Defeat is never something you should admit when you are a ruler of any variety, much less a Queen, but that's exactly what Chrysalis was thinking about now. This close, this close, she had the ruler of Equestria at her mercy, the supposed saviors of Equestria defeated by her minions, and to top it all off mere seconds from having enough food to feed both her and her subjects for centuries. Her subjects, talk about something she could be proud of, she looked at them resting in the other room as she was reflecting on her defeat in her own kingdom, a dank place in the middle of no where but not to far from Equestria. She smiled at her subjects, these brave little changelings did everything to make sure that she ruled over all those ponies and stealing all the love and magic for her rule. Sometimes she wonders what happened when she was young to get such wonderful little subjects. However, her mind suddenly drifted, and she started to think about how she failed them.

There is no sugar coating it, she failed. She failed to feed her subjects, her children of change. She sighed quietly to herself as she walked around the castle looking at her subjects. This should have been easy, infiltrate, absorb, and leave the broken loveless husk of a country to move on to another one. Who would have thought she would have fallen to the very thing she feeds on? Love, they lost to love, that's like a sandwich beating the fudge out of someone eating it. It made no sense to her, she sighed as a memory came flooding back in.

"Chrysalis what is a Queen supposed to be?" said another changeling queen who looked a lot like Chrysalis.

Chrysalis looking a lot younger said in an adorable voice. "Protector of her subjects, a ruler like no other, the strongest of all, and who can never, ever fail!"

The other changling Queen said "Good my daughter, now tell me. Our subjects, what do we think of them"

Chrysalis smirked and said "Our subjects are the mightiest and anyone who doesn't think like that falls under our power." She said with glee.

"That's my girl" Her mother said patting her head. "Soon, they will all kneel before you I know you are ready"

Chrysalis took off her crown and looked at it for a little bit, as her thoughts drifted back and forth to her mother. She looked at it somberly and then heard a rustling. She turned and looked seeing her Changelings now awake. "Rest, we need rest, the defeat and flight back was to long for us not to my changeling darlings" They all looked at her in silence, one then turned into her mother which caused Chrysalis to jump back a bit. "What...what are you doing in that form?!"

"My queen" the Changeling said "You know your subjects don't have tongues worthy enough to speak to you, so this form is something that is necessary to say something on our minds to you"

Glaring Chrysalis said "Fine, just keep it brief, that form is not worthy of you to take for as long as you have already" Her eyes looking away from that form. "I am not worthy to look at that form right now"

The Changeling walked to her and said "If that is what you wish your majesty, so shall it be." It then asked "Are you well your majesty?"

"Of course I am! How dare you ask something like that to your queen!" Chrysalis said with venom in her voice. "It was a minor set back nothing more" She said looking away from the changeling.

It asked "My Queen, are you sure that this is true?" She glared at the changeling, her eyes twitching "My Queen, are you okay?"

"Get out of my sight, and leave me be right now!" She said getting increasingly more irritated. "Rest, that is an order, obey your queen!" She shouted at them as they shrunk away, getting more and more afraid by the second. She glared at them as they backed into the room, the changeling turning into it's original form. Chrysalis closed the door in anger and growled sitting down. "They don't understand" She said quietly, as she looked at the crown, with another memory crossing her mind.

"This is the day Lady Chrysalis" Her mother said as she patted her head. "The day you become the Queen of the entire Changelings, what are you going to do?"

She smirked "I'm going to get as much love as possible, making sure our subjects are the best!"

Chrysalis felt her mother's crown getting placed on her head. "Well Queen Chrysalis, my last advice to you is this. Our subjects are some of the most loyal creatures in all of the world." She smiled and said "You wear this crown well Chrysalis, I'm so proud of you"

Chrysalis smiled and said "I love you mommy" She hugged her leg, and her mother smiled and patted her back.

Her mother smiled and said "I love you too, and I know you'll be a great queen who will never fail.

Chrysalis sighed and looked at her crown. "You were wrong mother, I failed, I failed myself, my subjects everything" A few tears escaped her eyes quietly, as she heard an changeling changing shape. She turned and said "I said to leave me..." She paused and stopped mid sentence as she saw that she was alone. She could have sworn she heard one of her changelings changing shape. She then looked down and saw a tissue there, and saw smoke coming out of it. She walked forwards, and couldn't help but giggle as the eyes on the changeling was showing and the tissue. She smiled and used it to wipe her eyes. "You really are loyal aren't you?" The changeling turned back to normal and nodded. She said "Do you care that I failed?" It shook it's head no. She smiled and said "Thank you very much, but I do need to be alone"

She smiled as the changeling left, all be it a little wetter than it was before. Chrysalis was kinda laughing, something she hadn't done since she got here. It was, uplifting. She then started to think about the changelings, and how loyal they have been, they kept trying so hard just for her. Loyalty and power like that, sometimes, it's good to be reminded what she is. She is the Queen of Changelings, nothing more. She stood up and walked to the door and opened the changelings quickly bowing. She said calmly "Rise." She said "My changelings, we suffered a minor setback in Canterlot" She cracked her neck. "That is fine, nothing more than that a minor set back" She smiled and said "Soon we will recover, steal the love from some lesser kingdom, than make all of Equestria kneel before the Queen!" The Changelings began cheering as they knew, glory was in front of them.
