> Twilight's Final Farewell > by 21latenighter > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Living Forever > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight looked out from her balcony at the castle in the ponyville. How could she say ponyville, it didn't feel like it anymore. She couldn't recall the year, there had been so many. She looked at what used to be Sweet Apple Acres, but after Applebloom had..., had...., left, it was taken over by a new family, but she couldn't remember thir name. A little farther off behind the orchard were five head stones, each of them bearing the cutie marks of one of her five friends. "Twilight, are you feeling ok today", came the familiar voice of Princess Luna. "I was just about to raise the moon for the night, and I thought that I would stop in and check in and see how you are doing", she said as she sat down beside Twilight. "How long has it been Luna, ten, one hundred, one thousand years since they left, I have lost track of the years", Twilight said as she dropped her head low. Besides Celestia, Luna was the only one to keep in touch with Twilight. Her sister in law, Cadence, went completely insane after her brother Shining Armor had died, and jumped off the top of the crystal castle, killing herself. "Twilight, I know that it is hard to lose ponies that are important to you, trust me, but we can't let the past blind us from the future", Luna said with a soothing smile. "I know Luna, but they were my reason for living, and it feels like they have been haunting me", Twilight said looking into Luna's eyes. "Twilight, I know that it is not my place, but have you truly told them goodbye", Luna said, placing a wing on her back. "NO!!!", Twilight snapped, tearing herself from Luna's comfort. "I will never let you, or anypony take them away from me", Twilight screamed as tears flowed from her eyes and she used her magic to teleport. Luna took a moment to look for Twilight, and then went about her duties for the night, slower and teary eyed. Twilight appeared on a hill, but not just any hill, but the hill that her friends were buried under. She took a moment to look at the headstones, and then the pain began. The first of them to leave was Rarity. One day she had an extremely important order go out to an ambassador from Saddle Arabia. She had stressed every detail to get it perfect. That night she went to sleep, but never woke, because her heart stopped from the stress in her sleep. Her death was painless and quick. The next one was Fluttershy, her death was long and strung out. She had gotten cancer in her bones, and lived a life of agony, as the doctor would not let her leave the hospital. On the day she died, Twilight took her out to her house to her animals, and she enjoyed the last day of her life. As the sun went down, her breath slowed, and when it kissed the horizon, she drew her last breath. Twilight tried to get the pain to stop, but the memories kept flowing. Applejack was hard, because her death was so sudden and quick. One day on the orchard she had been helping Applebloom and her son Johnathan trim some trees. As she pulled down a branch on an older tree, the roots gave away and the tree fell on top of her. The last words she said to her sister were "Figured one of these here trees would get back at me" when they pulled her out from underneath the tree. Pinkie Pie had died the way that they had expected her to. One day she was walking down the road when she just fell over dead. She died with a smile on her face. The doctors concluded that all the sugar in her aging body had finally reached her heart. Rainbow Dash's death had been the hardest on Twilight, not because she was the last, but because they had a relationship together. It was Rainbow Dash the wonderbolt and Twilight the smart one against the world. They started their relationship after Tirek invaded, and they thought life in equestria was over. She had been showing the foals a new trick at the Flight camp in ponyville where she taught. Her wings gave out and she fell over three stories to the ground. Twilight wouldn't leave her side, even after the doctors told her that Dash was gone. "Twilight", came a voice behind her, and Princess Celestia and Luna were walking up the hill towards Twilight. "We need to talk", Celestia said as they reached Twilight. "I know why your here, but I am not ready to let them go yet", Twilight said angrily. "Let me show you something Twilight", Celestia said as she used her magic to open a portal. "This is a portal to the past, it will take you to any time you want, but it has to be in the timeline of yoeur friend's death". "Why would I do a thing like that", Twilight asked heatedly. "Because not letting go of your friends is causing them to remain here on this plane, instead of moving on", Celestia said sternly. "They will never know rest and you will never have peace until you let them leave". "If you keep on this path, you will find that it ends with you being separated forever like your sister in law", Luna said. "Ok, what do I need to do", Twilight spoke, barely over a whisper. "I know that it is hard Twilight, but you need to accept that they are gone", Luna said. "But they never even said goodbye", Twilight said, balling. "Then it is time that you give them a farewell that they will never forget", came a voice. The three princesses looked wide eyed at the headstones where five transparent bodies stood. "Let us go Twi", Rainbow Dash said, leaving a slight echo. "Alright, I will", Twilight said sadly. "I am sorry for all the times that I failed you, especially this time, but I am proud to say that you five are my friends. Though I am going to miss..., you", Twilight choked on some more tears. "I wish you all the best of luck on your journey home", Twilight managed to say, smiling through the tears. "Look girls, look at the light", Fluttershy said. The five looked into the light, they then exhaled as their spirits entered the after world. "Twilight, we have some news for you", Celestia, looking right at Twilight. "If you want, we can relieve you of your immortality. You would live for another couple hundred years, but you would be able to see them again". Twilight smiled a big broad smile, one bigger than Celestia ever remembered her giving, and nodded in acceptance. The three began to walk back to ponyville, and in the five hundred years that Twilight had lived, never had she been so happy for the future.
