> The Manehattan Chronicles > by Vinyl Dash > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Wake up call > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fire Wing, a golden colored Pegasus with a fiery mane and amber eyes, wakes up in the middle of a forest. Where am I? Who am I? Why am I here? He thought, extremely absent-minded. None of this is familiar... maybe I should look around. He gets up and starts to walk through the forest taking in the sights as he walks along. The trees were very tall and dark, blocking the bright sun from his sight. He eventually saw a bright opening into what looked like a city. Fire finally gallops out of the forest and sees many, many substantial buildings. He spots a thuggish-looking pony walking down a street and walks up to him. “Sir, where am I?” Fire asks with a confused face. “Manehattan.” The pony replied, giving Fire a hard look. Fire hesitated, but continued his round of questions. “Do you know who I am?” he inquired. “Nope.” “Ok.” Fire trots off, relieved to be away from the creepy colt. “Psst. Hey, you! Fire mane! Come here.” A voice hissed from an alleyway. Fire Wing jumps slightly and turns toward the dark street. “Who are you?” Fire whisper-shouted into the darkness. “Somepony that can offer information… for a price.” the voice muttered. “A price… of what?” Fire Wing trotted into the alleyway, taking careful, cautious steps. “Work. I run The Sky Kings.” “Sky Kings?” Fire Wing’s face contorted in confusion. “The Sky Kings. You haven’t heard of ‘em? We are a Pegasus- only gang that runs this turf. If you need information about yourself, Fire, you just need to work for us.” The pony walked out of the darkness, finally revealing himself. The pony is dark gray with red eyes and a scar along his left eye. He is wearing a jacket that covers his cutie mark. “Who’s Fire?” “You are. Your full name is Fire Wing and if you want to know more about yourself, you need to join the gang.” “All right, I guess I’ll join.” Fire declared. “But I’m not too sure about this.” “Good. Now follow me.” Fire follows the mysterious pony down the alleyway. “My name’s Blackthorn, but people usually call me Thorn.” “Where are we going?” Fire quivered. “Our hideout, of course. You need to meet the team before you can do anything else.” Blackthorn answered, smirking. Blackthorn continues to lead Fire through the slums. He sees many broken down buildings with broken windows, doors, even roofs. Fire shivers at the thought of living in a place like this. “Where are we going?” Fire asked with a slight shiver. “Up there.” Thorn says with a sly smile. He points to an elaborate cloud building that is twenty stories high and floating sixty hooves off the ground. It has rainbow fountains, statues, and a nice weather zone. Fire sees the rainbow fountains and regains a small memory. Fire is flying through the air at supersonic speeds and he breaks the sound barrier creating a flame storm at the same time. ‘The Sonic Flame Storm! I finally did it!’ Fire quickly loses control after preforming the Sonic Flame Storm and crashes into sky blue pony’s rainbow fountain. ‘That filly is pretty cute.’ “Ack!” Fire says as he comes out if the trance, a little confused. “What?” Blackthorn asks as he turns around with a stern look on his face. “I don’t know.” Fire says with a confused look on his face. “What do you mean? You know what…never mind.” Blackthorn says. “Ready?” Fire gulps. “Yes.” > Meeting the team > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fire and Thorn fly up to the magnificent base. He sees the glorious and colorful rainbow fountains. Fire looks at the statues of random pegasi. “Who are these statues of?” He inquired. Thorn looked back with a smirk. “Those statues are of the old and current leaders of the gang.” “Well, I want to be a leader.” Fire says like a foal. “You can admire the statues later. Now, come on!” Thorn gallops into the base with Fire tailing a couple of feet behind. Fire enters the base and sees a giant fountain that out shines all of the other fountains. “You ponies really like your fountains.” Fire observed. “Yea. Come on, you need to meet two members that you will be working with the most.” Thorn trots down a hall. Fire admires the fountains for a little bit longer. He turns and notices Thorn went down the hall. “Wait for me!” Fire calls as he breaks into a gallop. He runs down the hall for a while until he runs into a tall, buff pegasus. “Watch where you’re going punk!” Fire looks up at the pegasus he ran into. The pony is white and has a black mane. He is wearing the same jacket that Thorn is. “S-s-s-sorry.” Fire stutters, shaking. “Who are you anyways?” The pegasus demanded. “I’m Fire…or at least that’s what Thorn told me.” Fire told the pegasus backing away slowly. “Fire! There you are. It looks like you met General.” “I’m sorry for running into you, General, sir.” Fire salutes. At that Thorn and General break into laughter. “That’s my name, not my rank.” Thorn looks at General. “Sorry I have to cut this short, but Fire needs to meet the rest of his team.” “All right. See you later, Fire.” General says smiling. Fire follows Thorn down the hallways. Thorn points down a hall. “That is the living quarters. You’ll be staying in room 201.” “201 got it. Who are we meeting first?” Fire asks. “We are meeting my lovely wife Winter Frost.” Thorn tells Fire in a love-struck voice. “Can’t wait to meet her.” Fire says sincerely. “Oh, and General is your team’s captain.” Thorn added. Fire follows Thorn to an ice blue pegasus. Fire glances out the window and sees a library Triggering another memory. Fire is standing outside a tree with the sky blue pegasus from the last memory. Fire knocks on the door and a light purple unicorn with a violet and pink mane opens the door. “Hey Fire, Hey R-“ “FIRE!” Thorn shouts into his ear. “Huh?” Fire asks as he shoots out of his memory. “Oh yea we were meeting Winter Frost.” Fire looks at Winter Frost seeing her ice blue coat and white mane. She is wearing the same jacket as everypony in the room. “Hi Winter Frost. I’m Fire; I think I’ll be part of your team.” “Hello Fire. That’s good. Ever since we lost our old captain we’ve needed a demolitions expert.” Winter Frost tells Fire. “Ok. I think I may have been a demopony.” “Good.” “It’s been a long day. I think I’ll retire to my room.” Fire walks to room 201 and sees just a plain old room with a bed and a dresser. He lies down and ponders. ‘Who is that cute sky blue filly?’ He starts to fall asleep. ‘Why am I this tired? What were those two… flashbacks I had earlier?’ Fire yawns. ‘Why was I in the woods?’ Fire finally drifts into a deep slumber.
