Thorn of the Earth

A large object crashes into Ponyville. This story consists of documents, records and verbal accounts surrounding this event.

Author Note: Thorn of the Earth is getting cancelled, however this is merely because at some point in the future I plan on rebooting it as I have grown in my writing talent and I believe a reboot would be better for it.

One day a large object falls from the sky and crashes into Ponyville. While the town still remains a large portion of it has been destroyed by the alien object. This story consists of documents, records, and verbal accounts surrounding this event, taking place before and after the impact.

The story is much like a "found footage" story. It was also slightly inspired by a few videos I have seen such as Earth to Echo (except without the cute little robot/alien thing) and District 9 (except without the foul language, brutality, and prawns).

Also I made the image using GIMP.

Note: The story takes place after the events of the Season 4 finale.

Three weeks prior to impact

Dear Princess Celestia,

Today me and my friends went out star gazing. While we were looking up Rainbow Dash pointed to a rather bright star in the heavens and asked me what it was called. When I looked at my star chart I noticed that the star wasn't on it.

Now I will have to check the crystal library to check and see if it might be on another star chart. However there is a possibility that this could be a new star we discovered.

After making this discovery I asked my friends what they would call it if it was indeed a new star? It took a while to convince Rainbow Dash to call it anything that didn't pertain to either the Wonderbolts or herself. In the end Rainbow Dash decided to call it Blazer. Pinkie thought of the name Minty while Rarity thought of the name, Dantimus. Applejack thought up a name that referred to apples, which in turn made Rainbow Dash mad saying, "it isn't fair that you can name it after something you like and I can't!"

Spike did try to call it Dracos and was disappointed when I pointed out that there was already a constellation with the same name. Fluttershy said she didn't care what it was called. Saying that whatever name it had wouldn't be a bright as it was. Personally I decided to withhold naming it until after I found out if it is actually a new star or not.

Perhaps I can try talking to Princess Luna concerning this. Considering that she controls the night sky she should have some good knowledge on this matter.

Around two in the morning all of us headed home. Since Spike had come with us I had asked him to send you this letter. Hopefully you are reading this later in the morning as opposed to three o clock.

Sincerely,

Princess Twilight Sparkle

Two weeks, six days prior to impact

Dear Celestia,

I fear this could be urgent. It is nine in the morning and that star I mentioned last night is still in the sky. Not only have I discovered that the star isn't on any of the star charts in the library but also that the object isn't a star at all. The light of a star flickers while the light of planets, moons and other extra terrestrial bodies do not.

After making this discovery I set up my telescope in an attempt to discover what it might be. While I can't focus the telescope well enough to produce a proper image I have deduced that it object is long and rod shaped. Also according to the way it is moving it should be nearing Equus soon.

To make matters worse there are already several doomsday criers running about the streets, declaring that this star is a sign of impending doom.

I strongly suggest that the princess have a meeting concerning this situation as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Princess Twilight Sparkle

Later that day in Canterlot Castle
The following information was documented by the royal scribe Ink Well as he documented the events that went on during the Princesses' meeting.

"So you believe this object could be a threat?" Princess Celestia asked.

"Possibly," Twilight said, "However I figure it wouldn't hurt to take precautions. The appearance of this object could have a huge impact not just for Equestria but for our planet as a whole."

"Indeed," Luna spoke, "if this object were to crash into either Equus or the moon it would drastically effect life here on this planet. By hitting the moon the oceans would become more wild and an impact on Equus could create enough ash to bloat out the sun for years. Even with the Pegasi cleaning the air using their weather control it would take months for the skies to be clear again."

"Well hopefully it won't come to that, "Twilight said, "according to my calculations the object might just pass by our planet without causing any harm. However as I stated before it would be wise to prepare for such an event."

"Very well," Celestia spoke, "however I have something I need you to do Twilight."

"What is it?" Twilight asked.

"Now I know that you are no longer my student," Celestia said, "The only reason I am giving you this assignment is because it pertains to this situation. I need you to look through the royal library for a book called, Star Watch. It was written years ago by Star Swirl the bearded, who crafted a spell that would allow the caster to follow the path of any extraterrestrial body. I want you to use this spell so that you keep track the object. If the object passed by then you may deactivate the spell, however if the object changes course you will be the first to know, and it will be your responsibility to let us know."

"I understand." Twilight said, who finally started to relax.

"Now Princess Cadence," Celestia said, turning to the pink alicorn, "during Sombre's reign of terror he had mining tunnels made to mine the crystals in the empire. Do you think you might be able to re-purpose these tunnels to serve as bunkers for the worst case scenario?"

Cadence nodded, "I will set about doing that once I return home."

Celestia turned to her sister, "Do you have a means to protect the moon in case the object comes near it."

"While I am no longer Nightmare Moon, I do believe I know a few spells that I have created around that time, that could be used in such an event." Luna replied.

With that the meeting was concluded.

Back at the Crystal Castle

Dear Princess Celestia,

I have just casted the spell that will alert me to the objects movement. If the object deviates from the path I will receive a mental warning. After which I will check my telescope and confirm if the object has indeed changed its course.

Just thought you would like to remain informed.

Sincerely,

Princess Twilight Sparkle

One week and three days before impact

Dear Princess Celestia,

I have some terrible news. This morning I awoke as a terrible pain throbbed through my skull. At first I thought it was just a migraine until I realized it was the alarm spell going off. Urgently I pulled out the telescope and set it up to look at the object. When I found the object in the view-finder, I was shocked to see that it had made a complete loop and had started moving towards the moon.

I would strongly recommend that inform Luna so that she will do something to prevent the object from crashing into the moon.

Sincerely,

Princess Twilight Sparkle

Picture found pertaining to the Object

This is a photograph showing Scootaloo, Apple Bloom and Sweetie Bell smiling at the camera, while pointing at the bright spark in the sky.

It should be noted that at the time that this photo was taken that the Ponyville schoolhouse had cancelled classes for the day due to the appearance of this phenomena. As a result the Cutie Mark Crusades ran around Ponyville continuing their crusade to find their cutie marks. This included playing various games, eating a few sweets at Sugar Cube Corner, being harassed by Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, and hanging out at their clubhouse.

Later that night
The following events are based off of a verbal account given to us by Princess Luna herself.

Princess Luna stood looking up at the moon from her tower in Canterlot. It was her moon, it had been given to her by her sister, Celestia long ago to serve as a guardian in the night. To be a light source to guide the creatures of the dark and to aid the way word travel to the sanctuary of their home. In her youth Luna hadn't understood the responsibility she had as a guardian of the night and had abused this gift to become Nightmare Moon. Despite this when Luna had returned her sister had forgiven and had let her keep her gift as a guardian of the night. Now something was posing a threat to that gift.

In response to Twilight's letter Luna made preparations to remove the treat the object posed to her moon. She already had a few ideas of what she would do. One was to simply send an energy beam and destroy the object entirely. However this method would require a large amount of magic and the debris from the object could come crashing down on their heads. Also if she missed she could possibly damage the moon resulting in the same hazard they were trying to prevent.

The best solution for this problem would be to create a shield around the moon. That way the object would bounce off back into space. Of course the spell for this method would also take a large amount of energy to cast.

Luna's horn glowed blue as she pooled the energy to cast the spell. Then she aimed her horn at the moon and casted the spell as she did a long beam of light shot forth. Upon coming in contact with the moon the blue light enveloped the round stone before dissipating. Luna knew that while she couldn't see the spell shielding the sphere she knew it was there as she felt the magic being slowly drained from her.

The Alicorn would have to hold out until this event transpired then she could stop fueling the spell with her magic. While the night had barely started the spell had taken a lot out of Princess Luna, so she decided to go to bed early.

Message from Rarity to Applejack

Dear Applejack,

Due to the recent events regarding the star in the day sky, I was wondering if it would be alright for Sweetie Bell to stay with your family for a while? At least for a few weeks until this dastardly thing is sorted out.

I seriously hope you don't mind. If it is an issue I will try to find somewhere else for Sweetie to stay. I will be waiting for your response.

With love,

Rarity

While it isn't included in this report, Applejack did reply back to Rarity, saying it was okay for Sweetie Bell to stay with the Apple family until things cooled down.

One Week before impact

Dear Princess Celestia

I fear that the situation has become worse. Once again I had a migraine in response to the spell I have been casting to monitor the movement of the object and it appears that the shield Luna erected around the moon has only made matters worse. The path of the object has changed and now it is heading for Equestria. If my calculations are correct then the object will be crashing near Ponyville. It also doesn't help that Pinkie Pie's tail won't stop twitching.

I will approach the Major later to discuss plans to evacuate the town in case my predictions are correct. We may need to evacuate the town, however we need to be careful in the manner we do this as panic could make the problem worse. However I also think we should have another meeting to discuss this situation as I have more important information that needs to be brought forward that I can't rely by letter.

Hope to hear back from you soon. Spike will be by my side to ensure that I will receive any messages you send me.

Sincerely,

Princess Twilight Sparkle

Six days until impact
This is another document written by the royal scribe, Ink Well documenting the meeting between the princesses.

"I don't understand," Luna said, "I was certain that the spell would reflect the object away."

"You are right Luna it should have," Twilight said as she pulled out a chart board with a diagram on it, "at the angle the object was moving it should have bounced off back into space. However it appears that upon impacting the shield the object changed course."
The chart shows the object falling from the sky towards ponyville.

"So the shield had little to no effect?" Celestia asked.

"Not exactly." Twilight said, flipping the page of the chart board to show another hastily drawn sketch, "It seems that the object was damaged when it made contact with Luna's shield. Then it started moving like how Luna had predicted but somehow was able to redirect itself."
The chart shows the long object bouncing off of the shield surrounding the moon. The object is also partially broken with little pieces around it.

"In your message Twilight you said it would crash in Ponyville," Celestia said, pointing at the chart, "do you have any calculations on how much damage it would cause on impact?"

Twilight flips another page of the chart, "Well, based off the size of the object, the velocity, and its speed the object should create a crater with a ridge-line near the corner of the Everfree Forest."

"Do you have any recommendations on how to address this situation," Celestia asked, "seeing as it is your home that is threatened?"

"It doesn't seem possible to prevent the object from destroying Ponyville," Twilight said, as she flipped another page of the chart, "however there is a safe location where the citizens of Ponyville could evacuate to. A couple of years ago there was a dragon that sleep in a mountain near Ponyville. As you may recall my friends and I were sent on a mission to negotiate with the dragon to leave and sleep elsewhere, as its snoring would engulf the land in smoke. My friends and I succeeded and while the dragon is gone the large cave still remains."
The image on the chart merely shows the image telling this tale.

"I think it would be wise to evacuate the citizens of Ponyville to this cave to wait until impact. Afterwards we can return and begin the task of rebuilding Ponyville."

"And what of the glass castle that came from the box of harmony?" Celestia asked.

Twilight sighed, "while it will be a shame to lose it the safety of the village is more important then the preservation of the glass castle."

To everyone's shock Celestia began to clap her hooves together at this conclusion.

"I am very proud of you Twilight," Celestia spoke, "while being in a position of authority you choose to save the lives of your subjects rather then the safety of your possessions."

"Is there anything we can do to save it?" Luna asked.

"A shielding spell should work," Twilight thought inquisitively, "It wouldn't have to be a strong one like the one that you used to protect the moon. I might do some research on this, however it would be wise just to assume the worse and to evacuate the town and take anything of importance with us."

"Have you told the mayor of this plan." Celestia asked.

"Yes, and she has already issued orders for the citizens of Ponyville to begin evacuating."

"Then I suggest Twilight that you return home and begin packing."

Five days until impact - Pinkie Pie's Diary Entry #1
Note: this technically is not Pinkie's 1st entry, however it is the first entry from her diary that pertains to the events in this report. This is true for all journal entries in this report.

Dear Diary,

Due to the evacuation orders given by the mayor everyone has been moving around crazily the last few days. The Cakes have been sooo busy with preparations to leave. It is definitely a good thing that I am here to help them or else they would wear out from all the preparations and the twins.

However I have been having some strange dreams as of late. I am not sure if it has something to do with my Pinkie Sense. Considering that an event like this hasn't happened before it could very well be a new "twitch".

In my dream I am in a strange forest full of some strange green fog. In the dream I am chasing something in the forest. I can't tell if it is another pony or something else. I keep chasing it but it is always out of reach. When I am out of air it just stands there watching me, almost as it is studying me. The chase continues and it isn't usually until I have stopped for breath three times that I wake up.

It isn't really a bad dream. Bad dreams have monsters and sharp things in them. However the fact that I have had the dream continually for the last few days is unusual.

Oh one of the twins is crying again. I have to go.

If the dream changes I will let you know.

Applejack's Diary Entry #1

Dear Diary,

I must say this event couldn't have come at a better time. What I mean is that we have already finished harvesting all the apples for the season so we are practically ready to evacuate. We have just enough apples and apple accessories to feed all of the refugees.

Big Mac worries about Granny Smith's health that she might not make it to the cave, however I think he is just being pessimistic. She has been through worse events then this before so she should be alright. After all it wasn't too long ago that she swimming in the river with the three of us youngins.

Seeing as most of the work around the farm has been done I have been helping my friends prepare to leave. Today I have been helping Fluttershy with her animals. In all my years I never knew she had so many animals in her house. Fluttershy is insistent that she takes all of them to the cave. That she have better start packing and taking up the animals up the mountain if she wishes for their safety. After a couple of hours of organizing different animal foods and putting the animals in safe transportation containers Fluttershy started to climb the mountain. Rainbow Dash volunteered to help her up the mountain and would return to help the others once Fluttershy was comfortably in the cave.

Oddly enough Rainbow Dash didn't have much to take with her. I had expected her to grab a bunch of Wonderbolts paraphernalia to take with her. Maybe she had them shipped to Cloudsdale or somethin. Apparently Scootaloo will be going to the cave with her.

Pinkie has been helping the Cakes and doesn't seem to need my help. Twilight and Spike were able to gather up most of the books she had in the Crystal Castle. Her library is still fairly large despite how many books she lost when Tirek destroyed the original library.

Once everything is packed we should be ready to go.

My next entry in this diary should be after this event resolves.

Two days before impact

Dear Princess Celestia,

Today all the ponies from Ponyville made it safely to the cave. Filthy Rich complained saying he should get more space however once it was revealed to him that there were larger families then his with the same amount of space as him he stopped complaining. However it should be noted that the cave isn't overly crowded. If anyone is terribly crowded it is Fluttershy and her animals.

Thanks to the Apple family, the Cakes and a few of the other farming families in Ponyville we have enough food to last us until the impact is over.

Since the cave on the mountain is outside of the object's blast radius meaning that we will be able to observe the impact safely. Once the impact is made I will do some magical tests to see if the area is safe, if it is then we shall return to rebuild our homes.

Hopefully once this is all settled everyone can go home and rebuild.

Sincerely,

Princess Twilight Sparkle

Impact

View Online

One hour before impact
The following information was collected from verbal accounts.

The ponies looked up in the sky and watched as the object fell to earth. It was long and black but whither this was from the heat generated from the atmosphere or if that was the original color of the object is unknown.

Twilight looked puzzled as she observed the falling object. Something her friends noticed.

"What is it dear?" Rarity asked.

"The object's speed," Twilight said, "it is falling much slower then I had anticipated."

"What do you mean?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"The object should be falling much faster," Twilight replied, "yet it almost seems like it is trying to slow its fall."

"That doesn't make any sense," Pinkie said, in a still cheery mood, "when rocks fall they can't do anything about it. Even Maud's rock knows that!"

"Your right Pinkie," Twilight replied, looking up at the falling object, "it doesn't."

Two minutes before impact

The six mares along with a few of the other cave occupants watched as the object came crashing down upon their home. Bits of debris from the falling object came showing down upon the town. Puffs of smoke rose into the air from where the debris landed and crashed into the buildings.

The ponies watched in horror as the object like a giant thorn came down an pierced the flesh of the earth, creating a large gash in Ponyville. A large sound wave spread out from the impact, speeding out in all directions. The ponies in the mouth of the cave flinched as the wave hit them. While not dangerous the wave caused many of their ears to ring. Minutes passed before realization settled in. The object had crashed into Ponyville yet the town still stood.

"How?" Twilight asked, looking puzzled at the town.

"Yay!" Pinkie Pie yelled, "The town is still there."

Despite the joy everyone felt at their home surviving the impact Twilight just kept looking at it in shock.

"The impact should have destroyed the town," Twilight said, still in shock, "why is it still standing?"

"Does it matter?" Rainbow Dash said, "Our home is survived the impact. That is something we should be happy about."

After a few minutes Twilight signed and nodded, "You are right. Okay before we return to Ponyville, I will need to cast a spell to see if the area is safe."

"Why?" Pinkie Pie asked.

"Because in past documents it has been noted that meteorites and objects from the sky sometimes radiate strange energy that can cause harm to living creatures around them." Twilight replied, "While there have only been a few occasions where such energy has been present it would be best to be safe rather then sorry."

"So deary how will this work?" Rarity asked.

"A long time ago Star Swirl the bearded witnessed such an event," Twilight answered, "He created a spell to detect such energies for this sort of an occasion. When this plan was in effect I discovered this spell in the Canterlot library. I will go down to the village and cast the spell, then I will return and report the results."

After gathering a few supplies Twilight left the cave and descended the mountain towards the town. Her five friends waved to her as she left.

Three hours after Impact
The following is a verbal account given to us by Princess Twilight Sparkle

When I was at the perimeter of the city I cast the detection spell. No energy was detected so I entered into town and continued to cast the spell. Minutes later no energy was detected, however something else seemed to be detected by the spell. Some strange "hum."

I continued walking into town towards the object. Again non of the malicious energy mentioned in Star Swirl's book was detected but "hum" seemed to be growing more frequent.

It was when I reached the center of town that I saw the object. Seeing it I realized what it really was. There was no way this object was a rock from space. The object was made entirely of metal blacked by the heat from the atmosphere as it fell.

This alien object reminded me of a phobia I had once had as a kid. A phobia that had caused me terrible nightmares that only the calming hoof of my mother and father could hug away. A phobia I had shoved away long ago. A phobia that up to this point I had regarded as ridiculous. Until now.

Xenophobia.

Then the detection spell wore off and the "hum" disappeared.

Twilight's Diary - Entry #1

Dear Diary,

I am writing this while patiently waiting for Rarity to meet me here in the restaurant.

While the citizens of Ponyville start to repair their home, I have set up an organization to observe the object that caused the impact as well as address any issues the object may cause. This organization is called, the O.E.A. or the Office of Extraterrestrial Affairs. With the aid of Unicorn magicians and Earth pony technicians we have been able to make a magician that can detect the "hum." While it was a "hum" when I used the spell this signal appears to be something else altogether. It has a strange pattern to it.

Beep Beep Beep. Boop Boop Boop. Beep. Beep. Beep.

This signal seems to repeat itself over and over again. At this point we have yet to decipher what the signal means. However it seems there are a few ponies that can "feel" the "hum" some with various reactions. For example Fluttershy seems to develop headaches from the signal, causing her to stay in her cottage and spend less time in Ponyville. We all have decided to refer to the object as "The Thorn of the Earth." This is because of the fact that the object is largely submerged in the earth.

While this object does seem to be a treat at this point I have set events in motion with the O.E.A. to insure that we will be prepared in case the need arises. All attempts to gain access to the Thorn's interior have proven unsuccessful. We are hoping that by excavating the area around the Thorn we might be able to find a means of entry.

However I am wondering if maybe the only reason I wish to open this object is to satisfy the fears of my past. When I was a filly I would look up at the starry sky and wonder if there was something else out there. This curiosity turned into fear as I began to feel as if those stars were looking down on me. Dissecting me molecule by molecule. There were nights I woke up screaming in my bed and the ruckus would wake everypony in the house. If it wasn't for the love both my parents and my brother showed me I very well could have gone mad.

As I grew older I repressed my xenophobia (after all the fear of something unseen isn't very logical) but now that this "Thorn" has crashed here from another world I have no choice to face this fear.

At this point only debris the broke off of the Thorn as if tore its way into the ground and pieces of wood left behind by crushed buildings have been found. The mayor has alerted me that the large evacuation we performed has cost the town treasury heavily. I suppose I should try to talk to Applejack and Pinkie Pie about setting up some fundraising events. However in the future any activities pertaining to O.E.A. shall be funded by other means. This way Ponyville will not be burdened.

When more information makes itself known I will document it here.

Pictures found pertaining to the Thorn of the Earth
Here are a few photographs showing some of the debris that broke off the "Thorn of the Earth". It appears to be a dark gray metal with strange vacuoles on the inside like frozen bubbles. Whither this is something having to do with how the metal is created or the heat produced by the atmosphere has yet to be confirmed.

Here is another picture which shows a piece of Debris that looks like a claw. We have reason to believe that this may be an antenna.

Rainbow Dash's Diary Entry #1
Dear Diary,

I have just been forcefully awoken from my afternoon nap by the sound of flapping wings. Apparently Twilight's new organization has enlisted some Pegasi to patrol the skies around that object that crashed here. It wouldn't have bothered me so much if they weren't so loud.

Hmmm... perhaps I should try to join. After all it would look pretty good to the Wonderbolts if I did some volunteer work and considering that it revolves around this thing would be pretty important. They would have to recruit me once this is over!

However spending hours flying the same space just to make sure that nothing happens would be just plain boring.

Well, its something to think about.

I should go and visit Fluttershy. Ever since that thing crashed into our town Fluttershy has been staying in her cottage with her animals. It must be lonely there.

Perhaps I should go visit her today. Yes, that would be a great idea. I should also bring some cookies from Sugarcube Corner, that might cheer her up.

Well, that's it for now. This is the Awesomest flyer in all of Equestria, Rainbow Dash signing off.

Four days after impact

Pinkie Pie's Diary Entry #2

Dear Diary,

I have had another strange dream. It is almost like my previous one except it seems a bit more disturbing.

I am no longer running through the forest. Instead I am flying above the forest, which is weird considering the fact that I am not a Pegasus and I have only flown on a few occasions.

Now the trees look like large black mushrooms enveloped by green fog. I can see strange creatures moving under the mushroom canopies, creatures that I can't even recognize. Then something catches my eye. A tower appears above the canopy and the feeling of deja vu hits me as I recognize the tower from somewhere. It isn't until I get closer that I realize to my surprise that it is in fact the Ponyville clock tower, with strange black and green vines clutching it.

I fly around the tower a few times before landing below the canopy. I land in front of another building wrapped in vines and to my horror I recognize it too. It is Sugarcube Corner only now it is covered in vines. Then a large red creature with a sideways mouth lunges at me from behind one of the large mushrooms. This is when I wake up.

It is a scary dream despite the lack of icky yucky stuff.

Maybe it is something I ate last night. Perhaps I should eat less cupcake before going to bed. However ever since I had that dream my knees have been feeling pinchy.

Twilight came to talk to me today. She says she needs to set up some fundraising events to help make up for the money that was spent to evacuate the whole town.

Note: It has been observed that when Pinkie's back feels itchy it means she will have a lucky day, but if her knee is pinchy then something scary will happen.

Recently Twilight and her organization started excavating the area around the Thorn and the princess has hired by sister Maud Pie to aid with it. It has been great seeing my sister again. It is a shame she is too busy right now. Perhaps I should try to throw a party for her later.

Letter from Rarity to Applejack

Dear Applejack

I just wanted to thank you for taking care of Sweetie Bell for me. Things have been busy around the boutique trying to repair it. While the impact didn't damage the boutique too much there are still a few structural supports that will need to be replaced before I can open up for business again.

Thank you for keeping an eye on Sweetie Bell, while Twilight says this "Thorn" isn't a threat I don't feel safe having her this close to it. Also I have been hearing rumors that there are strange lights floating around that object.

Also have you seen Pinkie recently? She seems to have been a little out of it.

I hope you are doing well and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Rarity

Pictures found pertaining to lights seen around the Thorn of the Earth
Here we have two photographs. One in which five strange blue lights are seen floating around the Thorn of the Earth. The other photo shows two of these lights circling the mayors office. This latter image is clearer and shows what appears to be long thin appendages drifting from behind the glowing orb.

One month after impact
This is a report written by the pony Observant Eye, researcher for the O.E.A.

A strange green gas has been reported leaking from the "Thorn." While the gas itself isn't toxic it seems to have a similar effect to helium however instead of producing a high pitched voice the tone of someone breathing it in will have a deeper sounding voice. This would indicate that the gas is heavier then oxygen meaning that in order to expel it completely from the longs the pony must sit in an inverted position so that will fall from their lungs.

Concrete walls have been constructed and will be placed around to contain the gas if no other means of doing so can be found. I will also be organizing a team of pegasi to control the weather around the Thorn to make sure the gas doesn't spread.

Surprisingly Rainbow Dash has volunteered to join this group. Not sure it would be a wise idea but we can use all the help we can get right now. I am just worried that she will find the job boring and not work as passionately as we need her too. Also those hazard suits have been noted to be constricting on the wings of a Pegasus.

Twilight Sparkle has also noted that the "hum" that was being generated by the Thorn has increased in frequency.

Picture pertaining to the Gas
This photograph shows what appears to be cracks the side of the Thorn with a mysterious green gas leaking out.

Urgent Report
This report was documented by Twilight Sparkle

What appears to be two portals have appeared on the Thorn. Once the portals appeared the O.E.A. set up a one block perimeter around the Thorn. An hour after those portals appeared creatures started pouring out of them.

Red worms the width of one's foreleg. These large worms despite being a nuisance don't appear to be an issue. We captured a few of these worms, which I will be analyzing in the future.

The main problem were the large gorilla like creatures that come out. Their fur is blue, they have a total of four arms and four large eyes. As the creatures charged forth we had to use everything we had to keep the back. While we fended them off the gas continued to leak.

After the creatures were contained we enclosed the area with the concrete walls we had on standby. We erected the walls around the Thorn in hopes of containing both the creatures as well as the gas. There are air-tight doors built into some of the walls just in case we need to reenter the quarantine zone.

More of those glowing drones were seen hovering around the Thorn during this. We believe that this event may have been intentional.

Celestia has sent some of her Portal Masters to investigate the portals in hopes of sealing them. It also turns out that a few of the citizens of Ponyville are Portal Masters, however to insure security their names will not be disclosed in this file.

Note: Portal Masters are ponies that have been given powers by Celestia, that allow them to create portals so they can travel from point A to point B. Individuals granted with this power don't necessarily have to be unicorns to use their abilities. When they are not performing any tasks for Celestia they are in reserve and live their lives like normal ponies.

All ponies in that lived in the zone that has been quarantined or have come in contact with the gas, have been told not to leave Ponyville. This is to insure the safety of Equestria.

More information will be provided once it makes itself known.

Picture pertaining to the Containment Wall
This photograph shows the wall that surrounds the Quarantine Zone. The walls are made of concrete with every three walls being followed by a wall with a concrete door built in. Each door frame is surrounded by yellow and black caution type.

There are a few machines attached to the walls to monitor the integrity of the walls to detect any possible leaks.

Above the walls a large storm cloud can be seen with a large number of pegasi wearing hazard suits flying around it.

One month and One day after impact (One day after Quarantine)
Letter from Applejack to Rarity
Dear Rarity,

First I thought you might like to know that Sweetie Bell is doing just fine. She and Applebloom have been having a hey of a time.

I am glad to hear that your boutique wasn't within the Quarantine zone. I heard a lot of our friends are having a hard time as they have to make new homes for themselves due to their previous homes being sealed behind the Quarantine zone. It must be really rough on those who already had to rebuild their homes and now they have to do it again.

Well, I hope to hear from ya soon.

Sincerely,

Applejack

Report on Worms
This report was documented by Twilight Sparkle

Aside from being larger then our normal species of earth worm there doesn't appear to be much of a difference besides the fact that they are red.

There anatomy is the same aside from being larger.

We were able to recover a few live worms from the quarantine zone. However despite our multiple attempts to keep them moist the worms shriveled up and died shortly after extraction.

Rainbow Dash's Diary Entry #2
Dear Diary,

I am SOOOOO glad my shift is over for the day. It is just SOOOOO boring.

We just fly around above the Thorn and push the wind so that it contains the air within the confines of the quarantine zone. And the shifts are so long it seems to take forever before the next shift arrives.

The good thing is that it pays pretty well considering how boring the work is.

I should probably talk to Twilight. Perhaps she has some ideas on how I can keep myself entertained while I am working.

I was able to talk to Fluttershy the other day. She rarely comes to the village any more but it is good to see that she isn't housed up in her cottage all the time. She still tends to her garden and visits the homes of the animal's that are in need of her help.

When I dropped by she and her "angel bunny" were having tea with a few other animals. That rabbit is really annoying but I can tell that he cares for her.

We talked for a little bit before I went to interview for the boring job I have now.

Well, now I am going to sleep for a bit and try to do something fun before my next shift.

For now this is the Awesomest flyer in all of Equestria, Rainbow Dash signing off.

Three days after Quarantine
Pinkie Pie's Diary Entry #3
Dear Diary,

I had another terrible dream last night. I was suspended in a glass case, and I could move at all. Looking down I could see strange reptilian creatures looking up at me, as if I were the remains of some prehistoric animal.

While that is the shortest dream I have had it has been the scariest out of them all.

Recently I haven't been eating as much candy as I normally do. Also I have been having difficulty breathing. I really don't feel good.

I should go check with the doctor.
