Dark Rainboom
(Rainbow Dash POV)
(Rainbow’s House)
Rainbow flew into her house and slammed the door behind her, even though it was only made of clouds.
Today had so far, not been Rainbow’s day.
“Ahg! I can’t do anything right! All I seem to do is get in my friends’ way and make them mad at me!” Rainbow yelled as she sat down and crossed her arms/legs, eyes welling up with tears.
(Flashbacks)
(Outskirts of Ponyville)
Rainbow was flying around in the sky, perfecting her moves to show the Wonderbolts, “Aw yeah. Now let’s try #24.”
Rainbow got on the ground and into a crouching position. She looked straight ahead, and unfolded her wings, “Here… we… GO!” She blasted off forward.
She saw a tree and reached out for it, getting ready to grab it, “Heh. I’ve done this perfectly so many times, I’ll make it into the Wonderbolts for sure.”
Except Rainbow wasn’t paying attention and missed the tree.
“What the!” Rainbow said looking back, then she looked forward and gasped. She was heading straight for the Castle, “AH!” She couldn’t stop herself from going through the Castle’s window, which happened to lead straight for the library.
Rainbow crashed through the window.
Twilight screamed when Rainbow went flying all over the place, knocking down fragile objects, and knocking down all the books she had organized all weekend, “NO! Rainbow stop!”
“I’m trying!” Rainbow shouted, then she smashed into a wall, “Ow.”
When Rainbow shook her head and turned around, her jaw hit the ground.
The entire library was a total wreck. Books were strewn all over the floor, tables were turned, and glass was shattered on the floor.
But the scariest part was the look on Twilight’s face. Her eye was twitching and she looked like she might lose her mind.
“Ehehe… Oops.” Rainbow said sheepishly.
Then Twilight broke, “OOPS! Rainbow! You made a complete mess of the library! I spent the entire weekend cleaning in here! And now I have to do it all over. AGAIN!”
“Is there anything I can do to fix this?” Rainbow asked nervously.
“Actually yes there is.” Twilight said still angry.
“Really? What?” Rainbow said.
Then she and Twilight teleported outside of the Castle.
“You can stay out of the Castle until I am finished cleaning.” Twilight said. then she walked back inside and shut the door.
Rainbow just stood there and blinked.
(Sweet Apple Acres)
Applejack bucked down the last of the apples from the trees, “Phew. Now that’s what I call a day’s load of work.”
Suddenly a rainbow blur flew by, followed by a strong gust of wind.
Applejack had to hold onto her hat to keep it from flying off.
However, all her baskets of apples had been tipped over, spilling all the apples.
“Aw come on!” Applejack groaned, then she looked up and shouted, “Rainbow Dash!”
Rainbow quickly flew over to Applejack, “What’s up AJ?”
“I’ll tell you what’s up. You’re crazy flying just knocked over all my baskets of apples. I spent all day today and yesterday bucking all those apples off the trees.” Applejack said pointing at all the apples all over the ground, “And now I have to pick them all up! Because of you.”
Rainbow blinked, “Sorry AJ, I didn’t mean to do it.”
“You may have not meant to, but you still did it. Go take your fly and do it somewheres else.” Applejack said as she began picking apples back up into their baskets.
Rainbow frowned and flew off.
(Above Ponyville)
Rainbow was sitting on a puffy cloud. She sighed, “Great, so far I’ve managed to get Twilight and Applejack mad at me.” Then she saw some random clouds, “Hmm… Maybe kicking at some clouds will cheer me up.”
She crouched and then dashed off towards the clouds. She began kicking the clouds away, destroying a few.
However, she stopped when she heard a yelp and scream, “Rainbow Dash! Look at what you have done!”
Rainbow looked down from the cloud she was standing on and saw Rarity, mane and tail soaking wet, and a basket of now soaked dresses she had made.
“You’ve ruined my dresses!” Rarity shouted, “Not to mention my mane.”
“Sorry Rarity, I didn’t see you there.” Rainbow said.
“Now I have to start these dresses all over!” Rarity said, “And I also need to dry myself, all thanks to you.”
Rainbow’s heart ached as her friend yelled at her, and a single tear formed in her eye, “I’m sorry, honestly.”
“Sorry doesn’t fix the problem.” Rarity said as she slammed her door behind her.
Rainbow then began to cry, “What have I done to deserve this?” Then she flew off towards her home.
(End of Flashbacks)
Rainbow’s tears were now falling down her face.
She looked at a photo of all five of her friends and herself, then she laid the picture down on its front.
“Maybe if I go out for a fly where no one else will be disturbed.” Rainbow said, “Yeah, maybe that’ll help me. Or maybe even doing my Sonic Rainboom. That always helps me.”
And with that, Rainbow flew out of her house, and towards the Everfree Forest.
(Above the Everfree Forest)
Rainbow flew above the Everfree Forest, quietly hovering. After a while, she decided she wanted to do her Sonic Rainboom. She began to fly up high, but as she was, she began remembering why she was doing all this.
‘It’s all your fault!’ ‘Go take your crazy flying somewhere else.’ ‘You’ve ruined it all!’ She heard inside her head.
When she reached max height, she then blasted downward, but she kept hearing the voices of her friends yelling at her.
‘You can stay out!’ ‘Now I have to start all over!’ ‘And it’s all your fault!’
Rainbow felt tears of sadness well up in her eyes, but she also felt something else… Rage and anger. She had said sorry to her friends, and they still yelled at her. That wasn’t fair to her.
Rainbow began to enter the sound barrier, but didn’t notice it was also sparking with dark blue energy at the tip.
They never should have yelled at her like they had. She even offered help, and all they did was yell at her.
Then Rainbow felt pure anger boil in her, “IT’S NOT FAIR!” Then she broke the sound barrier, creating a Sonic Rainboom.
Rainbow then noticed she wasn’t slowing down as she flew down towards the ground, but she didn’t care, ‘They won’t miss me anyways. They’ll have one less mess to clean up after me.’
Rainbow closed her eyes and shut them tight as tears escaped them.
(Twilight POV)
(Castle of Friendship)
Twilight finally finished putting the books back on their shelves, “Phew. That took less time than the first time.”
Suddenly there was a loud boom and the ground shook violently.
“Whoa!” Twilight shouted as she was knocked off her feet. When the shaking stopped, she groan, “Rainbow Dash.”
She walked outside, “Ok what do you think you are… doing… Rainbow.” She said as she saw the Sonic Rainboom. But that it not what she was staring at.
Where the Rainboom expanded from, a giant mushroom cloud could be seen rising from the Everfree Forest.
“Oh no. Rainbow Dash!” Twilight shouted as she flew off towards the cloud.
(Everfree Forest)
(Group POV)
Twilight ran through the thick forest.
Then she saw Zecora and her friends, standing at the edge of a large crater.
Everyone was in tears though.
They all saw Twilight and looked down in sadness.
Twilight’s eyes widened in horror, “Oh no.” She ran over to the edge of the crater and gasped at what was in it.
Rainbow’s body was all bloodied up and covered in cuts and bruises. And she wasn’t moving.
Twilight jumped down into the crater and ran over to her friend.
But when she checked her pulse, she couldn’t feel anything.
“No… NO!” Twilight screamed, tears in her eyes.
The others gasped.
Fluttershy, Pinkie, and Rarity began pouring waterfalls of tears; Applejack held it in slightly, but still cried as she pulled down her hat over her eyes.
(5 Days Later)
Twilight entered the Castle of Friendship, and looked at the others sitting in their thrones, all but one.
Rainbow Dash’s chair has been empty for five days now.
“It’s all our fault.” Twilight said.
“We didn’t treat her like true friends should have.” Applejack said.
“Instead, we treated her like monsters.” Rarity said.
“And now she’s gone forever.” Fluttershy said.
And the castle fell silent, and as time went on, so did Ponyville.
Life was never the same without Rainbow Dash.
