There was a changeling who was the new mother of a strangely colored changeling. She didn't exactly know why her daughter was different. What she did know was that she couldn't call her daughter her own, not yet anyway or she'd surely be shamed by the whole town.

So in the midst of the night she took her daughter to the orphanage. She placed a necklace with the name Sola on her daughter knocked on the door and ran off leaving her little pink daughter behind.

"Who's there?" a golden colored mare called. Looking down she saw a little pink changeling, she had taken in changelings before and she expected this one to be no different. Although the color of this one made her question the little one's personality.
The golden mare named Goldie-kind look at the necklace around the changeling's neck and read the name Sola. "Interesting." she said.

A few years later...

Sola woke up ready to start the new day, it would be the same as usual she'd leave her room have breakfast with the other foals and fillies. After that she did her chores then she did her lessons, ate lunch, and had recess where most of the kids would make fun of her for being a changeling. And although she never had a best friend she didn't really care. The teasing hurt but she was used to it. Sometimes when she was alone she'd practice transforming. Which she knew was something changelings did and she knew changelings fed on love although she just ate regular food.

Later that day Goldie came up to her and said "I'm taking you home."

Sola just sat there speechless until she finally asked "Why?"

"I just received a letter from your mother saying she's ready to have you home."

Sola replied with a simple "Okay".

Then she wondered. Where is home? What is home like? Why was I even taken here? Who is my mother?

So after dinner she packed up what little she had put on and put on her necklace. So after she was all packed she headed down stairs and met with Goldie. Then they headed out.

They soon arrived in a strange, black, town filled with changelings and arrived at her mother's house. They quickly stepped inside avoiding the harsh glares. Once inside they saw a changeling who was one of her mother's friends. "Hello, Sola."

"Who are you?" Asked Sola not wanting to embarrass herself.

"I'm one of your mother's friends."

"Oh, what are you doing here?"

" I'm actually here for you."

"For me? Why?"

"Because you see your mother died."

"She what!?!"

"She died." "Last night"

" O-o-okay"

"I'm sorry"

Sola suddenly burst out crying. She didn't really know her mother but she felt that her mother truly did love her.

Before her mother's friend left she said "I'll come back tomorrow."

Goldie and her mother's friend left leaving her alone in the empty house. She didn't know what to do so she explored. She found what she thought was her mothers old room. She looked around it for a second. It had a bed, display cases with dolls, shelves with books, and a present box was on the bed.

A present box? Sola went over to open the box seeing that it had her name on the tag. When she opened it she found a heart locket and when she looked inside the necklace she found that instead of pictures there were mirrors.

Sola stared intently at the mirrors feeling something magical about the necklace.

And then all of a sudden silver sparkles floated out of the necklace and her mother appeared. Clearly stunned Sola asked, "Mom?"

Her mother replied, "Yes"

"How?" "How did this happen and how did you die?"

"I did not actually die my dear I used a spell to put my spirit into this locket so I could always be with you."

"Why? Why did you leave me? Why didn't you keep me? Why did you let me believe I was alone?"

"I left you cause it was the best option for both of us. And you were alone. You are alone. And your destined to be alone."

"I don't understand. You're with me and I'll always have the locket."

"I'm just a spirit now and even so I can't always be with you. Go to sleep darling."

"Okay, mother."

When Sola woke up she thought her mother had just been a dream but she still had the locket.

That morning her mother's friend stopped by. She learned that her name was Lilith.

"Will you be okay here by yourself?"

"Yes I'll be fine if you keep bringing food everyday."

"I'm going to go into town today do you want to come with me?"

So Sola decided to go with Lilith into town. They walked along stopping at some shops as they went. Sola heard a few whispers about her color but the other changelings actually seemed fairly nice. So after a long day they headed back to Sola's new home and there they found Goldie waiting.

"How are you?" she asked Sola.

"I'm good I had a nice day with Lilith. She's bringing me food everyday too."

"That's good"

"Would you like to join us for dinner?"

"Sure, but don't most changelings eat love and fear?"

"Most do although we can eat regular food too."

"I can't eat love although I wouldn't want to."

Lilith and Goldie shared a laugh before going inside.

Once inside they went to the kitchen to eat dinner. They had sunflower soup and then they had some apple pie for dessert.

The older mare and changeling went home for the night and Sola tucked herself into bed. Being convinced her mom was just a dream and as for the necklace she just thought her mom had planned to give it to her before she died.
