> Rainbow Dash's Parents > by Stardom Freedom > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > The Meet > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ring!!!!!!!!! Rainbow Blaze's alarm clock rang. It was 6:30 a.m. The colt woke up lazily. He wasn't looking forward to having to go to school. He went to Parking Lane High School, and everypony always teased him. So what if he wasn't as rich and popular as them? That still gave them no right to do the things they did to him. He slowly flew to his kitchen and ate a banana. "Aren't you going to eat more than that, Rainbow?" his father, Sky High, asked. "Nah," Rainbow replied. Sky shrugged and went back to eating his eggs. "I always wonder why he only eats a banana for breakfast," Sky's wife, Sunny Blaze, whispered to her husband. "Indeed," Sky agreed. After eating, Rainbow went to his room to comb his mane and tail. They may accept me if I have at least a decent appearance. he thought. It was 6:50. Rainbow spent the rest of his time daydreaming about his crush. Soon, at 6:55, he flew to school. His gut kept telling him to turn around and go back to his house, but he ignored the pleads and kept flying, ready to face the teasing colts and fillies. Shimmer Shine woke up in her luxurious bedroom with her golden mane and tail perfect, her blue coat shining, and her green eyes as beautiful as an emerald. "Another glorious day!" She flew around in a graceful circle before heading to greet her parents, Golden Belle and Bronze Medal. "Hello, Mother! Father!" the respectful filly beamed. "Hi, Shimmer!" Golden greeted her daughter. Bronze said the same thing. Shimmer got a plate of pancakes, eggs, and bacon and sighed happily. "Another great day at school to come!" "Well, then, you might want to get going. The colts are waiting on you. I bet they have roses and chocolates and everything that would seduce a mare like you." Bronze teased. Shimmer blushed. She did hang out with boys, but they were only her friends. She was still looking for the perfect colt for her. "Ha. You're right. I should leave; I don't want to be late." Shimmer said good-bye to her parents and - after doing her classic graceful circle while flying - left her cloud home. Rainbow Blaze couldn’t stand the taunting. It was horrible for him; all the ponies laughing at him and teasing him, just for being a little bit poor and way unpopular. He was glad when the bell rang, because it was time for lunch. Nopony ever messed with him at lunch. Rainbow sat alone, at the end of the table in the far corner of the lunchroom, where nopony would ever find him. The most popular girl in school, Shimmer Shine, was at her lunch table, laughing and talking with her friends. Rainbow had a crush on Shimmer, but he knew Shimmer didn’t share those feelings for him. “Oh!” Shimmer yelped at her table. She had spilled her water all over herself. She got up to go to the bathroom, two of her friends by her side, Lily Flowers and Snowy Rose. On the way, Shimmer saw the most handsome face she ever saw. He had a rainbow mane, a purple coat, and light yellow eyes. She went over to him. It was Rainbow Blaze. “Hi! I’m Shimmer Shine! And you are?” Shimmer introduced herself. Lily and Snowy ran over to her immediately, as if their mane were fire. “Shimmer! What are you doing with the least popular pony at this high school?” Snowy questioned in a valley girl accent. “I know, right! And you’re soaking wet!” Lily exclaimed in the same accent as Snowy. “Well, maybe I don’t mind being wet. And I’m going to hang out with him.” Shimmer insisted. Lily and Snowy scoffed as they walked away. “What a dork,” Lily said, purposely loud enough for Shimmer to hear. But the Pegasus mare didn't care. They must be jealous. Shimmer thought. “Well, uh, wanna come to the Wonderbolts performance tonight with me? I got two tickets.” Rainbow offered in a shy voice. The Wonderbolts were an elite flying squad for only the best flyers in Equestria. “I’d love to!” Shimmer smiled. They made plans to meet up that night. Rainbow couldn’t believe it. He was going on a date with the mare of his dreams! Shimmer was thinking the same thing. > The Date > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow was getting ready for his date. "Gotta look slick for Shimmer," he encouraged himself. He coiffed his mane back. The stallion went to his father. "Does this look good?" he inquired. "Better. I think she'll be happy to see that." Sky High smiled warmly. "Dad, what am I supposed to do on a date to seeing the Wonderbolts?" "Well, first you ask her if she would want any refreshments. If so, you be a gentlecolt and buy them for her. Next, you make sure she's comfortable with you around. If not, offer to leave. While watching the game, while cheering, don't scream in her ear. And especially make sure that she likes you as a date." As Sky went on, Rainbow wrote down everything he said in a notepad. "Thanks, Dad. I think I'm ready. I'll tell you about it when I get back." Rainbow flew off to pick up Shimmer Shine. “And the Wonderbolts just finished a triple flip!” the announcer yelled through his megaphone. Shimmer and Rainbow cheered. They were both huge fans of the Wonderbolts. At the end of the show, Rainbow asked Shimmer a question. “Shimmer, will you be my very special somepony?" Shimmer gasped. "Yes!" > The Proposal and Wedding > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- *A few years later* It was on their date to the Ponytalian when Rainbow asked an important question to Shimmer: "Will you marry me?" Shimmer started crying tears of joy and accepted. It took a lot of planning. The two didn't have very many friends and they had no siblings and they needed groomstallions and bridesmaids. Since it was hard for them to find ponies, the two decided to break tradition and have no groomstallions or bridesmaids. Shimmer was busy searching for a wedding dress, until she finally found one. It had a sweetheart neckline and had lace made into a pattern on the back. There was sparkle everywhere on the gown. Their cake had white icing and had heart designs on the side in pink icing and a figurine of two ponies - a mare and stallion - dancing together on top. They decided to have the ceremony on a large cloud, since only Pegasi attended. Bronze Medal gave Shimmer away, and shed away lots of tears. The reverend started the ceremony. "Fillies and gentlecolts, we're here today to witness the union of Rainbow Blaze and Shimmer Shine. The strength of their commitment is clear; the power of their love, undeniable. Do you, Rainbow Blaze, take Shimmer Shine, to be your lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?” the reverend questioned. “I do,” Rainbow said. The reverend asked the same to Shimmer, who said the same answer. The two put their rings around their hoof. "I now announce you husband and wife. Mr. Blaze, you may kiss your bride." They kissed and were officially husband and wife. Their family clapped joyously. After the reception, the two climbed into a chariot and they took to the skies. > Their Child: Rainbow Dash > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shimmer couldn't wait to tell Rainbow the great news. She flew around the house to try to find him. She found her husband outside flying around. "Blaze! You won't believe what happened!" Shimmer exclaimed. "What, honey?" Rainbow inquired. Shimmer took a deep breath in before saying, "We're going to be parents," Rainbow blinked. "Run that by me again," "We're having a baby!" Rainbow's lips curled into a broad smile. "Oh, that's wonderful news!" "I knew you'd enjoy the news!" "What gender will it be?" "Most likely a girl that's due in a few months," "Great! Now we can start preparing!" Rainbow zipped off. Oh, boy. Our child sure will have a pampered life with Blaze doing all of this. “Wah! Wah! Wah!” a baby wailed. It was Rainbow and Shimmer’s child. A year after their wedding, Shimmer gave birth to a healthy filly. The young Pegasus foal adapted her father’s mane and tail and her mother’s blue coat. Her eyes were a light red. Shimmer sniffled. “She’s perfect,” “What will we name her?” Rainbow asked. “Rainbow Dash,” Shimmer answered. “After me?” Rainbow Blaze questioned, clearly flattered. “Yes, after you,” Shimmer smiled. “Ma!” Rainbow Dash cooed, hugging Shimmer. Shimmer nestled her head on her daughter. Dash turned to Blaze, and reached her hooves out to him. Blaze picked up his child and nuzzled her. That’s when Shimmer snapped back to reality. She couldn’t keep a child. She wasn’t ready. She had to tell Rainbow Blaze, and leave him and her daughter. > Farewell > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "How am I going to tell him?" Shimmer asked her parents. Shimmer had gone to her parents' house to talk to them about the issue. "Don't tell him at all! You need to stay with Blaze and Dash! Mostly Dash, because she's only a few months old! And without the mother, the whole family falls apart! Trust me, I know because I'm a mother!" Golden Belle argued. "Golden, calm down. Maybe Shimmer is right. After all, she's only 27." Bronze Medal calmly said. "Oh, you! Not even encouraging our daughter to do the right thing! You'll thank me later!" Golden stormed out the house. "Maybe Mom is right. I should stay." Shimmer thought aloud. "Shimmer, this is your choice. If you really feel that you need to leave, then do it! This is what you should say..." Bronze began. “Rainbow, I need to talk to you.” Shimmer said to her husband. “Okay, honey,” Rainbow Blaze said, trotting over to his wife. Shimmer took a deep breath. “I need to leave!” “What?” “I have to leave,” “But why?” “I can’t raise Rainbow Dash. I-I’m not ready. I don’t know why, but I can’t. I already packed my bags. I’m going to send her postcards. You have to do it alone now, Rainbow. Raise her. Raise her good and well. Raise her as proudly as I would if I weren’t leaving. Please.” Tears ran down Shimmer's face. Rainbow Blaze started crying too. “Shimmer, I love you,” he uttered. Shimmer ran to him and they hugged for a long time. When they broke apart, they tried hard to wipe their tears, but they kept pouring down. Shimmer walked into Rainbow Dash’s nursery. She was sleeping. “I’m leaving, my dear. You won’t see me again. I’m not leaving because I don’t love you, because I do. I’m parting because I don’t know how to raise you, and I don’t want to be a terrible mother. When your father tells you I fled, do not forgive me. I’m doing something no child would ever forgive their parent for. But Rainbow Dash, no matter what I do or what you do, always know that I love you.” Shimmer whispered. She kissed her daughter’s forehead and left. > As the Years Pass By > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Daddy, why don’t I have a mommy? Everypony else in Flight School does.” 5-year-old Rainbow Dash asked her father. “Dashie, your mom, left us,” Rainbow Blaze said. Dash was shocked. “Left? But why? Doesn’t she love us?” “Of course. She left because she loved you. But I’m still upset with her decision. That’s why you get postcards from her.” Rainbow Blaze explained. “Oh. Okay. I want her back. I never knew Mommy’s name. And I never knew her.” Dash's eyes filled with tears. “Her name was Shimmer Shine. And you do know her, Rainbow. She’s in your heart. Do you want me to tell you our story?” Blaze replied. Dash nodded. "Okay. She and I went to high school together. I didn't exactly fit in. Your mother, however, was accepted by the others." Dash's eyes widened. "But you're the best daddy in the whole wide world!" "Back then I wasn't. Anyway, one day she saw me, and went to talk to me. That night, we went to go see the Wonderbolts perform." "The Wonderbolts! They're my favorite! I'm gonna be one someday, and it makes it better that you saw them!" Blaze chuckled as he continued. "I then asked if she wanted to be my marefriend, and she said yes. A few years later, we got married and had you! But then... she left..." Blaze ended with a small frown. Dash put her hoof on her father's shoulder. "At least we got to spend time with her. But I didn't get to meet her." Dash's expression matched Blaze's. Blaze then realized what he just did and straightened up. "She's in your heart, RD," Dash brightened up. She was happy with this news, and she enjoyed Shimmer’s postcards from Baltimare. But they stopped coming when Rainbow Dash four years later, and Blaze and Dash never knew why. > Shimmer's Death > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Shimmer ran for her life. Three mares in Baltimare, Bright Lights, Surprise Confetti, and Starry Colors, were serial killers that targeted random citizens in Baltimare. When they discovered that Shimmer moved there, they were ecstatic that they would get to make another victim suffer. Bright, Surprise, and Starry were chasing her with pitchforks and knives. Shimmer ran into an alley, panting. She gasped in horror as she saw that the alley was blocked, and also realized that she couldn't fly up. Bright, Surprise, and Starry went into the same alley she went in and surrounded her, smiling and cackling evilly. “Please don’t kill me! I have a husband and a daughter back in Cloudsdale!” Shimmer begged. “Cloudsdale? Ha! Get real, girl. We're in Baltimare. Cloudsdale is so far away! But we should be nice enough to think about it. Hmm. Nope!” Surprise shouted. “Good one, Surprise,” Bright complimented. “Enough chit-chat, girls. It’s time to do what we came here to do.” Starry said, using her Unicorn magic to hold up a pitchfork. Since Surprise was an Earth Pony and Bright was a Pegasus, they used their hooves to hold up knives and pitchforks. Shimmer gasped and then fainted. Starry, Bright, and Surprise started stabbing the beautiful mare. > Wondering > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a week after Shimmer had been murdered. Shimmer usually sent Rainbow Dash one postcard per week, but Dash received nothing. That night, she confronted her father about it. “Dad, what happened to Mom’s postcards?” 9-year-old Dash asked Blaze. “I don’t know, honey. She just said she was leaving and was going to send postcards; not that she would stop!” Rainbow Blaze exclaimed. Rainbow Dash began to cry. “What if she doesn’t love us anymore? What if she thinks that now that she's in Baltimare and we're in Ponyville, that she shouldn't send anymore cards? What if she remarried and has a new daughter or son? What if..." Dash gulped, "...she died?” Blaze answered his daughter's questions in order. “Rainbow, she still loves us! You're mother would never think that! She would never have another foal with somepony else! And she’s about 38 and I’m 39. She couldn’t have died that young. What made you think that stuff?!” Rainbow Blaze scolded her. Dash burst into more tears. "I'm sorry. It's just that it seems like that happened to Mom." Blaze went to his daughter and hugged her. "It's going to be all right. Mom is safe. We both know that. It may not seem like it, but we do." he whispered. But he wasn’t sure. That was all a lie so he could comfort Dash. Actually, he didn't even know if it was a lie. He didn't know.
