the harshness to the beautiful times she had with friendship and love. Her mane was white as well. But, Fluttershy looked only twenty, since she never wrinkled. Discord smiled softly, grabbing her yellow hoof, rubbing it with his thumbs. "So, it's time," said Discord softly. Fluttershy smiled sadly. "I'm afraid so," said Fluttershy. "How long do you think?" asked Discord. "A few hours," replied Fluttershy. It was fantastic how few words they had to share, still being able to understand what the other was asking or saying. Discord's heart tugged with fear. Would he make it well in the afterlife? He had done terrible things. Maybe he wouldn't make it to Heaven, where his beloved Fluttershy was going to go. Of course she would make it. Her heart was so pure. Discord had thought from the moment he gotten to know her that she probably was an angel descended from Heaven. Even know, at the edge of her life, all he saw was purity. No fear for the unknown of the afterlife, no resentment to her past troubles. They were together, and would die together. "Discord, you do know you can turn back," said Fluttershy. Discord nearly jumped. "Er, what?" asked Discord. "Discord, you can still live," said Fluttershy. Tears appeared at the corners of her eyes. "I know you want to die with me, but surely you can live without me. I know we had this conversation forty years ago." Discord's eyes clouded, remembering the forty best years of his centuries of life. "Fluttershy," started Discord, before being silenced by a hoof. He looked down to the yellow, soft hoof on his mouth. "Discord, let me continue," said Fluttershy softly. "I know you love me, but I love you. My dying wish is for you to live." Discord's jaw dropped. He shook his head. "I'm sorry, my dear, I won't live," said Discord. "I know you want me to, but I am going to be selfish. I don't want to live without you, so I won't." Fluttershy's eyes widened, and Discord looked away. "Don't start that trick on me now, missy." "But Discord," whined Fluttershy. Discord closed his eyes. "This is a hard decision," said Discord. "But you're worth me giving up my life. You're actually worth much more. We had this discussion before, and I'm giving you the same answer. No. I'm not going to live without you." Fluttershy smiled weakly, before coughing. Discord winced at the sound. It sounded painful. The door to the bedroom creaked open, to see three mares walk in. Twilight, Applejack, and Rainbow walked inside. Discord's mind filled with agony, as he felt Fluttershy's heart rate slow down. His life was coming to an end, and soon. Rarity and Pinkie Pie had not made it. They both had died. Rarity died of old age, maintaining her color and youthful looks. She had put on a couple of pounds, but she still looked like her early thirties. Pinkie had died twenty years ago. She had gone to a party in Canterlot, request of Princess Celestia, but somepony had spiked her drink with poison. She didn't even get to marry her fiance, Cheese Sandwich. Cheese had disappeared soon after. A sniffling sound came from Rainbow Dash. She was the first to break, after all these years of staying strong. Discord knew it was because of her bond with Fluttershy. Originally, Discord thought she was in love with Fluttershy, until she announced her engagement with Soarin Skies of the Wonderbolts. They had a sisterly love. Rainbow was lucky. She had a few gray streaks in her mane, and her vibrant mane had dulled, but she didn't have a wrinkle on her. She had been grounded, five years ago, when the doctor told her that her wings were too weak to fly. "F-Fluttershy," whimpered Rainbow. Her voice sounded rusty from her age. She rushed over to her friend, hugging her, not too tightly due to the fear of hurting her. "Hello, Rainbow," said Fluttershy. She hugged her back. Applejack stepped towards Discord, anger in her eyes. It was insane, how her eyes held so much strength when her body was weak like Granny Smith's. Next to Rainbow, she looked twenty years older, due to the wrinkles, when she was actually two years younger than the cyan pegasus. "Discord, can't ya do anythin'?" shouted Applejack. "Yer wife is layin' here dyin', and all ya do is sit in this here spot and wait. What'cha waitin' for? A chance to take back Equestria?" Her voice was weak. "Applejack, stop!" cried out Fluttershy, releasing her hug from Rainbow, who stared in shock. Applejack ignored her cry. "Yer the most selfish creature Ah've ever seen," Applejack snarled. "Just lettin' her die, and let us suffer." "Applejack, everypony dies," said Twilight, rushing over. "Even I will die. Alicorns live to be three thousand, before dying." Applejack stepped away from her. "Well, Discord ain't goin' to die!" said Applejack. "He is happily sittin' at the side, watchin' everypony die, since he breaks all the rules, including not dyin'!" "You're not making any sense, AJ," said Rainbow, narrowing her eyes. "Feel some sympathy for Discord, will ya? Fluttershy might be our friend, but she is Discord's wife!" "Ah know full well how it feels to lose somepony ya love," said Applejack, tears running down her cheeks. "But Discord is just waitin' for her to die." "With every passing second to her death, comes mine," said Discord. Silence filled the room. "Let me rephrase that. When Fluttershy dies, I will too." "H-How?!" exclaimed Twilight, her jaw hanging. "I have cast a spell, binding my soul to her own. So, when she dies, I will as well. So this is goodbye, my friends," said Discord, smiling sadly. Applejack took off her hat. "Ah'm mighty sorry," said Applejack. "Ah had no idea." "Not you too," said Twilight, tears forming as her eyes dilated. "After Pinkie, Rarity, and Fluttershy..." She sobbed in her hooves. Rainbow was speechless. Fluttershy coughed, and Discord felt his heart slow. "I fear it is time," said Discord, his voice weakening. He slowly walked over to the bed, coiling around Fluttershy. She felt cold. The only sign of life was the slow blinking and rise and fall of her chest. "I love you, girls," said Fluttershy. She looked up at Discord. "I love you, Discord." She gave him a kiss on the lips, which lasted for a few seconds. "I love you too, my sweet, beautiful Fluttershy," said Discord, his eyes spilling with tears. Fluttershy collapsed on the bed. She wasn't breathing. Discord's heart gave a painful beat, and he felt it stop. "They're dead," said Twilight softly. It was true. Their fur was starting to become brittle. The three of them broke into sobs.
