> Vinyl visits her mother > by Bookworm24 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "OH YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!!" Vinyl screamed as she came upon the burnt out shell of what used to be one of her favorite nightclub."What the hay happened?" She asked one of the firefighters. "We think there was a gas leak and somehow it sparked and well you can guess the rest. Thank Celestia the place was empty at the time." He told her. "Ugh. Now what am I going to do?" Vinyl said walking away and scanning the streets in front of her until she stopped and looked at one particular house in front of her. It was almost like fate was telling her 'There. Now you don't have any excuse not to do it.' "*sigh* might as well get it over and done with." She knocked on the door a few times and was greeted by her mother's usual welcome. "IF YOU'RE A SALESPONY I GOT A BUCKET OF ICE WATER RIGHT HERE WITH YOUR NAME ON IT!" Vinyl rolled her eyes. "Mom. Open the door, it's me." Bea Sharp opened the door for her daughter and raised an eyebrow. "Let me guess. You were supposed to have a gig at the place that just burned down but now that you have some free time you decided to finally visit your mother...right?" Vinyl chuckled a little. "You know me like a book." "Of course I do. I'm your mother. I know everything. Now get in here." Vinyl walked into the middle of the living room and looked around. She now realized where she got her untidiness from. Boxes and bags were strewn every which way. A half finished puzzle took up most of the coffee table, a tank containing some goldfish glowed against one wall, collectibles and knick knacks took up nearly every shelf space she could see and a large stack of 'Mare's World' magazines were stacked up in the corner "Mom, what happened? Did a bomb go off?" "Oh I'm so sorry its not the spic and span haven you probably live in." She said sarcastically as she kicked aside a newspaper. She then started poking Vinyl in the side. "You haven't been eating have you?" "Mom I've been eating fine." "Then why can I feel your ribs? Sit down I'll get lunch." She said as she headed for the kitchen "Mom you don't have to do that." "I want to. You think I feel good as I watch you starve? Now sit. I'll be ready soon." "Mom. I'm not starving." Vinyl said as she sat on the sofa. "So, what's new with you?" Bea asked pretending not to hear Vinyl's latest remark. Again fate looked at her and said 'You're going to tell her and you're going to tell her NOW!' Vinyl knew it was now or never and as much as she wished it were never she knew that was never going to be an option. She had put it off for way too long. "I met somepony." She said as a tubfull of butterflies were let loose in her stomach. "Great! Whats his name?" Vinyl's heart was in her throat. This was it. There was no going back now. "Mom come in here please." Bea entered the room using magic to levitate two containers of heated up leftovers and placing them on the coffee table, careful not to disrupt the half completed puzzle as she sat next to Vinyl. She looked at her daughter in confusion "What's wrong? Is he blind or deaf? *gasp* He's not a griffin, is he?" She chuckled at her own joke. "No mom. It's just that....." She let it all come out. "It's not a 'he' its a 'she'. Her name is Octavia. Mom, I'm gay." "..." Vinyl had never been so scared in her life. She had just told her mother she was gay and so far she had said nothing. "Mom, say something." She could feel tears welling up in her eyes. "For Celestia's sake, mom. Say something!" "So...I take it grandfoals are out of the question?" Vinyl wrapped her hooves around her. "I love you mom. Please dont be mad." "Why in all of Equestria would I be mad? Your gay. So what?" She took Vinyl's shades of so she could look her daughter right in the eyes. "I'm your mother. I'm going to love you no matter what. Why did you think I was going to be mad?" "Well you haven't exactly agreed with many of my life choices so...." "Vinyl. I may not agree with how loud your music is or where some of your gigs may take place but I have always and will always love you no matter what. "I love you too mom." Vinyl said as the two hugged for a long time. The rest of the day went by smoothly as Vinyl described Octavia to her mother. "We never would have thought we would have anything in common but after a disastrous food fight during the royal wedding, we sorta just fell in love. Oh she is just so sweet and nice." "How do you get along with somepony who is basically your polar opposite?" Bea asked, finishing her dinner. "We describe it as, she's the stability that keeps my hooves on the ground and I'm the insanity that gives her life purpose." "That sounds like something you would find in a cheap fortune cookie." She said cleaning up the mess and looking out the window. "Wow, look at the time." She then looked at Vinyl. "So am I gonna have to pull out the futon or are you not spending the night?" "Actually I...." "Got a gig tomorrow." Bea finished. "Well before you go hang on a moment." Vinyl stopped at the front door as Bea went into the kitchen for a while and emerged carrying a large brown paper bag by magic. Vinyl took the bag from her mother and peered inside. Vinyl opened the bag and sighed. "Mom I told you, I'm not starving." "Yah well, I have too many leftovers and you need to eat. This is what I call a win/win situation." Vinyl rolled her eyes for what felt like the hundredth time before heading outside. "I'll see you soon mom. Love ya." "Love ya to sweetie. Next time you visit make sure you bring Octavia with you or else i'll hunt you down." "Yes mom" Vinyl said as the door shut behind her. As Vinyl headed home she thought about how this day had turned out. She was so happy that her mom was okay with her loving Octavia. Vinyl just couldn't wait to see Octavia's face when she told her that she came out to her mother. Vinyl prayed to Celestia that Octavia's parents were just as accepting. Vinyl broke into a gallop, so eager to get home and be with the mare she loved so much. The End
