Mother's Day

An alarm clock went off, after a moment a small hoof hit it to turn it off. The young orange and purple filly yawned as she stretched out and checked her calendar. It was Mother's Day, her father had reminded her to get up early so they could get ready.

The young filly jumped off her bed and snuck downstairs where her father Cruising was waiting. The Pegasus stallion gave her a smile as he ushered her into the kitchen.

"Hey Scoots, are you ready to help with mommy's breakfast?" Cruising asked.

"Yep!" Scootaloo said with a smile as she hopped up onto a chair. "What can I do to help?"

"Hmm, how about you help stir the batter?" Cruising suggested.

"Okay," Scootaloo said happily as she took the spoon in her hoof and started stirring. She wasn't exactly used to it though, and wound up splattering some of the batter on her face. "Oops!"

"Its okay, you'll get the hang of it," Cruising said as he wrapped a foreleg around his daughter and helped her clean off the batter. "It just takes some practice."

Scootaloo finished stirring as Cruising poured the batter.into the waiting pan before continuing to work on the rest of breakfast. with Scootaloo helping wherever she could. The young Pegasus was still getting the hang of it, but it would still require some work.

"Its okay Scootaloo, you're getting the hang of it," Cruising said as he started to pour the batter into the pan. "Do you have your present for her?"

"Yep!" Scootaloo said happily as she ran into the other room and came back with a messily wrapped present. "I had some trouble wrapping it though."

"Its okay, it looks fine," Cruising said with a smile. "She's going to love it."

The breakfast is finished not long afterwards as Cruising finishes the pancakes and poured a glass of orange juice. The Pegasi gathered up the food and snuck back up to the bedroom where Wild Wind was sleeping.

Wild Wind's eyes fluttered open when she smelled the breakfast. She looked at her husband and daughter with a smile.

"Happy Mother's Day, mommy!" Scootaloo said happily as she put the present down on the bed next to her.

"Thank you, both of you," Wild Wind said with a smile as she started eating. She finished eating before starting to open the present. "Oh my..."

"Do you like it?" Scootaloo asked nervously.

"I love it!" Wild Wind said and pulled her daughter into a hug, it was a simple picture of the three together in a locket. "Thanks Scootaloo."

"You're welcome," Scootaloo said happily as her mother nuzzled her.

"Say Wings!" Cruising said as he got in close with the other two after having set up a camera on a timer.

"Wings!" They said in unison as the picture was taken with a click.

Mother's Day had always been one of Scootaloo's favorite holidays, today was going to be a great day.

"Come on," Cruising said. "Lets get going."

The mare and filly nodded and got off the bed, it was time to get the day started for real.

Scootaloo sighed as she slumped out of bed, it had been 5 years since her parents died, and a few months since she was adopted by Rainbow Dash. She sighed as she opened the locket that she had given to her mom, but was now her's, looking at the picture of her and her parents.
She sighed, they looked so happy back then, she missed her parents every day. Rainbow Dash was a great mom of course, but even after five years she missed them.

Even worse, today was Mother's Day, it was a sad reminder of who she had lost. She sighed as she closed the locket and put it around her neck, this was going to be her first Mother's Day with Rainbow Dash, that both excited her and made her sad.

Her thoughts were broken as there was a soft knock at the door.

"Come in," she said and looked up to see Rainbow Dash come in. "Oh, hey mom."

"Hey Squirt," Rainbow Dash said, looking at her adopted daughter, recognizing the look on her face. "Is everything okay, Scootaloo?"

"Yeah... just, thinking about today is all..." Scootaloo said sadly.

"Oh yeah, Pinkie Pie is apparently going to throw a huge party for us, you know, first mother's day and all that," Rainbow said with a shrug. "I think its silly really, but you know how she is, she'd throw a party for a plant flowering."

Scootaloo couldn't help but giggle at that, she wouldn't put it past that crazy pink pony to do that. She frowned after a minute and sighed.
"No, its not about that, its just, I miss my parents you know?"

"I know," Rainbow said as she hugged the orange filly, turning serious. "I've got an idea, here, get on my back."

Scootaloo looked strangely at the mare as she climbed on her back. Rainbow took her downstairs and outside and flew off.

The two Pegasi landed outside the Ponyville graveyard as they trotted between the gravestones. They finally stopped at a pair of gravestones with Scootaloo's parents' names on them.

"Why are we here?" Scootaloo asked.

"Remember how I said I lost my mom when I was a filly?" Rainbow asked sadly, getting a nod from Scootaloo. "I know its silly, but, sometimes I think talking like this helps. You know, tell her what I've been up to, that kind of thing."

Scootaloo sighed, but nodded, it was worth a try at least. "Okay, I'll try at least, I, want to be alone if that's okay."

Rainbow gave her a reassuring smile before trotting off. Scootaloo sighed and sat back on her hindquarters, looking between the two graves.

"Hey mom, dad," she said with a sigh, this felt kind of silly. "I'm sorry I haven't been visiting more..."

She cringed and facehooved at that, that sounded so lame, more like she was making an excuse to have not visited her parents at home. Still, she continued anyway.

"I've got some really great friends, Sweetie Belle and Apple Bloom, you'd like them," Scootaloo said with a soft smile. "We work together to help other Ponies figure out what their cutie marks mean... oh wait, right, I got my Cutie Mark last year, all three of us did. I wish you could've been there."

She glanced behind her towards where Rainbow Dash was watching.

"I was adopted too a few months ago," Scootaloo continued. "By Rainbow Dash, you remember her, you worked together for a short time. She's great, an amazing pony that has been trying to help me fly. I feel like the luckiest Pony in Equestria, but I still miss you both..."

She brushed a tear back, and smiled. Rainbow was right, that had helped, she felt a lot better, even if she still missed her parents. Rainbow wrapped a wing around her and gave her a smile.

"Feel better now, Scootaloo?" The mare asked.

"I do, thanks," Scootaloo said with a smile. "Do you think they'd be proud of me?"

"I know they would be," Rainbow said and held her adopted daughter close. "And so am I."

Scootaloo smiled as she hugged Rainbow tightly. For a moment, it was like they were the only two Ponies in all of Equestria. The world around them faded as they kept the embrace going for a few more minutes.

"Happy Mother's Day, mom," Scootaloo said quietly. "I love you."

"I love you too, Scootaloo," Rainbow said.

Today.

Scootaloo woke up to the sight of a light blue and purple Pegasus Filly looking at her with wide blue eyes with a card in her mouth. "What time is it..."

The filly said something that was muffled by the card before spitting it out. "Sorry, Grandma Rainbow wanted to wake you up early."
Scootaloo couldn't help but smile at her daughter and picked up the filly into her forelegs. They were visiting Ponyville in a brief time between cases for Scootaloo and when Rainbow didn't have to be in a show for the Wonderbolts.

"I'm gonna have to have a word with Grandma Rainbow about being a bad influence," she said with a smirk, she just knew this was revenge for all the times she woke her up early. She picked up the card and couldn't help but smile, it was a hoof drawn picture of her flying. "Thank you Cloudy, I love it."

"You're welcome," Cloudy said with a smile. "Come on, Grandma Rainbow is making breakfast!"

That made Scootaloo freeze in terror, she really didn't want a repeat of her 15th birthday... She heard a light giggle when she realized that Cloudy was kidding.

"Very funny Cloudy," Scootaloo said, then grinned evilly and started tickling the filly with her wings, getting more giggles out of the filly.

Thankfully Cloudy had really been kidding and Fluttershy, who was a much better cook, had cooked breakfast. After they finished eating, Scootaloo and Cloudy went into town, it was Cloudy's first trip to Ponyville, and she was excited to see here her mom had grown up.

"Scootaloo, is that really yah?' A familiar voice with an accent asked, Scootaloo turned with a smile to see Apple Bloom coming up to her. "Ah can't believe yer here!"

"Well, our schedules finally managed to match up," Scootaloo said sheepishly. "You know how it is, I'm a detective, mom's the Wonderbolt captain."

"Well, Ah'm glad yer finally here," Apple Bloom said and turned her attention to Cloudy who was looking at her curiously. "And who's this little cutie?"

"I'm Cloudy!" Cloudy said as she flapped her wings and zipped around Apple Bloom. "Oh my gosh, you're Apple Bloom, mommy has told me so much about you!"

"Aww, yer so adorable," Apple Bloom said with a smile. "Ah'll have ta introduce yah ta Golden Delicious sometime."

Scootaloo smiled as she talked with her old friend more, Sweetie Belle was sadly out of town, which was too bad, a Cutie Mark Crusaders reunion would've been fun, maybe next time. Scootaloo regretted that she didn't make it back home more often, maybe someday she should consider coming to work here.

She just hoped that she would get the chance.

The rest of the day was fun, Pinkie Pie had thrown a huge party at Sugarcube corner. They didn't get back to the Cloud mansion until late, and Cloudy was fast asleep on her mother's back.

"I'm glad you came back, Scootaloo," Fluttershy said as Scootaloo took the final step onto the cloud. "Are you sure you can't stay longer?"

"Yeah squirt," Rainbow said with a smile. "We'd love to have you and Cloudy around more often."

"I promise, we'll visit more from now on," Scootaloo said with a smile. "Besides, Cloudy still needs to meet everypony else."

"Well, we look forward to it," Fluttershy said softly.

Scootaloo took Cloudy to her room and laid her down on the bed and pulled the covers over her. She smiled as the filly's blue eyes fluttered open briefly.

"I love you mommy, happy Mother's Day," she said with a smile.

"I love you too, Cloudy," Scootaloo said and nuzzled her daughter gently. "Sleep well, we have a long trip home tomorrow."

Cloudy smiled as she fell asleep, Scootaloo gave her a light kiss on the forehead and trotted out and headed towards her own room.
She sighed, she missed her parents dearly, but now she had a family of her own. She looked out the window up at the stars, and smiled.

"Happy Mother's Day, mom," she said, she knew that somewhere up there, her parents were smiling down on her.
