> A Royal Upgrade > by Gamers Dream > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > A Royal Upgrade > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- It had been a long day, and when the bells started ringing, Twilight Sparkle let out a long sigh of relief. The young lavender unicorn had been acting for a long time until the bell had rang and Twilight's throat felt parched. She let out a small cough and stood tall, walking down the stage and out of the watching eye of the camera. Twilight then ran her hoof through her dark purple mane, feeling how soft it was. She gazed around, looking for a certain pony until her eyes rested on a small stallion walking toward her with a happy smile on his face. The young stallion was round, with a pale green pelt, his mane was a swampy green, and lastly his eyes were a gentle and light blue. He stared up at Twilight, waiting for her to do something. "Ahh, there you are Swampy, just the stallion I was looking for. Please get me a glass of water, I am thirsty," Twilight asked, waving her hoof to dismiss the small stallion. The stallion, Swampy nodded and ran off, hurrying to get the leading actress her water. Despite being short in the leg the green pony was speedy, for he knew he shouldn't loiter. Twilight watched him go, then added, "And make sure it is sparkling! I don't want to drink the water of those low class ponies!" "Yes ma'am!" Swampy shouted back over his shoulder before heading on his way. Twilight smiled, knowing that her assistant would do fine job, besides getting water was a task that was not easy to mess up. She appreciated the assistant for he was an obedient and hard worker, which was what she asked for. When the director had got back to her, bringing along with him the pale green stallion, she was not pleased, but now she had adjusted and appreciated the tasks he did. It didn't take long for Swampy to come back with a water bottle full of fresh and clean water. The label said sparkling in blue letters with a water-like granite, which made people think it was clean. With a few quick movements Swampy twisted off the cap and passed it to Twilight, watching her with hopeful eyes. The actress smiled happily and took the bottle from her kind assistant, bringing it up to her lips to take a sip. A smile stretched across her face and she glanced at her assistant as he waited for some sort if appraisal. She wanted to just sigh and give her dog something to chew on, but she bit her tongue and thought of an appropriate appraisal for her assistant. It took her a little bit to think of a great comment, "Swampy you did a great job, thank you for getting me my water, you are dismissed." "Of course, sweet princess," Swampy said softly before scuttling off. Twilight was surprised, but still flushed at the compliment Swampy gave her. She always like compliments, even if it came from a bulky pony like Swampy, but this compliment did something else to her. The lavender pony hadn't realized how much better the character she played could be, until now. The character had been based around her appearance, but with a personality that wasn't all the same. She thought of how her neighbor always talked about her fillies being so excited whenever a princess came on screen, so why not have that excitement at all times! Twilight's smile widened, hoping the director would be pleased with the idea for a royal upgrade would be magnificent. Twilight knew one thing though, she would get this upgrade, even if it was the last thing she would do. She couldn't help imagine how great it would be to be called Princess Twilight Sparkle on stage and know all the excitement the viewers would have over it. With a smile on her face, she head towards the director's quarters to see what Sweet Words was up to. Sweet Words was the director and creator of the show, and one of the very few ponies Twilight looked up to, mostly because Sweet Words had been her father's best friend and was considered family. This was the main reason she played a character very similar, making her feel constant flattery. The two had become very close when Twilight had decided to become an actress, giving Sweet the thought to give him her a large opportunity. His idea had worked, making both ponies very successful in the line of show business. She smiled widely at the memory and trotted towards the director's office, where Sweet headed after each recording was finished. Twilight knew this very well, since Sweet always wanted to evaluate everypony's performance in the privacy of his office. He often said it was best to make sure everypony is doing well, instead of missing something that could ruin the series. With that in mind, Twilight hurried to his office to make her proposal that could improve the show. When she approached the door, she approached cautiously, listening to make sure no pony was already speaking him. When she heard nothing she gave the door and gentle, but audible knock to make sure she wouldn't intrude on an awkward moment. "Come in," a voice called from the other side of door. Twilight slowly opened the door and found herself facing a navy stallion hunched over a wooden desk, looking at a few papers scattered before him. His mane was dark purple and as he glanced up Twilight could see the familiar sky blue eyes she had looked up to. When he saw Twilight, a smile formed on his lips and he straighten his back, making him look more professional and more approachable. "Oh, Twilight, please take a seat and tell me why your here," he said, acknowledging the presence of the lavender unicorn. "Well Sweet, I have gotten a perfect idea for the show! I know everypony will just love it!" Twilight exclaimed, taking a seat in the chair across the desk. "Well, what is it?" Sweet asked curiously, his eyes focused on Twilight. "Well, Mrs. Monarch, my neighbor, told me how excited her fillies get when a princess comes on stage, so I thinking-" Twilight was cut off before she could finish. "You were thinking that you should become a princess," Sweet finished her sentence with a quiet groan and then continued. "Twilight, I think it is best we don't add another princess, besides, how are we going to get you wings? It was hard enough rounding up a few alicorns to play the princess roles." Twilight paused and thought about the issue for a moment, then suggested, "there is always magic! Remember, Sparkling Gem got those beautiful wings, and that spell wasn't too hard either." "Good point, but how would the fans react? They have always known you as an element of harmony, and you would be rather powerful if you had both," Sweet objected, leaning back in his chair to think a little bit more about the decision. Twilight sat in her chair quietly, trying to think of something that would make Sweet want her character to become a princess. She reminded herself of what happened during the many seasons of the show and how important the elements had been, but what if they were too important? Why were they the solution to many of the problems that came to the imaginary kingdom? Twilight pondered a second longer, and then a solution came to mind. "Why don't we retire the elements? I mean, we can do many other things, like making me a princess," Twilight paused to think of a point that would back her up further. When one came to mind, she happily added, "besides, it was never explained how Luna and Celestia got the elements in the first place. The fans will get curious eventually and having a reason would make the show more interesting." Sweet looked down at his deck for a moment, pondering the very idea of retiring the elements of harmony. They had been a magical solution to many probably that made filly's eyes widen as they saw them enter the screen, making them anxious to see how they would be used to combat evil. Sweet sighed, unsure if he would be able to surrender the one thing that started the series and making it useless. "But the elements started the series, them being important has always made me proud to know I have created something," Sweet explained, looking directly at Twilight. Twilight felt terrible after Sweet had said that, she felt terrible for trying to change something that was so dear to her friends heart. However, this didn't stop of her ambition yet, and she had one last idea up her sleeve. From her disappointed frown came a confident smile and she looked into Sweet's eyes. "What if they weren't useless? What if they brought something even more important to Equestria then they would ever have?" Twilight asked. Sweet paused, thinking of a way to give Twilight what she wanted. After pondering for a few minutes, it all came to him. A long smile forged onto his face and he looked at his good friend at the one end of the table. "Well Twilight, you get to become a princess, but leave me to write, I need to think of a script," Sweet said, making a decision. Twilight smiled, moving around the desk to give her friend a nice hug. It was quick, but sweet, and afterwards left the office to let the director/creator do their work. From that moment on, her character became known as Princess Twilight Sparkle, also known as the Princess of Friendship. The decision had been a good one, and many of the fans enjoyed the new princess.
