> Sungaged > by Summer Dancer > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Proposal > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow Dash glided down the halls of the Friendship castle with a new Daring Do book in her hooves. “Twilight! You in here? Twiliiight!” After a few minutes of searching, Rainbow’s ears perked up at the sound of voices coming from one of the rooms. With an excited grin, the blue pegasus landed on the polished floor before pushing the door open. “Hey, Twilight, guess what I…” She stopped short when she saw Sunburst kneeling down in front of Spike. “You’re more than I could ever want in life,” he smiled, holding out a silver ring with a bright purple gem. “Will...will you marry me?” Spike’s green eyes widened, with a few tears gathering at the corners. “Sunburst, I...I don’t know what to say!” Sunburst looked bashful. “Say yes?” Spike clasped his claws together in delight. “You bet!” Rainbow Dash’s pupils shrunk into pinpricks. Without a word, she retracted backwards and silently closed the door on her way out. “See?” Spike quipped as Sunburst rose to his hooves. “That wasn’t so bad!” “W-Was that okay?” Sunburst asked, fiddling with the ring nervously. “Starlight might think it would be...I don’t know...a-a little bit cliched?” Spike shrugged. “I think she’ll be too surprised to care. If she loves you...which I’m pretty sure she does...then it would matter to her, right?” He nudged Sunburst with a grin. “You’ll do great!” Sunburst was silent. Scuffing his hoof along the floor, he looked at Spike, his eyes tinted with uncertainty. “What if she says...no?” Spike looked him right in the eye. “You love her, don’t you?” Sunburst bobbed his head. “More than anypony! Except maybe Sunset, but--” “And you’d still love her, even if she says no?” “...Of course. Of course I would.” Spike placed a reassuring claw on his shoulder. “Then you’ll be fine.” “Sunburst!” a voice called out. The two turned to see Starlight standing in the doorway. “‘We’re gonna be late for our picnic is somepony doesn’t hurry up~!” she sang as she went into the hallway. “C-Coming!” Sunburst squeaked out. The stallion started to tremble, beads of sweat rolling down his face. “Oh...oh ponyfeathers!” Spike’s eyes widened. “Sunburst, calm down!” “It’s happening Spike, it’s happening!” “Sunburst, breathe!” “Oh...oh goodness, I feel faint! I’m gonna...I’m gonna--!” Spike gave Sunburst a quick slap in the face before gripping him by the cloak, his green eyes full of ferocity. “Snap out of it!” Sunburst stopped short and blinked twice. He looked at Spike in shocked confusion. “Did you just slap me?” Spike released him, now looking apologetic. “I was calming you down!” “...Why would that calm me down!?” “Sunburst!” Starlight yelled from down the hall. “Our food’s going to get cold!” Sunburst swallowed hard as Spike gave him a silent thumbs up. The young unicorn took another deep breath and left the room. As Spike followed him out, Twilight came from the opposite direction with a questioning smile. “Where are they going at this hour?” “On a picnic,” Spike said casually. “...Really?” Twilight shifted her confused gaze to Sunburst’s and Starlight’s retreating silhouettes. “Sunburst looked awful nervous to be going to a picnic...even more than usual!” Spike snorted, crossing his arms.. “He should be nervous. He’s proposing.” A moment of silence passed, and Spike’s claws immediately went to his mouth. His eyes slowly trailed up to Twilight, who stood frozen. “You picked a nice spot, Sunburst,” Starlight commented as she pushed aside her empty plate. The two of them ate on top of a small hill, surrounded by wide open spaces. The the purple picnic blanket beneath them was soft and comfortable, and the daisy sandwiches were nothing short of delicious. The sun began to set, painting the sky a beautiful mix of red, pink, and golden yellow. Starlight promptly moved on to dessert, pulling her chocolate cupcake closer. “You’re really coming out of your shell,” she added. Her eyes glittered in the fading light as she smiled. “You know that?” Sunburst blushed as his gaze fell onto the picnic blanket. “W-Well I can’t take all the credit,” he stammered. “I never would’ve left my house if it weren’t for you.” His eyes lifted. “In fact, I...I wouldn’t even be the pony I am today if it weren’t for you.” Starlight took a bite out of her cupcake before holding a hoof against her mouth as she chuckled. “Well, don’t forget about Princess Flurry,” she said after swallowing. Sunburst’s gaze dropped again as he played with the end on his cloak. “Starlight, you make me feel better than I am. I deeply admire the mare you’ve become...and I love...everything about you. I...love you, Starlight. And...and I want to spend the rest of my life with you--if you'd be willing." Starlight regarded him strangely, her cheeks covered with cupcake crumbs. “Sunburst, what--” A train whistle pierced in the distance, followed by a hardy “ALLLL ABOOOARD!” Starlight’s mouth dropped when she looked down the hill. “The train?” She looked back and forth between the Friendship Express and Sunburst, her eyes widening. “Wait a minute,” she said, looking around them, her ponytail whipping from side to side. “This is…” She froze, her features flooding with realization. “This is where--!” Sunburst took Starlight by the hoof, and smiled gently. “Starlight Glimmer...will you marry me?” Starlight’s other hoof flew to her mouth. Tears welled up in her eyes, despite her attempts to blink them away. Before Sunburst could voice his concern, she lunged forward and embraced him tightly. “Yes,” she laughed. She sniffed briefly and buried her face into his shoulder. “Yes,” she repeated in a soft whisper. Sunburst released a breath he didn’t know he was holding and held Starlight close with a tearful grin. They slowly pulled apart and stared at each other as the train whistle sounded a second time. A slow smirk formed on Starlight’s face as she leaned in. “Hmm...I wonder where we left off last time?” Before Sunburst could even think of a reply, her lips planted on his, sending shock waves through his brain. Starlight gently pulled him close and made a soft noise at the back of her throat as she kissed him. As the final whistle sounded, Starlight pulled back and opened her eyes. Sunburst’s eyes were crossed, and his coat was beet red. A strangled sound escaped his lips as he fell limp in Starlight’s hooves with a goofy smile plastered on his face. “Sunburst!?” Starlight yelled out as her fiance lost consciousness. She set him down on the picnic blanket and shook him vigorously. “Sunburst, wake up!” “Married!?” Sunset exclaimed. She had come jumping through the portal as soon as Twilight wrote her the news. “Isn’t it great!” Twilight trilled, clopping her hooves together in delight. Spike looked up at her, his arms crossed. “You really didn’t have to call her over. Sunburst wanted it to be a surprise!” “That’s kind of on you,” Sunset pointed out awkwardly. She turned to Twilight before Spike could defend himself. “It’s great yes, but...dating Starlight? Okay, I get it. Those two are obviously fond of each other. But now he’s marrying her?” Twilight’s eager grin slowly faded. “What...What’s wrong, Sunset? You don’t approve?” Sunset’s head snapped up. “W-Well, no, o-of course! Of course I approve.” She gave a weak smile and ran a hoof along the floor. “It’s just that...gosh, I missed so much of his life, and now my baby brother’s going to be somepony else’s husband…” “And Starlight’s going to be a wife,” Twilight sighed happily, bringing a hoof to her chest. Spike grinned, nodding. Sunset’s eyes turned downcast. “Well...at least now he’ll have somepony to keep him company while I’m...away,” she admitted. “I hope he’ll have enough room in his house for the two of them." Twilight’s eyes widened. “Wait a minute...wait, you’re right!” She frowned worriedly as Spike cocked his head to the side. “About what?” Twilight’s hoof smushed against her cheek. “I-If Starlight marries Sunburst, she wouldn’t exactly be living with us anymore. She’d be...living with Sunburst.” Tears started to collect in her eyes. “She’ll...she’ll be...leaving the nest!” Spike placed a claw on her shoulder. “Twilight, Starlight’s still gonna be your student! She goes back and forth between Ponyville and the Crystal Empire all the time!” “I know!” Twilight sniffled, grabbing him and clutching him close to her chest. “It’s just...oh Spike, our little girl is growing up!” “She’s older than us!” Spike grunted. Sunset Shimmer joined in on the hug and squeezed them both tightly. “Sometimes I wish he would stay small and cute forever,” she choked. “I knoooow!” Twilight sobbed. Spike sighed loudly as the two mares squished him. “So…” Sunset sniffled, glancing over at Twilight. “What is this? Are we...in-laws now?” Twilight paused, her eyes glittering with tears. Her mouth wobbled as she nodded. “I’m okay with that,” she squeaked softly. Spike finally wriggled his way out of their iron grip and landed on the floor. “Come on you guys! This is supposed to be a good thing! You two should be happy for them!” The two mares looked at Spike in surprise and quickly collected themselves. “R-Right,” Twilight said, clearing her throat. “I-I suppose we should...start working on invitations?” Sunset sighed and sat down on her haunches while Spike grinned. “There you go! Let’s see, there’s all of us…” “Trixie,” Twilight chuckled, rolling her eyes. “Their parents…” Spike continued. Sunset’s mouth went dry. “Shining, Cadence and Flurry would want to come too,” Twilight added thoughtfully. “And since they’re coming, Princess Luna and Princess Celestia would want to attend as well!” Sunset’s eyes almost bulged out of her head. Before her mind could even form a coherent sentence, a frantic voice echoed the Castle halls. “SOMEPONY HELP!” Twilight gasped and bolted out of the library with Spike following immediately after. Sunset briefly shook her head and quickly galloped after Spike. They followed Twilight through the Castle until they reached near the main hall. Starlight Glimmer stood there with Sunburst draped across her back. “Twilight, I need--!” Her eyes locked with Sunset’s. “...Oh boy.” Spike walked up to Sunburst’s limp body and frowned. “I guess she said no, huh?” > The Wedding > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Sunburst! Can you hear me?” Sunset yelled as she gently slapped Sunburst’s cheeks. The group crowded around Twilight’s bed where Sunburst lay. “I’m not even that good of a kisser,” Starlight said to Twilight, shaking her head. Spike jumped up on the bed next to Sunburst’s head. “Does he need mouth to mouth?” he said worriedly. Twilight leaned over Sunburst’s body, her forehead creasing in deep thought. “I’m experienced in the field of cardiopulmonary resuscitation,” she said, tilting Sunburst’s chin towards her. “Maybe I could--” Starlight promptly smacked Twilight’s hoof. “Excuse me,” she said dryly. “Marefriend, fiance, right here in front of you? Hello!” A weak groan emanated from below them. “What...what happened?” The group looked down at Sunburst, who was wincing and rubbing his head gently. A collective sighs of relief filled the room as Sunset threw herself on top of him. “Thank goodness you’re alright!” Sunburst yelped his sister’s name, but was muffled by the attack hug. “I was worried sick!” Starlight sat beside her fiance on the bed sheets. “Sunburst,” she said sternly, cracking a smile. “I know you loved our kiss, but...how are you going to handle it when we…” She trailed off, glancing at Sunset. Sunburst gently unlatched himself from the crushing hug, and glanced at Starlight. “When we what?” Starlight tensed and glanced about awkwardly. “Well...you know…” Sunburst blinked at her. “....Nevermind.” Sunburst surveyed the room and grinned, looking slightly embarrassed. “I’m terribly sorry if I caused you any trouble…it’s just that…” He looked at Starlight and blushed. “Well, that was my first kiss.” Starlight gave a lopsided smile. “Mine too.” They stared at each other, somehow looking both awkward and passionate at the same time. This caused fresh tears to well up in Twilight’s eyes. “Oh, Starlight!” she wailed, leaping forward. Sunburst gave a sharp yell as Twilight landed on top of him. “Promise me, Sunburst!” she cried, grabbing his face and forcing his cheeks together. “Promise me you’ll be good to her!” “You huv my wurd!” Starlight stared at her mentor. “Twilight, are...are you crying?” Twilight’s hooves slipped from Sunburst’s face as her cheeks turned red. “I...I uh…” She fidgeted, before offering up a grin. “Heh. Well, you know how emotional I get when it comes to weddings!” Starlight paused before her face contorted with guilt. “Oh, I’m sorry Twilight, I forgot that--” “No no, it’s fine.” Twilight slipped off the bed, and faced them all. “Well since you’re the Crystaller, Sunburst, I’m sure Princess Cadence wouldn’t mind letting you have your wedding at the Crystal Empire. I could ask if you want!” Starlight and Sunburst both gaped at her. “You would do that?” said Sunburst. “Of course. In fact, Cadence and Shining would both insist upon it if I didn’t! You two are very close friends of mine, and I’d do anything to make this the best wedding possible...and that’s exactly what I plan to do!” She turned and started out the door. “C’mon, Spike. We have a list to make.” Spike quickly jumped off the bed and scampered after her. As he joined her out in the hallway, he looked up at her skeptically. “You’re not that emotional at weddings! Sentimental, sure, but--” “See if we can get the Cakes to cook up the desserts, Spike,” Twilight said, keeping her eyes locked forward. Spike huffed as he pulled out a parchment and quill. “Fine.” He scribbled for a few seconds before glancing back up at Twilight. “I’m gonna miss her too, you know.” Twilight finally looked down at Spike. “This is supposed to be her day, Spike. It’s her life, and I stand behind anything she chooses to do. She’s come so far. I really am happy for her, Spike. And I know she'll be happy with Sunburst. I want nothing but the best for her wedding, and that’s exactly what I intend to give her.” Sunburst walked in between Sunset and Starlight in the opposite direction of the hall near the throne room. “Have you considered your parents?” Sunburst asked Starlight. “Do you know where they might be?” Starlight thought for a moment before shaking her head with a smirk. “Probably on the front porch in their rocking chairs. Not exactly the ponies I’d want at my wedding. They just...never cared about my problems.” Her eyes brightened. “But I know who does care about all my problems. Maybe Twilight could walk me down the aisle!” “I’m sure she’d love that,” Sunset agreed, keeping an eye on her brother’s footing. “But I can’t wait to see your parents again,” Starlight said. “They were always so nice to me.” Sunset’s face fell, and she turned her head silently. This didn’t go unnoticed by Sunburst. “Hey, Starlight? Do you mind giving us a few moments?” Starlight looked at Sunset and blanched. “O-Oh. Oh. Yeah, of course! I’ll just a….” She stood, glancing around awkwardly. “I’ll go see what Twilight and Spike need!” She threw Sunburst a smile that said I'm so glad I'm marrying you before trotting off. Sunburst sighed happily before leading Sunset to the throne room. “Here, let’s have a sit.” Sunset cautiously walked in between the thrones, eyeing the cutie mark symbols warily. “Aren’t these for Twilight and her friends? Will something happen if we sat on them?" “Nothing will happen,” Sunburst replied, approaching Applejack’s throne. “I’ve seen the girls switch seats all the time. It’s perfectly safe.” His older sister nodded as she neared Pinkie Pie’s throne. The two siblings sat down simultaneously. Bzzzzzzt! Bzzzzzzt! The two unicorns cried out as they instantly flew off the thrones with smoke trailing behind them. Sunset grunted as she landed on her stomach. Slowly, she looked back at her tail, which was slightly singed. “Safe for non-outsiders,” she grumbled. Sunburst furiously blew out the last bit of flame that had caught on his tail and flashed her a sheepish grin. “Uh...why don’t we just, uh...sit here instead?” He turned around and faced his sister. “So...I understand you’re quite reluctant to face our parents again.” Sunset remained on her stomach and pawed at the floor. “How could you tell,” she said dryly. “Sunset, you’re their daughter. They love you, no matter what! They were worried sick when you left!” “I know…” Her gaze turned downcast. “I know. But, you see, Sunburst…” she sighed heavily. “That’s not all I kind of want to talk to you about.” “I’m all ears.” Sunset slowly sat up, her gaze still kept to the floor. “I...think it’s time you know what happened when I was under Celestia’s wing.” Half an hour later... “...and that’s how we won the Friendship Games,” Sunset finished. “...sort of.” Sunburst could only stare at her, his spectcles sliding down his nose. After a long pause, he finally said, “Is there really another world on the other side of that mirror?” Sunset blinked before bursting out laughing. “I knew you hadn’t changed a bit!” she sighed and shook her head. “All that time worrying and being afraid of what you might think of me…” Sunburst reached over and touched her shoulder. “I think,” he said resolutely. “That you’re the most wonderful sister anypony could ever ask for. You rose up from your past and chose to do what was right even when you doubted yourself. You’re...an inspiration.” Sunset blushed a deep red. “Sunburst, I don’t think I--” “And Nopony else will ever think differently of you,” he said firmly, holding on to her hooves. “Especially our parents and Princess Celestia.” Sunset looked into Sunburst’s eyes with a small smile. “Do you really think so?” she whispered. Sunset nodded. “But if you really don’t want to see them, it's okay. We don’t have to invite--” “No,” Sunset said firmly, her eyes steeled. “No. Our parents need to see their child get married. And...I can’t avoid Princess Celestia forever. I’m not hiding anymore.” She smiled brightly. “You couldn't have gotten married at a better time. I’ll attend your wedding...on one condition.” Sunburst’s ears perked up. “Oh? What would that be?” Sunset poked him in the chest. “I get to be your Best Mare.” Her younger brother chuckled. “I wouldn’t have it any other way.” Suddenly, Pinkie Pie appeared behind Sunset Shimmer and sniffed the air. “Somepony’s been sitting in my chair,” she said, her eyes narrowed in suspision. “GAAAH!” Sunset yelped, scrambling backward. Sunburst looked up to see Applejack, Fluttershy, Rarity, and a nervous looking Rainbow Dash approach the throne room. He and Sunset quickly rose to their hooves. “W-We were just, uh…” “Sorry for uh...barging in like this,” Applejack said awkwardly, stealing a glance at Fluttershy and Rarity. “...Yes,” Rarity said, her snout scrunching up as if she smelled something unpleasant. Her gaze fell on Sunset and she gave a polite nod. “Hello, Sunset Shimmer.” “Hi.” A long pause followed before Rainbow cleared her throat. “So, uh...I heard the big news.” Sunburst looked surprised. “Already? Huh. I guess news travels fast in Ponyville.” The girls shared a shocked glance before staring at Sunburst. “You...You really are getting married?” Fluttershy questioned. “Yes indeed!” Sunburst said happily. Rainbow Dash muttered something under her breath that sounded something like “Told you”. “And…” Applejack said cautiously. “Starlight doesn’t...mind?” Sunburst laughed. “Well I certainly hope not!” Quiet gasps filled the room. Without warning, Rarity marched forward and gave Sunburst a slap, knocing him backwards. “Filthy two-timer! Proposing to Spike like that!" Sunset threw up inside the waste basket. Starlight stood behind her, magically keeping Sunset’s mane aloft in her wedding dress. “You know, I kind of thought this would be the other way around,” she admitted, rubbing Sunset’s back. The firey maned unicorn wore a bright yellow dress, her mane swept up in a single braid. She lifted her head up and sighed. “My parents are coming,” she panted. “And...and on top of that, Princess Celestia is gonna...gonna…” Her face paled. Starlight winced and turned her head while Sunset got sick a fifth time. Rarity ran into the room, and her eyes grew wide with panic. Like the other bridesmaids and two maids of honor, she wore a deep purple dress with a single lilac flower in her mane. “Sunset? Sunset, what’s wrong!? And what are you doing over here, you’re supposed to be with Sunburst!” “Pre-wedding jitters,” Starlight chuckled. “She came over to see how I was, and then…” “M’fine,” Sunset mumbled. Rarity sighed and walked up to Starlight to examine her mane. “Hmmm...just one more pin…” She levitated a hairpin and stuck it into Starlight’s swept up hairdo, making her wince. “Ouuuch! Rarity--” “Ah bup bup! Beauty is pain, Starlight! Especially on one’s wedding day. Now turn around, let me get a good look at you!” Rarity’s aura took hold of Sunset’s braid as Starlight stepped back and twirled around once. It was one of the most simplest dresses Rarity had made, next to Twilight’s birthday dress. Starlight didn’t want puffy white sleeves, or a wedding veil, and her train barely surpassed her own tail. It was just a little white dress with a silver trim. The only thing Rarity could go to town on was her mane, which also had little pearls in it. Though the plainness of her dress was a little disappointing, Rarity knew that Starlight was a mare that appreciated simplicity, and respected her wishes. She made it work, regardless. “You look absolutely stunning,” Rarity smiled as Sunset threw up again. “Less is more, I suppose. Don’t you agree, Sunset Shimmer?” “Uggghh…” The white unicorn looked down at Sunset and pursed her lips. “Ooo, dear. We can’t have you getting sick like this! You’re Sunburst’s best mare!” “Mmm. Almost done. C-Can you take me to my brother after….after--bluuugh!” Rarity winced involuntarily. “Of course, darling.” “Er...I think I’m gonna try to find Twilight,” Starlight said, inching her way out of the room. “Maybe she...has something than can help.” “Alright, my sweet,” Rarity said, gritting her teeth as Sunset heaved. “I shall have her ready before the wedding starts….I hope.” Starlight stepped out into the hall and sighed. Though the Crystal Empire was a joy to visit again, she didn't have the time to enjoy it. She had been up since five in the morning getting herself and her bridesmaids ready. Even though she did want to get married, the urge to take a long nap was much, much greater. If this thing was happening, it needed to happen soon. She went into the room next door, where she found Rainbow Dash attempting to fix her mane while Pinkie Pie sprayed Fluttershy with perfume. Twilight, maid of honor number one, came up from behind her, beaming. Her eyes were bloodshot and her mane was terribly frazzled. Her lilac flower clung to the end of her mane in a tangled knot. Starlight’s pupils shrunk. “Twilight, what--” “There you are! You look beautiful! Are you excited? Or maybe a little nervous? Because if you are, there’s a book I brought along to help deal with--” Starlight cut her off with a silencing hoof. “Sunset’s throwing up next door.” Twilight gasped. “Maybe she’d like some herbal tea?” Fluttershy asked, trotting to them.“I think I remember where the kitchen is. That should calm her stomach.” “That would help a lot. Thank you, Fluttershy,” Twilight sighed. The pegasus bobbed her head before turning to Starlight. She touched her shoulder, her teal eyes shining with happiness and pride. “You really do look beautiful, Starlight.” Starlight returned the smile, and her posture straightened up. “Thank you, Fluttershy.” As the yellow pegasus flew off, Starlight continued. “Besides, there’s really nothing to be nervous about. Sunburst and I don’t really have a lot of friends, so...aside from the Princesses, it’ll be a small, quiet, and short wedding.” Twilight bit the inside of her cheek. “Welll…” Starlight’s features slowly contorted as the silence drew longer. “Right, Twilight?” The mare in question nervously tapped her hooves together. “Well, I...sent invitations to your friends from your old village…then they told the rest of the villagers, and turns out they wanted to come too...and since it’s actually the first wedding at the Crystal Empire for a thousand years, the whole Empire is also attending..a-along with most citizens of Ponyville…” Starlight’s mouth dropped. “But other than that, it’s pretty small!” “Twilight!” “I’m sorry!” Twilight squeaked, clutching a clipboard and quill close to her chest. “I’d stop this if I could! But these ponies just keep coming...and...coming and...coming!” Starlight looked wary as Twilight’s left eye twitched. “Not one of those pluses RSVP’d. Not. A single. One!” She shoved her notes in Starlight’s face.”I’ve been rearranging and reorganizing all of the seating arrangements of both the wedding and the wedding reception all day. And just when I think I have everything perfect, more ponies announce that they’re coming to the wedding! It’s horrible!” She threw up her hooves and tossed the clipboard, causing most of her notes to scatter about. “Horrible!” Starlight offered a small smile and outstretched her hooves. “All right. Come here.” Twilight shuffled forward and nearly collapsed into Starlight’s embrace, on the brink of tears. Starlight rubbed Twilight’s back in comfort at the Princess twitched in her hooves. “It’s alright,” she cooed gently. “It’s okay…” “I think Twilight’s officially cracked,” Rainbow Dash said, flying up to her side. "She's worked herself to the bone this past week!" Starlight glanced down at Twilight before looking to Rainbow Dash. “I’ll try and calm her down. Why don’t you make sure everything else is ready? And maybe check up on Applejack with the main course?” Rainbow gave a firm nod and saluted. “On it!” “A-And careful of that dress!” Starlight shouted after her as she zipped off. “And I’ll handle all of the seating arrangements!” Pinkie declared, gathering up the last of Twilight’s notes. Starlight’s eyes flickered with uncertainty. “Are you sure, Pinkie? The Wedding starts in half an hour and--” “Psssh,” said Pinkie, booping her firmly on the nose. She grinned, cocking one eyebrow. “Ye hath little faith. Don’t you worry. Pinkie Pie’s got it covered!” She glanced down and gave her two quick but reassuring pats on the shoulder. “Cheer up, Twi!” Twilight could only stare blankly ahead, shaking and shivering. “Mmm…” Starlight continued to pat Twilight’s back as Pinkie bounced off. “Looks like both of my in-laws are more nervous than me,” she chuckled. “Don’t worry, Twilight. Nothing bad is going to happen at this wedding.” Just then, Discord appeared above them in a snazzy green suit. He grinned, taking off his top hat as he bowed low. “Afternoon, ladies.” Twilight twitched harder. Spike stepped back and grinned. “Lookin’ good!” “Thanks!” Sunburst replied, adjusting his bowtie. Spike glanced away from his reflection. “O-Oh, yeah! You too, Sunburst!” The groom rolled his eyes and ran a hoof over his tux. He walked up next to Spike and let out a long breath. “Well…” he looked down at the young dragon with a nervous smile. “This is it, huh?” “You’re gonna do great,” Spike encouraged with a wink. “You look so handsome,” Sunset smiled from the bright blue couch nearby. Sunburst grinned and crossed over to his sister. “How are you feeling?” Sunset gave a small chuckle and held up a crystal mug between her hooves. “Much better now. Fluttershy made me some tea.” “Are you sure you want to go through with the wedding? I hate seeing you get sick like that and--" Sunset shook her head. “No. I’m sure. No matter what, I’m going to be by your side when you marry that mare. I just let the nerves get to me for a second. I am going to have to face them sooner or later. It might as well be sooner.” She looked over Sunburst’s tuxedo and gently straightened the blue carnation pinned to it with her magic. "So. How's it feel marrying the girl of your dreams?" Sunburst looked behind her with a distant looking smile. "It's...well..." He sighed dreamily. "She's better than any dream girl." He met his sister's eyes. "She's real." Just then, a pony burst inside the room with a unique flair. “What’s taking so long? The wedding’s about to start and The Great and Powerful Trixie has no desire to wait any longer in these sho--” Trixie stopped mid sentence as her eyes latched onto Sunburst’s backside. “Oh...Oh, excuse me.” She grinned, leaning casually against the door. “I forgot to knock.” Trixie giggled briefly. “Silly me.” Sunburst looked over his shoulder. “Oh, that’s alright! We were just about to head out.” He faced his sister and held out a hoof. “Ready?” Sunset set aside her mug and took Sunburst’s hoof before standing up. “Ready.” Spike double checked to see if his tie was on straight before bolting out the door. “I’ll lead the way!” he called out. Sunburst followed him, taking deep breaths. Trixie’s gaze lowered as Sunburst trotted past and bit her lip. “Starlight’s a lucky mare,” she hummed, watching him go. “Yeah,” Sunset said dryly, coming up behind her with a glare. “But you might not be so lucky if you don’t fix those eyes of yours.” Trixie squeaked and quickly galloped off. > The Reception > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Here comes the bride! Big fat and wide!” Apple Bloom sang as she skipped. “Here comes the broom! Skinny as a broom!” Sweetie Belle chimed. “Here comes the usher,” Scootaloo finished. “The old toilet flusheeeeerrr!” “Hey!” Pinkie said, her mouth curving downward. “I’m not that old!” They stood near the aisle as several wedding guests began to take to their seats. Sunburst stood at the altar in his tux with a nervous yet excited smile. Sunset and Trixie stood at his left along with Spike, who held a pillow and the two rings. “It’s just an old saying, Pinkie,” Apple Bloom said, setting down her flower basket. “We didn’t mean to offend.” Pinkie Pie’s demeanor changed in an instant. “Oh...well, I knew that!” She giggle-snorted. “But you girls might wanna take your places soon. The wedding’s about to start!” “But we can’t start without a Bride to walk in front of,” Scootaloo said. “We haven’t seen Starlight since this morning,” Sweetie Belle added. “Hmm. Well, you just let me worry about Starlight. Keep an eye out for the Princesses, they’re due to be here any minute!” The three youngsters saluted. “Yes ma’am!” they chorused before scurrying off. “Applejack! Applejack, how’s the buffet going?” The farm mare walked by her with a large platter of cucumber sandwiches balanced on her back. “Just about done! And the Wedding Cake’s good to go!” “Excellent!” Pinkie heard a faint zooming sound before Rainbow Dash dropped in beside her. “I had the Guards close the doors so nopony else gets in,” she grinned. “Everypony else is just gonna have to wait until the reception.” “Great! That’ll be a load off of Twilight’s shoulders.” A velvety voice burst into song upon her arrival, making Rainbow Dash yelp. “PINKIE~” Rarity sang, trotting up to them. “Everypony’s almost to their seats and Fluttershy’s bird choir is ready to perform!” Rainbow winced as she rubbed a hoof in her ear. “We’re not that far away, Rarity,” she muttered. “This is perfect!” Pinkie exclaimed, checking something off on her clipboard. “Everything’s in place. I think now’s the the time to get this Wedding started!” Rainbow Dash scratched her head. “I dunno...I have the feeling we’re forgetting something....” ***** At the altar, Trixie glanced over at Sunburst. When Sunburst eventually made eye contact, she smirked a little and winked. Sunburst visibly winced. He leaned toward Sunset and spoke through his teeth. “She...scares me…” Sunset glanced over at Trixie and opened her mouth, but stopped herself. In the midst of the wedding crowd, two ponies carefully made their way through the crowd. With her breath hitched, her hoof pawed at Sunburst’s shoulder. A middle-aged mare and stallion slowly made their way down the aisle in search of their seats. The stallion carried a large bouquet with one hoof while the mare carried a small blue box tied with a red ribbon. Sunburst and Sunset shared an excited glance before watching their parents approach the front row. They gazed at Sunset, their eyes filled with amazement and love. They gave her tearful grins as they sat in their seats. Sunset matched their grins and gave a small, timid wave. Her mother blew a small kiss in her direction and waved back while her father continued to stare at her with a faint smile on his face. Sunset’s heart swelled. I promised myself I wouldn't cry today... ****** “Are you okay now?” Starlight said with a smile as Twilight finished her glass of water. After one last gulp, Twilight closed her eyes and nodded. She took a few even breaths and levitated her empty glass onto a nearby table. “I’m sorry,” she chuckled. “About all this.” Starlight snorted. “Twilight, you’re fine! It’s stressful to be the wedding organizer, I get it! There’s nothing to worry about. You’re a wonder, Twilight. As always.” Twilight gazed at Starlight and smiled softly. “You’re more of a wonder than me.” She straightened Starlight’s bracelet with her hoof and held onto it with tears in her eyes. “I’m so proud of you, Starlight,” she whispered. Starlight’s eyes started to mist and quickly wrapped Twilight in a hug. Twilight hugged her tightly with tears running down her face. “So proud.” “And as are we,” a voice said. Starlight jumped a little while Twilight lifted her head. “Princess Celestia!” she exclaimed happily. “Princess Luna!” She released Starlight and bowed low. “I’m so glad you could come!” Starlight turned around and stared with wide eyes as the two Royal Sisters strode up to them in all their glory. Starlight had seen the Princesses quite a few times before, but to see them up close at her own wedding was daunting. With a gulp, she followed Twilight’s lead and dipped down to the floor. “It’s an honor, your majesties.” A warm chuckle answered her. “Rise, my dear. It’s your special day.” Starlight lifted her head and smiled up at the Princess. Luna quirked an eyebrow and lifted Twilight’s chin. “And what have we told you about bowing, Princess Twilight?” she chastised playfully, giving her a wink. Twilight quickly straightened up, her cheeks tinted pink. “Sorry...force of habit.” Celestia glanced at Twilight and lifted her eyebrows. Twilight gave a small nod, causing Celestia to smile. “I’m very much looking forward to this wedding…” “PRINCESEEEEEES!!!” Applebloom hollered as she galloped past the group. “There you are!” Rainbow Dash yelled out, flying over to them. Seeing the Royal Sisters, she stopped abruptly and bowed her head. “Your highnesses.” After receiving nods from the Princesses, Rainbow dropped down next to Twilight. “What’s the hold up, egghead? We need to get a move on!” Ponies who were passing by gasped quietly and murmured to each other. “She just called Princess Twilight an Egghead!” whispered one. “Can she do that?” said the other. “We’re coming, Rainbow,” Twilight told her. “Is everything else ready?” “Everything but the Bride...and Father Matripony. He’s kinda...gone.” “...Gone?” Twilight repeated, eyes wide. “What do you mean he’s gone?” Rainbow Dash gave a helpless shrug. “He never showed up.” “But he RSVP’d!” Twilight turned to Starlight. “Didn’t he?” “He did!” “Well, that’s quite alright,” Princess Celestia said. “I could marry you if you’d like.” Rainbow smiled sheepishly. “Actually, somepony already volunteered for that.” Twilight stared at her friend. “...Who?” ****** “If you want my honest opinion,” Discord said to a guest next to him. “I’d give the marriage at least five months.” “Your microphone's on, you dumb dumb,” Trixie muttered. The Draconequus blinked and looked up at the sea of faces staring back at him. “Oh.” Tapping his mic twice, he twirled up in the air and flashed the wedding guests with a smile. “Welcome, mares and gentlecolts, to the most bedazzling wedding of the century!” He winked. “I hope you enjoyed my little comedic routine at the beginning there.” At the end of the aisle, Twilight stood next to Starlight, seething. “Discoooord!” she said through clenched teeth. Sweetie Belle looked over her shoulder. “Starlight!” The CMC scrambled over to their places and readied their baskets. Heads turned, followed by oohs and ahhs at Starlight in her dress. Starlight Glimmer blushed as everypony rose to their hooves. Fluttershy waved her conductor’s wand between her teeth, and her bird choir started to sing. Starlight looked ahead, catching another pair of eyes. Sunburst gazed at her with a slacked jaw. She immediately snorted at his awe-struck expression. He was such a dork. A wonderful, lovable dork. Side by side, Starlight and Twilight started walking, smiling back at everypony they passed. This isn’t so bad, Starlight thought. It’s not as small as I wanted, but this is decent… As they passed by row five, she caught sight of Sugar Belle, Double Diamond, Party Favor and Night Glider waving excitedly. Starlight chuckled as she waved back. Twilight smoldering gaze toward Discord was in stark contrast to the charming grin that was plastered on her face. “I’m going to kill him,” she sing songed softly, not breaking her smile. “Keep it together, Twilight,” Starlight whispered back, beaming at Shining Armor and Cadence as they passed row two. When they finally reached the altar, Twilight inched near Discord and leaned in. “Ruin this wedding, and I will personally go to Princess Luna to discuss your deepest darkest nightmares.” “Twilight,” Discord gasped, holding a paw to his heart. “I’m hurt, truly! Aren’t friends supposed to trust each other?” Twilight squinted her eyes as a low grumble emanated from her throat. With a sharp exhale, she turned to nuzzle Starlight before taking a seat beside Sunset’s mother at the end of the row. “Dearly beloved!” Discord crowded. “We are gathered here today to witness the marriage of Starlight Glimmer, and…” He paused. “And, um…” He glanced at Sunburst and patted his head briefly. “This guy.” Sunburst looked confused while Starlight’s mouth flattened into a line. “They started their relationship as little youngsters. He, a born scholar, and she, a born dictator of many.” Twilight covered her face in her hooves. “Oh no…” “Years after his sister went rogue, Sunburst here earned his cutie mark at a young age and was sent off to join the infamous school for gifted unicorns. Meanwhile, Starlight here went on to pursue a...rather interesting career.” The group shifted while Starlight cleared her throat loudly. “Time passed, and things seemed more than perfect for Starlight Glimmer. That is, until a certain Princess and her entourage came to town. They’re actually here today! Say hi, Girls!” Pinkie lifted her hoof to wave before Applejack smacked it back down. “It wasn’t long before our heroes smelled something fishy in Our Town. One thing lead to another and Starlight was eventually defeated.” He held up a finger. “Or was she?” Grinning toothily, he continued. “Of all the foes the bearers of Harmony have faced, she was the only one to ever escape. But she wasn’t going down without a fight, oh no.” “Please stop, please stop, please stop,” Twilight pleaded under her breath. “Two months later, she was back, and ready for revenge. So, she snuck into Twilight’s castle--” “Wait, what?” came Shining Armor’s voice. “Went back in time, and successfully kept the Sonic Rainboom that brought all of Twilight’s friends together from happening. Several times!” The room was silent, with the exception of a few coughs in the back. Some guests shifted awkwardly while others shot glares in Discord’s direction. Most simply watched with confused glances as they waited for the draconequus to continue. Discord’s eyes trailed the room before he spoke again in a much softer tone. “It was clear then that they were at a stalemate. So, Twilight offered her the one thing Starlight went almost her whole life without. Friendship.” Discord smiled. “Not many ponies know this, but when you’re a villain in power, friendship seems meaningless. It is far better to be feared than loved.” Sunset looked down at her hooves. “Starlight, of course, already knew this. There she was. Star Swirl’s scroll in her grasp, her foe at her mercy. Her revenge was almost fulfilled and victory was at hoof.” He paused. “But she didn’t take it.” Discord let his words hang in the air. “She wasn’t forced. She wasn’t blasted by a rainbow or, in Sombra’s case, had to be blown up into a million pieces…” He winked at the guests. “Amirite? No. She didn’t have to listen to Twilight. None of us would ever give her friendship lectures the time of day! Not me, not Sombra, not Tirek…” “Or Nightmare Moon,” Luna said from the back of the room. “Or me,” Sunset said with a wry smile. After a pause, she nudged Trixie. The magician rolled her eyes and sighed. “Or me…” “Okay, I get it,” Twilight said dryly. Laughter scattered throughout the crowd. Discord grinned and continued on. “Starlight Glimmer, you may be sensitive, overreacting, and maybe a bit psychotic…but who isn’t? It takes a lot, especially for ponies like us, to give up everything you've worked for...for something better. You’re okay in my book. And I wish you both the best.” Starlight chuckled as a chorus of “Awwwws” filled the room. “Thanks, Discord...I think.” “So if any of you can find ANY sort of reason why these two knuckleheads shouldn’t get married, I’d LOVE to hear it!” Ponies looked around and shrugged at each other. “Splendid! Spike, if you please~” With a smile, Spike marched up and held up the small pillow with the two rings. “Starlight,” said Discord. “Do you promise to love and cherish this stallion even if you somehow ever go broke?” “I do,” Starlight grinned, gazing into Sunburst’s eyes. “And Sunburst, do you promise to love and cherish this mare even when she gets disgustingly sick?” “I do!” Sunburst said without hesitation. “Then with the power invested in me,” Discord declared, magically sliding the wedding rings over both of their horns. “I pronounce you mare and colt!” Sunburst smiled as he leaned in, but was quickly tackled in a kiss. Cheers and hollers rose above the long applause that followed, while streamers and confetti shot up into the air and rained down upon their heads. Twilight sat back in her seat and wiped the sweat from under her bangs. “Phew…” "Guys, the wedding rice!" Apple Bloom shouted. "Where's the wedding rice?" Spike quickly wiped his mouth and shrugged. "Beats me!" **** The reception was so loud, Sunset was lucky to hear anypony next to her. All the guests roamed free among the Castle, but most guests had headed for the Crystal Dining room for the banquet. Sunset sat in between her parents, Cloud Burst and Summer Swirl, at the buffet table with their hooves wrapped tightly around one another, their cake untouched. “When I heard you had returned,” Summer whispered,“we were afraid that you wouldn’t want to see us. Of course we wanted to come for Sunburst’s weddin’, but...at the same time…” she trailed off, wiping her nose with a napkin. “We...weren’t sure about how you felt about us,” Cloud Burst admitted, squeezing her tighter. “We weren’t even sure if it was a good idea.” Sunset’s eyes turned downcast. “I can see why you would think that.” The light in her father’s eyes dimmed. “We, uh….” He exhaled briefly. “We know we weren’t the best parents.” “Dad--” “We pushed you so hard to be the best,” Summer Swirl said, her eyes misting over. “It was first place or nothing.” she shuddered a sigh, nuzzling her daughter’s cheek. “At least with Sunburst, we let him study at his leisure, but you, Sunset...you were our first born...the expectations we had, the pressure we put on you...” A few tears slipped down her cheeks and lower lip trembled. “And here I thought you didn’t want to see me,” Sunset said softly. “I’m the one who left all of you.” She shook her head. “I didn’t even say goodbye.” Sunset’s mother patted her hoof. “Well….maybe after the wedding, we can...have a talk? If you’d like to, that is.” Sunset’s eyes shone. “I’d love too.” Sunsets father tapped her on the shoulder and nodded. “I think somepony’s waiting to see you.” Sunset turned around in her seat and saw Princess Celestia standing over by the refreshment carts with Princess Luna. Once and awhile, she would glance over at Sunset while she sipped her fruit punch. She quickly gave her parents a brief hug before slipping out of her seat. “I’ll be right back. I have somepony else to apologize to.” Her parents nodded and scooted over in their chairs in order to let Sunset through. Slowly, she walked over to her old teacher. Celestia noticed this and spoke a few brief words to her sister. Princess Luna looked Sunset’s way and nodded before going over to Twilight and Rarity. The two stared at one another as Sunset neared closer. The unicorn stared up at the alicorn Princess with wide eyes. She opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Celestia smiled and nodded toward the wedding guests. “A wonderful party, isn’t it?” Sunset looked about briefly. “Uh...yeah. Yeah, it is.” Stiffly, she sat beside the Princess and blankly watched the guests feast and dance. “You must be very proud of Sunburst. He is excellent in his studies and he does such a good job taking care of my grand niece.” “Oh yes. I’m very proud. I’m happy that he’s happy.” She looked up at Celestia before returning her gaze to the floor. “And I’m proud of you, Sunset.” Sunset turned around sharply. “Wait...you...are?” Princess Celestia nodded. “Twilight has been telling me how far you’ve come in the human world. How you helped save the school from the Sirens and how you brought your team together when you were facing your foes.” She leaned down and looked Sunset straight in the eye. “I knew you had that strength in you, dear Sunset.” Her violet eye glistened. “It just took you a little longer to realize that.” Sunset trembled slightly. “I never should have left,” she whispered. “I’m so sorry…” A crowd of mares screamed and squealed as Starlight threw the wedding bouquet. Celestia wrapped a hoof around her student and pulled her close. “I didn’t think I would ever see you again.” Her voice wavered slightly. “But perhaps your time away from Equestria was needed. The friends you’ve made and the lessons you’ve learned would not have the same effect on you under my teachings. I just wish we spent more time together.” Sunset embraced her as much as she could. “Maybe we can start now...” She looked up. “If you can ever find it in your heart to forgive me.” Celestia laughed lightly. “Oh, Sunset, don’t you see? You're already forgiven." ****** “Thank you,” Starlight said for the upteenth time. As the guest trotted off, she shook her head at Sunburst. “If I hear ‘Congratulations’ one more time…” “Congratulations, my little ponies!” “T-Thank you, Princess Celestia!” Starlight squeaked. Sunburst laughed. “Might as well get used to it. Being married to you is a great accomplishment.” He kissed her on the cheek. Starlight blushed heavily. “So cheesy,” she muttered, but couldn't help smiling. “Sunbuuurst!” Flurry Heart yelled as she galloped straight into his legs. “Ow! Oo!” He lifted her up with his magic and chuckled. “Hello my dear!” Flurry floated about in Sunburst’s aura, giggling. Cadence trotted over and kissed Starlight on the cheek. “Congratulations,” she said jovially before moving over to Sunburst’s cheek. Shining Armor crossed over to them, chuckling at his daughter. “Thank you for letting us have our wedding here,” Sunburst said, levitating Flurry Heart onto Shining’s back. “It’s our pleasure,” Cadence said. “You saved the Crystal Empire from an eternal blizzard and helped with our daughter. This was just a token of our appreciation.” As the Royal Family departed into the dining room, a burst of applause and cheers came from the ballroom. Trixie exited through the double doors, out of her bridesmaid dress and into her hat and cape. Her chest puffed proudly as she sauntered over to Starlight. “I just gave your guests the most spectacular show of their lives!” She beamed and flipped her mane, which was slightly singed at the edges. “You’re welcome~!” Starlight grinned and hugged her. “Thanks,” she said in her ear. “Nothing but the best for my bestie,” Trixie replied simply. Just then, Pinkie popped up and squished Starlight and Sunburst into a hug. “Awww, congratulations you two!” Her eyes shined brightly. “Can I be the Godmother to your child?” The newlyweds gulped and quickly untangled themselves from the hug. “Well, it’s nice of you to offer Pinkie, but Trixie is already the Godmother,” Starlight explained. “That is, if we decide to have a child.” Pinkie’s face fell. “Oh.” A split second later, Pinkie’s ears quickly perked back up again. “Can I be Godmother’s understudy?” Trixie laughed as she walked off, waving a hoof. “Pinkie Pie, if anything ever happens to the Great and Powerful Trixie, the child is all yours!” Pinkie beamed before turning to Starlight and Sunburst and clutched onto their hooves. “You won’t regret it!” With that, she bounced off. Sunburst stared at his hoof before looking at his wife. “...What did we just do?” ******* “I’m glad you’re here, Twilight,” Starlight said as they danced. The sky had grown darker, and everypony had moved outside on the palace grounds for the special father-daughter dance. Since Starlight’s father was not present, Twilight was there to do the honors. “I’m glad I’m here too,” Twilight smiled as she shuffled back and forth. Musicians played a lively tune behind the two ponies as the guests ate cake and watched them with happy expressions. Twilight grew quiet for a while before saying, “I’m really going to miss you, Starlight.” Starlight looked over her shoulder as she twirled around. “Well, I don’t think you’ll miss me that much,” she laughed. “We’re only a few wingbeats away from Rainbow Dash’s Cloud Palace after all!” Twilight immediately stopped dancing. “W-What?” Starlight took Twilight’s hooves in hers and started swaying side to side, grinning. “I wasn’t gonna tell you till after the wedding, but I guess I can spoil the surprise.” “Surprise?” “I know I said that I was probably going to move into Sunburst’s place, but…” “But?” “Sunburst knew how much I came to like Ponyville, and he always wanted to live someplace more...quiet. So...we decided to...make our own place in Ponyville!” Twilight’s jaw dropped. “You...you are!? B-But what about Flurry Heart and her teachings?” “We already talked it over with Shining Armor and Cadence! Now that Flurry’s old enough to be more in control of her own magic, her parents can send Sunburst weekly reports in how she’s doing. And he’s going to visit her in the Empire twice a month.” Starlight beamed. “We’re moving in in a week. Surprise!” Twilight let out a girly shriek as she and Starlight jumped up and down giddily. “I’m guessing you told her,” a voice said from behind them. Twilight turned and giggled before hugging Sunburst. “Best surprise ever!” Sunburst chuckled. “We thought you’d like it!” “Guess that concludes the father-daughter dance,” said an amused voice, booming from the speakers. “Now it’s time for the first dance between the bride and groom!” Starlight and Sunburst exchanged glances. “Ooh! Let me get out of the way,” Twilight piped, quickly running off the dance floor. As she made her way through the crowd, she saw Sunset Shimmer and the Princess standing amongst the crowd and conversing quietly, holding drinks in their hooves. Twilight paused in her tracks and admired the sight before her. She had always imagined what it would be like to see Princess Celestia and Sunset Shimmer together. They looked so relaxed and comfortable with one another. Seeing them so happy warmed Twilight's heart. Just then, she caught Celestia’s eye. “Twilight!” she called, smiling. “Over here!” Sunset turned her head. “Twilight!” putting her drink down, the two embraced each other. Sunset placed her mouth next to her ear. “I’ve never felt so happy in my entire life.” Twilight giggled. “You deserve it,”she whispered back. As they broke apart, Celestia leaned down to nuzzle Twilight. “I’m glad you’re having a great time, Princess.” Celestia’s eyes twinkled. “Do you want to know something, Twilight?” Twilight lifted her eyebrows. The Princess of the Sun draped one large wing around Sunset and the other around Twilight, bringing them close. “I think,” she whispered brightly. “That this is one of my favorite weddings.” Sunset and Twilight grinned at each other before looking out at Starlight and Sunburst dancing awkwardly in the moonlight. “Ours too, Princess,” Twilight replied, sighing happily. “Ours too.” Sunset glanced at Twilight. “So I guess we were worried about nothing after all, huh?” “Oh, I wouldn’t say that,” Twilight said thoughtfully. Amusement danced in her eyes. “Your'e his sister. I’m her mentor. It’s our job to worry.” > Epilogue: I'd Give You The Moon > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Later that night, Twilight wandered through the darkened halls of the Crystal palace, humming to herself. She paused to lean against the wall and took her slippers off of her hooves, wincing. “It’s never truly a wedding until somepony takes off their shoes, is it?” Twilight’s head snapped up. “Discord? What are you doing here? The Wedding’s over.” Discord floated to the ground and twirled his orange top hat in his claw. “Waiting for Fluttershy to round up the rest of her choir.” He shrugged innocently. “Apparently somepony’s cat accidentally got loose during the reception. Naughty thing." Twilight rolled her eyes. “Wonder how that could’ve happened.” She paused for a moment.“You know, Discord...I actually kinda liked that speech you gave at the ceremony...for the most part." Discord looked pleasantly surprised. “Did you really?” Twilight smiled wryly. “Well...maybe I did think that you were here to sabotage the wedding, but I was wrong. You made her really happy, Discord. I think it was….sweet of you.” Discord’s grin widened. “Well, Twilight!” The young Princess fiddled with her dress. “I think that is the nicest thing you've ever said to me!” “I do mean it,” Twilight smiled as she put her slippers back on. She yawned into her hoof as she did so. “It is late, isn’t it?” Discord said with a nod. He stretched and grunted loudly. “Well, I’d better go see how Flutters is doing.” “Do you know where I can find Starlight and Sunburst?” “Last I saw them, they were still on the dance floor.” He placed his top hat back on his head. “Be seeing you,” he grinned before disappearing in a flash of light. With a smile, Twilight began to walk off when she heard a faint sound. She stopped and glanced around. Raising an eyebrow, she called, “Hello?” A faint shout came from the supply closet to her left. She gasped loudly and rushed over to the closet. She flew the door open, and a pony looked up at her, his body completely bound with rope. The pony gave a muffled shout from under the layers of duct tape encased around his muzzle. “Father Matripony!” she cried. She growled and threw her head back. “DISCOOOOOOORRD!” ****** Starlight breathed in the fresh night air, her eyes closed in content. Almost all the guests had departed, leaving the royal staff to clean up what was left. Starlight and Sunburst lie on their backs in the middle of the dance floor, gazing up at the stars. Somewhere near the back entrance of the palace, they could hear Sunset and her parents talking softly. The stars twinkled brightly in the sky, and the summer breeze caused Starlight's wedding dress to blow gently around her. Her mane swished around her head, free of all of the Wedding pearls Rarity had spent all morning putting in. “I’m glad your sister’s finally making peace with your folks,” Starlight said with her eyes still closed. “I am too,” Sunburst replied. “It’s been so long...it’s kind of weird seeing them together. And...actually getting along.” He turned his head and gazed at Starlight’s face affectionately. “I can’t believe we’re married!” Starlight smiled. “I can.” Sunburst rolled over onto his side. “I promise I’ll always be good to you,” he said. “Anything you ever want or need from me, I’ll be happy to give.” “Anything I want?” “Anything!” “Even the moon?” Starlight asked playfully. The air suddenly grew colder, and the unicorn's eyes snapped open. A shadow passed over them, and it was growing larger by the second. She took one look at the enlarged moon and her eyes threatened to bulge out of their sockets. “AHHH, PUT IT BACK, PUT IT BACK!” Sunburst laughed hysterically as the moon reverted back to it’s rightful place in the sky. Sitting up, Starlight stared at him incredulously. “Did you do that!?” Giggling, Sunburst weakly shook his head and pointed up at the sky. Starlight glanced up and caught a glimpse of a midnight blue tail before it disappeared into the night, followed by “I couldn’t resist!” Starlight snorted and shook her head while Sunburst sat up. “I really would give you the moon if it were possible.” His expression grew thoughtful and he rubbed his chin with a hoof. “Hmm. Well, maybe not entirely impossible…” Starlight smirked and kissed his cheek. “If I read enough on the matter and did the proper research…” Starlight kissed his neck. “Mmhmm…” “Then there’s the gravitational pull to think of…” Starlight nuzzled his ear. “Do you think the Princesses would mind?” “Sunburst.” Sunburst blinked and turned to his wife. “Yes, de--mmmph!” Starlight kissed him passionately, her hooves wrapping around his neck. Sunburst’s face flushed a deep red as Starlight pulled back. “I have no interest in the moon,” she said, gently tugging at Sunburst’s bow tie. “I actually have something...else in mind.” Sunburst’s mouth opened and closed. “D-uuh--well, I--what--see--” “I mean…” Starlight smiled and bit her lip bashfully. “I-If you want to, that is. It is pretty late.” “Oh, no no! I would very much like to, uh….spend some more time with you.” He looked out toward his family and leaned into whisper. “But um, what about my parents, Sunset, Spike and Twilight? We’re all going to be sleeping in Twilight’s castle, you know.” Starlight’s brow furrowed. “Hmmm, that’s true…” then an idea came to her. She stood up and pulled Sunburst with her. “I wonder if Trixie is willing to lend her wagon for a bit.” Sunburst gulped. “Oh boy…” "Anything you need at the store, Starlight?" Sunburst called, throwing on his scarf. "I'm going out to the market!" Starlight looked up from her position on the couch and waved her hoof lazily. "Oh, just some peanut butter, cucumbers, ice cream, spaghetti, oatmeal, crackers, and, uh--oh! Maybe some apples." Sunburst's glasses slid down his snout. "Well...if that's what you want!" "Oh, on second thought, Sunburst, the prices went up on cucumbers since last month. Our house rent's coming up again. I'll settle for pineapple instead. And bundle up, it's a blizzard out there! Rainbow Dash said that it's going to snow like this all weekend!" "Okay!" Sunburst slipped on his blue winter cap and pushed a hoof against the door before stopping. "Oh, Starlight! I almost forgot to tell you, Shining Armor and Princess Cadence invited us to go with them on their trip to the Griffon Kingdom next month. It's official business, but I know you've been wanting to see it!" Starlight's face scrunched up. "Does it involve...hiking?" "Indeed it does!" Starlight sat up and clicked her tongue. "Yeeeeah, see, here's the thing. I'm kind of pregnant, so I don't know how that's going t--" Sunburst collapsed to the floor with a loud thud. "...Sunburst?"
