Spike the dragon took a deep breath of fresh air. It was truly a wonderful day in Ponyville, a day that Spike could actually enjoy with Twilight being far from home for a while because of some “princess-y brou-ha-ha” that the little dragon didn’t really care about. He certainly loved Twilight, but it could still be a treat when she wasn’t around, because that usually meant not having to help her with so many tasks or calm her down whenever one of her meltdowns started.

Spike just kept walking and humming to himself, wondering what he could do now that he had some time for himself… but that quickly became a moot point when something really weird and unnerving happened: a thud was heard from quite far away, a short little earthquake accompanying it; then another thud and another earthquake came very soon, this time louder and stronger, and it just kept happening again and again with a regular rhythm, getting much scarier each time. Spike could even swear there was also a sound of trees getting torn down accompanying every thud.
But that wasn’t the most alarming part: when the earthquakes were really starting to get so intense that Spike had to struggle to maintain his balance, the little dragon could also hear the sounds of terrified ponies running aimlessly and screaming at the top of their lungs, and after a few seconds he even saw a crowd of running ponies coming towards him, forcing him to leap out of the way in order not to get trampled.

“What the hay’s going on?!” Spike cried, now legitimately scared himself “Did another monster escape from Tartarus?” The answer to his question came in the form of a ginormous purple beast starting to appear on the horizon. Slowly and gracefully, the quadrupedal giant stomped towards Ponyville, carelessly crushing anything that was in its way. Every time it got closer, it actually looked more and more familiar… maybe too familiar…

“T-T-Twilight? No… it can’t be…”

The dragon had a very hard time finding the strength to look at the giant’s muzzle, he couldn’t believe that the pony he loved the most (along with Rarity of course) had actually turned into an enormous monster and even looked like she was taking sheer delight in being so terrifyingly gigantic! She was smiling, but it wasn’t her usual warm and friendly smile, it was actually the most malicious smirk that he had ever seen in his life, and with all the villains that he and his friends had to vanquish that was saying a lot!
A huge purple hoof, always so gracious and soft looking even as a destructive pillar, slowly rose and came down again on a little house, stepping on it like an insignificant mushroom and causing the scariest earthquake so far. But the most frightening thing was the giantess’ smirk turning into a satisfied grin, the cottage beneath her hoof seemed to give her an incredible pleasure, something that was even more emphasized by how she grinded her hoof on the destroyed building with her eyes closed in a blissful fashion.

Had Twilight gone crazy or was it some kind of very unfunny prank? Spike had no idea, and he did not even know what to do to find out, he could only stay where he was and stare at the humongous giant mare with an expression that could have looked kinda funny if he didn’t have tears running down his cheeks.

The giantess just kept trotting, thankfully not towards the place where Spike was. However there was something on her way that made the dragon feel truly alarmed: Applejack’s fruit stand, with its owner looking at Twilight with exactly the same expression of confusion and terror.
Even the orange earth pony could only stay where she was, unable to run or do anything even though her own life seriously risked to be ended by those gigantic hooves, not even when one of the front hooves was looming right above her and her stand… Spike looked away and heard a sound of cracked wood and a faint noise of squashed apples, but no sound of a pony being reduced to a mush, so he looked again and the hoof had indeed (barely) missed applejack, but it had stomped on her stand and destroyed it.
The enormous princess took another step, putting her hind hoof right on the remains of Applejack’s stand. The farmer woke up from her shock and desperately grabbed the giant hoof, a deafening and heartbreaking scream coming out of her impotent mouth: “TWILIGHT! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! HOW DID YOU GET SO BIG? WHY ARE YOU STEPPING ON EVERYPONY?”

The giantess raised the back hoof that Applejack was holding, looking at the earth pony with an expression that certainly didn’t look merciful or moved, she just cocked an eyebrow and smirked in a way that made her look curious and amused at the same time.

Applejack kept screaming and sobbing, caressing and nuzzling the hoof she was holding like she was desperately trying to wake up the loving friend inside of the evil and sadistic giantess: “PLEASE SUGARCUBE, STOP THIS MADNESS! YOU’RE MY FRIEND! I LOVE YOU!”

“I love you too, ‘sugarcube’! Just… not the same way” Twilight answered calmly. She still had her soft and gentle voice, but her size made it sound horribly booming and intimidating, and the mocking and malicious tone she had didn’t help at all.
The giant alicorn shook her hind hoof, making Applejack fall. Then she slowly put the same hoof right on the screaming little pony… and squashed her.

“Mmm… I love how squishy you feel under my lovely little hoofsie!”

Spike looked away again, resisting the urge to vomit but letting the tears flow freely, automatically repeating “No… no… no NO NO NO!”

That couldn’t be really Twilight… she was a monster who had used some evil spell to look like her, maybe a giant changeling! His alicorn friend would never squish a friend like a bug! He had to get out of there and get some help before that malevolent creature could…

“Oh, hi there, Spike!”

… find him.

The terrified little dragon turned around to look at where the booming voice came from and saw a huge and shiny purple eye looking at him, his reflection in the pupil showing him how scared and pathetic he truly looked. Then Twilight stood up in all of her glory, looking down at him with a naughty and kind of lustful smile, and she used her magic to levitate Spike until he was in front of her face again, this time without Twilight having to kneel.

“T-Twilight…” Spike stuttered “What’s happening? W-why…”

“Oh wait, let me guess: you’re wondering why I’m trotting instead of flying, aren’t you? Well, if I didn’t walk how could I possibly feel trees, houses and ponies under my hooves?” She moaned and licked her lips. “Mmm, I adore feeling crunchy trees and buildings, and ponies are so pleasantly squishy, I love it when they pop! Such delicious cuddles for my soles!”

“WHAT?! What are you talking about!? No, what I was going to ask is: is this some kind of joke? How come you’re so huge? And how could you be so cruel with Applejack? That… that was horrible!” Spike was actually sobbing this time.

Twilight chuckled and said: “Well, I suppose I should start from the beginning,” her voice was still unnaturally calm and almost seductive, it would have probably been a whisper if she hadn’t been so big, “during one of my studies I found a very difficult spell to do pretty much what Tirek did to Celestia and Luna. I tried it and, as you can see, it worked like a charm! Now I’m the biggest and most powerful princess ever!

“As for Applejack… well, what can I say, I’m a giantess now and everypony else is just a bug for me to step on, even those I used to call ‘friends’. By the way, on my way here I think I also stomped on Rarity. Talk about a… crush!” She winked and giggled at her own (honestly horrible) pun.

Spike started to cry even more intensely: “No… not Rarity! Twi… how could you?!”

The alicorn gave Spike a sassy scowl. “Which part of ‘I’m a giantess now’ did you not get? And you can dry your tears, you’re going to see Rarity and all the ponies I’ve squashed very soon!”

“What? No, you wouldn’t…”

“Aww, don’t be so scared, little one, my hooves are SOOO soft, you’re gonna love being stepped on by me! Besides, am I not your friend? Don’t you still love me? Then be a good friend and let me inebriate myself with the pleasure of squashing you!”

Twilight used her magic to keep Spike blocked on a spot on the ground, then she raised a deadly hoof full of debris and Celestia knew what else and let it loom over the dragon for a little while, her sassy smile turning into a grin made of the purest evil, a flame of power and cruelty burning in both of her eyes. Meanwhile, Spike tried desperately to struggle and beg Twilight not to crush him, but every attempt seemed to be futile.
The hoof started to come down slowly while Twilight maliciously boomed “Fee, fi, fo, fum!” Spike kept struggling and screaming as the hoof kept closer, until he could see nothing apart from the purple sole and the ground began to rumble around him…

***

“NOOOOOOO!”

The scream startled Apple Bloom, who almost spilled the potion she had just completed. It sounded like Spike’s voice, so the filly instinctively galloped towards the dragon’s bedroom, hoping a little child like her could help him just like Applejack did when she woke up so abruptly.
Apple Bloom found Spike sitting on his bed, panting with a blank expression on his face, the bags under his eyes showing that his sleep had been everything but peaceful.

“Spike, what’s wrong? You scared the hay outta me! Did you have a nightmare?”

“Huh? Um… yeah, I did…” Spike’s voice was very croaky and didn’t sound rested at all. “Sweet Celestia, I’m so glad that wasn’t real!”

“Ah know how it feels, Spike! Ah been havin’ trouble with bad dreams too recently.”

“I see… oh, wait, where’s Twilight?”

“She went to see my sister, she needed to talk to her about somethin’, meanwhile ah been practicin’ alchemy and ah’ve just finished a new potion, ah hope it works… ain’t it awesome to do the Twilight Time in this huge castle? My lessons with her feel totally different! Anyway, she decided not to wake you up since you were so tired yesterday… you wanna sleep some more?”

“Nah, I think I’ll get up… I don’t want to be in that nightmare again!”

“Oki dokie, if you need me ah’ll be looking for the last ingredients ah need.”

So Apple Bloom trotted towards the special room where Twilight kept herbs and other things used for potions, while Spike slowly staggered towards the dining room, hoping there was already something he could have for breakfast.
On the large shiny table there was Apple Bloom’s entire set of alembics, beakers and whatnot, but no sign of anything to eat or drink… until Spike spotted a glass of what clearly looked like orange juice.

“Oh, neat!” The sleepy dragon said. “I hope Bloom won’t mind if I drink it, there’s still plenty of it in the kitchen.”

Spike drank all the orange liquid in one sip… and then he gagged and dropped the glass, which miraculously didn’t break. That juice tasted terrible, maybe it was expired or something. But then Spike noticed something about the glass that his bleary eyes hadn’t spotted before: on its surface there was a small label that said “shrinking potion”.
Spike’s eye twitched. Was he still dreaming? He had to! He had already had a “dream within a dream” a few times... he pinched himself many times until his scaly skin hurt, but it all felt way too real. Then again, maybe the potion wasn’t going to work anyway, Apple Bloom was still a bit of a beginner after all… nope, in a few seconds the little dragon felt a strange itch all over his body and saw the table becoming even larger in front of his eyes, it kept growing and growing until he couldn’t see the tools on it anymore and it turned into what looked like an enormous palace designed by an architect with very strange tastes, or like some really odd mountain.

“NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” Even though Spike’s scream was much louder than the previous one, nopony heard him this time.

Meanwhile, Apple Bloom had found all the ingredients she needed for today’s second and last potion, so she put them in her little saddlebag and trotted back to the dining room.
To any normal sized pony, her chubby little hooves made barely audible sounds as she walked through the huge hallway, even with the omnipresent echo of the castle, but of course it wasn’t the same for the newly shrunken Spike, as Apple Bloom was coming closer he could feel the ground shake beneath his feet and he heard a series of thuds that got louder each time, like some sort of omen of a terrible fate.
Spike’s mind was invaded not only by fear for his life, but also by recent horrible memories… those earthquakes reminded him of the approaching giant Twilight from his nightmares, but since Apple Bloom was a little filly the quakes caused by her giant hooves were less intense, however that didn’t make them any less scary for poor Spike.

When Applejack’s little sister came in, Spike could take a look at her intimidating adorableness as her hooves kept causing little cataclysms.
Like almost everyone else, Spike thought Apple Bloom’s quick and mildly clumsy movements made her even cuter than she already was, just like most fillies of her age, but now that he was a tiny speck on the ground it was like time had slowed down, her movements weren’t so funny anymore, as she was stomping towards the table her short legs moved in a way that seemed to tell “Get out of my way, insignificant little bugs, I am a force of nature and if you try to come any closer you’ll become paste under my hooves!” And the deafening thuds that her sweet little hooves made whenever she took a step certainly didn’t help.
Spike tried to think as fast as he could, making an almost unreal effort not to let panic completely overwhelm him; Apple Bloom was coming right towards him, and if he just stood there he was going to become a pulp under one of her short and soft legs.

“Huh? What happened to the shrinkin’ potion?” The colossal filly wondered aloud. Her voice was no longer an adorable squeak, it sounded more like a loud and scary boom, the roar of a hungry and ferocious beast, and it almost hurt Spike’s ears. The voice of giant Twilight in his dream was certainly booming and frightening, but hearing a giant’s voice for real was different… and it came from a school-age little filly!

Apple Bloom started to trot a little faster, making the earthquakes even harder to bear for Spike, who kept losing his balance no matter how hard he tried to get out of the way of the little titan.
She was very, very close by now, Spike started to see her chin without being able to see her big orange eyes, a giant chubby hoof loomed over him like a small meteorite falling to announce the doomsday… luckily, the tiny dragon rolled out of its way just in time, feeling the ground shake like it never did before as the soft yellow pillar slammed dangerously close to him, making an earth-shattering thud that was even louder than Apple Bloom’s booming voice. Then the back hoof landed exactly in the same spot, giving Spike another scary sound and earthquake to endure.
Although in tears because of the scary experience, Spike spontaneously laughed in relief of having avoided getting squashed.

Apple Bloom looked at the fallen glass with the “shrinking potion” label with an extremely puzzled and confused expression. How could it have fallen? She swore she had put it in a safe position… on top of that, how come there was no sign of spilled liquid on the floor?
While the filly was asking herself these questions, the dragon she had almost trampled was running as far as possible from her after finally being able to stand up. As the giantess was looking down at the glass though, he kind of wondered whether it was a good idea or not to try to get her attention… Apple Bloom was sassy and stubborn but she was a sweet filly, maybe she wasn’t going to crush him even if she mistook him for a bug…
But then Spike started to notice more earthquakes, this time they sounded like eight giant hooves and they were even more intense, and both Apple Bloom and Spike’s meditations were interrupted by two voices chirping in unison: “Hi, Apple Bloom!”

Twilight Sparkle and Applejack walked into the room. Needless to say, to Spike they looked like two living mountains, stepping inside to intimidate him with their size and power… every time their titanic hooves landed, it actually did feel like a piece of mountain slamming on the ground, threatening to crush anyone who didn’t pay attention!
While the huge ponies where talking, Spike just remained where he was, glad to be far from where the titans where standing on, shaking like the tail of a rattlesnake and feeling like he was bouncing like a ball on the floor that the adult mares shook with their stomping.
If it wasn’t for the crushing fear that he felt, maybe he would have noticed the amusing irony of Applejack, the unlucky mare he had seen getting stomped on in his dream, being a humongous giantess along with Twilight…

“Oh, howdy sis, howdy Twilight!” Apple Bloom said cheerfully.

“So, how did your work go while I was away?” Twilight asked, her voice as soft as ever but still deafeningly loud for Spike, who felt just like he was listening to a more benevolent version of the monster from his nightmare.

“Um, pretty well,” Apple Bloom answered, “however there was a little… accident with the shrinkin’ potion… apparently ah didn’t put in a very safe spot so it fell and spilled its content, so ah’m afraid ah won’t be able to test that one today.” She grinned a bit nervously.

Twilight rolled her eyes as Applejack snickered. Her sister never missed a chance to have less work to do, but just like her she could also be a bad liar.

“Alright then,” Twilight grumbled, “so no testing the shrinking potion for now, but this means that this afternoon we won’t only have to test the ‘black coat, red mane’ potion but you will also have to make the shrinking potion again!”

Apple Bloom sighed in frustration when she realized that being vague about what happened to her shrinking potion (which was still a mystery to her) had ended up backfiring on her.

“OK, you can go home and take a break now,” Twilight continued, “I think your sister and I need to talk a little more.”

So the little filly said goodbye to the mares as she walked out of the castle to go back to Sweet Apple Acres.

“Say Twilight, have you seen Spike?” Applejack asked.

“Not yet, but I’m quite sure he’s still asleep. Remember how much he’s been partying and eating last night? The poor thing looked so tired… I just hope his full stomach didn’t give him nightmares!”

Even with the giants’ voices still being loud and scary, Spike felt kind of touched by Twilight’s words, the rampaging monster from his bad dream actually expressing concern for him was… actually rather ironic, but it did give him some strength to come up with a plan quickly: the two mares weren’t moving now, so the shrunken dragon could walk without losing his balance because of their devastating hooves and he also didn’t risk to be stepped on, so that was his chance to get close to them and try to get their attention somehow. Sure it was a risky move, but he couldn’t think of anything else at the moment.

Applejack was the closest giantess, so Spike decided to make a try with her first. He ran towards her hooves, covering his ears every time one of the titans spoke, especially Applejack since she wasn’t only closer but she also had a more powerful voice to begin with.
The giants were saying something about Discord and the way he acted at the gala, they both seemed to wonder whether releasing him was really a good idea in the end, even though he unwillingly gave Twilight her “key of magic”… while the Princess of Friendship seemed to give the Draconequus the benefit of the doubt, Applejack seemed to think that maybe Twilight would have found another way to get the key and preventing Discord from being a nuisance was impossible, no matter how much his antics seemed to amuse Celestia; they both admitted he was improving, but on the other hoof they also had to face the fact that he could still be rather annoying.

While that was going on, Spike got tired of running just when he was close enough to one of Applejack’s hind hooves, so he decided to take a break and try to call the huge pony yelling at the top of his lungs: “APPLEJAAACK! LOOK DOWN HEEERE!”

Nothing. His voice was so tiny that the earth pony did not even hear a little glimpse of his scream, and the fact she was still focused on the conversation certainly didn’t help.
Spike decided to go for a plan B: he yelled again, but this time knocking on the ginormous hoof like it was a door that he desperately needed to be opened. But that turned out to be a really bad idea…
The young dragon heard some kind of low rumbling sound behind him, so he turned around and saw the underside of Applejack’s other back hoof coming towards him. Yelping in terror, he leapt out of the way as fast as he could while the hoof scratched the one he had just hit, missing him by a hair.
The farmer pony scratching her hoof would have almost looked kind of cute at Spike’s normal size, but of course in his current situation it was another display of the monstrous power that he had to deal with. The amplified sound of the scratching motion reminded the dragon of the horrible fate he had narrowly avoided, and when she eventually stopped and put her raised hoof back on the ground, he once again felt the ground trembling beneath him and heard a thud that could have been accompanied by a squelch of his little body getting crushed.

Resisting the urge to assume the fetal position and sob uncontrollably, Spike tried to go where the front hooves were, maybe if he was closer to their ears they could hear his screams, or maybe they would look at the ground sooner or later… but on his way, he stumbled on a very unwelcome guest: a spider.
The eight-legged beast stared at the terrified dragon with its four inexpressive eyes, which almost had the same effect of a Cockatrice’s stare on Spike… until it tried to eat Spike like an insignificant little fly!
With a very quick reaction that was a surprise to himself as well, the dragon jumped right on the head of the monster and ran over its horrible body until he got right behind its large rear end, then he just ran for his life as the now furious spider turned around and chased him.
The desperate run lead Spike right beneath Twilight’s gigantic belly, and just when his short legs were starting to give up, he noticed that the purple giantess was raising a hind hoof like she was about to trot; the colossal hoof flew above Spike’s head, luckily not about to land where the running dragon was, but the same couldn’t be said about the spider.
Spike fell again because of the stomp of Twilight’s hoof, the thud caused by it accompanied by a disgusting sound that sounded squishy and crunchy at the same time.
The dragon turned around and saw that his feelings were accurate: some of the skinny little legs of the beast could be seen under Twilight’s soft hoof, and when she raised it again he saw the squashed spider stuck to the purple underside.

Meanwhile, Twilight raised an eyebrow and said: “Applejack… I think I’ve just stepped on a bug.”

The scene gave Spike mixed feelings: he sure was glad to be safe, and he owed his salvation to Twilight, but on the other hoof he had another flashback of his horrible nightmare… his huge friend had just trampled a living creature underhoof and killed it, and she was acting totally cool about it! There was such a confusing mix of feelings in his head that he couldn’t even move, he just stood there as Applejack answered: “A bug in yer fancy castle? That’s new!”

Twilight chuckled. “You know, bugs don’t really care about how classy the place is, they just…” When she turned her head to look at her back hoof, her eyes widened as she saw a weird speck on the floor, then she grimaced when she figured what it could be. “See? Here’s another one!”

Spike’s stomach turned into some kind of tornado when he noticed Twilight’s reaction, and he felt even worse when Applejack grimaced as well and said: “Alright then, let’s make it join its little squashed mate!”

Spike screamed like a Banshee, feeling waterfalls of tears running down his cheeks, then he did the only thing that could possibly save his life: he ran.
Twilight’s hoof slammed behind him and barely missed his little body, but thanks to the miracles that fear can bring, this time Spike managed not to fall and he was able to keep running.

“Come now,” Twilight boomed maliciously, “know your place, sweetie! You’re a little bug, I’m a huge pony, so I gotta stomp on you, it’s just the law of nature!”

Meanwhile, the alicorn was in a playful mood so she teased the “bug” on the ground by trotting very slowly, letting her hooves loom over the running little dragon and giving him time to avoid her devastating steps.
Spike felt once again like the evil giantess from his nightmare had taken a life of her own and ruthlessly replaced the sweet and affectionate Twilight, just like a Changeling. But what made it even worse was that she wasn’t alone, something he was quickly reminded of when a gigantic orange hoof stomped right in front of him and blocked his way.

“That’s right!” Applejack said as Spike bumped into the smooth surface of her hoof “Enough scampering around the castle, sugarcube! It’s time for you to meet my friend Kicks McGee!”

Then the giantess turned around and raised one of her back hooves to crush Spike… who kind of wondered why she wasn’t just using her front hoof, maybe deep inside Applejack liked showing off just as much as Rainbow Dash, either way he didn’t mind since that meant he had more time to avoid the impact of “Kicks McGee”, which felt like the end of the world.
Spike ran towards Applejack’s front hooves, jumping and waving his arms as he screamed: “APPLEJACK! PLEASE LOOK AT ME, I’M NOT A BUG, I’M SPIKE!”

Since Applejack was actually paying attention at the tiny purple being now, her ears finally caught a faint and strange sound coming from the insect… she had met (and trampled) many different bugs in her farm, but she had never seen one making such strange noises, so she stopped and her expression became a much more curious and puzzled one, much with Spike’s relief, who stopped running and hoped his nightmare was finally going to end even in the real world.

“Aww, look at the poor thing,” Twilight cooed as she stomped towards the purple bug, “it’s so tired it’s not even running anymore! Don’t worry little one, you’re going to rest for a very long time now!”

She slowly raised a hoof and started to bring it down on Spike, who no longer had the strength to run by then; he could only stare at the giant hoof that was coming down to squish him, his pupils shrinking in terror. The same hoof that had affectionately caressed him so many times was now an impending doom, rumbling as it got closer and closer… Spike closed his leaking eyes and crouched down, shaking like he never did before

But just when the dragon thought he was done for and Twilight’s hoof was almost touching him, Applejack suddenly snapped: “Twilight, wait!”

Twilight got startled by her friend’s voice and stopped with her hoof in mid-air as Applejack bowed to take a closer look at the bug.
Spike instinctively moved back a little when Applejack’s colossal muzzle slowly came down to see him. He saw no malice in her large green eyes, but still her face was so enormous he couldn’t help feeling his fear increasing as it came closer and closer, even because he could hear that intimidating rumbling sound once again, this time made even more unsettling by her breath, which not only made the rumble louder but also caused a hot gale that hit Spike’s little body.
Then Applejack started to smell him. Her sniffs were pretty short and fast, but to Spike they sounded like low and monstrous sounds, like he was being smelled by an ogre who was trying to check how tasty he could possibly be.

“SPIKE?!” The giantess yelled, almost making the dragon’s ears bleed and nearly turning him into a deaf creature for all eternity.

Twilight’s eyes widened as she quickly enveloped the tiny being in her magic and used telekinesis to bring it in front of her face.
Spike had an incredible ride when Twilight lifted him, he felt like he was flying higher and higher until he was reaching Cloudsdale and beyond! When he finally stopped going up he really had to avoid looking down, or else he would have seriously known how it feels to be afraid of heights, so he focused on the slightly (emphasis on “slightly”) less scary sight of Twilight’s enormous face.
Her eyes were just as shiny and intimidating as the ones of the giantess from Spike’s dream, again his reflection in the huge pupils showing him how utterly helpless he looked, but her expression wasn’t a naughty and malicious one, she just looked extremely surprised when she realized that the little thing was indeed her assistant. However, after the initial surprise, Twilight assumed a very stern expression which made Spike feel uneasy.

“What did you do this time? Did you play with the potions again?” The princess boomed coldly.

“NO, I DIDN’T!” Spike screamed in response “I ACCIDENTALLY DRANK APPLE BLOOM’S SHRINKING POTION, I WAS STILL HALF ASLEEP AND I THOUGHT IT WAS ORANGE JUICE AND…”

“Oh really?” Twilight interrupted him “First Apple Bloom says she spilled it, now you tell me this? Why doesn't anypony do as they're told and listen to me?!”

“Twilight, no more!” Applejack exclaimed putting a hoof on Twilight’s shoulder “Can’t you see how scared he is? You’re makin’ it worse for him, he needs yer love more than ever now!”

Twilight Sparkle calmed down and looked at Spike more closely: Applejack was right, the poor little dragon was now bawling his eyes out. The alicorn’s heart broke as her face started to look much sadder and more benevolent. It was time to make the situation less terrifying for her shrunken friend, and a good place to start was probably the position, so she raised a front hoof and slowly put Spike on its surface.

Spike felt his fear starting to decrease as he touched the plush and comfortable surface of Twilight’s sole… the same sole that had been looming over him and threatened to squish him, both in the twisted world inside of his head and in real life.
The fear diminished even more when Spike felt the warm and soft coat of Twilight’s muzzle gently rubbing him.

“Shhh, it’s okay, Spike,” the giantess whispered, “I’m sorry if I scared you so much, I just got upset and rather scared when I saw it was actually you… and I was…” She nearly chocked up “I was going to squash you!”

Applejack joined Twilight and started to nuzzle Spike along with them, both mare’s lips quivering and their eyes tearing up at the thought of having tried to step on their friend. “Ah’m sorry too, sugarcube! Ah bet you had the most horrible experience of your life, and the fault is ours!”

Spike dried his eyes and gently stroked both giants’ coat. “It’s alright girls, you didn’t know it was me.”

Twilight smiled. “I’m so glad you’re fine, Spike. But tell me, what happened really? Did Apple Bloom lie about spilling the potion?”

“Well, yeah, she kinda did… she wasn’t there when I drank the potion thinking it was orange juice, I accidentally dropped the glass before shrinking and when Bloom came back she saw the empty cup and no trace of the potion… I think she was confused, I doubt she wanted this to happen, she didn’t even notice me calling her name from the floor.”

“I see, Applejack and I will talk with her later, for now I’m glad we found you. And don’t worry, I can use my magic to make you grow again as soon as you ask.”

But Spike didn’t ask to be enlarged right away, he took some time to enjoy the almost unreal softness of his giant friends nuzzling him.
The nightmare was finally over. Twilight and Applejack had somehow grown even bigger than the monster from Spike’s dream and crushed it underhoof, replacing the terror with affection and friendship.
