Although she wasn’t really reading it, she was only trying to keep her mind busy and awake. Most ponies may fall asleep from reading too much, but Twilight was a unique kind of mare. Reading was something that made her feel peaceful, and happy, but it could also make her feel energetic. Years of intense study under Celestia’s wing had trained her to stay awake even under the most intense situations. Looking at the book Twilight found herself trying to focus on the words, trying to picture the story in her mind. Unfortunately her paranoia was killing her concentration on the book. Ever since meeting Princess Luna she’s had strange dreams, some of them were very…private. She never worried about them though, because she thought no pony would ever find out. A week ago however both Scootaloo and Sweetie Bell had come to her seeking information about Princess Luna. Apparently Luna was able to enter other ponies dreams and even influence them. Twilight hadn’t known that before. Twilight was now afraid that Luna might step into one of Twilight’s dreams and see something very personal. She couldn’t risk it, so Twilight has been staying awake ever since. As she stayed awake even longer, she began to imagine the reasons behind her dreams. Twilight had never had such dreams before meeting Luna, so they couldn’t be natural. They had to caused by something, some outside force. It finally hit her, Twilight has been having such weird dreams because of Luna. Luna must be entering her dreams at night, and changing them into weird dreams. But why would Luna do this, was she simply a pervert? Or was this a mean prank gone way too far? Whatever it was Twilight knew she had to stop it. Sleep deprivation wasn’t anything new to her, she had stayed awake for just over two weeks once before. She just had to find a way to defeat her dreams, so that Luna couldn’t see them. Setting her fantasy novel down Twilight stood up and decided to return to her research. Tomorrow she had a busy day after all. *** The next day Twilight found herself in a meeting with the other princesses over in Canterlot. The four princesses sat around a small table inside a private room. There was some food, and tea laid out on the table for them. Luna was not shy about partaking of the food, even getting some crumbs stuck to her muzzle as she ate a sandwich. Twilight found herself thinking about one random idea after another. She felt nervous and scared around Luna. Eventually she began to wonder; if Luna could enter your dreams then what stops her from reading your mind? Nothing stops her. Maybe it was for the best that she was locked away on the moon. Twilight froze in horror at her own thoughts and took a mental step back. What happened to Luna was absolutely horrid and considering how easy it was to fix Luna…wait did that mean that Celestia was in the wrong? Twilight now found herself trying to figure out if Celestia was in the wrong for what she had done, and if she was. Did that mean she was a bad leader? If so somepony should step up and take her place, right? But who would it be? Luna could read minds…so she was too scary. Twilight had the intelligence for it, but she knew that it would be too much of a task for her to take on her own. Cadence was such a nice and kind ruler already. She was the princess of love, and she was nearly as smart as Twilight was. Maybe it should be Cadence. Celestia looked over to Twilight while was stuck inside her own head. Celestia asked. “Twilight, are you feeling okay?” Twilight looked up and said. “I nominate Cadence.” Celestia looked a little confused and asked her. “What are you nominating her for?” Twilight cocked her head to the side in confusion. Did Celestia not call them here to talk about who would take her place? Twilight opened her mouth but didn’t speak as she realized that she actually had no idea what she was doing here. She had simply followed one of Celestia’s orders without thinking about it. She then asked a little shyly. “Um…what are we doing here again?” Celestia gave her a concerned smile before saying. “We are here to spend some time together. As we are the only Alicorns, we need to keep close to one another. I thought some quality time spent together would be a nice thing for us.” Twilight could understand the notion of getting closer to her fellow princesses but right now she had more important business. Twilight then asked. “So we are not here for anything important?” Cadence then said in a very worried tone. “Don’t you think spending time with us as friends is important?” Twilight stood up, took her glass of tea and chugged it down. She then grabbed a sandwich with her magic and walked to the door saying. “I have more important studies right now. I can’t dilly dally with you all right now.” As Twilight left she heard Cadence ask in a shocked voice. “Did she just say…dilly dally?” Twilight had eaten the sandwich and was nearly out of the building before she felt the air next to her pop, and a bright blue light flash. Twilight looked to her side and found Luna standing next to her looking worried, with crumbs still covering her face. Twilight felt her time was about to be wasted by the night princess. Twilight groaned and asked. “What is it?” Luna wiped the crumbs off her muzzle with a foreleg before saying. “Twilight Sparkle, what is it that is bothering you.” Twilight looked up and said flatly. “You.” Twilight noticed both Celestia and Cadence watching from down the hall. The two of them had both of their muzzles covered with their hooves. Luna looked taken aback for a moment, and then she looked sad and said. “But Twilight…I thought we were friends. Did I do something to harm you? I’m sorry if I have.” Twilight scoffed at her and said. “Have you done something?” she then added sarcastically. “Oh no, you haven’t done anything at all. I can just assume that all the strange dreams I have about you are all my fault.” Luna looked confused as she asked. “What do you mean?” Twilight turned and faced her. She then said angrily. “I found out that you enter ponies dreams, and influence them. So I know that all those weird dreams I have about you, have to be your fault. You’re some kind of pervert, using my dreams for your own sick pleasure.” Twilight clenched her eyes shut and shouted. “AND I’LL HAVE NO MORE OF IT. STAY OUT OF MY DREAMS!” Luna sat down hard with a shocked expression on her face. Twilight smirked and said. “Ha, I thought it would be harder to keep you out my head. Guess all I needed to do was lecture you.” As Twilight turned to leave she heard a quiet and fearful voice say. “But I’ve never been in your dreams.” Then she heard a sniffle. Twilight turned and saw Luna had her eyes closed with tears running down them. The thought then occurred to her that Luna was either a very good liar, or that she had just messed up again, just like with Cadence. But that wasn’t a screw up, Cadence really was an evil changeling queen. Twilight looked down at her reflection on the marble floor, her eyes were red shot from the lack of sleep. She realized that maybe her lack of sleep had affected her, but she was used to doing this. Maybe she needed more sleep to function properly. Twilight closed her eyes and turned towards the door. She didn’t look back at Luna, but she said. “I don’t know if I can believe you. I…don’t know if I can believe myself right now.” After a moment she added. “I’m sorry I yelled at you.” Twilight then left the castle, with the intent on going home and getting some sleep. She would be able to figure out what to do in the morning. If she had another strange dream about Luna, would that be proof of Luna’s guilt, or her innocence. Twilight didn’t know she only knew she needed sleep. *** Twilight had gotten home, her friends were surprised at her early return. She ignored them though, and went straight home. There she laid down on her bed, closed her blinds and then tried to sleep. Somehow though she laid there only thinking of how crushed Luna looked after Twilight had accosted her. The tears, the pain, and the broken heart. Twilight thought about the dreams, most of them involved Luna and her in some kind of sensual situation. Twilight thought at first it was just an anomaly, then she began to believe that the idea’s could not possibly belong to her. But now she wondered if maybe Luna had no hoof in this, maybe Twilight’s heart was trying to tell her something and she had just been ignoring it all this time. The word love came to mind a few times, that was something that Twilight had never really considered for herself before. Twilight’s place had always been the scientist, then it was the friend, recently it’s been that of the hero. Now she wondered if her place could somehow be that of the lover. Well maybe not anymore anyways. After what she had said, and done to Luna, there was no hope that Twilight could be romantic with her. But she could at least repair her friendship. Twilight stood up and thought about how to best go about this. She needed to get back to the castle and fast. She had only one spell that could do the trick, but it would put her horn out of commission for a few days. After a moment she simply knew that it was worth it. Closing her eyes she began to concentrate on the long range teleportation spell. She had devised it herself in secret, but only used it successfully once before. The last time had used it she was filled with all the alicorn magic, and it was an accident. Now she focused hard and could feel her horn beginning to throb in pain. She fought through the pain and focused even more. After a few moments she felt the world slip away for a second. Opening her eyes she saw the Royal Canterlot gardens, only they were upside down for some reason. Gravity decided to turn back on and Twilight fell head first into the bushes below her. Apparently she had teleported in upside down. Her head hurt from the magic spell, and a few sparks flew off her horn. Twilight stood up and left the gardens, she had to find Luna now. Franticly she searched throughout the castle, not finding a single trace of any of the princesses. None of the guards seemed to know where they were either. Fear of something bad having happened to them began playing through her. But eventually Twilight found herself lost, alone, and scared. It was almost like her tired brain just didn’t recognize the castles layout, and she walked around in circles until finally she found an empty guest room to go into. Scared and confused she crawled underneath the bed, so that no pony could find her, and then she cried. Twilight wasn’t sure how long she was there crying, but she couldn’t do anything else. She finally accepted the truth, that she had feelings for Luna. She also accepted the fact that her lack of sleep was only causing her to become increasingly erratic, and she accepted the fact that she had just ruined her friendship and any chance she had with Luna. Eventually Twilight heard the door open, and she became decidedly very quiet. Somepony then crawled onto the bed above her, they were heavy and making tiny pained noises. It sounded like they were trying not to cry. Twilight felt awkward hiding underneath a crying pony, so she decided she would leave quickly and quietly. Using her horn Twilight used the teleport spell, and instead created some pink sparks and a lot of pain in her horn. She gave a yelp at the pain, and the noises above her stopped. Twilight laid there quiet and still for a long few moment’s trying to be invisible, and feeling stupid for forgetting her horn was out of commission. She then felt the pony above lean off the bed, and then she heard a familiar voice ask. “Is that you Twilight?” Twilight looked over and saw Luna staring down at her with tear streaked and red eyes. Luna had been crying very hard from what she could tell. Twilight gave a small whimper and said. “I’m sorry.” Luna got out of the bed and began to leave. Twilight knew she couldn’t just let Luna leave like this, so she chased after her. Or at least tried to. Twilight had gotten her wings stuck underneath the bed and couldn’t move. Luna got further away and Twilight yelled in frustration. “I LOVE YOU.” Luna stopped walking, and for a long few moments she simply stood still and silent. She finally turned around and walked over to the bed. She looked underneath it. Luna now noticed just how stuck Twilight had gotten and asked. “How did you get under there?” Twilight whimpered a little before saying. “I…I was trying to hide.” Luna looked sad and asked. “From me?” Twilight answered. “From myself.” Luna gave Twilight an understanding smile. After that Luna helped Twilight out from underneath the bed, using her magic to lift up the bed a little. After Twilight got out she noticed that both Celestia and Cadence had entered the room in the room, and were sitting over at the table. They were both trying their best to not look at any pony in particular. Twilight could feel something wrong with her wings, they didn’t move properly. At this point she had damaged her horn, her wings, and her friendship with Luna. What else could She break today, maybe the record for dumbest pony ever. Luna noticed the self loathing look on Twilight’s face and wrapped her up into a tight embrace. Luna then said. “You’re a silly pony Twilight, but you’re my silly friend…right?” Twilight looked up at her and said. “I…I would love to be your friend still.” Luna gave Twilight a nuzzle and asked her. “What has been going on, why did you think I was invading you’re dreams?” Twilight gave a shudder and another whimper before saying. “I…I’ve never thought about ponies in…sex-um sensual ways before. So I…got scared that you might find out about my dreams, and be mad at me. Then I thought that maybe you might have been the one putting them inside my head. It was easier to believe that, than it was to face the truth.” Luna smiled and asked. “And what is the truth.” Twilight closed her eyes and admitted. “I…I think I’m in love with you.” Luna tightened her embrace a little, and Twilight buried her tired face into Luna’s neck. She could hear the other Princesses remarks on the situation. Celestia whispered. “I was waiting for Twilight to get interested in somepony.” Cadence gave a little laugh and said. “I thought she was going to fall for you, not Luna.” Celestia then commented. “And here I thought the princess of love would know these kinds of things.” Cadence then said. “Like I go around sneaking peeks into everyponies heart.” Celesta asked. “Don’t you?” Cadence replied. “I do not…not always anyways.” Luna and Twilight simply held each other in a loving embrace as the other two continued on this way for a little bit. Twilight finally felt calm inside, like she could finally sleep for once. She gave out a mighty yawn and nearly fell backwards as exhaustion hit her hard. Luna then sighed and helped her into the bed. As Twilight laid there with her eyes closed she heard Luna ask. “May I enter your dreams now that I know?” Twilight gave a yawn and said. “If you promise not to tell anypony how weird they are.” Luna then said. “I promise it will be the best dream, the excitement will be doubled.” Twilight then felt pressure on the bed behind her as Luna crawled up next to her and held her with a leg, and an outstretched wing. Twilight felt like she was at home, and wrapped up in a nice warm and feathery blanket. As Twilight’s mind fell into dreamland she heard Luna whisper. “I have always loved you too. After all, you’re the hero who saved me from my prison.” Twilight then wondered off to sleep, where she met up with Luna. And together the two of them made this dream the most sensual and romantic of them all. It was noticeably different when Luna was really there; it seemed that Luna’s presence turned this into a lucid dream. That had never happened in Twilight’s dreams before, but it was the most wonderful thing, in fact Twilight would even dare to call this “the best night ever”.
