> Chapter one. Our story begins.

It was day like any other. The sun was rising as the moon was setting. During this time ponies and other creature began to wake up. But a Batpony in particular began to wake up, his name was Nightwing.



*yawwwwwwn* Nightwing stretched as he began to wake up. He rubbed his eyes with his hoof to cease the irritation he felt from them. He removed his covers revealing his full body, his fur was dark grey, his mane and tail were a lighter shade of blue, and his eyes were blood red along with his pupils being split and dragon like instead of round. 

Nightwing walked over to the bathroom to begin his morning routine. Ten minutes later Nightwing came out of the bathroom with a bathrobe around his body. He walked up to his window and looked outside to the shining sun. As he saw it, he recalled the memory to why Nightwing was in Ponyville in the first place.



In the chambers of Princess Luna was a black bodied mare Alicorn with a light blue starry mane and tail, and matching blue eyes. Across from her stood our main character, Nightwing, with his mouth agape and a confused look on his face.

"I'm sorry Teach, I think I may have misheard you. What did you say?" Nightwing asked.

"Thou heard us correctly thy student." Luna said with an old equestrian voice. "Thou are to resume thy study's in the town known as Ponyville." 

"Okay, why am I supposed to resume my studies in Ponyville?" 

"Because thy Teacher wishes you to learn your studies with your friends." 

"I know that Comet tail lives in Ponyville, but last time I checked Flash lives in the Crystal empire."

"That's why thy teacher has assigned sir Flash sentry to be thou's  personal guard."

"Well I know that I just made a certain Alicorn Princess mad." Nightwing mumbled.

"Come again?" 

"Nothing, but even though I'm being moved to Ponyville where am I supposed to live?"

"We have assigned thou a house for you."

"What will I learn while I'm there?"

"The same things we taught thou, only in a different place."

"..."

"..."

"Your just doing this because Celestia did it to Twilight aren't you?" Nightwing flatted his brow.

"Um,uh, oh looks like thou has spent to much time talking." Luna said as she used her magic to lift Nightwing off the ground and out the door. "Thou must be off now, best if you get a early start on your journey. Bye." Luna said as she slammed the door shut.

"I wonder if she's doing this to get rid of me or trying to beat her sister?" Nightwing questioned. "Oh well, be best if I don't ask." Nightwing said as he walked down the hall.

When Nightwing was chosen as Luna's student he thought that it was because of two reasons. The first was that he thought Luna saw some potential in him and took him under her wing for him to study the ways of magic using his crystal that he had given him. The second, and the one that Nightwing thought was the most likely of the two, was to spite her older sister Celestia. 



Nightwing's house wasn't as fancy or as large as a mansion but it wasn't as small or as poor as a shack. In fact the house was pretty much in between the two. It was a two story house with three bedrooms, two master bathrooms, one kitchen with a fridge along with a freezer, oven, and stove. Along with a kitchen counter that separated it from the dining room and the living room. The living room had five large shelves that were filled with books along with a couch and two chairs to read in. When Nightwing had been sent to Ponyville, he was given the choice to have a custom house built just for him. Only catch was it had to be in Ponyville. So it was, or rather it was technically built in ponyville's jurisdiction, just built about two miles away from the town. The house had no backyard because it was built right back against a cliff.

"Well enough thinking about the past, I better go wake up Flash." Nightwing said out-loud as he walked away from the window and down the stairs. Once Nightwing was down the stairs he looked over to the dining room to see that the Royal Guard he was going to wake up was already up, and had set the table with breakfast. 

"Oh, I see your already up." Nightwing said Flash.

"Nice to see your up too Nightwing." Flash said as he turned to face Nightwing. Flash sentry had an orange fur coat, a blue spiked mane and tail, and matching blue eyes.

Nightwing pulled up a chair and sat down. Then he lifted up his hoof and a magical blue aura surrounded two plates as one was levitated to be set down in front of Nightwing and the other in front of Flash. Then a blue aura surrounded a spoonful of eggs, two pancakes, and a biscuit with jelly as they all were levitated to be set on the his plate.

"I will never get used to how you can do that." Flash said as he dug into his eggs. 

"Well I've already told you it's because of this." Nightwing said as he lifted up a piece of a crystal shard that was attached to his right hoof. "This crystal allows me to preform almost all forms of unicorn type magic. For the fifth time."

"Sorry, it's just that I was a bit surprised when I first saw you use that." 

"Yeah I know." 

After the two were done with their breakfast Nightwing used his magic to put the food away and put the dishes into the sink. Then Nightwing had hung up his bathrobe while Flash began to put on his golden armor. Once done the two were out the door.

"So what are you doing today Nightwing, magic training with Comet tail, a daring study on the Everfree Forest, perhaps a nice walk through Ponyville?" Flash asked.

"We're going to the Library so I can study." Nightwing said bluntly.

"Well that doesn't sound fun at all." 

"It's not supposed to be, but it has to be done."

"Come on, I know Princess Luna sent you here to continue your study's but you've got have some time for fun, I mean think about it maybe Princess Luna sent you here to have fun with friends?"

"Hahaha!" Nightwing laughed. "Are you kidding of course that's why she sent me here."

"Wait, what?"

"Listen, ever since I became Teach's student I always thought it was because she was jealous of how her Sister had a student, so she decided to pick me just to spite her."

"Well then what does that have to do with sending you here?" 

"Because Celstia sent Twilight here to learn about friendship, but I already have friends. You and Comet tail."

"But then why aren't you following her wishes?"

"To spite her." Nightwing said causing him and Flash to chuckle.

As soon as Nightwing and Flash walked up to the Library door Nightwing opened only for him to immediately close it.

"Why'd you do that?" Flash asked raising an eyebrow.

"You know what Flash, I think I'll take your advice for once and just relax today." Nightwing said hastily.

"What?" Flash asked suprised.

"Let's go see Comet tail and, ah, let's fly there so we don't waste time. Sound good? Great, lets go." Night said quickly as he flew off.

"Hey, wait up!" Flash shouted as he flew after Nightwing.




Twenty seconds ago.

As Nightwing opened the doors to the library, he saw a certain Pony he did not wish to see. Sitting across from Nightwing sat Princess Tailight Sparkle. And he was Not in the mood to see her. You see  when Nightwing was made  Luna's student it kinda ticked Twilight off. The reason why was because when she was made Celestias student she had to work really hard to get where she got, whereas Nightwing was just picked like he was drawn out of a top hat. 

Another reason was because Miss princess over there had a crush on the guard Flash sentry, and when she heard that he was selected as personal guard for Nightwing, it made her mad, no really mad. And that's why Twilight...disliked Nightwing.

So Nightwing did the most logical thing to do in his situation. Slam the door and run away like a screaming chicken. Ingenious.



Nightwing and Flash landed at Comet tails house. Comet tails house was a double layered wooden house with two windows next to the door. The house wasn't very big, it only had a bedroom, living room, kitchen, bathroom, and a dinning room.

"Okay spill, why did you run from the library like that?" Flash asked.

"Oh, well I decided that I should maybe listen to your advice for once and just relax." Nightwing answered with a fake smile.

"I don't believe you." Flash said."

"Yes you do." Nightwing said as he knocked on Comet tails door.

"Hold on I'm coming." A voice came from inside the house. A few moments later the door opened up revealing a pale yellow bodied Unicorn with a light/dark blue mane and tail, and matching eyes. 

"Nightwing? What are you doing here?" Comet tail asked.

"I've come here for another training day." Nightwing said.

"Why? Wouldn't you rather be reading a book in the library?"

"Yes, but I decided to have a change in heart now let's go train." 

With that Nightwing, and Flash and Comet tail following right behind him, trotted right behind the house. And behind the house was Comet tails patio, behind that was the backyard, behind that lied the Everfree Forest. Once everypony was in the backyard Nightwing asked, no, ordered Flash to guard the area while his magic training was going on.

"So, what spell do you want to learn today?" Comet tail asked.

"Hmmm, I'm thinking something...illusive." Nightwing said. 

Comet tail used his magic to levitate a book, that was in a cabinet on the patio, in front of him. He opened it up and began flipping through pages to find a spell that might interest Nightwing. 

"Ah, here we go." Comet tail said as he stopped at a page. He the showed Nightwing the spell he had in mind. 

"Afterimage?" Nightwing asked.

"Yes Afterimage." Comet tail said. "This spell allows its user to create a copy of itself that has a mind of it's own. However the copy is like a ghost, anything it wants to come in contact with will only pass through it. Allow me to do an explanation." 

Comet tails horn began to light up as he casted the spell. Then a cloud of smoke along with a *poof* came from his right. When the smoke cleared next to him stood a clone of the Comet tail. 

"Alright...uh, me, let's give Nightwing a show." Comet tail said.

"Right." The other Comet tail said as the two charged at Nightwing.

"This is to easy I already know which one of you is the clone and which one of you is the real one." Nightwing said as he flew behind the Comet tail on the left and threw a punch at him.

Only for it go straight through him."

"What?!" Nightwing said in shock.

Seeing an opportunity the Comet tail to his right charged his horn up and fired a beam at Nightwing, sending him flying backwards. Nightwing landed with a thud as the Comet tail he tried to hit vanished. Nightwing got up to face a Comet tail with a smug on his face.

"How did you do that?" Nightwing asked. "What other spell did you use?"

"I only used the Afterimage spell, you see the Afterimage spell created a copy of me where I once stood, whereas I teleported to the cloud of smoke, thus confusing you."

"I see, can you create multiple clones or just one?"

"Depends on the magic user." 

"Okay then, my turn to try." Nightwing said as his Crystal began to glow. 

Time passed on as Nightwing tried and tried again to get the spell down, but had no luck. Soon the sun had began to set and it was time to leave.

"So, did you have some fun?" Flash asked as he and Nightwing walked home.

"I have to admit that I did have a little fun, although I would have preferred the library." Nightwing said.

"Then why didn't you?"

"I already told you, because I decided to take your advice."

"I still don't believe that." 

"I knew you wouldn't." 

The two kept walking away, unaware of the fact they were about to meet a new vistor.
> Chapter two. An unexpected visitor part one

In Nightwing's house Nightwing and Flash were playing their annual chess game that they always played. And as dull as Flash looked, he was actually quite the formidable opponent. 

"Okay Flash I need you to be completely honest with the question I'm about to ask you." Nightwing said as his rook took Flash's pawn.

"Okay shoot away." Flash said as he move his knight.

"How come you always want me to relax?" 

"Because your my friend Nightwing, and we need to watch each other's back."

"Kay, just asking." Nightwing said as his bishop took Flash's knight.

"Now then moving away from that subject, what do you plan to do today?" Flash said as he moved His Bishop to take out one of Nightwing's pawns.

"Well I did have a plan to work on that afterimage spell Comet tail gave me, get some reading done at the library, but apparently Tech has other plans." Nightwing said as he moved his queen to capture Flash's bishop. "Ponies are saying that there are timberwolf sightings close to the borderline of the Everfree Forest and I'm supposed to investigate. Oh, and checkmate." 

Flash rubbed his chin with his hoof to see that his King was indeed, trapped. "Well, good game Nightwing. The scores now what, forty-three to forty-one?"

"Meh, somewhere in that range." Nightwing said as he used his magic to put away all the chess pieces. "Let's go get Comet tail, something tells me we might need some unicorn magic."

With that the two walked out the door and to Comet tails house. One hour later the two got Comet tail to come along and we're currently inside the Everfree Forest.

"So remind me again why where searching for timberwolf's, one of the most dangerous creatures in all of Equestria?" Comet tail asked, a bit of worry in his voice.

"Because Comet tail, there have been timberwolf sightings along the border and we're supposed to check it out." Nightwing said as he looked at Comet tail. "Don't tell me your scared, look at Flash he's not scared."

"He's a royal guard, their trained not to show fear." Comet tail pointed out.

"True but you don't see me scared." 

"You've probably done so many scary things that you can't feel fear."

"Again, true. Let's just keep walking and get this over with."

"And just what do you plan to do if we find a timberwolf?" 

"Simple, we let Flash deal with it."

"Oh that's reassuring." Comet tail said sarcastically.

The trio kept walking through the forest until Nightwing made them all come to a halt.

"What is it?" Flash asked. "Why'd we stop?"

"We stopped because this is the place were supposed to set up the the traps." 

"Traps?" Comet tail asked.

"Yeah to lure the Timberwolves away from the borderline. Oh, and there's three Timberwolves behind you."

"Three-what?" Comet tail asked as he turned around to face none other than, three snarling timberwolves.

"Ah!" Comet tail shrieked as he jumped into the air only for Flash to stand on his hand legs and caught Comet tail with his forelegs. 

"Eheh." Comet tail chuckled as Flash set him down and turned to Nightwing, who was still setting up the trap.

"What are your orders Nightwing?" Flash asked.

"Take them down quick and fast." Nightwing answered.

"Yes sir." Flash said as he turned back to the snarling imberwolves. 

Flash readied himself as he got into his fighting stance and then flew up into the air. The timberwolves gaze followed him as Flash soon came to a stop. He then put his two foreleg hooves together but left a little space between them. In the space between his hooves blue sparks began to fly as a blue electric-like ball began to form. When it was about the size of a soccer ball (size seven) he moved his forelegs away from the other, while the electric ball hovered above his right hoof.

Then Flash began to dive with his right foreleg in front of him. He dove down right on top of one of the timberwolves heads and when the electric ball came in contact with the timberwolves skull it exploded. 

BOOM!! 

All that could be seen was a blinding flash for a few seconds. When the flash had faded away all that remained of the once-were-timberwolves was now piles of burnt pieces of chipped and broken wood.

"What...just...happened?" Comet tail asked.

"Flash is a Lightning caster." Nightwing said, this time right next to Comet tail.

"A Lightning-what?" 

"A Lightning caster." Nightwing repeated. "Pegasi that have the ability to cast and control lightning."

"How?!" Comet tail yelled. "How can he do that, Pegasi don't have magic."

"All Ponies have magic inside of them, they just have different ways of using it. Unicorns, for example, channel magic through there horn. Pegasi channel magic through their wings, and Earth Ponies chanel magic through their hooves."

"But if Pegasi channel magic through their wings how come Flash channeled magic through his hooves?" 

"Flash is a descendent of a Sentinel, so he has lightning energy flowing inside of him." Nightwing explained. "Now on to more important things." Nightwing said as he walked over to the Timberwolves remains. "Like how these timberwolves are fakes."

"What makes you think they were fakes?" Flash asked.

"Two key points, one These timberwolves didn't produce any stink from their mouth like a normal timberwolf would, and two even though they were badly damaged these timberwolves would reform into at least one timberwolf and run away."

"Nightwing has a point, these timberwolves could be fake." Comet tail said. "So what do we do now?" 

"There's nothing we can do at the moment, so we'll head back until we come up with a better plan." Nightwing said as he began to hover in midair. "Flash carry Comet tail on your back so we don't have to walk through this forest."

"Got it." Flash said as he lifted Comet tail on his back and flew after Nightwing.



"What a day huh?" Flash asked Nightwing as the two entered their house. "Adventured into the Everfree forest, fought some Timberwolves, and got one step closer to finding out why Timberwolves have been sighted near the borderline. Really gets the blood pumping!"

"Do you thrive on adventure or something?" Nightwing asked.

"I wouldn't say thrive on it, but I do enjoy it." 

*knock,knock,knock* 

"I'll get it you stay put."

Nightwing walked up to the door and opened it to reveal an orange fur Pegasus with a light red mane and tail, and matching red eyes. But the interesting thing was his cutie mark, it was a red shield with a yellow lightning bolt over it. In fact his cutie mark wasn't the only strange thing about him, he looked almost exactly like Flash. The only difference was was his eye color and mane color.

The look-alike smiled at Nightwing. "Hi there my name is Lightning strike, and I'm looking for a Pegasus named Fl-" that was Lightning strike got to say as Nightwing did his signature, slam-the-door-in-your-face technique on Lightning strike.

"Who was at the door?" Flash asked.

"Some Pegasus that looked like you except he had red eyes, red mane and tail, and a different many style than you." Nightwing answered.

"Different mane and eyes...wait did you let him in?"

"No I slammed the door on him." Nightwing said. "Why? Was that bad?"

Flash rushed to the front door to see if his suspicions were true. Sure enough they were, when Flash had opened the door Lightning strike was still there. He smiled when he saw Flash and said something very unexpected.

"Hey brother, how's it going?" He asked.

"What?!" Nightwing yelled. "Flash did he just call you brother?" 

"Yeah...um, Nightwing meet my twin brother, Lightning strike." Flash said.

"Pleasure to meet you Mr. Shut-the-door-in-your-face." Lightning strike joked as he extended his hoof.

"No time for introductions, you two. Living room. Discussion. Now!" Nightwing yelled as he ran off.

"Is he always this bossy bro?" Lightning asked as he walked into the house.

"Not as much as you might think." Flash answered as the two sat on the couch. A few seconds later Nightwing returned to the living room with a notebook and quill entrapped in a blue aura.

"Now I want you tell me everything from the very beginning." Nightwing said as he dabbed the tip of the quill in ink. "And I mean the very beginning."

"You mean like when we were born?" Flash asked.

"Yeah let's start there." 

"Well it began seventeen years ago." Lightning strike said in a dramatic narrated voice.



Twenty three years ago in a hospital room.

A lone mare with a long light blue mane, matching eyes, and light/faded orange fur. A unicorn doctor wearing a surgery mask and hat walked into the room with two newborn baby's.

"Congratulations mrs. Flare, your a mother of two healthy twin Pegasus stallions." The doctor said as he levitated the two newborns to Flare. She grabbed the two of them and held them  close as she lifted the hoods off of them so she could see their faces. The newborn on her left had an orange coat that was darker than hers, red eyes, and a red mane and tail. 

"You look just like your father." Flare said as she nuzzled the newborns head.

"But you." She then turned her attention to the other newborn that had the same orange coat but had blue eyes, and a blue mane. "You look just like your mother."

"Miss, shall I let your family come in?" A nurse asked.

"Yes, I want them to see this." 

The nurse went outside the room only to return a few seconds later with two stallions and a mare following her. One of the stallions had a dark orange coat, red eyes, and a red mane. Another had a light blue coat, dark blue mane, and dark blue eyes. The mare had a silver coat, dark blue mane, and emerald eyes.

"This one looks just like you Fire." Flare said as she handed the red newborn to the stallion with red mane.

"He does." Fire said as he held the red maned newborn.

"But this one looks more like me." Flare said as she held the blue newborn.

"Congratulations sis." The dark blue stallion said.

"Thank you whirlwind."

"You'll be a wonderful mother I just know it." The silver mare said.

"And I know you'll be one too silver lining." 

"Well one can hope so." Silver lining said as she rubbed her belly.

"Excuse me." The doctor said as he trotted up to the family. "Sorry to interrupt but...there's something you might want to see."

"See what?" Fire asked.

The doctor took the two newborns and removed the blanket they were rapped in to reveal what the doctor was taking about."

"They...they have-" Whirlwind stuttered as he saw what the doctor was talking about.

"They have a cutie mark?!"

> Chapter three. An unexpected visitor part two

"And then the doctor removed the blanket to reveal. That we had cutie marks!" Lightning strike said dramatically.

"Really." Nightwing said as he face hoofed himself.

"What?"

"Don't worry about it bro, Nightwings just not the drama type." Flash said.

"Noted, anyways-"

"If your going to tell me that it was strange that you were born with acute mark, don't bother I already know the answer." Nightwing said.

"You do?" 

"Yes, the reason you were born with a lightning cutie mark was because the yellow lightning bolt is the symbol of a Lightning caster."

"How do you know that?"

"I read it in a book, now. We got the history out of the way, now on to more important things." Nightwing said as he put the quill and notebook away. "Like why your here." 

"Oh, I moved to ponyville yesterday and turns out, I'm your new next door neighbor." Lightning strike said.

"Luna dam it." Nightwing muttered. 

"What?"

"I mean, welcome to our neighborhood." Nightwing said as he shook Lightning strikes hoof. 'Note to self, kill Lightning strike and make it look accidental.'

"Well it's been fun, but Flash and I have some important work to do." Nightwing said as he levitated Lughtning strike out the door and dropped him on the porch. "Royal stuff and whatnot. Bye." Nightwing said as he slammed the door.

Nightwing turned his gaze back to Flash only for it to meet Flash's scowl.

"What?" Nightwing asked.

"Are you anti-social or something." Flash asked.

"No, but Teach does think I might have autism."

"I can see why."

"As can I." A voice came while startling Nightwing and Flash. 

"Who's there?" Flash demanded. "Where are you?"

"Why I'm right here." The voice said from behind Flash.

Flash and Nightwing both turned around to see a creature of...well mismatched creatures. He had a goat leg, a donkey leg, a red lizard-like tail with a fluff of white fur on the end of it, a lions paw as his right arm, an eagle talon as his left arm, a deer antler on one side of his head, a wavy horn on the other side of his head, a snake like body, the face of a pony, a fang on one side of mouth, a strand of a white beard on the other, two mismatched yellow eyes with red pupils, and two mismatched wings, one a bat wing the other a Pegasus wing.

"It'd be a shame if everypony forgot me." The creature said as he teleported behind Flash.

"Discord what are you doing here?" Flash asked the now know character.

"Oh a fan." Discord squealed as he snapped his eagle claw and disappeared while also teleporting a signed picture of him on Flash's hoof. Flash responded to the gesture by glaring at the picture.

"What? Not what you were expecting?" The picture of Discord asked as it came to life. With another snap of his eagle claw the picture vanished and Discord returned.

"What are you doing here Discord?" Flash asked again.

"You know, all you Royal guards are the same." Discord said as flew around Flash. "You always try your best not to show your emotions because if you did the enemy could use it as an advantage."

Flash responded once again by glaring at Discord.

"SEE!" Discord said as he threw his arms pointing to Flash. "You just proved my point."

"Enough stalling Discord." Nightwing interrupted. "Why are you here?"

"Oh of course we can't forget Nightwing." Discord said as he flew over to Nightwing and picked him up. "Ah, such a stallion of mystery. So many questions to be asked." Discord said as he cradled him in his eagle claw. "Like why did Lulu choose you to be her student, why did she give you that crystal so you can preform magic, did she choose you because she saw potential, or was it because of jealousy?" 

Discord then dropped Nightwing and put both of his arms on his hips. "I would know if a certain someone, didn't hid his chapter notes." Discord said to the sky.

For the last time, you cannot see the chapter notes!

"But why?" Discord whined.

Because you'll just spoil everything like you always do.

"No I don't."

"Discord who are talking to?" Nightwing asked as he rubbed his flank from being dropped.

"A being beyond the fourth wall Nightwing." Discord said as he turned his gaze back to the sky. "Alright listen you, I know that we haven't always gotten along but be a pal and at least tell me something."

"..."

"... Hello? Anyone there?"

"..."

"Oh I see how it is!" Discord growled. "Fine then, I'll just continue with the story."

"Who was he talking to?" Flash asked.

"He's Discord Flash." Nightwing said. "It's best not to question his logic."

"So, putting aside what just happened a minute ago, I believe you two had a question for me?"

"As a matter of fact we do." Nightwing said as he sat up. "Why are you here?"

"Well it all started ten thousand years ago, my soon father-to-be was walking down the park when out of nowhere came this beautiful Draconequus-"

"I meant why are you at are house!?" 

"I'm at your house because I teleported here." 

"Discord!"

"Alright, alright, the truth is I've come here to talk to you Nightwing-." Discord said as he snapped his eagle claw and in a right flash, Flash was gone. "-Alone."

"Flash!" Nightwing yelled as he glared back to Discord. "What did you do to him?"

"Calm down you vam-pony." Discord taunted. "I sent him to rek-don-val."

"Where's that?"



Meanwhile in Rek-don-val

"CESLESTIA DAMN IT DISCORD!" Flash yelled at the top of his lungs as he flew faster and faster, hoping to outrun the, about five hundred, pursuing creatures that had the body of wolfs, but large wings like pegasi. The flying wolves saw Flash as a tasty snack to eat and gave chase after him.



"Someplace...safe." Discord lied.

"Well he better be or you'll be sorry." Nightwing threatened.

"Don't worry, I assure you he's safe."

"I don't believe you."

"Can't imagine why." Discord shrugged. "Now on to why I came here, I need you to do me a favor."

"Why in Tartarus would I do you a favor?" 

"Because your the only one I can trust this favor with."

"What about Teach?" 

"If you mean Lulu, I can't if she doesn't agree she'll blab to her sister."

"Twilight?"

"Same scenario."

"And What makes you think I'll do it?"

"Because if you hear me out you might just do it."

Nightwing tapped his chin with his hoof as he pondered the thought of helping Discord. It was true that Discord had...improved on reforming, he was still a bit ruff on the edges.

*sigh*"Alright I'll here you out." Nightwing decided.

"Yippee!" Discord squealed as he did backflips in the air.

"But if I don't like how your plan sounds I'm dropping out of it." Nightwing glared at Discord. "Got it?"

"Crystal." 

"Alright, let's hear what you have to say?"

"Okay, *ahem* do you know how the Elements of Harmony where created?" Discord asked.

"Really, thats what you wanted to tell me? A question?"

"Just answer the question."

"Alright, the Elements of Harmony were created by the Tree of Harmony in the Everfree-"

BLLLLLLAAAAAAAMMMMM!!!

Discord interrupted Nightwing by blowing an airhorn right in front of his face. 

"WRONG ANSWER." Discord said in a game show voice.

"What!" Nightwing shouted. "I can't hear you over the ringing in my ears!'

"Hold on." Discord said as he snapped his lion paw and Nightwings hearing returned to normal. 

"Better, now what did you say?"

"I said wrong answer, the Elements of Harmony were not created by the Tree of Harmony."

"Then what created them?"

"I'm glad you asked Nightwing." Discord said as he snapped his eagle claw creating an instant classroom. Discord was now wearing a professors clothes. "Back then, about ten thousand years ago, there were two Alicorns, King Cosmos and Queen Galaxia. The two powerful creatures kept order and balance in the world. But as time went on the two realized that they would not be able to keep peace and harmony forever. So what was the solution you ask, they created the Tree of Harmony." Discord said as he made the classroom disappear.

"What does this have to do with your favor?" Nightwing asked. 

"Listen I'll just cut straight to the point, I want you to find an old set of Elements."

"....what?"

"I want you to find an old set-"

"I heard what you said, I want an explanation!" 

"You want to know the reason I want you to do this, fine I'll tell you why." Discord growled. "There are things out there Nightwing, dark things. Things that are no joke. All you ponies think your safe with you precious Elements of Harmony, but it won't be enough."

"What are saying Discord?" Nightwing asked, worry filled his voice.

"There's something coming Nightwing, Something that will be a threat to everything in the world, and the Elements of Harmony can't stop it." 

Nightwing could tell that Discord was no longer joking around, he was being serious. Deadly serious.

"So what do you want me to find?" Nightwing asked.

"These set of Elements are ones you've never heard of. There called the Elements of Chaos."



 
> Chapter four. An unexpected visitor part three

"The Elements of-what?!" Nightwing shrieked.

"What did I stutter I need you to find the Elements of Chaos." Discord said.

"But,but...how could there be Elements of Chaos?" Nightwing asked. "Arn't you the spirt of Chaos?"

"Was. I was the spirt of chaos, but thanks to Cosmos and Galaxia I'm no longer the spirt of Chaos." 

"King Cosmos and Queen Galaxia, what are talking about?!"

"Ten thousand years ago I used to rule all of Equestria, but then King Cosmos and Queen Galaxia used the Elements of Harmony to split me into seven elements of my own."

"..."

"Now I know this is a bit much to swallow-"

"A bit much to swallow?!" Nightwing yelled. "It sounds down right ludicrous!" 

"Nightwing."

"I mean come on, a threat to Equestria, another set of Elements, secrets and lies!"

"Good story development ya got here Storyteller." Discord said to the sky.

"AND WHO IN THE NAME OF EVERYTHING HOLY ARE YOU TALKING TO!!!" 

"It's called breaking the fourth wall, but please I need you to do this."

"Why me?!" Nightwing demanded. "Why can't you do it?!" 

"I wish I could but, King Cosmos put an enchantment on me that forbids me from ever touching the Elements."

"I'm sorry Discord." Nightwing said as he began to calm down. "But I can't do this favor of yours."

"Please Nightwing I need your help, your my only hope." 

"I'm sorry it's just...why do you even care about this threat?" Nightwing questioned. "Because last time I checked, you haven't exactly been all that much helpful in threats to Equestria."

"Fine you want to know why I care, it's because I care about my friends, that's why!" Discord yelled. "And I can't go to anyone else because I lost their trust!"

"...Discord."

"Triek promised me sometching better than Friendship, but all I did was loose the trust of my friends and everypony else." Discord croaked as his voice began to break. "I...I just want their trust back."

Nightwings gaze fell to the floor as Discord kept talking.

"Listen Nightwing, I know you don't believe me about this whole Elements of Chaos thing, but if you change your mind." Discord paused as he set a piece of paper on the dinning room. "One of them is somewhere near the Elder Sisters Castle." Discord said as he began to walk away. "I'm sorry for wasting your time." 

With that Discord walked out the door and closed it behind him. Nightwing rose his head to see the piece of paper Discord left.

*poof*

Nightwing turned around to see an angry Flash sentry flying straight at him with his right hoof extended and aimed right for Nightwings face. But before mr. Fist met mr. Face their meeting was interrupted as Nightwing ducked just in time so that Flash ran into the wall.

"Ow, owowowow." Flash whined as he clenched his right hoof. Once the throbbing pain could be ignored Flash landed and turned to Nightwing.

"Oh hey Nightwing." Flash said as he clenched his hoof. "Is Discord still here?" 

Nightwing used his magic to levitate the piece of paper that Discord had left on the table towards him. Nightwing looked at the paper gazing over it word by word.

"Nightwing?"

Nightwing looked up from the paper to face Flash and said, "Flash get some new armor on we're going on a field trip." Nightwing said.

"What, why?" Flash asked.

"Because Flash" Nightwing paused as he turned back to face Flash. "I said so."

Just as Nightwing was about to walk out the door a brilliant and devilish idea formed in Nightwings head.

"Hey Flash you know what?" 

"What?"

"Let's bring your twin brother with us, I bet he would love a little...hospitality." 

"Well we can ask him I guess."

"Great and while we're at it lets get Comet tail, he'll love it.



"I absolutely hate this." Comet tail complained. "I can't believe you guys dragged me on this trip."

"Oh, quit your whining Comet tail." Nightwing said.

"Yeah, this is supposed to be a fun trip, uh...Comet tail." Lightning said.

"Nightwings definition of 'fun' is sitting in a library reading a book." Comet tail said.

"Sad thing is he's right, but come on Comet tail, where's your sense of adventure? I know you have one, after all why else would you bring that saddle-bag?" Nightwing pointed to Comets saddle-bag.

"I brought my saddle-bag because I thought we might need it."

"Sure, that's the reason you brought it." Nightwing said sarcasticly.

"Can we all just please shut up for like...a minute?" Flash asked

"Oh yeah sure wouldn't want to distract you and get hit by one of these trees." Nightwing taunted.

"I'm asking because your all starting to give me a throbbing headache!" 

"Hey guys quick question." Lightning said as he was looking behind them.

"Yeah what?" Nightwing asked.

"What do you call a wooden creature that looks like a wolf?" 

"That's sounds more like a joke than a question."

"No I'm asking because there's five wooden wolves right behind us." 

The four ponies turned around and sure enough Lightning strike was right, there were five growling and snarling wooden wolf creatures behind them. Or Timberwolves as Comet tail, Nightwing and Flash called them.

"Lightning their called Timberwolves." Nightwing said.

"Well how was I supposed to know that?!" Lightning strike snapped.

"There known all through Ponyville it's impossible not to know what they are!" Comet tail yelled.

"Well excuse me but I literally just moved here about two hours ago!"

"Guys!" Flash yelled causing everyone to stop arguing. "Bicker later, we have Timberwolves to take down." 

"Oh right, Lightning strike do you know how to use lightning magic?" Nightwing asked.

"Well, yeah I know some of it." Lightning strike replied.

"Perfect, okay you and Flash attack from the air, while me and Comet tail attack them from the front. Got it?" 

"Got it." They all said in unison.

"Break!" 

Flash and Lighting flew up as the charged up their magic into their hooves and began to form a lightning ball. Meanwhile Comet tail and Nightwing were preparing their own magic for an attack.

"Hey Comet tail how come your not scared like before?" Nightwing asked. "Cause I thought you were afraid of Timberwolves?"

"Simple Nightwing, I said I'm afraid of Timberwolves." Comet tail said as his horn glowed brighter and brighter. 

"Yeah, so?"

"These aren't Timberwolves." Comet tail said as he released a magical energy beam at a Timberwolf causing it to explode upon impact.

"Nice shot." Nightwing said. "But I think you may have aggravated them."

The last four Timberwolves growled at Nightwing and Comet tail as they began to charge at the two. Nightwing fired a magical beam of his own at a Timberwolf and blew it up but the three other Timberwolves showed no sign of stopping.

"Anytime now guys!" Nightwing yelled as the Timberwolfes got closer.

and closer 

Nightwing and Comet tail shut their eyes tight as they awaited the oncoming pain from the Timberwolves.

But the pain never came, instead all that came was a sound,

BOOM!! 

He hesitated at first, but Nightwings curiosity got the better of him as  he opened his eyes to see what had produced the sound. Then he saw it, were the Timberwolves once stood was now a blacked mark spot with Timberwolf remains and with Flash sentry and Comet tail standing on the spot.

"Sorry we took so long." Flash said as he turned back to Comet tail and Nightwing. "It was harder than usual to create the Lightning ball." 

"Just be glad that I'm not angry enough to hit one of you." Nightwing said.

"Got it, by the way while we were up in the air I saw the Two Sisters Castle." 

"You did, where?" 

"About a mile that way." Flash answered as he pointed in front of them." 

"Okay then." Lightning strike said as he jumped in front of everyone. "Main four move out!" 

Lightning strike said as he ran off in the direction of the castle. 

"Come on let's follow him." Flash said as the main four ran after Lughtning.

One mile of walking and a few stop breaks later.

"So this is what the castle of the Two Sisters looks like huh?" Lightning strike said as he looked at the old and in ruins castle. "It's a dump."

"No duh captain obvious." Nightwing said.

"So what are we looking for exactly?" Comet tail asked.

Nightwing pulled out the piece of paper that Discord gave him as he read off of it.

"Unique looking gem, can't miss it." He read out-loud. 

"Well that simplifies things I guess." Comet tail said.

"Okay, Comet tail and I will look inside the castle while Flash and Lightning strike will look around outside."

"Got it." They all said in unison.

"Alright then, let's find us a gem." Nightwing said as they all got to work.



Meanwhile in a place that looked like a giant library.

*poof* in a bright flash of white light Discord had teleported himself to the library. In front of him was a old-timey big chair.

"Well I've done what you asked Storyteller." Discord said to the back of the chair.

"And they don't know of my plan?" A voice from the chair asked.

"No, but I still don't understand why you won't tell me your plan." Discord said. "I mean I can understand why you would want to keep it secret from them, but from your own family? That's cold cuz."

"I didn't tell you because you don't need to know."

"Don't need to know, Storyteller a threat is coming. A threat that is unlike anything we have ever seen, and even though I don't know what it is I don't need to be a genius to know its bad." 

"I'm sorry Discord but I can't tell you my plan or the threat that's coming."

Discord growled at Storyteller. "Why not!?" Discord shouted. "Your entire life you've always kept secrets, the very day you were born you kept secrets!" 

"For the last time Discord, I can't tell you anything." Storyteller said as he dabbed a quill in ink. "You already know enough."

"No, I don't know enough. Please Storyteller give me a hint, a clue, something, anything!" Discord pleaded.

Storyteller stopped writing as he thought about what Discord said.

"Storyteller!" Discord yelled.

"I said no!" Storyteller shouted. "Now leave, I have work to do."

Discord grumbled as he teleported out of the room and into a hallway. He stormed through the hallway in anger until he heard a voice.

*sigh* "When will you learn Discord?" A voice said making Discord stop dead in his tracks. "When Storyteller says no it means no."

"Really, hiding in the shadows and where I can only hear your voice? Cliché much?" Discord asked.

"Oh come now Discord." Another voice said. "If Storyteller doesn't want you to know his plan then it's probably for the best."

"Wait. Your telling me that none of you know what Storytellers plan is?" Discord asked.

"Sadly no, the only ones that know are him and his messenger." Another different voice said.

"This doesn't add up, I will found out what he's hiding no matter what?" Discord declared.

"...And you say were cliché."



"Find it yet?" Nightwing asked Comet tail.

"No, you?" Comet tail asked.

"Nothing, we've searched the whole room, so let's head to the next one." 

Nightwing and Comet tail began to leave the room and head to the one across from them. 

"So...how long have you known that Flash has a twin brother?" Comet tail asked Nightwing as he levitated some rubble up.

"To be honest, I think I may have known him for a while now." Nightwing answered.

"So does that mean you don't hate him?"

"My level for hate him has gone from 'I'll kill him when I can' to 'I'll get rid of him when he's lost usefulness'."



"I mean who does that?" Flash asked Lightning. "I mean you just show up, out of nowhere, and tell me your our new neighbor?! Who does that?" 

"To be honest, I probably  should have sent a letter to you." Lightning strike said as he rubbed the back of his head with his hoof. "Oops."

"Oops, ain't gonna fly with Nightwing, trust me."

"Speaking of which, I think Nightwing might hate me."

"Oh he does." 

"Yeah I guess your right it could be my immag-wait what?" 

"Nightwing does hate you."

"How do you know that?"

"Because he's my friend, and trust me when I say this, when he meets a pony for the first time he hates them." Flash chuckled. "Believe me I know from experience."

"How so?"

"When me and Nightwing first words were, and I quote. 'I don't know why, but I've only known you for a minute and I already don't like you'"

"Hahahaha!" Lighting burst out laughing. "Really he said that?" 

"Yep but over time Nightwing became a very good friend, he may not show it but he's always been a good friend."

"What about that unicorn fellow Comet tail?" 

"We both met Comet tail in Ponyville, ever since then we've all been best friends."

"So, do you think Nightwing and I will become friends if given time?"

"There's not a doubt in my mind." Flash said. "Say, speaking of the past. Where have you been? You told me you are a guard, but where?"

"In Manehatton, I worked there for a while then I heard you were living in Ponyville so I moved there."

"Still, you could have tried to tell us something."

"By the way how's our sister and our cousin?"

"Our Sis is fine, and our cousin is a Wonderbolt."

"Ah, right. He came to Manehatton for a show one day."

"Well, enough chit-chat. Let's get back to work."

And just like that hours rolled by as the two groups kept searching and searching but couldn't find the thing they were looking for. 

"Come on Lightning strike we've got to keep searching for it." Flash urged Lightning strike.

"Come on bro, we've searched all over the place and haven't found it, let's call it a day huh?" Lightning strike asked.

"Well maybe your right." 

"Of course I am, now let's go get Nightwing and Comet tail, and search again tomorrow." 

The two began to walk towards the castle when Flash came to a dead stop. Lightning strike turned back to his bother to see why he had stopped.

"What's wrong?" Lightning asked.

"I...I can't explain it, but I think we should dig up the ground over there." Flash pointed to the ground a few feet away from them.

"And why would we do that?" 

"Call it a hunch." Flash said as he trotted over to the ground and began to dig it up. 

"This is stupid." Lightning mumbled as he too walked over to the ground and began digging.





Nightwing decided that he had enough of the wild goose chase Discord sent him on, and decided to continue tomorrow. Both he and Comet tail were walking out the door to tell Flash and Lightning strike to it a day. But stopped himself when he saw that they were digging a hole for some odd reason.

"What are you two doing?" Comet tail asked.

"We're following Flash's hunch." Lightning strike answered. "No idea why though, I mean why would the thing we're looking for be buried in the-"

"Found it!" Flash yelled from the hole.

"I stand corrected." Lightning strike said.

Nightwing and Comet tail rushed over to the hole that was about a foot deep. Inside was a Flash sentry covered in dirt and grass, and at the center of the hole. A gem. A gem with the shape of a crystal shard that was black, no, pitch black.

"Well looks like we got what we came for." Nightwing said as he reached for the gem. "Now let's go home and-" Nightwing cut off as soon as he came in contact with the gem.

Images rolled through his head so fast he couldn't see them right. But  then some images became clear and easy to see. The first image he saw was one of King Sombra on the balcony of the crystal empires castle looking down on Crystal pony slaves, the next image was one of Nightmare moon looking triumphant over a motionless Celestia, then an image of a shooting star became visible as hit Equestria.

Then came voices, voices that were ghost-like. Each one saying something over the other.

"Your world is doomed."
"It will end in fire and blood."
"All hope will die, along with your kind."
"This world will End and It will destroy all you love!"

As the words faded a image of nightwing dead with a sword in his chest appeared in front of him. His eyes went wide in shock, only to tightly shut as he tried to reject the image.

"Gah!" Nightwing yelled as he let go of the Crystal. He began to breath heavily as he stumbled backwards.

"Whoa, you okay Nightwing?" Comet tail asked.

"Yeah, you don't look so good." Lightning strike added.

Nightwing looked at both of them in confusion, then he looked back to the gem only to see Flash reaching for it.

"Flash wait, don't-" Nightwing tried to stop Flash, but it was to late he picked up the gem and seemed...unaffected.

"Pick, up...the gem?" Nightwing finished as he became confused as to why Flash could pick up the gem without seeing the images. Flash flew out of the hole and put the gem in Comet tails backpack that he had brought along for the trip.

"You heard Nightwing guys let's head home." Flash said as the four began to walk home.

Along the way the four never encountered any Timberwolves along the way, in fact. They didn't hear or see a single creature on the way back home. Once the group got home Flash took the gem from Comet tail and set in the 'Vault'. The Vault was a secure storage place where Nightwing kept all of his dangerous magical artifacts he gathered.

Once Flash had set the gem in the Vault he locked it up, and went to his room to get some sleep. Meanwhile Nightwing sat on the couch thinking about the images he saw when he touched the gem.

"Oh, Teach. What have I gotten myself into?"Nightwing said to himself.

"You've gotten yourself into a very juices story Nightwing." A very annoying voice said.

'Buck me.' Nightwing thought. "What do you want Discord?" Nightwing asked the Draconequus that was hovering in front of Nightwing.

"Well if you must know I've come to see how things have gone with the-" Discord paused as he looked around to make sure they were alone. "You-know-what." 

"I'll tell you, but only if you tell me more about these...other Elements of yours."

Discord squealed in delight like a school girl filly when he heard Nightwing say that. "Oh, you have a craving for knowledge. No wonder Lulu chose you to be her student." 

With a snap of his eagle claw a book hovered over his hand. "This book contains everything you need to know about the Elements." Discord said, Nightwing was about to grab it but Discord pulled it away before he could do that.

"Ah ah ah." Discord taunted as he waved his lion pawn finger back and forth. "You get the book after I see the gem." Discord said.

"Fine." Nightwing grumbled as he began to punch in the code to the Vault.

"Pheeeew." Discord whistled. "This is one heavy duty safe, I don't even think my magic could break into it."

"Let's hope not." Nightwing mumbled as he punched in the last number. The Vaults door slowly opened as it revealed all of Nightwing's magical artifacts.

"Wow." Discord chuckled. "There's enough magical artifacts in here to level all of Equestria. But where did you put-" 

Discord cut himself off when he saw the gem at the end of the room.

"There you are." Discord said as he flew over to the gem to get a good look at it.

"Ugh." Discord said in disgust. "Looks like Cosmos wasn't gifted in art I see." Discord said as he snapped his eagle claw and the gem changed from a crystal shard to an oval shaped gem.

"Ah much better."

"Wait a second, I thought you said you couldn't touch the Chaos Elements?" Nightwing questioned.

"First, even if I did say that I meant I can't use its power. Second, I didn't touch it I used my chaos magic to simply change its shape. And third, here's the book." Discord said as he snapped his lions paw and the book land in front of Nightwing. 

"Also Discord why do you want to do with the Elements of-" Nightwing cut himself off to see Discord was gone. He looked all over but there was no sign of him anywhere. Nightwing sighed As he levitated up the book Discord gave him and walked out of the Vault.

Nightwing then locked it up, sat down on the couch, opened up Discords book, and began to read.


'Chapter one, how the Elements of Chaos came to be

First base never had a normal life, ever since he was born it was always strange. First his mother and father were both unicorns yet he was a Pegasus. Second he was a prince because his mom and dad where the king and queen of their kingdom. And third their wold was being destroyed by an evil being that wanted to rule the world. 

And currently First base is in front of his family in a room with a portal.

"I'm sorry what did you just say?" A grown up Pegasus with a light yellow fur, green mane, and blue eyes, and name was First base asked his two parents.

"You heard us, we're sending you to a parallel universe where you can be safe." Comet tail said.

"Your fathers right, anytime now Shining armor and his guards won't be able to hold off...you-know-who and they will kill us all." Twilight sparkle said.

"I understand that, but I don't understand why you two can't come with me."

"We can't because the universe were sending you to already has a Comet tail and Twilight sparkle, but it doesn't have you so it's safe for you to go there."

"I can't do this, no, I won't do this!" First base yelled. "This place is my home, and your my family. I want to die here with my family, not run away from it!" First base cried out as tears began to swell in his eyes.

"We know son." Comet tail said as he rested a hoof on his sons shoulder and lifted up his chin. "That's why we're not giving you a choice."

With a sleep spell Comet tail had put First base to sleep and carried him to the magic mirror.

"I'm so sorry son." Comet tail said as Twilight activated the mirror. "Please forgive me." Comet tail then threw First base at the mirror as he paced through it and vanished. 

Comet tails head dropped as the shame and guilt began to build up inside of him. Twilight trotted over to her husband's side and began to comfort him. 

But the loving reunion was shortly lived as the doors were literarily blown open and a shadowy figure appeared. Both Comet tail and Twilight looked to the figure with anger on their faces.

"Ya know I really wonder why you guys even bother letting these guards try to take me down." The figure said. " I mean, take this fellow for example." He said as he threw a unicorn stallion with white fur, a blue mane, and blue eyes at them. "He lasted a flat ten seconds."

"Coward." Comet tail said to the figure. "How dare you take over our friends and use them as puppets."

"What's the matter Comet tail?" The figure asked as he became visible and revealed a Flash sentry, but his eyes were fully red. "Aren't you happy to see your friend."

"If your talking about Flash sentry demon. Then your mistaken, because I know Flash and he would rather die than be controlled by you."

"See that's where your wrong Comet tail." The evil Flash sentry smiled. "When I try to take over my host I don't give them a choice."

"Well just know, that just because you took over Flash doesn't mean I'll hold back!" Comet tail yelled as he summoned a magical sword that flew at the evil Flash.

"Oh please." The evil Flash chuckled as the sword disappeared with a wave of his hoof. "Your magic is nothing compared to mine."

With another wave of his hoof Flash destroyed Comet tails horn and sent him flying.

"Comet tail!" Twilight yelled as she rushed to his fallen body.

"Ah, love." The evil Flash cooed as he placed a hoof on his chest. "So beautiful."

Twi-twilight...r-run-" That was all Comet tail could say as a red sword pierced his heart.

"And yet so weak, and pitiful." The evil Flash chuckled.

"Comet tail, no, please no." Twilight began to cry. 

"Oh don't worry Twilight." The evil Flash said as he walked towards Twilight. "You will be joining him soon." The evil Flash said as he was now towering over Twilight.

"But first I Want to say hi to First base, speaking of which where is the little rascal, Uncle Flash wants to spend some quality time with his nephew."

"He's gone somewhere not even you can follow." 

"If your talking about heaven the place doesn't exist so-" The evil Flash stopped himself as his attention was drawn to the mirror in the center of the room.

"Oh, somehow I didn't notice that." The evil Flash said as grabbed Twilight by the neck and pinned her to the floor. 

"WHERE IS HE!" Evil Flash's voice changed from normal to a demon like one. "WHERE HAVE SENT HIM?!"

"Flash..." Twilight gasped. "I'm sorry."

"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT YOU WIT-" 

BOOOOOOOMMMMMMM!!!!!! The castle exploded as the entire thing was blown to absolutely nothing. All that remained was an evil Flash sentry hovering in mid air. His face full of anger, he reared his head back and did the most reasonable thing to do in his situation.

"Curse you Comet tail and Twilight, curse you both!" The evil Flash screamed at sky.



Meanwhile in the town of Ponyville. A young pink mare was trotting around when all of sudden her head started moving left and right very fast and uncontrollably.

"Ooh that's a new one." The pink mare said as she bounced off in a different dicrection



In a grassy forest, out of nowhere, a swirling portal opened up and First base fell out. Then the portal disappeared and First base began to wake up. 

"Uhgggughg." He said groggily. "What the?" He said as he looked around the area. Then it all came flooding back to his mind.

"Oh no, nonononono." First base started running around in circles as he realized what had happened. Then came the breakdown.

First up was anger.

"I can't believe they did that to me! My own parents put me to sleep and just shoved me straight through a portal!"

Second was worry.

"What if this universe is worse than the one I was in, what if it turns out this place is populated by pony eating zombies!"

And third was sadness.

"I WANT MY MOMMY!" First base whined.

"Get ahold of yourself pony!" First base said as he smacked his face. "Your a stallion for Celestia's sake! Act like one!" First base said to himself as he began marching forward.

"Your not just a stallion but your a prince, and I need to act like one no matter what happen-" First base cut himself off as he stared at a reflection in the pond next to him.

"Holy buck! I'm a colt?!?!" First base yelled.

That wasn't the only thing that had changed about First base. His wings were gone.

"And I'm a Earth pony?!?!" First base screamed as he held his face with his hooves. "WHAT THE BUCK IS HAPPENING?!?!"

*smack,smack* First base smacked himself two times to get his brain and thoughts straight.

"Okay First, you can do this." First base said to himself. "Just find the nearest town and blend in."

"Hi!" A shrill and high voice said from the tree behind First. 

"Ahh!" First base yelled as he jumped into the air and fell into someponys hooves. First looked up to see the pony that caught him was a pink mare with a poofy mane.

"Pinkie?" First base asked.

"Whoa, you know my name!" The sugar high mare said as she got right up against First base's face. "Are you psychic?"

"What, no. Pinkie it's me First base."

"First base huh?" Pinkie said as she dropped First base and pulled a notebook out of, who knows where. "First base, first base, first base, first base, First base." Pinkie said over and over as she flipped through pages.

"Nope no First base here. *gasp*" Pinkie gasped as she jumped into the air. "That means your new here, which means I need to throw you a 'welcome-to-Ponyvile party and-hey aren't you supposed to be in school?" 

"Ummm...yes?" First base said, so confused by what was happening.

"That's what I thought." Pinkie said as she grabbed First base and planted him on her back. "Hold on to something First base were traveling cannon style!"

"Wait-what?" First base asked as he was somehow strapped to a Pinkies back and was in a large cannon full of dynamite.

"Fire in the hole!" Pinkie yelled.

"Mercy." First base squeaked.

BOOM! The cannon went as the two were sent flying into the sky.

"Buuuuuuuuuuuck!" First base yelled only to get a bar of soap shoved into his mouth by Pinkie.

"Language young colt." Pinkie said.

'Colt?' First base thought as he realized what Pinkie said. 'Oh that's right, this is a parallel universe so Pinkie probably doesn't know who I am yet."

"Brace yourself Firsty, were coming in for a landing." Pinkie said as the ground got closer and closer.

'Buck.' First base said in his mind not wanting another bar of soap in his mouth. He shut his eyes tight waiting for them to hit the ground and go splat, but it never came.

"Firsty why do you have your eyes closed?" Pinkie asked.

First base slowly opened one of his eyes to see that the two where safely on the ground, and First base was next to Pinkie and not strapped to her.

"Oh sweet merciful ground." First base praised as he began kissing the ground. 

"Sorry to be the third wheel right now but you have class." Pinkie said as she grabbed First base by the neck and dragged him towards the school. "Helloooooo cheerily!" Pinkie sang as she burst through the school door, interupting a dark purple mare with a pink mane.

"Pinkie?" Cheerily said in shock as the pink mare trotted in. "Pinkie if your here to ring the school bell your supposed to do that tomorrow."

"Oh I'm not here for that, I'm here because I have a student of yours." Pinkie said as she plopped First base in front of Cheerily. "Be sure to fill his head with tons of knowledge." Pinkie said as she whizzed away. Leaving the entire classroom stunned.

"Well...class it appears we have a new student." Cheerily said. "Tell us young one what's your name?"

First base turned to face the entire classroom eyes were all on him. 

'Okay First base you got this, just play it cool and you'll survive.' First base thought as he cleared his throat. "Hi, my name is First base and it's a pleasure to meet you all." 'Nailed it.'

"Well First base its a pleasure to meet you please take a seat." Cheerily said.

First base scanned the room for an open seat somewhere when he spotted one, he walked over to it and asked the colt next to the empty desk if it was taken.

"Oh it's not taken at all Mate." The white with brown spotted earth pony said. 

"Thanks, I'm First base by the way." First base said as he extended his hoof.

"Names Pipsqueak, but friends call me Pip. And the Pegasus bloke to your left is me friend Rumble." 

First base turned his head to see a grey Pegasus colt with a black mane. Oh and was fast asleep.

"Uhhhh, hi...Rumble." First base said as he shook Rumbles shoulder.

"Don't bother mate, only thing that wakes that colt up is the school bell."

"Pipsqueak?" Cheerily asked.

"Uh, yes ms. Cheerily." Pip said nervously.

"Can you tell us who built the first train?"

"Um,uh...well-" Pipsqueak stuttered as he tried to thing of an answer. But First base came to the rescue.

"Um, ms. Cheerily?" First base asked.

"Yes First base." 

"Is it okay if I answer for Pipsqueak?"

"Well, I guess we can let the new student answer his first question."

"Thank you, the first train was built by sir steam smith, a mechanical engineer that found a way to make wheels and gears move by burning coal."

"That's correct First base." 

"How did you know that?" Pipsqueak asked in shock and amazement.

"Oh, um...lucky guess?" First base said with a fake smile and rubbed the back of his neck with his hoof.

"Well whatever it was you saved me neck and I thank you for that, you can call me friend anytime."

"We're...friends?"

"You bet we are mate." 

"Gee thanks Pipsque-"

Riiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnngggggggg. The school bell went. 

Just as the school bell rang Rumbles head popped up like a hunting dog that had caught a whiff of fresh meat. He turned to see First base and Pipsqueak.

"Who's the new guy?" Rumble asked. 



"Hey I wanna thank you again for helping Pip like that." Rumble said as he First base and Pipsqueak all walked towards launch table outside.

"It's no big deal really I just answered a simple question." First base said.

"Yeah but, no one has ever done something like that for me 'xept Rumble of course." Pipsqueak said.

The trio sat down at the lunch table and Pip and Rumble brought out their lunch bags and dumped out their food.

"Hey where's your lunch bag Base?" Pip asked.

First base mentally kicked himself for not asking his mom for not packing him any food.

"Um...well...you see thing is..." First base thought until he came up with the perfect plan for how to play this out. "You see, my parents died in a fire at my house and I ran away to ponyville and I, kinda don't have anymore."

"Ya hear that Rumble, our Friend Base here is an orphaned like me!" Pipsqueak squealed. 

"Base say no more, here you can have half of my peanut butter and jelly sandwich." Rumble offered.

"And you can have my bag of potato chips." Pip offered.

"Wow, thanks guys." First base said.

"Don't mention it." Rumble and Pipsqueak said in unison.

"Just what do you think your doing?" A voice far behind them asked.

The trio turned around to see two earth pony fillies, one light pink the other gray, glaring at three other fillies, one an earth pony, another a Pegasus, and the other a unicorn.

"We're eating lunch Dimond tiara." The pink earth pony said.

"I can see that, but what are you doing eating at my table?" Tiara demanded.

"It's not just your table tiara!" The unicorn said.

"Yeah, you can't just claim stuff that doesn't belong to you!" The Pegasus said.

"Well guess what blank flanks?" The grey earth pony said. 

"We can do whatever we want!" The two earth ponies said in unison.

First base had heard enough of what was happening and decided to stop it. Without a second thought First base got up from the table and began walking towards the arguing fillies. 

"Um, Base what are doing?" Rumble asked.

"Im going to put a stop to those two bully's." First base said.

"What?!" Both Pip and Rumble said at once. Rumble and Pip ran after First base and walked at his speed when they were by his side.

"Listen Base I know your new here and all but word of advice, stay away from Dimond tiara and Silver spoon." Rumble said.

"Yeah those two cause nothing but trouble." Pip said.

"Well it's time someone put a stop to it." First base said with confidence as he trotted up to Dimond tiara and Silver spoon. "Hey! Leave those Fillies alone you two!" 

"What?" Dimond growled as she turned around to see who was talking to her. "Who dares tell Dimond tiara what to...do." 

When Dimond tiara turned around she saw thee most hansom colt she had ever laid eyes on. Everything about him seemed wonderful, from his green bar to his beautiful blue eyes. All she could do was stare at his amazing and gorgeous-

"Tiara?" A voice said that brought her back from reality.

"Huh, wha?" Dimond Tiara stuttered as she looked right and left several times.

"Are you okay?" Her friend Silver spoon asked.

Dimond Tiara got up into Silver spoons face and said.

"Where did my Knight in shining armor go!" She demanded.

"...what?"

"Um, uh...I meant where did that low life colt go, I need to teach him a lesson."

"He left, along with Applebloom, Scootaloo, Sweetie bell, and two other Colts I think I may have seen before."

"Wait they left?" Dimond Tiara said in shock. "But isn't it lunch time?"

"Tiara, Lunch time was two hours ago." Silver spoon said bluntly.

"...I knew that." Tiara lied. "Where did that colt come from?"

"You mean First base, he's a new student. Came in today actually."

"What!? How did I not notice him?!"

"You were asleep."

"...oh."



Meanwhile at the C.M.C tree house.
"Thanks again for helping us with Tiara back there First base." Applebloom said as she handed him an apple.

"Oh it was nothing, I just wanted to do the right thing that's all."

"Well we thank you for it First base and you can knock on our door anytime." Sweetie bell said, a slight blush on her cheeks.

"Oh, thank you girls but I don't know if that's necessary."

"Hey I jus' noticed something." Applebloom said.

"What?" Scootaloo asked.

"All three of you are blank flanks like us!" 

First base thought that was stupid that he might have been a black flank but when he looked to see his cutie mark it was gone.

"Yeah well, we haven't exactly had the time to get our cutie marks." Rumble said.

"Hey I just had a fantastic idea." Sweetie bell said.

"Yeah, what?" Pipsqeak asked.

"Why don't you three join the Cutie Mark Crusaders?"

"That's brilliant Sweetie bell!" Apple bloom said. "All in favor say aye."

"Aye!" Applebloom, Sweetie bell, and Scootaloo all said in unison.

"Then it's decided, welcome to the Cutie Mark Crusaders colts." Scootaloo said.

"Yay, I guess?" First base said.

"Ya guess?" Pipsqueak said as he slung his forearm around First base. "Mate this is gonna be fun, I can feel it."

"Well, if you say so." 

The C.M.C party and danced for the new members joining. Then they all got down to business discussing plans for how they could all obtain their cutie marks. And just like that Night had rolled around and everypony had to go home. and that's when a horrible realization came across First base.

"Oh no, I just remembered I don't have a place to live!" First base said.

"Wait what, how do you not have a place to live?" Applebloom asked.

"Base here is an orphaned like Pip." Rumble explained.

"I have an idea." Sweetie bell said. "Why doesn't First base just stay over at all our houses on different nights?"

"That could work actually." Applebloom said.

"Okay but who's house do I stay at first?" Base asked.

"How about we draw straws and decide." Scootaloo suggested.

And so they did. And the order went as such.

"Okay so first is Pip, then Applebloom, then Rumble, then Scootaloo, and finally Sweetie bell." First base said.

"Alright Base let's go over to my house, best not keep mum waiting." Pip said as he ran off with First base behind him.

After a long jog First base and Pipsqueak made it to Pips house.

"Mum, I'm home!" Pip said as he ran through the door. "And I brought a friend."

From up the stairs a Pegasus mare with a light grey coat, blond mane, and yellow eyes that were crossed.

"Pip your back I was beginning to worry." The blond mare said as she hugged Pip. "And who might this be?" The blond mare asked

"Mum this is First base, he's my new best friend."

"Pleasure to meet you miss..." 

"Just call me Derpy, everypony does." Derpy said.

"Broder." A light purple unicorn filly that was as old as Pip with a blond mane came running in and crushed Pip in a bear hug.

"I'm happy to see you too sis, but your crushing your brothers neck."

"Sowry." The filly said, but turned her head when she saw First base.

"Oh, First base this is my sis, Dinkie. Dinkie this is my new friend First base." Pip said.

"Hello." First base said.

A slight blush appeared on Dinkie's face as she scurried away and upstairs.

"She's shy around other ponies, come on mate le's get us some grub." Pip said as he walked into the kitchen.

Soon it was time for everypony to go to bed and get some shut eye. But First base couldn't sleep as he looked out the window and up at the moon. 

"Mom...Dad...If you can hear me right now, I just wanted to say I'm sorry. I'm sorry I couldn't be strong enough to help everypony back in my old universe. But if you can see me now I want you to know I'm happy here, I've already made five great friends who all seem really nice. But I just wanted to let you two know. I love you."



Meanwhile in the parallel universe 

Evil Flash sentry was sitting on a tall throne were the castle of Friendship once stood, he had his elbow on his cheek supporting him.

"Looks like your little plan failed Umbra." A voice in evil Flash's head said.

Evil Flash closed his eyes and when he opened them he was in a room with pitch black walls, across from him was the real Flash sentry with chains on his hooves, his wings, and his neck.

"You know, I wish there was a way to shut you up." The evil Flash said.

"Ah come now, your just mad because Your plan failed to kill First base and take the magic that he had inside of him." Flash smirked.

"Oh you think I'm mad about that? Nononono I'm not mad at all."

"But you failed didn't you?" 

"In a way yes, but all Comet tail and Twilight did was send their son to a parallel universe. All I need to do is find it, and then I will get what's rightfully mine."

Evil Flash looked over to see that Flash had an angry look on his which made evil Flash smile.

"Well this conversation has been fun, but I best be off. Goodbye."





> Chapter six. The truth is revealed

Celestia's cruel sun shone through the curtains like they were see through and landed on First base's closed as he rolled over to avert from the Suns gaze.

"Mom, tell Celestia to keep the sun down for five more minutes." First base said groggily.

Deciding it was time to get up, First base opened his eyes to meet a very familiar face.

"Gooooooood mooooooooring Firsty!" Pinkie yelled.

"Gahhhh!" First base yelled as he jumped out of bed.

"HAPPY WELCOME-TO-PONYVILLE PARTY FIRST BASE!" Derpy, Dinkie, Pipsqueak, and Pinkie shouted.

"Have a morning muffin First base." Derpy said as she offered a muffin on a silver plater.

"Oh uh, thanks Derpy." First said as he took the muffin and took a bite out of it.

Instantly his eyes widened and his pupils shrank as the muffin took its corse, First base dropped the muffin and began running in place for some odd reason.

"Mum, what was in that muffin?" Pip asked.

"Oh it was one of my sugar muffins sweetie, I baked it for First because Pinkie to,d me he's not a morning pony." Derpy answered.

First base couldn't hold it in anymore, he needed to run and burn off his energy and fast before he exploded.

"ComeonPipIthinkit'stimeforschoolI'lleventakeDinkiesoundgood?greatthanksbye!" First base said at a very fast pace. He then grabbed Pip and Dinkie and ran out the door.

"Slow down mate, your gonna tear me arm off if ya don't slow down!" Pip said as he tried to slow base down. "What's worse you could hurt me sis." 

"Your right, Dinkie hop on my back." First base said.

"...what?" Dinkie said.

"Hop on my back, it'll be easier to carry you than dragging you." 

"O-okay." Dinkie stuttered as a light blush appeared on her cheeks. She climbed on top of First base back and held on tight to his neck.

"Away we go!" First base yelled as he reared up and punched the air. Once he was on all fours again he ran off like a speeding bullet. They sped through town at a very fast speed, so fast that everything became a blur to First base, he couldn't tell what was what.

"Look out!" Pip yelled as the group tackled something to the ground. Or rather Somepony.

"Ow, hey watch where your going there buddy." A brown colt with an orange mane and orange eyes said as he rubbed his head.

"Oh sorry there...Button mash?" Pip asked.

"Oh Pip its you how ya doing old friend?" Button asked.

"Fine, fine, back from Manehatton I see." 

"Yeah, moms work there ended yesterday so today I came back."

"H-h-h-hey P-p-p-I-I-I-p w-w-h-h-h-o-o I-I-s-s th-th-this g-g-u-u-y?" First base asked as he bounced up and down uncontrollably. 

"What's with him?" Button mash asked.

"First base this is me old mate Button mash." Pip said as he pointed a hoof at Button mash. "Button mash, the pony bouncing uncontrollably is me new friend friend First base."

"Whys he bouncing like that?" 

"He ate one of me mums sugar muffins."

"Oh, yeah that you'll do."

"C-c-c-a-a-n-n s-s-o-m-m-e-p-p-o-o-n-n-y p-p-l-l-e-e-a-s-s-e g-g-g-e-e-t D-d-d-I-n-n-k-k-I-e o-o-o-f-f-f-f of m-m-e?!" First base asked.

"First has a point we best get me sis of her before he takes her bleedin' head off." Pip said as he and Button began to walk towards First base. "Okay now mate, don't worry I'll hold you down while Button mash here gets me sis off ya. Sound good?" 

First base responded by nodding his head.

"Okay three...two...one!" Pip yelled as he jumped at First. But then First base dogged it and ran off.

"Mate I thought I told ya to stay still!" Pip yelled.

"I'm sorry but I can't control my legs anymore!" First base yelled.

"Uh oh." Pip said.

"Uh oh what?" Button asked.

"It's just as I feared, first base needs to get rid off all that energy that's built up inside of him, and because he didn't get rid of it before his muscles are responding involuntary." Pip said.

"Huh?"

"He can't control his actions anymore." 

"Oh, wait then how do we stop him?" 

"We chase him ya dolt." Pip said as he raced after First base.

"Oh, right." Button said as he gave chase too.



As First base kept running and running everything wasn't a blur anymore he could see where he was going only problem was he couldn't control where he went. But as he was running he saw a familiar Pegasus flying about.

"RumblehelpIcan'tstop!  First base said as he ran past Rumble.

"Huh?" Rumble asked as a green and orange blur pasted him. "Base was that you?"

"Ruuuuummmble!" Pip shouted.

"Pip what's going on?" 

"It Base mate, he ate one of me mums sugar muffins!" 

"What?! Your mom gave him one of those, doesn't she know those things are dangerous?!" 

"Come on we need your help."

"Hang on, there's no way we can catch Base on our own, we're gonna need help." Rumble said as he began to fly off. "I'll be back." 

Meanwhile Base was still running uncontrollably as he did his best not to hit any buildings.

"Are you okay Dinkie?" First base asked.

"I would like to get off da ride please." She said.

"Me too." Base said as he turned his head straight forward again. "SOMEPONY HELP US!" First base yelled.

He kept running and running until suddenly he came to a stop.

"Huh?" First base said confused.

"Need any help?' A voice asked.

First base looked behind him to see our two main characters, Nightwing and Flash.

"Flash, grab the kid and fly into the air." Nightwing told Flash.

"Got it Nightwing." Flash said as he grabbed First base and flew into the air.

Nightwing flew up and began to inspect First base.

"Tell me kid what's your name." Nightwing asked.

"My name is First base." First base answered.

"Well First base you have something that I like to call 'a super sugar rush'." Nightwing said

"A super sugar rush?" 

"Yeah it's what happens when your body is so chalk full of energy that you can't control it anymore." 

"Is there a cure for it?" 

"Lucky there is, you just need to burn off that energy." 

"How?"

"Simple, you run." Nightwing said bluntly. "I have a large hamster wheel you can run on to burn that energy at my house, let's go." Nightwing said as they all flew over to Nightwings house. In his backyard Nightwing had set up the wheel and got Dinkie to let go of First base.

"Okay Flash let him loose." Nightwing said. Flash nodded in response as he let First base go and he began to run on the wheel.

"Hey Nightwing can I ask you something?" Flash asked.

"Sure." Nightwing said.

"Why do you have this wheel and how long have you had it?" 

"Why, because this isn't the first time I've sealed with a sugar rush." Nightwing answered. "How long have I had it, about two weeks maybe."

"Follow up question, how long will this take?" 

"Somewhere between three minutes and." Nightwing paused as First base began to slow down. "Now." 

First base flopped down on the wheel with his tongue out and was gasping for air. Nightwing walked over to him and looked down at him and said.

"Feeling better?" Nightwing asked. First base responded by giving Nightwing a slow nod.

"Good, now let's get you off of that wheel and get you to school, I bet the teachers worried about you."

First base somehow found the strength to get up and walk alongside Flash and Nightwing with Dinkie as well. On the way there they all ran into the C.M.C.

"Base there you are, we've been looking everywhere for you." Rumble said.

"When Pip told us you had one of Derpys sugar muffins we came as fast as we could." Applebloom said.

"Thank you guys for caring but Mr. Nightwing here and Flash helped me, so I think I'm all good now." First base said.

"Oh, well if you say your okay mate then it's fine with me." Pip said.

"You guys all better get to class, it's gonna start soon." Nightwing said.

"Oh right." First base said as the C.M.C all ran inside the school, but First base turned back to Nightwing and said. "Thank you again Mr. Nightwing." 

"No problem First base." Nightwing replied as First base went inside the school and Flash and Nightwing walked home.

When First base entered the school he noticed that Button mash was  sitting in the desk that was between Pip and Rumble. First base looked up to Cheerly and asked.

"Ms. Cheerly where am I supposed to sit?" 

"You can sit next to me First base." Dimond Tiara offered.

"Um...you could sit next to me." A small voice said. First turned his head to see that the small voice was Dinkie. Deciding it would be better to sit next to someone he knew First base sat next to Dinkie. While Dimond cursed at Dinkie for that.

"Okay class today we have a very special guest visiting us." Cheerily said.

The entire class talked amongst one another about the visitor and who he could be. But then the whole room went quiet once they heard a knock on the door.

"You may come in." Cheerly said.

The door swung open as a familiar bat pony walked into the room.

"Hello fillies and gentlecolts, my name is Nightwing, and it's a pleasure to meet you all.

"Hi mr Nightwing." The whole class said.

"Now let me tell you something's about myself." Nightwing began. "First, can anypony tell me what kind of pony I am?" Nightwing asked, then a filly with a white coat, red poofy mane, purple eyes, and glasses raised her hoof.

"Yes, you with the glasses." Nightwing said as he called on the filly.

"Your a bat-pony, ponies that are half bat and half pony." The filly said.

"Your correct young one, I am a bat-pony. But can any of you tell me what I have that normal bat-ponies don't?"

Then Scootaloo raised hoof and Nightwing called on her.

"Is it your eyes, because you have red eyes, while normal bat-ponies have yellow eyes." Scootaloo said.

"Correct, now can anypony tell me why I have red eyes instead of yellow?" 

No one in the class room raised their hoof to answer Nightwings question.

"No one, come on it doesn't hurt to guess." Nightwing said.

Then out of the corner of First base's eye he saw Dinkie's hoof was slowly beginning to raise. But Nightwing met her halfway and called on her.

"Um...is it...is it because..." Dinkie tried to say but had a hard time making the words come out.

"No need to rush yourself, take your time." 

Dinkie took a deep breath and then poured it all out. "Is it because your a vampire bat-pony that drinks blood instead of fruit like the other bat-ponies with yellow eyes?" She asked quickly while stunning everypony I the class.

"Why...yes, that is correct Dinkie." Nightwing said.

"Wait...you drink blood?!" Rumble asked.

"Yes I do." Nightwing said bluntly. "Unlike the normal bat-ponies you've seen that eat fruit, I drink blood." 

The entire classroom went wide eyed when Nightwing confirmed that he drank blood. 

"Haha, don't look so afraid I'm not going to drink anyone's blood." Nightwing said, calming down the classroom. "Besides, I drink blood because it's a food source for me, I drink it because it helps give me strength and improves my brain." 

Pip raised his hoof which Nightwing called on.

"If your a bat-pony, why are ya awake during the day. Doesn't the sun burn bat-ponies?" Pip asked.

"Ah, I was hoping one of you would ask me a question like that." Nightwing said as he turned towards the chalk board, levitated a piece of chalk, and drew a wooden stake, garlic, a chalice of holy water, and a picture of the sun.

"Who can tell me what all these objects have in common?" Nightwing asked, Dinkie once again raised her hoof and was called on.

"All those objects are things that ponies believe could hurt Bat-ponies." 

"Correct, ponies thought that Bat-ponies weakness's were these objects here. But who can tell me the three things that are an actual weakness to Bat-ponies?"

"Gold, silver, and crystal." Dinkie answered.

"Correct again, now who can tell me why these things are a Bat-ponies weakness?" Nightwing asked. "Yes you in the back."

"It's because gold, silver, and crystal are the only metals that can be enchanted with magic." Button mash answered. "That's why the royal guards armor is made of gold, silver, and crystal, because they are enchanted to withstand almost anything." 

"Correct, now that we know what I am, who can tell me who I am?" 

"Your the student of Princess Luna." Applebloom answered.

"That's right, I am the student of Princess Luna. Now who can-"

"What stuff does Princess Luna make you do?" Dimond Tiara asked.

"Well, kinda random stuff really. A little tests here and there I guess-"

"Have you ever fought a dragon with Princess Luna?" Pip asked.

"Well we did once but it wasn't that big of a deal-"

"Have you ever built a-"

"ENOUGH!" Nightwing shouted silencing everyone in the classroom. "There, now can anyone tell me what this is?" Nightwing asked as he lifted up his crystal.

"It's a crystal." Silver spoon said.

"Yes,but what kind of crystal?" 

Dinkie examined the crystal trying to figure out what it was when it came to her.

"That's a magikia crystal." Dinkie said. "A crystal that uses the magic within a pony and focusses it through the crystal like a unicorn horn does, but only a shadow knight can use them."

"That's correct Dinkie-wait what?" Nightwing said as he walked up to Dinkie. "What was that last part you said?" Nightwing asked.

"That, only a Shadow Knight can use them. Ponies that know how to wield magic without a horn." Dinkie explained. 

Nightwing looked to miss Cheerly and said. "Miss Cheerly I'm afraid I'm gonna have to cut my visit short, I need to go look at something." Nightwing said as he ran off.

"Well, it looks like mr. Nightwing had to leave in a hurry so let's move on to today's lesson." 



Nightwing kept running and running as he headed for his house, he couldn't believe it it was true. It couldn't have been true, but just to be sure he needed to see for himself. He burst through his home doors where Flash was reading a book on the couch.

"Oh hey Nightwing, your back early what happened?" Flash asked.

"No time to explain we need to find a book called the 'Lunar empire'." Nightwing said.

"Why?"

"I just said don't ask questions!" 

Flash and Nightwing searched the house from top to bottom in search for the book but couldn't find it.

"We've searched all over the house Nightwing, I don't even think we have the book." Flash said.

"Your right, we don't have the book." Nightwing said. "But I know someone that does. Follow me." Nightwing said as he ran off with Flash behind him. The two ran and ran, until they stopped at there destination. A large crystal tree.

"The friendship castle, why are we here?" Flash asked.

"If there's one pony that has that book, it's Twilight sparkle." Nightwing said as he knocked on the door. A few seconds later a purple dragon with green scales on his head that ran all the way down to his tail opened the door.

"Nightwing and Flash, what are you two doing here?" The dragon asked.

"We're here because we need a book that Twilight owns." Nightwing answered.

"Oh if you want that come on one in." 

Nightwing and Flash entered the castle and followed Spike to the Library. 

"Here we are the Library section of the castle." Spike said as he opened the door. "Anything else you need?" Spike asked.

"Yeah, where does Twilight keep the book 'The Lunar Empire'?" Nightwing asked.

"Oh that one, we don't have it anymore." Spike said

"What?!" Nightwing yelled as he got up in Spikes face. "Where did it go?"

"Uh, some lunar guards came here and took it." Spike answered.

Nightwing let go of Spike and trotted towards the door with an angry look on his face. Flash followed behind.

"Nightwing, what are doing?" Flash asked with worry in his voice.

"Flash get Lightning strike and Comet tail, we're going to see my Teach." 



A pair of binoculars scopes around the royal castle of Canterlot as Flash spots several sets of guards.

"I have to thank you guys for helping me with this." Nightwing said to Comet tail and Lightning strike.

"Are kidding me, when the student of Princess Luna asks you to help him storm into Canterlot and confront said Princess you don't refuse." Lightning strike said.

"Besides we'll always help our friends no matter what." Comet tail said.

"Well, I don't know if I see a way in the place is heavily fortified." Flash said.

"Then we enter from a secret entrance." Nightwing said.

"There are secret entrances in Canterlot's castle?" Comet tail asked.

"Course the are, just not a lot. There's one that leads to a hallway near Teach's bed chambers."

"Then what are we waiting for let's go." Lightning strike said.

Comet tail climbed on Flash's back and casted an invisibility spell on all four of them as they moved, undetected, to the secret entrance. Once inside Comet tail removed the invisibility spell as the moved through the tunnel. At the end of the tunnel was a vent pan that Nightwing easily removed with his magic. The group followed Nightwing as he trotted through the halls.

Then they came to a large door with a crescent moon on it.

"You guys watch the door while I have a conversation with my teach." Nightwing said as he opened the door and closed it behind him.



"You know, you could have knocked." Luna said.

"I did." Nightwing said. "Now you have some explaining to do and now." 

"What are you talking about?" 

"You know exactly what I'm talking about, why are trying to keep your book from me?" 

"Because you don't need to read it."

"Or is it because your worried I'll find out I'm a Shadow Knight?"

Luna stopped dead in her tracks when Nightwing said Shadow Knights. 

"You knew, you knew I was s shadow Knight and you kept it from me, Why?"

"...."

"Answer me Luna!" 

"You want to know why I wanted to keep it from you, it's because I wanted to protect you." 

"Protect me from what?" 

"From turning into something evil." 

"What are you talking about?" 

"A long time ago, before I became Nightmare moon, I met an earthling that had a magic inside of him that was different than earthling magic, it was almost similar to my lunar magic, so I made him my student and taught him what I knew. But the more he learned the more powerful his magic became, and the darker it became. Soon it became so dark that he became evil and waved war on Equestria. 

"Waged a war, but there has never been a war in Equestrian history."

"That's because I erased the memory of there ever being a war, I defeated my student and exiled him from Equestria, but when you came along I saw you as a second change for a student, but I see now that I have failed again." Luna said as she hung her head low.

"Hey, Teach." Nightwing said as he lifted up her head. "You haven't failed anyone,what happened to your old student wasn't your fault, but if you had just been honest with me, then I would have known about this and would have done everything I could not to be evil. And besides, I'm not your old student I'm Nightwing and I'm far stronger than your old student."

"Your right Nightwing, I'm sorry I hid the truth from you. I promise I won't do it ever again." 

"Good, now me and friends have to go home."



Meanwhile the C.M.C and Dinkie were leaving school.

"Hey Dinkie?" First base asked as he ran up to Dinkie.

"Ummm...yeah First base?" Dinkie said.

"How did you know all those questions?"

"I...um...I read a lot of books." 

"Read a lot of books? Hay Sis, you would read every book in Equestria, given the chance!" Pip said.

"Well, maybe."

"But still, why do you think Mr. Nightwing ran off like that?" First base asked.

"Who knows, maybe he just needed to do something and forgot about the time?" Rumble suggested.

"Yeah maybe it was something like that?" Button mash suggested.

"Come on you guys we need to hurry home and complete our homework." Dinkie said.

And with that, they all ran off to do their homework.

> Chapter seven. An unforgettable dream

A young colt walks in the pouring rain alone. No one is beside him, no one is near him, he is alone. Cold, wet, and alone. His gaze was on the dirt and mud that his hooves walked over. 

He kept walking and walking, each step caused pain in his legs. But he didn't care, he just kept walking and walking. No thoughts passed through his head as he did.

Until his body gave in and he fell. He tried to get up, but he couldn't feel his muscles. Exhausted, cold, and in pain, the young colt blacked out.





The young colts eyes fluttered open as he looked around to see he was no longer on the cold and harsh street. He was in a warm bed. He lifted himself up to see that he was in a room.

"Oh, your awake." A soft voice said.

The young colt looked to his side to see two foal's, one was a colt that had an orange fur coat, blue eyes, and matching spiked back blue mane. Next was a filly with a butter yellow coat, teal eyes, and a light pink mane.

"You were asleep for a long time." The filly said.

"W-where am I?" The young colt asked.

"Your in our home." The orange colt answered. "We found you passed out in front of our house."

The young colt sat up against the bed, giving him a better perspective of the room. He looked to the filly to notice she had a metal wolf pin with blue night eyes and silver fur.

"How did you get that?" The young colt asked.

"Oh, this? It fell off of you when we sat you down in the bed." The filly said as she handed the pin to the young colt. The young colt then took the pin and began to examine it. Making sure there was no damage dealt to it.

"So what's your name fella?" The orange colt asked.

The young colt looked up from the pin and at the two foals next to him. "My name is Nightwing, what's yours?" He asked.

"My name is Flash sentry." The orange colt answered.

"And my name is...um..." The filly stuttered.

"Come now sis, it's okay. The Bat-pony ain't gonna bite. At least I hope not"

"My...my name is...Fluttershy." 

"It's nice to meet you both." Nightwing said.

Suddenly the door opened and in came a stallion Pegasus with a dark orange fur coat, red eyes, and a red mane. 

"Well it seems our guest is awake, how ya doing little guy?" The stallion asked.

"I'm doing fine sir." Nightwing replied.

"Ha ha, boy the only ponies that address me as 'sir' are my soldiers." The stallion chuckled. "You may call me Fire cracker."

"My name is Nightwing." Nightwing said.

"Well Nightwing can you walk?" 

"I...I think so." Nightwing said as he got out of the bed and onto the floor. His legs wobbled a little but they soon adjusted to the hard floor. Fire cracker smiled at seeing that the young colts legs where working alright.
"Great, now I assume your hungry. We got lunch in the kitchen." Fire stated.

As the foals walked out of the room and into the kitchen, Nightwing met the foals mother. Flare warden. She had a long blue mane, matching blue eyes, and a light faded orange fur coat. In the kitchen was a medium round table with sandwiches on separate plates.

"Oh, our guest is awake I see." Flare said as she put some salads on the plates. "Good thing I made an extra sandwich." 

The foals all sat down and began to eat their food. As Nightwing ate his eyes began to wonder around and gaze at the different things in the kitchen. Then his eyes landed on a portrait with Flare, Fire, Flash, Fluttershy, and a colt that looked like Flash but his eyes were red instead of blue, his mane was red instead of blue, and his mane style was different.

"Hey Flash?" Nightwing asked while getting Flash's attention. "Who's that colt in the picture there?"

Flash looked towards the portrait that Nightwing was pointing to. He then swallowed the bit of food in his mouth before he answered Nightwing. 

"The colt with the red mane?" Flash asked. 

Nightwing nodded his head in response.

"That colt there is my twin brother. But he's not here, he's at military school training to become a guard, I'm gonna become one too. But I'm not strong enough yet." 

"Don't worry son you'll be ready I just know it." Fire said as he rubbed Flash's mane.

*knock knock knock* 

"I'll get it." Fire said as he walked out of the kitchen and towards the door. A few minutes later Fire came back with a serous look on his face.

"Honey, what's wrong? Who was at the door?" Flare asked.

"Get the kids and Nightwing and hide them in the attic. Now!" Fire said.

"What? Why? Dad what's going on?" Flash asked as worry began to consume his voice.

"Just do as I say!" Fire barked.

Flare lead the kids into a small little room that had no windows so it was pitch black. The kids all sat in there for seemed like hours, until Fire came and opened the door. 

"Alright it's safe to come out." Fire said.

They all piled out of room along with a very agitated Flare.

"Fire what was that all about?!" Flare yelled. "Why did you do that?! And who was at the door?!" 

Fire looked back to Flare with a glare on his face. "That was Blaze. He said that the Order is coming here." Fire said grimly. Flash, Flare, and Fluttershy all gasped in horror. Nightwing as well was in shock as memory's of fire, smoke, and blood filled his mind until he came back to reality.

"We need to pack our things and leave." Fire said.

"Alright. Kids you heard your father, go pack your things were leaving." Flare said to Flash and Fluttershy.

"Yes mom." Flash and Fluttershy said in unison as they ran off. Nightwing then approached Fire.

"Please, I can't make you do this." Nightwing pleaded. "I refuse to let you flee from your home because of me." 

"Nightwing, it doesn't matter. Even if you leave the Order will still burn down our home." Fire said.

"What?! But-but I thought they were only attacking Bat-ponies?" 

"They are, but they believe that were sheltering them and will kill the ones that do that." Fire said as Flash and Fluttershy came back with stuffed suitcases.

"We're ready to go father." Flash said. 

"Good, let's go. Nightwing your coming with. And that's not up for debate." Fire said.

Nightwing nodded and the group all left out the back door. As they ran the whole world began to fade away.





"What?" Adult Nightwing said in confusion as he skidded to a halt. He looked around to see he was in an endless light blue void. "Oh...right, this is all a dream."

"There are three kinds of dreams." A voice came from behind Nightwing. "There are dreams of fantasy, ones that show you worlds of imagination. Then there are dreams of the future, ones that show you a possible future in your life."

"And dreams that show you a distant memory in your life that you have forgotten." Nightwing finished as he turned around to see none other than. His Teacher, Princess Luna . "What do you want Teach?" 

"I've come to apologize for keeping the fact that your a Shadow knight a secert." Luna said.

"Oh don't try to lie to me Teach. You know I can tell when someone's lying."

*sigh*"I guess I'll just tell you why I'm here, I've been searching around your memory's lately and I found something...interesting."

"Interesting how?"

"I know Discord told you about the Elements of Chaos." Luna said causing Nightwing to look away from her. "Listen Nightwing...I'm not mad, nor am I Dissapointed. But I must ask you...do you believe Discord?"

"...At first I didn't want to believe him, but...when I heard what he was saying was true. I knew he was telling the truth."

"Very well. If you believe that Discord is telling the truth, then I won't question it." Luna said as she turned around to walk away.

"...One last question Teach?" Nightwing asked causing Luna to stop and face Nightwing.

"Yes, dear Student." 

"When did you stop talking in old Equestrian?" 

"Um...boop." Luna said as she touched Nightwings head with her horn. A bright white Flash then blinded Nigtwing as he woke up with a jolt. He scanned the area until he convinced himself that he was in his room.

He then got up from his bed and walked downstairs to see that Flash was reading a book in the living room.

"Morning Nightwing." Flash said not turning his gaze away from the book. "Pleasant sleep?"

"Sorta. Had a nice visit with Teach." Nightwing said as he poured himself a glass of apple juice.

"Speaking of your Teach, a letter came for you and I." Flash said as he held up a rolled up scroll.

"Oh really, what did it say?" Nightwing sashed as he took a sip of his apple juice.

"Well it said to come to the Crystal Empire. That's pretty much it." 

"Well then." Nightwing said as he downed the rest of his juice. "Put on your armor Flash cuz we're going to the Crystal Empire!"

> Chapter eight. A new arrival part one

The Ponyville train moves across the train tack at a very fast speed as it heads towards its destination. Meanwhile Nightwing and Flash are having a conversation inside the train.

"Maybe it has to do with a changeling threat?" Flash suggested.

"Nah, Crystal heart would repel any changeling to enter the Empire." Nightwing said.

"Well...maybe it's because there's been a mystery that we need to solve?"

"Then they would have asked for us to bring Comet tail."

"Well...what do you think they need us at the Crystal Empire?"

Nightwing rested his head on his two hooves as he thought about why his Teach sent him to the Crystal Empire.

"Well...I got nothing." Nightwing said.

"I can tell you what Lulu wants." A voice said from above them.

'Oh good, he's here.' Nightwing groaned in his thoughts.

"Why the long faces you two? Arn't you happy to see me?" Discord asked as he teleported near them.

"Define happy." Flash said.

"Happy. A form of joy that oneself uses to show others he's in a positive mood." Discord said. "Speaking of which." With a snap of Discords eagle claw Flash disappeared. "Ah, nothing makes me happier than teleporting Somepony somewhere...safe." 

"Why did you do that? I already told Flash about the Elements of Chaos." Nightwing said.

"Well you see...wait you did WHAT?!?!"

"I told Flash about the Elements of Chaos."

"May I remind you that this is supposed to be a secert?!"

"Yeah good job with that, Teach found out last night."

"Lulu knows! Are you trying to tell everypony in Equestria?!"

"Hey I didn't tell her, she read my mind and found out."

"Well that makes sense I guess."

"And she's promised to keep it a secret. Now what is it you want to tell me?"

"Huh? Oh right, two things. One there's a Chaos element in the Crystal Empire I want you to get." 

"Perfect I'll just search an entire Empire for a small and unique gem."

"Relax, the gem is in the crystal palace, and it will look like the one you have already."

"Oh. Okay...wait then what's the second thing?" 

"A riddle dear Watson." Discord said as a bubble pipe appeared in his mouth and a Sherlock homes hat appeared on his head. "An old friend you shall find, one that has been evil and also kind. When you see this pony. You will have  emotions of hate."

"That last one didn't rhyme. 

"Cut me some slack! I didn't have time to make one up." Discord said as he disappeared and Flash reappeared.

"Hey Flash. Enjoy your visit to...someplace?" Nightwing asked.

"Well, it was okay. Discord teleported me to some type of hole."

"Neat. Oh by the way Discord said that there's a Choas gem in the Crystal Empire that we need to go get." Nightwing said as the train whistle blew and the train began to come to a halt. "Oh look were here." 

Sure enough they were at the Crystal Empire train station. When they got off the train there was a Crystal guard pony in crystal armor. 

"Are you Nightwing and Flash sentry?" The guard asked.

"Yep, that's us." Flash said.

"Please, come with me." 

The trio followed the guard all the way to the palace. As they got closer they saw two mares and a crystal guard with them. As they got closer the two mare became visible.

"Oh no." Nightwing groaned as he saw that the two mares were Fluttershy and Twilight. When Fluttershy and Twilight spotted Nightwing and Flash, Twilight was about to say something but was interupted by Fluttershy.

"Flash!" She squealed as she ran up and tackled Flash. Or tried to anyways, when she came in contact with Flash he stood his ground.

"Good to see you too Fluttershy." Flash said with a smile and Fluttershy let go of him. Then did something unexpected.

She kissed him. On the cheek.

Then she kissed him again.

And again.

And again.

"Alright you two that's enough, I think Twilight was about to say something." Nightwing said as the three stared at Twilight. And one word described her face. Horrified. It was as if every kiss Fluttershy laid on Flash's cheek was another crack in her heart. 

"W-w-why?" Twilight whimpered as tears began to well up in her eyes.

"Why?" Fluttershy repeated as she pondered the question. "Why what Twilight?"

"Why did you kiss him?" Twilight said as her voice began to break.

"Oh! Are sisters not supposed to kiss there bothers. I'm so sorry Flash."

"W-what?" 

"Flash and Fluttershy are family. Well not in blood because Flash's family adopted her, but you know what I mean." Nightwing said.

Heart restored. "Oh! I thought it was...because of something else."

"Something else like what, Princess?" Flash asked.

"Uhh, nothing. Just forget I said anything." 

"Excuse me?" A guard asked as he got the attention of the group. "I'm supposed to bring you four to Princess Cadence."

"Lead the way." Nightwing said. On the way there Fluttershy and Flash were having a conversation.

"So how has Ponyville been?" Flash asked Fluttershy.

"Oh it's been wonderful, I've made so many great friends. But there's not a lot else to tell, so how have you been doing?" She asked.

"Well just yesterday Lightning strike made an appearance a week ago and said he's our new neighbor."

"Lightning strikes back? I better come over some time and say hi." 

"I'm sure he'd love that."

"Oh, I'm sorry Nightwing I forgot about you. What are you doing here?"

"I'm here because of a letter from my Teach." Nightwing answered.

"Oh yeah that's right your Princess Luna's student. I forgot about that too. Sorry."

"It's alright...so does anyone know why we're here?" 

"Not a clue, just that Cadence sent a letter telling us to come here."

"Bluntness must run in the family." Nightwing muttered.

"What was that?" 

"Nothing. Hey how has your study's in that Nature religion of yours going?" 

"It's going great...but I have to go to Whitetail forest in four days for a test I'm supposed to take."

"Really, well I've always wanted an excuse to leave town. Mind if I come with you?" 

"Oh not at all. In fact it'll be nice to have some companion."

"I'll be there."

"Ahem." The guard cleared his throat to get the groups attention. "We have arrived."

"..Well don't just stand there open the door." Nightwing said.

"Oh. Of course." The guard said as he opened the door. 

Inside the door was an Alicorn with a light pink fur coat, pink eyes, and a pink mane with a baby blue and yellow strip in it. Next to her was a unicorn stallion with a white coat, blue eyes, and a matching blue mane.

Across from the two was a light orange unicorn mare with teal eyes and a mane that was red and yellow. When the mare turned around towards the doorway the group saw who the mare was and immediately recognized her.

"Sunset shimmer?!" They all said in unison.

"Hello...again." Sunset said meekly.

"What is she doing here?" Twilight asked.

"She came through the portal in the other room five hours ago." The Alicorn known as Cadence said.

"Wait, how do you three know Sunset shimmer?" Twilight asked the other three.

"We knew her in the past." Nightwing said.

"Yeah that's kinda why I asked you all to come here." Sunset said.

"Really? And just why did you decide to come here, if you don't mind me asking?" Fluttershy tried to say in a stern voice.

"I've come back to ask you all for a second chance."

"And just why should we give you one?" Nightwing asked.

"Because I've changed. And you know I'm telling the truth Nightwing."

"...Well she's got me there. She is telling the truth."

"Alright if you say so, but I don't know if I can forgive you." Fluttershy said.

"Please give me a second chance." 

"Okay, I'll give you a second chance."

"What about you Twilight, should we give her a second chance?" Nightwing asked.

"The last time I saw Sunset shimmer she definitely changed. I say we give her a second chance." Twilight said.

"Okay. Flash what about you?" Nightwing asked.

"..."

"Flash?"

"I don't know if we should, but...if you all say we should then I'm okay with it."

"Oh thank you thank you thank you!" Sunset said with glee as she hugged Nightwing, only for him to pry Sunset off.

"Wait, if we're giving her a second chance then where is she gonna stay?" Fluttershy asked.

"Princess Luna said that she could stay at Nightwings house." The Unicorn stallion, who is known as Shining armor, said.

"Well if that's all that we needed to be here for, let's get going." Twilight said. As she began to leave an evil thought came into Nightwings head along with an evil smile. He turned to Cadence and asked her,

"Excuse me Cadence?" Nightwing asked.

"Yes Nightwing." Cadence replied.

"Is it okay if Flash sentry guards Twilight on some days?" 

When Twilight heard that last part she stopped dead in her tracks and turned back to Nightwing with a 'Don't you dare' face.

"What. Why?" Cadence asked.

"Well you see Flash has a bother names Lightning strike, he's a guard like Flash but with less experience. Anyways I was thinking that why not let Lightning strike guard me and get some experience and in the mean time, Flash can guard Twilight." 

Cadence looked at Twilight to see that her face was made of pure anger. Then Cadence realized what Nightwing was trying to do and smiled.

"Well when you put it that way." Cadence began.

"Now wait a second Cadence I don't think Twily needs-" Shining armor began but was interrupted by Nightwing.

"Armor, you don't have a voice in this choice. Shut up." Nightwing silenced Armor.

"As I was saying, I don't mind. But only if Sentry agrees with it." Cadence said.

"Well, I guess I'm okay with it." Flash said as he rubbed the back of his neck with his hoof.

"Then it's settled, Flash can begin Guarding Twilight tomorrow." Nightwing said.

"Is there anything else you need?" Cadence asked.

"Actually yeah. You wouldn't happen to have a gem that is a perfect oval would you?" 

"Actually yeah, some miners found something like that two days ago. We put it in the minerals room." 

"Wonderful, I'll just pick that up on my way out." Nightwing said as he walked out the door. The second the door closed Twilight shot a laser at Nightwings feet.

"Bye." Nightwing said as he ran off.

"I WILL SKIN YOU ALIVE NIGHTWING!" Twilight shouted. Then turned back to see everyone was staring at her causing her to blush.

"I...uh...I overreacted?" 

"Rrrrrright." Sunset said. "Let's head down to the train station and wait for Nightwing there, hmm?"

"Sure...let's do that." 



Meanwhile Nightwing was trotting down the crystal halls in search for the mineral room.

"No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no." Nightwing said as he passed several rooms until stopping in front of one that was labeled 'Mineral room'.

"Yes." Nightwing said as he opened the door. Inside the room was filled with crystals of all kinds. Luckily they were all organized and easy to find. Nightwing kept looking until he stopped at what he thought was one of them. 

The gem was a perfect oval like the one he found at the Two sisters castle, but it was a different color. Unlike the one they found which was pitch black, this one was red with a hint of yellow in it. Nightwing used his magic to levitate the gem in front of him.

"Are you Nightwing?" A voice asked from behind him.

Nightwing spun around to see there were two Pegasus ponies, one had a light blue mane, the other had a dark blue mane. Both were wearing yellow goggles with sharp ends. Also they were wearing a dark purple and black uniform that covered their whole body except for there muzzle.

"Yeah, why do you want to know?" Nightwing asked.

"Oh, just asking." The other Pegasus said as he raised his foreleg and a ball of Lighting formed in his hoof. Then the Pegasus threw the lightning ball straight at Nightwing.

The lighting ball exploded as it came in contact with the wall. Breaking it to pieces and making a hole in the palace. But Nightwing dodged the attack before it struck him.

"Hey!" He yelled as he turned back to the two Pegasi. "What do you think your doing?!"

Nightwing was then sent flying out the hole as the other Pegasus closed the distance between them and punched him straight in the muzzle. Thankfully he landed on the hard crystal ground of the Empire. The two Pegasi hovered above Nightwing as he began to recover from the blow.

"Okay you two, I'm gonna give you one last chance to stop, before I take this seriously." Nightwing threatened.

"Be a nice change of pace." The lightning Pegasus said as he created a lightning ball and shot it at Nightwing. 

Nightwing dodged the attack and flew at the martial arts Pegasus.

"Oh this is too easy." The martial arts Pegasus smiled as she threw a punch at Nightwing. Only for it to go straight through his head.

"What?!" The martial arts Pegasus yelled. The Pegasus then turned around to see Nightwings hoof come in contact with her face.

"Hah! Not so nice when the shoes on the other hoof, is it?" Nightwing sneered.

But sadly Nightwings little gloat ended shortly as a small lightning ball struck him in the back and sent him hurling towards the ground.

"So this is all the great Nightwing is capable off?" The martial arts pony asked as the two Pegasi landed on the ground. "How sad."

"Okay. First, the only reason you're beating me is because you caught me off-guard. Second I can't use an defensive attacks because shield spells are weak against lightning. Third, there's a lightning ball behind you." Nightwing said.

"What?" The lightning Pegasus said as he turned around to see a blue lightning ball being hurtled towards him. 

In a quick action the two Pegasi flew up into the air to dodge the attack.

"Okay who threw that?!" The martial arts Pegasus yelled. She looked around to find the source of the attack. She turned and her face was met with a hoof wearing a golden shoe.

"What took ya so long Flash?" Nightwing asked his ex-guard.

"I was preoccupied." Flash said.

"Take this!" The lightning Pegasus yelled as he created a lightning ball and threw it at Flash, only for him to deflect it.

"How did you do that?" Flash asked the lightning Pegasus.

"It's a secret." The lightning Pegasus said.

"Well at least now the odds are even." Nightwing said as he faced the martial arts mare.

"In the name of the Royal guard surrender!" A voice yelled.

The Pegasi (and Nightwing) all turned to see they were surrounded by crystal guards, Shining armor, Cadence, Sunset shimmer, and Twilight.

"Well now your outnumbered and outmatched." Nightwing sneered. "Nothing to do now but give up."

"Yeeeeah, no." The martial arts Pegasus said as a pink crystal appeared out of nowhere and hovered above her hoof.

"What is that?" Flash asked.

"Where did she get it?" Sunset asked.

"Has she had that thing the entire time we've been fighting?" Nightwing asked.

The martial arts Pegasi held the crystal up to her mouth and said. "Teleporta alica." She said.

The pink crystal began to glow and turn into a bright pink flash, blinding everypony in the area. When the flash faded the two Pegasi were gone.

"What...what just happened?" Shining armor asked.

"To be honest...not a clue." Nightwing said.



Meanwhile in a dark cave, the two Pegasi where in front of unicorn figure.

"What were you two thinking?!" The unicorn screamed.

"Sorry sir, we were just following your orders." One of the pegasi said.

"Orders? What orders?"

"Your orders." The martial arts Pegasus said. "You told us that the bat pony was a changeling and that we where to take him down."

"I never gave such order!"

"Then...who did?"

A silence filled the room as both the unicorn and the pegasi thought carefully of how this could have happened.

"Alright listen. I want the both of you to return to your posts while I figure this out. Got it?"

"Yes sir!" The two pegasi saluted and flew off. Leaving a lost in thought unicorn alone.

"It's not possible, but then how else could this have happened?" He muttered to himself as he walked away.




Meanwhile the Ponyville train was speeding down the tracks with Flash, Twilight, Sunset, Fluttershy, and Nightwing in one of the private cars. Nightwing was levitating an ice pack on his left eye to stop his black eye, which Twilight gave him once they were on the car, from swelling.

"I still don't think you should have done that." Fluttershy said.

"Believe me Fluttershy, I deserved it." Nightwing said.

"Your darn right you did." Twilight growled.

"Seriously what is going on between you two?" Flash asked.

"Something that you don't need to know Flash." Nightwing said.

"When my friend gets a black eye by a princess it makes it something I need to know."

"*sigh* Fine I'll tell you, but Sunset and Fluttershy have to leave." 

"What? Why?" Sunset asked.

"Because what I'm about to say you don't need to hear, now leave the car or I will shove you off this car." Nightwing growled.

"Okay got the message. Sheesh." Sunset said as she and Fluttershy left the car. 

Once Sunset was gone Nightwing casted a soundproof bubble to make sure no one could hear them.

"Okay now what is this all about?" Flash asked.

"I know." Nightwing said.

"Know what?" Twilight asked.

"I know about you two and your secret dating thing." 

"Secret-what?" Flash asked.

"Oh don't bother with that act Flash, we both know you can't lie to me."

"*sigh* I guess there's no point in lying." 

"Thank you, anyways. Twilights mad at me because I probably almost exposed your little secret."

"Yeah, let's go with that." Twilight murmured.

"Well if that's all then, I don't know why you needed to hit him?" Flash asked.

"Trust me Flash, it's better that you don't know."

"Agreed, now I'll go get Fluttershy and Sunset." Nightwing said as he got up from his seat.

"Oh, one more thing Nightwing before you leave." Twilight said.

"Yeah what?"

Punch!

"Deserved that too." Nightwing said as he rubbed his black eye and left the car.

"So what was with you getting all upset when my sis kissed me?" Flash asked.

"I just don't like it when other Mares kiss my colt. Okay?" Twilight said.

"Duly noted."

"I told you to leave the car, not go straight to the caboose." Nightwing said to Sunset shimmer and Fluttershy as the three walked in.

"We had no choice the other cars were full, also why does your eye look more swollen than usual?" Fluttershy asked.

"I fell down some stairs." Nightwing lied.

"There's no stairs on this train." 

"I found some and fell off them." 

"Okay enough nonsense. Let's talk about something important, like who were those two Pegasi that attacked Nightwing?" Sunset asked.

"All I know is that they attacked me and I haven't the faintest clue why." Nightwing said.

"Speaking of those two Pegasi." Flash said as he looked at Nightwing. "Why where you holding back when you we're fighting them?"

"He was holding back?!" Sunset said in shock.

"Oh yeah, I've seen Nightwing in action and he can do way more than that."

"I didn't attack at full power because I wanted to test the after-image spell." Nightwing said.

A few minutes passed by with conversation after conversation. Soon the train ended at Ponyville and the groups all went home. Flash and Twilight went to Twilights castle so Flash could get a rundown for how big the castle was. Fluttershy went to her cottage to pack for her trip, and Nightwing and Sunset went to Lightning strikes house to tell him he was Nightwings new guard.

"So quick question?" Sunset asked as Nightwing knocked on the door.

"Yeah what?" Nightwing said.

"What's Lightning strike like?"

"A lot like Flash." 

The door was opened by Lightning strike himself.

"Oh hey Nightwing and..." 

"Sunset shimmer." Sunset answered.

"Pleasure to meet you Sunset." Lightning said as he shook her hoof. "So Nightwing what can I do for you?" 

"Flash has been promoted and is now Guarding Princess Twilight sparkle, so you are now my new guard. Kay?" Nightwing said.

"Oh...well okay." 

"Wonderful, go get your armor you start now."

Night time rolled around quickly as all the ponies went to sleep. Unaware that an Earth pony was watching them.

The clear moon shown through the dark night like a flashlight in the dark. Giving sight to Nightwing, Flash, Lightning strike, and Comet tail who were moving in the Everfree Forest. In front of them was a single Timberwolf running away from its four chasers.

"Are you sure they were fake Timberwolves?" Comet tail asked.

"Positive." Nightwing said. "They didn't have bad breath, and they didn't reform when Flash blew up the other two. Also this one high tailed once we destroyed its friends."

"Somepony want to tell me what's going on?" Lightning strike asked.

"We're tracking down fake Timberwolves because we believe Somepony is creating them and is terrorizing Ponyville." Flash answered.

"And we're gonna see who's behind this." Nightwing said.

The Timberwolf kept running until it ran out into an open area in the forest that had no trees. The lone Timberwolf came to a stop when it reached the center of the area. It turned around towards the four that were racing towards them. Then they too came to a stop.

"Why did the Timberwolf stop here?" Comet tail asked.

"Because I told it too." A voice came from behind the Timberwolf. 

The Timberwolf moved out of the way to reveal an earth pony with a light blue coat, silver mane and tail, and red eyes.

"I'm sorry but, did you just say the Timberwolf stopped because you told it too?" Comet tail asked. "And who are you?" 

"You don't recognize me Comet tail, I'm hurt. Perhaps this will jog your memory." The earth pony said as he showed the four his cutie mark. A red heart with a silver cross over it, with a circle in the middle. Comet tails eyes widen when he saw it.

"Clutterstep?!" Comet tail said in shock.

"You know this pony Comet tail?" Flash asked.

"I did when I was a colt, Clutterstep what happened to your mane and eyes?" Comet tail asked.

"A side affect from some...experiments." Clutterstep said.

"Experiments like what?" Nightwing asked.

"Experiments. Now I bet your wondering why I lead you all out here?' 

"let me guess it's because we have walked into a trap isn't it?" 

"You know no pony likes a buzzkill Nightwing." Clutterstep said as he reared his head up and howled at the moon.

"Why did you just do that?" Night wing asked.

"Uh...guys!" Flash said.

The group looked around to see that they were indeed trapped.  Surrounding them in a circle was about two-hundred Timberwolves. 

"Eat up boys!" Clutterstep yelled as he stopped the ground with his right. Upon hearing the signal the Timberwolves charged their prey.

"Oh...fudge." Nightwing said as the others got ready to fight. 

Once the Timberwolves had closed the distance between them and their prey they lunged at the group. Flash was the first to act, creating several small lightning balls and firing them at the Timberwolves. Lightning strike copied Flash's actions and fired lightning balls of his own at the Timberwolves. Comet tail played his part by firing blasts of magic at the Timberwolves. Nightwing attacked the Timberwolves by firing magical blasts from his crystal. 

Soon the Timberwolves were all destroyed and all that remained was the group and Clutterstep.

Nightwing, Flash, Lightning strike, and Comet tail were all panting. Each had several cuts and bruises on their body's. Timberwolf remains were scattered all over the place.

"Well done you four, you managed to fight off my minions." Clutterstep said as he clapped his hooves against the ground.

"That's right. What now fool?" Nightwing asked while panting.

"Well I was hoping that you would all get eaten by the Timberwolves but I see now that's not gonna happen, so I'll just transform and kill you myself." 

"What?" Flash asked in shock.

Clutterstep barred his teeth as his fur began to rise. His body began to grow along with his muzzle and face. His teeth became bigger and sharper, and his ears became pointer. Finally Clutterstep transformed into a tall wolf-like creature that stood on two legs. Also known as a Werewolf.

"Clutterstep...what happened to you?" Comet tail asked in horror.

"What happened to me?" Clutterstep asked, his voice became lower. "This is the affect of the experiments I went under. Now my old friend, it pains me to do this but I must kill you, goodbye." 

The last thing Nightwing did before Clutterstep attacked was send a distress message to Luna.



"Nightwing." A soft voice echoed through Nightwings head.

"Wha?" Nightwing murmured as he tried to open his eyes.

"Nightwing." The voice said again. "It's time to wake up Nightwing."

"Wake...up?" Nightwing asked.

Nightwing then saw a white light. He then moved towards it without any hesitation.



"Nightwing!" Luna shouted.

"Huh, what?" Nightwing murmured.

"Thank goodness your alive."

"What...what happened?" Nightwing asked as he tried to sit up. "Where am I?" 

"Your in Ponyville hospital." 

"My friends, Where are they?!" Nightwing shouted as his eyes widened.

"Your friend Comet tail is alive but severally injured. But..." 

"But what? Teach what happened to Flash and Lightning strike?!"

"Their injuries were more severe than Comet tail and yours, we can only forestall what will happen to them."

"No." Nightwing couldn't believe it, Flash. His best friend. Was going to die. And it was all his fault, just like what happened to Flash's dad. He died and it was all his fault.

Nightwing began to hyperventilate, his heartbeat began to rise beating faster and faster. He jumped from the bed he was in and ran down the hall. Pushing past any doctor and nurse that was in his path. He burst through the hospital doors and kept running.

He kept running and running, ignoring the pain he felt with each step he took. As soon as his house came into view, he sprinted towards the door. Burst through and collapsed in the living room. Tears were beginning to fall from his face as it all overwhelmed him.

"Nightwing." The same voice he heard before called out.

"W-who's there?" Nightwing asked as he wiped some tears from his face.

"Nightwing."

"Go away. Leave me alone." 

"Awww, don't worry Nightwing. I'm here to help." The voice came from behind him.

Nightwing turned around to see a Pegasus mare with a grey fur coat, yellow crossed eyes, and a blond mane.

"D-Derpy?" Nightwing asked.

"Derpy? No, no, I am my masters Messenger." Messenger said.

"W-who's your master?" Nightwing sniffled.

"Sorry can't say, but like I said before I'm here to help."

"H-how can you help me?" 

"Well I was gonna tell you a way to make sure your friends Flash and Lightning live, but if you don't want my help. Suit yourself." Messenger said as she began to walk away.

"Wait!" Nightwing said causing Messenger to stop. "I'm listening."

"Well you see, my master can't let your two friends die. So he sent me to tell you how to save them."

"And how do I do that?" 

"Easy, first I need you to open up your vault." 

"How do you know-"

"Time is ticking Nightwing."

Right, right." Nightwing said as he went to the vaults door and opened it up.

"Next we will need the two Elements of Chaos you've collected."

Nightwing then went and got the two Elements and put them in a pouch bag.

"Okay what's next?" Nightwing asked Messenger.

"Next, you place the shadow gem on Flash's heart and the flame gem on lightning's." Messenger answered.

"Does it matter which one I put on their hearts?"

"Yes, got it?" Messenger asked, Nightwing nodded. "Great, next thing. Blink."

Nightwing blinked once and he was no longer in his house. He was back in the hospital. He looked to his right to see two beds. One had Flash in it. The other Lightning. Nightwing looked all around but Messenger was no where to be found.

"Time is ticking, Nightwing." Messengers voice echoed.

"Right." Nightwing said as he approached Flash. His body was badly damaged, cuts and bruises all over. Nightwing levitated up a scalpel and cut open the skin to his heart and then placed the black gem on it. He then did the same with Lightning strike and placed the red gem on his heart.

"This better work." Nightwing said. "Because if not, I've gone insane." 

The door behind Nightwing opened. Nightwing turned towards it to see that it was Luna and a doctor who had entered the room.

"I figured you be here." Luna said as she walked next to Nightwing. "I wish I could do something, but theirs nothing I can do."

"My word!" The doctor said.

"What is it doctor?" Nightwing asked anxiously.

"It's Flash sentry and Lightning strike. Their wounds have...have fully healed!" 

"What?!" Luna said in shock.

"I don't know how, but their wounds are gone. Any damage to them has disappeared."

Luna looked at Nightwing and then back to the doctor. "Thank you doctor, can you leave us alone please?" Luna asked.

"As you wish, Princess." The doctor said as he left the room. Once the doctor was gone Luna turned to Nightwing.

"What did you do?" Luna asked her student.

"I saved my friends, Teach can you make sure that no pony remembers this except you and me?" Nightwing asked.

"Very well, but only if you will tell me what you did to save Flash and Lightning strikes life.

"Deal."



Meanwhile Messenger had teleported to the great library.

"I've done what you've asked Master." Messenger said.

"Good work my Messenger." Storyteller said.

"What happens now master?" 

"Now I'm afraid that the book has ended."

"But the story hasn't ended, has it master?" 

"No my dear Messenger. The story has just begun."
