> Desires of the Heart > by Metal Fyre > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > Prologue > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- I was nothing but a simple, lonely Pegasus from Equestria. That all changed when I came across the Crystal Mirror leading to the Equestrian Girls world. I was curious as to why it was out in the open, and what it was, as I was not privy to the going ons of Princess Twilight Sparkle, despite her being one of my only friends. This is the story of how I came to their world, and found my destiny. > Chapter One > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- “Hey Twilight, I was wondering if you were busy and wanted to hang out sometime today?” I ask, as I step through castle doors. Not getting an answer, I figured that she may be in the library, as always, so I continue walking through the castle, giving the occasional guard a nod. They knew me, and knew I wouldn't cause trouble....or much trouble. I finally reach the library, and just as I guessed, there was Princess Twilight Sparkle, muzzle deep in a book. “Hey Twilight, what are you reading?” I ask her, curious as ever. You see, it was my curiosity that often got me into trouble, and in turn, making most ponies give me a wide birth. See, despite my curiosity, and I would like to think, creative mind, I am not very bright, nor am I very intelligent. Some say I am related to miss Hooves, though I know that they are wrong, not just wrong about us being related, but wrong about her not being bright. Despite her often clumsy demeanour, that she is rather bright, just misunderstood. Twilight looks up from her book “Oh hello there Swift Quill, I didn't hear you come in, I'm just reading up on the Sirens.” Twilight says as I poke my head over her shoulder. “Interesting, they seem like they could be quite the powerful enemy if they ever come back” I say out loud, quite dumbly actually. I sigh and look around the library, trying to figure out what else to say, that is when the mirror caught my eye. “Hey Twilight, what's this?” I ask, walking up to it and poking my hoof at it. Twilight looks up again, “That's the Crystal Mirror, it leads to another world. I only use it in case of emergencies though” she says, going back to her reading. This peaked my curiosity once again and I poked my hoof through it, “huh that's odd” I whisper to myself, and just then, a thought enters my mind, “Well, I'm quite lonely here, with only Twilight and the others as my friends.” I sigh, and was just about to walk away from it, as Rainbow Dash blasts through the doors in a rush, obviously excited about something, and in my shock. I stumble backwards and fall through the mirror. “Whoa!” I shout as I fall. Twilight hears my shout and rushes to the mirror, but it was too late, just as I fall through the mirror, it closes on the Equestria end. When I regained consciousness from my fall, I woke to find that my hooves were replaced with...hands.. “what the?” I think to myself, as I get used to my hands. I then wobbly stand up, and notice that I am wearing rather grungy clothes, which consisted of a pair of dirty looking dark grey jeans, a black top with a cross on it and leather jacket. I reach up to feel my mane, and feel a pair of aviators. I shrug, “well, I can't look any worse than I did back in Equestria” I say as I shakily walk off to what looked like a hall of some sort. Ponies, or should I say people, in this case, gave me a wide berth, most likely because of how I looked or because I was new. Sighing, I reach the stallion's room and look in the mirror. My black mane was now longer than ever and covering one side of my face. “huh, what do you know, that's different” I say as I look in a full size mirror, poking my hoof at it “nope, just a normal mirror” I think and take a look at myself “well hey, I don't look too bad” I think once more, then leaving the restroom. Feeling kind of lost, and alone, I wander around, and find a spot to hide and cry. It was in the music room, which suited me just fine as it was empty and music usually did help calm me down. So I found a spot near the guitars and curled up to cry. That is when I saw her. A cream coloured girl with red and yellow hair, walks right into the music room and picks up a guitar. She too looked lonely, and was wearing similar clothing to myself. I smile weakly as I listen to her play. The song she was playing was a sad melody of loneliness and desperation for someone to pay attention to her. I couldn't stand it any longer, knowing full too well how she felt. Wiping the tears from my eyes and face, I stand up, and try to smile “H...hello, I heard you playing and singing and well...” I stutter a little, she truly was beautiful, but I didn't even know her, “I...I just wanted to tell you that, I know all too well how you feel.” I say meekly. The girl then drops the guitar in surprise and gasps “O..oh I'm sorry, I didn't know anyone else was in here, I..I'll just go” she says sadly and beings to walk out of the room. I don't know what compelled me to do so, but I reached out and grabbed her hand, “No, please don't go. I...I don't want to be alone again” I say, then letting go of her arm, “I..I'm Swift Quill, I..I just kind of arrived here from...” “From Equestria” the girl finishes for me, as I nod “Well, you best get ready for a long wait, the portal has most likely closed and won't open for another thirty moons” she says, reaching her hand out “I'm Sunset Shimmer by the way” she says, as I shake her hand. My weak smile soon turns to a more sincere one “N..nice to meet you, and yes, I kind of fell through it if you would believe me. Was visiting Twilight and saw the mirror, then Dash comes flying through the doors, starling me and I stumbled into it.” I chuckle a little, as did Sunset Shimmer. She then smiles at me, “Wow, what a beautiful smile” I think to myself, then my stomach grumbles, “Oh, uh, sorry about that?” I kind of blush. Sunset laughs “Oh don't worry about it, I'm quite hungry myself. How about we grab some lunch and then I show you around? It'll be nice to have someone to talk to for once” she says and beings leading the way to the lunch room. I smile as I follow her, thinking that maybe this new place wasn't so bad after all. “S..Swift...No...This is not good!” Twilight starts to panic, and writes a letter to Princess Celestia. That was the last I saw of her and my other friends, or so I thought. > Chapter Two > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- There I was, in the lunch room, sitting opposite the most beautiful girl I had ever seen, and what's more, is that she and I are friends. I couldn't believe my luck. “How in Equestria did I go from lonely stallion to luckiest guy in the world?” I whisper to myself, as I sit and watch her eat her lunch. “Not gonna eat anything?” she asks me, as she looks up at me with those beautiful blue eyes and luscious long eye lashes of hers. I look down, and see that I hadn't touched my burger what so ever. I smile and pick it up to start eating. I smile at her “This place seems so..strange” I say, munching on my burger and fries. “But you know, now that I am here, I wouldn't go back” I say, still gazing at her, I swallow my mouthful and put my burger down. “So Sunset, if you don't mind me asking, but, how come a beautiful girl like you is so lonely?” She sighs as she puts her food down and looks away, “I'm not very well liked here, or in Equestria. You see, back in Equestria, my parents, or more like my father, pressured me to be at my 'best', and things just got worse when I was named Princess Celestia's student. My father pushed and pushed me to become the next ruler of Equestria...” she trails off, but I was lost in what she was saying. “Go on” I mumble, trying to swallow my next mouthful at the same time. “...I had no interest in friendship, compassion or even love. All I could focus on was my studies and becoming the next Alicorn princess...Celestia, as compassionate as she is, tried her best to get me to make friends and be more compassionate, but it was futile at that time. That is when she showed me the mirror, and I saw my future..or at least I thought I did. After a argument with her, I grabbed what little I had from my room and came through to here... And well..tried to take over the school.. so yeah...” she finishes, I gasped, I couldn't believe all this, no way could it be true. I reach over and place my hand over hers with a soft smile “Well. I...I like you” I say, looking into her eyes, “Believe it or not, back in Equestria, my only friends were Twilight and the others. Not many ponies liked me, they always joked I was...slow and stupid. So I spent most of my time in Twilight's library.” I sigh. She finishes her meal and shakes her beautiful long hair, “Even in Equestria, ponies can be cruel. Come on, I'll show you around.” she says getting up and offering a hand up, I smile as I gladly accept it. Sunset started with showing me the classrooms and the library, I smile as I contemplate holding her hand, but then I thought better of it. She probably just wants a friend right now. As we continue to walk the halls of the high school, people started whispering and looking at me strangely. I notice a certain other guy with short slicked back blue and white hair glaring at me. That is when I decided to get closer to Sunset. She looks at me then over at the other guy and shakes her head “Hey Flash, we broke up ages ago! Besides, shouldn't you be focussing on Twilight?” she asks him, and he rubs the back of his neck and nods. “Y...yeah but.. who is this?” he asks, pointing to me, “I don't like the look of him” Sighing I shrink back a bit and hide behind my hair again. Sunset then grabs my hand and pulls me away from Flash. I sigh both happily as I was finally holding hands with her, but also in sadness. “And here I thought I could start a new life” I whisper. “Come on, lets go to the soccer pitch. We can be alone there” she says, dragging me outside. A...alone? I gulp, did that mean what I thought it meant? Just her and me, talking, perhaps even...cuddling? Did she..did she really like me like that? Only time could tell. I couldn't believe my luck, Sunset was taking me to somewhere more...secluded so that we could, would you believe it, be alone. I smile as I allow her to hold my hand and drag me outside. At this stage, I couldn't care less about the whispers, and by the look on Sunset's face, neither did she. I nearly giggled as all of this happening. We soon reach the soccer pitch and she sits down on the bleachers, petting the spot next to her. Happily, I sit down and look at her. “It is quite nice here, oh is that Rainbow Dash? You remember how I told you the Equestria version of her was the cause of me coming here?” I laugh Sunset laughs too, “Oh yeah, to be honest, it doesn't surprise me that she'd do something like that” she smiles at me. “You know, it is really nice to have someone who understands what it is to be lonely to talk to.” I nod in response “I know how you must have felt. Being ostracised and not having many, if any, friends to be around. It isn't nice” I say and out of impulse, I lift my arm up and drape it over her shoulder, holding her close. She didn't even flinch or try to get out of it, no, instead she snuggles closer and rests her head on my shoulder as we watch a match between one of the guys from the soccer team going against Rainbow Dash. I smile as I hold her closer to me, feeling the fluttering of her heart beat against my body and then, the unexpected happens. She leans up and kisses my cheek. I blush heavily and kiss her back, stroking her hair. I do not know how I got this lucky, but I sure am not going to question it. Today was surely the luckiest day of my life, and it was just about to get better.
