> The Forgotten Sister > by MStardust > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 An alarming vision > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- One foggy saturday morning princess Celestia woke up from a rather strange vision. There was nothing to see but the magical mirror that allows ponys to cross different dimensions. Suddenly, as if a huge gate had opened, hundreds of buglike creatures came flying out of it in a panic. In the background a blurry figure, an alicorn? When Celestia opened her eyes the newly reformed Princess Luna already stood beside her. Her face frozen in shock. "What did she do this time?" "Who?" asked Celestia uncertain who could be meant. "Asari" Luna answered casually "Where is she anyway? Did you banish her through the mirror?" "I have no idea who your talking about, sister." Celestia said stonefaced "But since you know who this pony was, we must prepare everything to prevent this." Luna gave her a perplexed look. "What do you mean, You have no idea? You of all ponys should know who Asari is!" "Well, I don`t!" the ruler answered slightly irrtated "Would you kindly introduce me to her?" "You cant be serious." Luna whispered. When Celestia gave her a dissaproving look she turned angry. "SHE IS OUR SISTER!" "Our what?" Celestia looked at her incredulously. "Our jungest sister!" Luna hissed "She used to be experimenting with creatures she created by her magic! And you used to argue with her for being so disobedient und disloyal! How can you possibly not remember her?" Celestia looked at her in shock. With all of her wisdom she could not possibly guess what this was all about. "Yes." she whispered thoughtful "How could I forget about somepony that important." Luna tried to calm herself. "Well, lets ask her when she arrives here." Celestia got worried. "But the vision didn't look like she was coming in peace!" she said scared "We should prepare for an invasion!" "First of all YOU should prepare for meeting our sister AND find out what the hay it was that happened between the two of you." "Right." As the two princesses took their breakfast, Luna would explain everything she knew. "So her magic was to create animals?" Celestia summarized "But she was bored of making them normal. So she started making hybrids?" "At which point you disapproved. That is why she had a pact with Discord." Luna agreed "The two of you always found something to argue about. Yet, I can not imagine her willingly working against you. No doubt she had her fun, but..." "Still. There must be a reason, she went through the mirror." Celestia magically stired in her soup "And that she made me forget about her. I also don't think I ever read her name in the chronicles." "So there is literally nothing in this world that could remember you of her." Luna said meaningful. "Could she have turned evil by my constant interference?" Celestia said in fear of having another pony go mad because of her own ignorance. "Not Asari." Luna shook her head "She would always laugh at your prohibitions and do it again right under your nose." She took a sip of her tee. "I wonder though... After one of your fights, she would always come to me and ask for advice. How would she calm down without me?" "How old was she when I had to banish you?" Celestia asked. "Oh, in her teenage years. Not that much younger than me." "Well, I should write to Twilight and the element bearers." Celestia determined "Just in case." > Chapter 2 Preparation > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The next day Twilight and her friends arrived at the Central Station of Canterlot. Celestia had written to them that she wanted to get to know them better and that she therefore wanted them to spend the week at the castle. Of course she would never write that her maybe evil little sister was going to invade the city and that she needed the elements to protect it. That would only worry dear Twilight. Meanwhile Luna had used the night to search the whole Canterlot Library for any left information about Asari, but there was nothing to be found. Not even a hint. "Its disturbing how one mare could erase herself like that." she said to Celestia. "If you didn't remember, we would be more than helpless." she answered. "I still don't think that this help is really needed." Luna said slightly bugged "But during my research I found a spell for memory sharing. Of course it only works on memories that I myself posses." "Where is Starswirl when I need him?" Celestia gaspt then bowed down so Lunas blue glowing horn could reach her forehead. "I miss him." Luna whispered, "He always knew a good joke." After Luna had finished sharing her old memories of Asari, Celestia saw things more clearly. The blurry dark alicorn was a tall but skinny dark purple furred mare with black mane and tail. Her cutiemark a ball of darkblue dust which was the same as the magic she used to create. "Okay!" she said more confident than usual, "Whatever that brad has done to make me banish her, I am certain she wont succeed again." "You don't think she went by herself?" Luna interrupted. "Why would she?" Celestia laughed "That filly isn't satisfied when she cant make me furious." "Maybe she has matured by now?" Luna implied. "You've seen the vision!" Celestia said serious "If that is mature, we have a war coming for us!" Confident and a little bit grim Celestia trotted outside to talk to the royal guards. Luna looked after her woried. "What have I done?" she sighed "What has she done..." After Twilight and her friends had been over to dinner, Celestia felt a little more save. She had also ordered tree times as much guards to patrol the throne room, where the mirror stood. Still, she couldn't get any sleep at night. Instead she tried to remember what daytime it was in her vision. But all she could remember was the mirror and that scary view on her youngest sister. Then, in the middle of the night, a guard came galloping to her room. "Your Highness!" he burst into the room, because Celestia had left the door open and lit all the candles. At some point she knew she wasn't going to get any rest anyway. "The mirror has started to glow! We thought we should inform you." "Call for reinforcement and also wake Mrs Sparkle and her friends." she answered almost casually "Is Shining Armor still on his post?" "Yes, Your Highness!" he answered and bowed deep down. "Very well." > Chapter 3 A dangerous reunion > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Carefully taking the Elements of Harmony to the throne room, Celestia looked proudly into the faces of fifty or so guards, the sleepy but worried element bearers and a now very unconvinced Luna. Everything went perfect. Whatever was coming out of this mirror, wouldn't stand a chance. Or so she thought. "What's the matter, Princess Celestia?" Twilight came running to her. She looked even more out of balance than on the day of a test and that should mean something. "The mirror hasn't awoken for ages." she answered meaningful, knowingly skipping the detail about a former student of hers, "We believe that an old enemy from another dimension is soon to return." With this she handed out the Elements of Harmony, desperately ignoring her sisters sighing. Luna was everything than happy about this outcome, but since she didn't know what was going on, she had decided to lie in wait for a chance to intervene. Shortly after everything was coordinated, the guards new their tasks, the elements where in place and Luna had placed herself behind the mirror, where she could watch this without being in the way, the magical mirror started to glow brighter. While everypony steered their eyes on the portal, a dark purple alicorn hidden under a black but fancy looking cloak slowly walked through. "I should have expected a welcoming committee." she grinned and slowly bowed down before Celestia. The princess herself didn't quite understand the situation. "What brings us to this unexpected reunion?" she asked seriously. "All in good time." Asari answered still grinning. Celestia froze in shock, when her horn released a single wave of dark blue magic, not only slinging the guards, but even the element bearers hardly against the next wall, leaving most of them unconscious. The next attack was a laser going directly on Celestia`s forehead, making her cry out and fall unconscious herself. A second later it was Luna's magic imprisoning the hooded mare in a huge bubble. The remaining guards ran towards the bubble to secure it while Asari calmly turned around and removed the hood from her head. She was adult now and she wore a crown and jewelry, but not the one she would wear as a princess of Equestria. "Luna!" she called out in joy, "I'm so happy to see you!" That was more like Asari. Luna almost got carried away and opened the bubble. But she got herself together in the last moment. "What is wrong with you?!" she screamed "Why would you attack your own sister?!" She huffed angrily at her still surprisingly calm sister. "She didn't remember me, did she?" Asari asked almost proudly, "My spell makes her remember! If she wakes up, she will understand the situation and its important that she does." Luna stared at her in surprise. This was exactly the little sister she knew. Drastic but with a good and innocent meaning behind it. She struggled a moment, but eventually opened the bubble. "Bring your fellow soldiers to the medical court!" she ordered the remaining guards, them came closer to Asari. "Care to explain yourself?" she said strictly, but with an inevitable smile on her face. The first thing Asari did was to give her sister a huge hug. "Its all her fault." she mumbled. "I doubt that!" Luna replied "Tell me the whole story!" "I was so angry when Tia banished you!" she shouted "I didn't want to have anything to do with her!" "So you ran away and erased her memory?" Luna asked. "No, I- I started creating a second dimension of my own, where I could have my creations without her watching my every move." "YOU made a second dimension?" Luna asked surprised. "Yeah, well. Discord had told me ho-" In that moment a seemingly endless stream of different creatures came out of the portal. Luna watched in shock as they invaded everything around them. Those with wings flew right out the windows, the others ran almost panic-stricken towards the doors. "L-l-let me explain!" Asari cried out after the first shock was gone, but Luna had already attacked her. Hit by a laser beam she was thrown halfway trough the hall. Luna already prepared for her next shot when somepony else's magic hit her from above, leaving her wounded and unable to stand. "Stop it!" Asari screamed and a teenage alicorn colt flew down towards her. Luna thought she was hallucinating when she first saw her attacker. He had dirty brown fur with darker dots on his flanks and a short mane in the same tone. His cutiemark consisted of three cute little parasprites, but what really took the attention was that his horn, wings and lower legs where those of a changeling. He landed beside Asari and promptly took a pose ready to fight, but Luna didn't have the energy nor the overview to attack them. They just stood there staring at each other until the stream of creatures slowly came to an end. "I told you to wait!" Asari scolded. "There was a panic." the young colt tried to explain himself "If I had kept them in any longer, they would have overrun themselves!" They walked closer to Luna and Asari started healing Luna with her magic. "Destroy the portal." she said after the last hybrid being had found its way through. The room had gotten silent, for all those creatures had run outside and only the unconscious ponys where left behind. No sign of any guard. "What is the meaning of this?" Luna hissed. "As I was going to tell you-" Asari started to explain, but got interrupted by an awoken and seriously angry Celestia. "YOU DISLOYAL LITTLE-!" "Let me explain!" she cried out and walked towards her. "MY OFFICE! NOW!" Celestia hissed. She forcefully walked out of the room, Asari with a sorrowful expression right behind her. The colt wanted to follow them, but Asari shook her head, leaving the two of them alone. Luna, with some effort, stood up and looked into the messed up room. "What just happened?" > Chapter 4 Aunt Luna > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- For a few minutes the throne room was unspeakably quiet. Princess Luna had to gather while looking at the mess that had been produced by the fight and the panicking swarm. More than thirty guards including the element bearers lie down without being able to move, she herself was badly wounded. Everything from just a few minutes ago when her youngest sister had set food in this world the first time since a probably long time ago. In her head just one question. How did Celestia manage all those years? Her gaze fell on this strange looking alicorn colt that had fought by Asaris side not to long ago. He searchingly skulked around the still glowing magical mirror, then - out of nowhere - he cast a spell on it, making it stop glowing. "Hold it!" she demanded "How dare you manipulate the royal property!" He didn't seem to care much about her. Softly knocking against the now closed portal he found that his task was completed and turned around viewing the terrain himself. Luna tried to walk towards him, but stopped from pain just a few steps later. He instead came walking towards her, stopped a few meters away from her and began to cast a healing spell. His magic was different from all she had seen before. Instead of a clear laser beam reaching the object of his attention the poison green magic moved spirally and more like smoke that was slowly dissolving the longer it had to travel. "I must admit. My sisters powers have improved." she said examining him "She surely did a good job on you." He began to giggle. "Actually, I am her son, Sprite." he softly explained "I was born, not mixed together." "Whatever you like to call it." she accepted warily. "Your Highness!" Two pony related hybrids in azure armor came flying through the window. One of them carried another alicorn. A filly without a cutiemark. She looked a lot like Luna when she was still small, but her fur was way darker and just like Sprite she had her very own look. Her wings were those of a bat and so were her ears. She had two cute little fangs peeking out of her mouth. The longer Luna looked at this constellation the less she knew how to deal with it. The filly looked scary on one hoof, but unbearably cute on the other. "My sister Dust Ball." Sprite introduced "Theres three of us, but we made sure little Firefly wont wake up so soon." The filly came running to him and hide between his legs. Luna couldn't avoid smiling as she curiously tilt her head towards her. "Is this aunt Celestia?" she asked innocent. "Suppose not." the princess said "I am Luna." Sprite had turned his attention to the guards. "Has everyone gathered as commanded?" he asked strictly. "The mayors are still counting, but we do believe so, Your Highness." said one of them. They bowed down deeply, awaiting the next command. "Please make sure everyone behaves and stays with the swarm until the Queen gives further directions." he said calmly. The guards left of immediately. "Will you please explain to me, what this is all about?" Luna asked furiously "Are you invading Equestria?!?" "No." he said calmly "We're evacuating Tandria." "Evacuating?" Luna repeated surprised "From what?" "The nature has inexplicably been getting sick up to a point where the farmers could not grow their crops anymore." he explained, "Mother and I tried everything to solve the problem, but failed every time. We had no other choice, but to leave our home before the citizens starved to death." For a moment they just looked at each other worried. "Mother thought she could convince aunt Celestia to leave us the Everfree region." he added "That is if it still exists the way she remembers." "I believe it does." Luna replied thinking deeply about the situation, that Sprite had informed her about "But I suppose my sister seemed rather unwilling to listen." "We can not go back." he stated "That is why I destroyed the portal. If we cant find a home in Equestria, I suppose we would have to travel around for a while." Hearing this Luna breathed delighted. "I knew Asari wasn't evil." she smiled. > Chapter 5 Persuation > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quite some time had passed since Celestia and Asari had left the battlefield that once was the throne room. It already looked like a ceremonial room again, since all the wounded soldiers had been carried to the Canterlot Hospital and somepony even had the heart to pick up the colored glass splinters, that had been produced by the escapists. During that same time Luna and Sprite even arranged a place for the former Tandrian citizens to stay and rest until there is further detail on their future. They were already sitting at the breakfast table, trying to get to know each other further. “Alright, Ill play along!” Luna laughed, still not very convinced, “If you indeed were carried out und born to my sister, why do you look so differently? Were is your father? And most importantly, why are you both alicorns?” “Our father, the king, was a very powerfull unicorn from this world.” Sprite explained calm while magically keeping his sister away from the crystal vases all around the room, “With the influence of both of their magic, we sort of became like this. Unfortunately, he died during the first experiment in cleaning the nature. Vines everywhere! It was terrible.” “You were born alicorn, weren’t you?” she asked, “Until now this was not considered possible. Not even with Asaris influence.” Sprite wanted to answer, but stopped surprised by a sudden and inexplicably fast sunset. “Now, they will soon present their results.” Luna figured. Indeed, the sisters entered the room just a minute later. They looked everything, but happy. Celestia had a tired and apathetic expression, while Asari was trotting behind her like she just witnessed the insolence of her lifetime. Instinctively, Sprite magically grabbed Dust Ball, to get her out of the danger zone. “Now, did you finally figure out, how to behave around each other?” Luna asked strictly. But they would both just silently sit down on opposite chairs, Asari softly patting both her children on the way. “I trust, Firefly is in good hooves?” she asked, trying her best, not to sound angry. “She’s with the royal advisor and hopefully still asleep.” the prince explained, then turned to Luna, “Our youngest sister. She’s still a baby.” “Another child?” Luna cried surprised, “My, my! You must have had an enlightening love live, dear sister.” “Well-“ the queen got a little red around her nose, “They are blessings. Each one of them!” Celestia led out a single, but bloodcurdling growl. “We are only talking about nineteen towns, each more or less two thousand citizens.” Asari tried to calm her, “This simply has to be possible somehow.” “Its not the how” the ruler answered frustrated, “Its the why! Why would I be so generous with you? After everything you did-“ “Celestia!” Luna intervened furiously, “This is not about the two of you, but the faith of a whole country! Get over your royal pride for once and just help her out!” “Look, I’m sorry I was difficult as a teenager, but we’re both adults now.” Asari said, “Cant we just forget what happened a millennium ago and concentrate on the now?” “The now is not better!” Celestia argued, “The first thing you did, when entering my court was to knock me out!” “Why did you loose your memory now anyway?” Luna asked. “When I went through the mirror, we both new the empire couldn’t stand, loosing another princess so shortly after.” Asari explained. “So since we both agreed, that we never wanted to see the other again, I would erase her from this world and she promised to never come back.” Celestia “So that whole thing was your fault to begin with?” Luna figured. “Sort of.” “Then be an adult and fix your misbehavior, by allowing them to stay!” she demanded. Celestia led out a deep sigh. She knew exactly what was going to happen and there was no use fighting it. “Tell your citizens to set camp at the food of the mountain.” she said without emotion, “We will negotiate over the terms of their integration, and I MEAN integration, during the next days.” Asari gave her a soft and rewarding smile. “Thank you!”
