> Ori in Ponyville: The Small Light > by Shadow Fantasy > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Finding the Light > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fluttershy was sitting outside, watching the stars in the night. Her nocturnal friends suggested her to try it out. It was so peaceful, the crickets chirping there song and the dazzling night sky, glittered with stars. A cool breeze swept across here causing her to shiver. She curled up in her blankets she laid across the ground. Her yes began to droop as she let out a tired yawn before... she saw a glowing white leaf. Wait, a glowing white leaf? It danced in the wind, twirling and looping. It flew over Fluttershy and headed toward the Everfree forest. Fluttershy watched it descend into the trees. The Everfree was a dangerous place. Things happened in there without warning, much like Pinkie Pie except, much more hostile. Fluttershy crawled out from under blankets. She had been in there before, but she always had someone with her. This time though, she was on her own. She wanted to retreat back under her blankets, but her curiosity took over. She took one shaky step. The Leaf was not far, and it was not hard to find because of its magical glow. When Fluttershy was almost in reaching distance of the leaf, it let a blinding glow that could be seen from Ponyville. Fluttershy shielded her eyes with her hooves. The next thing she heard was a quiet whimper. Fluttershy opened her eyes and looked around to find the sound, but what she saw surprise her. The leaf was no longer a leaf at all. It was a tiny white creature and shown a dim white glow. It's eyes were black except for its two white pupils. It seemed to have four ears, two large ones lower on the sides of its head, and two small ones on the top. The little white furry creature was stuck in thorn bush with ugly gnarled branches. Fluttershy stared in awe. "Don't worry little guy, I will get you out," Fluttershy said in her usual soft voice. She carefully tugged at the branches of the bush, they snapped and popped. She repeated this a few more times until she was able to reach it. "Come here. I will bring you to my home so you can get some rest." It stood up from its crouching position and jumped out, impressively high too for being so small. It landed on Fluttershy lightly, it curled up between her wings. It let out a small multi toned squeak of thanks before curling up on her and went to sleep. "Your welcome." Fluttershy smiled and walked back towards her cottage. Ori POV I woke up in a warm little house. The ground below me felt soft and squishy. I stood up and stretched out my arms and looked around me. The thing I stood on was something that I have never seen before, it had arm rests, three square cushion things where I was sitting, and some more upright that my back was against. It's not surprising I don't know what it is, I can't seem to remember anything except for last night, and a name. Ori, that's right. I wasn't sure what it was meant for, unless it is my name. I jumped down from the... thing, and began looking around. There were a lot of other creatures in here. Big ones with brown fur. Small ones with wings and came in various colors. I my stomach growled, I was really hungry. I don't even remember last time I ate, or if I've ever eaten before. There was some orange fruit growing on a small tree. I pulled on it until the the fruit stem snapped. The tree shook and another fruit fell off, hitting me on my head. "Ow." I glared at the tree. I picked up the fruit I dropped and took a bite out of it. it tasted... AMAZING. I quickly ate the rest of it and grabbed another one. I tossed it in the air and and caught it in my mouth. Its juice flowed down my throat. I have never eaten something so good. "You're an early bird aren't you," some said behind me. I dropped the fruit I was holding and dashed behind the pot. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." I peaked out from behind the pot, it was that nice pony who saved me last night. I slowly came out from behind the pot. She smiled at me. "Come here girl," she said. I slowly walked over to her. "You look a lot better now than when I found in the bushes." I smiled and nodded. I was about to eat another fruit when I heard something bang against the door. "Fluttershy, are you home?" My ears perked up, I was ready to move at any moment. "It's alright... um... what's your name?" the shy pony asked me. What was my name? I guess my name was Ori after all. "Ori," is said, though, I doubt she understood me. The only communication I had, I didn't even know if it was communication at all. For all I know, I could be making up silly noises. "Squeak? Okay, got it." I gave her a deadpanned look. Out of all the possible name, it was 'squeak.' "I'm only kidding Ori." Okay so she can understand me. "Fluttershy?" the things outside called again. "Come in." The door creaked open, a purple pony with a single horn and wings. "Oh hey Twilight, what brings you over?" "There is a party for princess Luna's birthday and we were all invited. Do you want to come?" "Of course Twilight, why wouldn't I." "Great! We need to be there in a couple days for preparations so we have time to get packed, get presents, and..." Twilight noticed me hiding behind Fluttershy. "Fluttershy, what is that?" Twilight asked curiously. "Huh?" Fluttershy looked back at me. "Oh, that's Ori. I found her in the forest. It's alright Ori, she's my friend, you can trust her." She nudged me will her hind leg. I stumbled forwards and looked up. Twilight was smiling at me softly. "H-hi," I managed to say. "Aw, aren't you a cute little... Fluttershy, what is she any way?" "I don't know. I just found her, it was so strange to because when I saw her, she was just a leaf." "A leaf?" "A glowing white leaf." "Then it turned into a small little animal. I couldn't leave it in the forest alone, so I took it in." "I've never heard of anything like it. Well, I should go Fluttershy, Rarity wants me to try on some dresses. She probably has quite a few, she also may have some for you." "Thanks Twilight for letting know. I will be sure to go visit Rarity as soon as I can." Visit Rarity? She's leaving, did I do something wrong. I don't want to be alone. My thoughts buzzed around in my head and I started panicking. "Goodbye Twilight." "Bye Fluttershy." The door closed. Around now other creatures were waking up too, they all stared at me. I shrunk away, but they were everywhere. Fluttershy seemed to notice this and stood over me. I felt less afraid now. "Alright guys, this is our new guest, her name is Ori. She will be staying with us for as long as she wants. I want every one to welcome her." The first one was a little white bunny. He did not seem pleased, but the other animals didn't seem to mind, yet he was the first to come up and introduce himself. "My name is Angel." I held out my paw. "My name is..." "Ori, I already know." He pushed my paw aside. I looked down sadly. Did I do something wrong? "It's alright Ori, he is always a bit grumpy," Fluttershy told me. That didn't make me feel any better. Fluttershy left the room and outside. "It's time for breakfast everyone," she said in her usual quiet tone. A small brown squirrel climbed down from the window and came up to me. "Ori right?" I nodded. "My name is Nutty," she said in a very high paced and high pitched voice. She held her hand. "Nice to meet you Nutty." "It's always nice to meet new people," she said. My eyes drifted to Angel. "Well, almost always. Don't worry, he is usually like that. I remember the first time I came here. It took a while, but he will grow on ya, you'll see." She dashed off towards Fluttershy. That is when I knew that Nutty and I would become good friends. "You coming Ori?" "I already ate." "Well, at least come hang out with us." "Sure." > Lighten Up > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ori POV Fluttershy, was about to leave to see a pony named Rarity. I didn't want her leave. I didn't want to be alone with all these other animals. I clung on to her, not wanting to let go. "It'll be alright Ori. I won't be gone for long. Just a few hours." Well a few hours is quite long to me. She put me down the ground, but as soon as I could, I got on top of her back. "Ori... well, i guess you'll be okay, but you have to be good. No running off okay. I nodded, that is an easy rule to follow. I am to afraid to any where she wasn't anyways. She walked out the door, me on her back. ' On second thought, maybe I should've stayed. There were strangers everywhere! "Before we go to Rarity's I want to introduce you to some of my other friends along the way." She lifted her hoof and pointed to a very colorful... house? "That's sugar cube corner. That's where Pinkie Pie should be." Pinkie Pie. what... wh-who... that's an unusual name. She pushed the door open and suddenly, out of no where, a very hyper, entirely pink messy maned Pony greeted us. I probably would have hid somewhere, if there was a place to hide. "Hey Fluttershy, how you doing. Ooh! Who's this little girl? Aw she's so cute." I felt my small helpless body get lifted into the air. "Umm... I don't think..." Fluttershy tried to say something but she was already behind the counter. "What do you want. We have pink strawberry muffins, blueberry muffins, chocolate cupcakes, lime cupcakes. Rainbow colored cupcakes..." I looked at all the colorful things, wonder what they were. Cupcakes... muffins... what even were these things. "We're fine," Fluttershy told Pinkie Pie. Though I wanted to try one of these "Cupcakes" What did they taste like? I wondered. I jumped down from Fluttershy's back. "Oh, did you want to try one Ori?" I saw a white one in the back. "That white one," I said. Pinkie Pie didn't seem to understand, but thankfully Fluttershy did. "She'll take the snow berry cupcake please." "Sure thing! Here you go." She handed me the cupcake. I took it in my paws. "Come one Ori, I want you to meet Rarity," Fluttershy told me. I walked beside Fluttershy while still holding the cupcake. I took a small bite of the white stuff on the top. My face lit up, it tasted really good. I took another bite, this time with the small blueberry. This thing tasted so good. I ate the rest of it. While chewing, I felt some sort of papery substance. I spit it out, I wasn't sure what it was. I saw some other ponies coming out of Sugar Cube Corner, they ate their cupcakes except for the paper thing. They would throw those in a black square thing. I threw mine into one. "What did you think of the cupcake?" "It was really good... um... Fluttershy, why can only you and the other animals understand me?" "Well, I spend a lot of time with animals and I caught on to what they were saying. I began to learn more about animals to a point where I could understand some of them." "Oh." "I can't understand all animals entirely, so we work out a way of communication using pictures or movements. Though, I can understand you completely." "Why is that?" "I don't know. The way you speak doesn't sound like any animal sound I've heard. It almost sounds like another language." I shrugged, this all sounded confusing. "You seem to understand ponies very well, why is it that you cannot speak our language?" "I guess, I never tried," I said. "Try to say my name, Fluttershy." "Fluttershy," I said. "I meant the same way I said it." "Oh... okay..." I tried to figure out how to say it, "ury... urshy... luttushy..." I shook my head, it felt so weird trying to say it. How do you even do it? "Try again, Fl-u-tter-shy," she said slowly so I could have an easier time repeating. "Okay here I go again..." I tried again. "luttry... Flettersy... Fluttery... Fluttershy... Fluttershy!" I did it, it sounded weird coming out of my mouth but I did it. I did a little dance. She laughed, I realized what I did and began to feel embarrassed. "Good job, Twilight would be pretty impressed. I've never heard an animal learn to talk like us before. Well, here we are." I stood next to Fluttershy when she knocked on the door. The door opened magically. "Twilight, you look absolutely marvelous in that dress." "Rarity, I appreciate how much effort you are putting into my clothes, but it's been three hours strait and I need to sit down." I saw the two ponies, one who I recognized as Twilight, the other I suppose was Rarity... then there was the dragon that seemed to be floating around the white mare. "Oh hello dear. Would you like to start trying on your outfits Fluttershy?" "It would my pleasure, oh, I'd like you to meet someone." She stepped to the side, revealing me. "This is Ori." "Oh Fluttershy, where did you find such a darling little creature." "It's actually quite an interesting story." "You can tell me all about it while you try on your new dresses." "So I was watching the stars when a small leaf..." Fluttershy's voice became muffled behind the curtains." I saw the green dragon walking towards me. "Hi, my names Spike. You must be Ori, nice to meet you." He shook my paw. I just smiled, I only learned one word and that was Fluttershy. "Don't talk much?" "No, you can't really understand, you can't understand me can you? The only one that understands me is Fluttershy." "...I do recognize Fluttershy, but everything else you said..." the dragon shrugged.
