"Luna?" Solar Shine, the Queen of the Sun, a beautiful mare with a flowing red and gold mane and tail, called, looking for her daughters. "Celestia?"

"Coming mother!" Celestia called as she flew, quite literally flew, down the stairs with her saddlebag.
"Me as well, mother!" Luna yelled down, gathering the last of her items as she ran down.

"Good, good. Now, we must set off alarmingly fast darlings. So, let's go."

The three royal ponies set off out of their castle, and onto a small chariot piloted by four guards. They were to be transported to a safer place that night.

"Your Majesty, are you ready?" A guard asked.

Solar Shine nodded, and so did her daughters. The guards ran the chariot quickly, then took off. The chariot soared high into the sky, and swooped down again. The soldiers with the Princesses and Queen flew for a while, until....

"WATCH OUT!!" A guard cried, as cannonball and monsters flew at them, hitting the chariot with force. The chariot swirled, and it swerved.

"LUNA! CELESTIA! FLY!!" Cried the Queen, taking off into the air. Her children followed suit, and they all flew off the chariot, their guards not being as lucky. The creatures rammed right into them, and the chariot fell tumbling to the ground. Queen Solar flew down to the chariot, followed by Celestia and Luna. What they saw wasn't pretty... the guards were lying on the now blood-stained grass, with their heads being sliced off directly. The Queen landed next to her captain, Feather Speed, and her breaths came fast and sharp. She turned to her daughters, who were looking horrified.

"My daughters......now you know what we are facing. Do you under stand, now, how much it's important you are safe?"
Luna nodded and whimpered at the bodies in the ground. Celestia nodded too.

"Good..." the Queen said, and lowered down to inspect the guards. Celestia took Luna aside.

"Hey, Luna, wanna cause some healing magic?!" Celestia whispered to her younger sister.

"Oh...i dunno Tia.." said Luna uncertainly. "Mother needs patience...and silence.."

"Oh come on, Luna!" whined Celestia.

"Tia...i....ugh, okay, fine.." Luna finally gave in. Celestia smiled and barely took one step when around her ankle wrapped a long, green, thick, vine. Celestia screamed, and Solar Shine turned around in alarm. Luna rushed to help her sister, but vines wrapped around her ankles and hooves. They wrapped around Celestia and Luna's horns, and they couldn't use their magic at all. They nearly stopped their breathing by wrapping around the Princesses throats, but stopped. Queen Solar Shine's eyes widened, and she backed away. A voice came out of the darkness.

"Oh my, in a bind, are we?" said the voice, with a soft growl to it.

Queen Solar Shine's eyes narowed, and her horn glowed with magic aura. "Who is there?" she called out. "I demand you show yourself!"

The voice chuckled. "Now my dearie, why.." Suddenly the Queen heard a rustling, and vines had wrapped around her throat gently. "Would I do that?"

Solar Shine didn't dare move. She had to save her daughters, and she had to get them safe. Suddenly, a bright light shone from above. Solar Shine looked at it, and saw her husband, King Lightning Star, the King of the moon, a handsome stallion with the night sky for a flowing mane and tail. The Queen gasped in joy, and the voice growled in anger. There was a loud snap, and the vines coiled around Solar Shine's mouth.

"RELEASE MY FAMILY, OR SUFFER DEARLY." Lightning Star said, in the Royal Voice.

The voice hissed. "How about...." there was a snap, and the vines dangled the screaming Celestia and Luna in the air. "...no..?"

Lightning Star roared with anger, and began to shoot the vines with spells so strong, they would reduce oak trees to dust. The vines seemed to hiss, and the voice growled with anger. Most vines coiled away, and the vines holding Celestia and Luna gave up and dropped them. The vines curled around the Queen, however, were far from giving up. They coiled harder around her throat and chest, until she almost couldn't breath. They had coiled around her horn, too, so she couldn't use magic. She gagged a little, and looked at her husband who was killing the vines. His eyes widened and he stopped, jumping to the sky before the plants could reach him. He paused for a minute, eyeing his daughters, who were flapping in the sky, horrified, then his wife, who was struggling against the plants. He frowned and thought for a moment.
"D-daddy! What are you doing?! Save mommy!!" Luna cried, staring at her father.
Lightning stared at his daughter, smiled sadly, and nodded. He dove for his wife, cutting the vines on the way. One of the vines, that was blasted off of the Queen's neck, coiled around the King's ankle. He was pushed backward, but he managed to get his wife free. "RUN!" He shouted, and Solar Shine obeyed. Solar only hesitated once she was well out of the plants reach, her daughters flying behind her.
"Lightning!" Solar shouted, staring with wide eyes. Her husband shook her head, and was obscured by the plants.
"Until next time, my fair Queen...." the voice said, a light joy to his voice. The plants retreated, and there, lying on the now-scarlet grass, was the remains of King Lightning Star. His head, like the guards's, was chipped off completely, blood pouring from his open neck, but most horrifying of all, his hooves were completely gone. He now only had studs for legs, and blood was pouring from them. Solar Shine gasped silently, then collapsed to her husband's side. Celestia and Luna gave horrified gasps of despair, which turned to wails as they too, collapsed next to their father. The family cried there together for a moment, then, the tear stained Solar stood up. Her daughters kept cringing next to each other, each one comforting the other.
"Celestia...Luna." Solar said. Her daughters stood up.
"Y-yes....Mo-mother?" Celestia asked.
Solar Shine wrapped them both in an embrace. "I know what you feel...but we must go."
"N-no! I re-refuse to g-go without fa-father!" Luna said, tears starting to flow again.
"Luna....Please. it will come back." Solar Shine insisted.
"Luna....c-come on.." Celestia said to her younger sister.
"A-alright..." Luna finally gave in.
The family set off for something that none of them could face, not alone....

Hush now, quiet now, it's time to lay your sleepy head,
Hush now, quiet now it's time to go to bed....

Oh My...

The Royal Family set off, the three members still mourning for their lost fourth. They ended up in a cave, where the Queen made beds for everypony. She sang her children a lullabie before bed. One that her ancestors had sung to her.

"the sun has set, the moon will rise. The skies will darken, but not our eyes. We have a whole world, ahead, before us. Please sleep gently, my sweet children."

After a few verses from the Queen, Princess Celestia and Luna fell asleep. The Queen smiled.
"Goodnight, my angels."
The Queen stepped out of the cave, and did her best to set the sun and raise the moon. Then she sat down, and wept. She could never fight this evil alone, and she could never raise her little angels under the presence of a monster. But... no, she had to fight it. For her husband. For her family. The Queen stood up and wiped her tears away. She felt a hoof wrap around her hind leg, and looked down to see Celestia hugging her.

"It's okay, mommy. We're here for you." Celestia said, smiling.
Queen Solar smiled at her child. "Go to sleep, my sweet one. Ill see you in the morning."

Celestia nodded, and went back to the tiny cave. The Queen sighed, and started walking back. Suddenly, she felt a vine wrap around her neck. She tensed.

"Returgio et queest guv set, quete?" Said the same voice as before.

The Queen narrowed her eyes. "Habeo et numquam obliviscaris tuo. tibi peribit et gentes puniri.."

The voice laughed. "Not today. Your Majesty, we should speak somewhere else.."

And they were gone.

Celestia and Luna walked out of the cave, their eyes wide.

"Mom?" Celestia called, shivering from the cold.

"Tia, where's"s mommy..?" Luna asked, her eyes big.

"I dunno, sis.." said Celestia. "She's.. gone.."

Hey.
