chapter one
It had been almost a century since Twilight Sparkle had been turned into an alicorn princess and all of Equestria was changing. The once magic filled world was running out of magic as a new age began. With the last of her magic Twilight gave her friends the gift of eternal life. As the years went by the people of equatria began to find a new way of living threw the power of steam.
Pinkie Pie awoke to the sound of her pipes busting. She crawled out of bed knowing if she waited to long the damage would be to much to repair and she would have to shut down shop. She knocked on her beloved friends door. " Spike the pipes busted again." From inside the room you could hear the groan of an awoken dragon. Moments later another loud noise came from down the hall. Pinkie rushed and turned off the steam powered machine before anymore damage could be done. Damn it, this is the third time this week. Rainbow dash better hurry up with that supply tuck or i'll be out of business for good! "he thought to herself. She garbed a wrench from a hand made shelf in the back right corner of the room and rushed to the pipe. She began to sweat as the large room began to fill with steam. She paused for a second to examine the room that was once the basement in sugar cube corner. Instead of having cooking supplies it was now filled with intertwining pipes that lead from part of the wall to the next supplying half the block with steam powered energy. Then out of now were the pipe Pinkie was working on blew again and she whispered a curse and began rushing to fix the pipe.
Spike came running out of his room when he heard the second blow.
" What pipe is it this time Pinkie?" He asked wiping his eyes.
" Its the same one as always" Pinkie said with a grunt as she turned off the second pipe that threatened to pop. Spike rushed over and began producing a blue flame from his mouth and slowly began to blow it on to the bursting pipe. Almost immediately the pipe began to cool off leaving a chill in the air. Spikes blue flame was made of an ice type flame allowing him to calm the steam down just enough to keep the pipe from bursting and allowing it to keep flowing.
" Thanks Spike, I don't know what i'd do without your fire."
" you'd probably go out of business." Spike said jokingly but immediately noticing that he had gone to far. " I was just joking Pinkie, you know, like the old days." Pinkie didn't say anything she just looked at her pipes as if in a daze. Oh Spike I wish i could laugh like we once did so long ago, but with the way things are going now, there won't be laughter anymore, just sadness and work.She thought once again to herself. Pinkie Pie smiled at the thought of all the silly party's she used to through. When she was turned immortal she thought hey know the party won't ever die, sadly the party had died much sooner than expected.
Rainbow dash had, had enough of steam powered wings that got her nowhere fast no matter how much work she puts into them. She missed her real wings, the ones she had attached to her, not the ones she strapped on every day that threatened to break if she tried to reach her old speeds. She sighed as her lode began to become heavy in her arms, she was tempted to just drop it but Pinkie would have her head if she didn't make her long overdue delivery. Her friends expected too much from her now a day's. She couldn't fly nearly as fast as she once could and everyone expects her to be there in 10 seconds flat. Well life doesn't work that way anymore guys, 10 seconds flat is more 10 hours flat. I can't even clear the sky without having to take a break every ten minutes to repair these shitty old wings. She thought. Rainbow hadn't minded being turned immortal but when the world went into chaos after discord died releasing all of his evil magic into the air that took everyone's magic away, well surprisingly Spikes fire magic hadn't left yet but then again what would be chaos without a little fire.
Rainbow landed in front of a street shop with the sign that read: Steam Powered Everything, Including cupcakes. Rainbow knocked loudly on the door until a very tired looking Spike answered the door.
" Its about time Rainbow Dash your a week late. What happened to your dash?" Rainbow almost punched Spike in the face if he hadn't been saved by Pinkie Pie pushing him behind her.
"Where the hell have you been Dash? You're a week late!"
"Sorry Pinkie these wings don't get me anywhere like my old ones used too" Rainbow looked down at the grease covered apron Pinkie wore. Pinkie opened her arms and hugged Dash.
" I'm sorry Dash I shouldn't have snapped at you like that. Come on in and have some Breakfast i'm sure you've had a long journey from Canterlot."
When Fluttershy had heard the news Rainbow Dash had finally made it back home she ran as fast as she could to Pinkie Pie's shop. She didn't stop to knock so when she throw open the door she almost hit Spike who was carrying a shiny new pair of wings that looked similar to Rainbow's real one's that had diapered along with her own when discord died releasing all of his evil magic.
" Sorry Spike, wheres Rainbow at?"
" She's in the kitchen with Pinkie Pie." he said following her towards a small hole in the wall. When they walked in they saw Rarity and Applejack sitting with Rainbow and Pinkie.
Applejack leaned forward " So Dash what took you so long to get back here from Canterlot?"
Rainbow looked at the pair of wings sitting in the corner. " Well those wings sure don't get me place's as fast as my old ones did."
" So any word from Twilight?" Pinkie asked.
" Well she sends her love and hellos to everyone and she is terribly sorry she can't be with at the moment, her princess duty's have summed her to stay in Canterlot longer, things have gotten so chaotic that even Cadence was summed form her own kingdom in order to help the others find some way to bring back all the magic to Equestria" Dash looked down at the cupcake Pinkie had made for her " But things don't look promising. With out the elements of harmony we are pretty much out of luck of ever returning to the way things used to be." Rainbow stood up and looked each of her friends in the eye. " You all know that there really is no chance of ever getting back to normal and I hate to be the one to say this but, you all better get used to everything being the way it is because if Celestia nor Luna have a way of getting us back to normal nothing will." With that said Rainbow left the room as if to let it all sink in.
Spike walked out the front door to a dimly lit street that smelled of rotten eggs. Spike pulled his scarf over his mouth and shifted the bag he had on his shoulder and walked into the dark alleyway that connected to the new Clouds dale. Spike walked threw the old streets of pony vile, all the buildings had been changed to be powered by steam. Only a small amount of buildings remand the same, like City Hall, and a few town house. The rest of the buildings had pipes coming out of the ground and into the walls. Most of the buildings look worn down from all the malfunctions of steam powered machines. Since all magic was removed the once great city in the sky, clouds dale, had made a descent to the ground and was planted next to pony vile making the once small village a large buzzing city.
" He really miss her 'ya know." Applejack said closing the blind she was looking out of as she watched spike wonder down the street.
" Don't we all." said Rarity.
" 'ya we do but she left him behind, they where a team, they had been together since they were kids." Applejack said sitting down. Nobody spoke, for the all knew where this kind of conversation lead to.
Spike knocked on what was once a very beautiful door. After a few moments the door opened revealing a very red eyed Rainbow Dash.
" Hey Spike, what can i do for you this late?"
" I, uh just brought you this, I've been working on a new prototype and i was wondering if you'd try them out." Dash looked at the bundle in Spike's arms wondering what laid beneath the oil covered cloth.
" Sure, but can it wait till tomorrow?"
" Of course, just tell me what you think later." Rainbow gladly took the mysterious gift from his hands. He waved good bye as he began to begin his journey back home.
The next morning Rainbow got up extra early to see what this new invention was that spike had left for her to try. To her surprise a brand new pair of shiny blue wings were wrapped up in the dirty old sheet. Rainbow immediately strapped them on, When the last belt was buckled she felt something began to attach itself to her spine, she let out a cry of pain when the last piece took its place. Dash looked into her mirror and starred in amazement as the wings moved at her command as of they were apart of her body. Tears began to fill her eyes as she realized that Spike had managed to make a pair of wings that where just like her old ones. she rushed out the door and ran to Pinkies shop until she realized she could fly just as fast. So she took off into sky the wind blowing in her hair, she began to go the speeds she was built for leaving her beautiful Rainbow streak in the sky. She could feel the tears running down her face as she landed in front of the shop. Rainbow banged on the door until a very tired looking Spike answered the door. Dash tackled Spike in a bear hug and refused to let him go until she had stopped crying.
" I'm glad you like them Rainbow but could you let me go I can't breath." Dash set him down.
" Spike i can fly again, just like the old days! I can even see my colors behind me again."
Rarity awoke to the faint light shining through her window. She looked at her clock and saw that it was still to early in the morning for the sun to shine through the smug that clouded the town. She got up and walked towards her window. "gasp, A sonic Rain-boom, i haven't seen that in years." She ran to her closet and throw some clothes on and ran out the door towards Pinkie Pies shop where she knew if her friends had seen it they would be doing the same thing. When she arrived she wasn't surprised to see all her friends standing in front of the shop, but to her surprise they all had tears in there eyes as well as herself.
" Hello everyone, i presume you all so the the Sonic Rain-boom as well."
Rainbow Dash landed in front of her friends with her old confident smile on her face. " Morning guys. Anyone up for a sunny day? I figured out how to clear the sky for awhile." Rainbow didn't wait for her friends to reply, she took off into the sky with a plain that was destined to work. Ten seconds flat Rainbow, ten seconds flat. Dash lowered her goggles over her eyes and went to work.
Twilight couldn't believe her eyes when she saw the faint glow of a Sonic Rain-boom. She had ran to the Princesses room and told her that she had some business to attend to in ponyville and that she would be back the next day. She had run all the way to the train station and demanded that they take her to ponyville admittedly.
When she arrived at the station in ponyville she was surprised to see everyone walking around with smiles on their faces, she was also surprised that it was so bright outside. When she look to the sky she saw that the heavy clouds that hung everywhere, were no where to be found in ponyville.
" Twilight!" Twilight had just enough time to brace herself for one of her friends giant hugs. "Twilight what are you doing here?" Pinkie Pie asked her.
" Well I saw a sonic rain-boom and knew that something magical was happening, So i got on the next train out of Canterlot and her I am." Pinkie Pie hugged Twilight again.
" Hey egghead." Rainbow Dash said as she approached the two girls.
"Rainbow, i saw you sonic rain-boom! How?"
