> A Broken Heart > by Autistic Writer > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Hurt > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Happiness. This was the emotion that Dusk Shine used to guide himself to school. He never felt so happy and so satisfied in all his life. He had been restless for the last few weeks of school. The reason for his restlessness was the fact that he was feeling weird around his friend Sunset Shimmer. The strangest ideal that Dusk Shine couldn't understand was why was he feeling these strange emotions. Sunset Shimmer was just his friend, yet ever since the night that he got a strange shock from sitting next to her, that he felt a overwhelming sense of emotions that he never felt around her before. Dusk Shine questioned why he felt this way. It was only his sister in law Cadence that provided the answer that he might have been in love with Sunset Shimmer. At first, he thought that Cadence was wrong. There was no way he felt those emotions towards the woman with red and yellow hair. Yet, when Dusk summarized his emotion combined with the interactions of Sunset Shimmer, it all became clear. He was in love with Sunset Shimmer. With his reasons for his weird emotions finally coming to light, Dusk Shine was faced with a secondary problem. What should he do now? Sure, he realizes he was in love with Sunset Shimmer. Now, came the part of what to do with this love being revealed to him. Should he tell Sunset Shimmer and the others about this? Dusk Shine needed support. He needed answers. Luckily, he knew just the right girl to talk to. Someone who has had experienced these types of emotions before. Dusk Shine knew if anyone could help him. It was the fashionista that he needed to seek an audience with. "Rarity?" Dusk Shine entered the band room, which was one of the many hangouts for his friends. AJ and Rainbow Dash led him to where Rarity would be. He couldn't ask anyone but her about the advice he had. Rarity had been so kind to him, so it had to be Rarity's advice that would advise him on what to do about his love for Sunset Shimmer. "Rarity, are you in here?" Dusk Shine was told by the others that Rarity is experienced with love and knows what to do when one has the feelings of being in love. Dusk Shine searched around the room until he spotted his purple haired best friend designing dresses for the dance. Pushing up on his glasses, Dusk Shine slowly approaches Rarity. "Rar..." Dusk Shine said before Rarity wipes around and smacks the glasses off his face. "Goodness," Rarity didn't hear Dusk Shine entering the room at all. She was in the zone of designing the dresses for the dance. She needed to grab something, but she didn't notice how close he was to her. "I'm sorry Rarity. Didn't mean to interrupt you, but i needed some advice about love." "Love?" Rarity tilted her head. Dusk Shine was asking her about love. He was a bookworm. He wasn't the person that would seek love advice. Yet, the sudden feeling of helping a friend, who had love troubles, was too good to pass up. Rarity pulls up a chair and gave one to Dusk Shine before sitting down. "Tell me about this advice you need from me?" Dusk Shine knew he couldn't say his name directly. Rarity would be too obsessed to learn about who he had a crush on. So, Dusk Shine saw he needed to bend the truth a little bit. "Well, i have this friend who is in love with this girl. He is having trouble figuring out what to do next?" Rarity wasn't an idiot. She could see that Dusk Shine was the one in love. Was she the girl he liked or was it another friend? Rarity wasn't going to push the issue, but she was going to play along with him. "Well darling, he just need to confess his feelings to the one he likes. If his love is true, then he should confess it with confidence" "Confess?" "Yes," Rarity exclaimed, "He needs to look at her straight in the eyes, holds her hand and tell her how much he loves her." Dusk Shine gulped. He heard the method that Rarity described and it made him more afraid of telling Sunset of how he feels. "But, i am sure you friend will have the confidence to confess to the one he loves." Dusk Shine felt lifted of Rarity's words. "Now, some confessions are like tests, some can be successful. Where the girl will answer the confession with the same amount of feelings they have for them..." "Thanks Rarity," Dusk Shine left as he had the information he needed in order to confront Sunset Shimmer about his feelings. "...and there are some confessions that end up in heart...break." Rarity noticed that Dusk Shine was gone. She sighed hoping her advice helped him be bold enough to confess to her. Taking Rarity's advice, Dusk Shine was going to take confident and confront Sunset Shimmer about his feelings. He was going to tell her he loved her and hopefully she would feel the same way. It had to be that conclusion. She probably felt the same awkwardness as he did. He bought a bouquet of roses and a heart-shape box of chocolates. It might have been cliche, but Dusk Shine was preparing his heart for the confrontation. It was like taking a big quiz that would decide one's future. Dusk Shine readied himself in the men's bathroom. "Sunset Shimmer, i need to tell you something important. I am in love with you. I have bought these roses as proof of my love. The chocolates represent how kind and sweet you have been to me. Please, i wish to turn our friendship into something more." Dusk Shine smiled before he smacks himself in the face, "That sounds stupid, let's try again." "Hey Sunset, you are looking gorgeous today. I got these flowers and chocolates for you. I bought them to show you how much you mean to me and how much i am in love with you." Dusk Shine thought that would work, but he slaps himself again realizing that just sounds just as ridiculous as his first speech. Dusk Shine took a face full of water in order to wash his senses. "Alright Dusk Shine, just walk in there, look her straight in the eyes and tell her how you feel." Human Dusk Shine practiced his stress relieving techniques that his sister in law, Cadence taught him to do. He took his hands on the flowers and chocolates. They acted as his sword and shield. "Onward, to Sunset Shimmer," He told his mirror and walked out of the bathroom. He was prepared to tell Sunset how he felt about her. Meanwhile, "Ow Dusk," Sunset rubbed her foot when the pony Dusk Shine stepped on her foot while practicing how to dance. "Sorry Sunset, i am still not use to dancing without hooves." Dusk Shine stared down while also looking at her. "It's okay, it took me a while to do it too, but I got it down eventually. It has something to do with the hips." Sunset patted her hips before she positioned herself and took Dusk Shine's hands, "Again," Seeing the door in his sights, Human Dusk Shine approaches the door to the band room. He prepared his heart to seek out the one he truly loved. He knew it was love. It had to be love. It was something he was going to seek and he was going to obtain. However, Human Dusk Shine opened the door at the wrong time. His expression turned from a happy smile to complete shock. Human Dusk's mouth dropped as well as the roses when he saw his other self and Sunset Shimmer. His shock was out of the surprise of seeing the two of them kissing one another. Human Dusk Shine didn't know what to do. He was in complete shock of the events that were happening. The pony Dusk had dipped Sunset down, but his face flew forward and that's what started the kiss. Human Dusk gathered they were kissing, but why were they kissing. Are they together? Two people only kiss on the lips if they are together. Did i fall in love with someone who likes someone else? Dusk Shine needed to leave the room and the couple, however when he stepped on the bouquet, Dusk Shine and Sunset Shimmer was alerted to some strange sound. Human Dusk Shine leaped out of their sights, closed the door and ran away. Back in the band room, pony Dusk Shine pulls Sunset up and stops the kiss, "I am very sorry. I didn't mean to kiss you." Sunset takes a step back while being embarrassed about the kiss, "I am sorry too. I didn't mean for that to happen as well." "I want to thank you for the dancing lesson, they are really paying off." "You're welcome, Dusk." Sunset Shimmer smiled. "Sunset, I know what you are planning for the dance." Dusk Shine crossed his arms. "The girls told you?" "Yes, and i am in full support of it. I want to help you with it," Dusk faced his friend, "I thought it was strange at first, but i think i am ready to accept it. I just ask that you will take me to the dance. Just to help you with the plan." "Sure," Sunset let out a grin, "I just can't ignore it for any longer. Thank you, Dusk." Rarity and the others haven't seen human Dusk Shine for most of the day. They wondered what was taking him so long? Fluttershy was the first to ask about the disappearance of human Dusk. "He's probably just fiddling with some math homework." Rainbow scarfed down some food. "Yeah, i am sure Dusk Shine will join us soon," Rarity believed in Dusk Shine's return to the table. "We should check up on him. Hey where's Sunset and the pony Dusk Shine?" Pinkie Pie remarked. "They said they needed to do something for the dance. I hope Dusk Shine can spend some time with us at the dance." Fluttershy softly spoke. "Hey, that looks like Dusk Shine is coming." Applejack proudly stated as she saw the glasses wearing Dusk Shine putting his tray down and sitting down really slowly. Rarity sensed that, unlike the other times that Dusk Shine has joined them for lunch, something was amiss in the teen's emotions. The morning he came to seek her advice, he was energetic as Pinkie Pie. However, right now, it was as if he lost all that happiness. Almost like a sugar rush. "Dusk Shine, have you seen..." Rainbow asked before Dusk Shine answered quickly, "They are coming in a little while. They needed to do some things for the dance." "That's great to hear. Maybe they have some great ideas for the dance." Pinkie smiled while writing in a notebook about some ideas for the dance. As the others ate, Rarity kept watch of Human Dusk Shine. Something about his tone and his emotions didn't seem all too thrilled. Rarity felt that it had to connect with the advice he had asked for this morning. "Hey guys, sorry we are late..." Sunset Shimmer started. "We lost track of time," Dusk Shine finished Sunset's sentence. The human Dusk avoided to look at the couple, which caught Rarity's notice. She kept her eye on Dusk Shine just to see how he was feeling. "I really can't wait for the dance. I feel that everyone is going to have a great time." Sunset couldn't contain how much she was looking forward to the dance. "Yeah, i know. But, i just want you guys to know that I am going to be at the dance." SQUIRT Everyone at the table noticed that Dusk Shine crushed his soda can at the direct mention of pony Dusk Shine's announcement. He had to come up with something quick to avoid suspicion, "Sorry, i don't know my own strength." "Hahaha, i told you Dusk Shine could crush that soda can." Pinkie giggled despise the fact that she never made such a bet. "Well, that's good that you can stay here for the dance," Fluttershy was cheerful. "Yeah, that means that we might have one extra hand of getting the dance all set up." AJ was glad that she doesn't have to look far for another volunteer. Human Dusk Shine scarfed down his food in attempt of trying to be there for everyone, despise the sudden anger he was feeling. He was still trying to comprehend the situation he had witnessed with his alternate self and Sunset Shimmer. "But, the best part is that I am going with not just all of you, but Sunset Shimmer as well. Won't it be great?" Dusk Shine cheered. Human Dusk Shine shoves his place forward. He couldn't take any more of this garbage. He pushes his tray across the table so loudly that everyone noticed Human Dusk Shine wasn't happy. "What's going on Dusk?" Pinkie Pie raised a brow. "I just realized i have a question to ask one of my teachers. I will see you all later." Human Dusk Shine looks to all of them. Sunset, the five girls and the pony Dusk Shine saw Dusk Shine tossing his tray away. Rarity noticed something that the rest of them were clueless on. She saw the single river that would soon break the dam in Dusk Shine's eyes. "Was it something i said?" Pony Dusk realizing he might have angered his other self. "I'll talk to him," Sunset sensed something bothered Dusk Shine. She was about to get up, but Rarity stopped her. "No darling, I shall see what is bothering him," Rarity volunteered. She got up and threw her tray away. Rarity knew what was eating away at Dusk Shine's heart. She gathered that something must have happened with his confession. Rarity went outside. It didn't take her long to realize that Dusk Shine's crush was on Sunset Shimmer and that he must have either been rejected or saw something that held him back from confessing. Rarity saw Dusk Shine crying in the hallway. She saw the way he held his heart. It was a true sight to behold. She fought back her tears seeing the one she loved getting his heart broken. "Dusk Shine? Are you alright?" Rarity alerted Dusk Shine that he wasn't alone in the halls. Dusk saw Rarity in the halls. The horror in his eyes gathered together the fact that Rarity knew everything. It was like he was turned to stone. He is afraid of what Rarity might say or do to him. It was why he had to run away, and run away he did. Away from Rarity, away from his problems and away from this awful pain in his body. Why did he feel this way? He turned his head back hoping that Rarity wasn't following him. Rarity was wearing a type of shoes that wasn't for running. Those other shoes were inside her gym locker. However, Dusk Shine underestimated Rarity's determination and saw the fashionista running after him. "Dusk Shine wait," Rarity chased after the human Dusk Shine in the halls. The two kept running all over the school. Rarity knew what was bothering Dusk Shine. "Rarity, i just want to be alone," Dusk Shine screamed while streams of tear drops left his eyes. "Dusk Shine, we need to talk about this," Rarity ran after him, despite the shoes she was wearing wasn't suitable for running long distances. Thinking of a quick way to stop her friend, Rarity snaps Dusk Shine to reality with a smack to his head with her shoe from a short range. Rarity was successful in her throw, but she saw the damage she did when the glasses wearing male stumbles down and hits some lockers with his back. Rarity gasped and rushed to aid her friend. She didn't mean to hit him that hard. "Dusk Shine!" Dusk Shine landed on his butt, but he didn't lift his head. When Rarity inspected her friend, she saw that he had tears in his eyes. Rarity saw the familiarity of Dusk Shine's situation. "What am i doing wrong, Rarity?" Rarity felt the overwhelmed emotions in his voice. She had stepped in his shoes many times. She knew the hurt that he was going through, and just like her, he needed someone to be there for him. "Dusk Shine, you didn't do anything wrong." Rarity sat down next to him and prepared to teach him a lesson on love, "I tried to explain , before you rudely left, is that a confession can sometimes be successful. However, it could also end in heartbreak. "Not every confession is answered with a yes. Not all romantic relationships happen instantly. I am sure you are familiar with a rejection?" Dusk Shine nods his head while paying attention to Rarity's wisdom, "Rejections are very painful and no matter what it is for, a person will most of the time be in pain after the rejection is given. The type of rejection you went through is something called a broken heart." "A broken heart? But, my heart isn't shattered, otherwise, i wouldn't be here." Dusk Shine confused by Rarity's words. "It's not something that happens physically, but emotionally," Rarity pointed to his head, "In here is where you feel the most hurt. You feel shattered, destroyed, all life draining from you, your world coming undone and an overwhelming sense of hopelessness. You lose the ability to feel. You lose your faith in love. It's going to hit you and it's going to hit you hard." Dusk Shine could tell that Rarity was an expert on heartbreak, "But, you need to find a way to get over it." Dusk Shine saw Rarity sitting down next to him, "I have felt the same thing you have felt many times. Some more recently." The male perked up when he heard Rarity's declaring some recent heartbreak. He couldn't see it since Rarity wasn't as heartbroken as he was, but in her eyes, she was also in a depressed state. Rarity loans Dusk Shine her handkerchief to dry his eyes and nose. It didn't bother her that her handkerchief was returned in tears and boogers. "I guess i feel silly for even confessing to Sunset in the first place. If I knew she was going out with the other Dusk Shine, i wouldn't have asked in the first place." Rarity wanted to tell Dusk Shine that the two weren't in that type of relationship, but something held her back. She looked at the sad puppy dog that was her crush. He currently showed no more interest in Sunset Shimmer. This was the perfect moment for her to strike. "I guess that means i can't go to the dance with everyone." This stopped Rarity's former actions. She wanted to tell Dusk Shine how she felt, but he threw this curveball at him. In response, Rarity slammed his kneecap with her hand. "You are most certainly going to that dance." The male put on his glasses once he heard the words of his friend. "How? I don't have anyone to go with?" "Yes you do. You shall go with me?" Rarity told him with confident. She stood up tall just to show him how serious she was being. Rarity realized that he was suppose to ask her to the dance, but she didn't care. She wasn't going to let Dusk Shine weasel out of going to the dance. "You want to go with me to the dance?" Dusk Shine raised his head and took a glimpse at the young woman's determined look. "Why certainly, you are my....friend," It took a mouthful for Rarity to stomach saying he was her friend. It was true that they were friends, but Rarity wanted more out of mere friendship, "and what kind of friend would i be if you were excluded from the dance?" Dusk Shine felt the happiness from this morning. He didn't think about his next move, he acted on impulse. The surprise hug he gave Rarity even shocked her. When Rarity felt Dusk Shine's hug, her cheeks turned white to red in the span of five seconds. Rarity couldn't caculate what exactly was going on right now. Is he hugging me? Is Dusk Shine actually hugging me? "Oh my goodness," Dusk Shine pulled from his hug to sense that Rarity was heating up from his hug, "Rarity, are you alright?" Rarity snapped out of it when the calls of concern came from her crush, "I am alright darling, just a bit hot." "Right," Dusk Shine smiles before noticing the time, "Oh my goodness, it's almost class time." Dusk Shine wipes off any dust from his body and faced Rarity, who was still standing in the same spot. "Rarity, we're going to be late for class. I can't thank you enough. I just hope that everything goes back to normal." "Yeah...normal." Rarity slowly realizes that she wasn't looking forward to things being back to normal. Dusk Shine approaches Rarity and wanted to thank her for the kind words she exhibited to him. He was worried that his second hug might make Rarity warm again. He did the next best thing. Something he does to his family members. Suddenly, Rarity felt the wetness of Dusk's lips brushed up against her cheek. He kissed her cheek. As soon as Dusk departed from Rarity, she became a rocket and soared in the air. Rarity's inner self celebrated the fact that Dusk Shine kissed her cheek. Her hand touched the part of the cheek that her crush kissed. "I am never washing this cheek again." Rarity concluded before she walks with her date to their next class.
