Sweets and Mint Tear are twin sisters, they had just recently lost the rest of their family so they decide to journey to Ponyville to find themselves a new home, they'll run into all sorts of obstacles
"What do we do now s-sis?" Mint Tear asked as she and her sister looked at their family's graves
Sweets sighed "we find a new home... I was thinking we could go to Ponyville, I've read it's a nice place." She said smiling ever so slightly and adjusting her glasses
Mint Tear looked at her sister and nods she always was a follower "o-okay... we should get some supplies before we set of... " She said as the both drew hearts in the dirt of their family's graves. After saying they're final goodbyes to their family they went to the advanced general goods store
"How can I help ya?" The old pony behind the counter asked looking down at the two fillies
"Umm were j-just getting some supplies." Mint Tear said nervously due to the fact she was quite shy
"Hmm I think we got everything." Sweets said putting a large number of adventuring items on the counter it was everything from grappling hooks, to a Bowie Knife
"Huh let's see that all comes out to 100 bits." Said the old pony. Mint Tear nodded and put 100 bits on the counter
"Okay sis let's go!" Sweets said stuffing all the stuff into one saddle bag it looked the same size as it did before this puzzled Mint but she didn't have time to question it as her sister was pulling her out of the store faster then you could say 'Great Wickering Stallions'
Mint Tear was nervous but nodded knowing they'd be fine, cause when Sweets did something in the end it usually turned out okay "so sis which way is Ponyville?" Mint asked
"Well... let's see if we take the train it should take us right to Ponyville, it'll probably be a 2 or 3 day ride since we're all the way in Fillydelphia." Sweets said as they walked towards the train station. As the two walked to the train station they stopped for one last Fillydelphia Cheese Steak
"I'm gonna miss these." Mint said sighing munching on her Cheese Steak as they walked
"Yeah but I can make you them if you want." Sweets said reassuringly and giggles
"Are you sure she'll be okay?" a soft, concerned voice asked in Sweets head
"Yeah Shy I'm sure, once we get to Ponyville she'll feel a bit better." Sweets said to the voice in her head
Mint didn't think anything of it "Just sis being weird, like always." She thought as they approached the train station
"Hello there fillies you looking to travel today?" The Ticket Vendor asked looking down at them
"Yes Sir! we need two tickets to Ponyville." Sweets said politely as the Vendor gave them their tickets. Mint paid for the tickets and they sat down and waited for the train to their new home
After waiting about 1 hour the train pulled up to the station. Sweets moved quickly grabbing her sister and getting onto the train.
"Now leaving Fillydelphia, next stop Canterlot, then Ponyville." The Conductor announced as the train left the station
"I'm bored... let's explore the train!' Sweets said hopping out of her seat Mint sighed "oh come on Minty this'll be fun." she added reassuringly
"You go sis I'm just gonna take a nap." Mint said yawning
"Okay sis if you say so." Sweets said leaving their room. She went to the next car over which was the regular passenger car, there were ponies of every shape ,size, and color. She carefully maneuvered her way around the ponies making it to the dinning car she sighed in relief then bumped into a blue mare with a silver mane and tail, she wore a wizard hat and cape
"Who dare bump into the Great an Powerful Trixie?" The Mare asked turning around she looked down to see Sweets
"Sorry Ms. Trixie, I didn't see you there... I'm just really hungry so I wasn't thinking about my surrounding... my name is Sweets" she said twiddling her hooves nervously
"Oh it's alright, Sweets, why don't you join me for lunch?" Trixie suggested with a smile
"Okay! eating alone is boring so it's a yes!" Sweets said smiling as they sat at a table "So Trixie, where are you going?"
"Oh I'm going to Canterlot, I've got a magic show there next week." Trixie said boasting a little
"Oh cool, my sister and I are going to Ponyville." Sweets said taking a bite from pastry
"I've been to Ponyville a few times, it's a great town, the ponies there are very nice and friendly, you actually kinda remind me of a pony I met there." Trixie said as she sipped her tea
Sweets' ears perked up a little "Really who?" she asked curiously
"Her name is Pinkie Pie, she's very enthusiastic and friendly like you." Trixie said eating her sandwich
Sweets smiled "I'll have to meet her then. You're fun to chat with, next time you come to Ponyville look me up." she said giggling
"I will, oh if I may ask why are you and your going to Ponyville?"
"Well... our family died in a fire... so were going to Ponyville to find a new home..." Sweets said sighing
Trixie hugged Sweets and pat her back "I'm so sorry for your loss."
Sweets smiled again "Thank you Trixie." she said hugging back. "it was great meeting you Trixie, but I should get back to my room or my sister will worry."
"Okay Sweets and it was great meeting you too." Trixie said as Sweets started walking back to her.
"She was nice." Shy said
"I'll say ." a weird voice in her head said
"Yep!" Sweets said in agreement with the voices in here head "and you've been quiet Looney." she added walking back into her and Mint Tear's room
The train came to a screeching halt the next day around 3 PM
"oh no, this isn't good." Shy said nervously Mint looked nervous as well as they stepped off the train to see the track ahead was broken "What are we going to do now Sweets?" Mint asked tears in her eyes she was scared. Sweets hugged her sister tightly to comfort her before taking out a map and drawing on it "Sweets what are you doing?" She asked sniffling
"Well we can take this route, we go down the river then get off at the fork in the river, head to Dodge Junction, then to Appleloosa, and lastly though the Everfree forest to Ponyville." Sweets said pointing to the route she drew on their map
"B-but we don't have a boat Sweets..." Mint said looking down she was still frightened she always was a fragile girl even before recent events
Sweets giggled pulling a yellow rubber raft out of her saddlebag "you were saying Minty?" she asked giggling as the walked to the river Sweets gave Mint a life jacket after putting on her own, she put the boat in the water and they hopped in
"Sis I'm scared." Mint said crying softly "What... what if we don't make it to Ponyville?" She asked
Sweets hugged her sister again and stroked her mane to calm her down "Come on Minty don't talk like that, I... I know we'll get to Ponyville." she said and kissed her sister's forehead
Mint stopped crying and kept hold of Sweets to cheer herself up a little "Sis d-do you s-see that." she ask nervously pointing to the jagged rocks ahead
Sweets gasped "yes we gotta steer through them!" she said as they worked together and began steering through the rocks. One of the rocks cut Sweets across her side as they steered.
"Sweets are you okay!?!?" Mint asked crying heavily from fear Sweets gave a nod as they steered through the remaining rocks. Sweets pulled the boat ashore and Mint began tending to her wound
"Thanks Minty you're the best." Sweets said yawning as the sun began to set
Minty smiled "thanks Sweets we should camp out here tonight, hey sis can I ask you something?"
"Yeah what is it Minty?" Sweets asked as she set up their tent
"Why are we stopping in Appleloosa?" Minty asked that question had popped into her head went Sweets showed her their route
"Because I've heard it's a fun town, and we'll probably only be there for a day." Sweets said handing Mint some food
Mint ate it and yawned this whole ordeal had left her exhausted "goodnight Sweets." she said then climbed into the tent and went to sleep.
Sweets ate a bit of food, she put out their fire and climbed into the tent she laid down next to Mint, Sweets pulled out a picture from her saddle bag, it was of herself, Mint, and their parents at the Fillydelphia zoo it was the last time she saw Mint smile, Sweets sighed putting it back, she kissed Mint's forehead "goodnight Minty things will be good when we reach Ponyville." she whispered into Mint's ear before going to sleep
The Next Morning
Sweets woke up early the next morning she made a fire and started cooking breakfast over the fire "Hopefully we make down the River today." she said to herself smiling
"M-me too, this place feels dangerous."
"You say dangerous I say full of potential."
"I... I don't know..."
"Chin up you!"
"Quiet I'm trying to focus!" Sweets said to the voices in her head as she finished making pancakes he went into the tent to find Mint still asleep, Sweets gently shakes her sister awake "Come on Minty wake up I made pancakes." She said softly
Mint yawned and began to wake up "Mornin' sis..." she said quietly as she began munching on the pancakes Sweets gave her
"So we'll get sailing after we eat breakfast." Sweets said munching on her pancakes Mint nodded in agreement. Mint and Sweets finished eating about 30 minutes later Sweets and Mint put their life-jackets on and hoped into their rubber raft and started sailing down the river again
Mint looked sad but Relaxed "sis you wanna know what this reminds me of?" she asked sighing
"Yeah I know Minty... it's like when we went rafting with mom and dad..." Sweets said sighing
"Still remember that song mom and dad would sing when we went rafting?" Mint asked not looking as sad
"Yeah of course... you... you wanna sing it?" Sweets asked smiling as they sailed down the cool waters
Minty nodded and started singing "Going up the river... taking all my friends... we're all headed to the place where the music never ends..." she sang softly as Sweets joined her they sang the song for a few hours then stopped as they approached a cave "Sweets th-there's a cave coming up." she said nervously
Sweets nodded as she held Mint close so she'd feel safe "don't worry Minty I won't let anything hurt you." she said softly in a warm tone Mint relaxed as they entered the cave it was pitch black and silent but soon the silence was broken by a low growl in the cave which caused Mint to shriek in fright, this was followed by the shrieking of bats that dive-bombed them Mint was shielded for any and all strikes by Sweets, Mint began to cry as Sweets saw the light at the end of the tunnel "just hold on sis where almost out of here." she said calmly as they exited the tunnel
"Oh thank Celestia daylight!" Mint said basking in the sunlight
Sweets giggled "you're funny sis." she said pulling the raft ashore "okay Minty let's start walking to Dodge Junction."
Mint nodded "okay sis let's go." she said as the two started walking
Our two young adventurers have been walking for about an hour when they both hear each other's stomach growl
"l think we should stop to eat." Sweets said setting her saddlebags down
Mint put her saddlebags down too "yeah... did you bring anything to make tea with?"
"Of course I know how much you love making and drinking mint tea." Sweets said pulling a kettle and tea making supplies out of her saddlebag. Sweets made a fire.
Mint began boiling the water "I... I'm glad were going to Ponyville... I think.... it'll be fun." she said as Sweets made sandwiches
Sweets finished making the sandwiches as Mint finished making the tea Mint poured the tea "Let's eat!" Sweets said handing Mint a sandwich
"So what are we gonna do in Dodge Juction? or are we just gonna pass right through?" Mint ask sipping her tea
Sweets took a big bite out of her sandwich "I heard there's a cherry farm, maybe we can go cherry picking for a little bit?" she suggested shrugging
"That sounds... fun... okay and what about Applelossa?" Mint asked munching on her sandwich
"They have a hoedown like everyday, we'll have fun at one of those."
"Okay I think that could be fun." Mint said as the two sisters finished their food, they put their saddlebags back on and started walking again, after an hour or two our adventurers came across a little lizard.
"Aww so cute, I'm gonna keep him!" Sweets said picking up the little lizard "I'm gonna call him Scales." she said giggling
"Sweets are you sure it's a safe pet?" Mint asked nervously
"Yes Minty I'm sure." Sweets said putting Scales on her back where he curled up and rest. As Sweets and Mint Tear walked they came across a tree blocking their path, it was the thickest tree that you'd ever see
"Sweets? how in the name of celestia are we gonna get over this thing?" Mint asked nervously
Sweets pulled the Bowie Knives she bought out of her bag "Elementary my dear Minty, we climb are way over using the Bowie Knives as climbing hooks." She said handing two of the Bowie Knives to Mint and they started climbing over the tree huge trunk they made it about halfway up when one of Mint's Bowie Knives came loose and fell
"Sweets help!" Mint cried out Sweets went down and grabbed her sister's hoof and thew her up to the top of the Sweets then slowly climbed to the top they look out and saw a path in the distance
"That's the path to Dodge Junction." Sweets said smiling wide as they carefully climb down they walked for a while and started going down the path to Dodge Junction Sweets started giggling
"what is it Sweets?" Mint asked
"Remember that song Dad would sing about his crew mate from when he was a sailor?" Sweets asked still giggling
"Oh yeah the one about Stuart The Sailor." Sweets said "you wanna sing it?"
Sweets nodded and they sang the song till the reached the edge of Dodge Junction
Sweets smiles as she and her sister enter Dodge Junction, Mint on the other hoof was a bit more nervous, the ponies smiled and greeted them with little fuss or trouble, Sweets enthusiastically waved back to them smiling wide, her recently acquired pet sat on her head sleeping. "So Minty wanna grab a bite to eat or just head straight to cherry picking?" Sweets asked smiling at her sister with excitement
Mint thought for a moment before giving her trademarked soft smile that would send every colt back in Fillydelphia into swooning hysteria, "let grab a quick bite to eat, I'm really hungry." she said her stomach growling a little, this caused her to blush in embarrassment.
"Okay, I'm pretty hungry too, so lets find a restaurant." Sweets said before they started walking around the small town till they came across a little diner it had an old west look to it but then again so did everything in the town "let's eat here." she suggested Mint nodded in agreement. The two sisters walked in and were greeted by an upbeat waiter
"Well howdy there little ones, you must be hungry." Said the waiter as he brought our heroines to their table "what can I get you two to eat?" he asked smiling
"Umm I'll have a hay sandwich no mayo, with a root beer." Sweets said smiling
"Umm I'll have the same only no pickles, or onions, and an apple juice to drink, please." Mint said softly not looking at the waiter
"Alright, I'll get your drinks first then it'll be about 5 minutes for your food." The waiter said dashing off to get their drinks
"Sis, the waiter is a little too happy, I don't like it." Mint said nervously
"I agree." Said Shy in Sweets head
"I'm sure he's just happy doing what he does." Sweets said reassuringly as the waiter gave them their drinks before dashing off again
Mint nodded "you're probably right as always."
"I can't wait to get to Ponyville!" Sweets said giggling in excitement
Mint became curious by that statement "If you can't wait then why don't we just go straight to Ponyville on the train from here?"
"Cause that's less fun, we're gonna take the train to Appaloosa, then head through the forest to Ponyville, it's more fun that way."
"I... I guess..." Mint said looking down, she knew her sister had a good heart and good intentions but just wasn't thinking practically, but she'd go along with her sister's plan for her sake
Sweets giggled as Scales crawled down her face, and onto the table "I'm so glad I picked you up." she said petting her little lizard
Mint smiles before Scales starts crawling towards her he goes onto her and sits on her head, even though Mint couldn't fly her wings still helped her so she stretched out her left wing and picked Scales up with it before placing Scales onto the table "he's not so bad." she said smiling softly, after about a minute more the waiter returned with our food, he gave us our food and refilled our drinks before dashing off yet again
Sweets smiled before she started to eat her sandwich savoring each bite "this is great!"
"it's pretty good ." Mint said plainly eating her sandwich
"Pretty Good?! I Bet It's Great!" Looney cheered in Sweets head'
"I don't know, I guess."
"Quiet you two." Sweets said aloud sternly Mint just seemed confused. after about 20 minutes our heroines finished their meals, they pad their bill and started walking to the cherry orchard
Mint was almost skipping down the path as they went to the orchard, Sweets hadn't seen Mint this happy this happy in a long time it made her smile "This is gonna be great!" she said hugging Mint
"I hope so." Mint said hugging back as they approached the orchard they were greeted by Cherry Jubilee
"Why hello there little tykes, my name is Cherry Jubilee." she said enthusiastically
"Hello ma'am, my name is Sweets, and this is my sister Mint Tear." Sweets said smiling "we're just stopping through on our way to Ponyville and we would be honored if you'd let us do a little cherry picking for a little bit."
"Oh Ponyville such a wonderful town with a bunch of nice ponies, you two fillies can pick all you want, I'll give you half of whatever you've picked to take with you, and a few bits." Cherry Jubilee said smiling before walking away
"Let's get picking." Mint said going to a tree and she started picking, Sweets joined her and they picked for about an hour before they decided, that was enough. They had picked about 6 trees together.
"I'm mighty impressed, you two worked hard, her have some lemonade, you deserve it, and as promised I'll give you half the cherries and a few bits each." Cherry Jubilee said giving Sweets and Mint each a glass of lemonade, and five bits, before walking away with the cherries to pack them
"She is really nice." Mint said giving her soft smile again
"Yeah, this was fun, hey Mint ?" Sweets asked smiling
"Yeah Sweets?"
"I was thinking maybe we won't stop in Appaloosa, we'll just go straight through the forest to Ponyville."
"I think that's a good idea."
"Yeah so we'll camp out tonight and head into the forest in the morning." Sweets said as Cherry Jubilee returned with a few jars of cherries
"Thank you for your hospitality Ms. Jubilee." Mint said tucking the jars into her bags, they hug Cherry Jubilee goodbye before they walked off to find a good place to camp for the night
