> Oh, Sweet Silence > by ShylyGirl > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Chapter 1: Cold > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was a blustering and snowy morning, and Fluttershy was all bundled up, ready to take exit of her safe, warm, cabin. Angel bunny sat on the green couch, covered by a warm blanket, and left with a basket of carrots. The bunny began to gesture to Fluttershy, making her know that he had everything under control, and that she could leave. "Oh, ok Angel, I'll be going then." She whispered. "Don't be worried, I'll only be gone until six." Angel waved an eager goodbye , while smiling a very insincere smile. Fluttershy sighed, and stepped out into the cold and windy outdoors. Fluttershy had recently received a letter from her dear friend Twilight Sparkle, in which it asked her to come over to the library. Thats all the letter said. Fluttershy didn't know why Twilight wanted her to come over, but whatever it was must have been exciting and important. But, why hadn't she just talked to her in person? They were great friends after all... The winds were blowing at high speeds and snow blinded the yellow pegasus. She would not be able to fly in conditions like this, so she had to resort to walking, which she was more stable doing. Everything around her was as white as Angel's fur, but as cold as a Crystal Ghost's presences. She was defend by the howling winds in her ear, yet she swore that she heard someone call out her name. When she looked around, there was no-pony to be seen. After what felt to be an eternity of trotting through snow, Fluttershy finally saw the outline of what looked to be the library, but it looked more like a vanilla frosting covered one... Fluttershy walked up to the red door and began to knock. No answer. Minutes, maybe hours went by while she wait for someone to answer. Her legs were buried under snow, and even with all the layers she had on, she was beginning to freeze. Finally, after a long wait, Twilight opened the door. The lilac purple mare had one of the widest and creepiest smiles ever. "Hey, Fluttershy!" she gigglishly exclaimed. 'Hi Twilight... what took you so long?" "Oh, I couldn't hear you knocking, hehehe. The winds pretty loud!" She giggled. Fluttershy didn't laugh, she had been freezing her flank off in the snow, and had been kind enough to have stayed and waited instead of leaving and going back home. "Come on in Fluttershy...hehehe, I got a lot planned." End of Chapter 1 > Chapter 2: Sitting > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fluttershy walked into the warm library, breathing in the smell of old paper and leather binding. As soon as she walked into the front hall, she felt her body begin to thaw off. It felt nice being all warm and toasty, instead of being a pony-popsical like she was becoming outside. "Ok Fluttershy, what I need you to do is stand here and watch Owlicious. Its not hard. Plus, you love animals!" She exclaimed. "Hehehe... can you do that?" Fluttershy smiled. Twilight was right, and Owlicious was a wonderful pet to take care of, she never need much attention, and slept most of the time. Fluttershy would watch her anytime. "I'm just having a guest over to help me with some organization." Twilight mentioned. "I could help with that..." "Oh, no silly, hehe, your watching my owl!" Fluttershy shrugged and walked over and sat on the wooden stool next to Owlicious's stand. The brown owl was already sitting on the stand, sound asleep. Twilight sat across the room, reading a book like she normally did. Fluttershy grabbed a random book off the shelf behind her. The dusty leather cover read the faded black words "Pony Sociology", and from what she could see, many pages were ripped out. But, from the pages that were not torn out, Fluttershy could see writing in all of the page's margins. She didn't take the time to read the writing, but the pegasus four this situation very peculiar. Minutes passed, and Fluttershy suddenly felt that someone was watching her. She looked at Owlicious, only to see the owl in deep sleep. The only other being in the room was Twilight. Fluttershy looked up, only to see the purple mare with her nose in a book. But, Fluttershy swore to herself that she saw the unicorn's eyes staring at her for just a split second. More time passed. Fluttershy had to do something, anything to break the silence. She could not take sitting and doing completely nothing forever. She looked around the room and observed her surroundings. Everything was in its place, all tidy and orderly. But, something was missing... Spike. Fluttershy coughed to get the unicorns attention. Twilight looked up from her book, eyes fixated on her friend, a smile growing on her face. "You okay Fluttershy?" She whistled through her teeth, never letting her smile fade. "Oh, nothing" "Oh, okay." Twilight went back to her book. "Actually, um, I was wondering... wheres Spike? Twilight stared up from her book. "Oh, hehehe, he was snowed in over at Rarity's." "Oh..." Fluttershy responded. I bet he's happy about that! she thought. There was a knock at the door. Twilight levitated her book onto the correct shelf, and stepped towards the door. Fluttershy wondered why Twilight would need an assistant to organize book, if the library was already so neat... perhaps some new books came in... Caramel walked in the door, dressed up in his snow gear. "Thank you for coming Caramel!" "No problem." The stallion looked around the room. Confusion showed in his eyes, Fluttershy guessed he was wondering where the books they were going to organize were as well. "Follow me Caramel," Twilight beckoned to the tan pony. "Uh, ok. Where are the books?" "I said FOLLOW me..." Twilight preached. Twilight walked up the staircase up into her bedroom. Caramel showed an expression that seemed even more confused then before. Twilight then used her magic to levitate the bookshelf in her room away from the wall. Behind it revealed a ladder that, from what Fluttershy could observe from her position, went below ground... End of Chapter 2 > Chapter 3: Alone with My Woes > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight turned to Carmel, who only showed concern on what was going on. Twilight smiled. "Oh, don't worry! This is just the way to the basement, and thats where all the unorganized books are stored. I'm hoping to move them up here..." "Oh ok..." Twilight swung her head towards the door, ushering Caramel to head on down. The stallion walked toward the ladder, placed his back hooves on one of the lower rungs, then continued to climb down the ladder. Twilight turned around and faced Fluttershy. "We'll just be down stairs sorting the books, and before you know it, we'll be up here putting them on the shelfs!" "Okay Twilight," Twilight proceeded to climb down the ladder and into the basement. Once far enough down the ladder, the bookshelf started to slowly move back into place. Fluttershy sighed. "Now what..." Fluttershy whispered. The pegasus looked around the room, nothing sparked her interest, and there was no one to talked to. Fluttershy tapped Owlicious on the shoulder to try and wake him, but he did not respond to the touch. Fluttershy sunk into a deep feeling of boredom. Slowly, overtime, Fluttershy started to doze off. The sound of the howling wind and snow hitting the tree was like her lullaby to help her sleep. After maybe a half hour of napping, Fluttershy was suddenly awakened by a thud coming from down in the basement. She was frightened for a moment, but then started to wonder what had made the noise. I wonder whats going on... Fluttershy thought. Thud after thud, Fluttershy flew up onto Twilight's loft and started to try and pull out the bookcase. Fluttershy was able to create a small gap between the wall and the bookshelf. She landed herself on the ground and walked towards the crack in the wall. "Is everything alright down there?" It took a minute or two for somepony to respond. But, soon Fluttershy heard a trotting sound, when in an instant Twilight called up. "Oh, every things okay. Caramel's just being a goof and dropping all the books." She answered with a sigh. "I see. Twilight, if you need any help I'm always here." "Don't worry, we've git everything under control! Hehehe" There was a echo, but muffed yell from down in the basement. "Oh, uh, Caramel needs some help with something." Twilight monotonely said. "I'll talk to you later then..." Fluttershy sighed. "I'm coming Caramel!" Twilight sang. Fluttershy sighed and returned back to her boring spot in the corner. Owlicious was still asleep, and Fluttershy knew that, in moment that was what she would be doing as well... End of chapter 3. > Chapter 4: Metal Bookshelf > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Her slumber was so peaceful. Her dreams consisted of visions of summer; sitting under a willow tree by the lake. Hanging out with her friends and drinking a cooling glass of lemonade. Her mind created a peaceful world where Applejack and Pinkie swam in the body of water, Rainbow dash rested her head up in a fluffily white cloud, Rarity sunbathed in the sun, and Fluttershy sat and admired the beauty of the moment. Twilight sat across the lake alone, just moving the sand around... what was on her mind? CRASH Fluttershy instantly woke up to the loud sound of something hitting the ground. Her heart was thumping and she felt a single sweat beed trickle down her head. What was that? "AAAAAHHHHH" That was Twilight, screaming. WHAT IS GOING ON?? Fluttershy's mind yelled. Fluttershy flew back up to the loft and pulled the bookshelf out of the way. Her heart was beating even faster than before. For a moment, she thought her heart would explode. "Twilight?" "FLUTTERSHY! Come down here, ohmygosh... Heeelp!" "Oh my goodness... okay I'm on my way down..." Fluttershy flew down the passage and into a dark hallway. At first she could not see anything, but after opening a door, she could see the gruesome situation in front of her. The two ponies were smashed under a bookshelf that must had fallen from the wall. Twilight only had her back hove stuck under it, but Caramel lied lifeless under the bookshelf. Twilight weeped quietly on the floor where she lied. "Thank you, thank you... for not leaving, I had though you would only be here to watch Owlicious, but..." Twiliht began to cry again. "Thank you," Fluttershy began to tear up a bit. "Why don't you try and levitate the shelf..." Fluttershy weeped. "Its, its... to heavy! I tried." "Okay, um, give me your hoove." The purple mare raised her hoove. Fluttershy took hold of it and began to pull, and little by little the unicorn's leg began to slide out from under the shelf. "Oh, thank you... go get Caramel..." Twilight cried. "Oh my leg..." Fluttershy quickly walked over to the crushed stallion. A pool of blood had formed around around his mouth. Fluttershy cringed when she saw a pink thing that looked like a lung sticking out of his mouth. His eyes where glazed over and looked like the white snow outside. There were a huge gash on his back where the bookshelf hit, it had completely shaped his spine and had ripped through most of his flesh. Fluttershy felt something in her throat, it was slowly rising higher and closer into her mouth. She quickly ran over to the corner of the room and vomited. Chunks of grass salad and apples pooled up on the floor. After all food had left her system, stomach acid was the only thing that came out of her mouth. Twilight lied on the ground quivering... Her leg was covered in blood and veins were sticking out everywhere. Blood was spilling everywhere, and so Fluttershy would have to act fast. "I-I'll go upstairs and get bandaids and towels..." She quivered as she spoke. The pegasus flew upstairs and into the small kitchen in the library. Twilight had always kept bandaids around a since clumsy ponys got paper cuts on the books. Fluttershy grabbed the entire first aid kit incase of an infection. On her way out she quickly swiped the paper towel. Once she had returned downstairs Twilight was weeping once again. "This is all my fault... all my fault..." Fluttershy had began to wrap up Twilights smashed leg. The unicorn screeched each time Fluttershy had to lift her leg and wrap the gaze around. "Ok, all done..." Fluttershy looked back up at Twilight. "What do you mean this is your fault?" " I-I was placing some books on the shelf and it just fell over. I had no time to tell him to get of the way..." "We should get the body out of here then." Twilight tried to stand up. She could not put to much weight on her injured leg, so she only stood on three... End of chapter 3. > Chapter 5: Outside > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight slowly trotted over to where Fluttershy was standing. The two mares were standing before a grayed stallion, both ponies gritted their teeth in fear. The pony that laid before them, just only hours ago was happily helping Twilight organize old dusty novels. Now he lay limp on the floor, his body was snapped in half. Twilight winced at the thought of having to pick up the bookshelf and see what the rest of the stallion's body looked like. Fluttershy eyes were full of tears. The though of having to explain to everypony where Carmel had gone. What will we do... Her mind resorted to some of the worst places, thoughts of banishment from Equestria stuck out like a sore thumb. She was an accessory to a murder. Twilight was a murder, maybe not a murder, but she would be accused of pony slaughter. Fluttershy looked to her friend. Twilight's expression was a mix between horror and anger, but overall she showed guilt. "... I'll help pull the bookshelf if you would please levitate it at the same time, maybe?" Fluttershy whispered as she examined how heavy the shelves would be. " Yes, I'll count to three and we'll pull it back into place." Fluttershy flew just above the bookshelf and had got a good grip on it by the time Twilight counted, "One, Two... THREE!" All around the bookcase, a purply-pink glow formed. The two struggled, but slowly stood the shelf back up into the middle of the room. Beneath the towering wall was a gruesome sight. Caramel's lower half was crushed and sandwiched against the floor. Fluttershy gagged at the sight of his lower intestines, which were cut in half and were leaking fluids all over the floor. Twilight swallowed and breathed heavily. She then turned to the pegasus, and began to state her next plan of action. "Were going to bury him in the snow." "What?!?" "You heard me, we're going to go out there, get as far away from the library as possible and bury his in the snow. Simple as that, no one will know...." Her words trailed off into mumbles, and her expression was lifeless. Fluttershy thought about the plan for a moment. It at first seemed dumb, but with planning and good teamwork, it could be possible. "Lets just go upstairs for now." Twilight advised. "Yeah, I'll sow up your leg." Fluttershy offered, looking at the shredded up leg. Fluttershy picked up Twilight and flew her up stairs.... End of chapter 5
