Sweetie was in the living room of Rarity's Carousel boutique looking at a piece of paper.

"Sweetie," she thought, "What have you gotten yourself into?"

She had just returned from Dr. Stables office and was sitting on Rarity's fainting couch. The fourteen year old mare had gone because she had been feeling queezy and the occasional craving for hay-fries. She went in, hoping that what she was going in for was not true.

Rumble had stayed over about a month ago for a graduation project. Unfortunately , that is not all they did. To make matters worse, she was in heat at the time. At this point, Sweetie regretted what they did that night.

Sweetie walked into the office and nurse Red Heart was behind the desk.

"Oh, hello Sweetie!" she said when she looked up from her paperwork and saw the mare, "What can I do for you today?"

Sweetie was so glad that there was no-pony else there. "Um, Red Heart," She said nervously, "I need a pregnancy test."

This answer shocked the nurse who then looked up from her work. "Sweetie, what is the story here?"

"Can we just get this over-with?" Sweetie asked as she saw the door start to open, "I don't want any-pony to find out yet if it is true."

Red Heart looked at Sweetie for a little bit which made her feel uncomfortable. "Alright, come with me please." Red Heart lead he to the back and they did the basics. To make a long story short, the results came out positive.

Sweetie was not ready for Rarity to come home from her afternoon with Fluttershy. She was not ready to tell her or Rumble. Sweetie was glad that Rumble was coming over for one last sleep over before they graduated on Monday. After that, Sweetie planned to home-college herself. She heard the front door open, took a deep breath and grabbed the card she had gotten on the way home. It said, "Congratulations, Auntie!" and Sweetie had put the papers in there as well.

"Sweetie Belle!" Rarity called to her, "I'm back! and Rumble was at the door when I got here! Sweetie?"

"Hey Sweetie!" he called when he saw her, "What-ch-ya doin?"

Sweetie eyed the envelope in her saddle bag, sighed, and levitated it to Rarity with her green aura. Rarity looked at it skeptically but eventually opened it. When she read what the front said, she turned a shocked face toward Sweetie. She then opened the card and the papers fell out. Now Rarity was even more surprised; but when she went to pick the papers up, Rumble beat her to them. After about thirty seconds, his wings began to twitch, and then they sprang out. His eyes were wide with shock and his eyes were twitching. Now Rarity couldn't take the suspense of not knowing what was going on. She grabbed the papers with her magic, read them, and told Sweetie to move off of her fainting couch. Then, out of nowhere, Rumble was instantly holding Sweetie in front of him, saying:

"Sweetie, what did I just read? I thought I was reading a paper that said you were pregnant and I was the dad!"

"Rumble," Sweetie sighed dreading the fact that she had to tell him this, "That was what you read. I'm so sorry Rumble! I should have told you I was in heat! I am so sorry!"

"Sweetie, are you positive?" Rumble asked her, "Are you absolutely positive?"

"Positive," Sweetie said as she looked at him, "Will you be there for it's life?"

"Always Sweetie," Rumble said as he hugged her tightly, "Always..."

Chapter one, The New Life Begins

"Where are they?! Why aren't they here yet?! They should've been here by now!" a white unicorn filly said to her Aunt. Her parents had gotten married about a month ago and today was the day that they would return from their honeymoon from Neighagra Falls.

"Honey, they should be along soon!" Rarity told the filly while she was holding her tummy for she was two months along now, "So get away from that window, you are putting hoof prints on it."

"Can you help me with my project?" Emerald asked Rarity, for she was working on a blanket to give her friend Feline Fluff and she was also making a welcome card for the new exchange student, Thunder Lightning, "I just don't know what colors to use!"

"Try that blue paper over there," Rarity said as she pointed toward a stack of paper.

"Okay," The filly sighed. Then, out of nowhere, she had an idea! "Oh! Opal! Where are- oh there you are! Yes I love you too! Want to do something?" Rarity stared in amazement at how she managed to become friends with the cat. "You want a new bow?" The cat nodded, "Great! I can make you one! Rarity, can you teach me how to make a bow?"

Rarity was stunned at how well Emerald was with Opal, she even wondered why she had not gotten her cutie mark with this. "Bring me that pink material from over there please"

Emerald rushed to go get it, tripping over her crayons in the process. "I'm ok!" She called as she ran to get the material, "Here you go!"

After three prototypes made by Rarity, it took another three for Emerald to get the hang of it. "Wow! I think I'm starting to get the hang of it! Let me try it one more time!" She tried and it was done in less than three minutes.

"Goodness Emerald!" Rarity exclaimed, "Slow down! I mean, you did wonderful on this, but you don't want to rush to much!"

"I know!" Emerald said as she ran to put the bow she had just made on Opal, "But I just didn't want Opal to wait too long!"

"Wait too long for what?" A voice said as it came through the door.

"Mommy!" Emerald nearly screamed as she ran at full speed toward her mother.

"Oh, Emerald," Sweetie said as she held Emerald in her fore-hooves, "I missed you too."

"Can I join the group hug?" Rumble said as he brought a bag in.

"Duh!" Emerald exclaimed, "Of coarse you can!"

Rarity watched as the family took the moment to hug each other until Rumble decided to say something.

"Just think Emerald!" He said as he broke from the group hug, "Soon, we will be in a house bigger than the clubhouse! And you will even have your own room!"

"My own room?!" Emerald exclaimed for she had never had her own room, "How could this day get any better? Oh wait, it can't!" Emerald laughed.

"Actually," Rarity said as she picked the filly up, "I know what can make it better" Rarity pointed toward Emeralds flank and it was like her eyelids disappeared. Her mouth also went as wide open as it could go. Sweetie saw this and quickly put her hooves in her ears and crouched toward the floor. Rumble saw this and immediately followed her actions. it was then that Emerald screamed. This was not just any scream, it cracked the glass plates that were on the table. Yep, Emerald had gotten her cutie mark.

"Sorry," Emerald said, "I'll pay for your plates Aunt Rarity. But mommy, how could today get any better?"

"I don't know sweetie!" Sweetie said, "How about being told that you would be a big sister?"

"Yea that would do it." Emerald said

"Your going to be a big sister," Rumble said.

Emerald went into shock.

Hospital

“Emerald, Emerald!” The filly head as she started to regain consciousness, “Emerald, honey, wake up!”

“Mommy,” Emerald asked as the shape of her mother came into view, “What happened?”

“Honey, you passed out!” Sweetie said as she held her fillies hoof, “Are you ok? Does anything hurt?”

“No,” Emerald responded as she got her bearings, “Where am I?!” She exclaimed as she realized that she was not at her Aunt Rarity’s house. She was in a very white room. “Mommy, am I in a hospital?!”

“Honey,” Sweetie said. At this point, Emerald noticed that she was the only one in there, “You were jumping on the couch when you passed out. We told you that you were going to be a big sister and you went to jump to daddy, but you went into shock mid-air. You landed on one of Aunt Rarity’s vases.”

“Is that why my hoof is wrapped up?” Emerald asked as she looked at the pink bandage on her hoof, “And why is it pink? I hate pink, why can’t I have green?!”

“Well it sounds like you are back to normal,” Rarity said as she walked into the room. She was holding three coffees in her magic, “And to answer your question, they only had pink and black. We figured that you would rather have the pink than the black.”

“You got that right!” Emerald said as her face twisted in disgust, “So, when can I get out of here? This place sucks.”

“I know it does honey,” Sweetie said as she took a sip of her coffee, then gagging, “Not only do the rooms stink, the coffee does too. Rarity, can you go get coffee? Only this time not from the family waiting area, but from Starebucks. Please?”

“Darling,” Rarity said as she brought her cup of coffee to her lips, “It’s not like the coffee here is that bad- SWEET CELESTIA!” Rarity cried as the taste of the coffee reached her tongue, “This coffee is terrible! Where are those complaint cards? Oh, Sweetie, I am going to get decent coffee here if it is the last thing I do! I mean, the least they could do is give us cream or sugar to put in it!”

“So,” Sweetie said with a grin, “You will go to Starebucks for me?”

“Yes,” Rarity responded as she grabbed the cups, “And I don’t even know what Rumble would do if he tasted this!”

Rarity left the room, taking a complaint card as she went. Sweetie and Emerald talked for about an hour when Rumble finally came in. This time, Emerald saw something different about her dad.

“YOU’RE A WONDERBOLT?!”Emerald nearly screamed, “But- You- How- When-… My dad is a Wonderbolt. Excuse me, Mr. Wonderbolt!”

“Yes little filly,” Rumble said, playing along, “How may I help you?”

“Can I have your autograph?” Emerald asked as she looked intently ad her dad, “I want to put a picture of my hero on my wall!”

“Oh,” Rumble said as he raised an eyebrow, “So, now that I’m a Wonderbolt, I’m your hero?”

“No!” Emerald said she motioned her dad for a hug, “You were always my hero, I just never had a picture of my hero for my wall!”

Rumble felt like he wanted to cry. His little filly, whom everypony thought he abandoned, thought of him as a hero. He hugged his little filly for a long time. When she started to squirm, he let go and handed her a bag.

“What’s this?” Emerald asked as she looked at the green bag with white paper, “It’s not my birthday, that’s in a month!”

“Just open it!” Rumble said as he sat on the bed. Emerald pulled the paper out of the bag and saw that there was a card inside. She opened it and read aloud what it said.

“’My little big filly, I hope that you are having a good time in the hospital.’ How can I have a good time in here?! Anyways, ‘While I was at Wonderbolt practice, I saw this little something and thought on my little big filly. I thought that you would enjoy it and so I got it for you. So stop reading this card aloud and open the rest of the bag!’ You know me so well.” Emerald said as she put the card down.

She pulled the rest of the paper out of the bag and looked inside. Well, she would have if a balloon hadn’t have floated out. After the balloon was tied to the end of the bed, she finally got a look at was inside. Her eyes went wide as she pulled out a mini Wonderbolt uniform. This uniform was special, not only because it was small, but because it didn’t have wing holes but a place for her horn. She looked in the bag and saw something in the bottom of the bag she pulled it out and saw something that made her eyes grow even wider. It was a poster of the Wonderbolts signed by the Wonderbolts!

“Oh, daddy!” Emerald exclaimed as she held up the poster, “This is the best gift ever, thank you daddy!”

“Anything for my little big filly,” Rumble said as he gave Emerald another hug, “I’m glad that you like it.”

After a while Ruble took his uniform off and just sat on the bed talking to Emerald. It was about three when Emerald had a visitor.

“How is my favorite eight year old filly?” Twilight Sparkle said as she came in the door, “Hi Rumble, Sweetie.”

“Hi Twilight,” Emerald exclaimed as she saw her mentor at the door, “Please tell me you brought books! This place lacks a decent library!”

“Well that’s not good!” Twilight said as she walked toward the bed, “You know what, I didn’t bring any books, but I brought something better.”

“What could be better?” Emerald asked.

“My niece, Crystal,” Twilight said as a Crystal alicorn walked through the door, “Emerald, meet my sixteen year old niece, Crystal Lily.”

“Hi Emerald,” Crystal said as she walked toward the bed, “What happened to you?”

“Let me sum it up in ten words,” Emerald said as Crystal handed her a book, “My parents told me I was going to be a sister.”

“Oh, I know that feeling,” Crystal said as she sat on the bed next to Rumble, “My mom just gave birth to a little colt. When she told me and my sister that we would get a brother, we literally exploded with excitement that would put Pinkie Pie to shame!”

“Crystal, I need to get back to the library, do you mind if I send C. C. in here?” Twilight asked the teen.

“Sure Aunt Twilight,” Crystal said, “I think Emerald would like to meet my cousin and sister.”

“Alright,” Twilight said as she headed for the door, “I’ll send them in.”

“Um, Twilight,” Sweetie said to the Princess, “The doctor said that Emerald could go home. Do you mind if they come to our house?”

“Depends,” Twilight said, “Are you going to Rarity’s or do you guys have a home?”

“Oh, we have one,” Rumble said, “It’s my old place.”

“Alright,” Twilight said, “I’ll tell them that you will be going home soon.” And with that, twilight left the room. It wasn’t long before two figures poked their heads through the doorway. The first one was a pink-ish filly about Emerald’s age. When she walked in, Emerald saw that it was an alicorn and assumed that it was Crystal’s sister. The second figure poked its head in first. Emerald could tell that it was a colt probably a year older than her. But when he walked in, Emeralds eyes went wide.

“Didn’t expect me to look like this did you?” The colt asked, if you could call it a colt. The entire left side of the colt was a normal pony, but both his right hooves were different. The back right leg had a goat’s hoof and the front leg had an eagle talon. He was all sorts of colors. Part of him was yellow, another was green, and then some brown. His hair, which you can’t really explain, was purple and green, “Don’t worry, I get stares all the time, I’m used to it.”

“Well,” Emerald said as she shook her head, “I shouldn’t stare. Mom says that it’s rude. My name is Emerald by the way!”

“Hello Emerald,” The colt said, “My name is Counter Chaos. And if you couldn’t tell already, Twilight is my mom. My dad is Discord, the dreconicus.”

“Oh,” Emerald gasped, “You dad is Mr. Discord?! I love Mr. Discord! Will all of that chocolate rain! Oh, can you tell him that his chocolate milk goes amazingly with waffles?”

“Sure,” Chaos said, “I can tell him.”

“What am I,” The alicorn filly said,” Chopped liver?”

“Oh, sorry Skyla,” Chaos said, “Emerald, meet my cousin, Skyla!”

“Hi Skyla!” Emerald said to the filly, “So, what are some things that you like to do?”

“If this is about me not having a cutie mark,” She threatened, “Don’t even go there!”

“Sorry!” Emerald exclaimed, “Chaos, what does your cutie mark mean?”

“Oh,” Chaos said as his ears folded back, “It means that I am great with watch Chaos. In other words, I can change things, making it look like it did a few hours ago with the snap of a talon!”

“That sounds cool!” Emerald said as Sweetie removed the covers so that Emerald could get up so they could go home, “I just got my cutie mark and I don’t even know what it means. But enough about cutie marks! What are some things you guys like to do; something that we could do when we get home?”

“Well, Sweetie said that she has some board games,” Crystal said, “Let’s stick with that, ok?”

“Ok,” Emerald said, “And guys?”

“What?” They all said.

“Thanks for being my friends.”

“So this is your place?” Crystal said as she and the others walked in, “Neato! Oh and thank you guys for letting us stay.”

“You are quite welcome!” Sweetie said as she imitated Rarity, then she and Crystal shared a laugh, “But seriously, it’s no problem. I love having friends over!” It was then that there was a knock at the door. “Excuse me.”

“So, what’s it like living here?” Chaos said after Rumble and Sweetie left the room, “I mean your parents are totally awesome!”

“To be honest, I don’t know,” Emerald said as she tried taking a few steps forward in the cast, “Mom and dad have only been married for a month.”

“Whoa, whoa, whoa,” Skyla said when she heard this, “So you’re telling me that you are adopted?”

“What, no!” Emerald said as she quickly turned her head toward Skyla, “Don’t say such a thing! I mean, yea mom and dad made a mistake, but that doesn’t mean that I’m mad at them! I get enough about being a mistake at school. There are these three kids, see; Ruby, Shine, and Silver Nugget. We officially crowned them the mean girls at school last year. When they found out that I was, as they call it, a ‘mistake,’ they never let it go! So when I miss something at the blackboard, they wait until recess to just say, ‘Oh, look guys, that’s the mistake that made the mistake!’ I just hate it!”

“I don’t think you’re a mistake,” Chaos said as he put a hoof on her shoulder, “Those girls are just mean! Don’t pay any attention to them.”

“Let me guess,” A mare said as she walked into the room, “Are these the children of the Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon?”

“Yes Aunt Apple Bloom,” Emerald said to the mare in the doorway, “Weren’t they the mean girls at the school when you guys went to school?”

“Yep,” Scootaloo said as she grabbed a marker from Emeralds box of art supplies, “Hold still, I want to write on your cast. Anyways, they were very mean, mean bees. They called Bloomy an orphan, Sweetie Squeaky Belle, and me a dodo.”

“Yea, but what about me,” Babs said as she came into the room, “Don’t you remember what happened when I ditched them in the mud? ‘You little’ not gonna say that, ‘I’ll get you for this!”

“Yea, I remember that,” Sweetie said as she grabbed the marker from Scoots, “That was the worst by far. Anyways, guys, I have tea downstairs, shall we?”

The girls headed downstairs after Sweetie gave the kids some games to play.

“Did the narrator just call me a kid?” asked Crystal.

“Narrator?” Emerald asked.

“Shh!” Skyla said, “Don’t ruin it!”

After about five games of Scrabble, three games of darts, four games of Racko, nine games of skip-bo; the kids were board out of their minds.

“What now?” Emerald asked as she put the last game away, “We played all the games I have.”

“Not all of them!” Chaos said as he got an idea, “Guys, I have an idea for a game! Alright, so Emerald sits on her bed right there and then she tells us where to put stuff from her boxes. The person who unpacks the most boxes gets a mega chocolate bar.”

“I’m in!” Emerald said as she skipped toward her bed, “If I get to boss you guys around, I’m game!”

“Hah, you would,” Crystal said as she got off the floor, “But I guess I’m in.”

“Well,” Skyla said as she got up and jumped on Crystals back, “If you all are doing it, so shall I!”

“Well,” Emerald said as she made herself comfortable on the bed, “With the three of you, this shouldn’t take long at all! And, begin!”

They all rushed to put stuff away. They all grabbed a box, and went to put it away. Emerald gave Chaos extra points because he put her desk together. When it was all said and done, Emerald had a room that was so neat and organized; she didn’t know where anything was.

“Wow!” She exclaimed as she looked at her room, “Look at this! Chaos, this was an awesome idea!”

“Thank you, thank you!” Chaos said as he took a bow.

“So,” Emerald said with a board expression on her face, “Now what?”

They all sighed; they had had so much fun that now they missed it.

“Wait!” Emerald exclaimed, “Mom still has some kitchen stuff that needs to be put away; we could do that!”

“You know,” Chaos said as he walked toward her, “I don’t know where you get these amazing ideas!”

They all headed downstairs, rushing to get to the stairs first. When they got to where the girls were they told them about their idea. Sweetie agreed to let them do this and just tell them where they put everything afterwards. Chaos made duct tape appear on the floor where they would put their boxes and made a sound like a gun. They all had fun rushing around the kitchen, going this way and that. When the last box was grabbed, the rest of them sat down to count their boxes.

“I got five!” Emerald said rather proud of herself.

“I got five too!” Chaos said as he showed Emerald his boxes.

“Yea, well I got six,” Crystal said as she showed her boxes, “Beat that!”

“I can!” Skyla said as she showed the boxes she had, “I have twelve boxes!”

They all congratulated her and it was then that they heard a knock at the door. Twilight had come to take the other kids back to the Crystal Empire and the rest of the CMC had to go home. When they all left and the house was quiet, Emerald was asleep. The next day, when she awoke, she hated the day already. Even though it was the week before last of school; today was the school play. It’s not that she didn’t like plays, she loved them! It’s just that she had managed to get the lead role that Silver Nugget had wanted so badly.

She pleaded with her mother to let her skip school until the play but Sweetie said no. When she got to school, she heard what she dreaded; Silver Nugget.

“Hey mistake!” Silver called to Emerald as she ran toward her, “I hope you came to tell Mrs. Cheerilee that you want to give the part of Marlon to me!”

“Sorry, but no,” Emerald said as she expected to be punched in the gut.

“What?!” Silver exploded, “How dare you defy me! Go tell her right now or suffer the consequences!”

“I- I- I won’t do it!” Emerald said as the playground went dead quiet.

“Oh, you asked for it punk!” Silver said as she threw a punch at Emerald; but the blow never came. Emerald looked at Silver and saw that she was punching at a little force field between her and Emerald. “How did that get there?” Emerald asked as she took her chance to run. She ran toward the schoolhouse where she knew she would be safe; but she ran into something. This something was tall and it looked down at Emerald. Its eyes opened and glowed at Emerald. And this terrified Emerald more than Silver. It then opened its mouth, and spoke.

Emerald was terrified. She was staring at the black figure in front of her; she did not know what to expect. It was just... standing there. Finally, after what felt like forever, it spoke.

"Are you ok Emerald?" The figure asked. For some reason, that voice sounded familiar to Emerald. Then she saw the figure lift up an arm, if it was an arm; and it made a weird snapping sound. Then, a wave of light flashed over the figure and it was no longer the dark, black figure.

"Chaos?" Emerald asked as she looked at the chaotic being, "Chaos, what are you doing here?"

"I'm here on behalf of princess Twilight Sparkle." Chaos said as he straitened his posture and held his head high.

"You here what for who now?" Emerald asked.

"I am here on some business for Twilight Sparkle." Chaos said as he faced Silver Nugget, who was wide eyed in shock at the sight of him, "Tell me, young filly, what business do you have to try and harm this filly?"

"What's it to you?" Silver said as she looked suspiciously at Chaos, "Why do you even care about that mistake?"

With that remark, Chaos turned all black and his eyes went blood red. "How dare you!" Chaos yelled in a royal Canterlot voice, "How dare you call this filly a mistake! What gives you the right to call her that?! Tell me, and make it snappy!"

Silver was shaking in fear; but after a few seconds she regained her posture. "What gives YOU the right to even yell at me? You are just a simple little waif who is trying to gain power."

"Oh, come on," Chaos said as a grin came on his face, "I thought you liked it when we did that at home S. G.!"

"How dare you call me that?!" Silver said in pure rage, "You will never call me that again! Only my family may call me that!"

"Fine," Chaos said. With a flash of light, similar to the one Emerald had seen, he was now a back colt with a green mane.

"Artifact?" Silver said, "Ancient Artifact, is that really you? I had no idea you could do that!"

"Now see here cuz," Chaos said as he turned back to his original form, "Don't ever call emerald a mistake again! Understood?"

"Yes sir," Silver said reluctantly, "But why are you even here? I thought you would still be in Canterlot."

"Nah," Chaos said as he put a hoof around Silver's shoulder, "I asked mom if I could come here to school with my friends and she said yes! Isn't it great? I get to spend some time with my favorite cousin!"

"I'm your only cousin," Silver said, "Class will be starting soon, got to go!" And with that, Silver ran toward the school to get to her class.

"What," Emerald said as she stared at where Silver just was, "just happened?"

"Oh, I just had a talk with my cousin," Chaos said as he walked toward Emerald, "That's all!"

"But," Emerald stammered, "How did you- what did she- HOW DID YOU DO THAT?!"

Chaos just chuckled. "It's a little thing called, family tradition. In our family, the kids are taught that if they are told to something by a cousin or sibling older than they are, they are to do it, and do it fast."

"Wow," Emerald said as she thought about this, "So, what cousin is older than you?"

Chaos laughed. "Nopony, I'm the oldest cousin and then there is Silver. So far, we are the only ones."

"Wow," Emerald said, "Sounds like you two like each other a lot."

"Like is not the word to describe our bond," Chaos said, "I would say love; for some reason, we just connect. Whenever we are together at a family gathering, we are inseparable. I think it's like you and that Feline filly you keep talking about. You both love each other; but it's not the kind of best friend love, it's the family love that keeps you together. Without the family love, what point would there be to love at all? Best friend love doesn't always last forever; you may think that you will be friends forever, but your friendship just fades away. That is one problem with best friend love; you never fully expect that you will ever part ways, but it really does happen.

"But," Emerald asked as she looked at him, "What if we are best friends that are fully prepared to move on? Like, we know that someday, we might not be best friends and maybe even forget the other exists."

"That is just love," Chaos said as he put is talon on her shoulder, "Not best friend love or family love, that's just normal love."

"How do you know all of this anyways?" Emerald asked with a curious look on her face.

"You are asking the nephew of the princess of love," Chaos said with a bored expression on his face, "I get a lecture about love almost every time I see her!"

Emerald giggled. "That sound like fun. Who wouldn't want that?" Emerald joked, "Just kidding, but still, it sounds really neat!"

"Yep," Chaos said, "I guess it's neat."

"Well, we had better get to our class," Emerald said as she walked alongside Chaos," Let's get going or we will be late."

As Emerald and Chaos walked toward the schoolhouse, they had no idea that they were being watched... by a dragon.

Fun Times

When school was let out that day, everypony was so excited about the play that night; they had spent all day practicing. Emerald, Chaos, and Silver were drawing so much attention; no one had seen Silver so… nice. They all walked home together and Silver was even telling jokes; that was unusual. They talked, joked, and laughed all the way home. They had all gotten permission to go over to Emerald’s house to do their homework and then practice their parts. Since Diamond Cutter was sick, Chaos was to take the place of Shang. Emerald was Marelon and Silver was Marelon’s mom. They got to Emeralds house, had a few cookies, and crashed the CMC meeting in the living room. After they were shooed to Emeralds room, they all got out their homework and struggled to do it. In other words, Chaos explained it to the girls.

“And so you take side A. squared plus Side B. squared and you will get the hypotenuse squared,” Chaos explained, “Does that help?”

“A little,” Emerald said before she jokingly held up her hoof, “But, how do we know what side will be the hypotenuse?”

“It’s simple!” Chaos said with a little joy in his voice, “The hypotenuse is always the longest side of the triangle!”

“Oh!” Silver exclaimed, “I get it now!” Silver started to work her last three questions but Emerald still had a little trouble.

“I don’t get it,” She said as she stared at her paper.

Chaos sighed, “Think of it this way, A. squared plus B. squared equals C. squared.”

“Oh!” Emerald exclaimed in the same way Silver did, “Now I get it!” Emerald went to work on her last five problems and was done the same time as Silver. Now, finally, they got to practice their parts for the play.

“So,” Emerald said, “How do we practice the songs?”

“I can make music with my magic!” Chaos exclaimed, “But I don’t know if it will be accurate.”

“Well, we can make it work,” Emerald said as she scrolled through her pages, “Well, let’s start from the beginning.” They managed to get through it two times when Sweetie called them downstairs to eat. They had seven-layer salad, hay-burgers, and sweet tea. After they ate, they went up and practiced the songs. Emerald had trouble at first, but she finally managed to get it right. When it was time for the play, everything went smoothly and everyone knew their lines. After, there was a party for the completion on the play. Everypony was having fun. There were apple bobbing games, pin the tail on the donkey, and LOADS of food.

“Now what?” Emerald asked for they had just eaten. There was a rule there, since there were so many ponies, that once you play a game you can’t play it again. “We are full of food, we played all the games, and now Chaos is hyperventilating.”`

“Need… need” Chaos stammered, “Need something to- to- to do! This is so boring; I’ve eaten poptarts more interesting than this!”

“I hear you,” Silver said as she blew hew hair out of her face, “A gummy bear is more fun; can we just go home?”

“That’s it!” Emerald exclaimed as she ran toward where the parents were. When she came back, the smile on her face was so big, Silver and Chaos knew that her idea had worked. “I can’t believe that actually worked! But guess what!” She said without letting them talk, “Mom said that if we were careful and Chaos put his magic force-field thingy around us on the way we can go to the old CMC clubhouse! Mom also said that we could even stay there in the summer!”

“Really?!” Chaos exclaimed, “Awesome! Come on Silver, let’s go!”

“I’m right behind you!” Silver exclaimed as she jumped up, “Let’s get going!”

“Hold it right there young mare!” A voice said from behind Silver, “Where do you think you’re going?”

“Daddy,” Silver said with a pouty face, “We were about to go to the old CMC clubhouse. Emeralds mom said that we could go now if Chaos here put a force-field around us!”

“I don’t know this Chaos,” Silvers dad said skeptically, “How do I know he can be trusted?”

“Aw,” Chaos said disappointed, “Not this again. For real Uncle Spike, how do you NOT know me?” Chaos took the moment to turn to his colt form, and then back.

“Oh,” Spike said surprised, “Um, ok then. If you kids will excuse me, I need to go pummel my sister for not telling me about you like that Chaos.”

“Do we have to go now?” Silver asked after spike left, “When dad gets mad, it’s the best fireworks I’ve ever seen!”

“Fireworks,” Emerald asked with a sly tone, “Sure, let’s stay and watch.” No sooner had Emerald said that, Twilight ran as fast as she could past them; half screaming, half laughing. The kids turned their heads just in time to see spike fly past with a grin on his face. The kids followed out the door as they watched Twilight fly into the air. No sooner was she five feet in the air Spike was out the door and headed for her. It took only five more seconds for him to catch her.

“Noo!” Twilight screamed, “MERCY! I BEG OF YOU, MERCY!”

“Oh,” Spike said disappointed, “Alright… NOT!”

“What?! NO! GET AWAY, GET AWAY I TELL YOU!”

Spike laughed an evil laugh, “Never.” Spike grabbed Twilight and pinned her on the ground. Chaos nearly jumped in to help his mom but Silver held him back. Spike then, unexpectedly, started to give Twilight raspberries on her chest which made her scream in laughter.

“No-“ Twilight gasped, “No- Stop- stop- PLEASE!”

“Fine,” Spike said with a grin, “I’ll stop… With the raspberries”

“What?!”

Spike then started to tickle Twilight with his wings witch made here scream in laughter even more. Chaos couldn’t help it, he had to help! He leaped toward his mom, managing to get past silver. Emerald, for some reason, knew what he was doing and joined him running toward Twilight. Silver ran to stop them but was surprised when she saw that they were helping spike Tickle Twilight. She shrugged it off and went to help them. When Twilight finally called Uncle, they all stopped and laughed with the crying Twilight. Surly, Emerald loved being with these guys; She was even more happy that she had somepony to act as an old sibling. Emerald knew that when she was with her friends, she was going to be happy.

Schoolwork

Emerald and Chaos were sitting in the living room of Emerald’s house; they were working on schoolwork. Ever since Emerald met Chaos, she had been excelling in all of her classes; he just managed to make things easier. Today Emerald was working on the first homework assignment of eleventh grade. Chaos, who was in twelfth grade, was helping.

“Are you sure that’s what happened?” Emerald asked.

“I’m positive!” Chaos said, “Princess Celestia accidentally threw a banana peel at the king of Saddle Arabia and he thought it was on purpose! I’m telling you, that’s what started the war!”

“That’s utter nonsense!” Emerald said for she didn’t believe him one bit, “There is no way that the king of Saddle Arabia would do that! They are trained to be sophisticated, poised, and in control of their emotions; it has been a tradition for hundreds of years!”

“Oh yea,” Chaos said as he wrote down some answers to some of his problems, “How do you know that?”

“Well,” Emerald said in a bored tone, “When your Aunt gives you the entire collection of, “The Entirety of the Laws and Facts about Saddle Arabia in Ten volumes” You are expected to read it all.”

“Ouch,” Chaos winced, “That sounds like so much fun.”

“You got that right!” Emerald said as she put her papers in her finished folder, “It was no fun reading that instead of my science book.”

“Yea,” Chaos agreed, “But just think, you will be graduating next year; you get to study whatever you want!”

“Not next year,” Emerald contradicted, “This year. I don’t care if I don’t have to take school through the summer.”

“What-chya-doin?” Red Raven said as she came through the door. Raven was Emeralds seven year old sister. She was a white Pegasus with a red mane and blue eyes.

“Not much,” Emerald said as she grabbed her coffee before Raven could get to it, “You did your homework?”

“Yep,” Raven said as she sat down, “If you have a minute, can you draw me a dress I can color in?”

“Let me see your paper,” Emerald said as she was handed paper and a pen, “Now, imagine that this is a white dress, what colors would you put for accents for a blue pony.”

“Wow,” Raven said, “I thought you would give me something hard!” Raven took the picture to her room to work on it later. “Do you think that you could help me fly again?”

“Let me guess,” Emerald said, “Mom is working at the opera and dad is on weather patrol?”

“Yep,” Raven said with a grin, “You’re good!”

“Alright,” Emerald said as she took some papers out of a folder, “I’ll help as soon as Chaos here finishes his homework.”

“I don’t get it!” He exclaimed, “How do you do this?!”

“What,” Emerald asked, “Number ten?”

“Yes!” Chaos exclaimed, “I don’t get it!”

“I thought you were supposed to do this,” Emerald said as she took the paper, worked the problem, and got the correct answer.

“How-, “Chaos stuttered, “How did- how did- how did you do that?!”

“Like this!” Emerald showed him, three times.

“Oh,” Chaos said, “I see. I feel stupid now. Hey! That’s how you can get done this year! I can do my homework here or you can do your homework at my place and then you can get both grades done at once!”

“Hey,” Emerald said considering the idea, “That might work! I will have to ask mom though, you know, to get her approval.”

“He’s fine with it!” Raven interrupted, “Can you help me now?”

“Raven!” Emerald scolded, “Fine, fine. Here, take this book and go study.”

“Study?!” Raven said disgustedly, “I would rather go eat sand.”

“Then why don’t you do that?” Emerald asked getting a stern look from Raven.

“I get the hint,” Raven said as she headed out of the room, “I’ll go work on the picture now.”

Emerald and Chaos decided to work on the next few lessons; it’s not like they had anything else to do. They managed to get three days ahead when it was time for Chaos to go home for dinner. When he left Emerald decided to work on diner. They were having mashed potatoes, hay-steak, and green beans. As Emerald was frying the hay-steak and Raven was setting the table Rumble came into the house.

“Daddy!” Raven exclaimed as she ran to hug her father, dropping the silver-wear in the process.

“Hey Raven!” Rumble said as he picked her up, “How was my favorite seven year old filly?”

“Awesome now that your home,” Raven said as Rumble put her back down, “Can you help me fly after dinner?”

“Of course I will!” Rumble said to Raven, “But we need to get dinner ready first.”

Rumble told Emerald to work on the potatoes and green beans while he did the hay-steak. Raven put the glasses on the table and filled them with water. When Rumble and Emerald put the food on the table, Sweetie made it home.

“My, my!” Sweetie exclaimed when she saw the food ready, “Why do you guys need me? It looks like you can handle it here.”

“Aw mommy,” Raven exclaimed as she went to hug her mom, “We do need you around here; How am I supposed to do my math when Chaos and Emerald are concocting plans to get Emerald out of school a year early?!”

“Emerald?” Sweetie asked, “Is this true?”

“Well,” Emerald hesitated, “We did figure that if we do our schoolwork and homework together I am learning both at the same time.”

“Well,” Sweetie said as she put Raven down, “I don’t see why you can’t do it together. As far as I know it works for you.”

“You mean it?” Emerald gasped, “We can do our schoolwork together every day?”

“I don’t see why not,” Sweetie said as they all sat down, “As long as Twilight and Discord agree, you may. But remember, you have to promise not to get sidetrack.”

“Oh,” Emerald exclaimed, “We will mom! We managed to get ahead three days.”

“Alright,” Sweetie said as she started serving up food, “If you manage to do two a day, you can be done by Christmas!”

Emerald was excited, she was going to be doing school with her best friend. She knew that this would be an awesome thing.

Wait... what?

“Gangway!” Emerald screamed as she ran through the halls of Pony Ville High, “Pardon me, excuse me!”

Emerald was on her way to the testing room; today was the day of her big exam and she did not want to be late. She woke up half an hour late and was pushing it now. She was almost to her room when she ran into Diamond Cutter.

“Dude,” He said as he rubbed his head, “Did anypony get the number of the train that hit me?”

“Oh,” Emerald exclaimed, “D. C. I am so sorry; I was in a hurry to get the testing room.”

“Why,” He asked as Emerald helped him up and picked up his books, “We don’t have a test today do we?!”

“No,” Emerald said as she handed the books to him, “I do. See you!”

Emerald ran on toward the testing room and got there just as the bell rang. She got to her seat, she got to choose whatever seat because she was the only one taking a test, and was handed the exam. She had been studying for this since the beginning of the year with Chaos. Speaking of Chaos, why did he just come in through the door?

“Chaos,” Emerald asked as he took the seat next to her, “What are you doing here?”

“I worked ahead,” Chaos said as the teacher handed him an exam as well, “Why do you think I’ve been studying as well?”

“SHH!” the teacher shushed before turning on the stop watch.

Emerald and Chaos began to work on the exam; they both were working hard. One hour went by, two hours, three! Emerald took a few precious seconds to see how many pages were left; only one, perfect. She dared not look at how Chaos was doing for the teacher might think she was cheating and make her start over. She worked carefully to do her last math problems; she knew how to do them all. When she was working on the very last problem, the stopwatch dinged saying that the exam was over.

“Alright,” The teacher said in a matter of fact voice, “Finish the problem you are working on and then you may go help a teacher in a lower grade.”

Emerald took her time with her problem; she did it once but the answer didn’t look right. She erased it and started again; this time it looked right. She gathered her papers and handed them to the teacher; Chaos was right behind her with his papers. The teacher took them and then looked at some separate pages.

“Chaos,” She said, “I would like you to go to Pony Ville Elementary and help the fifth graders. Emerald, I want you to help your sister.”

“Yes ma’am,” They both said in unison.

They both headed out, getting some glares from some the other kids on break, ready to go help. Emerald knew why they were glaring, but she didn’t care; she was free. They both walked to the elementary school and talked about how they thought they did on the exam. They got to the school and went their separate ways, Emerald made a beeline for her sisters class room; she made sure she had the note from the teacher. She walked into the room after they finished singing “Here Comes Peter Cottontail” and hoofed the note to the teacher. After the teacher told her what to do to help Raven she grabbed some paper and a pencil and told Raven to join her at bigger table; to sit at a big table was considered an honor. Emerald helped with the arithmetic until it was time for lunch. She joined Chaos on a walk back to PV High for lunch and to see how the exam scores were coming.

“This snow is so annoying” Emerald said in an annoyed tone, “I wish it would just end.”

“Oh come on Emmy,” Chaos teased, “without the snow, how would Santa Hooves get here?”

“With teleportation,” Emerald said going along with the joke, “But seriously, aren’t you sick of all this snow?”

“Yea,” Chaos said as he picked up some snow, “But I have a nice room waiting for me when we get out of school.”

“Yep,” Emerald said as they reached the stairs of PV High, “Oh, are you going to be at my place on Saturday?”

“Wouldn’t miss you nineteenth birthday for anything.” Chaos said as he threw the snow he picked up at her. “Only if you will give me that late birthday present you said you would give me.”

“I’m still working on that!” Emerald exclaimed, “Trust me, I will have it done by Christmas. Now, let’s go see how the exams went.”

“You know,” Chaos started, “I didn’t manage to get the last page done. I had five left so my grade will go down for that.”

They headed into the Testing room and saw the teacher on the last page of one of the exams. They waited quietly while she finished grading; when she was done and the paper was put away they pounced like cats asking all sorts of questions like a foal in a candy shop. When the teacher finally got them to calm down she got the exams back out and said the grades aloud.

“Counter Chaos,” She started, “Since you are in the higher grade I will say your grade first. You, my friend, got a…” She left a little space of time in there, “B+!” She exclaimed.

“A b.” Chaos nearly gasped, “I got a B!”

“Congrats Chaos,” Emerald said as she hugged him, “I’m proud of you.”

The teacher coughed and they both straightened up and looked toward the front.

“Emerald Isle,” She started out, “Unfortunately, you did not get the same grade as Chaos; and you did not get the grade you wanted.”

“What,” Emerald asked, her face and mood falling. She had really wanted at least an A- through a b-.

“Emerald Isle,” The teacher continued, “You have gotten…” another time pause, “An A+!”

“An A+” Emerald exclaimed, “I am in eleventh grade doing a twelfth grade exam and I got an A+?!”

“Yes,” The teacher said, “Congratulations Emerald, You get to graduate the first weekend after new-years; you too Chaos.”

The two screamed and bounced around the room; they were NOT excited at all. (Lol) The teacher left the room with the papers to tell the principal.

“Emerald,” Chaos said excitedly, “We did it!”

“I can’t believe we did it,” She exclaimed, “This is the second best day of my life!”

“It is my best,” Chaos said as he hugged Emerald, “And you know what would make it better for me?”

“What-“ Emerald started to say but was stopped by a hoof on her mouth. Emerald looked at him curiously but that look turned to surprise when he did something unexpected.

He kissed her.

"Chaos," Emerald said in surprise, "What... what was that for?"

"Well," Chaos started, "It's just... throughout the year and with all the studying... I've fallen in love with my best friend. You know what, I'm sorry; I'll just go."

"Um, Chaos," Emerald said while rubbing her hoof on her leg, "Wait. Don't go; I mean can you- I mean- Ugh." Emerald just grabbed him and kissed him again. It, of course, surprised him but he fell into it. They kissed until they needed to come up for air; when they did, somepony coughed.

"Excuse me," Rumble said in the doorway, "But is this a bad time?"

"Oh," Emerald said awkwardly, "Uh, hi dad!"

Rumble just stared at them; this made it feel more awkward for Emerald.

"Counter Chaos," Rumble said as he stared at him, "Can I speak with you alone?"

"Dad please don't let this turn out like it did with grampa when you came back!" Emerald exclaimed.

"Don't worry honey," Rumble said to her, "I won't. Now can you go pick your sister up from school so I can talk to this stallion?"

"Um," Emerald said as she started to go, "Ok, bye Chaos; I guess I'll see you later?"

"If I'm not dead later," Chaos mumbled.

Emerald left to go pick her sister up; Rumble closed the door behind her. When he was sure she had left he walked over to him and asked a simple question.

"Do you love my daughter?"

"What?"

"Do you love my daughter; it's a simple question."

Chaos was surprised, he had expected to get yelled at.

"Sir," He started out, "I do, and I would do anything for her."

Ruble put a hoof on his shoulder, "Smart lad." He chuckled, "You know what my father-in-law did when I came back? This was after he chewed me out and then asked me how much I loved her."

"I have no idea," Chaos said as he grabbed his books to put in his saddle bag.

"He told me," Rumble said as he helped Chaos, "To go buy a ring and propose."

Chaos choked, coughed, and laughed. "That must be one special stallion."

"Well," Rumble started, "When he is the father of the most beautiful mare in the word, what do you expect?"

"I don't know," Chaos said. A thought crossed his mind and he almost didn't even mention it until Rumble asked, "What's on your mind?"

"Oh," Chaos said as he put his saddle bag on, "It's nothing really; I mean we just got out of high school and we aren't even graduated yet but-"

"You may," Rumble said cutting him off.

"What?" Chaos said in disbelief.

"You may," Rumble said again, "You love her, I can see that. But you have one rule to do it; wait until graduation."

"Consider it done."

"RUN AWAY!"

Raven was running from Chaos who was holding water baloons filled with soap, a cream pie, and a pillow in his magic. Emerald was right behind him with a bucket of water and a back brush scrubber.

"YOU WON'T TAKE ME ALIVE!"

Emerald rolled her eyes as she took a short cut past the table and cutting in front of Chaos.

"THERE IS NO WAY THAT YOU CAN MAKE ME DO THIS!"

Emerald rolled her eyes once more and decided to stop the fun and just picked Raven up with her magic.

"NO!" she exclaimed kicking this way and that, "Put me down!"

"I wan't you to look nice for my grauation!" Emerald exclaimed as she put Raven into the pail of water, "And i don't want any buts."

Raven sat in the water with her arms crossed; she hated baths. When she was finally was nice and clean they dried her fur and started to do her mane; she hated that more than the bath. After a half an hour of doing a simple bun Emerald went to do her own mane while Chaos when home to get ready as well. Emerald struggled to do her hair but finally decided on a messy bun. When she was finished she grabbed Raven and ran to the school. She got there just in time to put on her gown and get to the stage; The school was having a pep rally/graduation. When the graduation was over Emerald, her family, and Chaos' family went to the tree castle.

"Wow," Emerald said as Chaos showed her some new additions to the castle, "You guys manage to build and ad fast!"

"When you have the Lord of Chaos for a dad," Chaos said as they reached the door to his room, "These things don't take long."

"So I see," Emerald said as they went into Chaos' room. Well, they would have if their younger siblings hadn't ran down the hall by his room.

"NO!" Raven yelled, "YOU GET THAT EXPLODING POPTART AWAY FROM ME!"

"Never!" Strawberry Poptart said as she threw another one at Raven.

Emerald and Chaos shared a laugh at the sight and went into Chaos' room. Emerald decided to tackle Chaos onto his bed, surprising him, and kissed him on the nose. They ran around the room like little foals until they laughed so hard their sides hurt. When they finally stopped laughing Chaos did something unexpected. He got down on one hoof, made a small box teleport in front of him, and said four words that all fillies and mares dream about. Well, five including her name but you get the point. He looked into her eyes and said the four five special words...

"Emerald, will you marry me?
