> The Music of This World. > by Lady Lorelei > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Music of This World. > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Vinyl stood beside the open door of the flat her gaze fixed upon the gray coated mare whos back was turned to her, her hues were looking outside the open window the room filling with silence. Vinyl slowly trotted over to her friend Octavia leaning inward ever so softly as she whispered something into her ear, The mare only huffed aloud never looking back her embrace icy and hollow. Within seconds Vinyl slowly made her way outside using her magic to close the door behind her, the room stayed silent even as Octavia turned away from the window and headed off to her room. The night slowly faded away as morning took its place, so hard did the mare try to drown out her thoughts with a melody from her soul yet no matter what the music did not come. Rolling out of the satin sheets atop her bed she stumbled hoof over hoof towards the living area, her eyes filled with drowsiness as a cool draft caught her attention. Violet colored hues gazed back to the open window as she trotted over to it in silence, her heart began to ache as her slender frame prompt upon the window sill tears softly forming in her eyes. The dew atop the trees outside slowly ran down the leaves, each dainty drop falling down to the earth in a haunting melody of nature playing out similar to a piano solo. " I stay up this morning and stare up to the sky, I wonder where we went wrong. How we drifted apart and why? Slowly the memories return to me. And I can see the pain in your eyes. You begged me to come with you. Yet instead I made you cry. Now The Music of This World, Is so faint I can not see. I no longer feel your embrace. Nor your gaze fixed upon me. The Music of This World- The Joy, The Splendor, The Melody! I can barely hear it now. Without you by my side. By my side... " **** Octavia slowly trailed off her voice cracking ever so softly, holding back tears from trailing down her cheeks she allowed her mind to drift to the many nights before. " I know you like it here in Canterlot Octavia., but this new label in Manehattan promises me I can finally make something of my art." Vinyl spoke her voice trembling slightly as Octavia turned away from the window, a sudden chill running down her backside. Yet before she could part her lips to speak her memories took hold, speaking for her reciting those hateful words from days passed. " Art?!- Vinyl you are chasing a foolish dream! " Octavia hissed stomping her hooves across the floor of the flat her eyes narrowed in anger. " You are up-rooting yourself because of hollow promises!- trying to leave a good thing behind! " Octavia snapped as she stomped a hoof roughly on the floor sending a loud thud through the room. " I don't want to do it alone I already asked if you would..." Vinyl was cut off by Octavia huffing aloud rolling her violet colored hues. " I will not give up what I built here to accompany you to chase some dumb dream!! " Octavia felt the words escape her muzzle in a icy hiss as Vinyl simply allowed her ears to fold back in silence. " At least I have a dream. " Vinyl spoke her eyes filled with such a sense of pain as she turned away from her friend. The memories faded back to the past as Octavia turned back to the window, her whole body felt limp from the realization of how she acted all those days ago. Vinyl tried to share something special with her, yet out of fear and spite she turned her back on her friend when she needed her the most. The day itself had passed along quickly, the sky above slowly turning from a bright blue to a cloudy grey hue. Her thoughts returning back to Vinyl, as her eyes gazed out across the land outside the pain within growing. " I gaze up to the afternoon sky. Think of how I lost you and wonder why? I thought my path was endless. The fame, the music it was my destiny! But now that you are gone. All I can think about, is how you are not with me. Now The Music of This World. Grows so faint I can not see. The sky is no longer blue. The grass no more green. I can only watch as the leaves cascade down from the trees. My mind racing back to memories of you and me. The caress of a hoof. The meeting of our eyes. I must admit now. I miss you at my side. At my side... " *** Vinyl slowly crept up behind the shivering mare, her cheeks stained with tears as she gazed out to the night outside the whole day had passed, her numb body never moving from its place. Slowly Vinyl placed her muzzle on Octavias collarbone gently massaging towards the nape of her neck, Octavia merely whimpered aloud softly as the white mare lifted her muzzle up to her ear whispering a few last words. " You will always be my Melody..." Vinyl spoke heart heavy from all the fighting, yet her soul re-newed she would soon start a new adventure in her life. Slowly turning around Vinyl walked over to the open door of the Flat, within seconds she was gone using her magic to close the door behind her leaving her Melody behind. Octavia allowed the night air to caress her muzzle softly as tears flowed freely now, turning around to face the closed door she knew she had been trying with all her power to forget Vinyl this day. Yet it wasn't possible. Her friend needed her, she needed her. The train to Manehattan wasn't to leave until seven tonight. Octavia's eyes glanced to her clock on the wall, her heart sinking as it read six-fifty. She would never make it in time! Vinyl had a dream, one she wished to share with her friend. Willing to give her a place to stay, offering to even take time and help her renew her own art. Yet she stomped that dream with a negative outlook, for she can see now that a dream is not for oneself. But a treasure that is shared with those you... Love. " VINYL !!! " Octavia screamed out from the top of her lungs outside the open window., tears running down her cheeks she galloped towards the door- she had to see her, just one last time. " The sky of the night, is no longer bright. The stars above, just don't seem to shine. " Octavia galloped across the cold, damp streets of Canterlot shivering down to the bone. Her heart was racing in her chest as her mane flew back to the cold wind wildly, the air escaping her muzzle came out as warm steam her eyes stinging from the cold air of the night. Her body begged her to stop, yet her heart pushed her forward - hooves acheing and body strained she pushed ahead. " I threw away our love, because of my selfish pride! You gave me your heart, The light burning inside! Yet all my icy heart would do, is run away and hide! " Octavia took a sharp turn on her way towards the train station, her hooves slid across the wet stone of the walkway underneath her hooves as she fell to the ground. Her small body tumbled across the rough walkway, body acheing her pink bow around her neck unraveling as the wind whisked it off into the night sky. The howling of the trains whistle echoed around her, the mare slowly got up to her hooves her muscles burning from the pain within. She was so close, she had to push ahead. " Now The Music of This World... The Joy... The Splendor... The Melody... I can barely hear it now! The dancing of the notes I can not see! I see now it was your love, that inspired me! Always pushing me to believe! " The wind pushed against the mare as she galloped at full speed to the train station, the night air chilling her down to her very core as her whole body had become numb. Eyes searched around for any sign of the train, yet none were to be found the station was completely empty. Not a soul could be found around her, the wind howled wickedly from high above as she felt her hooves at long last give out. Her body ploped down on the ground with a dull thud, eyes burning with tears as she gazed up high to the sky her whole sense of self lost. The words slowly escaping her soul being carried off by the wind, into the darkness around her. " It was the music that you gave me... That made the world so bright... Without your lovely Orchestra... I have no Melody... I miss your embrace. Your heart next to mine. The warmth of your light and sound of your laugh... It was just so divine... Now The Music of This World is gone. The notes I can no longer see. Without you by my side! I have no Melody... " The wind blew through Octavias mane softly, her violet hues closing out of a broken heart. The chance to share a dream gone, whisked away into the night. Deep down she only wished Vinyl would follow the choice that would bring her happiness. Even if that choice did not involve her. Sobbing softly alone on the ground, her ears folded back gently the darkness of the night comforting her much like a quilt. " Octavia? " A voice spoke through the darkness. The mare simply opened her eyes. The voice was music to her ears.
