> Sonata of Sorrow > by RNBW > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Sonata of Sorrow > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The night was quiet, peaceful. Extremely peaceful to be exact. Beautiful stars were amongst the ocean of blackness that engulfed the city of Canterlot as the bright moon lessened the inky blackness of the night. Rainbow's chest rose and fell in a steady rhythm. Serenity was plastered across her face as she slept peacefully in her bed, her lips were formed into a content smile. She shifted to a more comfortable position and pulled a pillow close to her. Rainbow Dash was clad in her sleepwear which consisted of a simple white T shirt and dark grey sweatpants with a white drawstring. However, a knock interrupted her slumber. It was a faint sound, but then there was another knock, louder than the previous one. Letting out a groan, Rainbow opened her eyes slowly and sat up in the bed, stretching out her arms. She leaned forward, listening to the sound that disturbed her slumber. Definitely it was knocking and from the sound of it, it was coming from the front door of her house. Someone was outside. Rainbow glanced at her clock with a half asleep look. "It's almost four in the morning." With a loud yawn, Rainbow climbed off the bed and slid her feet into her slippers. She walked up towards the door and with her right hand on the door knob, she opened the door. "Whoever is at the door, better have a good reason for being here," Rainbow murmured as she walked down the steps. Rainbow reached the bottom of the staircase and made her way towards the door. The knocking continued until she opened the door. "Alright, alright, you can stop now. Do you have any idea what ti-" but before she could continue, Rainbow's eyes widened when she saw who was standing in the doorway. The person was female, about the same age as Rainbow. She had long blue hair, with blue streaks and a light blue skin. She was wearing a purple sweatshirt hoodie with blue jeans and purple shoes. It was one of the Sirens, Sonata Dusk. The look in the Siren's eyes caught Rainbow's attention. Her eyes were dull and filled with a sorrow. Deep, great sorrow. They just stood, staring at each other for a few moments, time seeming to freeze in that moment. The moment was broken when Sonata pulled her into a tight hug. Rainbow Dash was clearly taken aback by this action. Just then, Sonata began to sob as she buried her face into Rainbow's shoulder, her body shaking with each sob. Rainbow Dash was stunned at the sudden reaction of Sonata, yet a small frown crept across her face. Quietly and carefully, she took Sonata's hands into hers and led her inside before closing the door. She didn't know what was going on, but she did know something was off about Sonata. But why she wasn’t with the other two Sirens? Many questions raced through her mind. "What are you doing here?" Rainbow asked. It wasn't a demand, but a question filled with curiosity and concern. The blue siren looked at her with bloodshot eyes. She gulped several times, clearly trying to get a hold of herself. Sonata was able to answer her question. "Adagio and Aria. T-They blamed me for w-what happened a-at the Battle of the Bands and t-then they said I was useless and..." Sonata didn't finish. Instead, she cupped her face with her hands, crying harder. Rainbow said nothing, deciding to not question her more. She could tell that they did something awful with the siren. "Hey, uh..." "I'm sorry!" She was cut off by Sonata as the blue siren got uncomfortably close to her face. "I'm so sorry of what happened in the Battle of the Bands!" "Hey, hold up," "I only wanted to be with them!" Sonata continued. "I thought they were like sisters to me, but I soon realized, they didn't care if something happened to me! They only care about themselves! They're horrible to me! They are nothing but big... meanies!!" This time Sonata Dusk began to cry harder than before. Her sobs were now audible as more tears cascaded down her face. Suddenly, Sonata stopped crying. Rainbow uncharastically had wrapped her arms around the sobbing form in a comforting embrace, trying to calm her down. She lifted her hand and gently rubbed her shoulder. They stayed in that embrace for a few seconds until she gently pulled away from the hug. "You know something? You aren't like them," Rainbow softly said. Sonata Dusk looked at Rainbow in confusion. "W-What do y-you mean?" Rainbow rubbed the back of her neck. "Where do I begin... Well, you don't seem to be evil anymore. Also, it seems you never were a villain in the first place. That was all in the past, right? Besides, Sunset had the same journey as you." Sonata thought about what Rainbow said, wiping the tears from her eyes. Rainbow Dash let out a sigh, then she put her hand on Sonata's shoulder. "What I am trying to say is if Sunset changed, you can change too." Sonata carefully lifted her head, sniffling. "B-But what about the others?" "Oh, right..." Rainbow put her hand under her chin and began to think. She knew she and Pinkie Pie would get along very well. Knowing how kind Fluttershy is, she wouldn't mind at all to become friends with her. The same can be said for Sunset Shimmer, as she said before, Sunset had the same journey as Sonata. Rarity would likely give her own fashion advice to Sonata and take her to the spa. Applejack although friendly and level headed, she can be firm, outspoken and frank when it comes to villains. It could take some time for Applejack to accept the fact that Sonata reformed. Granted, if Rainbow hadn’t hear of Sonata’s dilemma, she could have sided with AJ. With Twilight Sparkle it would be quite beneficial for both. Ever since the Friendship Games, Twilight has been learning the Magic of Friendship. If she becomes friends with Sonata, it's gonna be a big step for her. The Shadowbolts wouldn't mind to become friends with Sonata. Besides the fact that they started to spend more time together with friendship forming between them. 'A near perfect victory,' she thought, sighing a bit. AJ is the only obstacle of this issue. "So, c-can I s-stay here?" Sonata asked with hope in her voice. "I mean, it's okay if you don't want me in your house." At that moment, a warm smile crept across Rainbow's face. "I don't see why not," she said, shrugging her shoulders. Sonata gasped with tears in her eyes. However, those tears were of happiness. "For realizes?" she asked again. Rainbow Dash stayed silent for a moment before giving her an affirmative nod. Sonata Dusk found herself crying tears of joy and wrapped her arms around Rainbow. "Thank you! Thank you so much!" Sonata exclaimed with a teary smile. Rainbow smiled at her and gently patted her on the shoulder. "No problemo. You can stay here as long as you need to." "You have no idea how much this means to me. I mean, without a home..." Sonata trailed off, then let out a sad sigh. "N-Nevermind." Rainbow nodded her head in understanding and then let out a soft yawn. "You know, It's getting late. Where are you going to sleep?" Sonata let out a soft yawn too. "I'll just sleep on the couch. I don't want to bother you." Rainbow shook her head. "You're not a bother. But if you want to sleep on the couch, it's okay." "Umm, alright," Sonata said with another yawn. "Hold up, I'll bring you a blanket and a pillow," Rainbow Dash said before going upstairs, but then she looked back at her. "Oh, yeah... I forgot to ask your name. What is it?" "My name's Sonata Dusk," she replied with a soft smile. "What about you?" She gave her a soft, cocky smirk. "I'm Rainbow Dash." A few moments later, Rainbow Dash returned with a thick blanket and a soft pillow and handed it to Sonata in which she gladly accepted. She plopped down on the couch with a sigh of relief, let out another yawn as she laid her head on the pillow and wrapped herself up. "Thank you and goodnight, Rainbow," "'Night, Sonata," Rainbow replied and headed back to her bedroom. Once she arrived at her bedroom, she pulled out her cellphone from the drawer and began to text a message to the rest of the Rainbooms. Guys, tomorrow I gonna bring some good news. I hope you don't mind - RD As she laid down on her bed, Rainbow's eyes and eyebrows felt heavy. With a final yawn, she peacefully drifted off to sleep.
