There exists many worlds within the void they inhabit.
This tale is of two such worlds mixing.
Sleeping under a tree was a familiar hero to the world that he resided in. He snored quietly to himself as he let loose a few well earned z’s after saving the world from destruction... again.
“Uwah.” He found himself abruptly roused from his peaceful slumber as he sleepily blinked and examined his surroundings and shrugged after seeing nothing unusual.
Falling back into his serene state of rest he allowed his mind to go free as dreams came unto him, “Free as the wind.” he mumbled to himself as he continued his peaceful relaxation.
CRAACK!
“What the?!” He was definitely awake now, “What’s going on?” he was actively scanning the area about himself before noticing something in the sky, “What in the world is that?” a series of black cracks were forming in the sky like a window slowly breaking. A single piece disappeared and from it emerged a black beam aimed directly at the hero, “Woah!” he shouted as he sidestepped the beam which penetrated the ground where he was standing, leaving a black aura rising from the impact site.
From the impact site a creature resembling a black sphere with an eye in the center of its head emerged, “What are you?” the hero demanded to know, “What? Forgot about me already?” he recognized the voice, “Mynx! Why are you here?” he angrily asked, “Oh calm down Sonic the swift, I come here not for aggression but with a message from a friend of mine in another world.” he clarified, “You? Friends?” Sonic asked confused since he remembered something Mynx said to him the last time he was here which was along the lines of “Friends? I could care less for something so insignificant!”.
“If you would be so kind as to stop having flashbacks I’d like to give you this recorded message from her.”
“Her?” Sonic thought as an image projected itself from Mynx’s singular eye which displayed a strange, sky blue pony of sorts, and she, if this was the friend Mynx mentioned, had wings but that wasn’t the strangest thing about her, nor was the rainbow mane and tail, or the violet eyes, or the black and red gem on the necklace she was wearing, it was the the fact that she was TALKING. Sure Sonic himself was a talking animal but he had never seen a talking horse before.
“Hey Mynx...” she said looking past the image to, presumably, Mynx, “... are you sure this thing works?” and Mynx’s voice came in quietly due being behind the camera, “Of course it’ll work. I’ll even deliver the message myself.” she then gave an “Ok” nod and looked to the screen and cleared her throat, “Alright listen here! I hear from my friend Mynx here...” she held an arm or more accurately a hoof off to the side to signify the presence of Mynx, “...that you are among some of the fastest things he has ever seen in any world. So I’m having him arrange a little competition for us. I’m really looking forward to meeting you. And leaving you in the dust!” after that declaration the image cut off and disappeared, “So Sonic the swift, do you accept this challenge from Spectrum Burst?”.
Sonic at first just stared, then he began to smile, but then that smile turned into a snicker, which in turn became flat out laughter, “Hehehehahahaha! Is this some kind of a joke?” he was bending over due to how hard he was laughing, “This! Haha! This horse thinks that it! That it can! Hahaha! That it can outrun me!?” Sonic was on the ground holding his hands to abdomen.
“So you refuse?”
“Of course!”
“Well that’s too bad.”
“What do you mean?” Sonic managed to finally suppress his laughter, “How is that ‘Too bad’? There wouldn’t be any challenge in it for me.” he stood up.
“I myself was looking forward to the competition.” Mynx turned into a black suited man wearing large shades and a headset, “But it looks like I won’t get to see it now.”
“I know your what your trying to do. It’s not going to work.” Sonic sharply declared.
“Oh do you now?”
“You’re not going to tempt me.”
“Afraid of failure Sonic the swift?”
“No, I just don’t see any challenge in the form of a talking horse.”
“She’s called a pony. A pegasus to be specific.”
“Pony. Horse. Pegasus. Makes no difference to me.”
“If you say so. I’ll just have to go back and tell her that you forfeit and she gets the title of fastest.” Mynx said while slowly vanishing, “Wait!”.
“Yes?”
“I know I’m probably walking into some trick of yours, but if she’s willing to compete for the title of fastest she must be really confident in her speed. You’ve got yourself a deal.” Sonic gave a thumbs up sign of approval, “Very well then. Go back to sleep and I’ll bring you to her.”
“What?”
“Just lie down under this tree again, and close your eyes.”
“Oookaay. If that’s what I need to do.” Sonic answered confused and as to the instructions given by Mynx, Sonic walked past him and lied down under the tree he was sleeping under earlier and closed his eyes.
“Wake up.”
“What?” Sonic opened his eyes to find himself in a seaside city with gently sloping hills and roads and buildings made mostly of some white stone, it was pretty similar to Apotos, “Where am I now?” he pondered, “I created this world to be a suitable place for ones with abilities like yours to compete.” Mynx’s voice faded in, “If you look around you’ll find Spectrum Burst, although the best place to look is up.”
“What does that mean?” no answer, “Great, just great.” he was irritated at the fact he was just ditched in an alternate dimension, “Well no point in just standing here, I’ve got a winged horse to find!” with that he took a pose to support his running start and bolted off so fast that the wind force trailing him took a full two seconds to reach the areas he ran past.
Sonic, now a blue streak of light, was searching (for the past three minutes) fruitlessly for what should’ve been an easy thing to find, a blue, winged, talking horse with rainbow colored hair! “Jeez, how could I have not found it already?” he asked himself annoyed, “Wait a sec!” he stopped with so much force that he left a fifteen foot skid mark on the ground where his heels were just sliding, “Mynx said that the best place to look is up.” with that he raised a hand to his eyes to shield them from the sun and looked up to find...
“Nothing. Tch, I should’ve expected as much. Just a rainbow... wait, what? A rainbow?” as he was lowering his gaze he saw what indeed looked like a rainbow streaking through the sky at high speed, “Well that’s not something you see everyday.” he put his hand down and continued, “A rainbow on a sunny day.” he held out one hand with the palm up, “It seems like this place hasn’t had any rain for quite a while. This seems to be worth investigating.” he took another position to prepare a running start and ran at speeds so great his footsteps were inaudible.
As Sonic approached he noticed something about the rainbow he was chasing, “Is that a... flying horse?” he looked at the the silhouette leading the rainbow which indeed resembled a horse. He continued pondering on this subject when suddenly he found himself rising off the ground on a path of light that was generating the leading area and erasing the trailing area as he ran along it, “Woah!” he found himself thinking that he wanted to get back on the ground ASAP, as he thought this he noticed at the same time that the trail was leading back to the ground, he then thought to himself, “Can I control this thing? Let’s find out. Up!” as he thought this the path began rising again, “Nice, now let’s catch that horse!”.
Skillfully controlling the light path he ran upon he managed to finally catch the flying horse, when he did he ran up beside it and whistled loudly to catch it’s attention and, understandably, it looked at him with a dumbstruck expression, “I didn’t know horses could fly.” Sonic said to it as it continued to stare at him, “And I didn’t know pincushions could run on air.” it answered with a snarky tone, “Touche.”
“So your that friend of Mynx’s?”
“Yeah.”
“How do you know him?”
“He saved our world from a Time Eater.”
“You needed his help to stop a Time Eater? Ha! I did that myself alongside myself!”
“What?”
“It’s hard to explain.” he answered, “How about we continue this little conversation on the ground?”.
“Why not?”
“Alright, let’s go!” he pointed forward and they both sped off towards the earth, both doing some fancy flips, loop-de-loops, and spins.
The pony landed first with grace, while Sonic as he was approaching the ground pulled up at the last moment and jumped off the light path, curled up, spun rapidly and landed in a kneeling position. She gave an approving whistle.
“Heh! If that simple stunt impressed you, I think you should just give up now, Spectrum Burst.” The pony shot him an angry glare, “Only one pony is allowed to call me that! The name’s Rainbow Dash!”
“That’s not what Mynx called you.”
“And I’m guessing your name’s not Sonic the swift.” Sonic gave a look that asked, “Please don’t call me that.”
“Just call me Sonic...” he slid his thumb across his chin and struck his signature thumbs up pose, “...Sonic the Hedgehog!”.

“I can’t believe it’s been two months since Mynx saved us all.” thought a cyan pegasus to herself as she flew leisurely through the skies of her world, leaving a rainbow streak in her wake.
“I wish we could see him again, too bad these gems he gave us don’t work!” she continued thinking to herself as she stopped to look at the black and red gem she had been wearing as a necklace since the incident. She gingerly pressed the gem to her forehead as if to make a wish, “If I could at least just talk to you, I’d have a chance to at least say “Thank you.”.” she let the gem drop down failing to notice the glimmer it now possessed, “Yeah and that’s about as likely to happen as Pinkie suddenly not wanting to party!” she answered herself before flying off.
“What is that?” she questioned aloud as she shaded her eyes with one hoof and looked into the skies a good distance, “A storm cloud? We didn’t schedule a storm today!” she stopped in her tracks to redirect herself to the storm, determined to do something to remove the storm cloud from the sky, but as she was about to give it a powerful buck it burst like a balloon and as she stared with her mouth agape she found herself suddenly surrounded by a multitude of black rifts.
“That doesn’t look good!” she thought aloud, then out of the rifts black spears began shooting out one after the other as she dodged again and again but she soon found herself caught in a cage of spears. Another rift, larger than the others, materialized before her and she braced for an inevitable spear. But it never came, instead an eye appeared within and a voice rang from it, “Long times of us be no company Spectrum Burst.”.
“Wait!” she thought to herself, “The only one who would even think of calling me that is...” she spoke the rest of the thought, “Mynx!” she was overjoyed to see an old friend like him and forgot about her current predicament, “No need of you be surprised, you were the one that called me here.” the eye looked at her with more focus and stated, “Me be of I should assist that you.” after those words were spoken the cage withdrew and disappeared as a grass covered platform appeared beneath her feet, “Please do so now take of seat you do.” thankful for the freedom, she did as he asked.
“So how are you doing Mynx? I haven’t seen you in two months! And why are you here?” she was talking with such joy that she almost failed to cut herself off after her last inquiry, and from the eye burst the form of a unicorn stallion with a black, smoke-like trail behind him as he flew to the platform and landed without a hitch, “I guess I could give some answers, one: I’m fine, two: I was busy preventing absolute inter-dimensional destruction, and three: When you put the gem to your head it sent me a message saying you wanted to see me once again.”.
Rainbow gave a light blush, “So you got that?”.
“Of course. I apologize for leaving so abruptly in such a way that prevented you from thanking me. It feels...” his eyes widened slightly as he realized what he was saying, “It feels strange to say this but I feel... good at the thought of being thanked.” Rainbow Dash approached him and put a friendly arm on his back, “It should always feel good to be thanked by others.” with a genuine smile Mynx looked her in the eyes, “I’m also here on other business.”.
“What kind of business?”
“It’s entirely personal, but I also sense that you’re desiring a good challenge.”
“As usual you can read us like open books, eh?” she was about to nudge him, but as she was about to she realized he was longer there and she almost fell over with nothing supporting her weight, “Woah.”.
She heard what sounded like something rapidly digging up through the platform and considering that the platform was at least a hundred-fifty feet off the ground the first things that came to mind as to what it was were either Mynx or Pinkie, it wouldn’t be the strangest place she’s popped up. These expectations were precisely why she was surprised at what did come through the ground, a blue, anthropomorphic... hedgehog or something, wearing red shoes with a white stripe crossing them and gold buckles on the sides, white gloves, and had emerald green eyes, this guy was definitely something else in terms of appearance. He looked to her and spoke, “Spectrum Burst...” she immediately realized it was Mynx, “... See this form before you and remember it. As this is the challenge I supply you with: Sonic the swift.” she gave him a questioning look, “Sonic... the swift?” she almost gave a smile whilst attempting to suppress light laughter, “Do not be fooled by appearances Spectrum Burst, as Sonic the swift here is among the fastest things I have ever bore witness to in any world. Fast enough to give you a run for your bits.”.
“Is that so?”
“Oh yes.”
“Well I guess I could try him out.”
“Try him out? It make it sound as if he’s some sort of product.”
“Did it sound like that? Oh well.”
“Since you accept this proposal, would you like to send a message accompanying the challenge request to Sonic the swift?” he looked like he was ready to leave, “Uhh sure, why not?” he withdrew from his “Ready to go!” pose and spun around, procuring a camera from who-knows-where, he then held it out and let it go, leaving it there to float in place and a red light turned on atop of it. With a somewhat disbelieving look and tone she asked, “Hey Mynx, are you sure this thing works?” he nodded and answered, “Of course it’ll work. I’ll even deliver the message myself.” he then held up a red, flashing sign that said “RECORDING!”. Seeing this she cleared her throat in preparation for her message, “Alright listen here! I hear from my friend Mynx here that you are among some of the fastest things he has ever seen in any world. So I’m having him arrange a little competition for us.” she put on a friendly smile, “I’m really looking forward to meeting you.” realizing that she probably didn’t get the whole message across with just that she decided to add, “And leaving you in the dust! What do you think of that Sonic the swift?” she then noticed that the recording sign was no longer illuminated, “When did it stop?” Mynx blandly answered this question with, “Right after you promised to leave him in the dust.” she gave an annoyed expression, “Why did it stop there?” he shrugged, “I guess not all cameras are made equal...” he lightly tapped the camera with his knuckles, “Either way I think you got enough to elicit a leave from me to deliver this message. I’ll be back momentarily.” He jumped a short distance skyward and what looked like air seemed to bend around him and he disappeared. A few moments passed and the effect occurred again and he emerged from it, “Wait long?” she gave an unamused look, “Did you really deliver it?”.
“Of course. I thought you knew that time runs at different rates in each world.”
“Oh.”
“He’s looking for you in the place I made for your competition.”
“How long?”
“At this point. About fifty seconds.”
“There’s no point in keeping him waiting, let’s go!”
“As you wish.” he blew quickly into her eyes to force a blink and when she open her eyes she was on a hill in some sort of coastal town, “Is this where you brought him?” Mynx’s voice rang in from seemingly nowhere, “Yes. You best get flying and look for him, he can’t naturally fly so keep your eyes on the ground.” she gave a nod of understanding and took a position to prep for takeoff, she then sprung up into the air with a loud “FWOOSH” and a bold streak of rainbow trailing her.
Rainbow Dash was scouring the ground from above for at least two minutes before wondering to herself, “Jeez how could I have not found him already?!” her thoughts were interrupted by a loud whistle coming from the direction opposite the one she was looking, “Mynx? Why is he here?” she thought to herself confused as she stared on at the form Mynx used earlier running next to her on seemingly thin air. It then spoke to her, “I didn’t know horses could fly.” this must be the real Sonic the swift as Mynx would never describe her as a horse, “And I didn’t know pincushions could run on air.” to this snarky comeback all he did was give a grin and say, “Touche.” he then asked a question she should’ve seen coming, “So your that friend of Mynx’s?” it was a friendly question so there was no real reason not to answer, “Yeah.”.
“So how do you know him?” that inquiry was also understandable, “He saved our world from a Time Eater.” it looked like like he was trying hold back a brief laugh, “You needed his help to stop a Time Eater? Ha! I did that myself alongside myself!”.
Wait, what? This guy’s taken down a Time Eater? Mynx himself said he would have trouble dealing with one on equal terms! Not only is this guy fast, he’s also really capable in combat! Wait a sec. Did he say “Alongside himself”? What is that supposed to mean? Really wanting an answer to these questions she found the single most perfect word to use, “What?” his grin quickly disappeared, “It’s hard to explain. How about we continue this little conversation on the ground?”.
“Why not?”
“Alright, let’s go!” Sonic the swift pointed forward and he and Rainbow Dash sped off towards the earth together, both doing some fancy ariel acrobatics on the way down.
Rainbow Dash landed first minding her footing and then looked up to see Sonic the swift running straight towards the ground, “At that rate you’re going to run straight into the ground!” Rainbow Dash thought to herself, but before she could do anything and just inches from the ground he pulled up sharply and leapt into the air, curled up, spun at high speeds, and landed on the ground kneeling. This impressive landing deserved some mark of approval so she gave a whistle. This evidently didn’t mix well with his ego, “Heh! If that simple stunt impressed you, I think you should just give up now, Spectrum Burst.” immediately Rainbow shot him a furious glare, “Only Mynx is allowed to call me that! My name is Rainbow Dash, Sonic the swift!” he looked at her as if to say, “Don’t call me that please.”.
“Just call me Sonic... Sonic the Hedgehog!” he was giving a thumbs up and the first thing to her mind was, “Aw jeez.”.
