> My Little Pony: Friendship is Overpowered (Season 1) > by ocalhoun > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- > S01E01 Friendship is Magic (Part 1) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Mare in the moon?" Spike looked over at Twilight, scratching his chin. "But that's just an old ponies' tale." "Mare, mare... aha! The Mare in the Moon, myth from olden pony times. A powerful pony who wanted to rule Equestria, defeated by the Elements of Harmony and imprisoned in the moon. Legend has it that on the longest day of the thousandth year, the stars will aid in her escape, and she will bring about nighttime eternal!" Twilight gasped. "Spike! Do you know what this means?" "No... whao!" He didn't have enough time to dodge the book falling on him. Twilight grinned. She knew just what to do. "Take a note, please. To the Princess." A few scribblings, some spelling difficulties, and in interminable wait later, Spike was reading from Princess Celestia's reply. "My dearest, most faithful student Twilight. You know that I value your diligence and that I trust you completely." Twilight grinned. "See, I told you she would want to take immediate action." "But you simply must stop reading those dusty old books!" Twilight's eyes shot open wide. "That is why I can trust you with the knowledge that Nightmare Moon will return this year in Ponyville. You must go there and prevent her return. Find the Elements of Harmony: they will aid you in your quest." Twilight shot into action. "You heard her! We've got to get started right away!" "Uh, actually, I read her." Spike gave Twilight a sidelong glance. "Right away!" Spike snapped out a salute. "Right! On it!" * * * As soon as the chariot touched down, Twilight hopped out. "Thank you, sirs." The two pegasus guards whinnied a polite reply. "So, how are we gonna defeat Nightmare Moon?" Spike looked around the small town. "It looks pretty normal right now." "Easy." Twilight smiled. "The Princess said we'd need the Elements of Harmony, so I'll start with a simple scrying spell to find those." She looked around the street. "First we'll need some water... aha!" Running over to a nearby fountain, she already began calling up her immeasurable magic talent. "Now I just need to visualize the right runes... aaand done. Now we'll know where those precious artifacts are." Her horn glowed and the reflection on the water's surface changed. Spike's and Twilight's faces vanished. Images of six ponies replaced them. One of them was Twilight herself, at that very moment. She couldn't resist a quick glance upward where the pool's point of view seemed to originate. There was nothing up there, of course. She turned back to the fountain. "That's odd, Spike. I was expecting stones or gems or something... instead, the elements seem to have embodied themselves in six ponies, and I'm one of them!" Spike stared into the pool. "How do we use six ponies to defeat Nightmare Moon?" "I don't know..." Twilight stood for a moment, tapping her chin. "But I'm sure we'll figure it out when the time comes. For now, we'd better gather them all together." Her horn glowed again, more brightly this time. Five flashes blinked into the street in quick succession, leaving five ponies blinking and looking around themselves in disbelief. "Don't worry," Twilight said to them, "I know you're probably confused, but I've brought you all here for a very important reason." > S01E02 Friendship is Magic (Part 2) > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Seize her! Only she knows where the Princess is!" Mayor Mare's command was in vain. The three royal guards in attendance were easily struck down by lightning bolts shooting out of Nightmare's mane. "Now the night will last... Forever!" With one last maniacal laugh, she turned into a cloud of dark mist and shot out through the door. "Come back here!" Rainbow Dash pursued for a short distance, but the cloud quickly raced away. "Nighttime? Forever?" Below her, Twilight Sparkle rushed out through the door. She stopped just outside, staring in the direction Nightmare had gone. "Okay, girls. It's time!" Rainbow nodded, flying down next to her along with the other four Elements of Harmony. "Ready!" Twilight grinned. "Okay, brace yourselves! This is going to be a pretty long jump!" In one huge flash, they all disappeared. * * * The answering flash deposited them all in the throne room of the Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters. The ruined walls loomed above them, and Nightmare Moon stood directly ahead. Nightmare's eyebrow rose. "You're kidding. You're kidding, right?" As soon as the six of them together laid eyes on the stone elements behind Nightmare Moon, gems popped out of each stone. Every gem floated over to a pony and affixed itself as a necklace. "No!" Nightmare screamed. "Not again!" Beams of rainbow light burst out of the necklaces, swirling around Nightmare and blasting the evil from her. A moment later, all that remained was a shocked and very weakened Princess Luna. On the horizon, the sun rose again, violating Nightmare's dark promises. A bright flash washed through the room, and Princess Celestia stood before them. While the other five ponies bowed, Twilight ran up to her. "Princess! You're back!" "And I have you to thank for it." Celestia smiled. "I knew you could do it." She looked over to her long-lost sister. "And I want to thank you for bringing my sister back to me as well." > S01E03 The Ticket Master > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight pulled in the letter out of Spike's breath. "It's a letter from Princess Celestia!" She spent a few moments reading through it carefully, then her face brightened. "I've been invited to the Grand Galloping Gala, plus one guest!" Spike burped again. "Look, two tickets!" "Wow, great! I've never been to the gala. Have you, Spike?" "No, and I plan to keep it that way. I don't want any of that girly frilly frou-frou nonsense." Twilight leaned toward him. "Aw, come on Spike. A dance would be nice." "Nice? It's a heap good more than just nice. I'd love to go. Land sakes, if I had an apple stand set up, ponies would be chowin' our tasty vittles till the cows came home. Do you have any idea how much business I could drum up for Sweet Apple Acres? Why, with all that money, we could do a heap of fixin' up 'round here. We could replace that saggy old roof, and Big McIntosh could replace that saggy old plow, and Granny Smith could replace that saggy old hip." Applejack blinked a couple times, seeming to come out of her trance. "Why, I'd give my left hind leg to go to that gala." "Well, in that case, would you like to go?" "Woah!" Rainbow's sudden crash into her prevented any reply from Applejack. "Are we talking about The Grand Galloping Gala?" Applejack scowled at her. "Rainbow Dash, you told me you were too busy to help me harvest apples. What were you busy doing, spyin'?" "No, I was busy napping, and I just happened to hear that you have an extra ticket?" Twilight winced. "Yeah, but..." "YES! This is so awesome. The Wonderbolts perform at The Grand Galloping Gala every year. I can see it now. Everyone would be watching the sky. Their eyes riveted on The Wonderbolts, but then in would fly Rainbow Dash! I would draw their attention with my Super Speed Strut. Then, I would mesmerize 'em with my Fantastic Filly Flash. And for my grand finale, The Buccaneer Blaze! The ponies would go wild! The Wonderbolts would insist that my signature moves be incorporated into their routine, and then welcome me as their newest member. Don't you see, Twilight? This could be my one chance to show 'em my stuff. You gotta take me!" Applejack pulled her back by the tail. "Hold on just one pony pickin' minute here. I asked for that ticket first." "So?" Rainbow pulled her tail back. "That doesn't mean you own it." "Girls, girls." Twilight held her hooves up. "Relax. Watch, I've got the perfect spell for this." With a bright magical glow from Twilight's horn, one of the tickets flashed bright purple. Suddenly, there were three. "A duplication spell?" Rainbow grabbed one of the floating tickets. "Nice!" Applejack's eyes went distant for a moment, and she tapped her chin. "Hey, ya think the rest of our friends might like to go too?" Twilight smiled. "Let's ask them! There are plenty of tickets to go around." * * * "Would I like to go to the most amazing super-exclusive party EVER? Of course! Sign me up!" Pinkie bounced crazily around, a challenge to keep track of. With another flash, another ticket duplicated. * * * Rarity gasped. "The Gala? I've always dreamed of going. Of course I will!" A freshly duplicated ticket floated over to her. * * * "Oh, hi Fluttershy." Twilight smiled. "We were just looking for you. Would you like an invitation to the Grand Galloping Gala?" "Um... well, no." Fluttershy scuffed a hoof against the ground for a moment, until her bunny tapped her on the leg. "But I would love to go to the gardens around the dance! I hear they're lovely, especially on that night." "Well, we'd love to have you with us!" Twilight sent another ticket floating over to another friend. "Okay, Spike, that's all of them. I guess everypony wants to go." "Heh, good thing you learned that duplication spell, or this would have been rough!" Twilight wiped her brow. "You're telling me. Come on, I'm starving. Let's head over to the cafe." > S01E04 Applebuck Season > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Don't you use your fancy mathematics to muddy the issue!" Applejack stomped a hoof down. "I said I could handle this harvest and I'm gonna prove it to you. I'm gonna get every last apple out of those trees this applebuck season all by myself." It took three days and every ounce of Applejack's legendary earth pony stamina, but she made good on her promise. She even managed to help out her friends with bunny censuses, stunt setups, and muffin baking in the meantime. > S01E05 Griffon the Brush Off > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Gilda smirked over toward Rainbow. "So, Dash, got any new moves in your tricktionary, or are you one hundred percent old school?" "New moves?" Rainbow shot up. "Heh, sit back G, this is gonna take a while." "Hey Pinkie, c'mere." Gilda wasn't watching Dash's moves. Pinkie hovered closer on her candycopter. "Yeah?" "Don't you know how to take get lost for an answer? Dash doesn't need to hang with a dweeb like you now that I'm around. You're dorkin' up the skies, Stinkie Pie, so make like a bee and buzz off!" With that, she grabbed on to the rotor, setting the candycopter into a spin and letting it go. It crashed down with Pinkie screaming the whole way. A rainbow blur shot past Gilda. Rainbow Dash swooped in, catching Pinkie just before she crashed into the ground. She set her friend down safely just as the candycopter crashed nearby. True to form, Dash didn't hesitate. She rocketed back up to the cloud where Gilda watched. "What was that? You almost killed her!" Gilda looked down where Rainbow was pointing, where Pinkie stood on the ground below. "Dash, come on. I didn't mean it like that. I was just tired of dealing with her lameness, okay?" "Well, maybe I'm tired of dealing with your lameness! You should know I pay attention to everything when I'm flying. How else could I have ever passed flight school?" Gilda's face scrunched up. "But you didn't pass–" "I passed until I quit!" Rainbow stomped on the cloud; part of it disintegrated. "You know what, Gilda, you can just go back home right now! I don't think I need you around here anymore." Gilda raised a claw up, but let it slowly drop down. Her face flashed through a dozen emotions before settling on a simmering glare. "Fine!" She took off, flying away into the distance. "Wow, Rainbow Dash, I didn't want to break up your friendship with Gilda," Pinkie said as Rainbow came back down next to her. "You didn't." Rainbow glared in the direction her old friend had flown. "Gilda broke up the friendship when she attacked you." She smiled again. "Now come on, we've still got a lot of pranking to do, right?" > S01E06 Boast Busters > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Don't believe the Great and Powerful Trixie?" The showmare laughed theatrically. "Well then, I hereby challenge you, Ponyvillians. Anything you can do, I can do better. Any takers? Anyone? Hmm? Or is Trixie destined to be the greatest equine who has ever lived?" With a grin, Twilight Sparkle teleported onto the stage. Trixie blinked her eyes, shaking off the teleport's flash. "Oh please. Many unicorns can teleport! That is but a paltry task to the Great and Powerful Trixie!" "Oh no, that wasn't my challenge." Twilight grinned even wider. "This is." Her horn glowed, and soon, so did Trixie. Thick curls of magic wrapped around her. Long, wispy wings sprouted from her back. "What? What are you doing to Trixie? Stop this at once! You cannot possibly have the magical power to–" Trixie stopped when one of her legs shrank. "What?" In a moment, the rest of her shrank too, leaving only her cape and hat slowly floating down to the floor of the stage. The spectators gasped. Something under the hat wiggled. Slowly, it worked its way out under the brim, finally popping out from the side. A tiny Trixie-colored breezie stood and blinked in the sun, looking up at Twilight. It squeaked. Twilight laughed. "Okay, can you match that?" The breezie squeaked more, shaking a tiny hoof at Twilight. "Oh don't worry. I'll change you back." Twilight looked down at Trixie and raised an eyebrow. "As soon as you admit I am the most powerful unicorn in Ponyville." Trixie stood still for a moment, her mouth gaping. Her silence didn't last long. She exploded into a tirade of squeaks and shrieks. It was completely incomprehensible, but several mothers in the audience saw fit to cover their foals' ears nonetheless. Finally, the flood of babbling verbal abuse faded away. Twilight still stood above Trixie, waiting. Trixie looked down and away. She gave a tiny sigh. A few miniscule, barely perceptible squeaks followed. "There." Twilight smiled, more genuinely this time. "Isn't that better?" She fired up her horn again, returning Trixie to her former unicorn self. Trixie stood there on top of her hat and cloak, staring at Twilight intently and trembling... but she didn't dare to make a move. Eventually, without saying a word, she walked down from the stage, levitated her clothing after her, and disappeared into the back. > S01E07 Dragonshy > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Help. Help! Please? Help? There's— there's a horrible cloud of smoke. It's headed this way and—" Fluttershy shrieked as Rainbow Dash moved in beside her. Rainbow stopped her bouncing when she looked where Fluttershy was pointing. "There is a huge black cloud! Hold on, I'll get—" Rainbow turned to leave, but then froze, blinking. "...Twilight?" "Listen up! Smoke is spreading over all of Equestria." All the ponies around gasped at Twilight's pronouncement. "But don't worry, I've just received a letter from Princess Celestia informing me that it is not coming from a fire." Fluttershy sighed. "Oh thank goodness." "It's coming from a dragon." The crowd gasped again. Twilight smiled, doing her best to reassure them. "Don't worry, though. I'll take care of it. Just keep calm, everypony." With that, she vanished in a blink of violet light. She reappeared in front of the dragon's cave. "Okay, big boy." She walked inside. "Time for you to go." Inside the dragon slept peacefully, firmly ensconced on his mountain of gold. A tiny bit of strain actually entered Twilight's face as she prepared a massive teleport spell. A moment later, the dragon vanished in an enormous flash, safely sent off to the dragon wastelands where he belonged. "Phew, that was a big one." Twilight wiped a little sweat off her brow, then looked at the golden hoard. "Now... what to do with all this?" She smiled to herself. "It would be a shame to just leave it sitting around, and the library could use some extra funds for renovations." > S01E08 Look Before You Sleep > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rarity glanced to the side. "Did you hear that, Applejack? You certainly would not want to do anything that would ruin Twilight's very first slumber party, would you?" "Of course not." Applejack stared at her. "And you wouldn't either, I reckon." "So, do we have an agreement?" "You betcha!" The two of them sealed the deal with a hoof bump. They wouldn't let their squabbles get in the way of Twilight having a good time. And for the rest of the night, they made sure to get along perfectly, or at least act like it. By the end of the night, they didn't quite have to act, even. Twilight never noticed anything wrong with her slumber party. It was a smashing success. > S01E09 Bridle Gossip > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "I am sure there is an explanation for everything Zecora does. And if anypony here were actually brave enough to approach her, she would find out the truth." Twilight glanced out through the window again. "You know, I think it's time that happened." She focused her magic on the Zebra across the street, calling up a teleportation spell. With a flash, Zecora appeared in the center of the group. Her eyes opened wide. Everypony except Twilight screamed. Zecora screamed. Twilight patiently waited for the screaming to stop. Finally, it did stop. Pinkie kept going a few moments longer, but also stopped once Rainbow shoved a hoof in her mouth. Now in silence, the ponies and the zebra stared at each other. For a long, tense moment, nothing happened. "Do you ponies know where I could get some heart's desire?" Zecora asked, eventually. "My usual source for that flower was destroyed in a terrible fire." Silence reigned again as the ponies all glanced to each other. It was Fluttershy – of all ponies – who spoke up. "Um... well... I'm pretty sure the flower sisters would have it." She winced and hunkered down, but kept talking. "They have almost every kind of flower there." "Is it the shop across the street with flowers on the door? They do not seem to be open anymore." "They're probably just scared." Applejack backed up a little as she spoke. "Right." Twilight nodded. "Come on, we'll go there with Zecora and talk some sense into them." "Those ponies? They're the scardiest ponies around!" Rainbow dash flew up overhead. Twilight looked up at her out of the corner of her eye. "You were pretty scared a minute ago, too, but that was easy enough to overcome." "What?" Rainbow crossed her hooves in front of her chest as she hovered along. "I... I wasn't scared. I was, uh, just being protective of my friends!" "Right." Twilight smiled and shook her head. > S01E10 Swarm of the Century > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hey, look," Spike shouted, "Applejack's here!" Twilight gasped. "I got it! No pony can herd like Applejack." "Yeah! We can drive 'em back into the forest." Rainbow did a little loop in the air. Applejack shook her head. "I'll rastle 'em up, but I need everypony's help to do it. Twilight, you and Rarity wait over there. I'll herd the little critters straight at ya like a funnel. Rainbow Dash, you and Fluttershy stay on top of 'em, don't let 'em fly away." All five ponies jumped into action, rounding up all the parasprites into one giant ball. "Okay, is that all of 'em?" Applejack asked. "Nope! Hold on!" Spike came running out of Fluttershy's cottage, with one last parasprite clutched in his hand. He jumped up and shoved it into the ball with the rest of them. "Alright y'all, here goes nothin'." At Applejack's word, they began rolling it into the forest. A few tried to get loose, but were expertly herded back in. Finally, the huge wad of parasprites vanished into the Everfree Forest. "There, done." Rarity said, wiping her brow. "I do hope that all was worth it." Twilight started walking back into town. "That's just half of it. Now we need to clean up the damage they caused before the Princess arrives." On the way back, they met Pinkie Pie. "Okay, girls," she said, "I've got almost all the instruments we'll need to get rid of those parasprites." "Way ahead of ya." Applejack laughed. Rainbow landed next to her. "Yeah, we already herded 'em back into the Forest." Pinkie sank a little. "Oh." "But, there is one thing you could do," Twilight said, nudging her. "We've still got a royal party to prepare for." Pinkie reinflated instantly. "There's not a moment to lose!" Twilight laughed. "That's the spirit!" > S01E11 Winter Wrap Up > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Pinkie smiled as Twilight picked herself up out of the snow. "But did I make you feel better?" "Mm-hmm, yeah, I guess." "I think you'll be super awesome at something that keeps your hoofs on the ground." Pinkie stared of into the distance for a moment. "I know! They're always super-disorganized at town hall, and it usually makes spring late. I bet you could help with your ultra-amazing organizing skills!" Twilight blinked. "Oh my gosh! You're right! Thank you, Pinkie!" As Twilight ran off, Spike not far behind, Pinkie waved to her. "Anytime!" > S01E12 Call of the Cutie > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight took a step back. "Woah, what's been going on here?" "We've been making cupcakes, wanna try them?" Pinkie held up a tray of horribly burnt confections. "No thank you... not that they don't look, eh, delicious." Apple Bloom ran up in between the two of them. "Twilight, you have to help me!" It sounded like something serious. "What's the matter?" The little filly took a deep breath. "Tiara's cute-ceañera's today and everypony in my class will be there and they'll all have their cutie marks and I want to get my cutie mark but I'm no good at selling apples or hang-gliding or making cupcakes, but I wanna go to the party but how can I go to the party if I don't have my cutie mark, which Pinkie Pie says I can't just make appear, but I need it to appear, right now!" Twilight stared at her, blinking. "Uh... I don't follow. How can I help you?" "You can use your magic to make my cutie mark appear." "Oh, right. Of course." Twilight shook her head. "Why didn't I think of that?" She called up her magic. Only time could make a cutie mark appear, but time was as malleable as anything else to magic. With a few modifications, an aging spell would do the trick. "Okay... hold on..." A bright flash of light shot from Twilight's horn to Apple Bloom's flank. When it faded away, everypony could see the image of three apple flowers on the filly's flank. "Oh my gosh! Yes! You did it, Twilight!" Apple Bloom bounced around the room uncontrollably, contributing to the mess. Twilight grinned. "Of course... Now, how about you help Pinkie get this kitchen cleaned up a little before the party starts, okay?" Apple Bloom looked around at the mess... but in this mood, nothing could get her down. "Okay!" > S01E13 Fall Weather Friends > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow hovered up on her wings, pointing down to Applejack. "I challenge you to an Iron Pony Competition. A series of athletic contests to decide who's the best, once and for all." "You know what, Rainbow, you're on." Applejack spat on her hoof and held it out. "But no wings allowed. 'S gotta be fair, after all." Rainbow grinned. "Deal!" She bumped her hoof into Applejack's. * * * "And that ends our last event!" Spike hopped off of Twilight's back, still holding his twig microphone. "At eleven to nine, Applejack wins!" "Well, wallop my withers." Applejack elbowed Rainbow. "Looks like I'm the iron pony after all." Rainbow sulked, crossing her hooves in front of her chest. "Yeah, whatever. I'm still better at flying." "Heh, I guess I can give you that." Applejack shook her head. "That ain't my department at all." "So," Twilight said, walking up between them, "still friends?" "Of course!" the two competitors said at once, bumping their hooves together. > S01E14 Suited For Success > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "And Pinkie Pie, look! Pink! Your favorite! Aren't they all amazing?" Finally finishing her parade of outfits, Rarity turned to her friends. "Wow, Rarity, they're amazing!" Twilight ran up and gave her a hug. The other four weren't far behind. Fluttershy was the last to join in. "You really didn't have to, Rarity." "Oh, but I did!" She smiled, pulling all her friends in close. "I wouldn't have it any other way." > S01E15 Feeling Pinkie Keen > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight glanced back down at the advancing hydra. "Ugh, he'll be up here in no time! Quick, one at a time, cross!" Running up to the edge of the cliff, Spike stopped and hesitated. "Uh, do you know any spells for turning a hydra into a mouse?" "No." Twilight shot him a look. "How about a squirrel?" "N— Wait... I do!" Twilight stared the hydra down and grinned, firing up her horn. Everypony watched, mouths hanging open, as Twilight did her magic. A moment later, an irate, four-headed squirrel paused in its charge toward them. It looked down at itself – with three heads – while also staring at Twilight with widened eyes. "There." Twilight turned to her friends. "No problem." Pinkie gasped. "Oh my gosh! That was it!" "Huh?" Twilight turned to look at her. "That was what?" "That was the doozy! And what a doozy of a spell it was!" Pinkie hopped away, singing wordlessly to herself. Everyone else just stared at her, watching her go. > S01E16 Sonic Rainboom > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rainbow threw her hooves up. "Rare? The sonic rainboom is WAY more than rare!" "Rarity?" Rainbow looked up. Behind Fluttershy, Rarity hovered on shimmering butterfly wings. "Rarity! Are you... flying?" "I most certainly am! Aren't my wings smashing?" Rarity did a little spin in the air to show them off. "Twilight made them for me. I just adore them!" She paused. "Why so shocked? We couldn't leave our favorite flyer without a big cheering section!" "We?" A moment later, her other three friends popped up above the clouds, each one with a matching set of wings. Rainbow's mouth dropped open. "This is so cool! You guys made it!" "Sure did!" Pinkie fluttered up next to her. "Pretty cool, huh?" "I found a spell that makes temporary wings." Twilight touched down on the cloud, eying it a little dubiously at first, but quickly learning to trust it with her weight. "The spellbook said it would be really difficult, but it wasn't really a problem." "And we came to cheer you to victory!" Applejack landed on the cloud next to them all. "To be honest, I was starting to get just the teeniest, tiniest bit nervous. But I feel a LOT better now that you guys are here." Rainbow grinned. "I'm sure to win the competition now!" * * * Rainbow pushed herself harder and harder, speeding toward the second Rainboom of her life. All her friends were there, from Rarity to Fluttershy. She couldn't let them down! Finally, just as she passed through the stadium, the barrier broke. She did it! "Yes!" she shouted, even though it would be drowned out by the wind. The rainboom, combined with a perfect run in the beginning would have to be the winning routine! > S01E17 Stare Master > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fluttershy snuggled down into her couch, satisfied at having finally gotten the Crusaders quietly in bed. "Mmm, peace and quiet." She gasped "Too quiet!" She knew something had to be wrong; she rushed up to where they should have been sleeping. They weren't there. In a full panic now, Fluttershy rushed outside. "Girls? Girls?" She ducked into the chicken coop. "Elizabeak! She's missing!" She rushed outside. "Girls?" There was a bit of torn fabric on the fence. "Oh, no! They must have gone looking for my missing chicken! Which means... they must have gone into..." She gulped. "The Everfree Forest!" Fluttershy took a moment to prepare herself. She would have to go in there and find them, no matter what, no matter how scared she— "Oh, hi there, Fluttershy." Twilight came trotting out of the forest. "Looking for someone?" Behind her, three little fillies followed, heads held low. They didn't dare to look at Fluttershy. Twilight grinned. "I found these three out there chasing after a chicken. Good thing I found them, too. Did you know there's a cockatrice roaming around in there?" "A cockatrice?" Fluttershy trembled where she stood. "Don't worry." Twilight smiled. "I took care of it – teleported him into dragon territory. He shouldn't be bothering us anytime soon." "Phew." Fluttershy finally let herself relax. "Well, thank you Twilight! Now, I think I have some little fillies to talk to!" > S01E18 The Show Stoppers > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight smiled at the three little fillies. "Don't worry. You're going to be amazing. Remember, just stick to what you know best." She leaned down to Sweetie Belle. "I can't wait to hear you sing." She rolled her eyes. "Why does everyone think I'm gonna sing?" Scootaloo jumped in. "Actually, Twilight Sparkle, I'm the main singer tonight." Twilight stepped back. "Oh?" "And I'm the main dancer!" Apple Bloom attempted a karate chop. "Hi-ya!" Twilight took another step back. "Oh?" "And I'm in charge of..." "Costumes?" Twilight finished Sweetie Belle's thought. "And sets and props, how'd you know?" Twilight covered her face with a hoof. "Okay, that's enough. Sweetie Belle, your talent is singing; Scootaloo, your talent is doing stunts; Apple Bloom, your talent is fixing and beautifying things." She took a deep breath. "There. It's settled." The three fillies watched, dumbfounded, as Twilight left. Scootaloo sat back down in the box. "Oh." > S01E19 A Dog and Pony Show > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The diamond dog bore down on Rarity. "We hunt for gems. But you are a better hunter. So now we hunt... for you!" Rarity stared him down. "I think not." Without warning, her horn glowed, sending blasts of blue magic into all three dogs. The magic flung them back. They howled as they stood back up, and they bared their teeth. Rarity lit her horn again. She didn't need to use it. The three dogs scrambled away, yapping to each other as they went. "Ugh. Let's go, Spike." Rarity held her nose. "I can't stand the smell of burnt dog hair." > S01E20 Green Isn't Your Color > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Twilight waited as Fluttershy's tiny scream faded away. "Feel better?" "No." Her head hung low. "Can I tell you something?" "Of course." "You promise not to tell Rarity?" Twilight smiled. "I swear." "Pinkie Pie swear?" "Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my"– Twilight poked her own eye –"ow!" After a moment of silence, Fluttershy let it all out. "I don't like being a model. No, I hate being a model. All this attention is awful, just awful. And I'm only doing it because Rarity told me I must. I must! I must!" She sighed. "I must..." "Oh, really?" Twilight leaned in close. "Well... If you wanna know the truth, Rarity—" Pinkie's head popped out of the sponge bowl, shaking at Twilight menacingly. Fluttershy tilted her head to the side. "Oh, what were you about to say?" "Forever..." Pinkie growled as she sank back into the sponges. Twilight bit her lip. "Ah, I was just going to say, you should really tell Rarity about this. I'm absolutely sure she'll understand." Fluttershy looked down, then back up. "You promise?" "Cross my heart and hope to fly, stick a cupcake in my eye." Twilight went through the motions carefully this time. Fluttershy took a deep breath. "Well, okay. If you're that sure about it, I'll try." * * * The front door of the boutique rang. Rarity almost didn't even bother to answer it... until she heard Fluttershy's voice. "Rarity? Rarity, are you home?" She put on her best smile – which, honestly, wasn't very impressive at the moment. "Oh... Fluttershy! It's so... nice to see you." She hoped her friend hadn't seen her slight wince. "Oh Rarity. I can't hold it in anymore. I hate being a model!" Rarity took a step back. "You do?" "More than anything." "But..." Rarity shook her head. "But then why did you keep doing it?" Fluttershy let her head hang low. "I was afraid if I quit, you'd be mad at me for not wanting to... 'shine all over Equestria'." "Oh Fluttershy." Rarity jumped forward and hugged her friend. "Mad, good heavens! To be completely honest, I had been feeling rather... jealous of you. It even got to where I hoped you would fail. How could I have ever stooped to that?" Fluttershy returned the hug. "I understand completely. It's a good thing we can be honest with each other, or this could have really gotten out of hoof!" "It could have indeed!" Rarity giggled, finally releasing her hug. > S01E21 Over a Barrel > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Buffalo Chief stood at the top of the high bluff above town as the clock struck twelve. He sighed. Rainbow took a quick breath. "He's not gonna do it!" Applejack, though, had her eye on someone else. She swung her rope and let fly, catching Pinkie in mid-bounce. Pinkie squirmed as she was dragged back to the group. "Aw! But I need to sing my song!" "This is a delicate situation, Pinks. There ain't no call for singin'." Long minutes of tense silence followed, until eventually, the buffalo turned and left. Not long after, a plume of dust could be seen, circling around the orchard. The age-old stampeding trail had been altered. > S01E22 A Bird in the Hoof > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Ah, Philomena, my pet. You're awake. Do say hello to our gracious hosts." Fluttershy looked at the horrific shape Celestia's bird was in. "Oh... my." Celestia grinned. "She is quite the sight, isn't she?" "I... I... I've never seen anything like it." Fluttershy couldn't stop staring. As Celestia leaned away to whisper with one of her guards, Twilight took the opportunity to remedy the situation. "It's a phoenix, Fluttershy. It's supposed to look like that sometimes." "Oh." Fluttershy blinked. "Thank goodness." She stared off into space for a moment. "How did I not know that? I thought I knew about all kinds of creatures." > S01E23 The Cutie Mark Chronicles > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- An idea occurred to Apple Bloom as she rose up from the dusty road. "Hey sis! How'd you get your cutie mark?" Applejack shook her head. "Are y'all still on about that? Silly fillies. Twilight already told ya what your talents are, way back in the talent show." "Oh." Sweetie Belle climbed back into the wagon. "Right." "So if y'all want to work on gettin' those marks, why don't ya go practice those talents, huh?" Scootaloo nodded. "Sure! Let's go!" > S01E24 Owl's Well That Ends Well > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Spike held his hands out. "But my morning chores... " "It's okay. Owlowiscious did them for you." Twilight waved him off. "Who?" Twilight smiled. "He's our new junior assistant. He's gonna help out with your chores so you won't be so tired all the time." "Awesome!" Spike jumped up and down. "I could really use the help! Where is he?" > S01E25 Party of One > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Secrets and lies! It's all secrets and lies with those ponies!" Pinkie glanced back at her alligator. "They're up to something, Gummy! Something they don't want me to know about!" After thinking about it for a moment, she shrugged. "Aw, but they're my friends! Whatever they're up to, I bet it's something good!" Gummy attempted to eat Pinkie's bed. He didn't make much progress. > S01E26 The Best Night Ever > -------------------------------------------------------------------------- There they finally were, inside the great castle doors and at the Grand Galloping Gala. All her friends began to dash away, but Twilight remembered her promise to Spike. She stopped them all with a bit of magic. "Let's stay together girls. Being here with friends is what makes it fun." All of them paused for a moment, looking deep. One by one, though, they came around. "So, what should we do first?" Twilight glanced between them. All five took in a deep breath, ready to yell their own opinion. Twilight stopped them. "On second thought, how about we draw straws to see who goes first?" * * * "Ugh! This guy is such a jerk! Can we go now?" "Rainbow Dash! That is no way to talk to a—" Applejack held a hoof up against Rarity's mouth. "Honey, that colt is treating you like dirt, and I won't stand for it." Rarity sighed and shoved Applejack's hoof out of the way. "You're right." She shook her head. "So, who was next, Fluttershy, was it?" Blueblood just walked on, apparently oblivious to the fact that his mare was no longer following him around. * * * As all seven of them left the castle gardens, Twilight undid the invisibility and inaudability spell she had put on them all. "Thank you, Twilight." Fluttershy gave her a quick hug. "I would never have guessed the critters in the castle gardens would be so skittish... but it was wonderful to be able to watch them in their undisturbed environment." * * * Applejack shouldered yet another curious pony out of the way, preventing him from getting in between Rainbow and the Wonderbolt captain. "Is she about done hobnobbin' over there yet? I'm not sure how much longer I can keep 'em away." "Just a little while longer, dear, then it will be your turn." Rarity blocked another pony with the bulk of her own dress. "Have patience." * * * Raking another pile of bits into her suitcase, Applejack let her grin spread even wider. With all of her friends out there advertizing, and Rarity's advice about overpricing things, this was turning out to be the best business day in years. She'd be able to do all she wanted and more! * * * "Woo-hoo! Time to par-tay!" Pinkie bounced into the ballroom, more energetic than ever. Rarity halted her in her tracks with a levitation spell. "Hold it right there, Pinkie." "Huh?" Pinkie turned her head – all she could do – and stared at Rarity. "What's the matter?" "This is a formal party, Pinkie." Rarity let her friend free again, but stayed close to her side. "There is still a lot of fun to be had, but it is going to require a whole new set of mannerisms. Are you ready?" Pinkie stared at her and blinked a couple times. "I... guess so." "Good." Rarity smiled. "Now, follow my lead." * * * Twilight sighed. "With this many ponies waiting to be seen," she whispered to her friends, "I'll never get a chance to talk to the Princess!" "Twilight's right," Applejack whispered back. "We've got to do somethin'." Fluttershy stroked her chin. "Hm... we probably need a distraction. A big one." "Say no more!" Rainbow Dash strutted out with a huge grin on her face. "Time for me to put on the moves!" Without waiting for any response, she jumped and flew up into the high-ceilinged entry hall. As her stunt routine grew more and more daring, ponies in line to greet Celestia began to stop and stare. Before long, all of them had stopped to watch, leaving Celestia unoccupied for a few precious moments. "So nice to finally get a chance to talk to you, Twilight." The Princess gave a much more genuine smile than she'd been giving everypony else. Twilight smiled back. "I can't wait to get caught up!" Celestia glanced at her friends. "It doesn't seem like everypony is here, though. Where are Rarity and Spike?" "Well..." Twilight blushed slightly. "Rarity was disappointed that her date was a disaster, so Spike invited her to go see the golden apple tree." "As in a..." Celestia's eyebrow rose slightly. "Yep, Rarity has a new date." Twilight giggled. "I'm sure nothing will come of it, though. It's just a childhood crush... right?" "Only time will tell." Celestia gave one of her characteristic enigmatic smiles.
