> Lady Rarity > by Aegis Steelshield > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Introductions > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 1 The story begins, as so many others, on a dark, stormy night... Outside the Prancing Pony, it was raining cats and dogs. Inside was hardly better. Cold, damp and the roof was leaking. Drip. Drip. Drip It was perfect for what he wanted to do, perfect for hunting his prey. There, it had arrived. The thing had a mare with it. Luna damn it, she looked young. He hoped that they would put her to sleep first. She shouldn't have to see what was about to happen. No one should. It talked to the inn keeper, before it moved closer to the hunter. It was close enough that he could hear the mare's panicked breathing. He didn't know how much she knew, but he hoped it was enough to know not to run. Some time had passed before the thing led the whimpering mare away. The hunter followed, mentally preparing himself for what he knew was to come. He almost walked into the other vampires before he saw them. He peered out around the corner, seeing the mare surrounded by no less than five of the damned things. Her terrified expression tugged at his heart strings. "He comes tonight, brothers. It is best we hurry," the one he had tracked whispered. "Let him come, brother," said the unicorn opening the door, "We will take him as one," It turned it's head to the mare before continuing, "Into the room, young one, or we will make this as painful as possible." Animals, the whole lot. They left one of their number outside to guard the door. The hunter silently counted to ten before rounding the corner, stumbling like a drunk in his travel cloak. "Celestiadamned guards, -hic-, wouldn't know fun if'n, -hic-, if'n it bit 'em on thar arse..." He stumbled a bit more before collapsing onto the ground near it's hooves. It leaned over him, as if pondering an after school snack. It realized it's mistake as the hunter shoved his hidden silver dagger through it's chest, and into it's heart. He leaned against the door, and that was when he heard the mare wail. "Please, somepony help me!!!" He smashed open the door in an instant, and saw the mare being forced down on the cheap bed. He counted six right away, and tossed his first knife into the closest. The vampire turned to dust, and the knife passed into the one next to it. The rest roared, furious at the hunter's interruption, and the mare shrieked again. A pegasus he hadn't seen before tried to tackle him from above. They wrestled briefly before the hunter snapped it's wing, and drove his second knife into it's throat. "Who's next?" The hunter taunted. He lived for these moments, the thrill of the fight, the rush of the hunt, the snapping of bones... His thoughts were interrupted by an earth pony's charge. The hunter felt his wings spread under his cloak before he took to the skies. He landed behind it, and with a flick of his hooves, only three were left. He laughed a bit as the other two earth ponies charged. Once again in the air, he watched them crash into each other. He threw a vial of water blessed by Luna herself at them. Pity their screams only lasted a few seconds. "Take the mare and leave, hunter," the unicorn hissed, "And we will not pursue vengeance for this... Slight against our kind." "Your kind? Your kind! Tell me, what of the mare's kind? You feed on us. You kill us, rape us, infect us!" Despite his clear anger, only now was his voice raising in volume, "You tear children from their mothers! You tear wives from their husbands! You rip ponies, young and old alike, to shreds! The punishment for this is death!" He slowly, calmly, pulled an amulet of the crescent moon out from beneath his cloak, "In Luna's name, I bid thee! I command thee! Speak only the truth! TELL! ME! YOUR! CRIMES!" As he reached his crescendo, the monster hissed and flinched away from the necklace, "I've murdered them!" It screamed, "Women and children alike! I've tortured and raped! I've drained their blood and enjoyed every second of their pain!" It fell to it's knees. "And now I will burn for all of it..." "May Luna have mercy on your soul." The Hunter spat out. With one last twist of his blade, the unicorn was destroyed. Then the hunter turned his eyes to the mare. She was stunning, beautiful really. Her snow white fur, her meticulously styled mane and tail, her eyes as blue as sapphires... Can we move it along now Sorry, I got carried away... The mare found the strength to look her savior in his eyes, "Th-thank you so much..." And then she passed out. > Sanctuary > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 2 Now our hero, a famed hunter of vampires has brought the fair lady to his sanctuary... With a groan, the hunter awoke and took stoke of his surroundings. He had slept on the floor, give his bed to the traumatized mare. He nosed open the door to his room, and observed her sleeping form. It was... cute, the way her chest rose and fell. He closed the door, softly, and turned away. He wondered if he'd ever stop being amazed at the beauty of this place. He could only imagine what it was like in it's prime. He, like always, payed special attention to the portrait of Luna, his patron goddess. He snapped out of his momentary reprieve, and went to collect water for when the mare awoke. As he returned, he heard the groans of one not yet ready to awaken. "Are you alright?" He asked as he gave her the water, "No cuts or scrapes? Or, Luna forbid, bites?" "I... I'm fine. Where are we? Are... are you going to hurt me?" She responded as she greedily drank the water. "We're inside an abandoned church of Luna. And don't worry, I will not hurt you." "A church? Comment suis-je en vie?" We don't all speak fancy. She said, "How am I alive?" You... speak french? Duh! Now hurry, the readers are getting bored~ "Yes, I brought you hear so you'd be safe," the hunter bowed, "I am Aegis, and I am pleased to meet you Miss..." "Rarity. My name is Rarity." Really? "How is this place safe?" The mare inquired, "Can those... things not enter it?" "They can, but will not. They believe that Luna would strike them down, and condemn their souls to Tartarus. It's likely she would." A few moments passed before the mare looked into her savior's eyes, "We should discuss... things. You have risked your life for me, and I will not have you go unrewarded.But..." She brought her face close to his, "I have naught to offer. Except..." Their lips briefly touched, "My body..." She whispered into his ear. You go girl! Aegis's mouth watered as he looked the mare over. She was quite beautiful, and was certainly willing. He sat still as she reached down. Her breath smelled of lavenders and... As much as you love romance, is this really nessicary? Can't you just say they did it and move along? Fine, they "did it." Moving along. Aegis collected himself and climbed out of bed, intending to make Rarity breakfast before sending her home. To his amazement, a lavender and daisy sandwich was already on his table. "I know breath may not be an issue in your line of work, but it's important to me." The white mare whispered into his ear. He took a bite before saying, "Where do you live? Any family looking for you?" The sorrow on her face made him regret asking, and as their eyes met, she started to cry. "The-they tried to protect me... Those... Those things killed them! They..." She sniffled, "They gave my little sister the worst. They... raped her." Her voice turned cold, "They deserved to die. Thank you." "Do you know if any got away?" "I... I think one or two might of left. They said something about a mountain... And about a temple." Aegis finished his sandwich, and thought it over. He did have some allies, maybe they'd- "Please don't send me away..." He was assaulted by an incredibly sad puppy dog face, "I feel... safe here. And I can cook, clean, and do other things... "She said twisting her hips, "Just... let me stay. Please." The hunter thought it over. She would be safe here, and the pantry did have enough for two. And the days would be less lonely. "I will consider it, and give you an answer when I return. But for now, what did they say about this mountain temple?" "They were returning to their leader... I think they said dragon mountain." "Then I must be off. There is running water, and food in the pantry." "Where are you going?" She asked, a hint of worry in her voice. "Mountain climbing." And with that, he left. > Mountain Climbing > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 3 And so our hero, the hunter, Aegis Steelshield, left his sanctuary to avenge Lady Rarity's family. The cold was hell on his hooves. He had needed them uncovered so that he could climb, but still wished he had been able to bring socks. At least his magic cloak kept him warm. His thoughts went to earlier that day, back in Ponyville... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- He had entered the small town when the sun was in it's zenith- Don't speak fancy. She means it was noon. -and the first thing he noticed was that the market wasn't as busy as normal. He supposed that with the storm the previous night, others might stay indoors to avoid the mud, but it still seemed somewhat empty. He sighed as he approached a guard he recognized. "Hello, Lucky Spear. How goes life?" "The same as always, Steelshield. What brings you to town?" Came the guard's gruff response. "I was thinking of going mountain climbing, and needed the supplies. Is the gypsy still here?" "Where else would she be?" As Aegis turned away, the guard stopped him, "You wouldn't happen to know about any missing fillies lately, would you?" 'Damn them to hell', the hunter thought, however, "No, but I'll keep my eyes open for you." was what he said. He walked through town, doubling back several times until he arrived at his destination. His supplier's tent wasn't that hard to miss, if you knew what to look for, but he liked to be safe. He felt the beads pass around him as he entered. To his surprise, a young filly ran up and hugged his leg, crying her eyes out. As he scooped her up in one leg, he whispered, "What's wrong? Has something happened?" "My... my daddy... my daddy was ta-taken... Miss... Miss Glimmer told me to... to tell the next young pegasus who walked in..." He rulfed her mane, "I know it doesn't mean much, but I'll see what I can do, 'kay?" "Tha-thank you..." With that, he put the mare down, and went in deeper to find his co-worker. "Hello Aegis." She said without turning around. "One day I will find out how you do that." He grumbled as he entered, "You know why I'm here, don't you?" "And you know my price." "Yes, I'll help the girl. But now I need-" "On the counter to your left. I hear Dragon Mountain has a view to kill for." "One day, I'll surprise yo-" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aegis was thrown out of his thoughts as his hoof slid on a patch of ice, and fell, his wings useless in the blizzard... He supposed it was a good thing that Glimmer had packed him a grappling hook, and several lines. The rope stopped him after only a few feet. and he climbed back up. He avoided the ice this time. After a while, his thoughts went to the mare in his sanctuary. He wondered what her family was like. He wondered if she had a good life. It was strange how she occupied his thoughts. He had saved others before, but she was the first he hadn't sent away. He got to the top of the line, and shot out another. But he hadn't made her leave, and was even climbing up this mountain to avenge her family. He saw a trail nearby, and went in another direction. They'd be watching those. He knew that Dragon Mountain got it's name from the proud beast that had once made it it's home, and- This is boring, where's the action? That was rude, now shut up. The hunter stopped. He could of sworn he heard- There. A crash nearby, somewhere to his right. He shifted, ready for an attack. He tried to see it through the blizzard, missing the magic bolt coming from his left. It flung him like a discarded doll, smashing him face first into a snowy cliff. He landed right on the pegasus he had heard. It had tried to bite him, but couldn't untangle it's self from his cloak and the ropes. The hunter however, had gotten one of his knifes free, and raised it to stab his attacker. Before he could, he felt magic jerk the safety rope. He landed on his face, and blindly searched for his now lost knife. He felt something get stuck in the leather covering his back, and went still as an illusion took hold. "That was to easy, brother," the now visible unicorn mare said, "He was suppose to be nigh unkillable." "Well sister, he sure looks dead to me. Go find a stick so we can poke him," Yelled the pegasus over the storm. He felt the mare's leg bump up against his side, before she said, "I have a better idea." He noticed that despite how softly she talked, he could still hear her. Must be magic. His thoughts were cut off as he found out her plan. He spasmed as electricity flew though his body, and he gasped at the shock of it. He leg shot out, kicking her in the ribs. He reached for the knife from his back, dispelling the cloak's deathly illusion. To his surprise, the mare still had it. The pegasus tackled him from the side, and they wrestled. The hunter broke its nose before moving to snap the neck. "Wait! Don't kill him!" The mare shouted in panic, "We're not monsters!" "We-we're normal ponies, please... They have our parents!" Aegis paused, "Show me your teeth. Now, both of you." He saw they were indeed not vampires, but instead rather sloppy and amateur assassins. He laughed as he briefly considered killing them. After all, they did just attack him. But, on the other hoof, it was his duty to help those harmed by vampires. "Please..." He realized that he was choking the pegasus as he thought. "I'll fuck you, just let him go!" What is it with you and sex? "Leave, the both of you. Do not return. If your parents yet live, I will retrieve them, and bring them safely to Ponyville." "Tha-thank you sir..." The mare went to her brother, before turning to Aegis. "We're Pineapple and Cupcake Cake. Our parents are both light brown with darker hair." As she took off with her brother, Aegis planned a jailbreak. It was another thirty minutes before he realized she had stolen his knife. > Jailbreak > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- My apologies for the delay. I, um, I got lost looking for the bathroom in the dark. Now the hunter had entered the lair of the evil vampires... The Hunter hugged his body to the wall as a patrol went by. As the last passed, he discretely grabbed it's set of keys, and snuck down the hall towards the dungeon. The door wasn't well oiled, and started to creak. Seconds passed as he waited for a shout. When nothing happened, he opened the door and walked right into the trap. He lept over the first to charge, and landed behind the second of three, before flicking his remaining knife into the third. "Just as good as the stories said," the first hissed, "But you will sururk-" The word was cut off by a thrown knife, and Steelshield charged the second. The second, an unicorn, teleported behind him, and the hunter lashed out with a kick. One satisfying thump and crack later, he had crushed the third vertebrae. He retrieved his knife before ending it's wretched life. Reaching for the stolen keys, he looked to the prisoners, "Are any of you Guardponies?" Lucky Spear stepped forward, and started, "Steelshield? Wha-what are you doing here?" "I'm rescuing the missing fillies, colts, and other assorted cattle. I assume you tried the same?" Lucky nodded, "I brought down a few before they overwhelmed me." With a click, the gate opened, and the prisoners shifted nervously. "Take this knife, and defend them. Don't be afraid to kill these monsters, they are not ponies." "But what about you?" "I always carry two." But the assassins... That's about to be important. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Aegis sighed in relief as he watched them leave. He knew his job just got harder since he was now unarmed, but he was happy that they would be spared a life as slaves to the vampires. Nopony deserved that. He sent a warm smile and kind words to the assassins' parents, but didn't tell them everything. He slipped back into the shadows as guards approached. "This way! I can smell them!" The hunter smashed into the earth pony's side, sending it into a wall. He was flung to the side as a magic bolt slammed into him, and was back up in a second. The unicorn was swinging a sword, but the hunter tossed something at it. Expecting a vial of holy water, it recoiled as the stone went into the sword hilt, causing it to fall. With a roll, Aegis had it in hoof, and made short work of the unicorn. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the earth pony charge him again, and ran it through. > Boss Battle > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Having freed the prisoners, our hunter makes his way to the center chamber... The Hunter slipped in to the massive chamber after finishing off the remaining guards. He took a second to look for an ambush, before checking his remaining supplies. 'One grappling bolt... A vial of holy water... Rock... And a stolen sword. This might be hard.' He thought to himself as he stepped out of the shadows. "Approach me, Child of the Night Empress," came a voice from the throne, "Come and meet your death." "I will not be the one to die this night, monster," the Hunter retorted, "Tell me your name." "I am he who walks in the shadows, he who drinks the stars, he who commands the winds... I AM JAGGED BLADE, NIGHT'S BANE!" Geez Rarity... Do you really have to shout? Sorry... As Steelshield approached the throne, he saw the stallion who sat upon it. He had a pale blue coat and looked older, with a graying beard to match his flowing silver hair. On his flank there where two serrated daggers crossed over a small buckler. One of his wings was covered in scars. "Night's Bane, huh? Let's see how you deal with the Night's Blade!" With that, Steelshield threw himself at the vampire lord. Jagged Blade was quick to roll out of the way of Steelshield's sword strike, before drawing his own blades and launching himself into the air. An instant later, the Hunter joined him. They passed each other several times, aiming their strikes at the other's wings. Time and again, they missed their target, before Jagged Blade threw one of his daggers. It served as the distraction he needed to stab his other blade into the sensitive flesh below the base of the wing. As he fell to the floor, Steelshield let out a death rattle. Seconds passed as Jagged Blade hovered twenty feet in the air. "I refuse to fall for that simple illusion." "It was worth a try," said the Hunter climbed to his feet, bringing his injured wing to his side, "To be honest, after all this buildup, I'd be ashamed if you did." Jagged Blade lowered himself to the Hunter's level, "Regardless of your illusion, I will fight with honor. Tell me, Night's Blade, how did you learn of this place?" "One of your feeding parties let it slip as I strangled the life out of them." "Lies. The only party we've sent came back with full numbers." What a twist~ "I will not fall for your treachery, monster." "Monster? Monster!? I've done nothing but provide for my kind! You've done nothing but hunt us!" He screamed as he blocked strike after strike from the injured hunter. He smiled as his nose caught a new scent. "You should check your sources," he said with a smirk as he launched a quick strike at Steelshield's injured side. Steelshield moved to block it, and was too slow. The blade carved a new wound above the wing, and Steelshield dropped his sword. An instant later, a dagger was held to his throat. "Your blood will taste delicious. It's been too long since I've feed on one of her hunters." "And it will be a while yet." Steelshield winced as he chucked the stone at the vampire's face, using the distraction to look for anything useful. Seeing something above them, he readied his body for the counter attack, their blades clanging together. That doesn't work. Excuse me? Blocking a blade doesn't work like that. Blade on blade does nothing but damage the sword, and is hard to pull off. But it certainly makes for good theatrics, no? Steelshield put everything he had into his strikes, forcing the lord back. Sensing it was time, he deflected a quick strike, before reaching into his cloak. Expecting a stone, Jagged Blade moved to deflect it. The vial shattered with a hiss, and the vampire screamed as it's flesh burned. There was a clang from above as the failed assassin destroyed the chain attaching the chandelier to the ceiling above them. Steelshield rolled out of the way as the vampire was crushed. A few tense seconds passed as they waited to see if the beast would rise again. Seeing that it wouldn't, Steelshield approached the broken and twitching body, pulling his amulet into view. "You... You've been played for a fool, mortal. We were both pawns..." The dying thing coughed up a bit of blood, "You're nothing but a puppet..." "Burn for your sins, monster." The amulet glowed briefly as the vampire turned to ash, and Steelshield turned to Pineapple Cake, "You should of went to the town." They heard commotion coming from the next room, before a small unicorn entered the room, "Another three guards down brother. We must go." Pineapple turned to his sister, "Just a moment, Cupcake. He's hurt." "It's not that bad," he grumbled, agitation on his voice, "We need to leave before more arrive. Now." Steelshield had made only a few steps before the adrenaline from the fight wore off, and he was overcome by pain. > Hallucinations > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our hunter awakens to find himself in a place between life and death... The clouds parted, revealing a full moon against the backdrop of five multicolored nebulae. Steelshield fell to one knee as an indigo mare landed next to him. "Hello Princess Luna." "Hello my hunter. Do you know why you are here?" "I've failed. I died, didn't I?" He can't be dead! It's just getting good! Her voice is like velvet as she speaks, "No, my hunter. You are... Merely injured. You will live to fight another day. "What concerns me more is the mare you've given sanctuary to." "Her name is Rarity, your Highness." "Yes... Rarity." Her voice has taken a strange tone. "She is a..." Her words fail her for a moment, "She is more than she appears, Hunter. Be careful with her. Powerful enemies lie in your futures." "Thank you for your concern Princess, but you chose me for my ability in a fight. I can handle them." "Your bravado has served you well in the past Aegis... But if you are not careful, it will be the end of you. The enemies you must face are more powerful than any you've fought before. They make the mountains shake in fear, the oceans tremble. They are more powerful than you could possibly imagine. Be mindful of where you tread. I cannot always be there to protect you. "I ask you Aegis... Will you be careful? He bows, "Yes, my Princess... I will be careful. I promise." She smiles down on him, "You have served me well Aegis, and I will never forget that. May fortune smile on you." "And may it smile on you as well."
