> Secrets of the Sun > by moonrose > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1: Prologue > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As Luna watched her sister's carriage leave the palace, she went over the words her sister has said to her. Make sure the guards are in their proper place. That was done. Don't forget your studies. Luna had finished her studies that morning. Keep an eye on Discord. Easier said than done. Speaking of Discord, Luna pondered, where was the creature of chaos? Discord failed to hold in snickers as he watched the palace guards tripping over each other and sliding around on their plots. Third time this week those idiots fell for his antics. This was just too much fun. Discord was slightly bummed he wasn’t at the Crystal Empire, watching Shining Armor and that new guard, what was his name? Flash Sentry? Watching them and the rest of the guard sliding on the slicked floor would be hilarious! Suddenly, a booming voice filled the hall. “DISCORD!!!!!!” Luna called as she skidded along the slippery floor. “WHAT HATH THOU DONE?!?!?” Discord sighed, what a buzz kill. "What have you done.” he corrected, “Get with the times! Nopony says ‘thou’ anymore." Luna growled “And I haven’t done anything, its the guard that wasn't watching where they were going” He continued with a smirk. “THAT-” Luna cleared her throat, in order to lower her voice to normal volume “That was completely unnecessary, we are trying to become more modern, but the Equestrian language chances much.” “Who’s ‘we’?” Discord slyly asked. Luna glared at him. “Ugh, you’re no fun, OK, ok. I’ll clean up” “Yes, do. Then please behave for the rest of the afternoon. please?” Luna hated to beg Discord, but this was Luna’s first time running the castle without Celestia, she didn’t want anything to go wrong. Discord snapped his fingers and the oil he had "accidentally" spilled on the floor vanished. A gigantic bar of pink soap slid around the floor causing the royal guard to be caught in big pink bubbles. The guards yelped as they bounced around. Luna glared at Discord “I’m not making any promises” He said as he slowly dissolved and vanished, leaving Luna wondering what could possibly go wrong. Discord jumped from painting to painting, wonder what kind of mischief he could get himself into. As he passed the library corridor, Discord noticed that one of bookshelves had been moved. Normally Discord wouldn’t have cared, but the bookshelf had split in half like a double door, revealing a passage way. Discord chuckled, who had been so foolish as to leave this golden opportunity wide open? Discord jumped out the painting he had been traveling in, which consisted of three royal guard captains, and quickly ran into the passageway. The more Discord traveled, the darker the corridor got. So dark, in fact, that Discord walked face-first into a wall. "Ouch" He said, grateful that no one saw that. Discord lifted his paw and slid it along the wall. His paw found a little bump that, upon closer inspection, turned out to be a door knob. "What have we here?" Discord said quietly to himself. He turned the knob, curious as to know what was behind that door. Luna walked down the corridor. She sighed happily. After managing to get the guards out of the bubbles, she had taken a long relaxing shower. Now, as she trotted to her room, she listened to the sounds of the castle. The birds were chirping, the sun was shining, nothing was breaking... wait she thought to herself. She listened closer. There was no sound of chaos at all. No screams, no breaking glass, no whoopee cushions, no... anything. It was quiet, a little too quiet. That could only mean one thing... Discord was planning something. But what, Luna couldn't be sure. Luna turned around and went back the way she came. First she would check the kitchen, Discord's favorite spot when it came to pranking. If he wasn't in the kitchen... well, she'd think of something. So much for trying to relax Luna thought to her self as she began her mission to find Discord, and stop him from causing mischief. That was... if he hadn't already started. > Chapter 2: What Have We Here > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "DISCORD!?!" Luna yelled across the castle. Nothing. Not a peep. Not one sound reached the royal mare's ears.It was much too quiet. Luna ran up and down the corridors trying to find the sneaky draconequs. She needed to find him before all hell broke loose. Luna had already checked all the main rooms. She had also checked his main targets, such as the kitchen, Celestia's room, and the royal gaurd chambers. There was no trace of him. It was a though he had vanished! Perhaps he had gone back to his dwelling? Luna pondered Or perhaps he is biding his time, waiting to strike. Where was that trickster, and what was he up too? Discord stood back as the door slowly opened to reveal... a book. Just a book. It was sitting atop an old pedestal that discord was sure was from back before Celestia even existed. The room was small, and dimly lit but other than the book there wasn't much else. Discord sighed, all that excitement and mystery for a dusty old book?! "What a rip off" Discord thought out loud "I mean, if you're gonna go to the trouble of hiding something so well, you could at least make it interesting!" Then Discord noticed writing on the cover. There was no dust to brush off, and, as Discord picked it up, the book looked remarkably well kept. There, written on the cover in red ink, were the words CELESTIA'S PERSONAL DIARY. DO NOT TOUCH. TOUCH THIS BOOK, AND I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE, I WILL FIND YOU. AND I WILL KILL YOU. Discord laughed, as if a petty warning could stop him. "Celestia's dairy?!? oh this should keep me entertained for a while" Discord cracked open this wonderful find and began to read. Life as a Princess is boring. So boring, in fact, that I have to write in a stupid diary to keep me entertained! Oh how I long for adventure and some fun! Why, if I were aloud to leave the castle, I would go to those far away places like the griffin kingdom, instead of Star Swril's stupid library. I would run around the town and play with other fillies and colts. I would have friends And I would be able to live my own life. Sometimes I wonder what would happen if I just ran off. But then Equestria would be left without a heir to the throne. I have to go, my mother is calling Discord yawned, he had expected some more juicy details in this book. Discord flipped through the pages until he found a page that contained his name. Well I finally did it. I escaped my lessons to have some fun. I was thrilled! I could eat what I wanted, do what I wanted. And for once, I could be who I wanted. I only had few minutes before Star Swirl noticed I was gone. I wandered the garden looking for a way over the gate that kept me contained in this prison. It took a while before I remembered I had wings. I flapped them up and down until I reached the top of the gate. Flying is a lot harder than pegasi make it look. I missed my target and ended up falling on to my plot on the other side of the gate. Oops. I began to run. I had no clear destination, I just ran. I had gotten to a far hill before I ran out of breath. Once up there, I began to ponder my situation. I certainly couldn't go to the village, they would send me home. I had only begun to consider my options when something wet and brown fell from the sky onto me. It smelt like... Chocolate?. I liked some of it of my hoof, it tasted like chocolate too. That was when I heard snorts and giggles. I looked up and saw the most peculiar creature, sitting atop a pink cloud. It was a strange creature. It had a long, snake like body. It's limbs were those of different animals, it looked... Odd Discord smirked. Odd was one of the kinder ways that had been used to describe him. I asked him who he was. He told me his name was Discord. We talked for a while. It turns out that Discord was a draqoniquis (is that how you spell it?) and he came from another kingdom. It was the same kingdom my parents declared war on a few years before I was born. Discord told me that both his parents died in the war, and he was the only one of his species left. I felt terrible, after all, it was my parents fault he was alone. We chatted some more and found out we had a lot in common. But Discord could do whatever he wanted, he had no rules and no one to listen to. He's so lucky!! Discord was slightly confused. He and Celestia used to be friends?!? When?! Discord had no memory of this. Discord flipped the page hoping to learn more about this phenomenon. "WHAT IN EQUESTRIA'S SWEET NAME DO YOU THINK THOU ART DOING?!?" Discord turned his head so quickly he nearly got whiplash. And standing in the secret passage, was a very tired, very angry blue alicorn. "Oh... hi Luna" > Chapter 3: A Baby Moon > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "We have been looking for you everywhere!!" Luna nearly screamed. Discord wiped flecks of spit from his face. "Awww Luna," He appeared right next to her, wrapping his scaly arm around her shoulder, "I always knew you cared about me." Luna scrunched up her nose. "We most certainly do not," She said, pushing the creature away. "We were told to make sure you behaved." Discord stuck his tongue out at her before returning to the book. Luna looked at it curiously. "What does thou have in thy hand?" "A book." Luna flattened her expression. Discord showed her the cover. "Why do we get the feeling that thou should not be reading this... OH WAIT! We know... because it's not yours" Luna said angrily. "Oh come on Luna! Don't act like you're not curious about what goes on in your sister's head." Discord said, waving the book mockingly in her face. Luna didn't say anything. She turned, shaking her head, and started to walk away. Discord quickly flipped to a random page and began to read out loud. Today might be the best day ever! I, Celestia, have just learned that I am going to have a baby sister! Luna froze, Discord kept reading. I'm soooooooooo excited. Why? because this means that I can leave! I don't have to stay! My sister can become the princess and I can live a normal life! I told Discord, and he's helping me come up with a cover up for my escape. I cannot wait. Luna turned and walked closer. She couldn't believe what she was hearing. This had to be a trick. Celestia was always proper and ready to put her duty before herself. She never once tried to abandon her duties. She never would've thought like this, would she? Discord looked at her, smirked, and turned the page. I haven't written in a while. Mother is quite ill. Or at least, ill-tempered. She is very grumpy, and father needs a lot of help taking care of her and getting ready for the baby. Just another reason to get out of here as fast as I possibly can. Who could've thought a king ruling over a massive kingdom can't handle a pregnant mare?? Stallions are weird. Perhaps when I'm gone, Father will have to learn to care for the baby himself. That would be funny to watch. I have to go, Discord is at my window. he really needs to be more careful, there are guards everywhere. Luna could hardly process what she heard. So many things were wrong with this. She needed to calm down and ask the important questions "Celestia was thou friend during thy childhood years?" "I'm just shocked as you are LuLu, although it is starting to come back to me a bit. I've been alive for so long, well, you know how it is." Luna nodded. "How did thou find this?" "The 'secret' door was left wide open, I was curious." That doesn't sound like Tia, but then again, none of this really does. Discord was sitting, with the book open, lost in his thoughts. Luna sat down. "What else does it say?"
