> Discord's Possible Impossibility > by Xanderfox > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Only Chapter > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Discord's Impossible Possibility Discord sighed to himself and grumbled in annoyance. He did not like this feeling, the feeling growing stronger by the moment in the pit of his gut. Things where wrong, but not wrong in that wonderful chaotic way he loves so, wrong in a bad way. He should be happy, ecstatic with his victory over the Elements of harmony. He'd made a fool out of Twilight Sparkle, he's made sure harmony was dead in Equestria and no pony was able to stop him. He looked up into the sky, the giant pool table where the sun and moon rolled around like billiard balls with those stuffy princesses trapped inside drifting past. Around him was the madness where Ponyville had once been, no bit of the former town still recognizable by now. A brown stallion with a hourglass cutie mark bounced past him on a jello pogo stick, a griffin with it's wings on it's back like helicopter blades flew past and made inverted honking sounds, a barking dog house chased a dog. All chaos, just like he wanted, but still it was wrong, in the bad way. He was sitting upon his throne of chaos, drinking an egg salad sandwich and eating a mug of beer, yet he was utterly bored, and didn't know why. He'd ensured nothing made sense any more, all was madness, nonsense, chaos. Stroking his beard her decided gloating would make him feel better, rubbing his victory in somepony's face and watching them despair was just the pick up he needed. With a smirk he snapped his fingers and a figure appear in a flash of light before him. Twilight Sparkle, the element of magic, the oh so special chosen one. Her once lavender goat now totally grey, her hair long and scraggly now, and just as grey, eyes down cast, just miserable. "Well, well, well!" he sneered. "Twilight Sparkle, fancy meeting you here!" "Muhhh." Was her non committal answer. "Not so high and mighty now are we?" He chuckled. "No friends, no princesses, no magic. Just a pathetic loser of a pony who failed everyone who counted on her." Twilight said nothing, no even looking up. "What no friendship speech?" he said smiling. "No "You'll never get away with this Discord", come now I know your just itching to let me have it!" "Uhhhh?" Twilight almost looked up. "Yes that's it." He smirked wider. "Try and fight back, go on, your pointless struggles are so entertaining Twilight! What do you have to say?" "Waffle." Twilight said utterly deadpan. "What?" Discord asked. "Waffle, caboose, ding dong." Twilight said, looking up with the most empty eyes Discord had ever seen. "Freight elevator pickles?" Discord frowned, what nonsense was this? How was her supposed to gloat over this, this thing! And Now she was wandering off in a random direction making toot toot noises. "HEY!" Discord shouted and telported in front of her. "Don't walk away when I'm talking to you Twilight Sparkle! I wasn't finished yet smarty mare! You think pretending to be crazy get you off the hook? You messed with the Lord of Chaos, you don't get too..." Discord stared as Twilight didn't stop, she just kept walking, bumping into him over and over. She's stop using words and was just slurring syllables now. Like toy wound too tight she was walked on and on, off kilter. "You... Really are crazy now." He said. "Why... Why is that disappointing?" Discord was confused again, he felt something wrong in the bad way again. Sadness? Was that was the ponies called it? Why was her sad, he'd won. Twilight Sparkle was mentally mush now, she'd never threaten him again, he'd totally and completely won. You weren't sad when you won, you where happy. He knew what happy was, happy was the best, when he was doing his own thing, watching others in their confusion as the silliest things happened around them, like now. But, no, not like now. Twilight was just another example, she kept going, utterly lunacy happening right in front of her, and she didn't even flinch. Living PiƱatas ran from animated sticks, and she didn't seem to notice. Everypony was like that now, every creature was that way now. Total chaos and they just kept going, doing what ever they where stuck doing. He rush about, flitting his tiny wings, here, there, everywhere. Empty stares, empty disinterested stares everywhere. Nothing was socking anypony! He felt rage boil inside him, nopony was reacting! He glared at Twilight and like a shot was upon her. "It's your fault!" He shouted as he grabbed the mare bodily and shook her. "It's your fault they aren't reacting! Your fault my wonderful chaos is being wasted!" Twilight flailed like a ragdoll but said nothing. Discord could see he hadn't injured her, but wondered if she would have even noticed. "Because... Because." he fumed, he knew it was her fault but struggled to articulate how. "YOU LOST!" Discord stopped brain finally catching up to what he said. "Whhhhhaaaa?" Twilight almost giggled. "It's because, you lost." He said softly. "It's all because you lost. You where supposed to win, t-to rally the troops as they say, reactivate the elements and.. Beat me." Discord released the mare and stumbled back as if struck. That couldn't be right, it just couldn't. He was Discord, he was supposed to win right? The pit in his stomach grew to a gapping chasm as he kept thinking. All was nonsense now, nothing was normal anymore. A horrify realization followed, if EVERYTHING was nonsense, then, nonsense WAS normal. Everything was chaos now, and so chaos was the only thing. He felt the edges of his perception and, understood nothing past it. Pure chaos, where nothing had any meaning, he the lord of chaos and Equestia where the only thing that where well things now. The wrongness, it was that pure nothing of chaos creeping closer and closer. Everything was turning into nothing as meaning lost meaning, the universe was collapsing into not being anything. "I have to lose!" he shouted. "If I don't, I can't be! With out normal to compare to chaos isn't anything at all! I need to fix this!" The chaos lord was flabbergasted, he the spirit of disharmony was now the only one left to restore order? Twilight Sparkle had to beat him, had to win! He needed to go back and fix things while he still could. He wracked his brain, how could he? That's to how time and chaos magic worked if he went back he'd already be there, and he wouldn't let him stop himself. He needed to get Twilight back in the fight somehow, she was the hero, she needed to rally. He needed to somehow make that happen, make her turn around and not give up, to fight back! A light bulb popped into existence above Discord's head as he idea stuck him, and with a patented finger snap the Lord of Chaos twisted time itself to fling himself back! With a Flash Discord appeared in Celestia's study in Canterlot, he could feel Celestia near by, worrying and fretting as he student faced this time's version of himself. But he knew what needed to be done, there on her desk, TWilight's Friendship reports! Her little dragon was like a fax machine, all he had to do was activate a mass return charm and all the reports would go back to him, and the first step in his plan would be complete. He snapped his fingers and one by one the scrolls levitated and vaporized into ashes, wisped away by a sparkly effect back to Twilight's little lizard. Discord smiled to himself just as the study doors bust open, Celestia rushing in. "DISCORD!" She shouted. "You dirty-" Celestia was cut off by Discord pinching her mouth shut. She glared in fury at the draconequis, her hot flaring to life. "So sorry Celly dear!" Discord said. "But I've no time. I've got to make sure you student defeats me!" Celestia blinked at the new seed of madness Discord had planted. Make sure Twilight defeated him? Before she could contemplate further Discord snapped his eagle talon and vanished in a flash of light with a loud klaxon. He may have been trying to preserve order, but an order that still needed chaos! Discord shark himself down and darted into a nearby bush as he heard the voices coming. Twilight Sparkle and himself, he taunting Twilight as the little pony's heart broke. Soon she was plodding toward the library while this timeline's Discord did a victory dance. In a moment he'd stop, look up at her tree then in shame and embarrassment flee to the Everfree forest, where the last dregs of her sanity would vanish. But in that moment Discord snapped him fingers one more time, his past couterpart distracted by his victory, and gave Twilight a little nudge. "Don't forget Spike." A voice in Twilight's head said. "He's just a baby dragon, you can't leave him behind." Discord held his breath and waited, and had to suppress a cheer as Twilight walked into the front door of the library to retrieve her baby dragon. And soon he felt it, felt a sensation that ought to have sent a shiver down his spine. THe power of Harmony, returning, growing stronger and stronger as his plan worked. Those reports, those silly little stories of friendship, they where bolstering Twilight's spirit. Of course he soon grew worried as, she kept getting stronger, stronger that she was when he had defeated her. Before long he watched her emerge from the library, a new sense of purpose in her step, the little dragon trailing behind her, elements gripped in her magical field. Discord followed Twilight Sparkle as one by one she confronted her friends, and one by one reversed his brainwashing. But like before they weren't just restored, more power followed though them, though the elements. His native time self wouldn't know what hit him this time, as the stronger than ever elements of harmony returned. But he felt a strange sense of calm as they neared the final confrontation, and despite himself smiled as they encased his past self in stone. A few more thousands of years in stone he supposed, but it beat the alternative of just not being. Sighing sadly he teleorted himself back to the statue garden in Canterlot, realizing what would be coming next. He would stop being, well him, but also not. This version of him, from the future were everything was falling into nothing, would no longer exist. Only his past self trapped in stone would remain. And thus he sat in the grass and sighed. "Thou hast given up a great deal." a voice softly said. Discord turned into suprise to seen Princess Luna, he had expected Celestia to be the last being to see him. "If you think about it I've given up nothing.' Discord said. "I was going to get whole lot of it but gave it up." "And yet in your quest to prevent your ceiseing to exist, you will." Luna said. "Your smarter than I thought, how do you know all this?" Discord asked. "Time travel is a mysterious thing Discord." Luna said. "Echoes of both the past and futures that once where can still be seen under the right circumstances." "Wibbly wobbly timey whimey?" He asked chucking. "I still don't understand that." Luna sighed. Discord looked down t his lion paw, watching it turn transparent. "Looks like my time is about up doesn't it?" Discord asked. "Master of Chaos, restoring order the the universe." "Chaos is nothing with out Order as you learned the hard way." Luna said. "I wasn't all bad was I Lulu?" He asked, more of him fading. "No your not all bad." Luna said. "And even Celestia knows that." "Small comfort." Discord groaned. "It's time we left Lulu." A new voice said. Discord looked and saw, himself? But he'd just been turned to stone. "Glad I got to see my oh so handsome savior before the end." Discord said. "Luna and I are back off to the future almost me." "What?" Discord asked. "Discord from this time will see ponies much sooner than her thinks." Luna said. "Thanks to you..." "Glad I could help..." Discord said and drifted off. Luna and Discord stood and stared at the spot were the other Discord had once stood. Vanished into the ether of possibilities that never came to pass, responsible for and impossibility that came to pass. Never to be remembered, never to be forgotten. End
