> Tavi Tales > by VitalSpark > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Mistakes > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- She heard the key turn in the lock and sprung up, standing in front of the table. Vinyl trotted through the door and used her magic to close it behind her. "Hey, Tavi," she called cheerfully, walking towards the kitchen. Octavia shuffled nervously to the side, keeping her eyes on the unicorn. "What have you done today?" asked Vinyl, taking a sip on a carton of apple juice with a straw. "N-n-nothing!" stammered Octavia. Vinyl regarded her with suspicion. "I thought you were going out shopping today?" "Y-yes," said Octavia, trying to act casually. "Yes, I went and picked up some fruit and hay and stuff. But, I mean. Nothing unexpected. Nothing unplanned." Vinyl slowly walked over towards the grey mare. Octavia shuffled to the side again, trying to block Vinyl's view of the table. Vinyl could sense Octavia's discomfort. "What? Can't I give my marefriend a kiss?" Octavia's eyes flicked to the side, trying to judge whether Vinyl would be able to see what she'd done. "S-s-sure?" she answered half-heartedly. Vinyl leaned in to kiss Octavia, but at the last minute used her magic to levitate the contents of the table. * * * "I'm so sorry," said Octavia later, when they were sitting on the couch together. Vinyl held up the broken record that Octavia had hastily glued together. "And you actually expected I'd be able to play this again?" Octavia hung her head. Vinyl put the record down. "So how did you break it?" Octavia mumbled something. "Sorry?" said Vinyl, "I didn't hear that." "I said I was listening to it!" shouted Octavia, before clamping her hoof over her mouth, shocked at the volume of her admission. Vinyl smirked. "So, did you like it?" "Yes," admitted Octavia. Vinyl grinned. "You actually liked a dubstep record?" "Yes!" said Octavia. Vinyl wrapped her forelegs around her marefriend. "It's a good tune, that one. Do you want to listen to it together? It's a good thing I have like eight copies of it." > Tavi and Lyra Meet for Coffee > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Octavia sat down at the café. Her companion appeared to have something on her mind. "What's up, Lyra?" she asked, sliding a cup to her. Lyra took the cup and blew on the steaming hot liquid. "I'm sorry, it's just that Timfiction has been down all afternoon." "Timfiction?" asked Octavia, taking a sip of her coffee and grimaced slightly at the bitter liquid. "Yes, it's the best place on the Internet for My Little Human fanfics." Octavia added a little sugar to her drink and stirred it with a spoon before taking another sip, smiling, and putting down the cup. "Fanfix?" "Fan fiction," explained Lyra. "People who are fans of My Little Human: Technology Isn't Magic write their own stories and share them with other fans on Timfiction." "Ah," Octavia said with a little distate, "I've heard about that. 'Fappers' they're called I think." Lyra's eyes furtively flickered to the left. "Th-they're only a small proportion of the fanbase. Most of the fics are just cute little stories about humans doing cute human stuff." Octavia took a gulp of her coffee. "OK, if you say so. I have just one more question." Lyra used her magic to float the teabag out of her cup and place it on a saucer. "Sure, fire away." "What exactly is an 'Internet'?" > Tavi Makes Porridge for Vinyl Scratch > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Octavia lifted a measuring cup in her mouth and carefully measured out half a cup of oatmeal before pouring it into a saucepan. To that she added half a cup of whole milk and a full cup of water. She turned on the stove and gently heated the contents of the saucepan, stirring it occasionally with a wooden spoon. Once most of the liquid had been absorbed, she shook a little sprinkling of salt into the pan — not really necessary for today's porridge, but she did it out of force of habit. Now cooked, she poured the porridge into a bowl and allowed it some time to cool to a more reasonable temperature — she wouldn't want Vinyl to get scalded on hot porridge. She lifted the bowl and trotted over to where Vinyl was sitting before calmly pouring the warm porridge all over Vinyl's mane. "That's for fucking saying I looked pregnant!" > Tavi and Lyra Meet for Coffee Again > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Octavia sat down at the café and waited for her companion. Lyra arrived late. "Is it my turn to get the drinks?" Octavia nodded. "OK, I'll be right back," the unicorn added and headed to the counter. A few minutes later, Lyra arrived at the table levitating two cups. She set one down in front of Octavia and one in front of the empty seat, where she then sat herself. "So what have you been doing lately, Tavi?" Octavia took a sip of her coffee and let out a sigh. "Today, I've mostly been practising bipedal motion." Lyra's eyes flew open. "Bipedal motion?! Like walking on two legs?!" Octavia looked at the counter. She wished that Lyra would have gotten them a couple of slices of cake or something. "Yeah," she answered, "it's for when I'm playing cello, because you know, for some reason I play it standing up instead of seated." Lyra imagined Octavia walking around on just her hind legs, like a human, so tall, so graceful, so elegant. "We really need to have sex together." Octavia choked on her coffee. "Pardon?!!" She dabbed her mouth with a napkin. "What about Vinyl and Bonny?!" "Yeah, I suppose they can too. Whatever." > Tavi Teaches Noi a Lesson > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Octavia really needed to teach Noi a lesson. Lyra had told Octavia what had occurred between she and Noi, and it had been clear that only Octavia would be able to sort the problem out. Lyra had bought Noi a violin for some reason. Lyra didn't even know Noi — why had she bought her a violin? Octavia shook her head. Octavia knocked on the door of Noi's house, and it was answered by Banana Fluff, who was Noi's mother, and who looked strangely like someone had just coloured Lyra in using a different colour scheme. "Hi, I'm here to teach Noi a lesson," said Octavia to the yellow unicorn. "OK, come in, whoever you are," answered Banana. "She's up in her room. Why don't you head up there? I was just off out to work. I'll leave all the doors completely unlocked so you can let yourself out." Octavia shrugged and headed up the stairs, where she could hear an awful racket. When she got to Noi's bedroom, she found Noi playing tennis with a badly damaged racket. Noi herself was an orange–yellow earth pony, with a cutie mark that looked like a pillow, or a magnifying glass, or a chocolate cupcake, depending on how you looked at it. "I've come to give you a violin lesson," Octavia announced, "so stop playing tennis." Six hours later, Noi could play violin beautifully, all thanks to Octavia. > Tavi Goes to the Library > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Octavia slung her saddlebags over her back and slipped a copy of Phrygian Dominant Scales and What They Should Mean to You into the bag. She trotted off to the Golden Oak Library to return it. Rounding the corner, she spotted the librarian on a balcony near the top of the library, peering through a telescope. No doubt studying the stars, though why she'd do that in broad daylight was a mystery. Suddenly the librarian leapt from the balcony, cradling what appeared to be a brown ball of feathers and the library exploded behind her. Half-burnt books scattered the ground, and loose leaves of paper danced and twisted in the light breeze. The ball of feathers turned into an owl and flew away. And the librarian just disappeared. She heard a distant rumbling sound and looked in that direction to see flashing lights on the horizon, followed by an enormous and colourful explosion. Moments later the sound and shock wave of the explosion swept her off her hooves and she fell to the ground. "What was that?" she asked out loud, pulling herself back up. She watched as a further series of smaller explosions and lights played out in the distance, interspersed by purple streaks through the sky. Soon there was another enormous explosion. This time Octavia knew to brace herself for the shock, and managed to remain standing as it swept over her. Then everything was quiet. Octavia looked around at the burnt remains of the library surrounding her, her jaw hanging open. "Awesome!" she said. "Now I can keep the book!" > Tavi and Lyra Meet for Coffee Yet Again > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Sorry I'm late, Lyra," said Octavia, arriving at the café, pushing her cello case, "my train was delayed, and I had to come straight here from the station." "Don't worry," answered the minty green unicorn, draining her cup, "I started without you." Octavia pushed her cello case to the corner where it wouldn't get in anypony's way. "OK, I'll go get the drinks. Your usual?" Lyra shook her head. "Could you get me a latté with an extra shot?" Octavia shrugged and trotted to the counter, returning a couple of minutes later bearing a tray containing two cups of coffee and two blueberry muffins. She set it down on the table and took a seat. "Oooh! Muffins!" squealed Lyra, and helped herself to one. "So, you don't usually drink coffee," said Octavia. Lyra groaned. "Bonny was up until 4 am, making candy. I couldn't get to sleep." Octavia took a cautious sip of her drink. "Is candy-making really that loud?" "No," moaned Lyra, "it's that smell of burnt sugar. I've had to leave all the doors and windows open today when I came here." "What if somepony breaks in though?" asked Octavia with a look of concern. Lyra shrugged. "Why would they need to break in if the doors are all open?" Octavia buried her face in her hooves. Lyra could be dumb sometimes. "You know what I meant." "Oh, it's OK. The house isn't empty. Bonny's there." Octavia was confused. She took a sip of her coffee. "But isn't she at the shop today? Isn't that why she was making candy?" "She felt really unwell, so she called in sick. Twist is covering for her," explained Lyra. "Oh, poor Bonny." Lyra sipped her coffee. "Don't 'poor Bonny' her — it's her own fault. She shouldn't have stayed up from 4 am to 8 am eating all that candy!" Octavia didn't know what to say. Lyra looked at her blankly. "So have you had time to think about that sex?" > Tavi and Lyra Meet for Sex > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Octavia lay back on the bed, exhausted. "Well, that was certainly an experience I won't soon forget." Lyra tried to untangle herself from the straps, eventually using her magic to extricate herself. "I told you we should have sex, didn't I?" Octavia was tired, and a little thirsty. "Yes. Yes, you did. And you were right, as usual." Lyra lay beside her and yawned. "We really need to have coffee together."
