Gumming a Tail

“Oh, thank you for reminding me, Angel Bunny!” Fluttershy whispered cheerfully. She ran past the door, but just as the rabbit expected, she came back only seconds later. “Really! I would’ve forgotten if you didn’t tell me!” she said, but was quickly reminded by the white animal that she had to go somewhere. “Oh, right,” she excused, then trotted back outside. Knowing she will arrive again and again, Angel slammed the door shut. Satisfied, he turned around, when- BUMP! The white rabbit sighed, turning around to find a clumsy Fluttershy, her face sticked to the window as she slowly slid down it, leaving an unpleasant sound. When she was finally off it, she shouted the hardest she could: “Angel, I forgot! I lost Gummy! Can you please find him while I’m gone? I’m supposed to give him back to Pinkie this afternoon!” … Though all of it came out as a bare whisper. She left afterwards, letting Angel Bunny finally at his own peace. Well, sort of.

The cuddly rabbit sighed. Why did he have to look over everything while she was gone? Wasn’t he just a poor animal just like all the others as well?

He angrily stomped the floor from while to while as he walked down to the kitchen, searching for a certain green alligator. Bunny never actually had much of a contact with that pet, but neither did most of the other animals too. What kind of mysterious animal was he?

No sign in the kitchen. He decided to go up, hoping he’d be somewhere in the bathroom or something. But still no sign of an alligator. Where could he be? Wondered Angel Bunny as he hopped to the next room. He didn’t like searching for too long, so he hoped he’d find that Gummy soon.

Arrived to the bedroom. Most animals went there to sleep on Fluttershy’s bed while she wasn’t there. It was so soft and comfy and... Concentrate. The white bunny shook his head, along with the thoughts passing in it. He went in the bed, looked under the pillows, blankets, everywhere. But no sign of any alligator.

As he was on the point of giving up, he had the idea of looking under the bed. Some of the weird animals Flutters owned liked to hide under the bed. Gummy was weird, too, wasn’t he?

By the way, was it a boy or a girl?!

Angel Bunny slowly leaned down, looking under the bed. It was complete darkness. Nothing really interesting under, so-

Angel jumped in fright and jumped back on the bed, hiding under the blankets. He was sure to have seen two big, creepy, purple eyes staring at him from under the bed. The bunny kept sighing and making fun of each of the animals that believed about monsters under their beds, but... Was he wrong?

Taking a sniff of courage, the rabbit shakily looked back down. The eyes were still there. Angel froze for a second, staring into them. Deep, giant, creepy, purple... Alligator eyes. Yes, by looking into the dark for a while, Angel Bunny was able to see an alligator body behind those purple eyes. So was this weird thing it? Was this Gummy?

The bunny let out a small “humph” as he jumped back to the ground, acting like he never was scared at all. ‘Come on, stupid alligator, the game is over. Come out.’ He ordered. Though, the reptile didn’t flinch. He didn’t even blink, actually. It was scaring Angel a bit, but he didn’t let it show. ‘I said: the game is over. Come over here!’ Still, Gummy didn’t move at all. Does he at least understand animal talk? Does he even talk? Angel Bunny wondered as he became impatient. He started nervously tapping his rear paw on the ground, as a sign of “I’m waiting.”

After a while of doing nothing than tapping and tapping, waiting for the reptile to move, Bunny was getting impatient. Gummy didn't move at all. He started to think that it was just a statue. But its breathing proved the contrary. ‘Get out here now or I’ll make you!’ the rabbit shouted. No answer. It was enough.

Angel plunged in the darkness, and behind the alligator. He started pushing it the hardest he could. That thing was either very heavy or holding itself in place very well. ‘MOVE!’ the bunny ordered once more, as he continued pushing. Drops of sweat started to make on his forehead. It wasn’t bringing him nowhere. This was useless.

‘Hey. Please. Just move.’ he started begging now. ‘I beg you, Gummy. Move.’

Miraculously, the alligator started walking out of the darkness. He stopped as soon as he was entirely out of the bed. Yes! Angel cheered inside his head. I did it! I finally did it!

‘Good job, Gummy! Now how about we go downstairs?’ he asked the alligator. It didn’t reply, though it seemed to obey. Bunny wasn’t sure if it could talk at all anymore, but he followed it as it slowly went down the stairs. When they were finally at the first floor, Angel Bunny noticed that Fluttershy wasn’t there yet, and that there was still tons of time before she came back. His tummy grumbling brought him an idea of what to do next. ‘Hey, alligator- um, I mean, Gummy, would you like to go eat something?’

The reptile turned around to stare deeply into the white bunny with its bright purple eyes once more. Angel was starting to feel uncomfortable. ‘Uh, could you just... Stop staring at me like that, okay?’ At those words, the alligator looked back down at the bunny’s tail. ‘Okay, that’s better.... Follow me.’

The rabbit turned around, but as he was about to start hopping, he felt something bite his tail. He turned around, seeing Gummy had grabbed his puffy tail and started gumming on it. So that’s where your name comes from, thought the bunny, smiling at the reptile.

He decided he’d find a way to walk slowly to the kitchen so Gummy could follow his tail.
