> The New Pony > by Pebbles > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Prologue > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The knock on her door was so quiet, Celestia almost couldn't hear it. "You may come in," she called, wondering who it could be. The door swung open, and a young unicorn stepped in. Her dark blue pelt, and lighter mane, hid, as Celestia saw it, a very terrified pony. With wide, awestruck eyes, the pony said, in an almost soundless voice, "My name is Mystical Shine. But, uh, you can call me Misty." Celestia smiled, "Welcome, Misty, as you already know I am Princess Celestia." "Umm, Hello. Is this about my enrollment to your school?" she murmured. "You don't need to be afraid, child." Celestia said, soothingly, "I'm not going to hurt you." She said, a little bit louder, "Am I accepted." "Oh, yes." Celestia announced, the filly had shown amazing talent, "But, I have not called you here about that. I want you to do a, how do I put this, a... exchange. I would like you to be taught under my most faithful student, Twilight Sparkle." Misty's eyes widened, "Twilight Sparkle! The one who defeated Nightmare Moon, and Discourt! Ohmygosh, Ohmygosh! Am I actually going to be taught under her!" "Yes!" Celestia smiled, "I like your enthusiasm! Now, we shall write her a letter, and then send you to Ponyville!" Suddenly realizing her outburst the pony shrank down, "I'm sorry." Celestia thought for a moment, then said, "You're going to have to be louder than that for Twilight." "Oh!" She said, yelling almost, "Excuse me for being quiet!" Celestia raised an eyebrow, "What did your mother tell you?" "She said I shouldn't talk to loud, and not be as obnoxious as I usually am, and not boast or brag, and- Oh No! I forgot to bow!" hastily the pony sank on her knee. "Anyway she said I should answer all your questions as thoroughly as possible, which is what I'm doing right now. Then she said not to show off, oh wait I said that. She also said, no yelling. But, I did that because you asked me too. She told me to talk quiet, and be polite, and show you I'm civilized!" Celestia was amazed Misty's mouth could do anything after talking 1,000 gallops per hour. "Forget what your mother said. I want to meet the real you, and I'm sure Twilight does, too." > The Letter > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The sharp rap at the door told Twilight that the first guests had arrived. She trotted over to the door, and opened it, "Welcome Applejack, to our first ever, Study Party!" "Uh, yeah, uh, Twilght, what exactly, are we studying?" "Why, Equestria, history, AJ!" "Oh yeah, Twilight," Applejack wanted to be applebucking. Another knock, this one quieter, brought Twilight to the door, "Good Morn-" "Good Morning Rarity!" Spike shoved Twilight away, "Beautiful day, isn't it?" "Actually not, I specifically asked Rainbow to calm the wind. It's blowing dust all over my hooves!" Rarity said, indignantly, wiping her hooves on the ground. "I mean, yeah, it isn't beautiful, at all. Much to windy for my taste!" Spike exclaimed. A third knock, called Twilight to the door. "Good Day, Fluttershy!" "Oh hello Twili-" "Hi Twilight! I really should have knocked, but the door was wide open, so I figured, that you were just letting everybody in. I can't wait for your party, because I've never been to one of your parties. " Pinkie Pie bounded into the room, "HEY! WHERE'S the balloons?" "Oh lighten up, Pinkie Pie, it's a study party, not a actual party," Rainbow Dash was standing behind Pinkie Pie. Twilight looked a little hurt, "Well it is a party, I think." Rarity was talking to Spike, "-and so you see, I couldn't have gone without putting some diamonds, because that's what it needed, and I can't let Lilly down with a bad dress, see, she always makes her payments on time, so-" "Okay, everybody, it's time to study!" Twilight said ecstatically, "Everybody gather in a circle around me, and I can teach you about Equestria's History." Applejack yawned. "So, uh, anyway, Equestria was once ruled by Discourt, as we all know, and he was vanquished by-" "Donuts and Apples!" Pinkie Pie exclaimed, hopping up and down. "That's wonderful Pinkie," Twilight said. "I could really go for a snack break!" "Sugarcube, that's a wonderful idea!" Applejack exclaimed, hopping up, "Snack break!" Twilight slouched slightly, discouraged, "If that's what everyone wants, I guess it's okay." "Great!" Rainbow Dash stood up. "The punch does look good," Rarity mused. Spike hopped up, and handed her some punch. "Oh Thank you Spike," Rarity said, taking the punch, and begin to drink. Spike did too. Suddenly, his cheeks puffed out and he burped out a letter, the punch cup shooting into Rarity's face. "Spike! Eew, my coat is red! Eew, eew, eew!" Spike handed Rarity a napkin, and Twilight the letter. Twilight read," Dear Twilight Sparkle, You have been my most faithful student from the beginning. I offer you, now, a challenge. I believe it will enhance your skills greatly. You do not have to accept, but I greatly entreat you too. I ask that you take in another, new, student of mine, Mystical Shine (aka Misty) and teach her all you know. She is also gifted in magic, like you. I repeat, you can decline my request. Anxiously awaiting your reply, Princess Celestia. > Chapter 2 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is my first fanfic, so any critiquing, or correcting is welcome. :) To those who commented on Misty's alter- personality, I've don some editing on the prolouge to give you a better idea ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Stunned silence seemed to strike the ponies. Twilight looked up from the letter, eyes wide. "A new... pony?" "YEP! That's what she said!" Pinkie smiled. "But, I don't have enough time. This will totally affect my studying!" Twilight began to panic. "Twilight, dear, Celestia understands. She's going to help you, by sending this new pony. If your grades drop, I'm sure she'll understand," Rarity began to try to soothe Twilight. "You don't understand!" Twilight looked like she was going to cry, "I've never been a teacher, ever. What would I teach her?" "Now there, sugarcube, don't get upset," Applejack walked over. "You could always say no," Rainbow dash suggested. "SAY NO!!!" Twilight screamed, "I couldn't do that! This is the princess of Equestria! I can't just say no!" "But, but Twilight, she values your opinion," Fluttershy whispered. "Okay, this is okay," Twilight began to calm herself, "I value your opinion, everybody. Why don't we vote? All in favor of me taking on a student say 'aye'" "Aye!' "Ooh! Ooh! Me! Aye!" "Aye!" "Aye!" "Aye!" The only one who was silent was Twilight. "I guess majority rules..." she said, looking rather crestfallen. "Yay! Ooh! I could throw a party!" "Spike... take a letter, I guess." "Yes Twilight!" Spike grabbed a quill. "Dear Princess Celestia, I will take her. Sincerely, Twilight Sparkle," Twilight dictated. Spike burped and whooshed it into the air. Silent minutes passed. Then, Rainbow dash gasped, staring out the window, "Look!" A gleaming light blue carriage seemed to melt out of the sky. With a thud, it landed in front of the library. Out stepped Princess Celestia. Following her was a dark blue unicorn, with turquoise eyes, and a fuzzy dark purple star on her flank, surrounded by mist. She had a icy light blue mane, with turquoise streaks, and an extremely stubborn expression. "You most be Twilight Sparkle," she said, smirking slightly, "My name's Misty." > Chapter 3 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sorry for not updating this, due to computer problems and writer's block. I'll keep these more frequent :) _________________________________________________________________________________________________ Twilight became slightly stunned at the filly's arrogance, for about a second. Because, a second later the filly shrank down, terrified. "I'm sorry! My mother told me to stop being so annoying, and act civilized, and now since I didn't I'll be shipped back to Canterlot to," Misty's eyes widened from an unseen paranoia, "to Magic Kindergarten." The only sound that could be heard was Spike laughing. Twilight's gulped, "Umm, why don't you come in? We're all waiting for you." What happened next was one of the most chaotic moments in Misty's life. "Surprise!" Pinkie Pie bounced up and down, "I threw you a party! Isn't it going to be fun! We're going to eat cake and milk, and then laugh, and the milk will come out our noses! It's going to be so much fun! Ohmigoshwe'llplayallkindsofgameslikepinthetailonthepony!" "Hey kid," Rainbowdash flew over, "Even if you're not a pegasus, you look cool." "Umm, hi. My name is Fluttershy." "Pardon?" "Fluttershy." "Oh, Darling, what a bea-utiful mane. Now, if you just pinned it up a little here, and then added a pin here, you would look amazing. I have the perfect dress! Oh, terribly sorry, I have't made a proper introduction. My name is Rarity, dear." "Well Howdy, sugarcube. Mah name's Applejack. Mighty pleased to meet yah." Misty looked a little overwhelmed, so Twilight intervened. "Well, let us get started on our history class." Her horn flickered and a large, dusty book flew onto the podium. "A History of Equestria by Sunstar the Careful," Twilight read, "Does anybody know who that was?" A single hoof was in the air. "Misty? Do you know the answer?" "He was the first apprentice of Starswirl the bearded!" "Correct." The lesson went on, with Twilight asking, Misty answering, and Rainbow Dash napping. "Have a nice day, AJ! You too Rarity!" Twilight gave each of her friends a farewell. Soon, it was only Misty, Twilight, and Spike. "So, Twilight said, finally, resting, "Show me what you know about magic. Do some of the exercises you've learned." Twilight was extremely impressed by Misty's level of skill. She was also proud. The Princess had trained her well. Misty finally stopped, exhausted, "That's all I know," she panted, "Did I do well?" "You did awesome," Twilight encouraged, "Now, please read this for practice tomorrow morning." She levitated a dark blue leather-bound book from one of the shelves. Misty's eyes lighted-up with excitement at a new book. "I haven't read this one!" "Excellent!" Twilight opened the back door, to the library extension. "This room is yours. Feel free to read any book you wish to." Misty gasped at the sheer amount of books at her hooves. "Thanks Twilight Sparkle." The door shut and Misty was alone with her books. > Chapter 4 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As the months progressed, Twilight and Misty fell into routine. Every morning Twilight would write a letter to Celestia telling her what she planned to do. Every evening Misty would write to Celestia about what they actually did. The cycle continued. Twilight was amazed by Misty's rapid incline in skills, and as Misty tore through magic and books, Twilight was trying to learn as many skills as possible for teaching. Both of them looked forward to the weekly Equestrian History lesson. The number of attendees had dropped to three. Misty, Twilight, and Spike (who was forced by Twilight.) This week though, three new members came for some cutie-marks. "Cutie Mark Crusader Historians!" "-and so Clover the Clever founded the Equestria Society of Magic. Scootaloo what did I say?" "But I'm not even a unicorn!" "I am!" "Sweetie belle, we know that!" "Don't be jealous because your an Earth pony!" Twilight sighed, "Clover the Clever's most famed student, Constellation Orb, invented the teleportation spell. Misty would you care to demonstrate?" "Sure!" A blue glow surrounded her horn, and, almost instantly, she was transported across the room. "Wow Misty! That was awesome!" "Well, thank you Scootaloo-" "You are so good at magic!" "Well ahl be, Misty, that certainely was some high-filouting magic!" Twilight cleared her throat, "Anyway as I was saying-" "Sorry Twilight, gotta go!" And with that three crusaders raced out the doors. Applebloom's voice faintly penetrated the library doors, "Hey everybody! Misty is the best unicorn ever!" Sweetiebelle's voice also echoed, "Yeah! She is the best at magic!" Twilight felt a small pang in her chest. What the hay was that? I've never felt anything like that before. Misty stared out the window. "I didn't do anything special." A small voice nagged the back of Twilight's head, " Oh yeah? She's freakin' amazing. Better than you Twilight. Everybody knows it too. Nice job, Element of Magic. Twilight shook her head slightly. What was she thinking. "It's fine Misty. It will all blow over. You know how the Crusaders are." Is it? Will it? Does she? "I guess so, Twilight." "Sure it will, I promise" But as she said those words the voice came back, Twilight why are you promising? It might not happen. It's not going to happen. Twilight put her head in her hooves.
