She had wanted the dress made this way, the shimmering blue fabric matched her skin perfectly and left her back exposed allowing her to summon her wings if needed. Originally Rarity made the skirt longer in a more traditional fashion, but she urged the white unicorn to make it shorter, wanting to have a free range of motion with her legs. Now she was beginning to think perhaps the skirt was too short now. With the sigh of frustration, she forced her hands behind her back and made a beeline for the refreshment table. Her high heeled boots clicking against the stone floor as she walked. That was another thing that was bothering her, wearing shoes; dragons didn’t normally do that. “Enjoying the party Lord Ember?” A voice asked as she fished the ladle from the punch bowl, it was Princess Celestia, senior princess of Equestria, the pony that raised the sun for all. She smiled warmly down at her, standing well over a head and a half taller than the dragon lord, leaving Ember staring at the sun princess’s bouncing breasts. Ember kept back a growl as she compared her chest to the princess’s, there was no comparison, she might as well been flat chested. “It is a modest event,” She said evenly. She was here to help further improve relations between dragons and Spike, her good friend, the one responsible for her rise to power had been the one to suggest it, so she came, though it was more for him than anything. Celestia’s smile widen, “That’s good to hear. I usually find this event rather boring, so if there’s anything I can do spice it up such as... Oh, like lighting the food tables on fire, please feel free to tell me.” She said with a wink walking away, Ember just blinked and stared at the princess’s retreating ass, gods some women just had it all! Drowning the punch, switch burned her throat, meaning it was alcoholic or someone spiked it, be funny if it had been Spike, she thought with a giggle. Speaking Spike there he was now. The purple dragon stood across the ballroom looking like million bits in his tuxedo, his green hair cut and pulled back; very different from the spiky mess he usually wore it in. He was chatting it up with Rarity and Twilight, both dressed to impress in long flowing gowns, their hair dressed up nice. Spike was paying particular attention to Rarity, who like Celestia, had a bust and ass-blessed from the gods and boy was she showing them off! Ember’s grip tightened and she nearly shattered her glass. With her cheeks burning she discreetly traded it for another and took another sip as she tried to calm herself down. Rarity was her friend, she shouldn’t be mad at her for holding Spike’s attention, they have known each other for longer than she’s known both of them, which was only three years if she remembered right; funny how times flies. Regardless of that, since becoming dragon lord and beginning this bridging the gap between ponies and dragons crusade, she’s had one real purpose behind all of her actions. She wanted Spike and she wanted him more than any mountain of treasure or jewel and not just because he was the most handsome dragon in all the land (the bar wasn’t set that high) or the fact that he made her loins burn with desire. No, she wanted him because she loved him and maybe has since they first met, but she hadn’t realized it till very recently. When she finally realized how much she loved spending time with him and just how lonely she was when he wasn’t around. Drowning her second glass she marched towards the trio while grabbing her third glass of wine, no matter what tonight Spike would be hers! “Hello, guys…” She greeted awkwardly, her face burning with alcohol and embarrassment. She was kind of barging her way into the conversation, but she didn’t know how else to get their attention. “Hello Lord Ember,” They greeted in unison, thought Spike gave her a hug, which she loved as she discreetly took a sniff of his of his natural dragon musk, which made her feel dizzy and her knees tremble, gods, she wanted him so bad it was pathetic! “I um… need to borrow Spike for… dragon stuff! Yeah… dragon stuff…Come on Spike!” She nearly screamed pulling him by the arm as Rarity and Twilight blinked at the display, only to share knowing smiles. “She finally made her move,” Rarity squealed, “Oh I hope she doesn’t mess up her dress too much. Spunk is so hard to wash out of silk.” Twilight nodded, “Yeah it is… wait they’re going to… I gotta stop them!” “Twilight, no! Think of the romance!” Rarity pleaded, but Twilight was hearing none of it, so plan B, “Look Princess Celestia is lighting that table cloth on fire!” “I’m not falling for that, I already took her lighter from her.” “Ha, I got Luna’s!” The princess shouted trying to make a spark, “And my horn!” “Ugh! Why do you do this every year?” Twilight groaned as she went to stop the princess from burning the ballroom down. Rarity smiled, knowing Twilight would be thoroughly distracted for the rest of the night. “Good luck Ember,” She wished well brushing her new sapphire ring and earrings, “And thanks for the jewelry.” Ember dragged Spike down the empty hallway, there was no one in sight, no guards, no maids, nobody but them, it was perfect. Now she just needed to find… aha, a room! “In here, quick,” She urged pushing Spike through the sun engraved doors. “Wait, I think this is the princess’s room!” He pointed out, but she didn’t much care. “I’m sure she won’t mind,” Ember said locking the door behind her. This was it. She had him alone. All to herself, no Rarity, no overly protective Twilight, just her and Spike alone. “So what dragon stuff did you want to talk about?” He asked turning towards her. The moonlight outlining his body with a heavenly glow, those gems she gave to Princess Luna were well spent. The deck was stacked in her favor now she just needed to tell him! “I… um…” There was a lump in her throat. She couldn’t say it! “I-I-I….” So much for being the tough one she growled, her cheeks burning red. She’d gone through all the trouble of bribing Rarity to keep her away, bribing Luna for the perfect moonlight to be directed at this spot and even paid off Celestia to make sure they wouldn't be disturbed and she was going to blow it because she couldn’t stay three stupid words! “Are you feeling ok, Ember? You face is red, you got a fever?” Spike asked with concern as he placed his hand on her forehead, making her blush even more. “Wow, you really burning up! Made you should lie down?” Ember brushed his hand away, “No, no, I’m fine. I’ve just maybe had a few too many drinks.” “All the more reason for you to lie down,” Spike insisted taking her over to the bed. “No that’s not…” She swayed back and forth, nearly losing her balance, that drink was stronger than she first thought. “Maybe that’s a good idea, but isn’t this the Princess’s bed?” Spike shrugged, “I’m sure she won’t mind. You are a royal guest after all and it’s not like she’s some evil tyrant. I still don’t know where Twilight got all those crazy ideas about Celestia banishing her or sending her back to magic kindergarten.” They shared a laugh as Spike pulled the blanket over her, “Thanks.” She whispered, her throat feeling hoarse. “From what it looks like you’ve caught the bug going around, the alcohol probably made it spread faster by lowering your immune system. Pony drinks tend to do that to dragons.” “This from personal experience,” She asked receiving a sheepish grin for an answer. “Yeah,” Spike said looking embarrassed. “Accidentally drank some AJ’s hard cider and ended up being bedridden for a week, it was not pleasant.” “What made it so bad? You were just sick right?” “Yeah, but I also had….” Ember leaned in closer, “What was that?” “Flaming hiccups…” “Hiccups?” Spike nodded, “Yeah, had them for a week, nearly burned down out all of Ponyville." She couldn’t help it, she broke out into full blown laughter, “I’m sorry,” She wiped a tear from her eye, “That’s just too funny.” “Yeah, yeah, I know,” Spike said knowingly, he’d been the joke of the town and the plague after he accidentally set fire to a restaurant when he thought he was cured. He wasn’t welcomed back to this day. “How are you feeling? Any better?” Ember’s eyes fluttered open and close, but ultimately her eyes began drifting shut. “Sleepy, really sleepy actually.” “I’ll tell the princess to get the doctor, I’ll be right back.” She reached out and grabbed his hand, “Wait… I want to tell you something.” “What?” Ember swallowed hard, this was her last chance, she could feel sleep calling out for her as her grip loosened. “I... I'm glad were friends,” She blew it, she couldn’t do it. She failed. Spike kneeled down and kissed her forehead, “I am too Ember, sit tight I’ll be back with the doctor.” Ember snuggled against the blankets as her eyes shut, “I love you, Spike.” Spike smiled at the sleeping dragon lord, “I love you too.”
