The foal was a baby girl, with an orange coat, purple mane, and purple eyes. "She's beautiful. But where's her horn?" Magical's eyes widened. "WHERE'S HER HORN?! We're Unicorns, so she should be a Unicorn too! Doctors, our child doesn't have her horn!" Astral then noticed the wings on the filly. "She's a Pegasus," Magical calmed down and smiled. "Oh, a beautiful and unique foal!" She hugged her child, getting a coo in response. Astral, on the other hoof, frowned. "Magical, we can't keep her," "Why?" "Because she's a Pegasus!" Magical gasped. "Astral Star, that is so racist! I will make divorce papers as soon as we get home!" Astral glared at his wife. "The reason why we can't keep her is because she'll be so eager to fly! And we're Unicorns! We won't be able to keep up with her!" Magical's anger diminished. "I hadn't thought about that. What will we do?" "We have to give her up," "I guess I have to agree with you. It's just that," she cried softly. "I'll miss her so much." Astral patted his wife's shoulder. "We'll at least name her," "Okay. Scootaloo. After my great-grandmother." Astral nodded. "Yes. Now we must put her in a new place." The couple went home, and put Scootaloo in a box and left a note on it. Once they were ready, they put her at the front of the door of the Ponyville Orphanage. "Come on, Magical, before they figure that we left her!" Astral said as he galloped away. But Magical stayed for a little while longer. She glanced down at her child. "Goodbye, Scootaloo. Your daddy and I love you. Always remember that." The mare went off. Once she was gone, Scootaloo started sobbing very loudly. At the sound of the wail, the orphanage's owner, Ms. Harshwhinny, came outside. "What is that annoying sound?!" She looked down to see Scootaloo in the box and the note on the box. She picked up the latter and read it. To whom it may concern, Please take care of Scootaloo for us. We had to leave her for reasons that we would like to be kept confidential. As she grows older, keep her as much like a normal foal as possible. That means taking her to school, parties, etc. Also, tell Scootaloo how much we miss and love her. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Scootaloo's biological parents. After reading the note, Harshwhinny groaned. "Just what I need. Another brat to watch." She grudgingly picked up the crying baby Pegasus from the box and took her inside. As Scootaloo grew, she made friends with the others her age in the orphanage and grew more mature. She was also like a normal filly. When she was three-years-old, she got a scooter from "Anonymous Ponies". The filly used it everyday. But she still dreamed of being adopted and having parents. But then, Rainbow Dash came along. She became Scootaloo's idol, and her dreams of being adopted went to dreams of being just like Rainbow Dash. Unfortunately, she couldn't fly, but was still phenomenal on her scooter. When the girl was five-years-old, Harshwhinny enrolled Scootaloo in a school. There, she met Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle, students that were teased because of their blank-flanks (like Scootaloo also was). Together, they formed the Cutie Mark Crusaders. When they asked ponies how they got their marks, Scootaloo was in awe of Rainbow's story. It made her idolize Rainbow even more! The filly often wondered what it would be like if Rainbow was her sister. She always liked the idea of having a sister, because Sweetie Belle had Rarity and Apple Bloom had Applejack, and the sister pairs seemed happy with each other. What if Scootaloo had a sister too? Not just any sister, but Rainbow Dash? It would be a dream come true! But one day, it was Ms. Harshwhinny's favorite day: Adoption Day. On Adoption Day, couples and single ponies looked around for fillies and colts to adopt. Scootaloo was thrilled when a couple looked at her like they wanted her as a child. But then, they walked away and looked at one of Scootaloo's friends, Bugle Bead. They adopted her instead, and Scootaloo's ears drooped as Bugle Bead walked out of the orphanage with her new parents. It happened a few more times, and soon Scootaloo was the only one left. Unfortunately for her, nopony else was there except for her and Ms. Harshwhinny. "I guess everypony else was adopted except you. So sad. Well, Adoption Day is over now. I guess you'll have to wait for another six months. So off to bed with you!" Harshwhinny demanded. Tears filled in Scootaloo's eyes as she slowly walked to her room. Just face it, Scoots; nopony wants you. she thought sadly. While the sad Pegasus filly was in her room, a mare tumbled in. "Wait! I want to adopt somepony! Is she still here?" she asked frantically. "Probably not, Miss. All the foals are gone. The only one left is a filly named Scootaloo." Harshwhinny answered. "Scootaloo? That's who I want to adopt! Please, can I have her?" the mare begged. "Take her, please! Then I can get a new job!" The mare rolled her eyes as Harshwhinny happily ran to get Scootaloo. Scootaloo followed an excited Harshwhinny to see who adopted her. Standing there was the pony she had least expected. She had a light blue coat and violet eyes. But with her signature rainbow colored mane, she was unmistakable. "R-r-r-r-rainbow D-d-d-dash?" Scootaloo stuttered. "The one and only!" Rainbow smiled proudly. "You're here to adopt... me?" "Of course, Scoots. I heard it was Adoption Day here and rushed so I could adopt you as my sister. But I got delayed because another foal got stuck in a well. Then a stroller with a baby inside of it was rushing down a cliff. Déjà vu, right?" Scootaloo nodded. "Then I noticed the time and saw that in a few minutes, Adoption Day would be over. I got here as fast as I could, and now, here we are." "But... why would you want me? Nopony else did. In fact, they gave me kind looks like they wanted me, but then they rolled their eyes and adopted somepony else." "I'm surprised they did that! I actually thought coming wasn't worth it, because I thought somepony had already gotten an awesome filly like you." Harshwhinny cleared her throat, clearly annoyed. "Hate to break up the moment," Yeah, right. Rainbow and Scootaloo thought at the same time. "but do you want the filly or not, Miss Rainbow Dash?" "Of course I want her!" Rainbow exclaimed. She signed the paper and then zoomed away with Scootaloo.
