Donut Joe was in Manehatten supervising the construction of another one of his shops. He had finally made enough bits to open up a new shop in the city, hoping to become more well known like he always wanted. It was his hope and dream to become Equestria's best donut baker. To others it may have seemed silly, but not for Joe. Baking donuts was his passion. It's all he ever needed and wanted to do to be happy.

He trotted over to the small building next to the site where he had set up a temporary office. He tossed his hat onto a table and sat down to write. Making donuts wasn't easy, they had to be made just so. Joe took his work very seriously. Each donut he made was a work of art and he was always coming up with new ideas for them. For a lot of ponies creating a new donut would be a hard task, but for him he could find inspiration everywhere and anywhere.

A knock came on the door as Joe was writing down some more ideas. "Come in! The door's unlocked!" He shouted over the noise, not wanting to stop his thought process. When the knocking came again it threw him off. "I'm coming, I'm coming!" He was a little annoyed, but walked over and opened the door for a construction worker. "What is it, I was in the middle of something."

"We need you to come look at something. You have overlapping plans and we need to know which one you want us to follow before we go through with anything." He took the blueprints out of his belt and showed them to him. He pointed to the section on the top floor. "In the first plan there is a room here, but in the second one it's gone. If you're not sure about it I can take you up there to show you what it would look like with the room and give you an idea of how much space you will have left for everything else."

Joe looked over the blueprints unsure. On paper it seemed cramped, but the structure so far was bigger than he had pictured in his head. "Yeah, let's head up there. Thanks for checking in with me first." He handed the papers back to him then grabbed his hard hat and put it back on. "Lead the way!"

Joe followed him up to the second floor where there were two rooms already being built. He looked around and imagined the placed finished. He'd have two kitchens and two indoor lounge areas. The third room could ether be closed off or opened up into either an office or balcony with a few tables. As they were discussing his options they heard the snap of a rope above them. "What was that?!" He looked around frantically with the worker til they spotted the cause of it.

Above them was a construction pony dangling from one end of a rope by his teeth. Some rushed up to try and pull him up, but pulling on the other end made him slip further down. The others rushed to get help and to find something to catch him incase he fell. Donut Joe was friends with everypony working on the building. Watching one of them in trouble made him sick to his stomach.

Not being able to just wait around for help and watch he ran up to the level above them where he was working. He looked around for anything that could help when he spotted a cable wire. He used his magic to tie one end to an iron beam and the other end to the workers harness. "Hang in there! We'll pull you up!" He shouted down to him and motioned at some others to help him.

Ponies passing by stopped and watched in horror as the life of one of their own hung in the balance. There wasn't much the response team could do to get to him as they were blocked by pedestrians. He was almost up, but they were starting to lose their grip. The cable slipped off the beam for just a moment. Joe lunged at it and slid off the other side, the cable in his mouth. His weight helped to pull his friend up, but once he was up, Joe was in danger.

He tried to swing himself to the second floor. Counting out to three in his head he swung back and forth before letting go of the cable. It seemed like he would make it, but he missed by just a hoof's length. His life flashed before his eyes as he fell down. He hit a wooden beam, slowing his fall before hitting the ground. Ponies gathered around him checking to see if he was okay and alive.

The last thing he remembered was pain. As everything started to spin he could feel himself slipping away in immense pain. After that everything was dark. He could hear a steady pinging from somewhere near him. His head hurt and he thought he was going to be sick. When he tried to stretch he couldn't do much as it hurt and he was propped up. "What? Where-" He opened his eyes and looked around. White walls, an Iv and a monitor. There was one window that overlooked the construction zone. Based on his surroundings and view point he came to the conclusion that the only place he could be, was the hospital.

Outside the room ponies were arguing, something about time and patients. After a few moments they walked over to a room and went in. In the bed was a stallion covered almost from head to toe in bandages. He turned to them with a questioning look on his face. The yellow pony with blue hair walked up to him. "Hi Darling, I'm Nurse Snowheart. This here is Nurse Redheart." She pointed her hoof to a white mare with a pink mane pulled into a bun. "We are under orders to take you over to Ponyville Hospital. Now I'm supposed to be looking after you while you're there, but I'm going to be out for a while. I need to tend to an emergency. I hope you don't mind, but she'll be the one looking after you while I'm gone." The mare trotted away as he was trying to ask questions.

And just like that he was left alone with a mare that seemed like she didn't want to be there as much as him.
