De Writer's Tale

View Online

De Writer wandered the Equestrian land

For all the long ages since he was banned.

He wrote long ago and continues this day

To record the reign of the Night and the Day.

He wrote the laying of the first stone

Of the fortress that housed Celestia’s Throne.

Celestia and Luna began the great fight

Over whose were the skies and who had the right.

Each commanded De Writer to say

That hers alone was the only right way

But De Writer was guided by the word of another,

Of BOTH Princesses, their Mother.

His words in the Chronicle angered the two.

On THIS they agreed what to do!

From the Court and the Castle, he was sent away

But his impartial pages still recorded their fray.

The Chronicle grew and none could say how

But De Writer continued to fulfill his vow.

Long in the past, before the rulers were born,

De Writer was simply a blue unicorn

When, to the Mother, he bowed his horn

She gave him charge of the Orb of the Ages

To assist in the writing of his honest pages.

In it could be seen from present to past

Giving the Chronicler a view that was vast.

But one small thing had been unsaid

The keeper of the Orb could not be dead.

The Ob and its keeper in TRUE present are found,

The moment that’s gone and cannot be bound.

All that is seen, all that is heard, is already PAST.

The Orb and its Keeper continued to last

In the Orb he sees things that are true

And Writes the truth as he was ordered to do.

Down through the ages to the PRESENT he’s bound

As family and friends he’s laid in the ground.

His heart, with his love, in many a grave

And he continues, to the Orb a slave.

And he Writes, as he must,

While his Loves become dust.

On Equestria's Roads

Cherry Mystic's hooves raised little clouds of dust,
The mission she'd taken, a sacred trust.
The road she was on was hot and dry
The dangerous plains of T'ang were past any eye.
She'd fought off gryphons and deadlier foes
To fulfill the mission she chose.
~
Passing through the Everfree's hidden ways
Had brought her here after many days.
Everywhere she looked the ponies were strange.
And she saw no safe open range.
There were ponies with wings, flying the air,
On the ground, normal ponies and unicorns everywhere!
~
The herds and bands of the ponies from T'ang
Needed a place that was safe from weather and fang.
This land she'd found had no place to graze,
Many strange ponies met her gaze.
Behind her she heard harness creak and jingling bell,
Gaily decked ponies, the wagons they dwell.
~
Several bright caravans passed her by
When a black unicorn caught her eye.
Her tail and mane were white as snow
And with tooled harness she made a show.
She looked at Cherry with eyes that were kind,
Called to the others, “Harness adjust! I'll drop behind!”
~
The pretty painted caravan pulled to the side
And the unicorn invited Cherry with pride,
“Black Lotus, my name. If you pull with me
Feed and water I'll give you free.
Another harness I have for when Father is here
It will fit you, never fear.”
~
Cherry Mystic was hungry and thirsty indeed
So for the promise, she agreed.
Side by side they began to haul,
Black Lotus set the pace with a cheerful call.
Regarding her guest, she said, “You are not from here.
What you tell, I shall give ear.”
~
Cherry Mystic gave careful thought
Of what to say and what she should not.
“I am from the dangerous plains of T'ang
Where ponies suffer from claw and fang
And the weather there is another foe
Destroying our crops before they grow.
~
I was seeking a safe place for my herd to be
But this land has no room for me.”
Black Lotus smiled and said, “You pull more
Than your share of this drayage chore.
Spend time with us, with me you can stay.
More than work, Rom love to play.
~
“When we camp tonight, about the fire,
The Rom will want your tale until you tire!”
That evening, for dinner, the Rom made bread
With treats and ate every shred.
They took turns with story, or music and some danced.
Cherry Mystic, watching, was entranced.
~
Cherry's eyes and ears were filled with fun
But her hooves of activity had none.
Almost without thought, for something to do,
Cherry began “slight of hoofing” a coin or two.
Silence fell, all eyes on her, their attention warm,
As the Rom watched Cherry Mystic's hooves perform.
~
Cherry looked about in clear surprise
At the admiration in those watching eyes.
“I am sorry, I have much to learn.
I did not mean to take some pony's turn.”
Laughter galed about the fire
“You hold the stage at our desire!”
~
“To us, indeed this is something new!
We have never seen these things you do!
Magic, for us comes from the horn
Of a well skilled Unicorn!
We see those coins come and go
And never have seen such a show!
~
“You can do wonders with a coin or two,
We really wish to see what else you do!
Coming up soon is another Fair!
Would you be willing to work with us there?”
Cherry Mystic heard them and smiled.
“This? It is but the play of a child!
~
“In Mystic Effects I have a degree!
I believe that you will like what you will see!”
She held out an empty hoof, showing both sides
And pulled out a scarf and more besides.
Then from her hooves a deck appeared.
Cards fanned and flowed and disappeared.
~
Cherry shrugged and offered, “I can do far more,
Many a thing that ponies adore
But I need to make both part and prop.
For that sort of work, I need a shop.”
Rom, leader of Rom, said quietly, “We have many a tool
If you can teach such work in a small school.”
~
Cherry thought carefully, her host not to offend,
“This wanderer your ponies were the first to befriend.
I would teach gladly if I were going to stay
But I need to find a place where my band won't be prey.
To find them safety is the thing that I must
It is both my duty and a sacred trust.
~
“I have been seeking a place for them to be
I may need to try again the hidden ways of the Everfree.”
Black Lotus bowed to Cherry and bent her head,
“You have looked in the wrong places,” she said.
“The lands are full with not a doubt
But there is another route.
~
Eight hundred years since we came to this land.
It was full then, as it is now, no place for a refugee band.
And yet we are here and and found us a place
And we managed to settle our whole race.
Your ponies have room, if they will share our loads,
With us here, On Equestria's Roads.”

Feather's Day

View Online

Feather the pony was dancing on a ball
The Circus audience was waiting for a fall.
With bobbing plumes, she completed her trick
And hopped free with a hind hoof flick.
The pink pony with white tail and mane
Gave a bow with a smile that hid her pain.

In her dressing stall she hung her costume
With its bright straps, skirts and plume.
In her dressing mirror a lonely pony looked back.
Before her next job she needed a snack.
To the paypony's stall she trotted her way
Three bits he shorted from her pay.

Rudely, he told her, “It's a new fee!
From now on, coin counting ain't free!”
Whickering at his evil joke,
A few more words he spoke.
“You can still earn full pay
But with me you have to play!”

The sad pink pony left for her main work
Being a Dairy Maid “milk-jerk.”
She went to her place in Stall 14
And hooked herself to the machine.
It pumped her udder of the milk she sold.
She wished better ways to earn bits of gold.

At least, Dairy Maid Dairy paid her fair,
But it was never enough for the little mare.
She had stall rent that she needed to pay
And there was always the cost of her hay.
The mirror in her stall showed a lonely mare;
She wished that it showed a stallion there.

She wished for a mate who was good and kind,
Not another who would leave her behind.
She settled herself in the straw of her bed
And on a chaff pillow rested her head.
At least in her dreams she was treated well
And that was what made her waking life hell.

Princess Hailee's Solstice

View Online

Princess Hailee on her balcony watched the snow
And listened to the winds blow.
It was the Solstice, shortest day of the year.
The Winter Princess had naught to fear
Of the Longest Eve, Mid-Winter’s Night,
For her Winter was happening just right!
The snow and chill
Were for her not an ill.
There were pegassi awaiting her inside
That from her favored weather preferred to hide.
“Happy Hearthwarming!” they greeted her
As by the fire, they warmed their fur!
Melting ice dripped from feathered wing
As those Weather Ponies wished for Spring!
Hailee’s castle was welcome respite
On the long Hearthwarming Night!
She smiled, “Hearthwarming to you but Solstice is right!
Both happen on the same day
In Winter’s midst! That’s when I play!
Stay you in where it is warm!
I, the Winter’s Princess, will see to this Storm!”

Captain Night Feather's Nightmare Night

View Online

Captain Night Feather glided through the night
Seeking the prey that was just right.
Below him grew the lights of a town
And with a fanged smile he spiraled down.

Lurking in a park's trees
He saw a sight sure to please!
Dressed in costumes absurd
Were young foals in a herd!

He donned his red lined cape of black
To cover his cutie mark and back.
Under costume bat wings his real ones stowed
And his fangs he simply showed.

The vampire pony in vampony disguise
Stepped out to begin to claim his prize.
On Nightmare Night, costume as you!
The best disguise is one that's true!

There were mean pranksters who gave foals a fright
So Night Feather became their guard on this night.
The first prank pony leaped out and got brained!
Into a flask some of his blood got drained!

The foals chanted from house light to light
“Nightmare Night, what a fright! Give us something sweet to bite!
Household stallion or sweet mare
All succumbed to Night Feather's hypnotic stare.

Each for him a small flask filled
With their blood that safely rilled.
It was salty, rather than sweet,
The blood that was Night Feather's treat!

Finally the foals, all to their parties safely seen,
Night Feather spread his wings and quitted the scene.
Keeping foals safe on Nightmare Night
By taking pranker's blood just seemed right!

The Day AFTER Hearthwarming!

View Online

T'was the day AFTER Hearthwarming and all through the town

Many a pony was looking at presents and beginning to frown!

This sweater WON'T DO! It makes me look fat!

You think that's bad, have you seen this HAT?

This scarf is a ghastly joke!

It would make a Changeling choke!

Who would give chocolates to me?

I am allergic, don't you see?

Shops all over Ponyville and other towns too

Threw open their doors to the gift exchange crew!

Through all of the Hearthwarming rush

The shopkeepers were dreading the DAY AFTER crush!

This toy isn't broken too bad is it?

This seam is torn only a bit!

Surely you have something better than this!

Frightened my pet snake and made her Hiss!

Unseen by many a Hearthwarming host

Were those who said, “It's lovely, I like it the most!
