> Apologies > by Dusk_Writer > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > I'm Sorry? > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was an hour after the show and Spitfire had called Rainbow Dash to her office. She was curious as to why the captain had called her there, the show was over and she should be heading home right now. Despite the events of earlier, she was still kind of angry, her idols, they blamed her for sending Spitfire a fake note, didn't she prove anything at Rainbow Falls? She still decided to go. Right now she was standing outside the office, she took a deep breath and knocked. "Enter." A voice came from inside She opened the door and went in. The office itself was a dark blue room, with a few Wonderbolt posters, a lot of trophies, medals, a few cabinets and a desk in the middle of it all where Spitfire was sitting and doing some paperwork. "You called me here, ma'am?" Rainbow Dash asked as she saluted. "At ease. Yes, I called you here because you will be staying here for two more weeks." Spitfire said, looking up from her paperwork. Rainbow's eyes widened at that. She was about to speak but Spitfire cut her off. "In these two weeks you will be training with us as a replacement for Wind Rider, since I know you've got the speed, until Wave Chill is back, to fill the spot." Ohmygoshohmygoshohmygosh, no way! This has to be a dream……ya know, I'd prefer that, so this incident never happened, but, it is my lifelong dream……oh who am I kidding?!?!, she thought. "That is, do you accept?" She asked. "YEEEE—I mean, of course!" Rainbow said with a sheepish grin. Spitfire merely chuckled, this was going to be interesting. A few days had passed, Rainbow had still not forgiven the Wonderbolts especially a certain navy-maned pegasus. She was the element of Loyalty though, what else did you expect to get if you ever doubted ones being, the very essence that made up Rainbow Dash? But she acted like nothing was wrong, but, truthfully enjoyed herself. Speaking of that navy-maned wonderbolt, he was acting quite strange around her, it was like he was trying to get something out, but his tongue said something different, he had been following her around lately too. What could it be…… They had just finished practice so she was heading towards the showers. The field was nothing special, just a wide area made of clouds, a few advanced obstacle courses here and there and few padded mats in some of the dangerous courses if you fell, and two locker rooms off to the side, one for stallions and one for the mares, but as she walked towards the showers she was stopped by Soarin as he called out to her. "Hey Rainbow! Great practice today!" She turned around and said. "Thanks Soarin you weren't too bad yourself." "Heh, thanks. I'm sure you'll be a great Wonderbolt……" He trailed off. "I know I will!" She flashed him a confident smirk. "Well, Dash I, uh want to say something, uhh…" Soarin gulped. She raised an eyebrow at his behaviour. He took a deep breath and tried again, but nothing came out of his mouth, he closed it and opened it and closed and opened and closed and—"Dude, what do you want to say? You look like a dying fish." Rainbow rolled her eyes. "I-I-I just wanted to say, that I'm s-sorry." Soarin said, while looking at the ground. "What for?" Dash had a pretty good idea what it was for, but she wanted him to say it. "Well, for doubting you. Ya know, for thinking you'd ever send a fake letter to Spitfire." He frowned. "Soarin, I………" Rainbow paused and thought it over. "……Apology not accepted." She said calmly. He blinked, he really was not expecting that. "But Dash, I mean it, I'm really truly sorry!" She sighed and thought over what she was going to say. "Soarin, it runs deeper than you think, you might not know this but I'm the element of Loyalty." She paused to see his reaction, to which his eyes widened considerably but he let her continue. "Loyalty runs in my blood, and I would never stoop so low as to send Spitfire away……I thought I proved something at Rainbow Falls, earned your trust at least? I get your Captain was missing and one your veterans said it was me, I don't blame you for believing him, but you didn't at least try to help me?" She said and let her ears flop down. "But, I—" He was cut off by Dash. "No but's Soarin. Just…leave me alone." She said and walked off, leaving a guilty Soarin behind. A few days had passed after their encounter and neither of them had said a word to each other, well, other than the occasional 'hello' or 'hey', but that was it. For Dash she felt relieved that he didn't try again, but at the same time sad cause didn't try again. For Soarin, he felt really guilty, he knew she was an Element of Harmony before, but not which one, her turning out to be Loyalty made him feel guiltier. He had to fix this. "Dude, you seriouslymessed up! I mean she is the Element of freakin' Loyalty. Things can't be worse." Spitfire said after he finished telling her what happened. "Gee, thanks. That makes me feel soo much better." Soarin said sarcastically, he then banged his head on the table they were sitting on. They were currently in the Mess Hall eating lunch, it wasn't packed, but there were quite number of ponies there. The Mess Hall was just a big room for all of the Wonderbolts to eat, it looked like a cafeteria more than anything. "Look, Soarin. You can't give up now, you have to do something to show you actually mean it. How about tomorrow? During the two hour break during night training? Because I'm sure she'll be free at that time, and it will be a romantic night, if you know what I mean." Spitfire chuckled and winked. Soarin blushed. Great, she knows about my crush, just wonderful, he thought. "Alright, just help me, please." He begged. "I don't know, little bro……" She said while rubbing her chin, and grinning mischievously. He gave her a flat look and she chuckled. "Ok, ok! I'll help, but you'll need to come up with most of what you're gonna say up on your own. Alright?" "Alright! Thanks Spits!" He grinned. Using her nickname was ok, right? Big mistake. The glare that she sent his way, dropped his grin. If looks could kill, he was sure he'd be in heaven right now, and even then he'd still be dying. He gulped. "S-sorry!!" She just rolled her eyes. "Soo, about the plan…" He said, eager to change the subject. …And so they planned. Rainbow pushed herself as hard as she could. She and the rest of the Wonderbolts were racing through an obstacle course. Fleetfoot was in the lead, with Dash second. Not for long, Dash thought. Rainbow pushed with all her might and passed Fleetfoot just as the finishing line came into view. She smirked at Fleetfoot's shocked face, and landed on the ground, panting. "Woah girl, I knew you were fast, but that was FAST!!!! And that's crazy since I'm the fastest Wonderbolt!" Fleetfoot commented as she came to a stop next to Dash. "Thanks Fleet! You were good too! Gave me a run for my money." She smiled. Fleetfoot grinned and walked towards the showers. Maybe that was a good idea, cause she reeked. After a nice, quick shower, Rainbow pulled out something that was bothering her all day, a note that was left on her doorstep where she was staying. It read: Dear Dash, Meet me behind the compound during your two hour break during training. —Soarin Should she go? He did hurt her, but he seemed to look sorry too. So should she? … Maybe…she could give him a chance? And she did, she'd go! In fact, she was headed there right now! She spotted Soarin as she rounded the corner, she took a deep breath and approached him. "Hey…" She said meekly. He turned around and they stared at each other, this was awkward……but Soarin was staring for another reason entirely. "Hey!" Soarin said, smiling. "Don't you smile at me, I'm still angry at you." Rainbow said with a huff. "………You came." Soarin pointed out. "Touché." He chuckled. "Come with me." He motioned her to follow. She rolled her eyes, but complied. They flew far away from the compound and gained a lot of altitude. Finally after a few minutes, Soarin led them to a fluffy cloud to sit upon. "Are you sure you're not gonna kill me and throw my body down Canterlot mountain?" He chuckles and rolls his eyes. "Oh, stop being so dramatic Dash." She gives him a 'what the heck?' Look. "Dude, I doubt even in a parallel universe I'd be dramatic." Then she looks off the cloud the cloud the first time. "Woah, I can see all of Equestia from here!" Rainbow said breathlessly. "Yeah." Was all Soarin said, for he was staring at mare next to him. She looked absolutely beautiful. The moonlight hitting her slender and fit body, her mane practically glowing, and her beautiful magenta eyes which seemed to twinkle with the stars. It was now or never, he thought. "Rainbow, I just want to say that I mean it when I say, I'm sorry. It wasn't right for me to yell at you like that I should've—" he couldn't continue for a hoof was pressed to his mouth. "Listen Soarin, I might've overreacted earlier, I guess I was just in shock from betrayal, but I guess you make some enemies along the way, huh? My friends and I have been making enemies since the beginning, but I just thought that the Wonderbolts would be different, but that's life to you, I guess.…….…man, wish Twilight were here right now, just to see her face from me talkin' like this." She snickered, "but, seriously, Soarin, I forgive you." She smiled. Well, this just solved itself. He then looked at her again. If looked breathtaking then, she looked downright gorgeous now. He would be crazy not to take a chance. He lifted her head with his hoof, and caressed her cheek. He started to lean forward, and to his surprise so did she. They slowly met in the middle, sharing a soft, long kiss. Why did she do it? Maybe that was why she was angry at Soarin most of all, a crush unrealised. After what seemed like forever, they pulled apart slowly, savouring the feeling of their first kiss. "What was that?" She said breathlessly. "It's called a kiss." "You dork!" She punched him playfully. They stopped and stared at each other. "So what position does that put us now?" Dash asked. Soarin blushed and said. "If you want to be." "I'd like that." She smiled. "But, I still wanna ask you the normal way." She just rolls her eyes and motions for him to continue. "Rainbow I don't know your middle name Dash, will you be my marefriend?" He asked. "Yes." They both smiled, and cuddled up to each other, Soarin draping a wing over her back. They sat there, in each others embrace, staring at the stars, for who knows how long, hours maybe? Which Dash seemed to realise. "Uh oh, MY TWO HOURS ARE UP! I'm so gonna kill you later Soarin!!!!" Dash yelled, as she stood up and started to hover. Before she could fully take off, he grabbed her wing and she yelped. "WE'RE GONNA FALL YOU MORON!!!!!!" Dash yelled. And fall they did. They fell through layers of clouds, after finally coming to a stop on a cloud which was much closer to the ground. Dash blinked, and huffed. "Idiot." Soarin just grinned sheepishly. He then grabbed her hoof, and hugged her. "I'd like to see you try, but I'll see you later." He said, bringing up her previous remark. She closed her eyes and hugged him back. "Try me." She whispered, and took off at breakneck speeds. Soarin watched as she flew off and smirked. "We'll see just how good you are……Dashie." He said with a content sigh, and resumed looking at the stars. For today, had been one of the best days of his life.
