Lightning Blitz moves to ponyvile and starts hanging out with a rainbow maned pony.
They say good things can be found at the end of a rainbow. I just happened to he hit in the face by one. Turns out it was a pretty cool rainbow colored pony. She shows me around and we start hanging out and stuff. Next thing we know we're friends and maybe a little more...
It's a fresh new day of a fresh new week. But today is the day I move from my home in Canterlot. I take a last long look at my old house and for whatever reason I look in the mirror. The same old white fur coat. Those sky blue eyes. And of course that golden blonde mane. I was definitely ready to move to my new home in Ponyville. It should be great. I heard a lot of great stuff about that place. Like the fact that there are very friendly ponies there. Not that Canterlot isn't friendly or anything.
I've already visited the place a few times before. It seemed like a nice place so I decided to move there. Nothing more to it. I also know about Princess Twilight and her friends there. Who knows? Maybe I'll meet them...
I quickly go and catch a train. Better not miss it. Last time I missed it, I had to fly there. That wouldn't be too much of a problem if I didn't have all my stuff to bring with me. Thankfully I make it there just in time. I get on the train and so the not-so long journey begins. I just stare out the window watching everything pass by. I sure am going to miss my friends but I'll probably make some new ones.
Some Time Later...
Well, here I am. Watch out Ponyville, there's a new pegasus in town. Or village. I'm still not sure. Anyway, there's a new peagasus around and his name is Lightning. I leave the train station and head to my new house. When I get there, I decide whether I should start unpacking or look around first. The smarter choice would probably be to unpack but since I'm a lazy ass creature and a HUGE procrastinator, I decide to look around first. I first head to Town Square. Huh maybe it is a town. Anyway, when I get there I just look around, taking in the sights.
"LOOK OUT!" Wait who said that? I look around, trying to figure out where that raspy sounding voice came from. Apparently the first way my head turns is where it came because all I can see is a blur flying straight at me. I don't even have time to react before impact. Next thing I know, I'm on my back trying to make the world stop spinning.
When my vision is clear again, all I can see is a pair of beautiful magenta eyes staring at me.
"Uh, sorry bout that..." There's that voice again. I kinda like it. "It's okay. I didn't react fast enough."
"Well I didn't really give you enough reaction time... Hey I don't think I've seen you around before. Are you knew?"
Wow. She seems pretty excited. "Yeah. I just moved here today."
"Maybe I could show you around? Or introduce you to my friends?"
"Sure. Why not?"
"Cool. My name's Rainbow Dash, by the way."
"Lightning." I reply.
"Well it's nice to meet you Lightning. You ready?"
"Yeah I guess so..." I mean it's not like I've got anything else to do. She decides to start by showing the different places to go. We're heading to someplace called Sugar Cube Corner or something when a pink pony comes hopping in our direction. "Hey Dashie! Hey..." She gasps when she looks at me and just like that, shes GONE! I look around, slightly confused. "Uh..."
"That was strange. Even for Pinkie. Unless..."
"Unless what?"
"Never mind. Let's keep going."
That was kind of weird. Oh well. I'll find out later. We continue to head over to Sugar Cube Corner. Apparently it's a bakery and that Pinkie pony lives here. Or at least that's what I'm told. After a light snack we head over to Sweet Apple Acres. "It's an orchard. The Apple Family lives there."
"Cool." We walk in silence for awhile. "Hey I got an idea!" She randomly blurts out of nowhere. "It's over that way." She points with her hoof. "How about a little race?"
"You're on!" I feel like I might have said that a LITTLE to soon.
"Alright! Ready? 1, 2, 3 GO!" Did she really just pull something I would do?
We both take off flying in the direction she pointed. She's pretty fast. Maybe too fast. But I start to catch up. The farm starts to come in sight. I'm catching up to her. Ever so slowly. Inch by inch. But she won by THAT much.
"Wow, you're pretty fast! Maybe just MAYBE faster than me. Just maybe though." I chuckle at this. "Hey AJ!" she says to a pony walking up to us. She is an orange mare with a blonde mane, similar in color to mine. She has some freckles and wears a stetson hat. She also has green eyes.
"Hey Dash!" She says in a country accent. "Who's yer friend here?"
"This is Lightning."
"Well pleased to meet ya Lightning. My name's Applejack." She holds out here hoof.
"Nice to meet you to." I reply, shaking her hoof.
"So where ya from?"
"I'm from Canterlot."
"Well that's nice. I reckon Twilight's from Canterlot to."
"That's cool."
"Well it was nice meeting you but I got some work to do on the farm."
"Alright. See you around I guess."
"Yup." Then she goes back to the farm. It's pretty big I guess. Considering the fact I haven't seen a lot of farms.
"So uh, where to next?" I ask turning to Dash. Wow, I already have a nickname for her. Things are accelerating pretty fast.
"Maybe the Carousel Boutique?" She asks while we start walking along.
"Wait, Isn't that owned by the same pony who opened the Canterlot Carousel?"
"Sure is! Rarity's one of my best friends!" Huh. So we got a fashion designer. I never really got along with those. It'll be interesting to see how this goes...
We arrive there a bit later. We walk up to the door and Dash knocks on it. "Come in!" A voice sings from inside. It's actually a pretty soothing voice. And that accent. Wow. That's all I can say.
"Hey Rarity!"
"Hello Rainbow Dash! Who's your friend?"
"My name's Lightning. Nice to meet you." She seems like a really nice pony. Her white coat, her purple mane, he blue eyes. And of course that voice. Not like some of the other snobby fashion designers that I've met. All they did was help me create a stereotype.
"So, where are you from, darling?" Wait, what she just call me? This makes me blush slightly, hopefully unnoticeable.
"Canterlot."
"Ooh! Have you by chance ever heard of the Canterlot Carousel?"
"Yeah. It's pretty cool. Well, I haven't really been there but I heard from some friends that it's a nice place."
"Well thanks for the feedback. Well of your friends."
"Yeah, well it was nice meeting you and I'll see you around."
"Definitely." She kind of chuckles when she says that.
Me and Dash head back out. "So Twilight's pretty busy right now doing princess business so you won't be able to meet her right now."
"Well that's okay I guess. She is a princess after all."
"Yeah. But there is one more pony we can meet. Her name is Fluttershy. She's a bit shy though. She lives in a cottage."
"Cool." I follow her to where the cottage is. There are quite a few animals around. Rainbow Dash goes up and knocks on the door. "Hello?" Asks a soft voice from inside. The door opens and behind it is a yellow pegasus. She has a long pink mane and tail.
"Oh, hello Rainbow Dash." When her blue eyes look my way, she kinda stops talking and seems a little nervous. Rainbow did mention that she was shy but wow. I was not expecting THIS.
"It's ok Fluttershy. Lightning here is a friend." This seems to have calmed her a little.
"Oh, well hello Lightning. I'm Fluttershy."
"Hello." We kind of stand there a little awkwardly until a little bunny comes and starts to tug at her tail.
"Sorry but I guess it's time to feed Angel."
"Okay. See you around."
"Bye." She goes back in and Dash and I had back.
"So I assume you know your way back home right?"
"Of course!"
"Well, see you around." She completely startles me with a quick hug before taking off. I head back to my house. It's actually getting pretty late. That doesn't matter since I'm just about through the door...
I open the door and walk in to the unlit living room.
"SURPRISE!"
"GAH!" Wait were did all these ponies come from? It looks like ALL of Ponyville is in my house. Except that's not possible. Also the 6 ponies I met are earlier are here. Wait, SIX? I thought I met... yeah it was five. So why do I recognize the 6th one? Wait... could it be? I start to walk over to them when that pink pony pops up out of nowhere.
"Slow down. Please! Can you try saying that again but one word at a time?" Come on, I'd like to use the spacebar...
"Okie dokie lokie! So I saw you early and I knew you were knew. That's why I made this surprise party just for you!"
"Wait, you planned all of this on ONE DAY?"
"Yep it wasn't THAT hard. So are you surprised?"
"Yeah. Definitely."
"Yay! Well have fun!" She gives me a hug before leaving. Okay... now where was I? Oh yeah. Heading over to those ponies I met earlier. I swear I know that alicorn. Except I don't know any alicorns. She looks like an old friend of mine, from Canterlot. Her name was Twilight Sparkle. She was a purple unicorn with a flat mane. It was purple with a light purple highlight.
"Hey Lightning!" All of my new friends speak at once.
"Hey." I respond. "So uh, who's this?" I ask, obviously talking about the only pony there who I don't yet might know.
"This is princess Twilight Sparkle." Says Dash.
"But you can just call me Twilight." She says pretty quickly. I guess she's not used to being referred to as "princess."
"Well hello Twilight. Have we ever met before?" I had to ask. I just couldn't handle it anymore.
"Uhm, maybe? You're from Canterlot, right?"
"Yeah. I believe we went to the same school."
"Oh yeah! We were lab partners. You're pretty smart."
"Thanks!" That was a pretty nice compliment I guess. "So, you're an alicorn now, huh?"
"Yeah..." She kinda blushes when she says that. Maybe she doesn't want to talk about it?
"Well, nice catching up with you."
"Yeah. Have fun!" With that I head over to the snacks. Of course I do. Food is the best part about anything. I grab some cupcakes, which are AMAZING by the way. Then I spot Rainbow talking with... Pinkie, right? Anyway, Rainbow is nervously speaking and Pinkie has this HUGE smile on her face. She looks like she's about to walk in my direction when Rainbow stop her. She talks a little more when Pinkie nods and does this thing with her hooves. She crosses her heart and flaps her hooves like wings. Then she covers her eye with a smile. That was kind of weird but I decide to go back to my snacks.
"Hey Lightning." Woah. I didn't even see Rainbow walk up to me. "You got a minute?"
"Yeah, sure." I don't REALLY have anything to do right now. We head outside to my balcony, right after I grab some cookies. There really isn't anything on the balcony except a hammock. We lay side by side on it. We sit there in silence for a little watching the sunset. It's still warm out and it starts to rain. I don't really mind the rain, I love as a matter of fact. But I don't know about her. "You okay with this rain?" She asks me.
"Yeah. I was about to ask you the same thing."
"I don't mind it. It's still warm out." So we're both cool with it. We sit there a little longer in the rain. I look over at her and see those magenta eyes.
"You have really beautiful eyes." She blushes a little.
"T-Thanks... Wait are you flirting?"
"What? No!" I don't THINK that counts as flirting. Does it? "It was just a compliment!"
"Well, thanks... You too." We kind of just stare at each other. Looking directly into each other's eyes. She leans in closer and I do the same.
"Hi!" Startled, we both fall off on opposite sides of the hammock.
"Pinkie?" Rainbow asks.
"Oh sorry. Was I interrupting something?" I look over to Rainbow and she looks at me. We both shrug.
No, I guess not." I reply.
"Oh, well can I speak to you in private?"
"Sure, I guess." Rainbow walks back in but gives me a little smile.
"Sooooo, hows the party?" I turn to see Pinkie sitting on the hammock. I walk over and sit nexf to her.
"It's great!" I reply.
"Aw, only great?" Oh come on Pinkie.
"Alright then. It's fantastic!"
"A little better. So I see you're becoming GOOOOD friends with Dashie, huh?"
"Yeah, she's pretty cool and... hey now wait a minute." I didn't get it until now. She giggles at my response.
"Admit it you like her."
"Yeah. She wouldn't be my friend if I didn't like her." I joked.
"You know what I mean. You LIKE her like her."
"N-noooo... okay maybe. But you can't TELL her."
"Of course I won't. I Pinkie Promise! Cross my heart hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." She does that hoof thing from earlier. I guess she made a "Pinkie Promise" earlier.
"So uh, does um, Dashie like me to?" I kind of blush when I ask that.
"Why don't you go find out?" She asks with a wink. That's a good question. Why DON'T I? I walk back in and head yo the bathroom. I need to dry off before I do this. Does she like me? There's only one way to find out.
I'm in the bathroom, drying myself off. What am I possibly going to say to her? Does she even like me? I think of any clues. There WAS that conversation she had with Pinkie earlier. She was heading in my direction when Dash stopped her and made her Pinkie Promise. Were they possibly talking about me? I head back downstairs were everypony is at. I look around for Dash. I don't see her anywhere. "Hey Lightning." Her voice startles me. Well, here goes nothing.
"Hey, Dashie." She kind of blushes at this.
"So how was your talk with Pinkie?"
"It was rather interesting..."
"What did she want to talk about?" Uh-oh.
"Well, she asked me about the party..."
"Of course." She chuckles. Well better now than never. I just don't know what to say.
"Sooooo, um..." That gets her attention. Damn what should I say? I'm just gonna have go "wing it." (see what I did there?)
"So, I uh know we just met and all, but I was um thinking that maybe-" She puts her hoof to my mouth. Guess she knew what I was going to say.
"Look, I like you. Really, I do. But I'm not sure I wanna get into a relationship just yet..." Her eyes slowly move to look at the floor. Damn it. I thought I had that at first. But then again, I'm not the best at this. I remember how long it took me to start dating Sunset Shimmer. THAT was unforgettable...
"I completely understand. Maybe we could hang out tomorrow?"
"Yeah, sure. I'd like that. Maybe at Sugar Cube Corner? If you remember where it's at."
"Of course I do," I say with a smirk. "What time?"
"How 'bout noon?"
"Sure. See you then." With that, she gives me a quick kiss on the cheek. Of course this causes me to blush. She walks away giggling. Wait, I thought she- oop. No time for deep thoughts now. Here comes Pinkie.
"So, how'd it go?" I just gonna come straight out.
"She said no."
"What?!"
"But, she'd like to hang out at Sugar Cube Corner tomorrow."
"Oooooh. Guess I'll see you then. I live there you know." Yeah she does. The rest of the night is pretty much less exciting. After the party I go straight to bed. I am SUPER tired after today. I guess looking around was the better choice...
When I wake up, I think about what I'm going to do today. I know I have to meet Dashie at Sugar Cube Corner at noon but that's it. There is one problem though. I'm hungry. While I take my morning shower I think about what I want to eat. There is only one thing I want. Waffles. One problem though. I don't have the ingredients. Oh well, I guess I'll just find a restaurant where I can get some. As I get out of the shower and take care my other personal hygiene, I wonder what downstairs will look like. Will there be a mess? Only one way to find out. I do the usual with my mane. I just wash it and let it dry. I keep it neat and stuff but never do anything special with it. You can't tame the mane.
I walk down the stairs expecting something. When I finally reach the bottom there's... nothing. Oh well. Less mess for me to clean. I head out the door and back into town. I look for somepony who could help me. Strange, there's nopony around. Is it too early? Did I magically become an early bird? Oh wait, there's Rarity. She can probably help me out. "Hey Rarity!" I call out.
"Oh, hey there Lightning! How's it going?"
"Pretty good. You know a great place where I can get some great waffles for breakfast?"
"Yeah! Try the Ponyville Diner. I go there myself. It's a really nice place."
"Cool. Where is it?"
"It's close to Sugar Cube Corner. I can take there if you want..."
"Sure, why not?" I follow her to the diner. It's really not that far away. I wave bye to Rarity and go inside. Not that fancy, which is a plus for me.
"Hey Lightning." I recognize that voice anywhere.
"Sup Dashie?" Judging by that blush, she's still not used to me calling her that. "Well, since we're both here we can sit at the same table, huh?"
"Sure. Why not?" We are shown to our table and the waiter comes soon after. We both get some orange juice because that's like, the best breakfast juice you can get.
"So, uh I wasn't expecting to see you here."
"Neither was I." I reply. When our drinks come we are ready to order. We get the same thing: two waffles and some hash browns. We sit in silence for quite some time.
"So, uh..." I look over to Rainbow, which seems to make her a bit uncomfortable. "Um... about last night... I just wanted to-" She's interrupted by the waiter. Dammit! I know my stomach couldn't have waited any longer but come ON! When he leaves, I look back to Dash. "So, you were saying?"
"Don't worry about it. It... It's not that important..."
"You sure?" I ask with a raised brow. She simply nods in reply. Alrighty then. I guess I'll just, dig in. Let me just say that waffles, BEST I have had in a REALLY long time. Maybe the best I ever had. Who knows...? When we finish I take care of the bill and even leave a tip because that's what everypony should do. I wave bye to Dash and head back home. It's not too long of a walk. I just happen to walk into AJ on the way.
"Hey, AJ!"
"Hey there Lightning!" The rest of the walk is pretty much uneventful. So, now that I'm home, what should I do? I COULD start to unpack my stuff instead of continue to be the lazy ass creature that I am... Yeah I think I'll do just that. Roughly an hour later, I'm just about finished. I have a little time left on my hooves so what now? Hmm... I guess I could look for a job? I do need one to keep living in the house. But where to find one? Wait a sec. What did that sign say on Sugar Cube Corner say yesterday? I can find out later today. I'm pretty much bored right now. I guess I could go for walk or something now.
Some Time Later
I make my way over to Sugar Cube Corner. When I walk in, I see Rainbow Dash talking to Pinkie. They spot me and wave so I wave back.
"So, are you ready?" Asks Rainbow.
"Ready for what?" Wait, I thought we were just gonna like eat here or something.
"For the picnic, silly. Me and Dashie planned it and everything."
"Oh. Then I guess I am ready." Rainbow and I head out. I carry the basket and we walk in silence for a little.
"So uh, hows it going?" I guess she likes the silence just about the same as I do.
"Well, I finally finished unpacking my stuff."
"That's cool, I guess... So uh, about what I said last night..."
"Yeah?" I think back to what she said . It takes me a minute just to remember... Oh, yeah. THAT.
"I'm sorry about that. I kinda regretted saying that afterward."
"It's okay. You didn't say anything harmful or mean or anything like that. I totally understand where your coming from with that."
"Oh, well thanks."
"No problem." We walk a little more until we reach the park. We find a nice hill to put the blanket on. It's a really nice day out. There's a lot a food in the basket. WAY more than what should be able to fit in it. But than again, Pinkie planned this. I take out a sandwich and start eating it. When I'm like, half done, I notice that Rainbow is smiling at me.
"What?" I ask, swallowing the bit of sandwich left in my mouth.
"It's a really nice day out..."
"Yeah."
"I'm just glad I get to spend some time with you."
"Same here, Dashie." I say with a smirk. She starts to blush a little.
"Give me one good reason why I shouldn't tackle you right now."
"Well, I'll probably end up pinning YOU down. Also, I'd like to finish this sandwich, which is AMAZING by the way. You should try one." With that, I go to take another bite, but end up being tackled anyway. We roll down the hill and, like I predicted, I end up pinning her down. Hey, I thought I was pretty convincing.
"Told you so." I say, giving her a nuzzle. I'm about to let her go when she ends up pinning me instead.
"How do YOU like being pinned?" She asks with a smile.
"It's really not that bad. Although, I would really like to have finished that sandwich though. I'm sure the ans are enjoying it now." She chuckles a little and then leans in for a kiss. It's a tender, blissful kiss. Not bad for our first kiss. She pulls away.
"So you gonna let me go now? I'm kinda hungry." I say with a smile.
"Not just yet," she says with a smirk. "We still have plenty of time."
...
"How embarrassing!" I look over to Dash.
"Waft? Vuh brt wr-"
"English please!" She sounds a bit annoyed. What did I do? I balance the basket on my back and try again.
"What? The part where some random pony saw us making out or the fact that you failed to convince her that she was hallucinating?" She started to blush.
"Shut up." If you say so. Sugar Cube Corner starts to come into sight. Except now, it's kind of crowded. We walk in and find Pinkie.
"Oh, hey guys." She says. Then she looks at the basket. "Ooh! You found my basket!"
"Wait wuh?" Okay, I'm confused. Didn't she help Rainbow plan this whole thing?
"Yeah, we found it at the park came to return it to you. There's still some food in it." I am completely lost. I look at Rainbow, confused about what she just said. Then Pinkie speaks up.
"Wanna go upstairs and talk about it?"
"Sure." We head upstairs to Pinkie's room.
"So, how'd it go?"
"It was alright." Rainbow says, turning to look at me.
"What?" I ask. "I'm still hungry." I take another sandwich out. They both giggle at this.
"Didn't finish the food, huh?"
"We might have if this one mare didn't see us..." She starts to blush again.
"What happened?"
"Well we were um, kinda like... uh... making out and-"
"Aaaawwwww."
"Yeah. And I tried to tell her that she was hallucinating and that we didn't even know each other but-"
"It didn't work." I blurt out.
"Yeah, thanks." She says sarcastically.
"You're quite welcome, my dear." She just rolls her eyes with a smile. "So what was that whole 'finding the basket 'thing about?" Hey, I need to know.
"Oh, well Dashie didn't want to tell everypony that you two were dating and all so that was a cover-up story."
"Yeah, I kinda forgot to tell you about that. Sorry."
"It's okay. I just wanted to know."
"Well, it was fun. I'll see you lat-"
"Whoa, whoa whoa, who said that it was over yet?" I ask putting aside the now empty basket. "We can go get some dessert. I know a GREAT ice cream place in Canterlot. I used to-"
"Wait, you want to take me to Canterlot for some ice cream!?"
"No, I want to take you to Canterlot for the best ice cream there. Maybe even the best in Equestria. As I was saying, I used to work there. Before I moved and everything."
"It's that good, huh? Well I guess I can't say no to that."
"Aaaaahhhhhhhhwwww." We both roll our eyes and smile at Pinkie.
Me and Dash head out of Sugar Cube Corner. We wave bye to Pinkie. I notice the sign now. "Help Wanted." Hhhhmmmm...
"So, where is this place?"
"In Canterlot, remember?" She rolls her eyes and follows me as we both fly to Canterlot. It's not TO far away. I lead her to the shop. A few memories come back. I hold the door open for her.
"Thank you, sir." She says playfully. I walk in after her. I spot the colt at the front. Wait a minute. Light blue coat, dark blue mane, violet eyes...
"Hey! Cobalt!" Rainbow Dash jumps a little at my sudden loudness. The earth pony notices me.
"What's up Lightning? I knew you were gonna show up sooner or later. Come back for your favorite ice cream huh?"
"Actually, I came to treat a very special somepony to my favorite ice cream." I say, putting a hoof around Rainbow Dash. She blushes a little. "I'll take my usual."
"Alright. One triple scoop mint-chocolate chip ice cream cone. And what do you want?" He asks, looking to Dash.
"I'll take what he's having." She said.
"Excellent choice." I said. Rainbow and Cobalt both laugh. We get our ice cream and sit at a table outside.
"You were right. This ice cream is AMAZING!"
"I know right. It's normally pretty expensive. I'm glad that Cobalt gave me a discount, being his best friend and all."
"Yeah." We're quiet as we finish our ice cream. I wave bye to Cobalt and we fly back to Ponyville.
"I'll fly you home, okay?" I say to Dashie.
"Of course!" We fly to her house.
"Come on in, Lightning."
"Alright." We sit next to each other on her couch.
"Wanna spend the night?"
"Sure, why not?"
"Awesome."
"Then again, I COULD go home and do nothing..." I joke. She rolls her eyes.
"Lightning, what am I gonna do with you?"
"That's easy. Love me. The real question is, what am I gonna do with YOU?" She leans in real close so that her muzzle is an atom's space away from mine.
"Oh I can think of a few things..." The scary part isn't the look she's giving me. The scary part is that I can only think of what ONE of those things is.
"Well, I'm pretty tired. How about you?" I ask with a yawn. Hopefully, I can change the subject.
"Yeah, I could sleep." With that, we both go to bed. We wrap each other in our hooves.
When I wake up, I feel something in bed with me. Oh yeah, that's right. I spent the night at Dashie's house. She's still asleep. I think. I give her a kiss on the forehead and start to get out of bed. Might as well make breakfast.
"Where do you think YOUR going?" Asks a very sleepy Dash. Guess she wasn't asleep.
"Well, I THINK I'm going to make breakfast."
"But... never mind. Go ahead. I guess." What's she so disappointed about? I can't stay in bed forever. Although that WOULD be nice... I head into the kitchen to see what I can make. I take a look through the cabinets and stuff. Guess I'll make pancakes. I'll use a family recipe.
After some serious pancake making, I go back into Dashie's room, to find her waiting for me.
"Hey Lightning. Those pancakes smell great!"
"Thanks! It's a family recipe. But, I had to change a few ingredients..."
"Should I be worried?"
"I don't think so..."
"Breakfast in bed too? Lightning, you shouldn't have."
"I know. That's why I did it." She laughs a little and then makes a little more space for me. I made quite a few pancakes, but it shouldn't be bad. I know that I can finish it if anything is left over. I start to feed her at first. Kinda like a baby. But as a joke of course.
"I can feed myself you know... But I don't mind it at all." I chuckle and continue to do so. When I start to eat my pancakes, she tries to feed me. But, being me, I quickly stuff a whole pancake in my mouth without making a mess. Rainbow's jaw drops.
"What? You didn't know I can speed eat?" I ask with a smirk.
"There's a lot of stuff I don't know about you... apparently." I can only chuckle at this. When I finish my pancakes, I take the plates out in the kitchen. I come back to find Rainbow Dash waiting for me. "So got any plans today?" She asks me casually.
"Not really..." I sit next to her on the bed.
"Cool! I didn't mention it, but my parents are visiting today." She scoots a little closer to me.
"Oh. Alrigh- wait, WHAT!?" I'm not sure how to feel about this. Her parents visiting? What will they think of me?
"Yeah, I kinda expected you to react like that. Don't worry though. They'll probably like you if you just be yourself... at least, my mom will." Well that's just BRILLIANT! I don't have to worry about her mom but her dad? This is Sunset Shimmer all over again.
"Hey, they aren't visiting until later. Much later." She has that look in her eyes. The same look from last night. The one that made me a bit nervous. But she just leans in for a kiss. So of course I give her that kiss. Then we kinda start making out. Again. At least there aren't random ponies around to see us this time. We stop to catch our breath.
"Ya know, you're a really good kisser." I kinda blush in response. Seriously, how DO you respond to that?
"Uh, thanks." Is all I can manage to say. But I feel like I'm forgetting something. Something VERY important. That deals with my house...
"Hey Dashie?" She looks at me. Hey no blush. I guess she's used to me calling her that. "I fell like... I forgot something at home. Something super important. Not sure exactly what though..."
"Been there. You can go ahead back home then. I DO kinda have to prepare for the visit anyway."
"Alright. See you then."
"Yep." I give her a hug and a quick kiss before I leave. I take off flying as I go home. But, the more I think about it, the less it feels like I forgot something. The feeling is still there but it's a felling I haven't felt in a LONG time. A REALLY long time. Wait, it couldn't be my sixth sense, could it? The one I get when some family problem occurs... No. It couldn't be. I haven't had that feeling in a LONG time...
I walk inside my house. I immediately check everywhere for any sign of anything that I could have possibly forgotten. Hmm... Doesn't look like I forgot anything, but that feeling is still there. I decide that a quick shower might help. But it doesn't. Maybe there IS a-
*KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK*
Huh. I wonder who that could be. I go and answer the door to find Pinkie Pie there.
"Uh, hey Pinkie. What brings usu here?"
"I just wanted to visit and check-in on you." She says. I let her in and close the door. "So, how are things going with Dashie?" She asks.
"Pretty good. Just came back from her place. Spent the night and stuff."
"Aaaaawwww." She says before grabbing me in a bone-crushing hug. "I'm just SO happy for you."
"Well, if you keep hugging me like this, there won't be a me for you to be happy for." I manage to say.
"If you say so." And just like that, she lets go of me. "Ooooohh! My Pinkie Sense tells me that some BIG news is coming." I look at her, slightly amazed.
"So it's not just me."
"Not just you what?" She asks.
"That has some kinda sixth sense. That feels some weird way today."
"I guess not. Hey! Looks like the mail pony came earlier today!" She points out the window. I look to find the mail pony at my mailbox. I go out and see that there is one envelope in it. I go back inside to look at it. Wait... "I'd recognize that bad writing anywhere. It's from my older brother, Swift Bolt. Guess it did have something to do with my family..."
"Ooooohh! Family mail!" I open the envelope which Pinkie looks at.
"Wow! This really IS bad writing. I can barely read it."
"Yep. That's Swift. I was the only pony who could read it." I read the letter from my older brother, not sure what to expect. Oh... wait... oh... Whatever I was expecting, it was not THIS.
"L-Lightning? W-what's wrong?" The worry in her tone tells me that my face must express sadness or something.
"I- I... My..." I can't even put this into words. This is TERRIBLE news! Next thing I know, I'm being hugged, but not to death this time. Pinkie is giving me a friendly, gentle, comforting hug. I accept the hug and hug her back. I can fell a single tear rol down my cheek. After what feels like forever, she lets go.
"You okay Lightning?"
"Yeah. Thanks."
"No problem." She says, a small smile returning. "Ready to tell me what happened?"
"Yeah. I guess so. It's just... hard to say it."
"It's alright Lightning. I'm here for you."
"Thanks. So, uh, what happened was that my brother said my dad... uh died..." The small smile on Pinkie's face disappears completely and her eyes widen. She then gives me another gentle hug.
"I'm sorry for your loss..."
"It's alright Pinkie." I never thought this would happen. My dad died... Not only that, I think Pinkie Pie just became my best friend.
"So, uh, when is the funeral?" Pinkie asks me. Wait... when IS the funeral? The letter didn't say anything about... Oh. There's a back. There's another thing Swift was good at. Always making it seem like the end when there's a back. I could only smile at this.
"Maybe the back has something to say about it..." I say.
"Wait, you didn't know about the back? I assumed that you did." I chuckle as I read. At least Pinkie's here to lighten the mood. But then it darkens a little.
"I uh, kinda missed it because of my move. Damn, I wished I would've known this before... They didn't get my new address in time and couldn't postpone it." I sigh a little and Pinkie gives me yet ANOTHER hug. Guess she's a hugger. Not that I mind in a time like this. I have to visit. Apparently my brother managed to convince them to bury him near Ponyville. Not sure if it was because Dad was from Ponyville or because he was thinking about me.
"Hey Pinkie," she turns and looks at me. "Know a place where I can grab some flowers?"
I head off to where my dad was buried. I'm kinda looking down when I see a pegasus shadow on the ground. I look up to see who it was but there is nopony there... I'm PRETTY sure I saw somepony. But when I start to walk again, I feel my saddlebags lifted off of my back. I turn around kinda angry.
"What the hell-" But instead of some random pony, it's none other than Rainbow Dash.
"It's just me, sweetheart. No need to use angry words." She says with a smile. Wait... SWEETHEART?! Okay who are you and what have you done with my Dashie? "So what brings you out here?" She asks, putting my saddlebags back where they belong. "Am I really that irresistible?" She gives me a face that on any other day, I wouldn't be able to say no to. But today is not any other day.
"Not exactly. I-"
"WHAT?! Not the answer I was expecting. Guess I have to work on that... Anyway, you were saying?"
"My dad died and I was going to visit him." I said with that sadness in my voice.
"Oh. That sucks," she says landing next to me. "I suppose you wouldn't mind me coming with you then, right?"
"Of course, Dashie."
"Cool." We walk in silence to the cemetery were my dad was buried. It takes me a little to find his tombstone. But eventually, I do. A sight that I never thought I'd see... I get the flowers out of my bags and lie them in front.
"I'm sure gonna miss you..." I mumble, a little more to myself. I feel a tear roll down my cheek. Again, I'm being hugged. But this time, it's Rainbow, not Pinkie. I hug her back and we stand there for what seems like ages, hugging each other. I finally break the warm hug. "Hey, you don't mind if I visit my mom do you? You know, with your parents visiting and all..."
"That's okay. I'm sure it's hard on your mom as well. I can probably arrange something... Hey! Maybe we can all meet at your mom's house?"
"Yeah! That's a pretty good idea. I'm sure my mom won't mind."
"Cool. I'll leave a note telling my parents to meet over at your mom's place and they can meet each other as well!"
"Sounds great to me!" I tell Rainbow where my mom lives and we both head home. I put away my stuff and get ready to visit Mom. Except... that feeling... it's back again. What could it mean THIS time? I try to ignore since I'll probably find out once I get to my mom's house. But it's hard to ignore. I meet Dashie just as were about to enter Cloudsdale. We go to where my mom lives and I knock on the door.
"Lightning?"
"Hey, Mom." She quickly gives me a hug. She's just as I remember her. That whitish-gray coat. Her blonde mane with a single red highlight. And those blue eyes that I genetically received.
"It's been so long since I've last seen you." She says as she releases me.
"Yeah, I know."
"Look at you. You're all grown up." Of course. The generic mom statement. "And who is this young mare over here?"
"I'm Rainbow Dash. Lightning's marefriend." She used the word. SHE USED THE WORD! In front of my MOM too.
"Aaaaaawww. Another one already?" I kind of blush as she lets us in. I start to catch up with my mom.
"So what brings you here?"
"I heard about what happened to Dad."
"Oh. The funeral wasn't the same without you."
"Yeah. I bet it wasn't."
"So how did you meet this nice mare?" She asks, gesturing to Dashie who was looking at the pictures above the fireplace.
"She crashed into me." My mom giggles a little at this.
"Well good luck with her." She says with a wink.
"Thanks... Oh! Her parents are visiting and she left them a note telling them to meet here. Ya know, 'cause I was going to visit you and all."
"That's quite alright." I knew Mom would be cool with it. I go over to Dashie. She's looking at the picture of my dad. Some memories come back as I look at it. His brown mane and tail. Light tan coat and deep blue eyes. I'll never forget him.
"He would've liked you."
"Huh? Wha-?" Clearly she was startled.
"That's what your were thinking, right?"
"Yeah. He seems like a pretty cool pony."
"Yeah... Basically his way of showing that he was alright with you would be to playfully tease you." We just stand there in silence for a little while. "Hey, wanna see my old room?"
"Sure!" I lead her to where my room was. Wait... there is NO way I left this room THIS clean.
"It's a lot neater than I remember... or than what it should be since it was MY room."
"Maybe your mom cleaned it for you?"
"Yeah, probably." I sit down on the bed and Rainbow joins me. We just sit there, again in silence.
"So, uh, I thought you were from Canterlot?"
"Well, I was born in Cloudsdale and moved to Canterlot with my dad when my parents divorced..."
"Oh... that sucks."
"Yeah. But they eventually got back together. But I decided to stay in Canterlot. Mostly because I fell in love with this one mare named Sunset Shimmer. "
"So that's what your mom meant by 'another' one already..."
"Yeah..." I feel a slight blush come to m cheeks.
"Soooooo. What happened to Sunset?"
"She ended up going somewhere, but she never told me where..."
"Oh." I take another look around the room. I see a few old things of mine. The chemistry set, a picture of me when I first learned to fly, and some trophy that I won. I can't remember what for though... We head back out into the living room. I spot the piano and immediately go over to it. It's been a long time without YOU, my friend... I'm a little hesitant, but I begin to play my favorite piano song. Fur Elise, by Beethoven. When I'm done, I get an applause from my mom and Rainbow.
"Wow Lightning! I didn't know you could play the piano."
"Yes. He actually taught himself how. I was so proud when he played his first song without messing up." I blush a little at the memory.
"Ya know Mom, it does need a little tuning..."
"Of course it does, Mr.Piano Expert." And as if on cue, somepony knocks on the door.
"I got it mom!" It's probably Rainbow's parents. Hopefully I can make a good first impression. When I open the door however, I am instantly greeted with a spear. Not THAT kind though. Only one pony would be insane enough to do something like that.
"What the hell was THAT for, Swift?" The other stallion gets up. He has a light grey coat with a light brown mane and tail. His eyes are a mix of my eye color and my dad's. Somewhere in between those 2 eye colors.
"Gotta make sure your ass is strong, lil bro. Espec-"
"Boys, watch your language, please." Mom interrupts sternly.
"Sorry Mom!" We both reply at the same time. Now it feels like the family is back together... Except for Dad...
"Anyway, like I was saying, I just wanted to make sure you're ready to be an uncle AND an older brother..."
"Wait, WHAT?" I'm going to be an uncle AND an older brother?
"What? Mom didn't tell you?"
"N-noooo..." Why DIDN'T she tell me?
"Your dad and I were going to tell together, but you moved and then this..."
"It's okay Mom." We sit there in silence for a little bit.
"So, uh Swift? You're gonna be a dad, huh?" I had to break the silence.
"Yeah, bro. When you reach a certain part of your relationship, all your mare can think about is having foals. Sometimes they start talking foals before marriage. I was lucky. You got a mare yet?" Before I can even open my mouth, Rainbow speaks up.
"He has ME." She's all proud of our relationship now. I remember when she was shy about it. Swift laughs a little at this.
"Good luck with her. It's only a matter of time." Well thanks for that, Swift. I walk over to the couch and sit down. I need some rest. Before I know it, Dash joins me. She rests her head on me and nuzzles into me. I wrap her in my hooves, not even bothered by my mom cooing and Swift laughing. I'm used to it by now. I hug the rainbow maned mare in my hooves a little tighter.
"Did I mention that I love you?" I ask her.
"I think you might've... but you might have to say it again, just in case."
"I love you."
"I love you to." And with that, she leans in closer for a kiss, which I gladly accept. The moment lingers for some time. I honestly wish it could last forever. But of course, it doesn't. We break up the kiss and just sit there on the couch. Rainbow soon falls asleep and so do I, soon after.
"Aaaaaaaw. They look so cute." Says a random female voice.
"I know, right?" Mom replies.
"I dunno how I feel about him..." Says a male voice.
"I think you should give him a chance. You gotta admit. They make a cute couple." That was definitely Swift.
"And she looks so happy with him. She's sleeping with a smile on her face." Says the first voice.
"I think they're waking up!" With that, I wake up from whatever that was. Drifting away from sleep? I don't know... I find Rainbow still in my hooves, waking up as well. One look tells me that her parents are here as well. It's not hard to tell whose voice was whose. The colt has a rainbow mane, ember-ish eyes and a dark-light blue coat. The mare has purple eyes, a sky blue mane, and a pink coat.
"Uh, hi. My name is Lightning." I say, kinda awkwardly.
"Well, hello Lightning." Rainbow's mom speaks up first. "I'm Rainbow Dash's mom. You can call me Firefly."
"And I'm her dad. You can call me Mr. Blaze." Hey, I'll take it. It's definitely better than calling him sir or something like that. I give them both a hoof shake. Making a good first impression... Yeah not something I'm the best at. Improvising time! "So, uh, lovely weather we've been having quite lately, huh?" Firefly laughs a little and so does Mom. Swift and Rainbow are trying to hide their laughter but aren't doing the best job. Mr. Blaze is just staring at me though. I'm with him. I don't see what's so funny. I just made an honest comment.
"It sure is, Lightning." Firefly says. Well, okay then. We sit there in silence.
"So, uh, Mom and Dad. How's it going?" Asks Rainbow, who still has her hooves wrapped around me.
"I'm doing well, thanks for asking." Says Firefly.
"Yeah, I can't complain."
"Hey, Lightning here is REALLY good at playing the piano." Wait, what is she doing?
"Is that so?" Mr. Blaze turns to look at me. "I also enjoy playing the piano from time to time." Ah. I see what shes doing now.
"Would you like to play for us, Lightning?"
"Sure." Rainbow finally lets go of me so I can walk over to the piano. I look at the keys, wondering what song to play. I don't want to play the same song again. The second I touch the first key, I instantly start playing Canon. I love this song. One of my favorites. When I finish, everypony applauds. Even Mr. Blaze.
"Thank you, thank you. You're all to kind." Everypony chuckles a little. Again, even Mr. Blaze. I guess this visit is going pretty good.
"Ya know, that piano DOES need a little tuning."
"That's what I said." Mom just rolls her eyes. Things just might be changing for me.
I say bye to Rainbow's parents as they leave. "See you around?"
"Definitely." Firefly says, giving me a hug. Well THAT was unexpected.
"See you soon, Mr. Blaze."
"Yep. And you can call me Rainbow." Well okay then. I guess Rainbow Dash was named after her Dad. When I close the door and turn around, I see her looking me.
"What?"
"Told you so." She walks over and gives me a nuzzle.
"Aaaaaaaw." Oh come on Mom. Can't we PDA in peace?
"So Lightning, thought of any foal names yet?" Rainbow giggles and I roll my eyes. Come on Swift. Don't be like that. I say bye to Mom and Swift and then me and Dashie head back to Ponyville. While we're flying, I look at her and she looks at me.
"Well that went well."
"Yeah. I knew they would like you."
"Oh! Next week is Swift's birthday!"
"Cool! Be sure to tell Pinkie. She'll help you out with the party. After she has a huge excitement attack." I laugh, just imagining her reaction... or how she would react if she knew about my younger sibling or Swift's foal. We land when we make it into Ponyville.
"So, where to next?" I ask Dash.
"The Carousel Boutique. I need to ask Rarity something."
"Alright. Race you there?"
"Id love to, but last time I raced AJ there, it didn't end well. Basically, Rarity made a rule saying we couldn't race there anymore."
"That's to bad. I would have beaten you anyway." I say, tickling her with my wing. When I do, she lets out the girliest giggle I hace ever heard. Then we just stare at each other, processing what just happened. Then a mischievous grin grows on my face. Realising what is happening, she takes off flying, heading straight towards The Carousel Boutique. Naturally, I follow her. Rarity might have made a no racing rule, but she didn't say anything about chasing. She burst through the door with me following after. I tackle and just start tickling her everywhere.
"S-stop!" She says in between laughs.
"Never!" Then, unexpectedly, she pulls me in for a kiss, causing me to stop. She then pushes me and I end up knocking over something. "No fair." I say playfully.
"All's fair in love and war, my dear Lightning." I look over and notice that we apparently interrupted a tea party between Rarity and Fluttershy. Oops. "Uh, hey. How's it going?"
"Well Fluttershy and I were having our weekly tea party before we were interrupted by you two entertaining ponies. I made a no racing rule. Apparently I need to make a no PDA rule as well?" She asks, probably thinking about things worse than me being launched across the room and into a shelf after being given a kiss. I still can't get over her voice...
"P-wha?" Asks Rainbow.
"Public display of affection." I tell her.
"Oh yeah."
"So, what brings you two here? I'm sure it wasn't so you could make out on my floor." I chuckle a little as I pick up the shelf and attempt to reorganize it.
"Oh, you didn't have to do that, darling." She says, using her telekinesis to organize it Right. Unicorn. "But I do appreciate the help. You are quite a gentlecolt." She says, booping my muzzle. I don't think that was a good idea. Rainbow is giving her a stare that would scare Nightmare Moon back to the moon for another 1,000 years.
"Oh, uh, sorry." That seems to lighten up Dash just a little.
"Anyway, we came because I was thinking that maybe you could possibly tell everypony how much of a great couple we are?"
"Yes, racing to my house, knocking over my shelf, and making out on my floor. You two are a GREAT couple." Rarity says sarcastically.
"Well, actually, I CHASED her here, she kissed me, and I think she meant we MAKE a great couple." I say.
"Not to mention that you just tried to steal my coltfriend right in front of me." Rainbow replies with a smirk.
"I did NOT try to steal your coltfriend. Anyway, sure. I could do that for you. As long as you don't try to make out on my floor again." Rarity returns the smirk. Rainbow rolls her eyes.
"Well thanks Rarity."
*Third Person... or should I say PONY*
As Lightning and Rainbow leave, Rarity walks back over to where Fluttershy was sitting.
"Well Fluttershy, you know what this means, right?"
"That you're a coltfriend stealer?" Rarity begins to blush.
"I am NOT a coltfriend stealer. I was just uh-"
"Flirting?"
"No! I don't even like him like that..."
"If you say so. You were saying?
"I was saying that you won the bet." With that, Rarity gives Fluttershy some bits.
"Yay." Rarity goes back to her tea and Fluttershy goes back to her magazine as if nothing just happened.
"That was really fun Lightning! We should hang out more often."
"Totally Pinkie." We just came back from pranking some random ponies. Some were alright and laughed along with us. Others... didn't take it so lightly. But it was fun anyway.
"Well I need to head over to Sugarcube Corner right now so..."
"Alright... Oh wait! My older brother's birthday is next week!"
"Oooooh! A birthday?!"
"Yup. AND I'm going to be an older brother and an uncle!"
"This is BIG news Lightning!"
"Yeah, that's how I feel to."
"What day is his birthday?"
"Friday."
"The BEST day to have a birthday on!" I couldn't agree more. "Well, I'll get to work on planning a party for him!"
"Alright. I'll see you around." Pinkie heads over to Sugarcube Corner and I head home. But the somepony tries to get my attention. I hope it isn't one of the ponies who didn't like our pranks from earlier. But I turn around to find Twilight standing there.
"Oh, hey Twilight."
"Hey Lightning. Are you busy right now?"
"No, not really."
"Good! There's... somepony who wants to see you."
"Okay. Where at?"
"At my castle. It's-"
"You have a CASTLE?!"
"Uh, yes?"
"That's awesome!"
"Well follow me and I'll show you." Can't argue with that. I follow Twilight to her castle, which is AWESOME! It's big, like any castle should be. And it has this crystal look which is really cool. I follow her inside which also looks cool. It's really royal looking and stuff. And there's also a purple baby dragon.
"This is Spike. Spike this is my friend Lightning."
"Sup?" I say casually.
"Hey." She leads me to a room where there is this mirror in the middle.
"So, uh where is the pony at?"
"She'll be here soon." Oh, it's a she? But before I can think of who it could possibly be, the mirror starts glowing.
"Uh, is that normal?"
"It just means that she's coming."
"So it's like a portal?" But then the pony comes through. A mare I haven't seen in a LONG time. I immediately run up and hug her and she almost falls back into the portal.
"Hey Lightning."
"Hey Sunset."
"I'll give you two some time to catch up." Twilight says, followed by the sound of the door closing. Me and Sunset just stand there hugging each other.
"So... It's been a while."
"Yeah. Definitely. I missed you."
"I missed you too Lightning." We finally break the hug. "How did Twilight find you through that mirror portal thing? And what's behind it?"
"Oh, you see, me and Twilight can communicate using this magic book. When she writes in it, it appears in a book that I have and vice versa."
"That's pretty cool."
"So how are things going with you?"
"Pretty good. I'm definitely enjoying hanging out with Rainbow Dash, my uh..."
"Aaaaw. Another one already?"
"That's exactly what my mom said. But it just sounds completely different coming from you."
"Yeah... Look, Lightning. I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"For what I said before I left. For how I treated you when we broke up."
"Oh. That's alright. I'm just glad to see that you've changed since then."
"Me too." Our conversation lasts a little longer. We say bye and promise that we'll see each other again soon. Hopefully. She goes back through the portal and I leave the room.
"So, how'd it go?"
"It went pretty well. We promised to see each other again."
"That's nice. I'll be sure to tell you when she comes again."
"Cool." But as I leave, I can't help but have a couple of flashbacks from those days...
I couldn't believe my ears. "You're joking, right?" I asked her. This had to be a joke. An anniversary prank. Something. This could not be real.
"No, I'm not kidding," Sunset replied in an angry voice. "I am just fed up and everything. Why can't I have as much power as Celestia?" Wait, WHAT?!
"Because with great power comes great responsibility! Everypony knows that! If something goes horribly wrong, who do you think has to fix it? Who gets the blame?"
"Uh, the pony who created the problem?"
"Ok, well what if somehow Celestia is responsible for that? All that power, but so much responsibility."
"Well, Celestia wouldn't do that and neither would I."
"But it's just not your destiny..."
"So what?"
"Well, running away from your studies definitely is going to help you..." Nothing but silence. "Think of all the ponies who care about you, who will miss you when you're gone."
"Nopony cares."
"I care! So does Celestia!"
"You're not gonna change my mind, Lightning!" She was right. I couldn't change her mind. But I wasn't just gonna let her go...
"Come on Sunset. Don't be like this."
"Again, you're not gonna change my mind." After another moment of silence, I speak again.
"But either way, I still love you." And with that, I leaned in and gave her one long, last kiss. She seemed to hesitate for a moment, as if she wasn't sure what to do next. But then, she just turned and left without saying a word. I didn't go after her there was no point. They say if you truly love somepony, you need to know when to let them go. It's just, too hard to do...
I then wake up. It was just a dream, or a flashback. I look to my right to see my mare in bed.
"Lightning? Are you alright?" Apparently I was doing SOMETHING in that dream...
"Yeah, I'm alright. It was just a dream."
"You sure you don't wanna talk about?" I could tell by her voice that she was sleepy, but also concerned.
"I'll tell you in the morning. G'night Dashie." I say, laying back down. There's a bit of time before she replies.
"Goodnight Lightning..." She almost instantly goes to sleep. It takes a while for me, but I finally go back to sleep.
Here I am, sitting on a bench in the park. Just enjoying the rays of the sun, the cool breeze. Not a cloud in the sky. Such a beautiful day. Not to mention how peaceful everything is. When it seems things can't get any better, I spot Rainbow Dash heading in my direction. "Hey Dahsie!" I call out when she's just in hearing range.
"Shut up, Lightning!" Wait, WHAT?!
"Um, what's up?"
"You know exactly what!" I am so lost right now. "You CHEATED on me..." She says, sounding really hurt.
"I don't know what you're talking about!"
"Don't lie. Everypony knows it! Don't talk to me anymore. We're done..." I watch her storm off. As she disappears over the horizon, everything fades to black. I'm just sitting there in darkness. How could this happen? I would NEVER do such a thing... A really smart friend of mine said dream are visions of the future. I hope this is one of those rare occasions where she was wrong. I don't think I could live with myself if that actually happened...
