> The Great and Powerful Failure > by Sarizon > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1 - That Old Familiar Light Blue Fur... > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a bright and sunny morning in Ponyville. The birds were chirping in the distance, and ponies were trotting to their respective work places. In the newly erect Friendship Rainbow Kingdom Castle, the mane 6 were having a discussion in the Chamber on the plans for the day. "Okay girls, what should be the first order of business for the Kingdom?" Twilight asked. Pinkie, with excitement, yelled,"WE SHOULD THROW A PARTY! After all, we should celebrate after defeating Tirek, and so should everypony in Ponyville!" A Chuckling, Twilight said, "A party sounds fine, but shouldn't we get some kind of work done before we throw one?" Rainbow Dash moaned at the thought of work, and said,"Aww man, work is so boring. Can't we just sit back and relax in our new 'thrones'?" Twilight just rolled her eyes at what Ranbow Dash proposed. However, Rarity had something to say. "You know, Twilight, it would be nice to have a celebration and relax after the hard fought battle we had with that dreadful Tirek. We all deserve a day off." A Skeptical Twilight replied,"I-I don't know..." "Aw shucks Twilight, you deserve the break. One day won't do any harm," said Applejack. Twilight thought about it for a minute. She then said,"Well, it would be nice to relax and have a good time....Alright, as first order of the Kingdom, we shall have a party and anypony in Ponyville is welcomed." Pinkie couldn't keep her excitement in."YAY!"Pinkie shouted. "I'll go grab some party sup-" Before Pinkie could finish her sentence, A knock on the Kingdom's door was heard. All of the ponies were curious. Who would be knocking at this time of day? The mane 6 began walking toward the door to see who or what was on the other side. When Twilight opened the kingdom door, what followed was a look of shock from all of the mane 6. On the other side of the door was a familiar light blue pony staring down at the ground, but her mane was messy and her fur was dirty. It was as if she hadn't taken a bath in weeks. As the pony looked up to the mane 6, Twilight knew it was her. "Tr-Trixie?" she asked. Trixie nodded her head and said, "H-Hi Twilight." Twilight was obviously concerned."W-What happe-" Before Twilight could finish her sentence, however, Rainbow Dash said," What's she doing here?" Rarity agrred and said,"Yes, Why is 'The great and powerful Trixie' back in Ponyville? Come to showoff even more, or enslave us like last time?" Twilight did not approve of the ponies' reaction. "G-girls now calm do-," Twilight was, once again, interrupted. "Yeah! She didn't even give me my mouth back last time she left. It was miserable," said Pinkie. Twilight was getting frustrated, then Applejack said," Not only that, but you embarrassed everypony here. You have some nerve showin' up here again!" Twilight had enough of their backlash at the obviously worn down pony. "Girls!" Shouted Twilight as all the mares turned and stared at her. Trixie was first to say something after Twilight shut the other ponies up. "I-I'm sorry for barging in like this," she said, "but I heard that a new Kingdom was created in Ponyville and that you were all rulers of it. I just wanted to see it myself. It is very beautiful." Shrugging off what Trixie just said, Rainbow Dash replied, "Yeah so what? You come to gloat how you're somehow better than us?" Trixie shook her head, and replied,"N-no... I came back to Ponyville to apologize... to all of you this time. The 5 ponies looked doubtful of Trixie's statement, but regardless, Trixie continued. "I only got a chance to apologize to Twilight after the whole amulet incident before I ran away, to never return here and hurt another pony again. You see, I went back around all of Equestria in hopes that with the new name, 'The Great and Apologetic Trixie,' that I could win back some of my audience. Unfortunately, like the first time, news got around how I became an evil equine and enslaved all of Ponyville, so nopony wanted anything to do with me. As you can imagine, I wasn't getting any bits from my shows, so I had to sell my carriage for anything I could get out of it. At first, I was fine. I was able to stay in a few inn's here and there, but eventually the bits ran out, and I was left to sit in the cold air and rain, hoping to find a place I could call home. I managed to find myself back here in Ponyville not too long ago, and thought I would at least come and find you all and apologize for what I did. And Rarity, I don't go by that name anymore... I'm just Trixie now." Twilight, Rarity, Pinkie, and Fluttershy all looked surprised at Trixie's story, however, Trixie's story wasn't finished. "Now that I'm here, Rainbow Dash, I'm sorry that I made you and Fluttershy hoist my banners all over Ponyville. You're the coolest pony out there, and Fluttershy, you are so caring to others . Rarity, I'm sorry for making your hair green and wearing awful dresses. You are easily the most fashionable pony in all of Equestria. Pinkie, I'm sorry I took your mouth away. You are always so cheerful and bright, something I certainly was not. Applejack, I'm sorry about forcing you to stomp apples for me. They were the most delicious apples I had ever tasted... Twilight, I know I already apologized to you, but I'm sorry again for being jealous and trying to prove I was better than you, when I know I'm not. I just wish I could have the things that make you all so great, then maybe I wouldn't feel like I had to make myself better than any of you. I can only hope that you all can forgive me for what I did, and if you don't, I understand." Twilight, Rarity, Pinkie and Fluttershy, felt saddened and concerned for the poor pony, but Rainbow Dash and Applejack weren't so keen on feeling bad for. Applejack put her hoof down, and said,"Why should we believe you Trixie? You've been nothing but bad to us." Rainbow Dash was quick to agree. "Yeah! why does this time make it any different than the last two times you were here?" Trixie didn't respond to them. Instead, she used her magic to lift her dirty cape and wizard hat off of her body and plopped them on the ground in front of the mane 6, which made them confused. "I don't expect you to believe me," said Trixie,"Which is why after today, I'm never showing my face here in Ponyville again, or anywhere for that matter...I'm just the great and powerful failure now." Obviously concerned for Trixie now, Twilight asked,"Will you be okay?" Trixie gave a slight nod. "I'll be fine," she said,"But as it seems, magic is not what I'm meant to do. I guess I'll have to find something else I'm good at...." "But, where will you go? Where will you stay?" asked Twilight. Trixie replied,"I'm not sure, but somewhere far from here, where nopony will have to see me again. I'm sorry if I interrupted anything you were all doing...Have a good day..." And with that last sentence, Trixie turned around and began to walk down the Castle stairs with her head down, leaving her ragged wizard hat and cape still laying in front of the mane 6. > Chapter 2 - Really? Just Like That? > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As Trixie slowly began to walk away, she stopped in her tracks after hearing somepony behind her shout,"WAIT!" Trixie knew that voice, but she couldn't believe that it would ask her to wait. To make sure she wasn't just hearing things, Trixie turned back around to where the voice was coming from. What Trixie wasn't expecting was a bright pink pony heading towards her at full speed. Trixie backed up expecting some form of a tackle by Pinkie. Pinkie, instead, instantly grabbed Trixie around her neck and began to hug her. Needless to say, Trixie was very confused. While still hugging Trixie, Pinkie said, "You can't leave! Not after the horrible time you've gone through." Trixie couldn't believe what she was hearing. "B-But, I don't understand. After all the horrible things I did to you..." Pinkie shook her head, and replied,"You said you were sorry! I can always forgive someone who is truly sorry for what they did, and by what you just said, I don't see any fibbing from you!" Trixie couldn't believe that Pinkie could forgive her just like that. As bizarre as this was, Trixie noticed Fluttershy flying toward her. Fluttershy landed in front of Trixie and said, "Even though it was pretty rude of you to enslave us like you did, at least you're sorry about it. I'll forgive you too. I know what it's like to try and fit in. It's not easy, well, at least for me it's not." Before Trixie could respond, Rarity walked up to her and told her, "While I'm still traumatized from having Green hair, it wasn't hard to change it back to my fabulous mane. I'll forgive you as well." Trixie was astonished to hear these three ponies forgive her so soon. Trixie could of sworn she felt her mouth crack a smile. Something Trixie hasn't done in a long time. Twilight began to smile at the four ponies, however, she noticed Applejack and Rainbow Dash still seemed to look at Trixie as untrustworthy and weren't going to give in to her that easy. Twilight simply ignored them and decided to walk down to Trixie. Twilight stopped and looked Trixie right in the eye. "Trixie, although you have made some mistakes in the past, that doesn't mean you can't make up for it," said Twilight. Trixie looked up to Twilight as she put a hoof on Trixie's right shoulder. "If you don't feel like magic is your thing, then we can at least help you find out what you are good at." Trixie's slight smiled disappeared after Twilight said that. "B-But that's just the thing,"Trixie said,"I don't know what I would be good at. All I've ever done is magic." Twilight was about to respond, but a hyperactive Pinkie shouted from behind Trixie first, causing Trixie to jump. "You can come try making some treats with me! I'm making some cupcakes for our super-duper awesome, Kingdom Celebration party tonight!" Trixie wasn't sure, but couldn't get a response out as Rarity jumped in. "And if creating treats doesn't work for you, you can stop by my shop and try making dresses with me. It might seem hard, but I find making dresses to be quite a fun task." Fluttershy even suggested Trixie to try what she does. "I-I could use some help with some of the animals later today," she said,"I find helping animals is always fun and it keeps me going. You are more than welcomed to come by after you spend time with Rarity... That is... If you want to, Trixie." Trixie felt it was nice that they wanted her to spend time with them, yet, Trixie was still not sure about it. "Well...," She pondered. Twilight noticed this, and came up with a great idea. "How about this Trixie. You can spend the day with all six of us and see if what we do on a regular basis is something you can be good at," Twilight suggested. The three ponies surrounding Trixie nodded in agreement, however, Rainbow Dash and Applejack were... Not so happy at the idea. "What?!?" The two frustrated ponies shouted. Twilight turned to two mares at the top of the staircase and locked eye with them. Twilight said, with some force behind it,"All of us!" The two mares, though annoyed at the idea, didn't bother arguing with Twilight, and simply nodded. When that little dispute was settled, Twilight turned back to Trixie. She looked Trixie over again, seeing the obvious mud stains in Trixie's fur, and how scraggly Trixie mane was. "Then it's settled, but for now, let's get you cleaned up. Please Trixie, come into the castle," said Twilight. Trixie nodded with a smile and the five ponies began to walk up the castle's stairs. As Trixie walked by Rainbow Dash and Applejack, She noticed that both mares were giving her a disatisfied stare, but Trixie just kept looking forward, to not make eye contact with either pony. Once the five ponies walked past the pair of annoyed pones, Applejack began to whisper to Rainbow Dash. "I don't trust her Rainbow dash. Not after the last few times. Somethin' in my gut just says that she's up to no good" Rainbow Dash nodded, and said, "I agree. You know what? wherever she goes, I'm going to follow her, just to make sure nothing's up." Applejack liked the idea. "Sounds like a plan," she said with a smirk. The two ponies then followed the other five into the council chamber. Trixie first thought when seeing the inside of the castle was how amazing the architecture of the castle was with it crystallized walls. "This is such a magnificent castle Twilight," complimented Trixie. "Thank you Trixie. Of course, we would've never gotten this castle had it not been the power of our friendship with one another." The other 5 ponies smiled back at Twilight after she said that. "Anyway, the bathroom is through the left doors over there," said Twilight as she pointed. Trixie nodded in appreciation. "T-Thank you Twilight," she said. Trixie began walking towards the doors. As she was walking, she noticed a familiar purple dragon sleeping in his throne with what looked like a comic book laying over his face. Trixie couldn't help but think how cute that was. When the doors shut behind Trixie, Twilight turned around only to be face to face with both Rainbow Dash and Applejack. "Twilight, have you gone nuts?" asked Applejack. Rainbow Dash followed with, "Yeah. How can you let her in here? Who knows what she's doing behind those doors." Twilight gave a big sigh and said, "Look, it's obvious that she's been through a hard time since the last time she was in Ponyville. Just give her some time to prove she has changed." Applejack and Rainbow Dash just gave Twilight a doubtful stare. Twilight, now frustrated with the two ponies, just said, "Fine, when she get's together with you two, then 'you two' can determine if she's untrustworthy or not." Applejack simply rolled her eyes and said, "Whatever, Twilight. I've got some apples to buck, I'll be back later tonight for the party." "I-I'll be back later, too. I've got to practice my flying," said Rainbow Dash. Twilight rolled her eyes and replied "Alright, but just make sure you're both back before tonight starts." The two ponies nodded and walked out of the castle. When the Two towering doors shut behind them, Applejack and Rainbow Dash went over the plan again. "Alright Applejack, I'll keep an eye out on Trixie, and I'll report to you if I find her doing anything suspicious," said Rainbow Dash. "Sounds good to me," replied Applejack. After a wave, the two ponies went their separate ways. Not taking any chances, Rainbow Dash flew up to the bathroom window to see if Trixie was up to anything yet. The window was fogged up from the hot water steaming up the room, but she could see a dark figure standing in front of the sink. Assuming it was Trixie, she focused on the figure more, and noticed that the dark figure was holding what seemed to be a locket of some kind. Although it wasn't a weapon, that didn't stop Rainbow Dash from being suspicious of this pony as she flew away. About thirty minutes went by, and Twilight was beginning to wonder if Trixie was alright. Twilight told the other ponies that she would be right back and made her way towards the bathroom. As Twilight got near the door, she could've sworn she heard some form of crying coming from the bathroom. Twilight knocked on the door and asked,"Hey Trixie. It's Twilight. Are you okay in there?" Twilight heard something drop on the ground along with some shuffling. Trixie eventually replied, "U-Um yes I'm fine. I'm just...fixing my mane up right now." With Twilight being concerned, she asked, "Is it alright if I come in?" It was faint, but Twilight heard a small, "sure," from within the bathroom. Twilight opened the bathroom, and saw a fresh, clean Trixie staring at herself in the mirror. "We're all waiting for you, Trixie," said Twilight. Trixie continued to look at herself in the mirror, but said,"I'm sorry. I guess it's just been so long since my last bath, that I forgot how it feels to look nice." Trying to comfort Trixie, twilight said, "Well, you certainly look far better than what you were earlier," replied Twilight. Trixie gave out a soft "heh", and thanked twilight for the compliment. "Are you sure you're okay?" asked Twilight, "I hear something drop." Trixie simply nodded, and Twilight didn't push the issue further, but she knew something wasn't right. The two ponies walked back to the council chamber and as soon as the doors opened, a bright pink pony was on the other side staring Trixie right in the face. "So, Trixie? Are you ready to go!?!" asked Pinkie. Trixie gave a weak smile, and said,"Yes, I'm ready to go." "YAY!" shouted Pinkie, "Then let's go!" Pinkie grabbed Trixie by the hoof and dragged her out of the castle towards Pinkie's home. Rarity waved goodbye to the two ponies, and told Trixie, "When you are finished with Pinkie, come see me, darling!" "Same with me, Trixie," said Fluttershy. Trixie nodded and wave as best as she could, as she was being pulled with her other front hoof by the bright pink pony in front of her. Twilight waved back. When the giant doors where shut, and the two ponies were gone, Twilight sighed, and said to herself,"I just hope she finds what she's good at." > Chapter 3 - Party Foul > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As Pinkie and Trixie were making their way through Ponyville, Trixie would notice every now and again that a few ponies would stare at her, and they would either seemed afraid or angry at the light blue pony. Not that she could blame them. It wasn't that long ago that she tried to enslave them all. Trixie tried to ignore them as best as she could and continued to follow Pinkie's lead. After a few minutes, Pinkie and Trixie arrived at Pinkie's home. From the first step in, Trixie was overtaken by the sweet aroma of delicious treats that Pinkie has created overtime. "Pinkie, this place is fantastic," said Trixie. "Why thank you!" replied the prideful Pinkie. "So what do you want to make for the party, Trixie? We can make anything you want!" Trixie gave a look of confusion. What treats she wanted to make? It wasn't even her party. "M-Me? I-I'm not sure... I've never made treats before." Pinkie eyes grew wide from being so shocked by what she heard. She's never met a pony who hasn't made anything sweet before. "WHAT!?!?" Shouted Pinkie, "You've never made treats before!?! Everypony should make treats atleast once!" Pinkie noticed that Trixie began to look down after what Pinkie just said. Pinkie didn't want to make the poor pony more saddened than she already was. Pinkie decided to shrug off the thought. It wasn't really that big of a deal anyways. "It's okay Trixie. I'll tell you what, let's makes some of my favorites for the party: cupcakes and rock candy!" When Trixie heard Pinkie say rock, all it reminded her of was the time she worked on a rock farm. She still has nightmares from that place. Pinkie, wondering why Trixie didn't respond to her, began waving her hoof in front of Trixie's face to grab her attention. "Um..Hello? You okay?" Questioned Pinkie. Trixie snapped out of day dreaming and gained focused once again. "S-Sorry Pinkie, I remembered a, not so fun, memory... Sure, let's make some cupcakes and rock candy," said Trixie. Pinkie could only clap her hooves and smile. Trixie was quick to add, "I hope you understand if I mess it up." Pinkie shook her head and said, "Nonsense! There's no way you can mess up a cupcake. Speaking of which, let's start with those." Trixie gave a small smile and nodded. Pinkie walked Trixie over to the kitchen table and showed her the ingredients. Pinkie then began to show Trixie, step by step, the process on how to make a tray of cupcakes. Trixie was very intrigued by how much went into making such a delicious treat. The more Pinkie went into steps, the more Trixie became interested. Once the ingredients were fully mixed, Pinkie poor the batter into each tray hole, then shoved the tray into the oven. Pinkie grabbed another tray and slapped it onto the table. "Now you try, Trixie!" said Pinkie. Although Trixie was excited to get started, she was still skeptical that something would go horribly wrong. "But, what if I-" Before she could finish her sentence, Pinkie replied"Don't think about messing up. Just make some to your best ability. While you're doing that, I've got a call to make for the party later tonight. I know you can do it!" Trixie nodded, and Pinkie began to walk towards the phone. Trixie took a deep breath and began mixing the ingredients. As Trixie was following the instructions, she could hear Pinkie dialing a number. after a few seconds, the other line picked and Pinkie began to talk." "Hey Vinyl. It's Pinkie! I have a party that you just HAVE to DJ at..." Not wanting to be too nosy, Trixie went back to mixing the ingredients and tried to follow every step correctly. Trixie, to her surprise, was actually having fun. However, when she got to a certain step, she stopped. Trixie needed some flour, but it was across the room from her. Not wanting to interrupt Pinkie's conversation, she decided to use her magic to float the bag of flour to the table. Trixie struggled, as her magic wasn't as strong as other ponies. She managed to get the bag of flour over the table, but then something caught her eye. Trixie noticed that a bee made its way into the kitchen from the window. Trixie has never been fond of insects that fly, especially bees. Trixie instantly backed up, and shut off her magic from her horn, not realizing that the flour she was carrying was right over the table. As expected, the flour contained in the bag fell all over the table, and even worse. The flour was everywhere, and even worse, the ingredients pages were scattered. Trixie panicked and didn't know what to do, as she couldn't remember how much she needed for each ingredient. Trixie tried her best to remember what the sheets said. Trixie thought to herself, "Um..Um, let's see... Was it 2 cups of flour or 4? Was it 4 or two eggs? Oh no..." Trixie wanted Pinkie's help, but Pinkie was still on her important phone call, and Trixie didn't want to be rude, so she just guessed and mixed ingredients as close to what she thought was the right amount. The cooking timer rang, and Trixie quickly took the finished cupcakes out and then slid her tray into the oven. Needless to say, she was worried what might happen. After a few more minutes, Pinkie got off the phone and walked over to Trixie, who was staring at the oven, expecting the worst. "So! Were you able to get the recipe right?" asked Pinkie. Trixie replied, "U-Um, yes I believe I did." "...You... Think you did?" Asked Pinkie. "Well... I may have just mixed the batter to my best ability. You see..." Trixie then pointed to the now covered kitchen table. Pinkie focused on the floury mess. She wasn't mad, but was confused as to how it happened. "Oh you should've just grabbed my attention, Trixie. I would've put the other line on hold. It's okay though, as long as you managed to get the recipe right, it should be fine!" "Um...." "What is it Trixie?" asked Pinkie. "...That." Trixie pointed at the oven, which was now oozing a battery mix through the creases of the door. "Um, Trixie..." "Yes, Pinkie? "Did you put in six cups of flour?" "... Cups?" Pinkie's eye grew wide. "How much did you put in Trixie?" "...Uh... Six pounds." "What?!?" Shouted Pinkie, "Why would you put in si-" Before Pinkie could finish, the oven door popped open, and soon the kitchen's floor was completely filled with an mixed mess. Pinkie looked over the mess that she would now have to clean up. Trixie felt awful and said, "I'm so sorry Pinkie! I-I can clean it up for you!" Pinkie sighed and said, "It's okay. I should be able to clean this up soon enough and get back to work on making the rock candy and cupcakes." Trixie replied,"O-Okay. Do you want me to try the rock candy instead?" Pinkie looked at the mess again, and said,"Uhhh, I think I'm fine. Thanks though." Trixie began to feel horrible and looked down in shame. Pinkie noticed this and began to feel bad for Trixie. "Don't worry Trixie, I'm not mad at you. I'm sure Rarity has something you're good at for sure!" "Trixie, still looking down, replied,"I guess so." Pinkie tried to lift her spirits. "Don't worry! You're definitely a pretty pony, so you'll fit right in with Rarity!" Trixie looked up and smiled. "Thanks Pinkie," said Trixie. Pinkie gave Trixie one last hug, and Trixie was off to Rarity dress shop. Pinkie looked at the mess, and thought she might as well taste the batter. She took a spoon full and put it in her mouth. Pinkie dropped the spoon, and her eyes grew wide. She had never tasted cupcake mix this delicious before. Right there and then, she knew what she would be using for the rest of the cupcakes. She certainly had enough mix for the cupcakes, thanks to Trixie. Peeking through the window Rainbow Dash saw all that occurred and tried her best not to laugh at Trixie's mess up. Rainbow Dash knew she just had to tell Applejack, and after Trixie left, she began to fly to Sweet Apple Acres. > Chapter 4 - More Than Meets The Eye... > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow dash made it to Sweet Apple Acre's and saw that Applejack was bucking some apples, as always. "Hey Applejack!" Yelled Rainbow Dash. Applejack, hearing her name being called out caught her off guard, causing her to buck too hard, making a set of apples fall onto her in a pile. Rainbow Dash completely ignored the mound of apples covering Applejack and began to talk to her. "Applejack, it was so funny! Trixie tried to make cupcakes, and ended up flooding the kitchen with cupcake mix! My gut was killing me!" Applejack popped her head out of the top of the mound and responded. "Well, that's fine and all, but did Trixie do anything suspicious?" Rainbow Dash replied, "Yea-.....Well... Not really." Applejack shook her head and said, "Well then what are you doin' here? She could be doin' somethin' suspicious right now, and you're flappin' your wings telling me she messed up some cupcakes?" Rainbow Dash got annoyed by Applejack's tone "Hey, I just thought you might get a good laugh out of it. Don't need to be so bossy!" "Are we here to laugh, or are we here to catch that no good pony red hooved?" asked Applejack. Rainbow Dash sighed and shook her head. "Fine, whatever. I'll find her on her way to Rarity's. She couldn't gone that far yet." With that last sentence, Rainbow Dash flew back to Ponyville, not before she heard Applejack say one last thing to her. "Don't come back unless you know for sure that she is doing sumthin' suspicious!" yelled Applejack. Rainbow Dash continued to fly. Rainbow Dash made it back to Ponyville, looking for the blue furred pony on her way to Rarity's. She didn't have luck at first, until she caught a glimpse of Trixie in the corner of her eye, standing in front of a young filly next to a tree. Rainbow Dash noticed the Filly was crying. Thinking that Trixie did something mean to the poor Filly, Rainbow Dash began to fly towards Trixie. "Ha! I got you Trixie!" Rainbow Dash thought to herself. As she was flying, she noticed Trixie using her magic on something in the tree. Rainbow Dash wasn't sure, but she felt Trixie was about to break one of the branches off to do, Celestia knows, what to the little Filly. this only made Rainbow Dash fly faster. Just as she was about to tackle Trixie to the ground, Rainbow Dash noticed that the thing Trixie was grabbing from the tree, was a kite. Rainbow Dash instantly hit the breaks and stopped as fast as she could before hitting Trixie. Rainbow Dash, after opening her eyes from the thought of slamming into Trixie, she was eye to eye with Trixie. The filly was staring at Rainbow Dash as well. "Rainbow Dash? Is that you?" asked Trixie? Rainbow Dash quickly replied,"U-Uh, yeah! hehe...it's me!" Trixie replied,"Okay...Is something... The matter?" "Huh? Oh no, just flying by.....hehe. Coincidence right?" Trixie looked at RD oddly. "Uh, yeah I guess," said a confused Trixie. Trixie turned back to the Filly "Here you go little Filly, try not to fly it so close to the trees next time, okay? Infact..." Trixie applied a spell that she learned over her time learning tricks onto the kite. The trick would make any object act like a magnet, and push away from other objects. Applying this trick onto the kite would make sure it would never get stuck on anything again. After Trixie told the little filly what the trick did, the little filly said, "Thank you so much, Great and Powerful Trixie! I knew you weren't as bad as my mom said you were!" Trixie gave a slight smile and said "Well thank you, but I'm no longer The Grea-" Before Trixie could finish her sentence, the little Filly hugged her left hoof as tight as she could, which made Trixie feel happy that she could help. Trixie then hugged back and said, "...You're Welcome." Trixie waved goodbye to the Filly, and the Filly began flying her kite again, now that it was stuck-resistant.Trixie was all smiles before she realized that she had to continue to Rarity's dress shop. Trixie turned to Rainbow Dash and said, "I-I'm sorry Rainbow Dash, but if I don't hurry, I'll be late to Rarity's. It was nice seeing you!" Before Rainbow Dash could say anything, Trixie took off, and RD was there to ponder. Rainbow Dash took in what she just saw. It certainly was a very nice thing for Trixie to do. Rainbow Dash thought to herself,"Hmm, maybe Trixie has changed...," but then Rainbow Dash reminded herself that this was Trixie. Known to be a trickster. She shook her head and said to herself, "No way, I can't take any chances. I got to keep following her." Rainbow Dash began flying towards Rarity's to see what Trixie would do there. > Chapter 5 - The Generous Seamstress > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trixie ran as fast as she could. Taking a glimpse at the town clock, it was almost noon, and Trixie just hoped she wouldn't miss Rarity because of lunch time. Luckily, Trixie made it to Rarity's. She read the sign on the door, "The Carousel Boutique." "A bit of an odd name for a fashion store," thought Trixie. Regardless, she opened the door, and entered. Trixie looked around the store. It was filled with very vibrant colors everywhere with an obvious carnival theme, hence the name of the store. Trixie noticed the rack of dresses to her left. She was fascinated with how the dresses looked. Their different designs, along with the accessories and color choices, Trixie could only imagine ever owning a dress like these, much less designing one. Rarity heard the door bell ring, and was soon out from behind a curtain where she worked. Rarity asked, "Hello? Who is it?...Ah yes, Trixie! Welcome to my home and workplace." Trixie nodded and said, "Hello, Rarity. Your home is quite fascinating, and my, what an exquisite amount of dresses you have created." "Why thank you, darling. They are magnificent aren't they?" said a proud Rarity. "They are indeed. So, I guess I'm here to try and make one myself?" asked Trixie. Rarity replied, "Well of course you are. Here, follow me to the back. Trixie nodded, and followed Rarity to the back of the store. When she entered behind the curtain, Trixie noticed all the different fabrics, and accessories Rarity had laying around, just ready to be used to create a wonderful dress for any special event. Like the Grand Galloping Gala. Trixie did always want to go to it... Maybe she can if she can successfully make a dress. Then again, she couldn't afford the dress afterwards even if she wanted to. Rarity slid a stool next to the one in front of her Sewing Machine. Rarity brought over a box full of different thread colors, and told Trixie to have a seat next to her. "Okay Trixie, making a dress for the first time can be quite stressful. It does take a lot of time and patience to make a dress, well, that is if you want it to be the finest quality. I of course have mastered the technique, but even I will still get frustrated when it comes to making these dresses the best they can be." "I can only imagine," replied Trixie. "Well imagine nor more, darling, because you're about to make one! Now, I wasn't sure what to choose for your dress, so I decided to pick colors that matched the colors of your wizard hat and cape. I hope you are fine with that." Trixie remembered that she left her hat and cape on the castle steps, and didn't see any sign of them when she walked into the castle. Curious, she asked Rarity about it. "Speaking of my hat and cape... Did you happen to see if anyone too-" Before she finished her sentence, Rarity presented a present to Trixie. Trixie was shocked at the sight of the present. "F-For me?" She asked. Rarity nodded and said, "Of course, Trixie. Take this as a token of my appreciation for you coming and apologizing to me. I am a generous pony after all." Trixie thanked Rarity and wanted to open it, but the gift wrap and ribbon were so beautiful, she couldn't bring herself to do it. "Rarity, it's so lovely, but do you think I could open it later? The wrapping paper and ribbon are so beautiful. I wouldn't want to tear it up right away," said Trixie. Rarity chuckled and replied,"Of course you can, Trixie. It's almost noon, so you can open it when we leave for lunch." "Lunch?" asked Trixie, "Oh, but I don't have any bits for a meal." "Atata, say no more. I have a lunch already made for you," said Rarity as she presented Trixie with a lunch basket. Trixie felt so flattered, and cared for. It's something she hadn't felt in a long time. "Thank you, Rarity," Trixie said with a big smile, "It means a lot that you would do this for me, even though I just returned today." "Absolutely deary, now let's get you started on your dress." Trixie nodded as they both began working with the supplies. Curious, Rarity asked, "Have you ever made a dress before, Trixie?" Trixie replied, "Well, I've always wanted to. Unfortunately, my family wasn't the richest, so I had to make due with what I had. My mother..." Trixie took a deep breath before continuing. "...My mother made my hat and cape that I used to wear. So I always wore that and sort of pretended that it was a dress. Obviously it wasn't, and the other Fillies would make fun of me, but I never let it get to me, because I knew my mother made it because she cared for me..." Rarity noticed that Trixie looked kind of down after saying that and put her hoof on Trixie's right shoulder. "It's alright Trixie. You needn't say more. I'm sure that she did make it with love and care in every stitch." Trixie nodded and Rarity began showing her the basics of making a dress. To Trixie's surprise, making a dress didn't seem as difficult as she thought it would be. In fact, she rather seemed to be enjoying herself with Rarity. Rarity was by Trixie's side the whole time, and with every step, Trixie grew more interested in finishing the dress. An hour passed by, and Rarity looked at the clock on her wall. "Oh dear, it seems that it's already noon. Let's take a break shall we?" Suggested Rarity. Trixie, like a little Filly, responded, "Aww, but it was just getting fun, and I'm only halfway finished with the dress." Rarity laughed, and said, "Don't worry darling, we'll still have plenty of time after lunch. I'm sure you're starving after being out in the cold and rain for so long. I know you will enjoy what I have for you." Trixie responded, "Well, I am hungry.. Okay Rarity." "Splendid," said a gleeful Rarity. Rarity grabbed the Lunch basket, and began walking towards the front door, followed by Trixie. "Oh. don't forget your present, Trixie," Rarity said. Trixie couldn't believe she had forgotten the present, and quickly ran back to grab it. She could only imagine what was in the box as both ponies walked out the front door. > Chapter 6 - A Lunch in The Park > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- When both ponies were outside, Rarity flipped the sign from open to close, locked her shop up, and they were off. Trixie was spending most of the time, wondering what Rarity made for lunch, along with what was in the present. Trixie didn't even know where they would be eating. "Rarity? Where exactly are we going for lunch?" Rarity, turning her head to Trixie, replied, "Why the local park, of course. There is a hill there that overlooks all of Ponyville. It is quite grand." Having lunch in a park sounded pretty appealing to Trixie. It was a nice and sunny day, so she could see why Rarity would want to eat outside. On the way, Trixie noticed that ponies were staring at her, but strangely, they didn't seem to be as fearful or angry with her as earlier. In fact, they would just look at her and keep walking like any regular pony. Trixie felt it was rather odd that not so long ago, no one would even get near her, but now they were walking by casually. Trixie assumed that maybe the ponies in this part of Ponyville just forgot about who she was, and if they hadn't, they were pretending. When they arrived at the park, Rarity and Trixie took a minute to take in the scenery. While overlooking the Park, Trixie saw families and friends all having a fun filled day in the park. A Stallion threw a Frisbee to his little colt, while a young couple of mares were sitting on a bench, and oddly enough, one was sitting in a bizarre position on her back end. What pony does that? Regardless, Rarity raised her hoof and pointed to the back of the park, where a big hill was located. Trixie only assumed that was the hill Rarity was talking about and began to follow her. The hill was a tad bigger than Trixie expected, and took some power getting to the top of it. It was worth the extra hoof power though, as Trixie made it to the top, only to be amazed at the view. The whole town of Ponyville was visible, and Trixie could even see the Canterlot castle in the distant mountains. Needless to say, it was a fantastic view for a lunch. "Rarity! This spot is fantastic!" "No better place for a lunch, if I do say so myself," said Rarity. "You're not kidding. How did you find out about this place?" Rarity laughed and said, "Funny enough. It was that sweet little purple dragon, Spike. He's 'such' a gentleman for his age, hmm hmm. Now, would you be a dear and help me lay this blanket out.?" "Gladly," Trixie responded. Rarity brought out a picnic blanket for the basket and gave one end to Trixie to lay down evenly on the soft grass. The picnic blanket was the cliche red and white checkered board style design, nothing too fancy. Both ponies laid down onto the blanket, and Rarity began scrambling in the basket grabbing what Trixie assumed is her portion of the lunch. To Trixie's dismay, it wasn't some high quality course meal like Trixie pictured Rarity eating. Instead it just a simple sandwich that was wrapped in clear foil. Although simple, the sandwich did indeed look quite appetizing, so Trixie wasn't one to judge. Rarity also handed Trixie an apple, along with a few condiments, in case if Trixie wanted to add any to her sandwich. Trixie looked at how shiny and round the apple was, and could think of one pony that Rarity could've possibly gotten it from. Looking at that apple though, did remind Trixie of how Applejack and Rainbow Dash weren't so happy for her to be here, even after she apologized. Trixie can only hope that Applejack had cooled down some since she last saw her. With that thought done, Trixie began to dig into her sandwich. The sandwich tasted so scrumptious and appetizing, that Trixie took in every bite with pure satisfaction. "My oh my Rarity, this sandwich is delicious." "I'm glad you enjoy it, darling. I use only the finest vegetables and wheat when it comes to making my sandwiches," replied Rarity. "I assume the apple is from Applejack's farm," insinuated Trixie. Rarity laughed and said,"Wasn't it obvious? Almost all of Ponyville's apples comes from Sweet Apple Acres. Although not my taste, the farm is wonderful. I know you will enjoy yourself when you go to see Applejack." Trixie was pretty doubtful of that. "I don't know Rarity... Applejack and Rainbow Dash didn't seem to be too happy to see me. I don't think they will ever forgive me." "Oh I'm sure they have calmed down by now Trixie," said Rarity, "Usually it's Rainbow Dash that has the big head and Applejack is the one to stop her, but Applejack and Rainbow Dash seemed to be on the same page when it comes to you." "I guess it makes sense," said Trixie. "Regardless, don't let them get to you. If you know that you have changed for the better, then nopony can say otherwise." "Thanks, Rarity. That means a lot." Rarity nodded and said,"You are Welcome. Now that I think about it, turning my hair green was pretty funny." "Hmm hmm, you should've seen the look on your face." "I bet I looked like a circus show," said Rarity. Both ponies began to laugh. Even though Trixie had been around Rarity for only a short while, she felt a strong bond beginning to fill between her and Rarity. It was almost like having a sister, something that Trixie never had. "You know Rarity, you really are a very pretty pony. I could only wish to have a mane as beautiful as yours." "Well thank you deary, but as wonderful as my mane is, it's your own mane that you should be proud of. Your mane style makes you unique, and there is no need to copy what others do. You should always be yourself, because that is the real you, and nopony can change that." "Huh...I never thought of it like that before... And yet, being a magician has led me to nothing but trouble. How can I be myself when what makes me makes others miserable." "Well that's why you are spending time with all of us right? To see if there is something else you are truly good at. You certainly aren't bad at making dresses from what I saw, so maybe that could be it. I certainly wouldn't mind spending more time with you in my shop, Trixie." Trixie began to blush. "Thank you Rarity. That means a lot." "Anytime darling, now about your present." Trixie remembered the present and looked at it. She really didn't want to ruin the wrapping paper and bow. However, she had an idea. "Rarity. Do you think we could attach this bow to my dress? I think it would make a great accessory to the dress. Maybe we could even make a design like on the star light wrapping paper onto my dress," said Trixie. Rarity thought about it. "That doesn't sound like a bad idea. It would certainly make your dress unique... Alright, we shall do it. Now please, open your present! I can't wait for you to see it." Trixie took a deep breath and began to slowly take apart the presents bow and wrapping paper. Which each corner unwrapped, Trixie grew more anxious. What's in the box? She got to the actual box inside and lifted the top off. What she saw inside took her by surprise and left her speechless. What was in the box, was her Wizard hat and cape, but only clean, and retouched to look almost brand new. The purple threads bright, and the stars were just as yellow as she remembered them to be. "R-Rarity... I-I don't know what to say..." Rarity smiled and said, "No need. Try it on. I made sure every stitch was exactly how it was before it got damaged. It was especially hard to not tell you after you told me your mother made it for you. I can only hope that my work lives up to hers." Trixie smiled and put her cape on, and it fit just the same way it always has. "How is it? asked Rarity. Trixie didn't answer, and instead gave Rarity a big hug. Rarity was taken by surprise at first, but returned the hug Trixie gave. "It's...It's perfect...Thank you Rarity," said Trixie. "You're welcome. I must say, I am intrigued about your mother. What is she like?" Trixie eyes looked over the distance for a minute. She wasn't so sure how to tell Rarity about her mother. Instead, Trixie grabbed something from her pocket. It was a locket, and Trixie presented it to Rarity. "My, what a beautiful locket that is," said Rarity, "Was it your mothers? Trixie nodded, and began to open the door of the locket. "You see, my moth-" Before Trixie could finish her sentence, a familiar voice was heard coming up the hill, and both ponies turned to it. "Rarity!?! Raaaaarity?!? I saw the sign on your door saying you went to the park for lunch and thought that I would swing by and see if you were alone and maybe neede-" Spike stopped talking and stood in shock as he laid eyes on Trixie. Spike wasn't told that Trixie had returned to Ponyville, and could only think of the times that Trixie tried to take down Twilight and Rarity, and he's was not about to let that happen again, especially to Rarity. "Whoa Rarity! Stand back!" Shouted Spike. The purple dragon slid in front of Rarity, holding both of his arms up to block Rarity form Trixie. Rarity responded with,"Wh-Wha-" "No need to say anything Rarity, I'll protect you from her!" Trixie was shocked from what Spike said. "So Trixie, come back to try and hurt Rarity and Twilight again?" "N-No, I... I ca-" "Save it, Trixie. You think you're so better than us. Couldn't stay away forever huh?" Rarity tried to say, "Spike it's quite alri-" Spike didn't listen, and kept telling Trixie off. Why don't you get out of here Trixie. Haven't you cause enough trouble in Ponyville?" said Spike with pride and determination in his eyes. Trixie felt awful again and lowered her head. Even the cute little dragon that she saw sleeping didn't want her around anymore. Trixie said, "I-I'm sorry..I...I-" Spike interrupted again. "I don't want to hear it. I won't let you hurt Rarity liked you tried to last time you jerk!" "Spike!" Shouted Rarity. Trixie said nothing. She slowly took her cape off and laid it back into the present box. Rarity said, "Trixie, I'm so sor-" "It's okay Rarity. I'll just be on my to Fluttershy's. Maybe I won't hurt anyone there..." "Trixie..." "Thank you for the lunch, Rarity... I really enjoyed it," said a choked up Trixie. With that, Trixie began to run away. Rarity held her hoof out to try and grab Trixie's attention. "Trixie wait! What about your dress and gift?!?" Trixie didn't listen and just kept running away. Spike felt like a hero and saved his precious Rarity from evil once again. "Ha. I sure showed her, huh Rarity....Rarity?" When Spiked turned to Rarity, Rarity was fuming as she was staring at Spike dead in the eye. "Uh..What did I do?" asked Spike. Rarity proceeded to hit Spike on the noggin, causing him to rub his head from the now stinging sensation. "You have no idea. Do you, Spike?" said a very frustrated Rarity. "Know about what? When I woke up, no one was in the castle chamber, so I came to find you, and saw that you were with Trixie having lunch... Wait... Why were you having lunch with her anyway?" Rarity simply facehoofed and shook her head. "It's a long story, Spike. Just grab the present and follow me back to the shop. I'll tell you there." Spike just shrugged his shoulders, grabbed the present, and began to follow Rarity back into town. Rarity felt awful for how Trixie was just treated right there. It was like Rarity could feel how Trixie felt anytime she performed, only to be laughed at and mocked. It wasn't a good feeling. Rarity knew what she would do to make up Spike's rudeness. That dress does need a bow after all. Rainbow Dash was hiding in a nearby tree and witnessed the whole scene. Getting a twig out of her mane, she then proceeded to follow a fast galloping Trixie. "Man, Trixie and Rarity seemed to be getting along great there," thought Rainbow Dash, "And then, just like that, Trixie was beaten down by Spike's words. I haven't seen Rarity sad like that in awhile. Better find Trixie before she gets out of my sight." Rainbow Dash was able to catch back up to Trixie, but kept out of sight. Trixie eventually began to slow down to catch her breath. After cooling down, Trixie took a deep sigh and began to walk the rest of the way to Fluttershy's home. As Trixie was walking, Rainbow Dash noticed that Trixie grabbed what looked like the locket she saw Trixie hold in the castle bathroom earlier. She flew over Trixie to get a closer look. Trixie didn't open it, but RD saw a picture on the front casing of the locket. It was a picture of Trixie's Cutie Mark. Rainbow Dash looked confused and wondered why Trixie would have a locket with her Cutie Mark on it? Before she could keep thinking, Rainbow Dash noticed Trixie beginning to look up, and made a mad dash to hide in a nearby tree. >Trixie thought someone was watching her, but shrugged it off, thinking it was a bird or something, and proceeded to Fluttershy's home. Rainbow Dash slowly followed. Rainbow Dash started to have some second thoughts about not trusting Trixie. She didn't do anything to Pinkie besides make a mess and she seemed to be making Rarity smile. Rainbow Dash said to herself, "I'm starting to think that Trixie really isn't as bad as she used to be. But that locket... I can't know for sure until I see what the purpose of that locket is." Rainbow Dash continued to follow behind Trixie. > Chapter 7 - Discordially Invited > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- After some more walking, Trixie looked over to her left and saw a small house on a hill. There was a bridge arched across a stream, and little birdhouses were scattered all around the property. There was no doubt that this was Fluttershy's home. Trixie crossed the bridge and walked up the path to Fluttershy's door. When Trixie got up to the door, she began giving a slight knock onto it. After no pony answered, she knocked again, this time a little harder. Once again, no pony answered. Trixie raised an eyebrow and knocked on the door as hard as she could. Anypony could hear how hard that knock was, and yet, nopony answered. Trixie looked through the nearby window to make sure. The room seemed dark, and there wasn't a sight of a pony, nor any animals. It was clear nopony was home. Trixie was confused, but mostly, she was just wondering why Fluttershy couldn't have told her she would be gone. "Maybe she doesn't want to see me," Trixi thought. Trixie looked back up at the door, and to her surprise, her shadow grew larger in size on the door. The problem is, it wasn't her shadow. The shadow was tall and snake-like. Fearful of not knowing what to expect, Trixie slowly turned around to see what was casting the shadow. Trixie's eyes grew wide as what was before her, staring her point blank in the eye... was Discord. "Hello Trixie," said Discord. Trixie immediately jumped backwards, causing the back of her head to hit the door. The impact of doing so knocked Trixie out cold. "Was it something I said?" Pondered Discord. Trixie's woke up from being in a knocked out state for quite sometime. As Trixie began opening her eyes, she was surrounded by an assortment of different animals in what she presumed was the living room of Fluttershy's home. The animals were all cute, and furry, and Trixie couldn't help but adore them. Trixie then said, "What a nightmare. I could've sworn that horrifying Discord was staring right at me." "Horrifying? You really think so? Well I'm flattered." Trixie heard that oh too familiar voice and noticed, in the corner of her eye, was Discord staring back at her from a nearby chair. "Did you have a nice nap?," asked Discord. Trixie quickly jumped up in fear, causing all the animals to scatter under all sorts of nearby furniture. Trixie remembers the legends and tales of Discord, and was not about to take any chances. "P-Please Discord, have mercy on me! Please don't hurt me," pleaded Trixie. Discord was confused. "Me? Hurt you? Why would I ever do that?" Questioned Discord. Trixie looked back up and was confused by what Discord just asked. Fluttershy heard the commotion coming from the living room and flew down from upstairs to see what was going on. "Oh..my. Are you alright, Trixie? I was just upstairs to get you a rag to put on your forehead. I hope there wasn't a misunderstanding." "Wait. Are you and Discord...friends?" asked a nervous Trixie. Fluttershy began nodding. "Oh don't worry," said Fluttershy,"Discord is no longer the 'bad' Discord he once was." Discord nodded and dramatically said, "It is True. I have learned my lesson, and have given up on being the mischievous Discord I once was for good!" "Mhm. Now we are good friends, right Discord?" Discord gave a thumbs up and smiled and Fluttershy gave a smile back. Now knowing this, Trixie calmed herslef and dusted her fur off. Trixie cleared her throat and said,"Well, it's n-nice to meet you Discord." Discord shook her hoof, smiled, and said,"The pleasure is all mine, Trixie." Fluttershy was happy that Trixie and Discord have now become friends. "Oh, by the way, have any of you seen my animals?" asked Fluttershy. Trixie pointed to the bottom of the nearby furniture where dozens of little eyes were looking toward her. Fluttershy then flew to look at all the animals in fear. "It's ok little ones. Trixie was just scared by Discord. She won't hurt any of you," said Fluttershy. The animals all began to slowly crawl from under the furniture, and walked towards the two ponies and Discord. "Little ones, I'd like you to meet Trixie." The animals gathered around Trixie. They seemed to not mind Trixie, in fact, the animals were rather intrigued by Trixie. Trixie couldn't help but smile. "Well, it is certainly nice to meet all of you," said Trixie. After greeting the little animals, Trixie turned to Fluttershy to see what assistance she would need with her animals. "So, Fluttershy. What can I help with today?" Fluttershy replied, "Oh...um...hmmm... Well, I will be busy practicing with the birds singing today... Oh! The beavers could use some help with rebuilding their dam, and afterwards, you can help Discord with feeding the rabbits...That is... if you want to." Trixie put her hoof on her chin in thought, and said,"It seems simple enough. I'll certainly try my best, Fluttershy." "I know you will," said Fluttershy with a smile. Discord also said, "If you need me for anything Trixie, you know where to find me." Trixie nodded and began to follow the beavers to their broken dam. Trixie couldn't believe how nice Discord was after hearing all the horrid stories she was told about him. This made Trixie think. "If Discord was able to change, then maybe I really can change for the better," She thought to herself. Trixie followed the beavers a way down the stream, and where the stream ended into a river, was the dam. Trixie began to investigate the situation of the broken dam. It seems the stream broke straight through the middle of the dam at some point the previous night. The beavers began work right away, but one beaver pointed Trixie to a dead tree on the edge of the water. "What is it, little beaver?" asked Trixie. The beaver continued to point toward the dead tree. It took Trixie a minute to figure it out, but then it hit her like a ton of bricks. "Would you like me to grab the dead branches off of this tree?" asked Trixie. The beaver nodded, and so Trixie began using her magic to start breaking the dead trees' branches. As old and dead as the tree was, it was still pretty difficult for Trixie to snap the branches off, given the fact that she never has really used her magic for strength as much as for magic tricks. They did eventually break off though and with every branch, Trixie would snap it into multiple pieces so it would be easier for the beavers to carry. She repeated this process until there were no more branches available from the old tree. Luckily, there was enough branches from the dead tree to cover the rest of the open hole in the dam, and the beavers began the rest of the proccess of building a dam. For the rest of the time, Trixie observed how the beavers built the rest of the dam. Trixie was impressed by how quick the beavers were rebuilding the damage to their dam. The beavers began laying mud onto the branches, acting as a glue to keep the dam strong and resistant to the flow of the water. When the hole was completely plugged up, Trixie was to see that the dam was fixed, however, she noticed that the mud didn't seem like it was sticking a strongly as she once thought. The dam's wall looked like it was about to cave in again, and Trixie didn't want all of the beavers hard work to go to waste. Trixie acted fast, looking for anything to help the beavers hold up the dam. In the mud next to the water, there was an old rope that still seemed strong enough to be of good use. Trixie took no chances and used her magic to grab the old rope out of the mud and tied it around the middle branches of the dam. Trixie made sure that the rope was as tight as possible before letting go of it. Trixie hoped that it would hold up as she let released the rope. Sure enough, the dam held together, and the beavers quickly finished covering the dam and rope with additional mud for extra strength. When the beavers were finished, they gave a cheer for Trixie's quick thinking. Giving acknowledgement to the beavers new found appreciation for Trixie, she smiled and felt like she finally did some right since returning to Ponyville. The beavers wanted her to stay to celebrate, but Trixie knew that she had to head back to Fluttershy's home to assist Discord with the rabbits. "You're welcome little beavers. As much as I would like to stay, I must return to Fluttershy's home. The rabbits are sure to be hungry by now." The beavers awed in disappointment, but understood. Trixie waved goodbye to the beavers and began to head back to Fluttershy's home. Although the job was simple, the fact that she helped and made someone/something happy for her made Trixie smile with joy. Trixie made it back Fluttershy's home and knocked on the door. Like the first time she knocked, nopony answered. Trixie knew that Discord was inside, and just let herself in. Trixie didn't expect what happened to her next, as a swarm of rabbits barged out of the house, each with a carrot in their mouths. One white rabbit jumped over her head, carrying a whole brown bag of carrots, and followed the other rabbits into the nearby forest. Realizing this wasn't a good sign, Trixie entered the house to find Discord. > Chapter 8 - A Smell No Rabbit Can Resist > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- As Trixie walked in, her face grew in shock for what she saw was a hog-tied Discord, bouncing up and down in the middle of the room with tape over his mouth. Trixie was confused as to how Discord could end up like this, especially after hearing how much of a trickster Discord is along with his ability to slither out of almost any situation. Trixie began unloosing the ropes on Discord's legs and feet, and all the while, Discord was murmuring something through the tape on his mouth. Not being able to understand what Discord was trying to say, Trixie ripped off the tape on Discord's mouth. Perhaps, a little too hard as Discord grew tears in his eyes. "YEEAAOOOWWW," Cried Discord. Discord rubbed his cheeks from the stinging sensation of the tape ripped from his face. "Sorry Discord! What happened to you?" "Oh it was that pesky Angel Bunny! While I was handing out carrots to all of the rabbits, Angel Bunny came up to me wanting two, but I told him it wouldn't be fair to the other rabbits if I gave him two, and they only got one. He seemed angry and hopped into the kitchen, but I just shrugged it off. I turned around to feed some rabbits that were behind me, and next thing you know, I got hit over the head with some blunt object and fell on the ground. I gained consciousness a few minutes ago, and what I saw was Angel leading all these rabbits into a revolt, handing each a second carrot from the bag. I tried to stop them, only to realize I was tied up and couldn't move. Before I could even call for help, tape was put onto my mouth. The only thing I could do was bounce... up... an-" Discord stopped talking as he noticed that Trixie had tears in her eyes, biting her bottom lip, and trying desperately not to laugh. It didn't work though, and Trixie began an outburst of laughter. Discord just simply rolled my eyes, and even blushed a little bit. "Haha...I-I'm sorry Discord, ahehe... That's just... too funny!" Discord shook his head, smiled, and said, "Yes, I suppose it is." After calming down and wiping her tears from her eyes, Trixie looked back up at Discord. "I assume Angel Bunny was the white rabbit that jumped over me with the bag?" "You would guess right," said Discord, "Did you see where they went?" "They all rushed passed me towards the nearby bushes and trees in the forest. They could be anywhere by now." Discord sighed after hearing that. Putting a head to his head, Discord said in a dramatic tone, "It will take us all day to find every last rabbit, and I don't want to miss that party tonight... I'm a party animal... Not to mention Fluttershy. She'll be devastated." Trixie began to think about how she can lure the rabbits back. "Is there anything that Fluttershy has that could attract the rabbits back to her home?" Discord thought about it for a minute. "Well, there is one way we could attract those rabbits back here," said Discord. "What is it?" asked Trixie. "Why, carrot stew of course. That stew would create an aroma that no rabbit could ever resist." Trixie thought it was a pretty good idea, except for one thing. "It's a great idea... Only... We don't have any carrots, Discord." "...Well...There is...One more," replied Discord. "Really? Where is it?" Discord pointed to a cabinet with a giant lock on it. The cabinet was far bigger than what would regularly hold a simple carrot. Trixie was very curious as to actually how big this carrot could possibly be. "Do you know where the key is Discord?" Discord just shrugged his shoulders. "Your guess is as good as mine, Trixie. It could be anywhere." Trixie let out a sigh, then said, "Well, I guess we better get to looking then." Discord nodded and so the two began searching throughout Fluttershy's home. The two searched for what felt like an eternity. Trixie was back into the kitchen, hoping that she just missed a spot. "Nope not here... Maybe.... No... I'm not finding anywhere Discord." "Find what?" "They key, Discord!" "Oh. You mean this key?" Trixie turned to Discord, to see that Discord had the key to the lock in his hand, floating in the air. Trixie's couldn't believe it. "Did... Did you have the key the whole time!" Discord laughed and said, "Of course I did. Just because I'm good now, doesn't mean I can't still plays tricks on ponies." Trixie wanted to yell at Discord, but realized it wouldn't do any good for her. "Just... Please open the cabinet." Discord simply laughed and inserted the key into the lock. With one twist to the right, the lock was released, and the cabinet door opened. Trixie's mouth dropped. The cabinet almost didn't seem big enough for the carrot. Trixie couldn't believe that a carrot could even get this big. Fluttershy must have one of the best farming suppliers in all of Equestria. Discord grabbed the giant carrot out of the cabinet. Even for Discord, this carrot was quite heavy, as he put it on his back. Straining, Discord said to Trixie, "L-Let's make carrot stew, shall we?" Trixie was still speechless by the size of the carrot, so She simply nodded to Discord. Discord put the carrot onto the kitchen island and took a minute to breath. While recovering, Discord pointed to a book in the corner of the kitchen counter. "The recipe book is over there," said Discord. Trixie acknowledged this and went to grab the book. She dusted the book off, as it doesn't seem like it's been used in awhile. "Equestrian Living" was the title of the book, with a picture of what looked like some delicious meal that anypony would enjoy. Trixie brought the book to the kitchen island. "Should I make the carrot stew, or would you prefer to do so, Trixie?" asked Discord. "Well... I'm not so good at making things as I thought... As I found out at Pinkie's earlier. Perhaps I could read you the ingredients and give you any ingredients you might need for the stew as you cook it?" "Hmmm, that's not a bad idea... Alright, we'll work together then." Discorded gave his hand to Trixie, and Trixie placed her hoof into his. Discord shook her hoof, and they began. Trixie turned to the "Carrot Specialties" section of the book. "Here it is, Discord. Let's see.... The recipe seems fairly easy. We will just need a lot of the ingredients is all." "I don't think that will be a problem," replied Discord, "Fluttershy has plenty of vegetables and goods to make for every rabbit in that forest." "Wow. She really does care for her animals does she?" "You don't even know." The two shared a laugh and began work on the carrot stew. While Discord began cutting the giant carrot, Trixie read the instructions and would go to grab the necessary ingredients to put into the giant pot the stew would be created in. With each step Trixie told Discord, Discord would put more ingredients into the pot. Although it was quite a task, Trixie was having a fun time helping Discord. As he was mixing the ingredients, Discord told Trixie stories about how he changed for the better, thanks to Fluttershy and the other "Element Equine's", and also how he was once on the side and then betrayed by Tirek. Trixie learned a lot about Discord, and with each story, Trixie and Discord become more of friends. The carrot stew was almost complete, and the aroma of the stew began to fill the whole house. "Okay Trixie, open the window, and set the aroma free into the wild," said Discord. Trixie cooperated and opened the kitchen window, and with a little help of Discord fanning, the aroma flew towards the forest . The rabbits were huddled around Angel, as he was giving some sort of a speech, but was instantly halted by a smell in the air. His big fluffy ears sank down as he and every rabbit there knew what that smell could be. Trixie and Discord began pouring carrot stew into each little bowl for the rabbits when suddenly, they began to feel a slight rumble in the distance. When Trixie and Discord looked out the window, what they saw was a swarm of rabbits rushing out of the forest, towards the house. Angel was still carrying the bag of carrots, but with the aroma of carrot stew taking over his mind, he just simply let go of the bag on the edge of the forest, and caught up with the rest of the rabbits. "It's feeding time!" Yelled Trixie. "Right behind you!" said Discord. Trixie opened the front door, and all of the rabbits stormed in, all lined up accordingly to each bowl of carrot stew. When each rabbit was in, Trixie immediately closed the door behind them, to insure that no rabbit would escape again. With that done, the rabbits began to dig into their bowls. Each rabbit was eating with a satisfied look on their faces, which made Trixie and Discord feel like they accomplished their goal. Fluttershy and the birds were wrapped up practice, and Fluttershy waved goodbye to them. "Same time tomorrow little birdies," said Fluttershy. As Fluttershy flew home, she was hoping that Trixie was able to help her animals just fine. When Fluttershy was flying toward her home, she caught a whiff of something that smelled absolutely delicious. "Oh my. What is that wonderful smell? It smells like... Carrot stew?!? Hmm, maybe Discord was hungry." Fluttershy was about to stop at her door, but in the corner of her eye, she noticed a brown bag laying near the forest. She opened it and saw that it was her carrot bag. "Wait. If the carrots are out here, then how is Discord.... Oh no..." Fearing the worst, Fluttershy quickly rushed into her home. Fluttershy opened the door, and saw all of her little rabbits laying on her floor and furniture. he rabbits were absolutely stuffed, with their bellies poking out everywhere. "Wha-What happened?" asked a concerned Fluttershy. Trixie turned around and noticed Fluttershy. "Fl-Fluttershy! I-I can explain..." Fluttershy looked over to the kitchen to see the remains of the carrot stew. "Did you make carrot stew for my little bunnies?" Trixie replied, "Well, me and Disco-" Trixie wasn't able to finish the sentence, as she saw Fluttershy's mouth wide open looking at the once locked big cabinet that was now wide open. Fluttershy asked,"Trixie. What happened to the big carrot that was in the cabinet? You didn't use it did you?" Trixie began to panic, "I...Uhm... *sigh* I'm sorry Fluttershy." Fluttershy put the pieces together. The carrot bag left outside, The aroma, the bowls, and now, the missing big carrot. Fluttershy gasped and said, "Oh Trixie. I was waiting to give Angel Bunny that carrot for his birthday. It cost me quite a few bits too." Angel was fast asleep after eating almost three bowls worth of carrot stew, and didn't hear what Fluttershy just said. Trixie saw Fluttershy looking down, and began to feel awful for what she did. "I-I'm so sorry, Fluttershy. It's m-" "It's my fault Fluttershy." Fluttershy looked up to see Discord walking into the kitchen. Discord said, "I was the one who told Trixie we should make carrot stew, and I unlocked the cabinet to get the big carrot. We had no other choice, for you see, I let the rabbits escape, along with the carrot bag. I'm sorry Fluttershy, I know you were keeping that carrot for Angel's birthday. I hop you can forgive me" Trixie knew that Discord wasn't the one who let the rabbits escape the house and was about to say something about it, but Discord looked at Trixie and gave her a wink, saying it's okay. Trixie nodded and stayed silent. Fluttershy was silent for a few seconds, but looked back at Trixie and Discord with a smile. "It's okay, Discord. You were only trying to help Trixie." Fluttershy then hugged Trixie. "Thank you for helping Discord bring my little bunnies back home. It was some great thinking for you two to come up with a plan like that. I haven't made carrot stew in so long, but seeing as how my little bunnies like it so much, I might have to make some again." Trixie replied,"You're welcome, Fluttershy. Hey, since I helped make the stew, I'll help you and Discord clean up the bowls. "Oh, It's quite alright...You don't have to." "I insist," said Trixie. "Well...okay then." With that said and done, Trixie began to help Fluttershy and Discord clean up the living room. They all made sure not to make any loud noises to wake up any of the sleeping rabbits. "So, Trixie, were you able to help the beavers with their dam?" "I believe I was, Fluttershy. You see..." Trixie went on to tell Fluttershy every detail of how she was able to help the beavers, with the branches, along with the old rope she found. Fluttershy was very happy to hear that Trixe was able to succeed with helping the beavers. At least, they thought it was a success. The front door was suddenly pushed wide open. The door caused a loud bang when it hit the wall. Fluttershy and Trixie both stared at the doorway, and saw a very drenched beaver. Every rabbit woke up from the loud noise the door made, and they all scattered out of the door way again, only much slower and tired, back to the forest. The beaver was followed by a few more drenched beavers that all walked to Trixie and start shaking their fist. "Little beavers, what's wrong? What happened?" asked Fluttershy. One beaver held up the rope that Trixie used to hold the dam up to Fluttershy. The rope was snapped in the middle, and seeing as how wet the beavers were, Trixie knew that the rope didn't hold the dam like she hoped it would. Trixie felt awful for the poor beavers. "I'm sorry little beavers. I thought I helped, bu once again, I failed. I guess I can't even make a dam right." "Oh Trixie...It's not your fault," said Fluttershy. "Yes it is... I should've realized that old rope wouldn't hold up against a water current...I'm sorry again. I guess I'll move on to Applejack's..." Trixie walked out of Fluttershy's home with her head down, still feeling shame for what she thought was her fault. Fluttershy tried to grab Trixie's attention, but she couldn't do anything except watch Trixie walk away. "Oh my Discord... I just hope she'll be okay," said Fluttershy. Discord replied, "I'm sure she will, Fluttershy. I'm sure she will." Fluttershy then had a thought. "Maybe... We can make some more of that carrot stew that you and Trixie made for the party tonight. Then when she sees that the other ponies like the stew, then maybe that will cheer her up." "That's not a bad idea Fluttershy. I'll get the pot ready again." "I've already got the bag of carrots again. So let's get started." After all the commotion at Fluttershy's home was done, Rainbow Dash flew out from behind the roof and began to fly behind Trixie once again. After seeing what Trixie has done so far today, Rainbow Dash has begun to have second thoughts about the light blue pony. Anytime Trixie seemed like she was up to no good, Rainbow Dash was completely wrong, and Trixie ended up trying her best to do something right, and yet, nothing ever did go right for the poor pony. Trixie made cupcakes with Pinkie, but ended up making a mess by mistake. She was learning to make a dress with Rarity, only to get shut out by Spike. She even tried to help some beavers with their dam at first successfully, but only for it to turn around on her and the dam break anyways. Rainbow Dash was starting to, dare she say, feel bad for the light blue pony. The only problem that was still persisting her from wanting to believe and help Trixie... Was that locket. Rainbow Dash just can't help but feel that it wasn't just some ordinary locket. After all, last time Trixie had a neck piece, she outright took over Ponyville. Rainbow Dash just needed an opportunity to see what the locket really is before she can make a conclusion, and who better to find out something suspicious than Applejack. Having that thought, Rainbow Dash flew to Sweet Apple Acre's before Trixie made it there to discuss the locket with Applejack. > Chapter 9 - An Apple A Day... > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Knowing that Trixie wasn't too far from arriving at Sweet Apple Acres, Rainbow Dash flew as fast as she could to Applejack. Applejack had now cleared almost all of the apple trees with her bucking and was on the last row before taking a break by the apple carriage. Rainbow Dash made sure not to scare Applejack like the last time she was here, and gave a calm call out. "Hey Applejack," said Rainbow Dash. Applejack turned around to see Rainbow Dash floating towards her. She wiped her sweaty forehead with a rag, took a deep breath and waved at Rainbow Dash. Applejack, however, noticed that Rainbow dash didn't look happy, and expected some bad news.. "Hey Rainbow Dash. You're lookin' down. Did ya catch her doin' somethin' bad yet?" asked Applejack. Rainbow Dash gave a big sigh and sat next to Applejack. "Applejack... I haven't. In fact, I-I'm starting to think she's not up to anything at all." A look of disbelief fell onto Applejack's face, followed by a shake of her head. Usually it's Rainbow Dash that's the most untrustworthy of the "Six Equines", but not this time. "Wait, You're jokin' right? You, out of all ponies, believe her?" Rainbow Dash replied, "I'm serious Applejack. I've followed her all day so far, and all she has done, or at least tried to do, is help any pony or animal that needed it, or tried to learn something new." Doubtful, Applejack said,"Uhuh... And did she 'actually' succeed?" "Well, anytime she tried to, something went wrong and she failed, and even though it wasn't her fault, she still felt like it was. To be honest Applejack,it hurts to see somepony try so hard, only to fail again and again. I mean, I'm one of the most competitive ponies out there, you know that, but jeez, I can't help but feel for her willingness to keep trying." Applejack was befuddled by Rainbow Dash's answer, but still wasn't buying it. "So yer tellin' me that you completely trust Trixie now?" Rainbow Dash replied, "Well, not exactly... I've noticed that Trixie has some sort of a locket that she carries with her. She has taken it out and looked at it from time to time." Applejack became very interested in finding out about this new information. "A locket huh? Did ya see what was inside of it?" "No, but on the top of the locket is a picture of Trixie's cutie mark. Why she would have a picture of her cutie mark on it, I don't know, but it's the only thing that's keeping me from believing that's she's being honest with us about changing." Applejack rubbed her hoof under her chin and began to figure out a way that she can see what the locket is all about. She couldn't just outright demand that Trixie give her the locket, nor would simply asking work. Heck, Applejack didn't even know about the locket before Rainbow Dash told her. It would be downright suspicious for Applejack to ask Trixie about it. "That does sound suspicious," said Applejack,"Is she on her way?" "Yeah. She should be here any second,"said Rainbow Dash. "Alrighty. Then here's the plan. I'll try too see if I can get a hold of that locket without her noticin', and then we'll find out just what Trixie is 'really' up to." Rainbow Dash grew concerned. "I don't know Applejack. Why don't we just ask her about it? It could be just something from her friends or family. We wouldn't want to invade her privacy by outright snatching it." "We can't take that chance Rainbow Dash," said Applejack, "Trixie wasn't all private about trying to take revenge on us last time, and I'm not about to let her do it again with whatever that locket may be. Plus, we don't even 'actually' know about it, only that you saw that she had one, so we couldn't ask even if we wanted to." "I suppose you're right... Just... Go easy on her, please Applejack?" Applejack just rolled her eyes at the idea. "I'm not gonna be easy on her, but I'll try to be calm with her around." "Okay. She should be here soon, so I'll watch from one of these trees here," said Rainbow Dash. The two bumped hooves and Rainbow Dash flew to a distant apple tree that had already been bucked, while Applejack continued work on the last few trees in the field. Even though Applejack agreed with her, Rainbow Dash couldn't help but feel that Applejack was going to push Trixie more than she should. She certainly hoped that won't be the case. While waiting for Trixie to arrive Rainbow Dash reflected on the day so far and started questioning herself. Was it right for Rainbow Dash to have been spying on Trixie's every move since she got here? Perhaps Rainbow dash should've given Trixie a chance like the other ponies did, but then, Rainbow Dash wouldn't have seen all of the great things that Trixie had tried to do, and that feeling of distrust would still be in her. To make matters worst, now they were going to try and interrogate Trixie about her locket? Maybe it wasn't such a good idea telling Applejack about it. Rainbow Dash was about to go back to Applejack to see if she could change her mind, but before she could do anything, she noticed Trixie walking up over the hill and quickly rushed back to her hiding spot. "Please Applejack... Give her a chance...,"mumbled Rainbow Dash. When Trixie walked over the big hill she saw a sign on a white fence. On the sign it read, "Welcome to Sweet Apple Acres."There was no doubt that Trixie was in the right place. Trixie walked past the fence and began to observe the farm in front of her. To Trixie's left, she saw a red Stallion plowing a field without breaking a sweat, and to her right, was a young yellow filly carrying some eggs from the nearby chicken coup towards the barn. The barn itself was quite massive. Far bigger than any barn that Trixie had seen before. Trixie looked for any sign of Applejack, but she was nowhere to be found. To find out,Trixie decided to follow the yellow filly into the barn, hoping that the filly would know.Trixie crept the barn door open and looked inside. The barn was just as big inside as it was out. Trixie looked around, and saw the little filly about to put the eggs she was carrying onto a table. "Um, excuse me, little filly?" asked Trixie. The sudden break of silence made the yellow filly jump and almost lose the eggs she was carrying. "Oh. I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare you." The Filly regripped the eggs and put them onto the table successfully. The Filly replied, "Oh it's alright, miss..." The Filly stopped talking when she turned around to see who talked to her. "Tri-Trixie?!?" The Little Filly backed up, knowing well what Trixie did in the past in Ponyville. Trixie didn't want to scare the little filly more than she already did. "I-I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to scare you. I'm not here to hurt you." The yellow filly heard what Trixie said, and didn't seem to be frightened anymore by her. Trixie felt bad for scaring the poor little filly. "W-well, you haven't attacked me yet. So I guess you can't be that bad," the filly said. The Filly raised her hoof to Trixie as a sign of greetings. "My name's Apple Bloom. It's Nice to meet you, miss Trixie." Trixie smiled at Apple Bloom, and then shook her hoof. "Nice to meet you too." Apple Bloom asked,"So...Um...Trixie, if you don't mind me askin', why are you here?" "Oh. Well, I was looking for Applejack. I'm trying to find something I'm good at besides magic, and so I'm seeing if what Applejack does is something I can do as wells." "Oh! well, she's finishing buckin' the last line of apple trees up on the hill just outside here." "Great. Thank you, Apple bloom. Sorry again for scaring you." "Aww it's fine, miss Trixie. For what it's worth from a filly like me, you don't seem as bad as my sister was making you out to be." Trixie smiled after hearing that. "Thank you, Applebloom. I just hope your sister is as kind to me. She didn't seem so earlier today." "I'm sure she will be. Applejack's not usually one to stay upset at folks for too long. Just show that you're a hard worker, and she'll start to like ya." Trixie nodded at Applebloom and waved goodbye as she began walking out the barn, towards the hill of apple trees. All of the apple trees closest to Trixie were already plucked, so Trixie continued into the field of trees. With each row Trixie passed, she became more frustrated, as each row she seen so far was filled with empty apple trees. "Applejack must be one strong pony to buck all of these trees in one day," thought Trixie. Trixie made it all the way toward the back of the field, before following the white fence, edging the property, down towards the left of the field. Trixie was beginning to think that she would never find Applejack, that is, until she found the last few trees with apples in them, and under one, was the orange furred pony she was looking for. Trixie took a deep breath, hoping that Applejack wasn't still upset by her presence in Ponyville, and began walking towards Applejack to greet her. "Um, hello Applejack." Unlike the other ponies, Applejack didn't give her such a warm welcome. "Hello, Trixie. So, you wanna learn how to buck for apples huh? It's not as easy as it looks, and takes a lot of time and strength. Are you sure you want to do this?" "Well, I'm willing to give it a shot, Applejack." "Hmph... We'll see. Just to let you know, I still don't trust you, and if it weren't for Twilight, I would've kicked you out Ponyville myself." "I understand. All I can hope is to change that, and perhaps, maybe learn a thing or two from you." Applejack took a deep breath and directed Trixie to the next apple tree in line. Applejack showed Trixie the process of bucking, and how she uses just enough force to garner a set of apples into each basket, along with packing the basket's into a carriage that her brother, Big Mac, will take back to the barn once all the apple harvesting is complete. Trixie felt like it was a lot of hard work, but she was going to take the challenge no matter what, even if Applejack still disliked her at the end of it. After showing the last few steps, Applejack pointed to Trixie. "Now you try," said Applejack. Trixie understood, and gave the bucking a shot. Trixie said to herself,"Well, here goes nothing." Trixie set herself up, ready to kick, and then, "THUMP"! Trixie kicked it about as hard as she could. Unfortunately, she was only able to make three apples fall from the tree. Trixie never really the strongest pony out there. Applejack shook her head at the sight of the barely filled basket in front of her. "No,no,no...Like this." Applejack demonstrated the buck again to Trixie. Trixie gave it another shot. This time however, she only made two apples fall. Applejack was getting rather frustrated. "Come on, Trixie, put your back into it. You can't tell me that's all you got," said Applejack. Trixie replied, "I'm certainly trying my best, Applejack." "You're not tryin' hard enough. Try bucking harder!" With each buck Trixie did, Applejack became more frustrated at her. The pointing hooves and attitude that Applejack was giving Trixie was starting to annoy her and even though she was trying to be as polite as possible, it didn't stop her from getting upset. "Look, I'm trying my best Applejack. If you don't want me to be here, then just say so! It's not like I'm good at anything else anyways. Perhaps it was bad for me to come here and try to see if I could prove to you I've changed. I'll just leave now." Applejack got frustrated even more after what Trixie said. "You can't just quit! Givin' up is worse than anypony lyin' or betrayin' ya, and you seem to fit all three. Didn't you mother ever tea-" Applejack was quickly interrupted by the voice of a very upset Trixie. "DON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT MY MOTHER!" Shouted Trixie. "Or What!?! You'll try to enslave Ponyville again!?! Things got really heated between the two ponies, and they were eye to eye. "I said I was sorry Applejack!," yelled Trixie. "I...Don't...Believe...You!" Yelled Applejack. After saying that, to take her frustration out, Applejack bucked the nearby apple tree as hard as she could. Doing so, however, caused every last apple from the tree, to fall at once. Applejack looked up, realizing the imminent pile of apples about to fall on her like earlier in the day. Applejack closed her eyes and covered her head waiting for the impact, however, she didn't feel anything fall onto her. As confused as Applejack was, she opened one eye to see why nothing had fallen onto her. Applejack was surprised, because what she saw was Trixie using her magic to hold a basket above Applejack's head before the apples landed on her. She could tell Trixie was straining to hold the basket up though, and quickly moved from under it. Although she didn't want to admit it, Applejack had to thank Trixie. "Uh, thanks Trixie... Now I just got to get the rest of..." Applejack was at a lost of words at what she saw when she turned to look at the tree. There were five baskets, all filled with apples, all floating from Trixie's magic. Applejack couldn't believe that Trixie was capable of doing such, though, Trixie wasn't done yet. Trixie, straining and sweating profusely, began walking towards the carriage that was holding the other baskets of apples while still holding each basket with her magic. "I'll...Show...You...That...I...Can...Do...It." said Trixie. "Trixie, don't strain yourself. You'll use up all of your magic," pleaded AJ. Trixie just kept going, not listening to what Applejack had to say. "Come on, Trixie, your sweatin' bullets." Trixie kept going, and it didn't seem like she was going to stop until she made it to the carriage. Applejack didn't know what to do. She could see the determination in Trixie's eyes... This wasn't the same Trixie she once knew. Applejack was actually impressed, but she didn't want the light blue pony, that's obviously in pain, to wear herself out completely. Applejack knew what she had to say, but she wasn't going to like it. "I-I'm sorry okay? I was a little too hard on you... Just don't hurt yourself! Please stop..." Even with an apology, Trixie still refused to listen, can continued through the pain of holding those five baskets. Her magic was becoming weaker and weaker, but with determination and the push to prove Applejack wrong, Trixie made it to the carriage. One by one, Trixie placed each basket into the carriage. When the last basket was on the carriage, Trixie stopped using her magic and, although feeling accomplished for what she did, collapsed onto the ground. Applejack instantly went to Trixie's side to see if she was still conscious. Although extremely exhausted, Trixie was still awake, trying to catch her breath. "Are you alright Trixie?" asked a concerned Appljack. Trixie while panting, replied, "Next time... don't buck... So hard." It was like all the bad thoughts Applejack had of Trixie had flown away as she couldn't help but crack a smile at Trixie. Applejack helped Trixie get up, and let her lay against the carriage for a minute. Applejack wanted to apologize to Trixie for treating her so badly over bucking the apple tree. "I'm sorry for pushing you so hard, Trixie. I-" Applejack couldn't finish her sentence, as Trixie interrupted her.. "It's quite alright, Applejack. I didn't expect you to believe me earlier, but I wanted to prove to you that I have changed for the better. I don't know if saving you from a pile of apples does that or not, but I had to at least try and show that I can be strong, and commited." Applejack put a hoof on Trixie's shoulder. "I think there's no doubt now that you have changed Trixie. I see tha-" Applejack lost train of thought when she looked down for a moment to see what looked like the locket Rainbow Dash described earlier, laying on the ground. Not taking any chances, Applejack snatched the locket form the ground. "Ahah! What's this huh?" Questioned Applejack. Trixie saw what was in Applejack's hoof, and tried to grab it. "Please Applejack, give it back!" said Trixie. "Why you want it back so badly? Are you hiding somethin'?" "No Applejack. I thought you trusted me now." "I would completely trust you if you would just tell me what's inside." "That's none of your business, Applejack!" Trixie would use her magic, but it was still drained from her carrying all those apples. "Why don't I just take a look myself, Trixie and see if you're tellin' the truth?" Rainbow Dash overheard this, and decided that enough was enough. She flew out of the tree and towards the two fighting ponies. "Please Applejack. Don't open it. It's important to me what's inside of it..." Applejack wasn't buying it, and using her hoof, began to open the locket. "Please, don't! It was my mothers!" Yelled Trixie. Applejack stopped herself from opening the locket. "Your... mothers?" Asked Applejack. "DOOOONNNN'T!!!" The two ponies turned to see a blue pony flying towards their direction. Rainbow Dash tried to snatch the locket form Applejack's hoof, but she hit it too hard. The locket fell out of Applejack's hoof and toward the ground. It was as if time stood still as the three ponies watched the locket fall directly onto the edge of a pointed rock... And snap in half... Trixie did nothing but stand still with a traumatized look upon her face. Rainbow Dash and Applejack were in shock as well, as they saw what was hiding within the locket. The locket contained a picture of what looked like Trixie as a Filly. Trixie was wearing her wizard hat, and her cape that anypony could recognize, but it looked like the picture was taken at a birthday party many years ago. Trixie was hugging the leg of a white mare that was smiling down at her... It seemed to be Trixie's mother. On the inside of the snapped door of the locket, was a message that read, To my Sweet Little Trixie. May you always be the magical pony I know you are. Don't let anyone tell you any different. Love, Mom. Applejack and Rainbow Dash looked up at Trixie. There was no doubt that tears began to stream from Trixie's eyes. Rainbow Dash and Applejack were speechless and didn't know what to say. Applejack tried to say, "Tr-Trixie... I-I Didn't mean..." Trixie didn't say anything, and just stared at the broken locket. She began to pick up the snapped locket's pieces, put it in her pocket, and said one last thing while trying to choke back tears. "I'm sorry... I'm sorry I'm not good enough...mom." Trixie immediately turned and began to run out of Sweet Apple Acres. "Trixie, wait!" Yelled Rainbow Dash. Rainbow Dash looked at Applejack with a shameful look. "I hope you're happy, Applejack." "Hey, it wouldn't have fallen out of my hoof if you hadn't try to snatch it!" "I was only trying to stop you from hurting Trixie! Now she's gone off to Celestia knows where." Applejack was going to respond, but she know she couldn't. It was her fault. "I'm gonna try and find her. If I were you Applejack, I'd figure out a good way to make it up to Trixie." Before Applejack could even respond, Rainbow Dash took off to try and find Trixie. Needless to say, Applejack felt like the biggest jerk in all of Ponyville. How was she better than the Trixie she once knew? Applejack was never like this to anypony, why was Trixie any different. Everypony deserves another shot, and Applejack didn't even think about it. Applejack had to make it up to Trixie somehow... Applejack looked at the carriage of apples, and that's when it hit her... Trixie doesn't have a home carriage anymore... "Big Mac!" she called out, "We got a project to do and we don't have a lot of time!" > Chapter 10 - A Searching We Will Go > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow Dash was flying as fast as she ever has trying to spot even a remote resemblance of the now lost light blue pony. Seeing how fast Trixie ran away, she could be anywhere by now. The sun was also setting, which meant that the party celebrating the new castle was going to start soon, so she had no time to waste and began her search. Rainbow Dash started her search right in the middle of Ponyville, and branched out form there. She looked around every corner and through every alley, but didn't see Trixie anywhere. She decided to ask a nearby pony for any signs of Trixie. "Excuse me miss. Have you seen a light blue pony named Trixie? about ye high, with a whiteish mane? "Oh you mean that wonderful pony, Trixie? Hmm... No I can't say I have." The rainbow haired pony was taken by surprise by what the pony just said. "W-wait? You think that Trixie is wonderful?" "Why of course! A little filly was going all around the town telling everypony about how Trixie helped her with her kite. It has gotten all around Ponyville, and it seems like like everypony here is very happy that Trixie did such a sweet thing. I completely misjudged her for her past events, and It seems she really has changed from her former self." "Yeah... I guess I misjudged too." "What was that dear?" "U-Uh, nothing... If you see her, could you tell her to come by the castle?" "I certainly will, Rainbow Dash." "Thanks." Rainbow Dash continued her search for Trixie. Back and forth she went, hoping to find any sign that would lead her to the poor pony. She wounded up asking almost everypony in Ponyville if they had seen her. She would get the same story from everypony, but no answer as to where Trixie was. Rainbow Dash didn't want to give up, but she couldn't find Trixie on her own, she knew that she needed help. Rainbow Dash flew back the Rainbow Kingdom castle to tell Twilight what is going on. In the castle, Twilight was discussing with Pinkie about the party supplies. The interior of the castle was now covered in streamers and balloons. "Well Twilight! Everything should be almost set! Vinyl Should be here soon to set up her DJ booth, and we will start the party!" "That's great to hear Pinkie. I just hope that everypony makes it to the par-" "Twilight!" Twilight and Pinkie turned to see a Rainbow haired pony blasting through the front doors and stopping just before hitting them. Rainbow Dash tried catching her breath from flying so fast. The purple Alicorn knew this wasn't just an early arrival for the party, which made her looked at Rainbow Dash with concern. "Rainbow Dash? What are you doing back here so early? What's wrong?" "Twilight. So- Something bad has happened..." "What, Rainbow Dash? What happened?" Pinkie gave a big gasp. "Oh no! Did nopony get the hundreds of invitations I sent?!?" "No... It's about Trixie..." Twilight knew that something wrong happened to Trixie, just by looking at Dash's face. "What...happened... Rainbow Dash?" "Well... You see..." She began to explain all of the events that occurred during the day. One by one, she told Twilight about Trixie's events with the other five ponies. Twilight already knew about Pinkie's story with Trixie. The cupcakes were pretty good. With each story, Twilight grew more worried and saddened about Trixie's events through out the day. She thought Trixie would atleast find one thing she was good at, atleast not by mistake like with the cupcakes. All that changed however, when Rainbow Dash told her about the events that took place back at Sweet Apple Acre's. It was easy to say, Twilight was livid, but not just at Applejack, but at Rainbow Dash aswell. All Twilight did was smack a hoof to her face, shake her head, and look back at the guilty feeling Pegasus in front of her. "That Applejack! She is such a hard head sometimes, but so are you! I knew you two weren't going to be easy on her, but to do so much as to not only spy on her the whole day, but to dig into her personal business like a locket is just plain out of character, even for you Rainbow Dash. You both should've just given her a chance!" Rainbow Dash continued to feel guilty, with an obvious hoof rubbing her left arm and he head down. "I know Twilight. I tried to stop Applejack from opening it, but I should've never spied on Trixie to begin with. all she ever wanted to do was find something she would be good at, and maybe make some friends, and me and Applejack let our pride get in the way of that. I realize that now." "YOU'RE DARN RIGHT YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE!" Rainbow Dash and Twilight looked at the obviously upset pony staring right at the Rainbow haired pony. "Trixie has been nothing but nice to us since she's returned! Was I upset that she took my mouth away and tried to control all of us? Sure I was, but I'll always forgive anypony willing to change and become a better pony then they once were! I won't lie, I was pretty upset that she made a mess in my kitchen today, but guess what? Even with her mistake, she ended up making a cupcake mix combination I have never tasted before, and it was delicious!" She gave out a big sigh and continued. "The point is... Sometimes, even the ones who make even the worst mistakes, can still do something that will make up for them, and ultimately, make them a better pony. All it takes is a little initiative... And some support from your friends. That's what Trixie needed, Dash... A friend." Dash was beginning to feel horrible after hearing what Pinkie had to say to her. "She's right," Dash said to herself, "Maybe if I would've just given her a hoof and helped her along the way, then maybe she would have found something that would be right for her... At the very least, I would've made a new friend." A slight tear fell from the guilt driven pony's eye. The sun was going down fast, however, and Twilight knew they didn't have much time before the party would be starting. "Well, we're not going to find her just moping around here. We still have time to find her before the party starts tonight." "But I've looked everywhere in Ponyville, Twilight. She's nowhere to be found." Twilight thought about this. Even if Trixie ran away form Ponyville entirely, she wouldn't have gone far, and Rainbow Dash would've seen her easily. Then it hit her. "Well, if I were upset and wanted to get desperately get away, I would go to the only place where no ordinary pony would dare explore. It didn't take long for Dash to catch on. "Oh no, you don't think..." Twilight nodded her head. "There's no other place that was seem fitted for a pony to get away. We're going to the Everfree Forest. Knowing how fearful Trixie is of the creatures within that forest, she couldn't have gone far in, so we might have a good chance in finding her before sundown. we must hurry though!" "Right! Let me just place these decorations over her-" "Sorry Pinkie, but I need somepony to stay here and not only finish preparation, but to also make sure that everypony makes it into the castle with out creating a hassle. Me and Rainbow Dash will be much faster with our wings, so if we do find Trixie, we will be back in a flash." Pinkie was disappointed, but she understood that there was a party still to prepare, and she needed to make it the best party that she could create. "Okay then, but please find her soon, I'm SUPER DUPER worried about her now!" "Don't worry Pinkie, we will! When the other equines show up, let them know what's going on. They need to know just as much as you do." Pinkie nodded in agreement. "Rainbow Dash, let's book it!" "Right! See ya Pinkie." After a wave goodbye, the two flying ponies were off, and the search to find Trixie was on again. The two ponies flew as fast as they could, knowing that time wasn't on their side. "I just hope Trixie is okay. If those creatures find her..." "They won't Rainbow Dash, we'll have her in and out in no time." "I swear, I'll never doubt her again..." "Let's just hurry." Alas, the two ponies were now just outside of the Everfree Forest. "We don't have much time left Rainbow Dash, the sun has almost down, so let's make this fast." "Got it!" They walked in and began to search for Trixie. They were looking for any clues of the missing light blue pony. they looked through every bush and around every tree around the front end of the forest, but to no avail. "Trixie!" "Trixie! It's Twilight, are you here?" They were starting to get worried. How far was Trixie in the forest? Did one of the creature's get her before they did? So many negative outcomes went rushing through Rainbow Dash's mind all at once. After about 30 minutes of searching, Rainbow Dahs couldn't take it any more, and began running around calling out for Trixie. "Trixie please! Where are you?!?" "Dash, settle down!" "I'm so sorry Trixie! I promise I will fi-" Before she knew it, Rainbow Dash was face first into the dirty path after her front leg tripped over a n exposed root that grew within the beaten path of the forest. It was nothing, but Rainbow Dash wasn't very happy about it. "Rainbow Dash are you okay?" asked Twilight. She didn't say anything. "Rainbow Dash...?" Yet still, Dash answer. Instead she reached for something that was hiding under a nearby bush. When she grasped it within her hoof, her eyes widened and her face was showing a display of shock, for what she had found... Was the front piece of the locket Trixie has. "Look what I found Twilight!" Rainbow showed Twilight the locket, while explaining hat it the front piece. "Well, there's no doubt that she is in here somewhere. She must've dropped the piece by tripping on the same exposed root." "Mhm! Oh hey, look!" The excited pony pointed next to where she found the locket piece. What lied in the pointed direction was what looked like hoof print in some old mud, leading off the beaten path and into the deep forest. "Let's go Twilight! This may be our only chance in finding her!" "I'm right behind you!" Not wasting anymore time, the two ponies made a mad dash within the forest, trying not to lose the trail of hoof prints that were fading in and out of the bed of the forest. They knew they were close, but even so, they were still keeping a eye out for any possible creatures lurking about, they are off the regular route after all. It was not long before the trail of hoof prints ended at a bush sitting right next to a large tree. "Where's the trail? it can't b-" "Shhhhhhh..." Twilight hushed Rainbow dash as they began to listen. What they were was some sort of whimpering. Not taking any chances, they followed the noise. With each step, the noise got louder, and louder, and louder until they were behind some overgrown bushes and Everfree plants. The whimpering was just on the other side, and with each step, they made their way through the shrubbery to the other side. What was on the other side was exactly what they were hoping, for what was causing the noise, was none other than Trixie. She was lying on the ground with her head laying in her arms, obviously crying her heart out, so loud even that it didn't seem that she heard Twilight and rainbow Dash moving through the shrubbery behind her. "Hey, Trixie," said Twilight. The sudden call of Trixie's name cause her to jolt up and turn to see two familiar ponies staring right back at her tear streaming purple eyes. For a long while, there was silence, for none of the three ponies knew what to say next. > Chapter 11 - When I Grow Up I Want To Be... > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Trixie? Do you mind if we talk to you?" Trixie didn't say anything and just turned her head back and while staring at the vine infested tree, she said,"What does it matter? It won't change the fact that I'm just a failure." "Now come on, Trixie..Sure you made a few mistakes, but you can change, you just need to keep try-." "Trying? That's easy for you to say Twilight. You're a princess. You're destiny is already set. You know what you want to do and even if you made the worst mistake, you would still have your friends to support you. I make a mistake, and everypony hates me. I could see it on all of their faces when I walked through Ponyville today, but I guess I can't blame them... I just ... I just wish I had somepony to support me every step of the way like all of you do with each other... Then, maybe I would actually be 'able' to do something right for once." Twilight was about to speak up, but the rainbow haired pony beside her said, "That's not true Trixie! You may not know it, but every pony you visited today, you ended up doing 'some' good even though you messed up. Like Pinkie's cupcakes, or, or helping Rarity create a great dress, or-" "Wait... Rainbow... H-How do you know all of this?" When Trixie asked that, it clicked in Rainbow's head that she hadn't told Trixie yet about what she was doing all day today. Rainbow panicked as Trixie turned back to face directly at Rainbow Dash. "O-Oh.. Well, um... I... You see..." Twilight began giving Rainbow a dirty look, and the rainbow Pegasus knew she had to tell the truth to the whelped eyed pony in front of her. Rainbow Dash gave a big sigh and said, "The truth is that I have been following you all day today. Me and Applejack just wanted to be sure you weren't up to any funny business, but I...we, should've given you a chance like the other ponies did today... I'm sorry Trixie... I really feel bad about it, really!" Trixie took that information in, and Dash was prepared for a back lashing from Trixie, but instead, Trixie just looked at the ground. "I-It's alright. I understand why you two would. It's not like I haven't deserved the doubt from anypony. I couldn't help any of them even if I tried." "But you did! Remember the filly and the kite? From what I hear, she went around all of Ponyville telling everypony about what you did, and it seems like they all have a change of heart about you, Trixie!" "You're... You're just saying that..." "Trixie I swear on my life!" Trixie just couldn't believe that the ponies she once enslaved could change their thoughts about her just over one good deed. "... Did... Did they really say nice things about me, Rainbow Dash?" "I promise you they did! You made a big impact by doing just the simplest thing." Rainbow dash grabbed the locket piece she found earlier and put it in Trixie's hoof. "Sometimes, the smallest thing, make the biggest difference. I realize that now, Trixie." Trixie looked at her half broken piece of locket in her hoof, and a tear streamed form her eye. Twilight asked "Are you okay, Trixie?" Trixie didn't reply the question, but said, "My mother... "She 'was' the only one who believed in my dream... To be a magician like my father was." Twilight and Rainbow Dash looked at each other and back to Trixie after hearing what she said. Twilight walked over to Trixie, sat next to her, and asked, "Your father was a magician as well?" Trixie wiped the tear off her cheek, and responded to Twilight's question. "Yes. My father was the Great, Magnificent Hoofdini." the two ponies next to Trixie eyes opened wide after hearing this. "You're dad was 'The' Hoofdini? The Stallion that could do almost any trick in the book?!?" Trixie nodded. "From what my mother told me, she met him after he chose her as a volunteer for one of his tricks in his show in Manehatten. My mother told me it was love at first sight between her and my father. She would go to every show that he had around Equestria. My father would always choose her for his trick and they would pull it off successfully every time. after a year of shows, dates, and laughs together, my father popped the question to my mother, and she gladly said yes and they got married a few months later." Rainbow Dash and Twilight were just imagining how much those two were in love with one another,, but they knew this story wouldn't have a happy ending. "Anyways, my mother became pregnant with me about 3 months after they married, and my father, in celebration of the news, wanted to attempt a new trick that he had never pulled off before. My father wanted to be put under water in a straight jacket that was locked and escape before he...drowned..." They knew where this was going. "As you probably know... He... H-he Didn't make it... So my mom was left to raise me by herself. She tried to date again, but she just couldn't see herself with any other pony than my father... That's how much she loved him." My mother told me she didn't know what she was going to do at first, but when I was born, she felt that all her problems seemed to vanish into thin air. That I was a magical gift that relieved her of all her pain and suffering from the tragic loss of my father." Twilight began to feel her eyes become teary. "My mother told me it was hard at first, but raising me on her own became fairly simple. That is, until I told her I wanted to do magic." "When I mother I wanted to be like my dad, My Mother began to cry, and I didn't understand why. That's when she told me what happened to my father. Of course, me being a Filly at the time, it made me sad, but I was also happy that my mom got to meet the love of her life, and even though it was short time, that it was the best time of her life knowing that she was with somepony that she saw being with for the rest of her life. My mother just didn't want the same thing to happen to me like what happened to my father, but regardless, she supported my decision like the great mother she was." Trixie eyes began to whelp up again. "After a few years of trying, I successfully did my first trick. The other Fillies at my school thought my magic was spectacular, and that's how I got my cutie mark. I immediately ran home and showed my mother my new cutie mark, and she couldn't have been more proud of me that day. She took a picture of my new cutie mark, but she also gave me something else. She asked me to follow her into her room. I thought I was in trouble for some reason, but she brought out a chest and gave it to me to open. When I opened it, what I found was a purple Wizard hat and cape with a star design flown all over it. My mom told me that when I told her I wanted to do magic, she made sure to get me the attire to go along with it when I was ready. If I was going to be like my father, I had to look the part too." Twilight smiled and said,"It sounds like your mother loves you very much." Trixie was quiet for a second. "You are right... She 'did' love me very much..." Twilight's smile vanished after hearing Trixie say that... "As I got older, I learned more magic tricks and got better and better at them. It helped that my mother supported me the whole way. Unfortunately... About a few years ago, my mother became...very ill." Trixie took a big gulp, trying to hold back some obvious tears that began to stream down her face. "U-Um... We weren't too sure what caused her to become so ill, but doctors informed her that it was a disease that was from genetics in our family. Anyway... T-The doctors... Told her..." The tears began to flow again. "...That...T-That she wouldn't survive for much longer." Twilight covered her mouth with her hoof while Rainbow Dash's eyes began to whelp up again. "I didn't want to believe it was true. I was angry, and more upset then I had ever been. Why would this happen to my mother out of all ponies? I just denied it, but I could see her, day by day, getting slower, and more tired. I would just beg everyday that somepony, or something, would just stop this from happening, but I never got an answer." The two ponies in front of Trixie were trying there best not to tear up, but it didn't stop a few drop h ere and there form their eyes. "She eventually got to the point where she couldn't get out of bed... I tried my best to be there for here every second I could, because, though I didn't want to believe it, I knew that she would no longer be here soon. Then the day came... I-I knew she wasn't going to make it another day, and knowing this, my mother pulled me close to her, and reached, with the little strength she had left in her, for a drawer next to her bed. What she grabbed was wrapped present, and handed it to me. I opened it, and inside... was a locket... This locket." Trixie grabbed the broken half of the locket and held it tight in her hoof. "My mother told me that she was so proud of who I became, and knew that I had a long, happy life ahead of me. The locket was given to her by my father when they first met, and that she wouldn't have a reason to hold on to it for much longer, that I would appreciate it more than she ever could. I noticed that she put the picture of my cutie mark on the top of the locket, and inside, was an old picture of me hugging her leg the day when I got my new wizard hat and cape. I read what she wrote on the inside of the locket door, and just as I finished reading it, my mother grabbed my hoof and I looked back at her with my tear filled eyes... a-and said with her final breaths,'Don't cry Trixie... I love you so much... never change who you are... my little... Trixie...'" "Trixie broke down right there, and covered her head, crying like she had never cried before. The purple and blue pony before her were in tears as well and moved closer to Trixie and began to hug her, trying to comfort her in any way possible. Twilight was first to speak after a long and thoughtful hug. "I-I'm so sorry to hear that happen to you, Trixie. This world truly is unfair at times. I couldn't imagine losing both my parents so soon like you did. You must have the biggest amount of courage I've seen out of anypony to keep going after that." "Y-Yeah," Rainbow dash agreed, "I may be one tough pony, but I couldn't imagine losing my dad like that. I wish I would've known this sooner... I feel like such a jerk for ever doubting you." Trixie wiped her tears off of her face and looked at Rainbow dash. "It's okay Rainbow Dash. I've never told anypony about my personal life before, so you couldn't have known. After that happened, I made it my determined goal to be the greatest, and most powerful magician I could be. Not just for me, but for both of my parents. I felt like if I wasn't at the top, and if I wasn't loved by everypony, that I was a failure. Then I met you all. I thought I could just be the better pony no matter what, but then you out magicked me, Twilight. That's when I realized that I wasn't as great as I thought as I was, and so I decided to take out my anger on all of you, instead of just accepting that I wasn't better. It was jealousy, and the feeling that I failed my parents that made me want to take you all out back then. The locket was all I had left to keep me going and try to live what I was destined to do, but it just didn't worked out because of what I did in the past. I was determined that if I couldn't do maigc, then I could find something that I could do even better, and yet, every time I tried to do something different with you all, I wounded up messing it up, or upsetting somepony. I guess it's obvious that I didn't try hard enough, because Applejack still doesn't trust me. I'm not sure if I'll ever find the right thing for me now..." Twilight responded with, "Don't you worry about Applejack, I'm dealing with her immediately when I get back to the castle, but Trixie, from what you shared with me and Rainbow Dash today, I can tell you're one of the bravest, and strongest I know. To keep going after such a disaster would be so hard for any other pony, but you took it head on and were determined to be the best, and to me, that's more than enough to me to call you a true friend of mine." "I completely agree, Trixie. No matter what, You'll always have a friend in me." Although her eyes were whelped up, Trixie smiled and hugged both ponies for their kind words. "T-Thank you, both of you, for not only listening to me, but believing in me. I'm happy to call you... my friends..." They all smiled at one another, but Twilight was quick to check the time, and realized that it was almost completely dark out, and knowing the creatures in the Everfree forest, Twilight knew there wasn't much time left. "It's getting really late, and The party starts in 10 minutes. If we hurry, we can make the party on time. Trixie, I know you are still unsure of everypony else, but I promise, as a princess... As a friend, I will have your back if anypony says anything or tries to do anything to you." "I-I don't know..." "Please Trixie? You can count on your new buddy, Rainbow Dash, to beat up any of those other ponies for you!" The Rainbow haired pony began swinging her hooves in mid air, and this made Trixie chuckle a little. Trixie gave it some hard thought, but eventually answered. "Well, okay. I would rather be in a nice castle than on muddy ground for another day anyways... but... I'll never make it on hoof." Both winged ponies knew that this was true. Even with lighting speed, she wouldn't make it. Then it hit Rainbow Dash. "Have you ever wanted to fly Trixie?" asked Rainbow Dash. "I suppose I have when I was a little filly, but what does that have to...Oh..." > Chapter 12 - I Think I Can... I Know I Can... > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow Dash grabbed Trixie around her waist, and began to hoist her up into the air. "A-Are you sure this is okay Rainbow Dash? I don't want you to hurt yourself." Rainbow dash just laughed at the thought. "Please Trixie... I'm a lot stronger than you think, ha ha!" Although Trixie was excited about flying, she couldn't help but feel a little nervous. She was a Unicorn after all, and although she always wanted to fly, the feeling of her legs just dangling in the air made her close her eyes in fear. The three ponies made their way out of the Everfree forest flying as fast as they could to the castle for the sun was sinking fast, and there was no time to lose. Twilight just sighed and said to herself, "If only Celestia would just keep the sun up a little bit longer." The rainbow pony looked down at a scared light blue pony covering her eyes, and said, "Trixie. Don't you want to see the view?!?" Trixie was shaking with fear and wouldn't budge. "Uh oh... I think my... grip is slipping!" That made the fearful pony jolt up and shout, "Don't!" Rainbow dash tried to hide her laugh, while Trixie gave her a dirty look, but when she looked back in front of her. It was the most amazing view she had ever seen. She could see all of Ponyville, Cloudsdale, and even in the distance, the Canterlot castle was visible. In an instant, her eyes grew with excitement at the sight in front of her. "I-I'm...Flying...I'm actually flying!" "Yeah you are!" Yelled Rainbow Dash. Without hesitation, she held her hooves out in front of her, as if she were the one with wings, trying to get as much speed as possible. For the first time since she could remember, Trixie felt happy, and nothing could bring her down, that is, unless she were dropped of course. Trixie continued to laugh and smile as she gazed over all of Ponyville. She would give an occasional "WOOHOO!" as Pegasus holding would sway back and forth, doing tricks while going really fast. Twilight and Rainbow Dash could only smile at the light blue pony that was nothing but joyful as she grinned the biggest grin that either pony has ever seen on her face. In the midst of the fun Trixie was having, she saw the Castle in the distance in all of its glory. There was a giant sign hanging on the front of the castle that read, "Castle Celebration Night!" She could see numerous ponies of Ponyville making their way inside of the castle to attend the party. Trixie was filled with excitement and shouted, "We're going to make it!" The three ponies swooped down to the castles' stairs, and there, they saw a familiar looking pink pony standing at the door way, greeting everypony into the castle. "Welcome! Step Right in! Music and treats are down the hall! Hold on a minute mister...... Okay, your Good!" Typical Pinkie Pie fashion. Twilight waved her hoof at Pinkie and said,"We're here Pinkie!" Pinkie turned to see them and instantly focused on the light blue pony in between them. "Trixie!!! You made it!!!" Yelled Pinkie. Pinkie ran down the stairs like and gave Trixie an even bigger hug than she did earlier in the day. Trixie returned the hug but was trying to catch her breath from how tight she was being held by the pink pony. "Where have you been!?! I was scared you weren't gonna make it!" "Y-You were?" "Of course I was! Everypony is waiting inside for you! I wouldn't know what to say if you didn't show up!" Trixie looked felt dumbfounded by what Pinkie just said. "Wait... Everypony's waiting for me?" "Of course they are! We all are! Come on in!" Trixie looked at the two ponies beside her for an explanation, but even they were confused at what was going on. Regardless, the four ponies walked into castle to join the other ponies in some fun. At the top of the castle's stairs, the castle's doors were open and through them was the sight of streamers, different colored lights flashing, and dance music blaring loudly. It seemed like almost everypony in Ponyville was in attendance and having a great time. Although Trixie was much more comfortable now, she still felt like everypony was staring at her as she walked toward the main hall to the party. Why was it exactly that everypony wants to see her? Is she about to get the flack she deserves by all of Ponyville's residence for what she did? Or is it for something else? She only hoped that it was the second option. The four ponies made it down the main hall to the dance floor, where there was a blue haired pony rocking the castle with her music that had everypony dancing their hooves off. "Woo! This party's killer!" Shouted a random pony. "If you three will excuse me for just one quickity quick second! I'll be right back!" With that said, Pinkie made her way through the dancing ponies and onto the stage where The DJ booth was. "Hey Vinyl!" "Sup Pinkie Pink?!?" "Can ya cut the beat real fast?!?" "Not a problem!" Vinyl stopped the music and everypony stopped dancing to see what was going on. "Hey Everypony! Sorry for interrupting the music! Are you all enjoying the party so far?!?" There was an immense cheer form the crowd of ponies in response. "Great! We'll get right back to the music, but first, I'd like to announce that our super duper awesome guest is finally here!" Trixie realized what was about to happen and began to panic. She though to herself, "Oh no.. I need to hide somewhere fa-" Before she could finish the thought, the spotlight shined onto Trixie in the crowd, and just like that, she was stunned and didn't move. "Give a SUPER WARM WELCOME to Trixie everypony!" And just like that, everypony was staring down Trixie, and she knew it. She couldn't move and was ready to receive some backlash from everypony in the castle. Rainbow Dash had that same feeling and was beginning to walk towards Trixie in case if she needed back up, but Twilight stopped her in her tracks. Then... Something unexpected happened. Everypony cheered in kindness and appreciation for the light blue pony. As confused as she has been this whole day, Trixie has never been more confused in her life at the fact that all of these ponies were cheering her. "I-I don't understand. Everypony wants me here? N-Nopony is mad at me?" "Ofcourse we do, darling." Trixie turned to see Rarity walking towards her with what looked like another gift. "And no Trixie, nopony in all of Ponyville doesn't want you here." "I just don't get it. Since I've been here, the only pony's I've only associated myself with you six. Why does everypony else like me?" Rarity chuckled and replied," It's a bit of a long story. You see, when you left me, no thanks to spike, Pinkie immediately barged into my shop, and told me all about your delicious cupcake mix you ended up creating." Trixie looked shocked by what she heard. "It was...delicious? Pinkie rushed back down from the stage to Trixie and yelled, "Uhuh! I don't know what you did, but that cupcake mix was some of the best I've ever tasted! Every cupcake here is made from your mix, and by the looks of it, everypony here is enjoying them!" Pinkie pointed to the concession table where a couple of stallions were enjoying the very cupcakes Pinkie was talking about. Trixie couldn't believe it. She actually made something good? Regardless, Rarity continued on with the explanation. "After Pinkie told me her story, I began telling her about how much fun it was to get to know you when we were creating a dress together. I also told her about how a certain little purple dragon was rude to you. Which reminds me... Spike..." A few seconds went by, and through a few ponies legs, came the very little dragon that they were speaking of. He had his head down in shame, and walked up next to Rarity. "Spike, is there something you would like to say to Trixie?" Spike just kept looking down. A frustrated white furred pony gave a light hit on of Spike's noggin, making him jolt up. Rubbing his head, Spike said, "S-Sorry about yelling at you earlier Trixie. I-I had no idea that you were trying to change, and I should've asked Twilight about it earlier, but I just assumed that you were still the same Trixie that, you know, tried to take us out before. If it's means anything to you, I hope you can forgive me." Trixie couldn't help but smile at the innocent little dragon in front of her. He was cute sleeping, he's cute apologizing. "It's okay Spike, I can tell you were only trying to defend what's important to you." She smiled at Rarity after saying that, making her slight blush. She tried to play it off and continued. "Y-Yes, well... A-After we discussed your success with cupcakes, I decided to finish what we started and, while taking quite some time, I managed to finish the dress using your ideas we discussed earlier." Rarity used her magic to grab the present sitting next to her and gave it to Trixie. "Here you go, Trixie. And don't worry, I'm not charging you for it. Our new found friendship is more than enough for me." Trixie felt so moved by Rarity's words, so mush so, she almost teared right there and then, but she held it in, and gave Rarity a heart warming hug. "G-Gee, I don't know what to say..." "Good! Because we're not done yet!" Yelled Pinkie. "What else could their be?" thought Trixie. "When me and Rarity were done talking about our day with you, we stopped by Fluttershy's to see how you did with her animals!" The light blue pony knew this would be the part where nothing positive could come out of it. To continue the story, Fluttershy flew out of the crowd and landed in front of Trixie. "H-Hi Trixie. It is true that they swung by my home after you left, and I told them about how you tried to save the beavers' dam, and about how you and Discord acted quick to make my little bunnies come back home when I wasn't around." "B-But, the dam... I couldn't save it, and it was all my fault..." "Oh, but you did do something right Trixie." "...I did?" "Yes. Sure, the dam did break apart, but because you acted quick and stopped the dam with that old rope you found, the beavers learned from your actions, and used some thicker ropes from my home to help make the dam stronger than ever. Here, I have a photo. Take a look." Fluttershy showed the photo to Trixie, and like she said, the beavers were on top of the dam that was rebuilt with three large ropes wrapped around the stems and branches that Trixie gave the beavers earlier in the day. "That was very quick thinking to use a rope to stop the dam breaking Trixie, and now look. Even when you thought you failed, you still succeeded," said Rarity. Trixie smiled knowing that the beavers where able to fix the dam using her idea for a rope to enforce it. Yet, even though it turned out that she did some good out of her mistakes, she knew there was still one pony that she just felt like she didn't do anything right with. There didn't seem to be any sign of that pony either, so that just seemed to enforce that idea. But then, a familiar voice was heard. "I guess this is the part where I come in..." Trixie turned to see the very pony she was just thinking about... Applejack. Applejack slowly made her way into the circle, but not without a few glares thrown her way. Applejack looked over to Twilight who was giving her the biggest glare of them all. Applejack couldn't blame them though, especially after happened back at the farm. She could only hope that she could explain herself before being ridiculed by everypony. She took her hat off, rubbing the edge of it with her hoof, and began to talk to Trixie "I suppose I should explain myself... After they were done at Fluttershy's, they swung by Sweet Apple Acres after you ran off. I told them how I treated you, and then of course.. How I... Broke your locket." Rainbow Dash felt like interrupting, because even though it was Applejack that grabbed the locket, she felt had she not hit Applejack's hoof so hard, then maybe it wouldn't have fallen. "Well it would've never fallen if I hadn't hi-" "It's okay sugarcube. It was my fault, not yours..." The rainbow haired pony nodded and stepped back. "That locket is somethin' that was obviously very personal to you, and I should've never tried to take it away like that from you. I know that everypony here isn't really happy with me because of what I did, and I'm not happy about what I did either, and well... it... it was just plain wrong of me." Trixie was stunned by how sentimental AppleJack was being with her. This was certainly a side Trixie had never seen before. "I should've given you a chance, and not stomp all over you like an old cowpie. so I'm sorry Trixie, and I hope you can accept my apology." "Well..." "Wait! Before you answer, there is one thing I want to give to you before you answer. I know I might seem like the best pony right now, but I got you something... Consider it a thank you for saving me from the pile of apples earlier..." Applejack moved to reveal the big red stallion that was farming the field earlier and what he was carrying into the castle was what looked like a brand new carriage. Only... it wasn't an ordinary carriage. It was a carriage that was built just like Trixie's old home. Trixie mouth suddenly dropped. The carriage was almost an exact replica of her old home. The one she had to sell just to survive. IT was like she never sold it. "I-Is that...for me?" The Red Stallion simply answered, "EEYUP." "Do you like it? I remembered you tellin' us that you sold your old home carriage, so I figured that for my bad actions, I would get my brother, Big Mac, and my sister, Applebloom, to help me out buildin' you a new home to stay in. We even made it more spacious so you would be more comfortable. It's the least I can do after what I did to you." Trixie wasn't the only one surprised. Everypony was shocked at Applejack's act of kindness. Twilight's glare soon turned into a smile at what Applejack did for Trixie. Applejack turned around to look at Trixie again, but was quickly wrapped in a hug by Trixie before she could say anything else. Trixie couldn't hold back a few tears of joy for what Applejack gave her. "Thank you... Thank you so much Applejack! You have no idea how much this means to me. Of course I'll forgive you!" Said a joyful Trixie. "You're welcome. You taught me a valuable that no matter who you are or what you did, everypony deserves a second chance.. Well, third chance technically, but still..." Even with the one pony who didn't trust her the most, Trixie was able to make change even when she didn't realize it, and yet, she was still confused on one thing. "I mean, this is just all so touching and wonderful, but, there is still one thing I just don't understand. Why is everypony else happy I'm here? I didn't do anything good for them." That's when a young voice came from the crowd and said, "Yes you did!" Trixie looked in the direction where the voice came from. What come out of the crowd, was a Filly. It was the same filly from earlier in the day. "You helped me with my kite. Remember?" said the little Filly. Trixie was instantly reminded what exactly happened. The poor filly crying. Using her magic to get it out of the tree. Seing that bright smile on the Filly's face when she put a magic spell on the kite. She remembered it all. "I showed all of my friends how cool my new magical kite was! We all went and told our parents, and they told their friends, and so on and so forth! Everypony knows what you did for me miss Trixie!" "We were also a big part by telling everypony about your day with each of us," said Rarity. Fluttershy included, "Everyone minds changed quick about you, and soon, ponies in all of Ponyville started talking about you in a positive way." Trixie began to blush from kindness given to her from everypony. The little Filly walked up to Trixie and grabbed the same leg she hugged earlier. Trixie returned the hug with a smile on her face. "Thank you miss Trixie. You're the nicest pony ever." "Y-Your welcome little Filly." After a few more heart warming seconds, Pinkie got back on the microphone at the DJ booth. "Let's give a round of applause to the most super duper pony out there, Trixie!" The crowd of ponies stomped their hooves, and Trixie felt like she was completely free of any negativity she had brought the residence of Ponyville and her six new friends. "Now let's get this party back rolling huh?!? Kick it Vinyl!" "Uhh.. Pinkie?" "Yes?" "It's uh.. The beats aren't coming back on." "What do you mean they're not?!?" "I-I don't know. I'll need a couple of minutes to figure it out. IT shouldn't be too long." "But the entertainment! We can't have a party without ENTERTAINMENT!!!!" All of the ponies were waiting for the music to come back on, but still, no music was playing. "Uh, hehe, just one moment everypony, DJ-Pone should have it fixed in a second, ahehe, hehe." Trixie began to feel bad about what was happening "Oh I wish there was something I could do." That's when the little filly standing next to her spoke up. "I know what you can do miss Trixie! You can do a magic show! Me and my friends would love to see it, and that way, you can buy them some time!" "Oh no, I-I couldn't..." The little filly grabbed her leg and and asked, "Pretty please?" It would certainly help, but Trixie wasn't sure. The whole reason she got into trouble in the first place was because of her magic tricks. What if would happen again. "I-I don't know, my magic has caused nothing but trou-" Before she could finish her sentence, Twilight interrupted her. "What you did was in the past, Trixie. Even with your mistakes, you made a difference, to all of us, and now, everypony in Ponyville see's you as a new pony. There's no reason to hide from what you know you are the best at doing." Twilight used her magic to grab Trixie's hat from Rarity's opened present she brought and placed it on Trixie's head. "It's like what your mother said in your locket, 'Be the magical pony you know you are, Trixie'." A single tear ran down Trixie's face as she smiled at what Twilight just said to her. Her mother always did tell her to be the best magical pony out there, but it in this moment that she finally realized it. She didn't need to cook, or create dresses, or care for animals, or buck apples just to make it up to become better. All she ever needed was strength, a determining spirit, the will to change, and of course, love. She hadn't had the last one on that list for so long, but now, she finally has it again, through her new found friends. She smiled and looked back down at the little Filly. "Alright... Trixie shall do it." Rainbow Dash shouted, "Trixie? Which Trixie?!?" Trixie gave a big smile and tilted her wizard hat up and got on her hind legs. "The GREAT and POWERFUL Trixie!" Everypony began stomping their hooves in excitement for Trixie's magic show. "There is one more thing I forgot to mention Trixie," said Rarity. Rarity used her magic to grab some items from a box behind the stage curtain. The items turned out to be a bunch of Wizard hats, and cape, made the same way Trixie's were, but had the deigns of each of the six ponies she now calls friends. Each of the ponies put theirs on. "Just A little something I whipped up while finishing your dress. I hope you don't mind if we share a little magical spirit with you." Trixie just shook her head and said, "Not at all!" They hugged Trixie, and Trixie immediately hopped onto the stage. "Prepare to witness and be amazed by the magic and tricks of the Great and Powerful Trixie!" The little Filly and her friends sat up front to watch the show, with every other pony watching behind them. Trixie began doing her magic tricks and with each trick she did, the Filly's became more amazed, and smiled out of pure joy from watching Trixie perform. Even the pony's who had seen the same tricks from before were still amazed by Trixie's magic tricks and stomped in appreciation. Trixie never felt so wanted and cared for in her life. Trixie finally realized that she was meant to do magic all along. No matter how hard she tried, nothing else would fill the hole that Trixie took magic out of. It seems it is destiny for her to become the best Magical pony is all of Equestria, just like her father was. No matter what anypony thought of her, she would keep her head held up high, knowing that she is doing something that makes her happy... Just like her mother. She knows that her parents would be proud of her right now. Trixie ended the show with a magical firework display, and everypony went wild and cheered for her. Trixie bowed, and smiled the biggest smile she had ever smiled. She was finally a "Somepony." The six ponies joined her on stage and gave her congrats and hugged her for her outstanding performance. Trixie looked at Twilight and said, "Thank you, Twilight... For having the faith in me to prove to you, Pinkie, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Applejack, Rarity, and everypony in Ponyville that I have changed for the better. "You're welcome, Trixie. I don't think there's any doubt about you being good anymore." Vinyl hopped back from behind the DJ booth and called Pinkie Pie over. "Alright Pinkie, we're good to go!" "ALRIGHT!!! LET'S GET THE MUSIC PUMPING UP AGAIN!!! HIT IT VINYL!" Vinyl Scratch put her shades back on and began the beats again, continuing the dance party. Everypony in Ponyville danced for the rest of the night and had a great time, but nopony was smiling bigger and having as much fun than Trixie, not even Pinkie, and that's hard to do. By midnight, the party had ended, and everypony said their goodbye's to the six magical ponies, and Trixie. Trixie was actually approached by some families in hopes of having Trixie perform at their Filly's birthday parties, and Trixie happily accepted every family's offer. Once everypony was gone, Trixie turned back to the other six ponies. They were all pooped, so Trixie figured that she would say this while they were still conscious. "Thank you all again... For everything. Without any of you, I don't think I would ever have redeemed myself and become the pony I am now." Twilight asked, "I think we should thank you, Trixie All in all, it was you who showed us that anyone can change if they put their mind to it. I think I speak for all of us when I say you are more than welcomed back to us. You're now our friend." The other five ponies agreed with Twilight, making Trixie feel very appreciated. "Thank you." "So where will you go?" "Hmm... I'm not sure. I might travel again someday, but I have grown such a connection with you all and Ponyville, that I think I'm going to stay in my new home carriage here. This place could use a few tricks here and there if I do say so myself. It also seems a lot of ponies want me to perform for them here, and you all are here as well. I'm not going to leave my new friends anytime soon." "You know, you're more than welcomed to stay in the castle for tonight." "Hmm... Okay. but only if you all are here aswell." Rainbow Dash flew into the air and shouted, "SWEET! SLEEPOVER!" The rest of the ponies just laughed and gave each other a big hug. For the rest of the night, they had fun, told stories, and had the best time only friends could have. The next morning, Trixie's carriage was waiting outside the Castle stairs, and she was ready to take off, but not without giving a final goodbye to her new found friends. "Feel free to visit us anytime," said Twilight. "Yes! We absolutely must have lunch again Trixie!" "You can always feel free to stop by my place and help with the animals anytime you like." "And If you ever need apples, I'm always buckin' sugarcube." "CALL ME IF YOU EVER NEED HELP WITH PARTIES TRIXIE!!!!!!" Trixie was sad to leave her friends, but she gave one last hug, and a wave goodbye until the next time they would see each other. The castle doors closed behind Trixie, and Trixie took a deep breath. "Now, I know who I am. Now I know what to do. I am Trixie...the great and powerful Trixie." As Trixie was about to move her carriage, she heard a familiar young voice calling for her. "Wait! Miss Trixie!" Sure enough, it was the same young Filly from last night. Trixie replied, "Yes? What is it?" "Miss Trixie. After watching you last night, I know exactly what I want to do when I grow up!" "Oh? And what is that?" "I want to be a magician! Just like you!" Trixie was silent for a moment and just smiled, thinking back to how she said the exact same thing to her mother all those years ago. It reminded her of her locket, and when she went to grab it, she was shocked at what she saw. The locket was no longer broken. It was as if the locket never snapped in half. How was this even possible? Somehow though, Trixie wasn't freaked out, but just happy. Trixie just looked up to the distance and said, "I guess he really was magical. Now I see why you loved him mother." The little Filly looked confused. "Who are you talking to Ms. Trixie?" Trixie just smiled and looked down at the Filly. "Nothing," She said, "I think you will make a great magical pony." The little Filly smiled and asked, "Really?!? You really think I can be a great and powerful magician too?" "Sure you can! But first, you'll need a great and powerful hat and cape." Trixie took off her hat and cape and placed them unto the little Filly. She couldn't help but be overwhelmed with joy and hugged Trixie's leg, and of course Trixie hugged back. Trixie began to pull the Home Carriage to a place she felt she would feel most comfortable in Ponyville, and the Little Filly followed right next to her. "So, my little Filly... what magic trick would you like to learn first?" As she was pulling away, Two ghostly figures stood behind her and watched Trixie slowly disappear around the corner of a home. "She certainly has your determination, Harry." "Yes, but she has your will and strength, honey." "I'm just so happy that she is finally doing what she loves most." "Hmhmhm...Me too... Me too." They embraced one another and, together, said, "We love you, and we will always be with you no matter what... Never change who you are... Our...Little...Trixie." THE END
