POV Dragon Prince Logan

I stood at the western gate, pacing back and forth. 'Where are they? They should be here by now.' It was about five minutes later when I saw two pony-shaped forms flying toward me. 'There they are.' The two of them landed and walked toward me; two Alicorns, one of them with a pure white coat, long flowing mane and tail with colors that always reminded me of the day and a sun as her cutie mark. The other Alicorn had a midnight blue coat with matching mane and tail that flowed as well and a crescent moon as her cutie mark. I took a step toward them and cleared my throat before I addressed them. "Celestia, Luna your a bit late but that doesn't matter right now. Its good to see you both again."

"Its good to see you again Logan." Celestia replied.

"How goes the work on our new castle in the Everfree Forest?" Luna asked.

"Thing are going smoothly." I replied. "The workers have had few trouble with the creatures living in the area." Both of them seemed pleased with the progress that was being made.

"Hey Celestia I almost forgot, my father wanted to talk to you."

"Alright then I'll be back soon then." And with that she flew off in the direction of the castle.

"Have thee thought about our offer?" Luna asked. "I have Luna and after the castle's finished I would be willing to accept your offer." She smiled and then proceeded to wrap her hooves around me. "We thank you for this Logan."

I returned the hug and I felt that a relationship might actually work between us. "But Luna, until then we have to keep this a secret from Celestia." She nodded in response. "But no matter what Logan, I love you no matter what and would love to spend forever with you." "So do I."

A Dragon's Grief

10 years later...

I walked briskly into the throne room and sure enough Luna was there. Now normally I would have been happy to see my marefriend but today was different. Luna has been acting differently, and somewhat bitter. "Luna is something wrong? I've noticed that you've been acting strange, are you OK?" She turned to glare at me which made my blood run ice cold.

"Did you really expect me to sit idlely by while ponies played in my sister's precious day?" Wait, is this what's bothering her? "There can only be one princess of Equestria and it will be me!" she exclaimed as she smashed the balcony railing with her forehooves.

I watched as shadows creeped along the floor, and then up the wall behind Luna. A crack appeared in the wall behind her and spread up until it reached the window which shattered apart. I watched in shock as the moon rose up and blocked out the sun. Then a swirl of magic energy formed around her and I watched as she was transformed into a mare of darkness. Her mane, tail, and coat were pitch black and her cutie mark was now a light blue.

Then Celestia arrived. "Luna you must lower the moon, it is your duty!" I was hoping that perhaps Celestia could snap her out of it.

"Luna? I am no longer Luna. I am Nightmare Moon. I now only have one royal duty now: To destroy you!!!"

I leaped aside as she fired a charged blast of magic and Celestia took flight with Nightmare Moon flying after her. I spread my own wings and proceeded to fly after the Alicorns. Celestia was dodging blast after blast from Nightmare Moon until she got hit by a lucky shot, which sent her falling from the sky.

"CELESTIA!!!!" I started to fly toward Celestia, to catch her but I then got hit by an electric spell from Nightmare Moon. I landed in the throne room and as I started to stand I noticed that Celestia had landed inside as well. "Celestia are you alright?" But as she stood up she didn't answer me.

Then to herself she seemed a bit heartbroken. "Oh dear sister why must you do this? You leave me no choice but to use these." Her horn glowed as a section of the floor retracted and raising up on a pedestal was the Elements of Harmony. "Tia, wait." She stopped and looked at me. "There has be another way."

"I wish there was Logan but there isn't."

And before I could say anything else, she levitated the elements from their places and they started circling around her as their magic activated and she proceeded to fly out the hole in the ceiling.
I followed her out and landed on the roof, and watched as Nightmare Moon unleashed massive blast of dark energy which was met by a blast of rainbow magic from the elements. However, as expected the elements started to overpower her magic and overwhelm her. "Noooooo!!!!" I watched with tears in my eyes as the pony that had been my marefriend for eight years, get sent into the moon.

The next morning...

Dear Celestia I would have stayed until you had woken up but I couldn't stop thinking about Luna. I want you to know that you might not see me for a while, I just need some time to recover from her loss. Hope to see you again one day Celestia. Your friend Dragon Prince Logan.

The Journal

Present day...

POV Luna

"Where did you find this journal Luna?" asked Celestia. "We found it in the library, hidden in a secret niche." Celestia started flipping through it before presenting it to me to look at. "I've never seen a language like have you?" Indeed it was just a mess of runes to me. "Nay, we have not, sister." Celestia started pacing back and forth as she was coming to a decision. "I'll send this to Twilight, perhaps she'll find someway to translate it."

Later in Ponyville...

POV Spike

"Hey Spike can you find me 'The Elements of Harmony Guidebook'?"

"Yeah, why?" I asked.

"I want to see if the elements have any physical effects on their bearers." she replied.

I was about to go get it for Twilight when I felt my stomach clench and in a burst of magical fire a burped up a letter and a worn out book.

"What do we have here?" I watched as Twilight picked up the book and scroll with her magic and start to read the letter.

Dear Princess Twilight, I have sent you an aged journal that Luna had discovered. It is written in a strange and unknown language that neither me or Luna know. I believe that you may be able to translate it. Princess Celestia.

It sounded pretty strange, I mean a language that somepony as old as Celestia and Luna don't know, and yet she thought that Twilight could manage to translate it. Twilight decided that we would head to the Castle of the Two Sisters and look through the library there. On the way we were joined by the rest of our friends, who agreed to help us in our search.

25 minutes later...

We were searching through book after book and had yet to find anything like the language we were looking for. I glanced at the table and noticed that the old book was sitting there. I hadn't got to see what this language looked like, so I picked it up and started to look at it.

Journal of the Dragon Prince
This is my first day writing in this. I decided that it would be a great way to keep track of my feelings and give me someone to vent to without actually talking to anyone or anypony. Anyway, today I met King Solar and Queen Dusk who apparently were good friends of my parents and allowed us to live in Equestria. I also got to meet their daughter, Celestia. She seemed pretty nice and agreed with me in saying that she didn't enjoy being at royal events all the time. I believe I just made my first pony friend.

So who ever this had belonged to was a friend of Celestia's which I found quite interesting.

OK so right now Celestia is getting ready to raise the sun. King Solar believed that she was ready to do so and earn her cutie mark. She getting ready so I'm going to stop for now, at least until she finishes raising the sun.

OK Celestia has finished and sure enough she had earned her cutie mark, which was a sun. She was pretty happy to have earned her cutie mark, now King Solar just needed to teach her everything about the day and some tips & tricks to raising the sun. I returned back home since I didn't need to know these sun tips.

"Spike why are you reading that book?" I looked up the journal to look at Twilight before I replied.

"Well I wanted to see what this language looked like and I guess that I somehow was able to understand it." There was a long pause as nopony said anything.

"OK, then lets head to Canterlot and let Celestia and Luna know about this." she replied.
On the train ride to Canterlot, I continued to read the journal and as I read it I started learning that this desert kingdom was filled with dragons that were friends with ponies. But from what I was reading I started learn that all of this had happened thousands of years ago. 'I wonder if this dragon prince is still alive?' Any further thoughts were halted as we pulled into the station. It was time to see if Celestia and Luna could tell us anything about this dragon prince.

Story of a Friend and a Raising Threat

When we arrived in Canterlot, we went straight to the castle. When we arrived, Celestia and Luna were waiting for us.

"Did you learn anything my little ponies?" Celestia asked. I could tell that she was quite interested to know what we had learned.

"Well first off, Spike was actually to understand the language in it and it was a journal having belonged to a prince." said Twilight.

I opened up the journal and read the first three pages that I had read before, out loud and waited for them to respond after I finished. I noticed that Celestia and Luna seemed somewhat... I don't know sad maybe.

Today is a very special night. Me and Luna are going on our first date. I had managed to convince her that I wanted to have our date at midnight and when midnight rolled around it was almost as beautiful as the night Luna was born. She definitely made sure that tonight looked amazing. I shall write back on how our date went in the morning.

"Spike I need you to tell me if this prince wrote his name into that journal." asked Celestia.

"No he didn't, at least not that I've read but I've learned that this prince is a dragon." I replied.

"WHAT?!" exclaimed Twilight and the others.

"But dragons aren't civilized enough to be writers." stated Rainbow Dash.

I ignored her comment as I refocused on the real topic at hand. "Did the two of you know him? I sounds like he was a close friend of yours."

"He was a close friend of ours. I met him when our parents took me to his kingdom in the western deserts of Equestria. Years later I would take Luna to meet him and the two of us were his closest and only friends. He also considered us to be the sisters he always had wanted." Celestia told us.

"I imagine that Luna's banishment would have taken a toll on him. Did it?" inquired Twilight.

"It did. Afterwords he left a letter explaining that we needed some time to recover from her loss, while I didn't. After he left, I never saw him again."

I stood there with them and I tried to take it in. I was about to ask something but Luna interrupted me.

"Sister there is something that we must confess."

"What is it Luna?"

"We had been the marefriend of Logan before our banishment." Luna informed us.

The silence in the room was present for about five minutes before Celestia spoke.

"Why did you not tell me about this?" she asked, sounding a bit irritated.

"Logan and I had planed to tell you but until too long I was not of right mind."

"Who's Logan?" asked Rarity.

"Logan was the name of the prince of the desert kingdom and author of this journal." explained Celestia.

The doors flew open and a unicorn guard ran in. "Your highness, news from western Equestria. A changeling army is massing on the border of Equestria."

The seven of us stood there as the guard gave Princess Celestia and Luna all the information that was currently available on the changeling army and I could tell that Celestia was forming a plan. Then after the guard left the room she turned to face us.

"Twilight, I would like you and your friends to head to the Tree of Harmony and retrieve the elements. As for you Spike, you and Luna will head to the ruins of the Desert Dragon Kingdom and await the arrival of Twilight and the others."

A Lost Kingdom and a Hidden Prince

POV Unknown

I stood on the balcony watching as a lone figure flying toward the castle. I could recognize it as a Alicorn. In fact I could tell who it was: It was Princess Luna and I noticed that a teenage dragon was riding on her back. 'I guess its time to see if this dragon is the one, and possibly, have a tearful reunion with Luna.'

I turned and headed toward the throne room knowing that one why or another I was meeting or reuniting with someone. As I passed my old chambers I stopped for a moment wondering if I should get my old crown. No, the dragon I used to be was gone now. I had just entered the throne room when I heard two voices conversing with each other.

"I'm going to take a look in here Luna." a male voice said.

"Very well, but keep thy eyes open." replied Luna's beautiful silky smooth voice.

I approached the young dragon as he looked around the old throne room, completely unaware that I was there.

That's when he spotted my father's old crown. It was made of gold with three jewels fitted into it, an emerald and two fire rubies. He picked it up, holding it in his claws as he looked it over.

"This is one nice piece of work."

"Indeed it is." I said, and he in turn spun around to face me.

"It was even better back in the day."

"Who are you? And what are you doing here?" he asked.

"I once lived here until my father placed me inside these crystals hidden deep in the kingdom. I have been in a deep sleep for a thousand years. And your name is?"

"Spike, and are you the dragon prince?"

"I was ,but that part of me is long gone. But tell me Spike what brings you and Princess Luna here?"

"There's a changeling army massing not far from here and we were going to stop them with help from my friends who are the Bearers of the Elements of Harmony." he replied.

'So the elements have found new bearers.' "You know Spike I thought I could feel a certain magical energy emitting from you, but I can now tell that without any doubt that your egg had originated from here." I informed and I watched him trying to process what I had told him.

"But how? How did my egg end up in Canterlot then?"

"I imagine that Celestia finally came here and saw the destruction herself. She probably found your egg hidden away somewhere and took it back with her to Canterlot. How did your egg hatch?"

"Well Celestia had my egg be used for an entrance exam for a unicorn filly, applying for her magic school. The filly managed to hatch my egg but also displayed a great amount of raw magical talent and was made her protegee. That filly's name was Twilight Sparkle and she would become my closest friend."

I was quiet for a moment as I thought it over, but as I was about to respond the sound of hooves clopping on the ancient, cracked stone floor approached. I turned toward the young dragon.

"Spike I need to go."

"Why?"

"Spike, don't tell anypony that you met me, at least not until the changelings are defeated."

"OK."

And with that I took off.

POV Spike

I watched as he disappeared into the shadows and wondered what Twilight and the others would think if they were to meet him. How would Luna and Celestia feel if they reunited with him?

"Spike there you are."

I turned to face Twilight and noticed that she was wearing a set of golden armor which also held the Element of Magic over her chest.

"Did your element make the armor for you?" I asked.

"Yes it did, and it did the same thing with the other elements. Anyway, come on Spike we're about to go over the plan of attack against the army."

So me and Twilight headed back toward the campsite that they had set up. I had stored the crown, that I had picked up in the throne room, in my backpack. When we arrived at the camp I noticed that the others were in fact wearing similar pieces of armor that also had their elements set in the chest pieces.

The rest of the night went on, uneventful although, while the other were discussing plans and tactics, I started reading more of the journal.

Today is the day that has caused a lot of grief for everyone. My mother, Queen Blaze, was heading to Dragiria to suggest a possible alliance with Equestria, but her and all but one of her guards were attacked and killed. Thankfully, Celestia and Luna are here for me and I feel so blessed that I have friends like them. Luna's also thinking of planning our second date and honestly I would love nothing more than to wrap my arms around her and lay in her loving embrace. The guard just told me that the funeral's about to start soon so I'll have to wrap this up, but on another note I pleased to hear that Ruby has laid an egg, it was light purple with dark purple spots. I don't know what it is, maybe my magic stirring or just a gut instinct, but something tells me that Ruby's son or daughter will be different then other dragons here in the Desert Kingdom.

Wow that was quite the eventful entry, but who was this Ruby and what became of her egg? I felt frustrated, if Logan was here then I would have him to say who Ruby was. Before too long I decided that I should get some sleep, so I tucked the journal back into my backpack and used it as a makeshift pillow and was soon fast asleep.

POV Twilight

When we awoke the next morning, Spike received a letter from Princess Celestia informing us that the Captain of the Royal Guards was going to meet up with us and provide us with support during the battle. We all started looking around the castle ruins, deciding to pass the little free time that remained. As we explored I had this strange feeling that we were being watched.

'Its probably just a bird, mouse or lizard. Nothing to be afraid of.'

Spike was still reading that journal, which kinda upset me. So much ancient history could be in there and Spike was the only one who could understand its bizarre language. So I decided to ask him about some of the stuff that he was learning.

"So Spike, learn anything intresting or useful?" I inquired.

"Well, aparantly the prince had helped Celestia and Luna find the Tree of Harmony. He was present when both of them earned their cutie marks, and he was the only dragon at the time to fully embrace and accept the idea of ponies and dragons living together in harmony."

"Really?"

"Yeah... its a shame that his ideals died out."

"Yes it is, but we still have a dragon around that value his ideals."

"But Twilight, I was raised by ponies, I haven't been around dragons my whole life, so how can I truly be a dragon that's living peacefully with ponies?" he asked me.

But before I could respond a black coated Pegasus trotted up to me and I noticed that he was wearing the armor of Captain of the Royal Guard.

"Princess Twilight nice to meet you, Captain Joseph of the Royal Guard. Princess Celestia sent me and a squad of troops her to assist you and the other element bearers."

"Where are your men right now?" I asked.

"Outside preparing for battle, also each one of them has been trained to keep their wits about them and recognize their fellow soldier since as you already know that the changelings can take on the form of anypony." he replied.

2 hours later...

POV Spike

As the day drew to a close, I saw everypony making final preparations for the battle that would unfold tomorrow. But I decided that I would keep reading Logan's journal to pass the time.

Today I'm sitting in the Canterlot Library and I'm feeling concerned for Luna. The past few months I've noticed that she seems slightly more bitter about things which include Celestia's sun and how much ponies value it. I always tell her that me and the dragons of the Desert Kingdom love and value her night and there are ponies that value the night. Anyway she's at the Castle of the Two Sisters and I'm going to go and talk to her. But before I do, I'm leaving my journal here in the library for anydragon who finds it. If the worst shall come then I'll leave it in its hiding place, if not then I will be back for it. As for Ruby's son/daughter I just wish to tell you that I sensed a strong magic within you as an egg and I know that you will go on to achieve some great feats. One last thing, there is a Dragirian history book that I suggest you read, although I suggest reading about the Warriors of Virtue. That information may save Equestria in the future. Signed The Desert Dragon Prince Logan.

I paused for a minute as I took it all in. His last entry, and he had planned to stash his journal no matter what outcome could come from confronting Luna, but of course anyone who knew Equestrian history knew how the confrontation ended. But who was this offspring of of the dragon Ruby that Logan mentioned? And where could I find he or she, that is if they're still alive. As the last rays of sunlight vanished and the night came, I took a moment to admire it. 'Those ponies don't know what their missing. Logan and those other dragons truly knew what to admire and besides I knew that Twilight admired Luna's night cause of her light night studies and she tells me about some particularly beautiful nights. As I laid down to go to sleep I knew that we had a big day ahead of us.

A Dream of the Future

View Online

I found myself in Ponyville and everywhere I looked I noticed that everything was being devoured by shadows. That's when I noticed that I wasn't alone. Four ponies stood with me, although their faces were too blurred for me to make out I saw that there was two mares and two stallions. Two Earth ponies, a Pegasus, and a Unicorn. The Pegasus had a grey coat and blond mane, the Unicorn had a white coat and blue mane, one of the Earth ponies had a red coat and a straw colored mane, and the other Earth pony had a brown coat and chestnut mane. Then a male voice spoke out from an unidentifiable location.

"The ponies you see here Spike will be your closest friends and greatest allies."

"But who are they?"

"You will know when the time is right."

Then I found myself at the Castle of the Two Sisters except, it was completely rebuilt and I was standing with an Alicorn with a midnight blue coat like Luna's and a dark green mane. Then everything faded and morphed into a grassy field.

'Where am I?' That's when I noticed a dark red dragon approaching me. It was a female and I could tell that she had seen a lot in her years.

"Spike I'm so glad to finally meet you." she said.

"How do you know my name? And who are you?"

"Spike, I am your mother. And I've been watching over you since your early years with Ms. Sparkle."

I was stunned, does that mean that the talk of Ruby's egg in Logan's journal was about my egg?

"But why didn't I hatch before the kingdom fell apart?"

"Your father thought it was some kind of curse, as for me I thought that maybe you weren't ready, but Prince Logan thought that it had to do with the magic fields and/or fate."

"Tell me more about Logan."

"He was very adamant toward maintaining a strong relationship with the ponies of Equestria, and he was the most magical gifted dragons since before the fall of the Dragirian Empire."

But before I could ask anything else the field started to fade and warp.

"Spike you're starting to wake up but before I go I will tell you this: Logan will be with you during this battle and afterwords, help him adjust to this new time period and help him reunite with Celestia and Luna."
"OK I will but tell, who are those ponies that appeared here in my dreams?"
"You'll learn soon enough."
