> To be Adored > by jidbrony > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Prologue > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The moon was bright and the night was young, a few people were taking a night stroll while others used the occasion to woo their lovers by going to Lovers Peek a place where all young loves headed to make their move. However tonight was different, for some reason every couple who was at Lovers Peek was raging with one another. People bickered and complained about all sorts of things. "You talk too much." "You're too picky." "You're fat!" All the while unbeknownst to them a strange green mist formed and slid all the way to a top a tree where three girls their faces covered by hoodies sang a enchanting tune. " Ah, ah, ah... Ah ah ...ah ah ah , ah ah." Suddenly the green mist was sucked into their red pendants that they wore around their necks. Once it disappeared the girl in the middle grinned with delight. "Good job girls, we're done for tonight." The three of them jumped off the trees and headed out. As they took off into the town they removed their hoods to reveal quite outlandish hair styles. The purple one had purple hair with green highlights wrapped in pigtails with star clips on each side. The other was blue with blue hair wrapped in a ponytail. Finally the third one and leader of the group who was a dark yellow had big puffy hair and a spike headband that was purple. These three were Aria Blaze, Sonata Dusk and Adagio Dazzle, the Sirens of Equestria. "Ugh, that was barely anything Adagio." Aria groaned. "Better than last time." Adagio said looking at her pendant as it glimmered a bit. "I was satisfied." Sonata said cheerfully. "That's because you're the worst." Aria proclaimed. "No you are!" "No you!" "No you!" "Enough!" Adagio shouted. "You two are both idiots and you know it!" "She started it." Sonata said. "I don't care this has been going on for thousands of years. Every day it's the same thing! You're the worse no you, no you, when will it ever end!" "When Sonata's no longer the worst." Aria replied. "Well as Queen of the Sirens I decree.. "Ha! Queen of the Sirens, you're not Queen, that just one of those stupid titles you love giving yourself to make you feel important," Adagio gritted her teeth. "Why you little... "Girls!" Sonata cried out. "I found something." Adagio and Aria turned around to see Sonata in a alley way looking at something. They walked up to her curious but annoyed. "This better be good." Aria groaned. "Okay." Adagio moaned hoping it wasn't something to stupid unlike last time when she found a penny. "It's a basket." Sonata said picking it up and holding it up to show Adagio and Aria. Who exchanged looks of annoyance. "A basket, really Sonata, you're fascinated by a basket!" Adagio yelled. "Well...it's a heavy basket." Sonata said "I don't care!" Adagio grabbed the basket from Sonata. "Of all the stupid things you've been interested in this has to be the pathetic thing you've ever...!" Suddenly a loud crying came. "Oh great, you made her cry glorious. Going to have put up with this for the next five hours" Aria groaned. "That's not me...for once." Sonata said. "It's coming from the basket." Slowly all three closed in on the basket on noticed the blanket inside was ruffling. "What's in there Dagi." Aria said sounding confused. “Is it a ghost?!” Sonata screamed “Ugh...No Sonata, it’s not a ghost.” Adagio groaned, amazed by her friends stupidity. Slowly Adagio began to remove the blanket from the basket as she began to see a small pair of feet and then a leg then another leg. "Uh... Adagio, is that what I think it is." Aria said almost sounding scared of what she began to see. "It's...it's..." "A baby!" Sonata screamed in delight jumping up and down. "It's soooo cute!" "And loud!" Aria said, plugging her ears. "The baby kept crying for a few more seconds until it opened its eyes to look up at a very confused Adagio. Suddenly, it smiled and looked right back at her, and reached his tiny hand out to her try to touch her nose." "Aw he likes you Dagi." Sonata. "He thinks you're his mommy." Suddenly Adagio snapped out of her confused trance and came back to her senses. "WHAT?!" "Can we keep him?" Sonata asked. "Sonata, this isn't a puppy." Aria explained. "It's an annoying...thing." "But it's all alone. Just like us." Sonata reasoned. "Plus it likes Adagio." The baby continued it grab Adagio's face. "No!" Adagio. "We are not taking in a baby! You know I hate children." "Come on! You call me a baby." Sonata said. "Yes BUT you aren't one'!" Adagio replied. "Come on!" "No!" "Com on" "Come on!" "For the last time we're not taking the baby home with us and that's FINAL!” > Chapter 1 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 1 "I can't believe he's coming home with us." Aria groaned as she Sonata and Adagio entered their house feeling the nice cold air blowing on their face. "Oh come on Aria. We couldn't just have him freeze to death or get eaten by wolves or, or have the boogy man take him." "Sonata! Shh!" Adagio said looking at the basket. "He's asleep again." Aria and Sonata looked into the basket to see the tiny baby wrapped up in a blanket his eyes closes tight as he slept peacefully without a care in the world. "Aw!" Sonata exclaimed gushing over the cuteness. "Did you do this Dagi?" Adagio blinked as she seemed at a loss for words. "Well...um....I just uh, you know, sang him a tune on the way home." She finally said as she looked down at her pendant. "You...uh...you know." Sonata asked looking a bit worried. "What! No! Apparently he had no negative feelings. Sadly." "Well at least you got the twerp to shut up." Aria replied. Adagio put the basket down on the coffee table as she sat down on the couch Aria and Sonata sitting right next to her. Adagio took a deep breath before she spoke. "Ok, what are we going to do about our...problem." "Don't you mean our little..." Adagio glared at Sonata before she could finish her sentence, "....shutting up." Adagio took a deep breath again as looked at the basket. "Ok let's review. We found a basket, it has a baby, and Sonata insisted we take it home with us." "We're not keeping it our we." Aria asked. "Of course not!" Adagio blurted out. "Aw how come." Sonata groaned. Adagio rubbed her forehead at the stupidity of the question. "Sonata...this isn't a puppy, or a cat, or a stupid bunny. This is a child, a...human...it's way more complex than a animal." "But you said humans are animals." "Well...yes, compared to superior creatures like us." "Then if humans are animals then what does that make animals." "Stupid." Aria replied. "Hey!" Suddenly the sound of wailing cries was heard, coming out from the basket again, even louder than the last time. “Oh great, you woke the kid again!” Adagio yelled. “Did not!” Sonata insisted. “Did too.” Aria replied. “Did not.” “Too.” “Not.” “Too.” Adagio couldn’t take the bickering, she found a book that was sitting right next to the basket, it seemed heavy enough. She grabbed the book and in the blink of eye smacked it on both Sonata’s and Aria’s head, causing them intense pain. “Ouchie!” “What the heck Adagio.” Aria yelled rubbing her head. While Aria and Sonata were in pain the baby seemed to enjoy it his crying suddenly switched to cute giggling and laughing. A small smile appeared on Adagio’s face. “Well, it’s good to see someone else enjoys your pain.” Suddenly she snapped back to serious mood. “But we still have to think of what we do.” “Simple, we dump him off at an orphanage.” Aria stated blunted. “Done deal.” “We can’t!” Sonata argued. “He’s too cute to leave at a dump like that.” “Hey, orphanages aren’t that bad, you’ve been watching too much T.V” Aria argued. “I still say we keep him.” Sonata argued. “No way.” “Problem!” Adagio interrupted stopping another argument before it could take sew. “The only orphanage in outside of town and I don’t want to go all the way down there in the middle of night.” “Then will just go tomorrow then.” Aria. “The city is a ten hour drive.” Adagio proclaimed. “And we don’t have a car.” “I still don’t understand why, we can just sing and get our licenses that way.” Aria said. “I love driving!” Sonata said as she was now pretending to drive, making driving sounds and noises. “That’s why.” Adagio replied. “Well then we just get our licenses and leave dumb brain out of it.” “And constantly hear Sonata say...I want a license, I want a license...why didn’t I get a license, now way!” Adagio decreeded. Aria groaned. “Fine...Will take the bus.” “Fine! Tomorrow will drop him off at the local orphanage in the city.” “So, what, kid’s going to sleep with us tonight.” “Afraid so.” “Yay! Can he sleep in my room!” Sonata said jumping up and down and started hugging a imaginary babies in her hands really hard. “I’ll hug him and cuddle him and name him George!” Adagio and Aria just look at Sonata with concern. Adagio then eyed Aria. “Hey aint sleeping in my room.” Aria then yawned as she headed off to bed, Adagio just stood there watching Sonata cuddle the imaginary baby. Suddenly the baby began to make noises as it once again looked up at Adagio and tried to reach out to her. “Aw it still likes you.” Sonata said as she picked up the baby to hand it Adagio. “Here...you take him. He wants to be with you more I think.” Adagio take a few steps back. “What, no! You know I hate children.” “But he’s a baby.” “No difference.” “Yeah, big difference, babies don’t talk, they cry.” “Exactly.” “Come on!” “No!” “Come on!” “No!” “COME OOOOOOONNNNNN!” “Okay, okay!” Adagio yelled taking the baby. “I can only deal with one annoying whine at a time, and you are the worse...Although.” Adagio grabbed the book again and hit Sonata on the head with it causing the baby to laugh. “At least I can do that to you.” “Okay…” Sonata then collapsed on the ground, she was out cold.” “Night Sonata.” With that she took the baby inside to her room after putting him inside his basket. Adagio Dazzle’s room was looked like a place where royalty would live, but in a miniature form. The curtains were pink and silk. The rug was again pink with yellow diamonds embedded in it and finally the Master Queen sized bed with silk drapes covered on it and lush fluffy pillows. As they entered the room Adagio looked down at the basket not sure what expression to make, one of anger, sorry, she didn’t really care. “Well you should consider yourself lucky. Not even the most dashing of stallions have entered the room of the Empress of Song herself.” Adagio boasted as she put the basket on her bed and picked up the baby and just looked at him. His big beaming eyes staring back at his trying to reach out to her. “Look, you're staying just this one night and then were shipping you off!” Adagio stated trying to keep her best game face on. However the baby was able to reach Adagio’s nose and touch it. The soft hand caused Adagio to shiver a bit. “Oh no you don’t….You're not letting your cuteness get to me, do you know who I am.” Adagio said, arguing with a baby as she put the baby down on the bed and looked at it angrily. “I am Adagio Dazzle, Queen of the Siren’s I was once the most powerful being in a land called Equestria! My power was unmatched by anyone!” The baby didn’t seem to care as it just kept smiling and it suddenly crawled up to her and hugged her his little head rubbing against her chest. “Ugh...stop. I once seduced a thousand stallions to build a golden monument of me in my honor.” She said resisting the hugs. Adagio crawled back causing her to fall off the bed causing the baby to giggle. Adagio groaned. “Oh ha, ha….laugh at my suffering now.” The baby just kept giggling, it didn’t have a care in the world, how could it was it was only a baby, it didn’t know any better it would have laughed at anything. “You’d find Aria funny if you just stared at her long enough.” Adagio said getting up and heading back on the bed. The little baby crawled back to her. “No...Stay.” She commanded. The baby continued to look up at her. Adagio scoffed. “Yeah...like I need your praise. I am siren, I can get anyone to adore me the mere sound of my voice.” However the baby kept crawling again to cuddle himself with Adagio causing her to shudder again. It was strange, this mere human child kept wanting to cling itself to Adagio, and it wasn’t even under her spell. Adagio inside started to warm up, and her heart beat fast, she didn’t know what this emotion was. However it caused Adagio to lose her fierce expression and actually smile. “You...uh...you actually like me don’t yuh.” The baby responded just by cuddling up to Adagio even harder. “Wow...uh...thanks...i guess.” Adagio said slowly putting her hand on the baby’s bald yet soft head and began to pet it. “I guess...uh...I guess you can stay here for tonight. But then tomorrow off you go!” She insisted, however by that time the baby was asleep. Seeing him sleep started to make Adagio’s eyes heavy as slowly she drifted off to sleep as well feeling the softness of her baby companion on her lap. She didn’t know why, but it made her happy. > Chapter 2 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 2 Morning arrived as the sun slowly came in through the window of Adagio’s room. For most of the night Adagio just slept in her hooded sweatshirt not even covered by the sheets as the baby they had found last night cuddled up against her. As the sun came into the room and hit Adagio’s eyes she slowly began to open them, they were still heavy by the sleep she need. She looked to her side to see the baby still sleeping holding on to Adagio with a small smile plastered on his face. Suddenly Adagio’s door burst open as Sonata came in, still wearing her pajamas and her blue hair all the way down. “MORNING!” she shouted. This caused Adagio to fully awaken. “Sonata! Don’t do that!” she yelled as she noticed Sonata carrying a tray. "Gives me margarines. Like everything else you do." “I made you breakfast in bed.” “Oh really...and why all of a sudden the urge for such generosity.” “Oh, no reason, oh and I have this.” Sonata pulled out a baby bottle with formula. “More breakfast.” She put the tray on the bed, Adagio looked at it’s concept, Pancakes, Egg’s, bacon, and orange juice for her then at Sonata who just had a big beaming smile on her face. “No!” “But...come on!” “Sonata! He’s not a puppy! Or a bunny!...He’s a child! We don’t have that kind of time, nor energy.” “Buy why!” Sonata said giving a big puppy dog face. “Because I said so!” “But look at him...he likes you!” Sonata said pointing to the baby, who continued to cuddle up to Adagio falling back to sleep. Adagio couldn’t help but smile a little bit, Sonata noticed. “See...see...you like him to!” “What...no...I uh….uh...like the smell of the food.” Adagio said as she took a piece of bacon and ate it. “See...food good.” “Yeah...Right.” Sonata said as she skipped out into the hallway. “Heh...Idiot.” Adagio said, she looked at the bottle, then at the baby. She scratched him on the head trying to wake him up, slowly he opened his eye and look up and see Adagio looking back at him a bit confused. She eyed the baby formula and then back at the baby. She picked him up and sat him on his lap. “I uh...guess you're hungry then.” Adagio picked up the bottle and handed it to the baby who began to suck the milk dry from it. “I’m hungry too. But in a different sort of way.” Adagio looked at her red pendant for a few seconds before looking back at the baby, who took his mouth out of the bottle. “DAGI! I CHECKED THE BUS SCHEDULE! IT FIRST BUS LEAVES NEXT HOUR!” Aria shouted from the living room. “FINE! I’ll get ready.” Adagio got up leaving the baby on the bed, and headed towards her closet. There were several dresses in their but most of them of the same purple spandex with puffy shoulders and giant pink boots design with two pink fingerless gloves for good measure. Finally Adagio put on the finish touch, her spiked head band. “There perfect.” Adagio admired herself in the mirror for a few seconds she turned to see the baby just looking at her with a smile. “What are you staring at.” she asked. Adagio stopped to look down at herself. “I know I’m good looking but please...decency.” The baby giggled, causing Adagio to lose her fierceness and smile a bit. “Yeah, yeah, you're aren’t the first, nor the last to admire this.” “Uh...Adagio.” She looked around to see Aria hanging outside, wearing her regular outfit of green jacket and ripped pants. “Are you talking to the kid.” “What!...No...Maybe.” “Whatever. Lets get going.” “Right. Right. I’ll be there in a minute.” Adagio headed back to the bed to pick up the baby and put her around her shoulder while she also picked up the basket with her free hand. Entering the living room she saw Sonata and Aria waiting for her, Sonata seeming particularly disappointed, Aria didn’t feel anything until she saw Adagio coming in. “Hey Dagi, are you...holding the kid.” “Yeah, so.” “What about the basket.” “Oh right.” Adagio tossed the basket to Sonata who caught. “You hold that Sonata.” “Got it!” Adagio used to her free to hold the baby more firmly in her arms, it coddled her while she did. “DAWWW!” “Ugh, you’ve been doing that since we found him, I can’t wait to get rid of him.” Aria said. “Are you really that cold.” Sonata said. “Me cold! I could name have the psychotic things you did back in Equestria.” Aria rebbutled. “Oh sure, you massacre a few grown ponies and try to eat them and that makes me the bad guy.” “Yeah and telling them to RUN YOUR MISERABLE MORTALS all the while.” “Oh please I only did that to full grown ponies...never fillies.” Aria facepalmed at her friends stupidity. “Girls! Enough!” Adagio shouted. “Come on. Lets get going.” The three of them headed outside to the nice warm sunny sky and headed to the local bus stop which was a few blocks away from their house. Adagio continued to hold the baby the whole way, Aria kept wondering why she didn’t put him back in the basket. Sonata meanwhile just had a stupid grin on her face. Finally the bus arrived and the three sirens began to board it. The three passed a few of the passengers who took little notice of them and found a seat on the back of the bus. “Finally just a few more hours and then were rid of the kid.” Aria said almost cheerfully “We only had him for one night.” Sonata said. “How can you hate something so cute in one night.” “Same way I hate you Sonata.” Aria said. “You don't hate...you LOVE me.” “Do not!” “Do too.” “Do not!” “Do to!’ “GIRLS!” Adagio shouted causing the baby to start crying. “Oh great not this again!” Aria said. “See Sonata is this what you want to subject yourself too.” “Well...he wouldn’t be that way all time.” “Ugh...whatever...lets see if I can feed off him.” Aria slowly closed in on the baby and ready her pendant but Adagio grabbed her by the throat before she could sing, with a scown on her face. “Don't you dare!” Adagio growled. “What...Why…not.” Aria said gagging for air. “Because I said so!” Adagio said tightening her grip on her fellow Siren. “And you will follow my lead! Right!” “Okay...Okay...I won’t feed.” Adagio let go of Aria as she finally started to gasp for air. However it didn’t stop the predicament that the baby still continued to cry. Adagio rejusted him so that she cradled him in her arms, but that still didn’t work. “Dagi Dagi...Trying singing him a lullaby. Like the one's mother used to sing to us when we were teeny ween sirens.” “What...I don’t know any lullabies.” Adagio. “Most of our songs are trying to get people to adore us not fall asleep.” “You said you sung him a tune last night.” Aria said plugging her ears. “Yeah, but that was just are normal spell, not a full on song.” Adagio replied. “We'll sing something.” Aria said. “The crying is giving me a headache. Just sing the one mother always used." “Fine, fine...but you two are joining in.” Adagio then looked down at the crying baby and began to sing a flawless tune. Adagio Rest now, my ocean bound. Lay down, and sleep. Rest now, and they will bow. And the oceans will rise. Sonata and Aria Oh Sirens of old. Oh Sirens of old. Bless us with your voice. Adagio Rest now, young siren, now. Lay down and sing Sing now, and then all will bow. They'll bow to you. Sonata and Aria Oh siren. Of old. Oh sirens. Of old. Bless us with your voice. “Look it’s working.” Sonata said as she noticed that the baby slowly drifting off to sleep. “Yeah it working to well. Look.” Aria pointed to everyone else drifting off to sleep, including the driver.” “UH OH!” Adagio said noticing her powers taking effect. “Don’t worry I got it.” Sonata got up and headed to driver seat and took control of the wheel. Adagio turned to Aria. “I know, I know...I know the drill.” After a few moments of trying to keep Sonata steady and not going nuts on the wheel the bus driver finally woke up Sonata was able to brush the whole thing under the rug. For the rst of the trip Adagio just watched as the baby slept in her arms, she didn’t even let him go, the more she watched the more she herself couldn’t help but get fascinated by him, so peaceful, so innocent, not a care in the world and the best part was it was in Adagio’s arms which he found peace.. Finally the three arrived in the city. They got off and began to walk down the street to the local orphanage. As the sirens arrived Adagio held the sleeping baby in her arms a bit tighter she never put him back in his basket. “Well we're here.” Sonata said sadly. “Finally, put him the basket and lets go, I saw a hockey game being played at the stadium in a few hours, perfect place to get some energy.” Aria replied licking her lips at the thought a decent power meal. Adagio looked up at the building that was the orphanage and then back at the baby. “Uh...yeah...here we go.” “Having doubts.” Sonata pointed out. “What! She better not!” Aria yelled. “I didn’t drive all the way on a stinky bus just to back out at the last second.” Adagio looked at the sleeping baby, so peaceful, so cute, just laying in her arms cuddling up against her. She started gritting her teeth seeming a bit conflicted, she loved this feeling but she couldn’t pinpoint what it exactly was still or why she felt it. But she loved it, she loved this feeling more than all the praise and adoration she felt from all her mind control slaves she had over the several millenium. “Come on Adagio let’s get the ball rolling.” Aria said. “I...I don’t know.” Aria and Sonata just looked at Adagio stunned, Aria mouth dangled for a few moments. “You’re joking.” “For realizies!” Sonata jumped for joy. “Adagio, you said it yourself this isn’t a puppy, or a pet. This is a little brat who… “He’s not a brat!” Adagio said tugging the baby closer to her. “He’s uh….uh… “A human for one thing.” Aria said. “He’s cute.” Sonata defended. “He’s a baby...babies are designed to be cute, never stopped me from hating them. But that’s not the point...you can’t possible be considering keeping it.” “It’s not like it has a home.” Adagio said looking at the baby actually smiling again. “Beside, we should allow him the honor of living with the sirens after all.” “Since when did you get all sweet and soft all of sudden.” Aria said. “You’re Adagio Dazzle, the terror of Equestria. So called Empress of Song. Which again...stupid title.” “Hey! I still hate this world and these humans. But I also hate you three too and I keep you around. Why I never know.” Adagio said as she started scratching the babies nose. “Aw, isn’t that precious.” Sonata said. “Don’t you start!” Aria said. “You’re only thinking of raising a bra…” Adagio glared at her before she could finish the word, “...baby. Especially after one night, heck, only a couple of hours.” “I don’t know okay...but...come on! He likes me.” Adagio said smiling. “He’s not even under my spell, oh sure I sang to him but just to get to sleep, nothing else.” “Big whoop he likes yuh.” Aria said. “So what, any of these shmucks like you, every time we show our stuff around town.” “Yes but not like that. He’s special.” “So are we keeping him?” Sonata asked sounding desperate. Adagio takes one more look at the orphanage and then back at the baby in her arms. “Yes...we are.” “WHAT!” “YAY! We’re mothers!” “Actually no!” Adagio interrupted. “I’m the mother, you two are the idiot aunts.” “YAY I’m a Aunt. Wait I’m an aunt...what if I get squished. I DONT WANT TO GET SQUISHED!!!” “Wrong kind of ant! Idiot!” “Is not!” “Is too.” “Is not!’ “Is too.” “Girls!” “Sorry!” “So since there are no objections to my decision I will… “I object.” Aria spat. However Adagio only replied by using her free arm to grab Aria by the throat and slowly gag her causing her to turn a deeper shade of purple. “Again...as I was saying...since there are no objections….lets start shopping for baby supplies.” "Hating..COUGH...This...Already." > Chapter 3 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 3 “First things first girls, we need to find a proper carriage for him, as much as I like holding him I’m starting to get tried.” Adagio said, as the three of them began to walk up the city mall deciding if they were going to buy stuff, buy it in the big city. “If you so tired of carrying him put him in the dang basket.” Aria groaned, still hating the fact Adagio was going to go throw with keep him. “What in that! Never! Only the best for my...uh...uh…” Adagio paused as she just realized something. “I never gave him a name.” “You’ve only decided to be his mother for about...ten minutes and already you're spoiling him...Great job Adagio, great job.” Aria said sarcastically. “Shut it! We need to think of name for him. This is important .Sonata go!” “Uh...Uh...Baby.” Adagio groaned. “We’re not calling him baby!” “Cry baby” Aria suggested Adagio just glared at her. Adagio started to ponder what would be the perfect name to her newly found baby boy, the Crescendo if you will to his beauty and then she had it. “Crescendo!” “Oh I like it.” Sonata said. “Yes! Will call him Crescendo, he is my little Crescendo!” Adagio help the newly christened Crescendo up to her face, he was now awake and started giggling enjoying the attention. “Oh goody, she;s already getting into motherhood.” Aria moaned. “I know isn’t it so cute.” Sonata said. “Please don’t make this my life now.” “Aww Auntie Aria is just jealous of you.” Adagio said playfully to Crescendo. “Please don’t call me that.” Aria groaned. “I like it!” Sonata said. “Whatever, lets get this over with...for it’s going to be a LONG eighteen years.” The three Sirens entered the large mall, it was filled with stores at every corner and people going into them. The enter the local baby shop known as Babies R Us, the only baby supply store in the mall. “This is it girls.” “Let the stupidity begin.” The three sirens started going through the mall picking out all sorts of things babies likes, toys, strollers, little decorative things. Sonata mostly stuck with toys, considering she had the mind of a baby she would be the perfect go to person for suggested. Aria just scowled as she surged around the store getting creeped out by all the pink and blue that surrounded her, it was enough to make her heave. Adagio on the other hand looked for the important stuff, as stroller and a crib, of course the crib would have to be ordered and delivered, even if she could just have Sonata and Aria carry it all the way back home with them but she knew that wasn’t a practical proposal but it would be fun to watch. Dozens of strollers were lined up each one was flawed in Adagio eyes. “Nope, nope...that’s stupid...pathetic ...unworthy.” Adagio kept looking trying to find the perfect one. If their was one thing Adagio loved was perfection, and she wanted to insure that if she was going to raise this child as her own then she would do it with the grace of a Siren. Then finally she found it, the perfect stroller. It was ocean blue, with little waves carved into it, and much to her surprise three sea pony like creatures were also engraved sitting on a rock. “Strange...it’s almost as if fate...nah! That’s impossible, mere coincidence. But…” She tried out the cradle on Crescendo it fit him perfectly. “Perfection. Isn’t that right my little Crescendo.” Aria watched from the corner. “This isn’t right.” “What’s not right.” Aria jumped to see Sonata carrying a pile of stuffed animals that covered her face. “Don’t do that.” “Isn’t it odd, that Adagio, of all people...Adagio! Goes from probably one of the most ruthless people I know to all of a sudden wanna be mother.” “What’s wrong that. She’s taken care of us for years.” “Yeah but not like that!” Aria pointed over Adagio fawning over their new kid. “Well, who knows babies bring out the best in people.” Sonata hypothesized. “By the way which one is better the Pink Elephant or the Blue Bear.” “That and the annoying! But that’s not the point! I think somethings up, something in Adagio’s head must have gone wack when she saw the brat!” “Shh...Don’t call him that last time you did… “I know! She’s not listing this time. But no one goes from Siren Queen to baby gushe in only one night and I’m going to find out why.” “That’s great and all but I still need to know Pink or Blue.” “Ugh go to sleep Sonata.” Now that she found her perfect stroller for Crescendo Adagio, got Aria and Sonata to put all the objects they bought on top the counter. The cashier looked a bit stunned to see all this stuff they were going to buy. “So uh...will that be cash or credit.” Suddenly the familiar smirk appeared on Adagio’s face. “Actually, I think a song is a better price for all this.” Then Adagio began to sing that enchanted tune she used at the Lovers Peek last night, as she did the Cashier’s eye began to glaze over as a drowsy smile appeared on his face. “I’ll get your bags for you mam as he started ringing them up. “See Aria, Adagio hasn’t changed she’s still enslaving people.” Sonata whispered to her fellow Siren with a wide smile. Adagio then leaned down to look at the baby. “See, this is how mommy will give you everything you’ll ever want.” Aria groaned. “Yeah...Except it’s for something completely stupid.” Finally after a few hours of shopping the Dazzling took the bus back to the city to their home. Thankfully and almost ironically the Dazzling’s house had a extra spare bedroom, either used as a place to take their so called “Boyfriends” in and, “have their way with them” but now they had to purify it and make it the baby's new room. Adagio walked in first carrying the stroller while Aria and Sonata were busy carrying the toys and other stuff they got. The pile was large and heavy. “My back is killing me.” Aria groaned. “I can’t feel anything. It’s fun.” “Girls, put the supplies in Crescendos knew room.” “We don’t have a spare room.” Aria said. “Of course we do, the guest room...idiot.” Adagio said as she picked up a few of the outfits they brought him to put it on him “You mean the…Special Room. Sonata asked. “Yep.” “But that’s the room for OUR playthings.” Aria groaned. “Well sorry, if you want to play with those, then go to a hotel like everyone else. We can’t be uh...playing...when there is a baby in the house now. Also Sonata I want you keep your dagger collection as far away from Crescendo as possible. Locked, and keyed.” “Got it boss!” Sonata saluted as she headed off into her room. “See Aria, Sonata is a team player. Also now that I think of it, I need to rid myself of those sleeping pills and perhaps hide my wip, handcuffs and chains. ” Adagio commented as she put on Crescendos new little blue t shirt. “Now isn’t he precious now.” she picked him up as the two of them headed to the couch Adagio started to cuddle and play with him making baby noises and voices, Aria just watched in discuss. “Say Dagi...Question.” Adagio rolled her eyes. “What? This better be important.” “So...you really like this kid don’t yuh.” “Of course?” Adagio started bouncing the baby on her knee as she started fawning over his cuteness. “You liked him enough to make a life changing decision on a wim.” Aria asked again building up to something. “What exactly are you getting at.” “I’m asking why the heck did you uproot our lives the minute you fawned over a ...kid!” Aria said struggling to say that last word. Adagio stopped bouncing the baby and turned to look at Aria both angry and disappointed. “Aria let me tell you something. When was the last time, someone adored you.” “Last week when I went to male stri…. “Enough! I know how this story goes. Let me guess you used your powers.” “No I payed him...OF COURSE I USED MY POWERS!” “Yes! Exactly, they adored you because of our magic, and while I still enjoy the groveling of the miserable mortals we claim, I realized last night for a few seconds, what real adoration feels like.” Arias thought over what Adagio said and realized something they key to the madness. "I get it now." She whispered. "See I..." "This is just another one of your schemes! This is just a way for someone to gaw over you and since it not someone under your spell it just makes you more happy since you don't need to use your powers." Adagio looked stunned and slowly put Crescendo back into the baby carriage then she slowly moved in towards Aria looking stoned face suddenly she grabbed Aria by the neck . "How...dare you." "Your just mad...because I'm right." Aria said gasping for air. Adagio just glared at Aria and tighten her grip. "He won't be a mindless brat forever and then where will that leave you." Adagio gripped loosened a bit but she still looked furious. "Doesn't matter if we treat him right he'll still love us." "You mean love you." "Whatever! Still to be truly adored is something remarkable. I'm not going to give it up so easily." "So what happens then when he grows up. He's still a human, you'll use our powers on him." "Never!" Adagio let go of Aria and covered her pendant with both hands. "That will never happen." "Dagi, Dagi, Dagi. I know what happens when you don't get your way. Even if you don't use your powers sooner or later those powers will affect him." "Then...then we just make him a siren." "Oh now you're nuts! You just don't make someone a siren." "If you can make Alicorns then you make sirens we just need enough magic to forge a pendant for him." "Dagi your nuts and will never find that power that why Starswirl banished us here." "Enough Aria! I'm the leader I made this choice! And you will follow my lead." Aria rolled her eyes. "Fine. Whatever, live in la la land with the kid. But I warned you either your desires or ambitions will get the best of you...again." She left leaving Adagio alone, suddenly the baby began to cry causing her to snap out of her rage and pay attention to Crescendo. "Oh there, there my little Crescendo, don't let mean old Aria worry you, mommy will love and adore you." Crescendo then reached up to try and touch Adagio pendant. "No, no Crescendo this mommies and you Aunts special pendant there very important and fragile. That's a good boy." As Adagio coddled Crescendo Aria watched from the corner in the hall. "This is stupid. This is going be so, wrong in so many ways. I just know it." > Chapter 4 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 4 The next few days after Aria's little confrontation with Adagio things calmed down between the two, although Aria kept a an close eye over everything that was happening. Adagio slowly became more and more obsessed with the baby, especially with his room. “No, no the crib should go over there by the window, so the light doesn’t hurt his eyes.” “Okay Adagio.” Sonata started pulling the crib, it looked as if it hurt her back. “Is this good.” “A little more to the left.” “This good.” “More to the right.” “How bout now.” “More to the left.” “Now?” “More to the center now.” “Adagio!” Aria spat as she walked into the room carrying a mountain load of toys. “Just pick a place and stick with it!” “Fine, fine!” Over there at that corner.” Adagio pointed to a corner of the wall, Sonata began to push the crib their, once done she started to massage her back as it ached. “There are we good.” “Great! Now Sonata go get the babies clothes.” Sonata looked at a mountain load of outfits that Adagio had bought for him, all the tiny baby bonnets, shirts and jackets for when it got cold. “Why me. Sonata left leaving Adagio and Aria in the room again. “Boy, this place is baby paradise...considering what it used to be.” “Shh...Don’t say anything about the you know what business done in here.” Adagio said getting on Aria for revealing the dirty secret about the room. “I mean yes, I myself had some fun in this room.” “Like that one guy you tied up, took off his pants and starting wiping his…. “ARIA!” “Sorry! Sorry! I Just still...find it weird that one minute you're doing... that... and now….this.” she pointed to the baby in Adagio arms who was sound asleep. It slowly began to wake up. “He's waking up, no more past talk.” “Fine.” Adagio looked down at the baby. “Hello there my little Crescendo.” she cooed, “glad to see you joining us this morning. This is your new room. Take a look.” “Ugh, baby talk.” Aria grunted under her breath. Adagio adjusted the baby so he could see his entire room, the walls had been painted a oceanic blue to give it a underwater feel. Little cravings of waves were carved onto the edges of the wall. A pile of toy laid laid down on the ground a few of stuff animals were already inside the crib, three of them happened to be seaponies and finally there was the babies little mobile which Adagio "asked" Aria to personally carve in the shape of Sirens. "Think your taking the siren thing a little to far." Aria said. "It's his heritage now." Adagio responded. "He should know where he belongs." "But he.... Adagio glared causing Aria to shut up. "Alright fine. His room not mine." "Good because now it's lunch time. Time to feed the baby.” “Oh goody.” Sonata brought out a stack of Taco’s for lunch although her back was still sore from moving the crib. She took him to the diner table and into the baby door she bought as well “I got the Taco’s’ for the baby.” Sonata said cheerfully putting one of the babies plate. Adagio slapped the Taco off the plate. “We can’t feed them that idiot!” “But...Taco...It’s...a ...Taco….Taco...good.” “Taco’s can’t be eaten by babies!” Adagio yelled. “Sure they can you just got to stuff them into their…” Sonata suddenly found a Taco being stuffed into her mouth, making her unable to talk. “Now that stupid done. Aria get the baby food and napkin.” “Why me?” “Because, I can’t get away from this cute adorable face.” Adagio squealed. “Oh sweet Celestia.” Aria rolled her eyes. Aria headed to the kitchen to wear the baby food was. She noticed that some of the jars were half full. “Sonata, did you… “NO!...Maybe….I CAN’T HELP IT...It’s too tasty.” “I don’t know what’s worse your Taco feddish or this.” “I don’t have a fetish.” “I saw the way you looked at Taco Grande Mascot.” “He was cute.” “Yeah...Then how come every time you're bought him home he was wearing the costume… “Girls!...The baby.” Adagio said. “Fine, fine…” Aria got the baby food and handed it to Adagio as she and Sonata sat down for breakfast. “So...what are we going to do today.” Sonata asked. “There a big festival at the park today...I say we go there and uh...have some lunch.” Aria thought smirking at her pendant. “Oh, a festival...Crescendo will like that.” Adagio said sounding excited. Aria just stares at her. “And...uh...getting some negative energies of course.” Adagio said. “Can we ride rides too.” Sonata asked. “I like the tilt a whirl and the loopty loop. Even though I throw up when I ride it, but then someone else throws up too so I get to enjoy their suffering.” “Then it’s agreed, to the festival it is. Sonata...Bring the camera!” The festival, the place was packed with people wanting to ride the many rides, from the tilt a whirl to the merry go round, or either eating snacks such as peanut butter and popcorn, while others were busy playing the games at the stands. Aria hated it, Sonata loved it, and Adagio, well...she was too busy gawking over the baby to really have a emotion at the moment. "This looks is much fun!" Sonata said as she jumped for joy.. "Ha! Look at that one guy vomiting all over his girlfriend. Oh that's the stuff." "Yeah, yeah...I'm going to get some food." "Oh no you don't!" Adagio grabbed hold of Aria. "I need you to film the baby for me so we can cherish the moment forever!" "Oh don't tell me your going to be one of those mothers who video tapes every single thing." "Of course not but we should preserve this moment." "Oh boy...ugh...fine!" Aria takes out her cell phone and starts filming. "Babies day at the festival take one." "Smile little Crescendo." Adagio gushed. Aria took the picture. “Psst...Adagio...look.” Sonata whispered as she started tilting her head . “What?” “Look...a tunnel of love...lets go turn it into the tunnel of hate.” Sonata said with a hungry look in her eyes. “We will, we will but first...Aria go get Crescendo a little balloon.” Aria turned around to see the balloon stand being manned by, "Cl..Cl...Clown." Aria froze and her face was in shock. Very few people knew it but Aria had a deep seeded fear of clowns. "Just get the balloon." "And get near to that....thing. " she points to the clown. "It's just a clown." "Exactly there unnatural, no person should wear that much make up." "You don't get scared when you watch Batman fight the Joker." "That's different, he knows he's a psychopath!" "Just get the balloon! And where's Sonta!" Adagio looked around she saw Sonata riding the merry go round. "Weee this is just like back home!" Adagio rolled her eyes. She looked at Crescendo who was laughing. "Sorry about your aunts..,there idiots. Yes they are yes they are." She stared tickling him. A few feet away Aria was trying to get the balloon "Come on Aria, don't be chicken." She looked at the wide smiling clown with fear. "Ah...so unnatural, we better be getting since negative energy for this." “Hello! I’m bozo the clown.” “You said it not me. Look I’ll take one of those balloons.” “Want a animal balloon!” “What...no just a ...hey.” The Clown got Aria with water. “What the…Oh forget this!” She took the balloon got some money and then kicked him in the shin! She ran off back to Adagio. “Here’s your balloon.” “See, was that so hard.” “Yes.” Adagio tied the balloon to the walking cradle as the baby was fascinated by it he tried to reach it. “Wow...reminds of Sonata.” She looks up to see Sonata fascinated by a bunch of balloons as well trying to reach up to them. “Lets hope he’s smart.” “Of course he is.” Adagio said rubbing his head. “He’s going to be the most intelligent child in the world.” "Whatever." Adagio and Aria walked over to the Ferris wheel where Sonata was waiting for them excited to ride it. "I love Ferris wheels. Especially being able to spit on people when were up high." "Yeah that is fun." As the girls talked they didn't pay attention to the baby who at the time was still fascinated by the balloon which started to float away. He tried to reach it but failed. So he got on his knees and successfully crawled out of his scooter and crawled his way into one of the carts. “Uh, Adagio.” “Not now Aria.” “But...Adagio.” “I said not now!” “Okay, fine if you want to have splat baby.” “What are you...’Adagio looked down at the baby carriage to see Crescendo missing only to see him entering one of the carriage of the ferris wheel, as it started going up and up and up. “AH! Aria you with me...Sonata stay here.” “Don’t worry I’ll catch him.” “You’ll let him land on you if you have to! No come on!” Adagio managed to jump onto the cart as it dragged her and Aria who was hanging on to Adagio by the legs for dear life as they tilted upwards into the air. "Dagi...were going up pretty high." Aria said. "Just help me into the cart!" Aria pushed Adagio up as much as she could while trying hold on to the cart as the two of them got higher and higher. “Boy were getting high up.” “PUSH YOU IDIOT!” “Okay...Okay…” Aria took a deep breath. “Ok Ari, you can to do this, okay, one, two, three! GO!” With all her might Aria pushed Adagio up into the cart with a thump. Adagio looked up to see little Crescendo looking wide eyed at everything with a smile on his face. “Their you are little Crescendo, come to mommy.” “Ugh...Baby talk.” Aria scoughed. The baby saw Adagio and slowly began to crawl to her Adagio on her knees trying to stay still, slowly the baby was almost in her arms slowly and surely getting closer and closer, until the cart shook causing the baby to fall off the cart and quickly make her way downward. “No!” “Sonata!” She looked up to see the falling baby. ‘I GOT HIM! I GOT HIM!” Sonata ran arms raised as if about to catch a football. Faster and faster the baby feel, Aria and Adagio watched with horror praying to the great siren gods of old that Sonata would catch her. “I GOT HIM, I GOT HIM, I GOT HIM I….UMPH!” “UH!’ “I...Am not surprised.” Aria showed, the baby had landed saftley...right on Sonata head. “Did I get him?” “You got something alright.” “Few.” Adagio took a sigh of relief the baby however she still had another problem. “Um...can someone get me down.” Finally Adagio was safely back on the ground Crescendo in her arms, everything was back to normal. “See. Told you the kid will be trouble.” “But I got him.” Sonata boasted still a little doozy from being hit in the head. Adagio held him tight rocking him back and forth over her shoulder. “Well the important thing is he’s safe.” “ Now ladies and gentlemen get ready for the singing competition. “Singing competition.” Adagio got a evil grin on her face. “Come on girls let show little Crescendo what mommy and aunts are made off. A few moments later the Dazzling’s put on a great performance in front of a pretty large crowd that was still at the fair. And with all those people came all the negative energy that came along with it, a large smog of green mist emerged on the ground allowing The Dazzling’s eat it all up and increase the amount of energy they could use on their voices. Backstage Crescendo watched by he didn’t know what was going on, he just liked the nice sounds. “Thank you, thank you!” Adagio bowed once the song was over...although the audience was mostly arguing with one another instead of paying attention much to her delight. The three went back stage Crescendo was still giggling and laughing like most babies would. “Ah...he enjoyed us as well.” “Well of course he did! He’s a baby. They don’t know anything but giggling.” Aria scoughed. “Well it good to know my little Crescendo has good taste, yes he does, yes he does.” Adagio said rubbing the baby’s tummy and fawning over him. “Strange...Still not affected.” Aria said noticing his positive attitude. “Well we weren’t aiming for him were we.” Adagio remarked still paying attention to Crescendo. “Yeah but that doesn’t matter, our voices rang out through the stage.” Aria said. “It should have affected him.” “Who cares.” Adagio said. “I wouldn’t want him affected by our song anyway, I want him to be the only one who enjoys our music.” “For realzies?” Sonata asked. “For realzies.” Adagio said picking him up and cuddling him. “But what about making the whole world adore us?” Aria asked. “Oh that’s still our goal, but now we have a fourth member for them to adore.” Adagio replied holding up Crescendo. “Oh this is going to end well.” Aria moaned. “I’m hungry let’s get Taco’s...Oh..Do you think Crescendo likes taco’s.” “Yep...Going, to end, well!” > Chapter 5 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 5 “I can’t believe I’m doing this.” “You can’t believe... I can’t believe it either. But we have no choice.” “I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE! MAKE IT STOP!” “Okay girls….Here, we go….One...Two...Three...DIRTY DIAPER DIRTY DIAPER! Aria!” Adagio took off Crescendos dirty stained diapoer and gave ti Aria “EW EW EW SONATA!” “AAAHHH!” Sonata ran the diaper to the garbage and tossed it in the garbage can, turned on the sink and started washing her hands muttering all the while. “Still not clean, still not clean.” “Move it dipstick!” Aria shoved and started washing her hands. “Out of the way!” Sonata shoved back, now washing her hands. “Oh, come down girls.” Adagio said as he was busy powdering Crescendos bottom, finishing by putting on the newly fresh diaper on it. “There, nice and fresh.” She turned to see Aria and Sonata still washing their hands, as she put Crescendo in his playpen, three months had passed since the fair incident and life had been going smoothly. “Oh come on we used to get our hands dirty all the time.” Aria scowled. “Yeah, with the blood of our enemies...not..ugh!” Adagio rolled her eyes as she sat on the couch to watch T.V. She turned on cartoon’s which immediately got Sonata’s attention. “Oh I love this one.” “It’s a about a Sponge that lives in a pineapple.” “Oh yeah, it’s awesome...Well the classic one’s...the new one’s not so much.” Sonata picked up Crescendo as sat him on her lap as the two of them watched, Adagio and Aria seemed bored. But this was one of the sacrifices of having a baby, having to watch silly cartoons. Adagio got up to go check the fridge only to find it half empty. “Ugh! Were running out food. Well time for a trip to the store.” “Again!” Aria groaned. “I hate that place.” “Fine...You weren’t invited anyway. Sonata, you and I are goign to the store...Aria, you're in charge of Crescendo while I’m gone.” “What! Me!...” Aria shouted. “Why?” “Because I don’t trust Sonata, but I do trust you...When Sonata’s not around that is.” Adagio rebuttled. “But! But!...” “No buts! We need food...diapers...wipes… “AND TACOS! WE NEED TACOS!” Sonata shouted realizing her stash of Taco’s was gone. “COME ON!” Sonata grabbed Adagio dragging her out the door. “By Crescendo mommy loves you!” The Door shut leaving Aria and Crescendo alone in the house. Aria looked down at the baby who just had a smile on his face. “I’m not falling for it kid.” Crescendo made random baby noises. “You just sit in the pen until you're crazy mom and idiot Aunt get home. Got it!” Aria groaned as she changed the channel to what she wanted to watch. "Stupid cartoons." She turned the channel to her favorite show. Monster Truck Destruction "Ah yeah, this is where it's at, not some stupid sponge under the sea. Not that even depict the ocean life correctly. There weren't any sponges living in pineapples back in my day. Ot great castles and warrior sea ponies to devour and subjugate and..." Aria looked down to see Crescendo biting on his teething ring. "Stupid kid. You don't understand a word I'm saying aren't you." Crescendo looked at Aria and made a noise as a reply. "Still don't know what Adagio sees in you. Yeah you're cute and all but your just another human.” Ari just sits down and continues to watch monster truck destroy each other. “Huh...That’s nothing compared what I used to do ponies back in the glory days. Then old Swirly came and...” Aria scowled and closed her eyes not wanting to remember. She changed the channel to an undersea documentary. And here we see the jellyfish in it’s natural habitat “See kid this is the real ocean, not that stupid cartoon you and Sonata love.” Aria groaned. The baby groaned as he reached his little arms up obviously wanting out. “You want on the couch kid, wait for Mommy, or do it yourself.” Aria groaned she got up from the couch and into the kitchen. “I’m getting a soda….Great look at me talking to a baby.” Digging through the fridge for soda’s Aria grumbled to herself constantly. “Stupid baby, stupid Adagio. Stupid...What!” Aria returned to see Crescendo now sitting on the couch. “How! Why! What?” Baby Crescendo was giggling. “Why you stupid!” Aria picked him up and put him in his playpen. “Stay! I'm forced to sit with a baby all day named Sonata, I don’t need you too.” With that Aria got back down to sit on the couch and finally relax with he Soda in between her legs. DIG DONG! “Oh come on!” Aria got up put her Soda away and answered the door with her usual greeting of, “GO AWAY!” “Excuse me ma’am I’m selling…” Aria slammed the door before he could finish his pitch. “Good riddance to ...Oh come on!” Baby Crescendo was back on the couch and he had the remote. “Why you!...” Aria took the remote and once again put Crescendo back in his playpen. “It starting to be official, you are worse than Sonata.” Finally she relaxed again, only to then feel something on her leg looking down, baby Crescendo was sitting right next to her. “HOW DID YOU!...BUT YOU WERE!....AND I WAS...AND...UGH! Forget it. Sit here. I don’t care! I’m watching my shows.” She changed the change the channel to heavy metal music month on MTV. She scowled still looking at the baby. “You think your so big don’t you kid, just because you have Dagi wrapped around that tiny baby thumb of yours, well not me! Nuh uh!” Crescendo just looked up at Aria with big baby eyes of his intent on listing. Aria continued to scowl. “You know Mommy Adagio thinks she a good singer and all but to be fair i’m the best of the entire group.” I’m tough, I’m hot, I’m in the need To have people do, what I heed. I need to feed. Yeah. Dagi’s a fool, Sonata a dolt! But Aria, she’s...a lighting bolt. Crescendo seemed to be at awe by Aria’s song. She took notice and gave a smirk. “Like that huh...Okay then! You may be smarter than you appear. Okay...I’m little rusty but i think I can pull off a solo.” I’m on my game, I’m always on top. I’ve seen heads as their were about to pop. They adored me. Never ignored me. Those two morons think they are better When they both couldn’t perform a tenner. I’m tough, I’m hot. Everyone else is not! People think I’m just a grump instead they are all but stumped. I’m Aria! The best! Better than all the rest! They’ll do what I heed.” For I...Need….To...Feed!” The song was done, Aria looked around for the green smoke of energy that normally happened after a song however their was not to be found. “Hey! What the heck!” She looked up only to see Crescendo smiling and making baby noises. She scowled. “Well that was pointless. She sat back down on the couch only to find something touching her leg. She looked down to see Crescendo hugging her. “Hey kid...no...uh…” Aria face turned red as he fell asleep. “Uh….Wow...I guess Adagio does have a bit of a point. This uh….this does feel nice.” Aria then started scratching her chin thinking. “ He did enjoy my song, first time anyone listen to me go solo...NO! What are you saying he’s just a stupid baby. Still...’ Crescendo yawned on Aria’s leg, he looked comfy. Aria smiled as she huffed. “Stupid kid.” A hour passed as Adagio and Sonata arrive with food and Taco’s in hand. “Were home!” Sonata called causing Aria to wake up from her nap. “What..Ugh...How long was out.” “Dawww...Look Dagi.” Sonata pointed to show Crescendo napping on Aria’s leg. Adagio looked annoyed. “Aria!” She jumped up. “What!” “I told you to watch him...How did he get you!” “What...Oh...Kids clever! He got out like five different times or something.” Aria protested. “I just gave up.” “Your lucky he didn’t get hurt.” Adagio picked him up and held him for a few moments. He was still asleep but slowly opening his eyes and waking up. He saw Aria and smiled. “Uh… “Daw, he likes you too Ari.” Sonata said as she sat down on the couch. “Yeah...Whatever.” “Then why are you smiling.” “Ugh...You really are the worse Sonata.” > Chapter 6 > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chapter 6 The Holiday season had finally rolled around the corner and the Dazzling’s were excited as ever. Normally the three sirens hated the holiday seasons, except Sonata she found them fun and always liked to trick the local passers by to give her presents and gifts. The other two found the whole season too cheery a happy for their taste. However that was before they all had a little baby boy to take care of. “I’m so happy we’re finally getting into the holiday spirit girls.” Sonata said as she set up the tree and decorations. “I told you the holiday’s were fun.” “No they’re not Sonata.” Aria groaned. “But the kid likes them, so at least this year they're tolerable.” “Here he is.” Adagio cooed as she brought out Crescendo wearing a cheesy Christmas sweater. “Sonata get the camera.” Sonata pulled out her phone and took a picture of Adagio and Crescendo in his sweeter. “Say Taco.” CLICK “His first holidays with us.” Adagio said sounding all excited putting him in the play pen. “Now, we have important things to discuss.” “What?” Sonata asked. “What to get Crescendo for his first holidays.” Aria groaned. “Really Adagio...We got pretty much every toy in existence, by the way, biggest waste of energy ever!” “Oh, I suppose then you have a great idea of then of what to get him?” Adagio said, her mood darkening. Aria froze. “Uh...Well...No.” “Oh...Really...then...Shut it!” Adagio growled putting her back in her place. “Now! We need something perfect! A gift that will last forever! Not just a simple toy, but something...something grand! His first holiday with us must be something to remember.” “Geez Adagio he’s just a baby, he’s not going to remember.” Aria said. “No this is a crucial moment! We want him to love and adore us forever right, so we need to make it so this is the best holiday ever!” Adagio proclaimed. Aria eyes narrowed. “So is this just a part of your scheme then.” Adagio glared. “No! I want him to be happy! If it just so happens to benefit us, that’s an added bonus.” Aria rolled her eyes, she wouldn’t deny she had grown to like the kid and did like the fact he adored them for them and not because of their magical musical abilities, still a part of her still couldn’t help but feel Adagio why perhaps her heart being in some what the right the place still let her siren instincts take hold. “Well then Adagio, where exactly do we find this...oh so perfect gift.” “I...Have no idea.” “Heh.” Sonata beamed as she had a idea.“Oh I know… “Is it a giant Taco.” “No!....Yes.” “Agh.” Aria groaned. “Okay, so Sonata out of ideas, and again, we can’t just get him another toy. He’s already got enough, to sickening degrees.” “I know, I know.” Adagio asked as she turned around to see baby Crescendo playing with his stuff sea horse. “Hmm...I got it! A portrait.” “What?” “No...A picture, a family picture of the four of us to celebrate our first holiday with him.” Adagio said liking her idea more and more. “Yay! Picture!” Sonata cheered. “I’ll got see what I should wear.” “Dagi! Every picture place is booked solid.” Aria stated. “No problem, I’m sure they’ll take us for a song.” “Okay, even if we did, it still just a picture...even I know you’ll need something more interesting than that.” Aria suggested. Adagio scowled, however she took a deep breath and sighed as she thought about it. “Ugh you're right.” Taking a deep breath she put on her hooded sweatshirt and headed out. “Where are you going?” “Going for a walk to get some ideas.” Adagio said closing the door behind her leaving Aria alone with the baby. “Well kid looks like it’s just you and me again.” “Aria! Can you see if this looks good.” Aria sighed and shivered at the thought of what awaited her in the other room.“Siren of old help me. Adagio walked alone in the cold snow, the entire town was covered with that and holiday cheer, to her it was all strange, she used to hate holiday cheer and the happiness of others, and she still did to some degree. But now, now she wanted the happiness of one that small baby she found in the middle of the streets all those months ago, it was a weird feeling, loathing others while loving one other than herself for a change. It was tingling feeling, it made her feel warm inside. But even while the months passed, the doubt in her mind ever lingered, would she make a good parent, was she a good parent, oh sure she fed him, put him to bed, and clothed him, but was that enough. A part of her knew that she kept him around for selfish reason, the purpose of being truly adored and she wanted to keep that feeling as long as possible, but what if not being a good parent meant she would lose that feeling. “No don’t think these things Adagio, you are the greatest! You will achieve! You just need to find the right gift and it will lay the foundation of everlasting adoration.” She kept saying that to herself as she continued to pass through several shops and restaurants looking through the windows trying to find the perfect place to find a item of perfection. Finally she stumbled upon a old looking antique store. “This looks promising.” She entered it causing the little bell ringing as she opened the door. Inside was a place filled with collectible plates, jewels and other nick nacks. She looked at every object, none of them coming out right to her specifications until finally, she it. “Impossible.” She picked up the object. It was a read pendant , much like her hers in fact exactly like her, a perfect match. She examined it closely, glaring at it through the limelight. “Do you like it miss.” She turned around as an elderly looking man appeared in the back. He was an elderly looking man, and a bit funny looking to, he had a wild look in his eyes, one both of wisdom but also a bit of craziness. Something about him seem familiar to Adagio but she decided to ignore it. “It is beautiful looking.” She replied. “Found during one of my trips overseas.” The old man replied. “Along with a really cool hat.” “Whatever? Um...What is it though?” She asked. “Just a read ruby, nothing more.” He replied. “Are you sure.” Adagio put the ruby close to her chest, she was unable to sense any magic or energy. “Sure.” “Very well...How much.” Adagio asked. “For you...On the house.” Adagio seemed shocked as she started at the old man who merely just stroke his beard and smiled. “Why?” “I don’t know...I’m in the holiday mood. Plus I bet that’s for a loved one right?” “Yes...My adopted son.” Adagio said, surprised she admitted that information. “Really, you seem young to be a mother?” He said. “I’m a lot older actually.” Adagio said. "I just look younger." “Interesting. Well it’s good to see you have selflessly taken someone into your heart." Adagio face turned red after this statement. “Yeah...heh..heh.” “Being a parent is a difficult thing, making sacrifices, changing your very nature for the good of the child. It’s hard yes, but in the end so worth it. Especially once he’s grown and seeing him go out in the world.” “Go out...As in away...no longer...with me.” Adagio though. “Don’t be silly that’s years away plenty of time to change his mind should those thoughts arise.” "Something wrong miss." "What! No, no I just uh...really hope this gift goes well my little boy is only one." "Well I'm sure he'll appreciate it when he's older. Matches his new mother doesn't it. It could be your special bond." The old man smiled. Adagio smiled as well. "Yeah. He'll be one us. A real Dazzling." "Or something more." The old man said with a smile. "As long as you raise him right." Adagio scowled her mood souring. "Saying I can't." "I'm not saying anything I don't know you. You might be you might not. All depends on where your heart lies." "I think my heart lies above my chest where it belongs." Adagio groaned. The old man merely smiled. "Well time will tell I guess." "What are you implying." Adagio said raising an eyebrow. "I'm just saying that being a parent requires being able to put aside your own needs and in some cases....repress certain impulses for the good of the child." "And your saying I can't do that." Adagio replied getting angry. "I don't know, can you?" "Of course I can, I am Adagio Dazzle!" "I don't know what that means miss." Now Adagio was getting annoyed. "I can raise this child, and I'll have his love and adoration and he'll be happy." Now the old man raised an eyebrow. "Adoration?" Are you seeking praise for good parenting." Adagio froze and hesitated to answer. "Of course not, I'm not shallow or anything." "Of course not." The old man replied. "Because that would be doing what you're doing for the wrong reasons." Adagio was getting tired of this conversation "Yeah, yeah, you're giving me this for free or not." "Of course." The old man said. "I never go back on my word." "Good! So long." "So long miss." Adagio left the shop still weirded out by that old man. "That...was weird. But still how dare he question my intentions." She then looked at the pendant. "This is perfect, it looks exactly like mine and the girls...though, I'm sure a baby can wear a pendant. But I'll give it to him and it will look gorgeous on him when he's older." However moment of joy died down as one thought entered her mind. "To bad it doesn't have magic.
