Honestly, some students wanted their summer back. Twilight Sparkle was not one of those students, devoting her time to reading and studying was better than that. Brown, red, and yellow leaves were falling from the trees only to land on the patches of grass and ground that were laid across the school grounds as far as the eye could see. “I’m going to ace the chemistry test tomorrow for sure!” Twilight’s eyes wandered back and forth between her chemistry textbook and her notes. Her concentration focused solely on the last page of the textbook to study, the buzzing sound of her phone vibrating would be the one to break it. She grabbed the phone and held it to her ear, “Hello?” “Hey Twilight, whatcha doing right now?” Pinkie hollered into the phone, Twilight holding her ears as the booming voice echoed in her ears. “Waa! Studying for tomorrow’s test, you almost shattered my eardrums.” Twilight wiggled the outside of her ear. “Sorry about that though. Want to come over and have a sleepover?” Pinkie spoke into her phone before flopping down belly-first onto her bed. “Still studying, how about tomorrow?” Twilight’s eyes still scanning her notes and textbook. “Of course! Made some special punch when you do come over. Guess the ingredient,” Pinkie kicked her boots high in the air, jumping up and down on her bed. “Grape juice, sugar, and lemons?” She rolled her eyes playfully, giving Pinkie the benefit of the doubt. “You must be some kind of psychic, Twilight! Talk to you tomorrow to test out your ESP sense,” Pinkie hung the phone up as Twilight did the same. The hardworking student jotted down more notes while she skimmed through chapter eleven of the textbook. “Wonder what Sunset Shimmer is up to.”
Meanwhile in the practice room of Canterlot High School, Sunset Shimmer and her band members were testing out their instruments for the last time and putting them in their cases. To Sunset’s realization, she had been at the school for about three hours straight and it was about 10:00 at night. “You did a great job tonight, girls,” Sunset Shimmer said, removing her guitar strap from her shoulder and setting the instrument in the case, locking it. “Remember that our next band practice is at my place next Saturday, alright?” “You got it, Sunset,” Her bandmates said, heading towards the exit. “See you next week!” Sunset watched her friends exit the room and open the front doors of the school, heading towards their homes. After locking up her guitar case, Sunset noticed her large backpack which was filled with her science textbook. And, that’s when Sunset starting to get nervous. There was a chemistry test tomorrow and she was so caught up with band practice that she forgot to study. She rushed out of the room to the front doors of the school, the street lights shining down on the statue in the center of the school. “A chemistry test? Hmm… I know only one person who would be ripping out her hair right now.” Sunset pulled out her phone, she scrolled down the list of contacts. Her finger pressed the ‘Call’ button next to Twilight’s name and slid her phone on the right side of her ear, tapping her foot patiently on the sidewalk. Another interruption to annoy her, Twilight daintily moved her finger across the front screen of the phone as she changed the volume and setting on the phone to speak.   “Sunset, what do you need?” Twilight asked, annoyed as she put the phone to her ear. She tapped her fingers and hoped that this was important. “I completely forgot to study for the chemistry test until one of my bandmates reminded me, would you mind helping me study? Trust me, preparing for the upcoming band competition can wait.” “I could use some company, so okay,” Twilight tapped her pencil against her notebook, twirled a strand of hair around her finger. “Sounds good, because I need all the help I can get. See you there, bye!” Sunset ended the call and the large backpack over her shoulder along with the both straps on her backpack, kept weighing her down towards the path to the bus stop.
Half an hour passed and Twilight heard a knock upon her front door. She got off of her chair and walked towards the door, before twisting the knob and opening the door slowly. And, right in front of her was Sunset Shimmer, her backpack upon her back with a hopeful smile. “Hi, Sunset,” she said, stepping aside so her friend could enter. “Come on in!” Sunset nodded and entered, setting her backpack on the floor before sitting on the side of Twilight’s bed and sighed. “I can’t believe I forgot to study,” she said, putting her hand on her face, sighing again before removing her hands and smiling. “But, thanks for letting me come over here at this time, Twilight.” “It was no problem at all. A little company wouldn’t hurt anybody… so which part of the textbook do you need help with?” Twilight sat on the edge of her bed, both legs crossed over each other. “Only chapters ten and eleven, why?” Sunset zipped her backpack open, taking out her chemistry textbook. “Because those chapters need to be completed and annotated,” Writing along the margin of the textbook, she jotted material down on her built-in chalkboard of both chapters as Sunset laid her head down on her lap. “Got all that, Sunset?” Twilight turned around, her friend dozing off on her lap. A small pool of drool spilled out from the open roof of her mouth, her arms dangling from the right side of the bed. “Yeah, sort of. Twilight, can I tell you something that I told no one before?” “Sure, it will be our little secret. I won’t judge you,” Twilight said, smiling and waiting for Sunset to tell her little secret.  “The reason I used people for my own popularity to lower the self esteem of others, was because of… my parents always putting me down. Physical and mental torment for years almost caused me to abandon my first year in Canterlot High. Sounds foolish, doesn’t it?” “Actually, I’ve never seen or encountered someone who went through a difficult time, where their own parents gave them a hard time like this.” Twilight wrapped her arm around Sunset’s shoulder, rubbing her cheeks against Sunset’s. “You can always talk to me or ask me for help. Let’s move on from the chapters, and get straight to the big finish.” Twilight slipped her glasses across the bridge of her nose with three buttons unbuttoned, leaned closer to Sunset. Clumsily falling on top of the dazed Sunset, her eyes stared deeply into Sunset’s eyes until they shot wide open from the apparent nap. Sunset hovered above Twilight, her fingers trailed along the skirt’s path that led to the front of her knee. She felt the long and broad appendage on her sweaty palm while Twilight slid from between her legs with her sneak attack eminent as she pinned her shoulders down on the bed, giggling at her quick victory. “Game set and match,” Twilight said, with a confident grin. “That was one intense moment. I didn’t expect that this would happen in a studying session, honestly I was hesitant at first. I’m happy that you helped me, thank you,” Sunset picked up her backpack and walked towards the door. She checked to make sure that her chemistry textbook along with her guitar were accounted for, Twilight caught up to her before she turned the doorknob. “It was no trouble at all. I did enjoy our little ‘intense’ moment, next time we could have a sleepover at Pinkie’s,” Twilight looked down at the plethora of text messages that Pinkie sent her. “I’d like that-” The rumbling sound of thunder and lightning flashing around in sporadic patterns interrupted Sunset’s train of thought, she watched the grey clouds bunched against one another. “Walk me to the bus stop?” Droplets of rain landed roughly against the puddles of mud, forming around one corner around the sidewalk. They cut the corner and walked past the obstacle as the bus stop caught Sunset’s eye she noticed Twilight’s umbrella above them, protecting them from the rain. “Thank you for helping me study, and for walking me here.” Sunset smiled gingerly at her. “Anytime, see you tomorrow. Good luck,” Twilight pecked Sunset with a kiss on the lips, before waving goodbye and walking back home. “Bye,” She felt the burning sensation in her flushed cheeks as the bus arrived.
